Quality Time
Sooo... Have you guys missed me? I’ve surely missed you! And I’m so sorry, that I’ve just disappeared from Tumblr once again. Life got in the way and will probably remain rather hectic for the foreseeable future - Gosh dang it! I’m amazed and in awe of all the Simblrs, that manage in keep a regular upload schedule. I struggle with finding time to play, edit screenshots and create posts, so - Hat off to you guys! I can’t promise, that I’ll do better - but I’ll try my best. Tbh, the post will probably stay rather sporadic the upcoming time, but at least I’ll manage to post now and again, XD
Let’s check back in with Callum and Patzy in SimMeapolis. Callum was busy working on his advancement in his career and Patzy was struggling with her mental wellbeing, when we left them.
Since Patzy has been in such a funk mentally lately, she’s been questioning almost everything about herself. What she wants to do in life, who she really is and so on. Callum has been noticing her inner struggle and decided, that they should spend some quality time as a couple to give her mind a little break. He therefore invited Patzy out for a date. Besides, a date was the perfect opportunity for Callum to show of his gaming-skills and maybe get some brownie-points for being cool. He let Patzy start and confidently gave her tips on how to score. Patzy smirked and played along, letting Callum show off.
It didn’t last long however. Patzy leaned over the table and swoosh... she send her weight down the board, hitting Callum’s and shuffling away - securing herself the win. Patzy laughed as Callum complained about beginners luck. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders and planted a kiss on his lips, grinning. Callum smiled back and returned the kiss. “Better luck next time Mr. Fullman” Patzy giggled, booping Callum’s nose with hers. “At least I’ve got luck in love” Callum answered and kissed her wholeheartedly.

So someone made this post I thought was really cool and I wanted to answer it the person who made the post goes by @buh-beep so please go give that post a like and follow them with all that said here are the questions
1. What is the oldest doll you own?
Probably my Beautiful Crissy doll from 1968 although that may not be the date for that exact doll she is pretty old. She was made by the company ideal.
2. What is the doll you got most recently?
My Bratz Collecters Yasmin from 2018 by MGA. When I lived with my mom she bought her for me I think she gave me a card and we got it. I don't have her or any of these dolls anymore since I don't live with my mother for personal reasons.
3. Favorite Type of Doll?
Hands down Bratz. They have been my absolute fave since I was a little girl and i still love them their fashion, makeup just everything really is iconic and I really believe that they might have the same impact as Barbie once I get older. Now if we talk about favorite lines? That will have to be for another time.
4. Least Favorite Type of Doll?
Pinkie Cooper. It's cute I had one but I was just not interested in the dolls sadly I definitely think it was an interesting idea though and its probably perfect for some people I just never knew where she would fit in with my other dolls. Also when I saw my cousin and his ex they had stuff for me and for some reason I could only take two things home and my mom sorta had me take her home when I could have had a Hannah Montana doll so rip :p
5. How many dolls do you own?
Zero now rip but honestly idk. I had mostly Bratz and sorta collected but now I might genuinely try to collect them.
6. What is a doll you had and wish you still did?
Tan Bratz Passion 4 Fashion Cloe. I still really wish I kept her but I was going through this dumb phase where I just stopped caring about my dolls and we had this science project in school and I did mine on hair dye and dyed her hair using some fruit or something and gave her away. If anyone knows where I can get her (hopefully for cheap) please tell me I really loved her she was also one of my friends absolute favorites.
7. What does your wish list look like?
A lotta Bratz mostly but that would be a very long list so to save you the details two of the series I want are the Tokyo a Gogo dolls, Formal Funk and Flashback Fever.
8. Prettiest Doll you Own?
Honestly have no clue all of them are gorgeous but I think one of my prettiest is definitely Rock Angelz Sasha I would love to own more Sasha dolls shes so gorgeous.
9. Ugliest Doll you own but love anyways?
I don't think I own any ugly ones really just ones that had messed up hair so I don't really have anything to add here. Actually hmm maybe my first edition Cameron and Dylan Bratz dolls they are still cool though.
10. Cutest Doll you own?
Either my Barbie Peek a Boos or my Mindy Mint Chocolate Chip Yummyland doll. I love Bratz but I really wish I saw more cutesy but fashionable dolls I believe they should bring back Yummyland dolls they smell so dang good and because kids love slim maybe they could add a small bottle (in a shape of a drink) that smells nice too? Idk lol.
