Footballers as Pokémon trainers - pt1, Messi

I decided to mash my two biggest hyperfixations together so yeah let’s just get straight into it

just gonna tag my pokemon mutuals @liverpool-enjoyer and @addictivewhispering !!!! sorry for the tag haha, I just wanted u to see this and validate me :D

Lionel Messi

Messi is probably the only player who will be getting a full team of six, since he’s the greatest player ever I thought it would be fitting for him to have a full team. I based it off stuff about him. Just know that every footballer has a Cinderace as well to train with. I think Messi wouldn't be huge on Pokemon battling tbh, he definitely wouldn't be like a trainer who plays with strategy, moreso he just trusts his team to do their best despite whatever happens.

1. Espurr

Max already explained this but I’d like to expand on it…Espurr is a lot of psychic power in a small body just like Messi is a lot of talent in a tiny body lol. I think Espurr would 100% be his starter Pokémon. I also doubt Messi would evolve it because he likes it this way. But Messi is definitely a good trainer, like really good he probably uses an Everstone.

2. Gogoat

Get it? Because he’s the goat. Also Skiddo (gogoat’s previous form) reminds me a lot of young Messi, just like a strapping brash excitable individual I guess.

3. Arcanine

Arcanine reminds me of Hulk, Messi’s dog. It’s also a fire type, which I think would be native to South America because it’s a sunny, hot weather continent. Arcanine’s “hair” also reminds me of Messi’s bleach hair era so 🤷🏽‍♂️

4. Marshadow

Probably the only mythical/legendary I’m gonna give any player. I imagine Marshadow isn’t really “his”, but just it follows Messi around and randomly shows up at interviews and games and stuff like that. It travels in his shadow all the time and shows itself from time to time.

5. A Shiny Phantump

I feel like Messi would be a ghost type trainer, if he specialized? Theyre silent and calm like he is. Phantump feels like it would be like Marshadow, just a quiet companion for Messi who follows him around and stuff. And if you're wondering why it's shiny...well white for la scaloneta, blue for barca and red for barca as well. also I just think messi would find those colors more welcoming I guess?

6. Alolan Sandslash

This is probably Messi's main battler. It's blue and white like la Scaloneta and it can roll into a ball so it looks like a football. It's the least personality-connected which is why I think it'd be the one messi uses the most to battle. Its sharp edges also make me think of how Messi can be a killing machine on the pitch.

A strong tie between Dragon-Types and Electric-Types! As a general rule I think all the Dragon-Types are near-perfect, but I love a lot of Electric-Types too!

2. First starter you ever had?

Totodile! My first game was Soulsilver. For the life of me I can’t remember what I named him, though. Britts, I think? The name of a donut shop at the beach I loved when I was a kid.

3. If you could choose to live in any town in any region, which would it be?

Somewhere in Galar… maybe Ballonlea? The whole ‘glowing forest’ thing is really cool!

I'm very fond of Soulsilver-era Johto, but I'd say Galar! That region was the first time I looked at the game I was playing and thought "Wow, I can really see how someone would want to, and could, be a Pokemon trainer." Framing it as similar to sports was a great move, and the characters were really fun!

8.Name a favorite Pokemon from each of the generations.

(of those I haven't mentioned before:) Persian, Arbok, Sceptile, Drapion, Eelektross, Pumpkaboo, Lurantis, Theivul, and Kilowattrel!

10. What future eeveelution type do you hope for?

I'd love to see how they'd pull off a Bug-Type eeveelution, tbh. Maybe based off a bee or something?

11. Favorite gym leader?

Ohh, this is hard... either Drayden or Kabu!

12. Favorite “roaming” Pokemon?

Raikou!

13. What do you think the next generation of game should be called?

I thought about this for several minutes and the only thing my brain came up with was 'Pokemon Storm' and 'Pokemon Surge', so do with that what you will!

16. Which game is your most favorite?

At the moment I'm gonna have to say Violet. The plot + characters are very strong in my opinion, I was very invested in the story and teared up at a few points. Also Meowscarada, Miraidon, and Tatsugiri's existence alone make it a fave.

17. Which game is your least favorite?

Moon. Never finished it and I'll probably sell it soon, so someone else can enjoy it. Legends: Arceus also quickly became stale to me, though I can see why some like it!

18. If you could create a new Pokemon type, what would it be?

Perhaps something based on sound?

19. Name your favorite thing about each game generation.

I can't say anything about the early gens, unfortunately. For Gen IV, the dual regions in SS/HG was neat, Gen V had beautiful environments in the pixel style (Chargestone Cave was really neat) + Team Plasma's battle theme, Gen VI had Professor Sycamore, Gen VII had Team Skull who I adore, and Gen VIII had Champion Leon! As for the newest gen, befriending your box legendary as you go is really fun, lol.

20. Favorite hold item and why?

Black Glasses just because its so, so funny to picture. Practicality-wise, Shell Bell!

21. Favorite TM?

Shadow Ball!

22. Favorite HM?

Surf!

24. Which professor is your favorite?

7) Shadow the Hedgehog / Tikal the Echidna - Sonic the Hedgehog

They never met in canon, so no shot of them sharing a scene together lol

Very nostalgic ship for me. This was practically my entrypoint into the world of shipping as a whole TBH. My first contact with it came through the 2006's era of AMVs, and ship tribute videos. I may no longer be into STH, but I still hold this ship very dearly to me.

6) Solid Snake / Samus Aran - Smash Bros.

