The worst Dark Shadows role playing game I was ever a part of

The year was 2011 or early 2012 and Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows had just been announced, stirring old loves and fandoms in regard to Dark Shadows.

One night I was delighted to discover someone named Nicole had a Dark Shadows themed role playing game on IMVU.   When I entered the setting though it was really weird.   The person’s best friend (who was not a real Dark Shadows fan) had a character who created an Ancient Egyptian themed cult so for some reason there were these small Pyramids (about the size of suburban houses) scattered around Collinsport.

And let me just say this friend was the worst role player I ever encountered.   When first meeting her she insisted that I, the player, not see or hear any game activity that my character was not directly present for.  She had never heard of “Keep secrets from the character, not the player.” And was convinced that if I knew this or that, I’d feed the information to my character.  As I kind of love to play characters that take a long time to figure out what’s going on, that never happens.   Then when the friend did interact with me she played this knock-off Renfield character.  She even quoted the line “On the contrary, they’re actually perfectly nutritious” from the Bram Stoker’s Dracula movie.  She didn’t like it when my character didn’t react the way she wanted and instead contradicted the statement by pointing out that modern roaches and even mosquitos carry various diseases and contaminants unless raised in captivity on insect farms (which are an actual thing). The friend even tried to allow another person to heal my character of scarring against my will.  The character I was playing had a badly scarred hand and her friend tried to auto-hit / heal the scarring (which was a scar from a magical fire, by the way).  And when I OOCly told the other player to please not do that she said “Too late, I’m a level eleven Flesh mage in VtM!”  But this wasn’t VtM.  It was TBL chat room based Dark Shadows RP.

The friend (again, accountable for the random pyramids) didn't want me to play an occultist or alchemist unless I proved I knew about alchemy and occultism (And she was insisting Hermetic (or Kemetic as she called it with her Egyptian obsession as she believed all things arcane started in Egypt) occultism was the only real occultism. I had graduated from Stratford with a diploma in Parapsychology / Astrology. Anyway, this person essentially demanded I write an essay revealing what I know about alchemy and the occult and I had to name five real occultists and alchemists. I humored them and wrote the list and included rock star David Bowie for his dabbling in occultism. She publicly told the GM that I had copied and pasted everything from Wikipedia. I was furious and pointed out that there's no Wikipedia page listing David Bowie as an occultist. So apparently that was the "only part" I didn't copy and paste. Yeah, okay, with a diploma in parapsychology / astrology you really think I'd copy and paste any occult knowledge from Wikipedia? I love babbling about that sort of thing. But this was Nicole’s "Best friend" and I came to realize I couldn't stand the condescending and pretentious person who assumed she was the only one who ever studied the occult.

She even tried to change Nicole’s rules so that no mortal could ever win against a vampire even if the mortal knew all the vampire’s weaknesses.  Thankfully when I pointed that one out Nicole deleted the “rule” that her friend had added, with the feeble excuse that her friend wasn’t familiar with Dark Shadows and didn’t realize Barnabas had repeatedly been captured by or harmed by mortals.  But even without having watched Dark Shadows, I don’t know of any vampire themed role playing game where someone makes it a rule that mortals can never win.  It was sadly the only Dark Shadows RP on IMVU and to this date, probably the most obnoxious one in existence... at least I hope there’s none worse.

As far as I know they may still be on IMVU with their Dark Shadows RP that somehow is mostly about an Egyptian cult in Collinsport by someone ironically unaware of the Leviathan storyline from the TV show matching up to what she was doing with her Egyptian cult.

Kini Polisi lanjutkan Kasus Dugaan pemerkosaan oleh Bupati Maluku Tenggara, LPSK Siagakan Perlindungan darurat

Laporan itu ditarik kembali, menurut pengacara korban, “hanya untuk mempertahankan nama baik,” dan juga dilarang bagi korban dan tersangka pelaku untuk menikah dengan mahar Rp 1 miliar. Namun, seorang aktivis perempuan yang berbasis di Malukuus mempertanyakan permintaan agar laporan tersebut ditarik kembali tanpa paksaan atau tekanan. Namun, LPSK menyiapkan “perlindungan darurat” sehingga korban dapat dievakuasi berdasarkan permintaan.

