Streamline Your ESL Lesson Planning with Data and Digital Tools
In the modern classroom, teachers face the constant challenge of balancing effective lesson planning with the increasing demands on their time. For Australian educators, particularly those involved in ESL (English as a Second Language) instruction, the task can be even more daunting. However, by leveraging data and digital tools, you can not only streamline your lesson planning process but also deliver better outcomes for your students.
The Power of Data in Lesson Planning
Data-driven teaching is no longer just a buzzword—it’s a transformative approach that allows teachers to make informed decisions about their lesson plans. By analysing student performance data, you can identify learning gaps, understand student needs, and tailor your ESL lesson planning accordingly. This personalised approach ensures that each student receives the attention they need to succeed, whether they are struggling with basic grammar or are ready to tackle more advanced language skills.
Utilising data also helps with tracking student progress over time. This can be particularly useful in ESL classrooms, where students often come from diverse linguistic backgrounds. By regularly assessing data, you can adjust your teaching strategies to ensure that every student is on the right path.
Digital Tools: A Teacher’s Best Friend
Digital tools have revolutionised the way teachers approach lesson planning. Gone are the days of manually creating lesson plans from scratch. With the right tools, you can access a wide range of teacher lesson plan templates that can be customised to fit your specific needs. These templates save you valuable time and provide a structured framework that ensures your lessons are well-organised and aligned with curriculum standards.
For ESL teachers, digital tools offer additional benefits. Interactive platforms allow for the integration of multimedia resources, such as videos, audio clips, and interactive quizzes, which can make lessons more engaging for students. These tools also facilitate collaborative learning, enabling students to work together on language exercises, thereby enhancing their communication skills. Digital tools are a great addition to the ESL classroom and an effective lesson plan for teachers.

crazy that in less than 20 days I’m going to be partially responsible for approx. 15-20 five year olds
#( tell me to stop posting ; ooc. )#I’m excited to meet the students and develop a lil friendship#it’s just the actual lesson planning that’s going to be the bane of my fucking existence#like our professors have told us (for 3 years) the lesson plan template they make us use#is nothing like the ones they use in actual schools (it’s basically pointless) but that’s the one we have to use#my lead teacher used to be a professor of mine too & she says she doesn’t even write lesson plans unless the principal asks for one ??

Lesson Planning for Different Types of Learners: A Comprehensive Guide
Introduction
Lesson planning is the heart of effective teaching. It sets the course for what students learn and how they will accomplish it. However, one of the most significant challenges teachers face is accommodating different types of learners in one classroom.
Understanding Different Types of Learners
Every student is unique. They have their preferred methods of learning - some are visual learners, others auditory, and some are kinesthetic. Understanding these different learning styles is crucial for creating an inclusive learning environment.
Tips for Lesson Planning for Different Types of Learners
Structuring a lesson plan that caters to all types of learners may sound daunting, but it's achievable. For visual learners, include graphical presentations or videos in your lessons. For auditory learners, incorporate discussions and readings. Kinesthetic learners, on the other hand, will benefit from hands-on activities and real-world examples.

Mia's Relationships in TWST—Part 2/2
Like with the first part, I took this as a general progression of thoughts and opinions amongst everyone and went from there. Everyone's thoughts and opinions are pretty straightforward, more or less, but I'd still like to get into a little more detail on those below the cut. So off we go! (Original chart/template is from here, and the Picrew I used to make Mia's little sprite is here. Her armband is something I put together myself.)
• Crowley: At first, Mia didn't really have much of an opinion on him other than the fact that she thinks he's a little scatterbrained. Of course, the longer she stayed at NRC, the more she came to dislike him. He dances around things too much and dumps a lot of problems onto her that she's pretty sure he could handle himself. There are some things she doesn't mind dealing with, but usually she's pretty annoyed with him and avoids depending on him whenever she can. Meanwhile, he thinks she's pretty great. She's diligent, resourceful, and very independent. Although, he does think her currently well-known attitude needs some work.