It's another trip through memory lane. Similarly to Shadikal, I also got introduced to Snakus via those old AMVs. Although, I was a bit older by the time I learned about this ship, than I was with the latter. By the time I had taken my very first step into Deviantart, and I remember spending HOURS scouring the website, for anything and everything related to them. Good times lol

5) Alucard / Richter Belmont - Castlevania

If those ships were my entrypoints into shipping in general. This one was my entrypoint into yaoi/mlm/BL ships. This ship isn't ranked higher because, I have a funky story with it. From my enjoyment of it being quite flaky, from going on and off constantly. At the time I learned about it, it coincided with the peak of the whole Seme/Uke tropes, which practically killed the characters to me. It was bc of that type of character portrayal, that drove me off from reading fanfics altogether.

4) Dawn/Barry - Pokemon

Whenever I say that Shadikal was my introduction into the world of shipping, what I really mean is that... I'm unsure who really takes the cake on that. As seeing how back then I was into both Pokemon AND STH, so I came across ship videos to both Shadikal and Twinleafship at around the same exact time. Anyway, gen 4 as a whole is very nostalgic to me, so ofc these two are also very special to me.

3) Priest Mahad/Priest Seto - Yugioh

It's way too funny how much I fell in love with this ship, at the very end of my interest in YGO. I just think they have a good chemistry....... I promise it is there, somewhere. I'm dead sure, I clinged onto YGO for only a little longer, because of those two. And here we have a proof of my love for small and mostly unknown ships, in most fandoms I land myself in.

2) Plo Koon/Commander Wolffe - Star Wars

Sorry Fandom, I didn't catch the memos on the babyfication of Wolffe and the rest of the 104th clone legion, neither was I interested in seeing people's daddy issues that they are projecting onto Plo Koon. I was really disappointed to see how little romantic content there was of these two, bc ppl decided to do that with them, for some reason lol. I'm in the trenches with these two. Also, these two were the reason I got back into reading fanfics LMAO.

1) Taurus Aldebaran/Aries Mu - Saint Seiya

🎉These two are currently holding my braincells hostage🎉

Head empty there is now only Aldemu. I'm going to indulge myself in over 20 years of fan-made content, about these two, see you all around. I think what really hit the nail in my brain about these two was learning how, even one of the former directors for some of the episodes within the Hades arc, also enjoys these two and has posted some of his drawings of them. To me, that's almost as good as making them canon (and let me clear, regardless of whether or not they're canon, it wouldn't affect my enjoyment of these two).

I'm just happy the Brazilian guy is tied to a popular ship, and is gaining love via it.

The Love Of My Life, Video Games

Good morning Alex, I’ve talked about 2 of the things I’m most passionate about already, so today I’m gonna delve into the biggest one of them all, video games. Video games are my favourite form of art. It’s the perfect culmination of art, story, music and interactivity. You know what they say, “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but is oftentimes better than a master of one.” I live by this quote tbh.

My earliest memory of video games is when I was 7 or so, playing Plants Vs Zombies with my best friend. It sparked a lifelong obsession with video games. Now, the name is kinda silly, but this game revolutionised the Tower Defense genre. It’s extremely fun and addicting and has spawned several other sequels. Then I went on to discover Flash games. What are Flash games? Well, there used to be a thing made by Adobe, the Flash Player, which helped in displaying multimedia on a web browser. It was the standard for video games back then. It has been deprecated in favour of modern web technologies, but it has a special place in the hearts of internet kids.

Android Games

Back in the early 2010s, when mobile game developers had passion, business was booming. Classics like Angry Birds, Cut The Rope, Clash of Clans, Temple Run were all made in this era.

I’m sure everyone and their grandparents and their great-grandparents know these games. All of them have sadly fallen into the microtransaction trap or died out (microtransactions, if you don’t know, is the practice of letting players buy in-game currencies or cosmetics, modern games have become more cash grabs than actual games with passion behind them). Nevertheless, they defined my childhood and were the gateway for me to actual games.

Pokemon

The premise of Pokemon is simple. Catch Pokemon (short for Pocket Monsters), make them fight other Pokemon (swear this is not slavery or dogfighting), make relationships, maybe save the world (as a 10 yo might I add, while surrounded by capable adults.) Funny story, I remember crying when I accidentally released my Grovyle thinking release meant releasing it as in having it walk alongside you like Pikachu, not as in bye bye release.

This is Grovyle. You can see why I cried.

Pokemon Red, Gold, and Emerald (yes, I know, ancient games, I’m not a grandma, I just didn’t have a console or know how to emulate consoles back then) were some of the first games I played on PC, because they were available online. Since then, I’ve played pretty much every Pokemon game released with a few exceptions because Pokemon releases two versions of the same game with minor differences (yes, emulated, I’m not buying a 10 year old end of life console that is resold with a huge markup and the original creators are making no money out of it, sue me (Okay, if you’re a Nintendo employee, I know you love suing people, so please don’t take me seriously. Please)). I think Pokemon was the beginning of my obsession with knowing literally everything about a franchise.

Minecraft

The first game I ever bought is Minecraft. I’ve loved watching Minecraft videos on YouTube and playing minecraft knockoffs for a long time before I bought it. My dad bought it for me as a reward for winning 4/8 chess games in the State Championship lol. It’s a sandbox game created by Hatsune Miku (actually, by Markus Persson, or Notch, but he turned out to be a transphobe so we just collectively retconned his existence). It’s a pretty simple game, it’s all about creativity. You can build pretty much everything, people have made actual computers in Minecraft, or, if you like Survival, there’s also a survival mode where the technical endpoint being killing the dragon in the aptly named The End dimension. This doesn’t necessarily have to be the endpoint as you can do whatever you want.