Komnas Perempuan menyebut impunitas rentan terhadap pelaku dan mencatat peningkatan kasus kekerasan berbasis gender, salah satunya melibatkan pejabat negara pada tahun sebelumnya.

M. Thaher Hanubun dilaporkan oleh kepolisian daerah Maluku, yang mengklaim mereka tidak menghentikan dugaan kasus kekerasan seksual yang melibatkan seorang wanita berusia 21 tahun. “Kasus ini belum dihentikan. Combes M Roem Ohoirat, kepala humas Polri Maluku, menyatakan pada Rabu, 19 September, bahwa penyelidikan masih berlangsung. Roem Ohoirat mengakui bahwa pelapor telah meminta agar laporan itu ditarik kembali di depan jurnalis Khairyiah Fitri, yang meliputinya untuk BBC News Indonesia. Roem melanjutkan, “Tapi kami masih menyelidiki kasus ini lebih lanjut dengan harapan bahwa pelapor atau penyidik akan bertemu dengan mereka di sana untuk informasi lebih lanjut.”

Bagaimana Kronologinya?

Insiden ini dimulai pada bulan April, menurut informasi pendamping. Bupati Maluku Tenggara, M Thaher Hanubun, meminta pijat kamar dari wartawan atau korban yang sedang bekerja di kafe di Kota Ambon. Ada pelecehan pada saat itu. Pada bulan Agustus, tersangka pelaku berusaha untuk melakukan kembali kejahatannya, tetapi korban menolak. Korban dipecat sebagai akibat dari penolakan ini. Korban diduga melaporkan M. Taher Hanubun, Bupati Maluku Tenggara, untuk melakukan kekerasan seksual pada 1 September, menurut polisi. Surat bukti laporan nomor TBL/230/IX/2023/MLUKU/SPKT berisi laporan ini. Penyidik di RS Bhayangkara pada saat itu melakukan visum untuk pemeriksaan pendahuluan dan pendampingan. Proses pemeriksaan dilanjutkan keesokan harinya, tetapi pengadu meminta penundaan karena kesehatannya, menurut polisi.

Sebuah surat dari pengadu dikirimkan ke penyidik pada 6 September, tepat beberapa hari kemudian. Teks tersebut berfungsi sebagai pemberitahuan bahwa pengadu ingin pengaduan mereka berakhir dan dicabut. Menurut Combes M. Roem Ohoirat, kepala humas Polres Maluku, “Dengan alasan yang diajukan, ini adalah aib dan bencana yang dihadapi oleh pengadu, sehingga pengaduan tidak menginginkan perbedaan ini.” Namun, kasus ini belum tentu dihentikan oleh polisi. “Kasus ini tidak dihentikan karena harus diketahui bahwa itu masih diperiksa.” Dia mengklaim bahwa karena reporter hanya diberi informasi awal, informasi lebih lanjut diperlukan.

Kuasa hukum korban: Cabut laporan karena aib

Korban, orang tuanya, dan otoritas hukum terkait pencabutan laporan itu semuanya ditandatangani oleh BBC News Indonesia. Pernyataan itu berbunyi, “Kami sebagai keluarga dan pengadu merasa tidak nyaman dengan nama pengaduan yang diposting di berita karena munculnya berita di media massa, media sosial dan media elektronik.” Akibatnya, “banyak orang menyadari rasa malu pengadu, terutama mengingat keadaan di mana kita hidup berdampingan.”

