i could talk about these for HOURS, they're all my effects pedals!! i haven't fully tapped into all of them but i've been doing a lot of recording lately so i'll probably make some pretty noises with all of them some day in the near future :>
the first picture's order is all wonky because that's the order i have the pedals in the chain
1. EHX' Mel-9 (Mellotron emulator)
2. Alexander Pedals' Defender (OD/DST/FZ)
3. TC Electronic's Grand Magus (RAT similar)
4. Behringer's Noise Reducer (i use mostly as a mute when tuning)
5. TC Electronic's Afterglow (chorus)
6. Donner's Mod Square II (16 modulation in a mini casing)
7. TC Electronic's Hall of Fame 2 (digital reverb)
8. EHX' Oceans 12 (dual digital reverb/delay)
9. homemade JHS Little Black Box copy (1 setting buffer)
---not on the board---
10. TC Electronic's Sub'n'Up (octave)
11. Proco's RAT (distortion/fuzzish?) this one gets put back on the board every now and the
12. Dunlop's Crybaby (wah-wah)
13. Danelectro's Dan-Echo (echo/delay)
14. Joyo's Wow-Wah (auto-wah)
15. Donner's Echo Square
16. BOSS' ODB-3 (bass overdrive) i use this a lot when i play bass :)
17. BOSS' LMB-3 (bass limiter/enhancer)
18. BOSS' RBF-10 (rack mount flanger)
19. Danelectro's EStudio Honeytone E-15 (my dad's headphone amp from the mid-late '90s, not really a pedal but it can sorta be)
secret 20. 1-Spot Pro (power supply under the board, also not really a pedal but it's essential for the rig)

A short story of my pedalboard)) I’ve bought this Furman spb-8 some where in the middle of 2000’s. I’ve had there only my Boss GT-8 and Tubeman, but when I bought Marshall JVM 210 I understood that I need something for pedals that I started buying more and more)) Then it has been changed as we see on these photos. Finally I turned to the start point. Now I’m waiting for my Quad Cortex processor and all these pedals will be moved to a studio rack

Hall of fame 2 / tc electronic
PreDelay
Decay
Diffuse

The Glue
I’ve released a lo-fi psy EP, Rat Cellar Tape and showing you the equipment used to make it through this series of posts. You can stream it for free on BandCamp!
Electro Harmonix Platform
The compressor/distortion for the DrumBrute’s kick and snare. It’s not a clean compressor to my ears, which is why it was perfect for spicing things up. It can be a bit tricky to set up if you’ve never played with a compressor before, so take your time learning it. Also, the distortion doesn’t get really gnarly, but it’s good for pushing things over the top when needed.
TC Electronic Hall of Fame MKI
The only stereo reverb I have. I used the “LoFi” setting (natch). You can do some really cool stuff with it, like load extra reverb settings through your phone. The MKII version adds a “mash” button for creating swells, but I never felt the need to upgrade.
Voodoo Labs Pedal Power ISO-5
All of the pedals, except the Line6 are powered with this. The Line6 requires more current than this can put out. It does have an 18 volt output, needed by the MXR flanger.
I’ve used those OneSpot adapters before. They’re great! But I do get ground hum sometimes with them and this keeps everything sounding clean.

Bass Pedalboard 2023
My bass pedalboard used to be pretty complex:
Electro-Harmonix Neo Clone chorus pedal
MXR reissue M117 Flanger
MXR M87 Bass Compressor
Boss OC-3 Octave
TurboTuner Mini strobe tuner
Empress ParaEQ
TC Electronic Mimiq doubler pedal
I’ve sold all of them and simplified it down to this:
Aguilar TLC Compressor ➔ DSM Humboldt Simplifier Bass Station (all-analog preamp/EQ/amp sim/DI) ➔ Aguilar Octamizer octave pedal ➔ TC Electronic Plethora X5 multieffects unit for chorus, flanger, doubler, and noise gate as needed
I will experiment with the routing, to loop the Plethora in via the Bass Station’s effects loop (or vice versa).
In theory the Plethora could also do the compression and octave functions, but I wasn’t quite sold on TC’s Sub’n’Up octaver sound, and I’d need to work on a TonePrint patch for the Hypergravity compressor.
To me, part of the job of a compressor is to tame peaks before they hit the A/D converters, more as a limiter, to avoid nasty digital clipping. The other job is to even out volume levels - squashing dynamic range, but providing more sustain and making sure all notes are heard.
Some artists use multiple compressors in their signal chain, some before the preamp, others after, but in this case, if I put the Plethora’s digital compressor first before sending the signal to the Bass Station, then take the return and go through the rest of the Plethora effects, I’m a little wary of going through multiple analog-digital-analog conversions.
More to come…

Tumblr media