Undertale

Ah, my favourite game ever. This is the game that inspired me to become a game developer. Undertale is an RPG game created in its entirety by Toby Fox, you can see why that inspired 10 yo me. Also, I hate my 10 yo self, she watched HECKING YOUTUBE VIDEOS OF GAMEPLAY. I’ll never forgive her for not letting me experience the game by myself, I swore after this (and one other game I’ll talk about) to never even touch anything pertaining to any media I might potentially interact with ever in my life with a 10 foot pole. I don’t even watch trailers for DC movies, like what, what could the trailer possibly spoil that I haven’t read before in a comic??? I won’t talk much about Undertale as I want you to experience what I couldn’t, but it has a very emotional story that’s made grown adults cry, fun gameplay mechanics, easter eggs literally everywhere, leitmotifs in the music, awesome lore, a lesbian couple who are goals and 6 dogs.

Subnautica

Subnautica is the first PC game I bought. This is the other game I spoke about that made me avoid spoilers like the plague. I regret not being able to experience the terror that this game inflicts, although, it was still plenty scary, would have been scarier had I not known everything about every creature. Subnautica is an underwater exploration game set on a crater on planet 4546B. As someone who loves speculative biology, I was impressed by the thought put into every creature's biology.

The rest of my favourite games

I went on to buy, uh, um, exactly 3 other games, being um, the three Batman: Arkham games. These are very well made games with an awesome story and, pardon the cliche, make you feel like the Batman, addicting gameplay, (believe me, I have a collective 200 hours, and I’ve owned them for a year. Most of the other games I’ve played I’ve gotten on Epic Games for free, yes I’m such a cheapskate I get every game that goes free on Epic Games.

The Tomb Raider series is one famous for creating Lara Croft, probably the most influential female character in video games. I’ve only played the first two games of the Survivor Rebooted trilogy sadly, I wish sometime in the future I’ll get to play the Windows 95 era games.

Alien: Isolation is a game set between the first two movies in the Alien franchise. I watched the movies just so I could play the game, then because I’m a scaredy cat I only played until the alien appeared 💀. The game seems fun tho.

Surviving Mars is a “city” building simulation game. It’s set on Mars, obviously. It’s a very fun game, managing resources, keeping colonizers colonists alive. I suck tho so my colonists keep dying :P

Favorite Childhood Movies

First of all I feel like saying that I have shitty memory, like it’s very hard to remember childhood shit in more than vague ideas. So like remembering movies I liked took me a while, and some of these I only remember the vague memory and feeling of it rather than why I liked it or what it’s about beyond a basic idea. But whatever here we go, not in any particular order:

1. Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island

I mean what’s not to love? I could probably put all the scooby-doo movies from the 90s-2000s era (witches curse, cyber chase, etc.) because I remember vividly watching them on cartoon network whenever they were on as a kid. I put this one specifically because it’s probably the best (though actually it’s tied easily with witches curse tbh)

2. Snow Queen (2002)

(first off i could only find like two gifs for this movie so...) Okay like this one is one I loved as a kid. Whenever me, my sister, and my cousins stayed at my (dad’s side) grandparents house we’d go to blockbuster and we’d get to pick out movies. I would always pick this one, like every time. Plus my cousins always picked Jurassic Park and at that point I was terrified of that movie (while I love it now) so this was what I watched while they watched that. Also when Frozen came out I was lowkey disappointed because it’s based off the snow queen but is pretty much NOTHING like the original fairy-tale (which is one of my fave fairytales because of this movie) so like it made me a little bitter

3. Moulin Rouge

Yeah... uh not really a kids movie. But literally one of my favorites both then and now. Like I adored this movie. I even stole the dvd from my grandparents because I wanted it at home. I just, I loved the love story and the music and the vibes. Just I adored it. (but yeah... I do have to question why I was allowed to watch this when I was under the age of 10?)

4. Scooby-Doo (live-action)

Okay a lot of my childhood was evidently Scooby-Doo filled. And I mean, with masterpieces like this how can I complain? Seriously though, this movie was so fun and just great at the time and now. Plus like literally perfect casting.

5. The Pagemaster

This movie I remember my (mom’s side) grandparents having this movie in their collection in their RV and I remember it always being one of my go-to’s to watch whenever we went camping or were staying in the RV somewhere. Like it was one of my favorites there. Also I thought it was cool that it was live action and animated. Also the horror section was SO SCARY

6. Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School

Yes. Another scooby-doo movie. like I said apparently my childhood is 80% scooby-doo. I’m not complaining. This one though it’s like one of those secret special memories where I remember it always being special whenever I caught it on tv and like I remember it seeming like it only came on once in a blue moon. Idk this one’s got like weird memory vibes attached to it but in a good way.

7. Oliver and Company

This one is still my favorite disney movie tbh. Like it just makes me really happy to watch it. Both then and now. I remember loving this as a kid, don’t remember my reasoning, but I know I did. (also I still really want an orange cat so I can name him Oliver)

8. Peter Pan (2003)

I still think this is hands down the best Peter Pan movie to date. It’s just so good and I’d watch it a lot as a kid. Also I think I had a crush on Peter as a kid too so. It was just a magical movie and so good.

9. The Little Vampire

I actually watched this recently because I was feeling nostalgic. Okay, so I remember loving this movie every October when it would come onto Disney Channel. It was definitely one of my favorites during that time of year to watch. And, if I may say so, it still holds up considering.