• Crewel: They actually came to like each other fairly easily. She's really good at alchemy and she enjoys it very much. It's even her best subject. (Grim is so lucky.) Crewel likes the questions she asks during class and appreciates her efforts as well as having the patience to deal with Grim when it comes to schoolwork.
• Sam: Him and Mia didn't really have much of a problem coming to like each other. She thinks he's pretty cool and he likes how laidback yet spirited she can be. Since Mia does take up a part-time job at his shop, her time there ends up making them pretty casual friends. He even trusts her with the shop sometimes.
• Vargas: Hands down, Vargas is one of the few people she's completely indifferent towards. There's not much to say about a musclehead like him, in her book. As for Vargas, he came to like her pretty easily. And he's a little impressed that someone as lean as her can handle his lessons.
• Trein: Despite Mia wondering how exactly one teacher could make a class so monotonous, she's pretty cool with Trein. As for him, he pretty much came to like her fairly easily. Like with her other classes, she's diligent and makes an effort to pay attention despite falling asleep in his class at least a few times (which was before she managed to find a coffee machine).
• Rollo: Oh boy. Both of them were pretty indifferent towards each other at first. To Mia, he was just a really reserved and polite guy, even if he did keep giving everyone judging side eyes, so she didn't pay him any mind. Rollo, meanwhile, despite being in disbelief with how nonchalantly she was handling being surrounded by magic users, didn't pay her much mind. And although he was a tad curious why she was even attending NRC in the first place, he chose not to dwell on it. He did have his grand plan to worry about, after all.
Once the whole ordeal with Rollo and the crimson flowers had occurred, Mia was quick to dislike him. And when she had the chance, she didn't waste any time giving him a piece of her mind. Rollo still remained indifferent towards her, however, but he does think she's a bit too modest with trusting her classmates so generally.
• Fellow: I haven't seen the translations for Stage in Playful Land in their entirety, so I'm just going off of what I've seen so far for both him and Gidel (hence the question marks and white arrows since I wanted to at least put something there). So far, Mia doesn't like him. He's too suspicious and way sleazier than Azul, and she absolutely does not buy his "friendly guy" act. She might have her guard up for a pretty long time, even though probably half of the group keeps trying to convince her that he's totally fine. Ace most definitely will be one of the first ones to tell her to loosen up if Grim doesn't beat him to it. The closest she'll probably get to lowering her guard a smidge is admitting that everyone's outfits aren't too bad, including her own. But she's definitely not a fan of the long ribbons, so she's tying hers up for more mobility.
Fellow, meanwhile, probably might like her, but he does see her as a very tough nut to crack. Maybe he'll pull out all the stops to get her to have some more fun, maybe he'll get her to at least trust Gidel. Who knows? (The chances of him getting Mia's rough side are low, but never zero.)
• Gidel: Currently, Mia's pretty indifferent towards Gidel since he seems harmless enough. But he is in league with Fellow, so that's probably a red flag for her. Gidel might be cool with her, but I have no idea.
[I might update Fellow and Gidel's sections whenever I get around to either watching the event translations or seeing it officially in English, but we'll see.]