Tidak ada bukti intimidasi, tekanan, ancaman, atau persuasi dari pihak mana pun, dan pencabutan laporan polisi ini juga tanpa syarat, menurut pernyataan itu, yang menyatakan bahwa keluarga pengadu dan mereka telah mencaatnya. Malik Raudhi Tuasamu, pengacara korban, mengkonfirmasi bahwa laporan ini telah ditarik kembali ketika dihubungi. “Mereka mengambil inisiatif untuk mencabutnya karena itu hanya untuk mempertahankan nama baik, jadi ya sudah,” katanya.

Kuasa hukum korban: Tidak ada pernikahan mahar RP 1miliar

Malik juga membantah laporan bahwa tersangka pelaku telah menikahi korban dan memberinya mahar Rp 1 miliar. “Ini scam.” Bukan itu, katanya. Laporan ini sebelumnya dicabut, menurut beberapa laporan berita, karena diduga pelaku telah menikahi korban dan memberinya mas kawin yang cukup besar.

Aktivis: Korban dilematis tapi punya keinginan berjuang

 Bagaimanapun, Lusi Peilouw, seorang aktivis perempuan yang berbasis di Malus yang menegaskan telah bertemu dengan korban, berpikir tekanan meningkat agar laporan itu ditarik kembali. Musabab, budaya patriarki Maluku yang masih padat memaksa korban untuk tunduk pada keinginan keluarga mereka. Lusi berkata, “Dia masih mengejar kasusnya di pengadilan, tetapi jika keluarga menolaknya atau mengintimidasi dia, dia akan menyerah.”

Keberanian keluarga untuk membela korban juga dipengaruhi oleh masalah tersangka pelaku dan korban memiliki hubungan kekuasaan yang lemah. “Terutama jika kita berurusan dengan orang-orang kaya dan berkuasa.” Semuanya bisa dibungkam dengan uang, lanjut Lusi. Selain itu, Lusi mempertanyakan alasan di balik skandal yang menyebabkan pencabutan laporan itu, yang ia sebut sebagai “cara berpikir yang sangat tidak humanis.”

Korban adalah korban, meskipun kita harus membaca dari sudut pandang yang berlawanan. Tindakan pelaku itu memalukan, katanya. Dia masih memiliki keyakinan bahwa kasus ini akan diperiksa lebih lanjut oleh polisi. You might have noticed that in the recent weeks my activity on this blog have been lagging, to say the least ( I only ever log in here to post a random cassington gifset these days, to say the most ).

In this connection, I've got two small announcements to make:

A week and a half ago, after watching Cornelius Ruck, I've finally given up and decided to create an rp blog for Red. At first, I wanted it to be a side-blog for my multimuse ( like my Whitly family's blogs are ), but then I realized that it would be more comfortable for me dash-wise to have it as a stand-alone blog. However, a day after I created it, set up the theme, uploaded the userpic and posted the tag drops, that account got terminated for whatever reason. I tried contacting Tumblr Support but my impatience got the best of me so I created a new blog - @fedoraxcrowned - which is now up and running, even though I've still got some work to do ( make myself some icons, for example ). That's where I spend most part of my Tumblr time now, which is probably one of the major reasons I've been sort of neglecting this blog ( because, apparently, my current amount of mental power is only enough for one Tumblr blog at a time ). The other major reason being the filming of the 9th season of The Blacklist and its forthcoming premiere, which, for some reason, is giving me great, nauseating anxiety, which I'm trying to avoid by staying away from news-filled part of Tumblr space. Hope you understand.

Also as a result of watching Cornelius Ruck, I've got a new TBL OTP. As you might have guessed already, it's Cassington ( Cassandra Bianchi / Raymond Reddington ). Don't get me wrong, Lizzington will always hold a special place in my heart, but Cassandra and Red suit each other and compliment each other in so many ways that I can't help but wish for them to be together ( especially, considering the fact that the writers won't give us Lizzington anyway ).