10. Tuck Everlasting

Another movie I rewatched recently out of nostalgia! It just was a movie I really enjoyed, and I also have memories of watching it whenever my mom would bring me and my sister to her office. I mean, I remember we’d bring along a small (old and probably heavy) tv and this movie and watch it in her office while she did real estate agent stuff. It was nice. (also I always thought she was the same age as Tuck, but she’s like 13/14?!? so rewatching it now with that knowledge was a trip)

Honorable Mentions because I thought of them but either couldn’t find a gif or ran out of spots: Buddy (1997), Titanic (that double vcr tape masterpiece), the first Pokemon movie, and most of the Disney Channel Original Movies catalogue from the 90s and early 2000s

Everyone is seems to be talking to you on your opinions on the FF7 Remake. I barely know the FF series, TBH. However, going in a different direction, how would YOU change the original game to bring it to this day? Try not to consider the Remake, but the original game by itself. Always appreciate your stuff, Blaze! (Sorry for the poor english)

Well I hate to sound like a broken record, but I think the gold standard is Resident Evil. Both the original remake from the Gamecube era, and now Resident Evil 2.

Those remakes change a bunch of stuff! And add a lot of new content! Puzzle solutions are different, there’s new monsters to fight, they rework the layout of environments and add new areas to explore, and so on. In terms of Resident Evil 2, they also change up where some story beats go, like when you meet Robert Kendo or where Mr. X shows up.

But they keep it in the spirit of the original games. They say, “Here is what we were trying to do in 1998, but now better realized.” The shooting is better, the mechanics are tighter, the cutscenes are more cinematic and less goofy. But you can still point at them and say, “That’s Resident Evil.”

The problem is, after Final Fantasy 7, Square-Enix started experimenting wildly with what their RPGs are supposed to play like.

Like, Final Fantasy 8, right. They did away with weapon equips entirely. You have one sword for the entire game. Magic spells are now vacuumed up from special fountains or captured from enemies like Pokemon. There’s the overly complicated Guardian Force system with affinities and learned abilities and that whole mess.

Chrono Cross goes in the opposite direction and basically does away with experience points and leveling up. You only level up after bosses in that game, so you can’t ever be under-leveled for anything (but that means you also can’t be over-leveled for anything either, a key feature I like about JRPGs).

And it continued like that. Every new game felt like they were trying new ways to reinvent different wheels because they were out of ideas on how to improve the core turn based mechanics. So Final Fantasy mutated, and mutated, and mutated… until it’s become basically unrecognizable to me.

So what do you go back to? What has Final Fantasy ever been? Can it even be defined, outside of fashion model character designs and the vague concept of “swords?”

To be honest, I would have been fine if the Final Fantasy franchise had ended a long time ago. But I feel like, with the fact that none of the games have to be connected to each other, that gave Square-Enix a license to keep going well past the point of logic or sense. Anything can be a Final Fantasy now! Which also means Final Fantasy is nothing specific, not anymore.

If I were handling the remake, I’d use this as an opportunity to re-examine turn based combat and figure out what made it appealing. We’ve had a spate of games like that recently – again, we have Resident Evil. After Resident Evil 6 imploded for being too much of a summer blockbuster, Capcom was surprised by the sales of Resident Evil Remake HD, leading to Resident Evil 7 re-focusing on horror and giving us Resident Evil 2 Remake.

And then you have Doom 2016, which similarly backpedaled after Doom 3 went in a new direction.

“Back to basics” is in-vogue right now, so instead of pushing Final Fantasy 7 to conform to the example set by 15, we could go back and just give it a turn based battle system. You could say that “Final Fantasy 13 just had a turn based battle system, it wasn’t that long ago” – but you have to remember that FF13 released eleven years ago. It’s been a while.

If not that, if they’re really set on making it in to more of an action-based experience, then go all the way action. None of this “wait until your ATB meter fills up to access your inventory” weirdness. Making it this weird half-step between turn based and an action game is what bothers me the most right now, because it feels like the elements don’t fit together.

How you’d handle the story is a different subject, and one I haven’t thought about on a super deep level, because there’s a lot of story in FF7 to sift through and remember. But I can tell you right now I wouldn’t end it the way the current Final Fantasy 7 Remake ends, which is…

But really, my example is just “Do it like Resident Evil and Doom did it by making it like the old games, but still good.” I know that’s an incredibly basic appraisal, but that’s what I feel like. Because, like I said, what do you even go back to? Final Fantasy’s greatest consistency is its inconsistency. The primary thing it’s been good at… is that it hasn’t been good for me for a long time.

I just wish it was, and the FF7 Remake was a great chance for that to happen.

What on earth about the game looks cheap besides maybe the attack animation we've seen from scorbunny? The full environments look beautiful, I'm loving the new pokemon, and we still don't know what probably 70% of the game is like outside the usual pokemon mechanics. Plus we're likely to get most of the pokemon from the past. We've already seen a number of pokemon from other gens that will be in the galarian dex so tbh I could care less if some are missing, as long as it serves this gen

gonna rant about video games in a readmore

Most of the issues are with animations, although the textures in the Wild Area leave a lot to be desired. This is a 2019 Switch game.

But the main issue is that they play up the “oh we’re limiting the number of Pokemon so we can make the ones that are in the game extra expressive” but they’re really not. Pokemon in the Wild Area don’t interact with each other or their environment in any meaningful way, they just stand there and walk around occasionally (Wingull doesn’t even flap its wings so it looks like it’s t-posing around the environment). All of the existing Pokemon models and animations were made literal years ago, as they made the XY models to higher specs than necessary for the 3DS with the intent of being able to reuse them moving forward - implementing them into Sword and Shield was a matter of updating the textures at most.