Teaching Resources I Use as a Sub
I think substitute teaching is a good way to make extra money even if you don't plan on becoming a teacher, so I wanted to share some things that help me :)
Classroom Screen - I use this every time I sub (unless a smartboard isn't available for whatever reason), it has lots of little widgets for classroom management and communication
Teachers Pay Teachers - pre-made activities for students to do in case you need something extra, free and paid options
Stedi Bonus Activities - more activities, these are all free and geared toward substitutes (the main site offers paid training courses, I don't recommend them as someone who was able to do a course for free, they were very basic and not all the advice was good)
cK-12: free grade school level textbooks, useful for short, additional readings (I wouldn't trust the AI tutor thing)
Read Think Write Interactives - these are a bunch of charts that students can fill out on their computers, or you could fill one out together on a smart board based on what was learned in class
Boom Learning - more interactives, these are more focused activities rather than templates
CNN10 - daily 10 minute news clips, can be used to fill time
Class Dojo - classroom management system that uses points that can be earned or lost, this is difficult to implement from the perspective of a sub since you can't import class lists, but it may be useful to use numbers and reset points at the end of the day
most of these are unnecessary unless you're working with a very bare bones lesson plan or are subbing long term, but I can't recommend classroom screen enough
next are some useful youtube video genres worth keeping in mind (always remember to vet anything you want to show ahead of time)
multi-hour long relaxing music - good for background noise during quiet work, I don't recommend music with lyrics or recognizable instrumentals such as movie soundtracks and video game music because they may end up amping up students instead
mario run - these are like fun guided exercise videos, short ones are good for brain breaks and longer ones are good for when you have to have recess inside (some classes may not be able to handle the excitement, make volume expectations clear before starting)
animals in action - I've used like snake and spider videos as rewards for good behavior, kids love it
and lastly, some things I keep in my bag
clipboard with compartment - I keep school maps, extra paper, mental health crisis numbers, and even my resume inside and I'll clip attendance sheets and lesson plans on top of it
fidgets for students to borrow
prizes - mini erasers and stickers are popular and relatively cheap
dice, playing cards, flashcards - extra, tangible activities (the dice and playing cards are for randomly picking numbers to add subtract multiply etc.)
ok that's all bye

You Don’t Stop!
Gotta keep moving …DON’T do the rocker!
As I approach my up coming birthday, there is a feeling of desperation to get this right
I’m not a big zombie flick fan …I never watched The Walking Dead, or watched any of George Romero’s The Night of The Living Dead … they gross me out. I confess I did watch Marc Forster’s World War Z, starring Brad Pitt; the zombies seemed less gooey, so I could handle it better. Just ask any of my students: “Mr. Rich doesn’t do scary!” I distinctly remember a line early in the film, where Brad Pitt’s character is trying to get a family to leave with them to avoid the zombies and save their lives. He tells the family, they have to keep moving …that “movement is life.” Whoa, I instantly gathered a multitude of meaning on that three word line in the script. Yeah, moving will keep you safe from mindless killers that want your brain; but it’s a template for anytime in one’s life …zombies or no.
My thinking is always out from left and the imagination that accompanies it can sometimes create counter productive scenarios. Case in point, I’ve had an infuriating, miserable cold this week; and I’ve chosen to rest to accelerate my recovery. Good idea! My workout regimen has been to ride my bike five miles every other day and to ride a stationary bike for twelve minutes and do weight workouts on alternate days. May I introduce over active imagination and his sidekick unconventional over thinker. Observe how these two take the line, “movement is life,” and turn it into an existential crisis for the teacher in transition; all the while the teacher’s birthday quickly approaches …and, ACTION! Not working out, taking naps instead of writing and illustrating, staying put at the house leading yon transition guy into a mindset that stuff is falling apart. Nothing is getting accomplished, chaos, time slipping away, cats and dogs raining from the sky. Oh it’s a scene man.
I confess that I struggle with this more often than I let on in my little essays of wisdom that I put out weekly. Last week’s article played on the realization that we of the middle age understand; time is running out, which flies in the face of a lot of my earned wisdom that this retirement thing is supposed to be about; slowing down and easing life’s pace. It is, I know it is and I know that I’ve struggled with anxiety all throughout my life. The solid truths that hold me up: I do have much less anxiety; I am feeling accomplished; I do have a healthy activity level. If I can continue to reign in my overactive mind, I’ll get this retirement, change of life thing feeling chill. Over the last two plus years of this column, I’ve focused on the wisdom I’m learning, but haven’t communicated much of the struggle. Yes, yes, yes, I know that we must learn to grasp the power of the immediate moment as that is all that can truly be lived. The last article focused on how our past sets up the now …the moment; establishing a balance between the two. It appears this week, I’m dealing with how the immediate can affect how the time we have turns out. It’s ok if we do nothing for whatever reason. Doing nothing isn’t necessarily a waste of time if you enjoy it, and taking a day here and there doesn’t mean you’ve abandoned the program. Just keep your mind and motion moving, and a meaningful, self satisfying path won’t run out of road.