11. Biggest Doll you own?
A Barbie doll that is I believe 28" in size after that I would say my Beautiful Crissy Doll and than my Yummyland doll.
12. Smallest doll you own?
All of my Barbie Peekaboos and Polly Pockets. Since Polly came back I think Mattel has the perfect chance to bring back Barbie Peek a Boos. They are pretty small so I kept them in a basket I am used to the size of Bratz I find them easier to hold over Barbie Peek a Boos or Polly's.
13. What doll in your collection is worth most?
Hmm probably Beautiful Crissy tbh I wanted her because when i was in grade 8 i watched these old vintage commercials on YouTube and i saw her and i just thought she was one of the most gorgeous dolls. I don't have her now because again shes at my moms but I don't think I could sell her shes just really cute and I think dolls from that time and older are special and tell a story and show a different time.
14. Doll you will never buy and why?
Lamilly and American Girls. I know these dolls especially American Girls are very popular for a lot of people but I am not really into dolls that are supposed to be like me I like fashion dolls mostly or really cutesy dolls. I think American Dolls are pretty iconic in their own way but I just can't see me owning one and for Lamilly same deal I feel like its trying to put down other dolls and make Lamilly seem superior and I just don't dig it. I don't like Barbie's a whole lot but I dislike like Lamilly I think it's a good message but it just feels meh? Idk other dolls I will never own are Blythe's I have this thing with dolls with eyes like that and I think it would probably spook me a bit.
15. Strangest doll you own?
Pinkie Cooper hands down. Again she just doesn't fit anywhere and shes so odd and really stands out from the others not that that's always a bad thing but as someone who is mostly into Bratz, Monster High and Ever After High she just doesn't go anywhere although she would probably fit in maybe with the EAH dolls. Another is probably the big Barbie like I didn't want her I just got her as a Christmas present one year and yeah that's that.
16. Biggest Doll Related Regret?
Giving away that Cloe doll I will always regret that also almost wanting to sell my Bratz and not bringing my dolls with me when I left my moms and went to my dads. Also I just wanna say my dad is the coolest and one day we had a nice convo about toys and stuff it was pretty rad.
17. What's the most important aspect of a doll in your opinion?
I just want to say I absolutely love this question this is the main reason why I wanted to make this post. I believe the most important aspect is if the owner finds joy in that doll because if you don't we wouldn't have so many people collecting dolls and dolls wouldn't be sold. I think dolls are very important and can build up good skills. Another important aspect is if you can pose the doll and depending on if it's a fashion dolls is if it has good clothes and good fabric all of these are so important but as long as people find joy that's the most important.
18. What's your doll related pet peeve
People are gonna hate this and I apologize but I find it difficult to watch or look at people changing the dolls like not in clothes changing but repaints it's cool and some of them are absolutely gorgeous but sometimes I have a bit of a pet peeve of them mostly because I am so worried that I will never find those dolls because people use them and repaint them. Their aren't many Bratz repaints though so I don't get bothered too much and when they do repaints they make the faces so pretty and I would love for MGA to use some of the screenings some of these people use because they look so good.
19. When did you start collecting dolls?
This might be an odd opinion but I think that anyone can be a doll collector even if they don't mean to be like for me I don't call myself a doll collector but I sorta am? Even though I never meant to be but now I do want to collect but it started with Bratz when I was young but now I want to take it a bit more seriously.
20. Have any doll related stories?
Well I never first fought anyone I was way too young lol but I do have two good stories number 1 is on Christmas a few years back my grandparents before they both passed bought me a Holiday Yasmin doll from 2007 don't know how they found it but they did and I loved that doll but again at my moms rip another one is one Christmas I got two of the same Bratz Cade dolls and for the longest time I thought it was Dylan because the doll looked exactly like Dylan does in the movies and shows lol! I might go into more stories on my dolls because there are a few that I really like.
With all of these questions answered I will once again ask people who see this to go like and follow @buh-beep who made the original post. This was intended for doll collectors I believe personally I don't call myself a collector but as someone who loves dolls I thought this would be fun and it really was if anyone wants to this I suggest it. Its really fun and I like sharing this stuff with you guys.