Pretty much all the Pokemon battle animations conform to a specific pool - idle stance, physical attack, special attack, getting hit, fainting, Pokemon Amie/Refresh/camping animations, and it doesn’t seem like these games are attempting to add more variety to that pool or give the new Pokemon any more than that. Physical attacks are never shown connecting, we just get the attacker playing a stock physical attack animation while a texture or effect shows up in front of the defender - keep in mind that Pokemon Battle Revolution, a Wii game from more than a decade ago, had that. Hell, the Pokemon console games from the N64 and GameCube eras are still a lot more lively and animated than what we’ve seen of Sword and Shield (probably because they were developed by Nintendo EAD, HAL Laboratory, and Genius Sonority rather than Game Freak).

To sum it up, they lack polish. Compare them to, say, Breath of the Wild or Xenoblade 2. It really gives off the vibe that they’re doing the bare minimum to make these games functional, and it just doesn’t feel like there’s any passion. It’s more like they’re just copying-and-pasting what they can, filling in the gaps, and pushing it out the door on an annual cycle because it’s Pokemon and everyone’s gonna buy it anyway. And then they have the audacity to not even bother copy-pasting half the Pokemon in (again, all the models and animations already exist) because it’s too much work for the core games of the highest-grossing media franchise of all time. Game Freak isn’t some tiny indie dev struggling to make ends meet. They have all the resources they could possibly need to bring on more manpower, delay releases, or even have the big N hook them up with some additional studios to outsource to (BotW had help from MonolithSoft, for instance). They just choose not to because it sells anyway.

I love Pokemon. I don’t think I can state that enough. It’s been with me for over 20 years now, and I can’t think of a game series that’s anywhere near as dear to me. So that’s why it really sucks to see its developers give so few fucks.

I won’t go immensely in-depth because a) that’d take forever and b) I want to do separate posts and drawings and stuff for a bunch of these

Okay, so, going in the order that I mentioned them in the tags:

(whoops this is going under a cut because It Got Long)

The Pokemon AU

More of a fusion than strictly an AU, I guess, because it’s pretty much “canon, but there are pokemon”.

I’ve determined full teams for the whole ‘crew, along with the genders, levels, abilities, natures, and movesets of all of their pokemon. I got… really into it. I went way too detailed with their teams. I even know what kind of pokeball each of their pokemon are in. I’m in the process of nicknaming them. I’ve also got scatterings of backstory for how they came to have each of the pokemon in their teams!

For now, I’ll tell you what their teams are, along with the nicknames and such of their pokemon. More in-depth stuff (such as aforementioned abilities and movesets and also the backstories) should probably be saved for a different post.

Diath:

“Cath” - Klefki - ♂

Ninjask - ♀

Scyther - ♀

Liepard - ♂

“Dawnguide” - Absol - ♀

“Gutter” - Aegislash - ♂

The pattern I went with for nicknaming Diath’s pokemon is based off of the one thing we’ve seen him name in canon - Moonsplinter. So the nicknames for his pokemon, when I eventually come up with them, will be two nouns put together into a name that connects what was named to someone or something important to him. Cath and Gutter are exceptions to the pattern because they were gift pokemon and came with the names (…sort of, in Cath’s case).

Evelyn:

“Morning Glory” - Rapidash - ♀

“Periwinkle” - Lycanroc (Midnight Forme) - ♀

“Thistleberry” - Eevee - ♂

“Sunflower” - Larvesta - ♀

“Jonquil” - Solrock - N/A

“Juniper” - Pichu - ♀

The pattern I went with for nicknaming Evelyn’s pokemon started with Morning Glory and Juniper - I figured that since Evelyn showed a predilection towards plant names in canon, it was as good a theme as any to run with. Thistleberry is the closest to breaking that pattern, since I’ve been unable to find out if that’s actually a real plant (I’ve found thimbleberries but not thistleberries, so I feel like they might be a fantasy thing) in which case you could argue that he was named for Evelyn’s favourite pie. The reasoning for Sunflower should be obvious, a jonquil is a kind of flower similar to a daffodil which sort of resembles a sun in shape, and periwinkles mean “early friendship” in flower language, and Evie sure does make friends fast.

Jonquil may or may not mean “I desire a return of affection” in flower language but sshhhh, that was unintentional

Strix:

“Fuzzywuzz” - Venomoth - ♂

“Waffles” - Ursaring - ♀

Mismagius - ♀

“Stinky Junior” - Garbodor - ♀

“Clothy McClothface” - Banette - ♀

“Stinky” - Alolan Rattata - ♂

I don’t think I really need to explain the pattern/theme for naming Strix’s pokemon because, well, *gestures at canon* I just tried to follow the existing naming patterns.

“Charlotte” - Chatot - ♀

Gengar - ♂

“Peter” - Baltoy - ♂

Alolan Marowak- ♀

I don’t strictly have a naming pattern for Paultin, wildcard that he is. I’ve just been operating on a general rule of “regular real life name that sounds fitting” (a la him naming Simon) or “reference”.

The Superhero AU

You are getting far less information about this one because it’s going to be getting posts of its own when I finally get the drawings for it finished - I’m going to do character profiles and everything.

The basic premise is a vaguely-modern-era-ish Waterdeep (in a vaguely-modern-era-ish Faerun) has a lot of superheroes running around and the Wafflecrew happens to be one of the teams that call the city home. Diath, Strix, Evelyn and Paultin are all doing the secret identity thing and there will be shenanigans involving those because, well, here’s the thing:

The Wafflecrew is a superhero team who’s members keep their identities secret even from each other, mostly because they haven’t been together as a team for very long yet.