I was just rewatching The Cook for... reasons, and the thing that both punched me in the gut and made my heart surge the most during the infamous 'Red and Liz are watching their daughter Agnes having zero fun because she misses them greatly play in her kindergarten' is not even the expression on Red's face – that longing, anguished look he gives his little girl that is speaking volumes about how he's feeling ( i.e staying away from her, not being able to be a part of her life, even a small one, not being able to spend most of his time with her – have meals with her, make mud pies with her and push her on swings in the park, read bedtime stories to her, perform magic tricks for her and watch her eyes lit up with amazement, draw with her, play the piano for her and with her or, well, with her sitting on his lap and pushing random keys at random points in the melody he's playing with the most serious expression on her little face, making him smile adoringly and kiss her on the top of her head, make her smile, make her giggle, spoil her rotten and hug her and feel her hugging him back with surprising strength for her small arms, hold her as she falls asleep/naps, snuggled comfy and safely against his chest, looking so content it makes his heart melt and feel like he's somehow, in spite of all his sins, been blessed – like he used to do for 10 months before Liz woke up and decided that their separation is in order and who is he to say no to her? just the father of her child is absolutely KILLING him ) – but the fact that, apparently, even back in the 5th season the creators searched for a girl that looked like a mix of Megan and James when they cast an actress(es) for Agnes because in that scene it's obvious that she's got her mother's hair and cute little upturned nose and her father's pout and adorable round slightly upturned chin because come on those two features are so characteristic they are practically screaming Reddington !

Unfair. Hello,

I am CountVladDracula on IMVU.  And apparently I’ve been deemed “an idiot to avoid”.   

Some blog called “Idiots of IMVU” has put me on their “list of people to avoid.”

Considering I am extremely selective of who I role play with and where this seems quite odd to me.  I’d like to know who I offended that they felt the need to slander and lie about me to an RP community.   I rarely even discuss role play here on Tumblr but after receiving this message I felt the need to make a statement.

I have role played since 1996.  Starting on AOL in the AOL Chat rooms in Rhydin.  Then I played in Yahoo Groups, moving on to IMVU in 2006.

I have played tabletop.  I have played para / novella, I have played T1.  I have played TBL.    I have played FUDGE system and I have played on Tumblr (to a far lesser extent).   

If you’re going to insult me or Slanderize me, you could try not be such a lying coward in the process.

By the way, I have 19 alts on IMVU.   Chances are while you’re bad mouthing one, you might actually be friends with the other.  A little food for thought.  I don’t always play cannon characters, nor are all my characters male.   (I’m a woman in real life).

And if you wish to pretend I don’t know the various incarnations of Dracula, know this.   I have read Stoker’s novel, watched over a hundred Dracula movies (there are two hundred and change films about Dracula), read Tomb of Dracula,   Fred Saberhagen’s Dracula books, Fear the Light by William Messa, In Search of Dracula,  and various other off-canon incarnations.  I attended Frank Wildhorn’s Dracula the musical when it was on Broadway, and wrote the introduction to the Saberhagen Vampire Tales currently available on Amazon.

Was someone bitter because I have no love for the “brilliant” NBC Dracula series?  Or is it worse than that?  Is someone angry because I’m openly against the harassment of role players and bullying until they delete their account or change their screen name and pretending that’s normal for role play?

I am thirty-seven-years-old.  I have role played since- likely before you were even  born.  I have no patience for idiocy and slander.  I never asked to be a part of some petty online drama but if you’re going to add me to a list to slanderize me and beltitle something I’ve done for over twenty-years, the world should know the truth. 

You have a lot of explaining to do considering I almost never role play in public room settings.  I’m an exclusively private RPer unless someone specifically asks me to go to their public room.   I haven’t played publicly in nearly five years except when asked to go to certain rooms like The Dragon’s Egg inn (which I am an emergency Moderator for).

So apparently their reason for having me on said list is I’m a “bully” who ‘derails topics” in the RP forum.   I’m a “bully” for... having rules?  

No, I don’t “Attack” those who don’t play the way I like.  I simply don’t play with them and I guess that’s “bullying” now.   