☆With all that said I hope you liked this post. Please give me a follow i post a lot of stuff like this☆

𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘦: tbh i’ve been in a huge writing funk lately the kind where i wanna write but can’t get myself to, so i found one of my old writings from like 5 years ago and figured why not edit and update it and tbh this is what became of it. there’s a part two that’s half written, so if it’s wanted i can totally finish it. otherwise, sorry if my writing is horrendous :-)
Some dead guy once said ‘You can’t go home again’ but the dude was full of complete shit. You can, but a lot of the smart people who don’t, decide not to because of the many lists of reasons they hold.
Josh Anderson considered himself to be one of those people. After he graduated secondary school and went off into the OHL, he swore up and down that he would never return to his self-deemed, small hometown. And the moment he made it into the NHL two years later, he kept that promise. Though when his parents asked to see him, he couldn't turn them down. It's the least he could do for all that they had done for him throughout his life. Without them and their sacrifices, he knows that he wouldn't be living his childhood dream. So he'd go to visit them, but not too often it seemed.
He wanted to embrace the life the NHL could give him. Explore the ever-winding paths out in front of him and mingle amongst the interesting people along the way. Wander down those paths for so long, that Burlington would look like nothing more than a speck in his back windshield. Yet, there he was driving down the same never-ending road leading to the old hangout he and a few of his buddies had declared as theirs during the middle of grade 9. If it were up to him though, he wouldn't be driving down this potholed road and he sure wouldn't as hell be back here in Burlington.
It's not like he's here voluntarily. It seemed as if his phone wasn't capable of being silent as the calls from his childhood buddies came in all at once. Each rambling on and on about the same fancy invitation with their class crest and school colors splashed over the front, informing then that it's been 10 years since their graduation and that it was time to "re-kindle those lost valuable friendships with some of your fellow peers and have a grand ole time at the class of 2012's class reunion." No shit, those are the exact cheesy words written by the old class president who had the unflattering privilege of being called 'Kiss-ass McGhee.'
He had NO intentions of attending this class reunion with a bunch of people he grew up with his entire life and came to hate about 60% of them throughout his years of primary and secondary school, but his best friends sure were some persuasive assholes. Secondary school wasn't really the best time of his life. Besides having an intense focus on hockey, all the underlying partying and stupid shit he did on the sidelines from grades 9 through 11, there were a few speculations whether or not he'd graduate, let alone make a name for himself. But with the help of some pretty good people, his partying cutback, his hockey stats severely improved along with his grades and he ended up graduating at the top of his class. That doesn't matter though– it hasn't mattered in 10 years. All that matters is that he doesn't find being in a room with a bunch of people in 10 years, with a good majority of them probably deciding to stay in this misery of a place while he made a new life and a name for himself across country lines and in a state nearly 400 miles away...a "grand ole time".
Sorry Kiss-Ass McGhee, but he's having no part of it
He parked his new range rover up into a parking spot right in front of the diner and got out. The warm rays from the sun hitting his face only made him want to jump right back into the AC and drive away. It was really only a 6-hour car ride back to Columbus and while 12 hours in a day wasn't exactly appealing...it was a whole lot better than what his night seemed to have planned ahead of him. Instead, he closed the door and locked it behind him, walking to the door of the diner and inside. It smelled and looked exactly as he had remembered it did back when he was here for the last time, exactly 10 years ago the night before he turned his back on this town and never looked back.
"Ho-ly Shit, well would you look at that boys. He did show up." Josh turned towards a corner booth and smiled, seeing the aged faces of his best friends. "You owe me 30 bucks, Nick." His best friend and the guy he practically considered to be his brother, Dillon said, walking over to him with open arms.
"Hey, Dillhole," he laughed, wrapping his arms tight around him.
"It's good to see you, Josh." He pulled away and motioned over towards the booth they had reserved.
He slid in on one side and Dillon slid in on the opposite side. It was crazy, seeing all five of them together again; Nick, Dillon, Archer, Colt and himself. They were the boys that caused the entire ruckus in this town, both on and off the ice. And while they weren't all the hometown heroes, they were pretty much the light of the town. "This is fucking crazy," Josh said, shaking his head.
"Watch that mouth young man," a familiar voice nagged.
He snapped his head up and instantly smiled. "Mrs. O'Donnell!" He got up and hugged her, only to pull away and place his hands on her shoulders. "How are you?"
"Oh, I'm just fine," She smiled, letting out a sigh as he sat back down in the booth, and she began collecting the menus off of the table. "It's just been a long time since I've seen you boys all together in this booth. I was starting to think I was going a little crazy there. Is it the usual five double cheeseburgers and two baskets of chili fries with five chocolate malt shakes?"