Diath, Strix, Evelyn, and Paultin, however, are a group of friends who happen to share a flat. Who are all trying very hard not to let on to their friends that they’re a superhero.

So. Shenanigans.

(Well, except for Diath and Strix. They know about each other’s secret identities)

I won’t tell you everyone’s codenames, though, because ~character profiles~ :3c

The Daemon AU

This one is more loosely defined than the others, to be honest. I will say, straight up, that I have never read His Dark Materials and don’t have any particular intent to, because I’ve read enough excerpts to know I could never get through it. But the concept of daemons is really cool and fun and I’ve read a ton of daemon aus and I feel no shame in yoinking the concept for an au despite never having read the source material.

Evelyn’s daemon is a Norwegian Forest Cat named Carwyn, Paultin’s is a lyrebird named Leto, Strix’s is a Barred Owl named Cináed, and Diath’s… well, if you were to ask him, he’d tell you that his daemon is a very shy house spider named Perdita. The thing is, nobody’s ever actually seen her…

Diath may or may not be in a Special Situation in this AU thanks to the whole ancient-soul-that-Shemeshka-has-part-of circumstance

The Class Swap AU

This one!! Is one that I love!! a lot!! And also one that I fully intend to give its own post with art.

It started with me realising that Mason Marthain existing presented the perfect Backstory Butterfly to play with things a little and justify Evelyn being a rogue in a class swap AU. From there, I just kept playing with their backstories to see what there was that could be tugged on to shift them to one of each other’s classes. Ultimately, my class swap AU stands as such:

Evelyn Marthain, a swashbuckler rogue. Inspired by a slightly different family member, in this universe, Evelyn decided at a young age that rather than follow in her father’s footsteps, she wanted to follow in her uncle’s. Thus, rather than training at the Spires and taking on the mantle of a paladin, she apprenticed on her Uncle’s ship throughout her childhood, and eventually became a rogue.

Diath Woodrow, an oath of devotion paladin. A childhood on the streets went just a little bit differently for Diath, this time around. After a paladin caught him preventing another street kid from pickpocketing, he got taken in by the Church of Selune and found a calling that appealed to his sense of duty and his desire for adventure at the same time. (How does the oath of devotion’s call to obey just authority mix with being chaotic good, you might ask? Well, how does one define “just” authority? In Class Swap!Diath’s case, as soon as someone abuses their power, their authority is no longer just)

Paultin Seppa, a wild magic sorceror. Paultin honestly doesn’t know where his powers came from. They’ve been at the tips of his fingers for as long as he can remember. It probably has something to do with the big swath of his childhood that he can’t remember but he’s not particularly bothered with trying to figure it out. (The thing is, a panicking, traumatised child, very much going into shock, tearing through the mists of Barovia and out of Ravenloft, all on his own and without parental supervision for the very first time, has so much potential to go wrong. He stumbled through a few less than hospitable places before he ended up on the Prime Material)

Strix, a college of glamour bard. Her years in the Feywild were harsh and this time it wasn’t Baba Yaga whose care she stumbled into. She learned a lot, living amongst the fey, and not least amongst that was how a silver tongue, with words carefully chosen and used, is a magic all of its own and also a very dangerous weapon.

I can’t say anything about the two AUs I’m currently writing fics for because spoilers~ so just know that They Exist

The Star Wars AU is extremely conceptual. It features aspiring Jedi Knight Evelyn Marthain, an Alderaanian human raised in the Coruscant Jedi Temple, travelling musician Paultin Seppa, a human of mysterious origin who has an even more mysterious knowledge of the Force, given that he seemingly has no connection to any known Force sects, galactic treasure hunter/archaeologist Diath Woodrow, a human from Coronet City on Corellia, whose heritage may-or-may-not have originated on a certain planet starting with ‘M’, and Strix, a force-sensitive woman of indeterminate species (at first glance, you might think zabrak, but zabraks don’t have tails. They also usually don’t have hair but it’s not like hybrids are completely an unknown possibility… the thing is, if she’s a hybrid, there’s no way she’s a hybrid of just two)

The RWBY AU is Exactly What It Says On The Tin. It’s just an AU where the Wafflecrew are in Remnant. They comprise Team DEPS (”Deeps”) and all I’ve really figured out is their weapons and semblances and tbh, as an AU, it’s probably not going much further than that.

I had a Lot of fun with their semblances, though.

*cracks knuckles* AH, I’M SO GLAD YOU ASKED. Heh. Heh. HEH. IT’SSSSSS CHRISTMAS TIMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! (I type this as I’m listening to Enya-esque Gaelic Christmas songs from the 1800′s. My heart. Omfg.)

1. Favorite Christmas tradition?

We have so many, honestly. It’s the only holiday we have traditions with. It’s a seriously significant day for me and would honestly give me hope every year throughout my childhood. If I could just hold out until Christmas, I would be okay. Because Christmas was the happiest day of my life. Always. I think my favourite is watching all the old stop-motion Christmas films towards bedtime with the couch pulled out into a bed in front of the fireplace that had a fire going with the tree off to the side glittering and shimmering. Since I was born, my parents have never lived in a place that didn’t have a fireplace. Not even the house I grew up in in Florida. That’s what I immediately think of when I see this scene in my mind, despite the fact it has taken place other places.