When you play someone like Count Dracula you get a lot of solicitations from “child vampires” (who somehow are over a thousand years old) wanting a father to raise them, angry werewolves who think their drool will kill the literary character, to versions of Mina that (no Joke) were “Sent to Hell for loving Dracula” and “now Rules Hell.”    So of course I’m a LITTLE selective about the stories I want to get involved with and the RP styles I get involved in.   But I don’t attack.  I’m a role player, not a real vampire.  

Also...  Is this list doing precisely what they seem to be accusing me of doing when i won’t even give out the names of players I find to be unpleasant?  Pot meet kettle.  Seems to me like someone is bitter I won’t play with them and hopes to isolate me by getting strangers to auto-block.    That’s fine.

 Sekali Lagi Tentang Akidi Tio, Sekali Lagi Soal Sumbangan 2 T Catatan Ilham Bintang   Kasihan mendiang Akidi Tio di alam baqa. Kasihan Kapolda Sumsel. Sampai Selasa (3/8/2021) masih percaya dana 2 T nyata. Irjen Pol Prof Dr Eko Indra Heri S, MM tampaknya belum move on. Humas Kapolda Sumsel Kombes Supriadi meyakini dana 2 T itu ada dalam konferensi pers di Mapolda, Selasa (3/8). Mengaku pihak Polda sudah menyelusuri dana itu di Bank Mandiri.  Sesuai bilyet giro yang dikeluarkan  Heryanti tanggal 2 Agustus 2021. "Hanya saja itu tidak cukup saldonya," kata Supriadi. Pas Senin (2/8) di hari yang dijanjikan saldo cair, beredar luas foto giro bilyet Bank Mandiri yang ditandatangani oleh Heryanti. Tertulis nominal 2 triun (harusnya : 2 triliun). Giro itu ditujukan kepada rekening Heni Kresnowati. Nama yang terakhir, disebut-sebut adalah  Bendahara Polda Sumsel. Artinya, dana itu akan diterima institusi resmi Polda. Apakah itu dibenarkan menurut aturan, wallahu a'lam. Saya mau fokus pada proses transaksi itu.   Supriadi mengatakan karena "kurang dana" maka batal pencairan. Ada hukum yang mengatur membuka cek yang kurang dana masuk kategori cek kosong. Pelaku yang membuka cek kosong terancam pidana penipuan. Mau kurangnya cuma satu juta  perak di saldo, tetap kategorinya cek kosong. Apalagi, kalau kurang banyak atau malah uang yang tergenang hanya satu juta perak.   Ada yang usul :kenapa tidak minta pihak Bank Mandiri membuka saja berapa saldo di rekening Heryanti? Tidak bisa. UU Perbankan melarang itu. Kecuali Heryanti telah ditetapkan tersangka penipuan terkait dana 2 T tersebut. Dengan status itu, polisi punya akses meminta pihak bank membuka. Heryanti sendiri sedianya akan menghadapi pemeriksaan lanjutan di Mapolda Sumsel Selasa kemarin. Namun, mendadak sakit. Ganti unit kesehatan Polda yang mendatangi rumahnya untuk memeriksakan kesehatannya.   Mungkin Putri bungsu Akidi Tio ini stress. Tidak menyangka urusan jadi runyam begini. Padahal, baru seminggu lalu Heryanti mendapat applaus panjang dari seluruh penduduk negeri atas kedermawanannya. Seperti dielu-elukan pahlawan bulutangkis kita yang kemarin menyabet Medali Emas di Olimpiade Tokyo.   