My biggest lesson that I can’t let my self forget …we only have one day to live; whether we are fifteen, fifty of eighty. I know who I am (I’m working on it anyway) and I know what I want. If I can achieve confidence in these things, an occasional plan change isn’t going to derail that. I’m gonna get better now …I’ll achieve super stuff tomorrow. It’s ok.

Java for Kids
Coding is a crucial talent that is progressively becoming ubiquitous and vital in our lives as the world becomes more dependent on technology. Today, knowing how to code is a highly sought-after ability that businesses are looking for. Coding is the process of laying out a set of instructions for a computer to follow in order to teach it to perform a specific activity. Almost all of our technology uses coding, which can be done in a variety of languages like Scratch for basic coding, C++ for building and creating entertainment applications, Java, JavaScript, and Python for intermediate and advanced coding.
What is Java?
Java is a programming language that is extremely popular in the coding world. Out of 700 languages,Java is frequently ranked among the top ten most used languages. But why is Java so very popular? And why is it a suitable coding language for kids to learn? Well, continue reading to find out more.
A popular object-oriented programming language since the early 1990s is Java. Created by James Gosling, Java is now used by many big companies such as Netflix, Meta, Airbnb, Microsoft, Spotify and Amazon. Java is also used in many industries such as cybersecurity, video games, cloud computing and e-commerce. Thus, learning how to code in Java is an important skill and is valuable for numerous professions.
But why is Java so popular? Well, unlike other coding languages such as C++, which uses structured programming, which involves repeatedly using chunks of similar code over and over again, Java is an object oriented programming language, which involves basic instruction-containing classes and objects and a class is a type of template. An object can be easily inserted into the code by a programmer. There is no need to create code to make the object function because it inherits its behaviour from the class it belongs to (its template) and it is immediately usable.
Advantages of Java
Because it is durable, Java is a wonderful language for kids to learn. It has existed since the beginning of the 1990s. In the realm of computers, that's a long period of time. Additionally, Java has a sizable development community of roughly 9 million people and a significant online presence. Numerous sophisticated apps are powered by Java, and the language is here to stay.
Learning Java improves children's soft skills and increases perseverance. Java programming fosters both strong abstract reasoning abilities and inventiveness. A problem can frequently be approached and solved in a number of different ways. Finally, cooperation skills are developed by aspiring programmers through group classes and projects. Professional software engineers frequently collaborate in teams to plan projects, produce code, review work, and resolve issues. Hence, Java is an ideal coding language for kids to learn. The best candidates for learning Java, an intermediate language, are those who want to design and build their own apps. Java is famous for its adaptability and ability to generate a wide range of applications, which broadens students' coding options.
How to learn Java
There are many ways to learn Java, some of which are listed down below.
Through Minecraft
This may be a surprising option, but Minecraft is a good resource to learn more about Java and how it works. Some Minecraft players do what is known as "modding." That's a phrase used to describe modifying a game's programming. Java can be used for Minecraft modding by players. Anyone interested in learning Java modding for Minecraft should definitely check out YouTube.
Via online classes
Online coding classes are another method to introduce your kid to Java as expert teachers who are experienced in teaching Java can guide your kid and give a lesson plan best suited for them. These classes are fun and informative while also maintaining a structured approach to the lessons. Code Karo Yaaro is an online coding school for children organised by the Suvidha Foundation is the first online coding school in India and is a good platform to learn coding for kids. Code Karo Yaaro's teachers provide the best support to kids and parents alike. Code Karo Yaaro's classes can be joined by using a mobile phone or computer and has a doubt clearing initiative focused on speedy solving of problems round the clock. Code Karo Yaaro has brainstorming classes to encourage students to visualise the ideas and emphasises the entrepreneurial mindset from a young age.