2. White lights or colored lights?

Oh, psh, that’s not even a contest for me. :p You should be able to answer this one for me, actually. Hahaha. ANYONE who has known me for 2 seconds would be able to answer this one. COLOURED LIGHTS, OFC! The more colour, the better!! There’s an app out that can control the pattern of your light flashing to do it in all these different light-show style flashing and up and down movement and stuff and aw, man, it’s so fucking cool! Idk how it works, though. Ergh.

3. Real or fake Christmas tree?

Okay, so, my roommate has as big of a love for Christmas as I do. Well, ALMOST. And we agreed on p much EVERYTHING Christmas and it was so happy and stuff until we went with the family to buy the tree. All four of us. . .in the store. . .Me, my other three roommates, him included. Only missing one member of the family there, but he’s not a roommate of ours; just a friend. So he wasn’t included in the household tree picking. Lol. But anyways. . .My roommate and I have never disagreed on ANYTHING regarding Christmas. Chelle asked us “So...looks like fake ones are less expensive, so...Which one do you guys want?”

At the exact same time, my roommate and I shout out two different answers. Him, “Fake”. Me, “Real”. And we just both stared at each other in sheer horror. And then got into a heated debate. Lmao. I mean, he made some pretty decent arguments. . . So, yeah, we are getting a fake tree this year and that makes me HORRIBLY sad. . .because this will be the very first Christmas I have ever spent without a real tree and the smell of pine flooding the house and to get to feel the texture of the branches when you walk by..... Sigh. Real. Christmas trees have to be fucking real. . .otherwise, what’s the point? :/

4. Favorite Christmas memory?

Oh my god, I have WAYYYYYYYYYYYY too many. I think it’s a tie between when I first got my N64 when it came out. . .along with the game Pokemon Stadium. And Echo’s first Christmas.

Memory 1: When you’re little, you get up REAAAAAAAAAAAAALLY early to open your presents on Christmas. Everyone in the neighbourhood did. And I had that kinda childhood where I was friends with all the kids in the neighbourhood within my age range and on Christmas, I was actually allowed to go out and see them and have them over and stuff. So after I opened my N64 and Pokemon Stadium, we literally had an open door policy. I say literally because the front doors and the back sliding glass doors leading out to the pool and patio were permanently pushed open. I ran around the neighbourhood gathering all my friends and we all came back to my house and got in my living room and there were four controllers and a handful of us so we took turns battling each other in Pokemon Stadium all morning. It was so much fun. Our parents got together, too, while we played and had wine and stuff and when we were done playing, our parents had us make cookies and ice/frost them and it was a lot of fun

Memory 2: Not as elaborate of a memory. . .Simple, but pure and good. Echo’s first Christmas. . .he saw snow for the first time. That’s when I got that picture of him as a puppy of him howling on the trampoline that got really up there in the notes on here (coz, y’know, he was the cutest pupper alive lol and that picture did his cuteness in his puppy ugly years justice). He was SO EXCITED by the snow but also so frightened. At first, he started barking at it. He would get close to it and bark at it and back up. Finally, he stuck his paw in it and SCREAMED and started running (I had his leash and harness on obvs) and the dummy ran straight into the snow. . .snow piles that were taller than him. So he was like. . .hopping like a bunny through the snow. You’d only see him and hear him when he hopped up in the air. Then he’d fall back into a snow pile. And he was screaming the whole time. (Pomeranians are VERY vocal and they will scream at anything that is new to them when they are young. I learned this via absolute horror and shock because he jumped off the couch when he was a pup for the first time and it wasn’t a big drop or anything just a small hop. . .and when he landed, he was perfectly fine, but nonetheless. . .his tail tucked between his legs, he started SCREAMING BLOODY MURDER, and skittered into my mom’s bedroom and squeezed under the bed. I thought he was fucking dying. Nope, turns out that’s just how all poms are. Lol.) I was running after him this whole time trying to get him to pick him up out of the snow but I kept falling in the snow, too, coz it was past my ankles and I don’t have any boots or pants equipped to handle that. I’m from fucking Florida! Lmao. Anyways, I eventually caught up with him and put him on my trampoline to dry him off a bit before taking him back inside to dry him off for real. And that’s when I snapped those two highly photogenic pictures of Echo on the trampoline during his puppy uglies. . .covered in snow. . .but cute af. He also learned that he quite enjoys sticking his snow into snow piles. . .moving it around a bit. . .pulling it out. . .and then immediately furiously digging/burrowing. Lol. ANYWAYS. . .I got him back inside. . .dried him off and everything. . .and since he was kinda wet, he did that dog thing where he skittered around the house as fast as he possibly could. . jumping on all the furniture, knocking things over, running in literal circles. . . When he FINALLY calmed down. . .I had him open his presents. I had wrapped them easily enough to where he could open them himself and I actually have a video of his first Christmas with him opening his presents somewhere but I can’t find it! D: But, anyways, he was SO GODDAMN CUTE opening all his presents!!!!!! He would just tug on the wrapping paper with his snout and put his little fluffy paws on it and push and tug simultaneously. . .and he would slowly rip the wrapping paper off while snorting. And it was the cutest fucking thing. I do this every Christmas for him. I wrap his presents very loosely and make sure to get him a cookie. This year, I’m gonna be getting him an Ugly Christmas Sweater, an LED Christmas Collar, a new year-round collar, a few new toys with squeakers, a special cookie like always, some of his favourite training treats from when he was a puppy in his favourite flavour, and a shiny new dog tag with his new address on it. :3 I’mma put his Christmas collar on with the lights blinking and put his ugly sweater on him before he goes to open his presents this year. And record that. Coz it’s the best sight. c: Our family member who is just a friend and doesn’t live with us works at Petco and he already confirmed they have ugly christmas sweaters in Echo’s size and they have the Christmas collars I’m thinking about. . .So I’m heading over there as soon as I get back and I’m taking Echo into the store and we’re gonna go searching for his presents and let him sniff out which toys he wants and stuff. c:

5. Favorite Christmas song?

Of all the traditional ones, Pachelbel Canon. That was actually one of the first two-handed piano pieces I successfully learned how to play in lessons when I was little. I always master Christmas songs quicker than anything else on any instrument because they’re my favourite. The newer ones are okay, I guess. They’ve really got to do it right. . .because writing Christmas music nowadays is just. . .Idk, it doesn’t really catch on. Coz we had that era. We had it. And now we listen to all those old songs even if we aren’t people who would normally seek out older songs (I’m definitely not that kind of person!). But, wow, I love all the traditional Christmas songs. I have my pandora on the Traditional Christmas station. Same with my spotify when I use it. And my Sirius XM radio stays on the channel that they convert to the Traditional Christmas channel for the month if dec

I think the only current group that has done Christmas music correctly in the modern music scene is Trans-Siberian Orchestra, tbh. And their Christmas music. . .all of it. . .actually should come in a tie for first with Pachelbel. Tbh.

6. Have you ever had a white Christmas?

Once. Literally once in my entire life. And it just so happened to be Echo’s first Christmas. I had dreamed of having a white Christmas since I was a little boy. Ofc, I never saw snow until I was like 13 or 14 for the very first time. So I had no idea what a white Christmas really entailed growing up coz I had never seen or felt snow before. But Echo’s first Christmas was the only white Christmas I’ve ever had. . .and it was the most beautiful day. I had such joy with my dog that day.

7. Favorite Christmas treat?

Holiday chocolates. Specifically, those orange-shaped chocolates that only come out during Christmas time that you have to slam against a hard surface to break them into slices. . .and when you open it, it looks like it’s been sliced and pulled apart like an orange. And it’s orange/citrus-infused chocolate. Which happens to be my fave. . .I got three of them as presents so far this year coz everyone knows I freak out when they’re in stores but didn’t have any money to buy them this year. They came out with a new flavour, too! So someone got me that one. Strawberry-infused chocolate. Still looked and sliced like an orange when slammed against a hard surface and broken. . .but it was delicious. And I’ve had two orange-infused ones. I still have a whole orange-infused one left, I can only eat like 1 slice at a time. Very rarely 2. So they last for a pretty long time with me. Lolol. I know there are other holiday chocolates. . .but I can’t think of them. Oh, ALSO, the candy-canes that are fruit flavoured. Specifically, the jolly rancher ones. Mmmmm! Stock up on those. Aw ye. Heh. :p

8. Do you have a favorite Christmas tree ornament?

I have way, way, WAY too many, omfg. I have so many favourite ornaments. And so many of them hold extreme sentimental value to me. There is legit no way possible that I could pick just one. Nope. No way. There’s no way I could pick like. . .just five or ten or something, either, tbh. Lol. There’s so many........ Although. . .if I absolutely HAD to choose. . .like, if there were a gun to Echo’s tiny little head and I had to choose to save his life. . .I would choose my Lady & The Tramp one.

9. Do you go Black Friday shopping?

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOT!!! Lmaaaoooo. Bruh. Never. Never in my goddamn life will I ever go Black Friday shopping. Absolutely not. A) Because I have worked too many black friday’s in retail. . .specifically in malls. . .and it is absolute hell and I have never been so stressed and past my limit at my jobs in different retail stores. And B) Because why the fuck would you go deal with all that bullshit. . .long-ass lines. . .People literally camping outside your store waiting for you to open so they can flood the store and destroy EVERYTHING. . .fighting. . .getting hurt. . .things breaking. . ..getting angry and upset. . .getting stressed past your limit trying to get to the items you want in time before everyone else does in this chaotic every-man-for-themselves race. . .Like, seriously? No thanks. Why the FUCK go to Black Friday when we have Cyber Monday???? It’s literally the same exact thing. . .just online. That;s it,

I’ve always kinda just judged people who go to Black Friday sales coz a) they’re causing the employees hell just by participating and b) where the fuck is the common sense in that when you can do it completely stress-free and from the comfort of your own bedroom or a coffee shop or wherever you want!

Cyber Monday is where it’s at, guys. Don’t cause employees that are forced to work Black Friday even more hell by participating in that chaos and fueling the fire. God forbid you accidentally take out your stress and rage on the cashier without even realizing it. Cannot even tell you how many times that happens on Black Friday. Can’t even tell you how many of us literally had to take 5 minute breaks every hour or so because of how psychologically/emotionally damaging it was. So.....yeah, no. Lol.

10. Favorite Christmas movie?

I actually can’t say I have one, tbh. Like. . .I don’t get super, super excited by any particular Christmas movie anymore. I used to get excited over almost all of them growing up. Especially the stop-motion ones because they were close to cartoons and I wasn’t allowed to watch cartoons growing up. They were banned in my household. But honestly. . .You could even pop in one of those fucking Hallmark Christmas movies where the plot is exactly the same for every single one of them and I will act surprised every time the plot turns out exactly the same as every other Hallmark movie. Lmmmaaoooo.

I can’t actually think of one in particular that stands out over the rest. I love them all. Some more than others, some not very much at all. But they all still qualify in the love category.

EVERYTHING Christmas is in the love category for me. FUCK.