Senin malam sehabis diperiksa polisi tujuh jam dia menutupi seluruh wajahnya. Sambil merunduk dia keluar dari pintu depan Polda menuju mobilnya. Ia  sama sekali tak menghiraukan sapaan wartawan. Kasus di Polda Metro Jaya Kemarin, saya menulis Heryanti rupanya punya juga masalah yang ditangani Polda Metro Jaya. Setelah itu, ramai media memberitakan kasus yang dibenarkan oleh Humas Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Pol Yusri Yunus. "Tapi pelapor sudah mencabut laporannya. Penyidik akan mengundang lagi si pelapor untuk minta klarifikasi kenapa laporannya dicabut," terang Yusri kepada wartawan hari Selasa (3/8) siang. Heryanti Tio dilaporkan oleh seseorang yang berinisial JBK pada Februari 2020. Nomer laporannya TBL/1025/II/ YAN.2.5/SPKT PMJ. Percaya dana 2 T ada Manusia mana pula yang tidak down menghadapi masalah secara beruntun begini? Berbeda halnya kalau orang yang pernah dipinjami uang oleh Heryanti punya pengertian, seperti Siti Mirza Nuria Arifin (67 tahun). Dia sabar menunggu, meski pernah juga dia melayangkan somasi karena pinjamannya belum dibayar Heryanti. Kejadiannya 3 tahun lalu.  Dokter kandungan itu, yang pernah menyandang gelar Putri Sriwijaya Fair, lebih memilih jalan damai. Dia dengan Heryanti sudah lama bersahabat. Janda 3 anak itu yang setahun lalu ditinggal wafat oleh suaminya menaruh harapan Heryanti akan membayarnya. Dia percaya uang warisan Akidi Tio akan cair. Dengan begitu Heryanti segera melunasi utang kepadanya. Mirip sumber Dahlan Ada kemiripan kisah tokoh "Si Cantik" dalam tulisan berseri Dahlan Iskan, tiga hari berturut - turut dengan Siti Mirza Nuria Arifin. Nama lengkap Mirza ini banyak huruf "I" juga. Semuanya 6 huruf "I". Sedangkan "Si Cantik" -- begitu julukan Dahlan terhadap sumbernya yang masih dirahasiakan sampai sekarang, Dahlan cuma kasih klu: namanya punya lima huruf "I". Jumlah uang pinjaman kepada Heryanti nominalnya beda tipis. Piutang "Si Cantik" Dahlan jumlahnya bulat 3 M. Sedangkan Mirza kurang dari jumlah itu. Pinjamannya pun tidak sekaligus, bertahap hingga mencapai jumlah Rp. 2,5 M. Sudahlah. Pesan tulisan ini ayolah segera move on. Kecuali itu kalau Tuhan Allah SWT menurunkan mukjizat. Seperti yang disampaikan Gubernur Sumatera Selatan di TV One semalam. Ia mengimbau semua pihak mengakhiri kegaduhan ini. "Polisi saya minta segera mengusut tuntas siapapun yang terlibat," katanya. Berdasar tahayyul Menkopolhukam RI, Mahfud MD mengirim pesan di WA saya kemarin siang. Mengapresiasi tulisan "Mengurai Benang Kusut Skandal Sumbangan 2 T" ( Ilham Bintang, 3 Agustus). "Ulasan yang bagus, Pak Ilham. Ketika menjabat Menhan dan Ketua MK saya beberapa kali juga punya pengalaman akan di “prank” seperti itu. Tapi saya sadar bahwa mereka itu pasti hanya petualang konyol. Masak, mau menyumbang ke negara lewat Menhan atau Ketua MK? Harusnya kan ke kementerian keuangan utk validasi dulu. Disana ada dirjen kekayaan negara dan dirjen Pajak. Pak Ilham, bagus, mari bersama kita bangun bangsa ini dengan rasionalitas," tulis Mahfud yang telah mengizinkan juga saya kutip pesan itu. Ada pesan yang mau disampaikan lagi, Prof?   "Tidak ada lagi kecuali penekanan, mari jangan terjebak halu dan irasionalitas. Bangsa ini akan benar-benar menjadi besar jika menguatkan kinerja yang rasional berdasar iman, bukan berdasar tahayyul," kata Mahfud.