Fees for the classes are from INR 3,299/- to INR 31,699/- . However, free sessions to experience the classes are available. So Code Karo Yaaro's classes are a good way to teach Java to kids.
Using books
Books are also a good means to learn more about Java. Java Programming For Kids aged 12-18 provides a clear, short introduction of basic Java concepts. It makes learning engaging, instructive, and entertaining by using extensive examples. In Easy Steps explains the foundations of Java in a concise way. A Beginniners Guide To Java Programming Language For Kids aged 12-18 is a good way for children to begin learning Java that uses thorough examples and code.
Podcasts
You might not believe that listening to a podcast can teach you how to cod in Java. But there are many podcasts that explain how to use Java step-by-step, inform Java enthusiasts of the most recent Java-related news, and cover the steps involved in becoming a proficient Java coder. How To Program With Java is perfect for those kids who are just embarking on their Java journey as it provides a detailed guide to the basics. The Java Easily Podcast is also a good choice, although it is geared more towards intermediate learners. However, those podcasts are more suitable for teenagers.
By using games
There are many Java based games which kids can okay to hone their Java skills. Some of these include Robocode, CodeGym, CodeMonkey and CodeWars. Robocode is a famous game in which kids can create a battle tank. CodeGym is a free repository of tools to create your own games. CodeMonkey is a fun, simple game that anyone can play. CodeMonkey is created to suit those gamers with no coding knowledge whatsoever, and and it teaches one simple concepts and principles of programming and Java.
Thus, nowadays even kids can learn programming languages such as Java. By using these methods, we hope your child becomes proficient in Java.

How Do You Choose the Right Music Teaching Supplies?
When choosing music teaching materials, there are a number of significant factors to take into account. Make sure the resources are relevant and interesting for your pupils by first evaluating their age group and skill level. Think about the range of tools and materials required to accommodate various learning preferences, including technology, hands-on instruments, and visual aids. Invest in high-quality materials that will endure frequent use since quality is important. Furthermore, you should balance quality and cost in your decision-making process by considering your budget. Finally, to find useful resources that improve student learning and encourage a love of music, ask colleagues and students for their opinions.
Teachers' Essential Music Resources Developing a love of music in young students requires the inclusion of effective elementary music lesson plans. Teachers are guided through the fundamentals of music instruction by a well-structured lesson plan, which acts as a roadmap. Objectives, exercises, and evaluation techniques catered to each student's particular needs are frequently included in these plans. It's equally critical for teachers to have dependable music classroom resources. Teachers may develop dynamic and captivating classes with the help of these tools, which can include instructional videos and lesson templates.
Creating a Whole K–8 Music Curriculum Many musical ideas and abilities should be covered in a comprehensive k-8 music curriculum. From performance and composition to music theory and history, this curriculum can cover it all. Teachers may give students a well-rounded education that honors and promotes cultural diversity by incorporating a variety of musical traditions and genres. These ideas can be arranged into digestible pieces with the use of general music unit plans. These units guarantee that students stay interested throughout the learning process while allowing educators to concentrate on particular subjects, such as rhythm, melody, or instrumentation.
Successful Music Teacher Lesson Plans Teachers of music should have flexible, inclusive lesson plans for music teachers that accommodate different learning styles. Enhancing the educational experience is the incorporation of many instructional approaches, including individual practice, group activities, and multimedia tools. Lesson plans for elementary school music should emphasize active learning and hands-on experience, letting kids express their creativity. Including games including movement and rhythm in instruction can greatly increase student retention and engagement.
Making Use of Resources and Tools for Music Education Teachers should spend money on high-quality instruments and teaching materials for music in order to improve the learning environment. Online resources, notation software, and instruments can improve learning in the classroom. Providing students with a variety of instruments to choose from promotes experimentation and a deeper comprehension of music. Furthermore, keeping a music lesson plans for elementary students to reflect on their learning and keep track of their advancement, giving them a sense of control over their education.
Materials for Elementary Instructors In terms of music teacher resources, sharing and teamwork are essential. Making useful connections with other educators can yield resources and insights that can be used in the classroom. Attending workshops and seminars as part of your professional development can provide you new insights and methods for improving music education. Furthermore, looking through music resources for primary teachers can reveal cutting-edge resources that motivate both educators and pupils.
In conclusion, good lesson planning, a variety of music teaching tools, and interesting teaching materials are all components of a well-rounded approach to music education. Teachers may provide their pupils with a dynamic and powerful music-learning environment by concentrating on five key elements.

Mastering Lesson Planning: A Simple Guide for Energizing Student Engagement
Why Lesson Planning Matters
Good lesson planning isn’t just about saying what will be taught. It’s also about getting what the students need and finding ways to motivate them. A solid lesson plan is like a map for teachers. It helps manage different topics smoothly while fitting various learners' styles.
How to Create a Lesson Plan?
Set Clear Goals for Learning
The first step in planning is figuring out clear, reachable and learning goals. These goals help guide teaching and show students what they should strive for by the lesson’s end. Well structured goals not only help students stay focused but also give them a sense of direction and purpose in their learning journey.
Example of Smart Objectives
SMART Goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound.
Specific Goal: "Students will analyze a poem."
Measurable Goal: "Students will write a one-page analysis."
Achievable Goal: "With a template, students will finish this during class."
Relevant Goal: "This skill helps with the final project."
Time-bound Goal: "Complete by the end of the week."
Add Interactive Activities
Filling lessons with interactive learning activities keeps students on their toes! By including interactive aspects, passive learning becomes an immersive experience that lets students apply their knowledge in a pleasant, cooperative setting. The following techniques can help you include more interaction in your lesson plans:
Group Work: Get students working together on projects; it lets them share ideas and team up.
Gamification: Through the use of games and quizzes that are connected to the lesson content, educators can foster a pleasant, competitive environment that encourages students to participate more fully. Games can be used to teach new ideas, review old ones, or hone existing ones.
Hands-On Activities: Bring real experiences into lessons whenever you can—like science projects or art!
Use Technology
Bringing tech into your lessons can spark interest and offer new learning ways. In addition to appealing to pupils who are tech-savvy, digital tools give teachers access to a wealth of information that can enhance their lesson preparations.
Helpful Tools
Interactive Whiteboards: These enable educators to create more visually interesting and captivating presentations. By resolving issues or participating in board debates, students can participate.
Learning Management Systems (LMS): Instantaneous feedback, resource organization, and assignment streamlining are all made possible by platforms such as Google Classroom, Moodle, and Canvas. These platforms serve as a focal point for class discussions and enable remote learning as well.
Educational Apps: Share apps that give practice outside the classroom!
Assessment’s Role in Engagement
Types of Assessments
Frequent evaluations are essential for gauging students' comprehension and involvement. Teachers can get important insights into how well their students are understanding the topic and modify their teaching strategies by implementing regular assessments of student progress. But evaluations shouldn't only be used to determine grades; they are an integral component of the educational process and, when handled carefully, can raise student interest.
Quick Quizzes or Exit Tickets: They give quick feedback on understanding.
Peer Review: Let students give feedback to each other; it builds community!
Self-Reflection: Students think about their learning; it helps them own their path.
"Assessments are tools for growth—not just grades!"
Building Connections with Students
Lastly, developing deep relationships with your students is one of the most effective strategies to increase their involvement. Students are more inclined to interact with the topic and take part fully in class discussions when they feel heard, visible, and valued. A pleasant learning atmosphere where students feel comfortable exploring new ideas and taking risks in their education is fostered by a strong teacher-student connection.
Ways to Connect
Learn Names: Knowing names makes students feel included.
Open Communication: Make it easy for students to share thoughts & worries.
Be Approachable: Take a sincere interest in the personal and intellectual lives of your students. Students are more likely to remain motivated and engaged in class when they feel that their teacher is concerned about their welfare.