"Mrs. O'Donnell, how do you remember that after all these years?" Archer laughed, his eyes wide in shock.
"You boys have been ordering the same thing since you were 7-years-old," She just sighed and added a light chuckle. "Plus, it's pretty noticeable when I no longer have to order ahead 3-times the number of patties every shipment. I'll be back soon boys."
"Does Mr. O'Donnell still work the grill? He made the best burgers," Colt said, folding his napkin repeatedly.
"I believe so," Archer replied, his eyes squinting as he looked towards the back of the diner. "I think their oldest is taking over the business soon, though. Mr. and the Mrs. want to travel around the country in that old RV they got."
Archer was the only one out of the five of them who stayed behind in Burlington. Dillon had moved somewhere over in Vancouver, Nick over in Buffalo, New York, Colt down somewhere in Florida, and Josh was more than content in his quaint house he'd bought down in Columbus, a little over 15 minutes away from the Arena.
"So how have you guys been? How is everything?" Dillon asked, his eyes meeting everyone who was sitting at the booth.
They all kept in contact, sure, but they didn't talk all the time. There was a group chat of course, but the probability of them all being active in it at the same time was incredibly rare. It's been hard seeing as how busy they all got as they went their separate paths whether that be to the next level of hockey, college or even straight to a 9 to 5 job. They still made it work as best as they could, seeing as the last time they were all together was Colt's wedding in December.
"You guys remember that girl I met during that grad trip in grade 12?" Nick asked, as Mrs. O'Donnell came by and dropped off each of their milkshakes.
"The blonde one with the big–" Dillon looked over at Mrs. O'Donnell who was sending him her classic 'don't you dare say what you're going to say' looks. "Uh, personality?" He smiled as Mrs. O'Donnell turned away, but motioned at his chest as if he were cupping a pair of impressive sized, invisible boobs. Which soon followed by a smack in the back of the head with a napkin by Mrs. O'Donnell, sending the table of men into a fit of laughter.
"Yeah, Shelly!" Nick nodded, leaning back into his seat. "Well, a few years after that, I ran into her on campus and we started dating and well...I just proposed to her a few days ago."
"What?!" Josh smiled, taking a sip of his malt shake as he tried to hide his surprise. "That's awesome man, congratulations."
Nick smiled and accepted the pats on the shoulders and congratulations the rest of the guys had given him. "What about you guys? Any ladies in your lives?"
"I'm dating this girl who was in one of my classes back in college. We didn't know of each other, but we started dating at the academy and now we work at the same station but–" Archer looked around and leaned over the table. "You guys know how fast news spreads around here, so that's why I'm whispering. Her name is Julianne and I'm actually proposing to her next week."
Josh almost choked on the swig of malt shake that made it way down his throat as his eyes widened. That's three of five who were either married and or engaged, and there he was still incredibly single. Another round of congratulations went around the table and eyes landed on Dillon as they waited for a life update. Josh knew Dillon better than anybody, so he definitely knew that the slight twitch in his right eye meant he was hiding something.
"Let me guess," he snorted, taking another sip of his shake. "You're getting married too?" A deep read started to spread across his face as he looked into his malt shake. "DUDE!" Josh yelled, crumpling up a napkin and firing it at Dillon's head.
"It just happened two days ago man," Dillon said, holding his hands up in defense. "I'm still letting it all sink in.”
“Who?”
Josh had to admit he was curious himself. While they didn’t talk every second of every day, he thought that he’d at least be up to date in huge events such as engagements, in Dillon’s life. “Yeah Dillhole, who?”
He rubbed the back of his neck and smiled. “Uh…Amy Hough.”
For the second time that day, the group of men erupted into a bunch of hollers that sounded like a pack of wild dogs. They couldn't help it though for one reason, and one reason only. Amy Hough had been Dillon's girlfriend since well...forever. From grade 1 all the way to grade 12, it was as if those two were made for each other. Everyone thought they were going to follow each other to college, get married after graduation and become that cliché couple you see on lifetime romance movies. But they called it quits the day before the big grade 12 grad trip and went their separate ways.
“Guys! Guys shut up!” He laughed, begging the group to quiet down as the red from his face began to travel down his neck. As soon as they did, he smiled again. “After we got the invitations to the reunion she uh, called me and asked if we could get together the next time I was in town, which happened to be that weekend and…we just kind of picked back up where we started.”
“We got those invitations eight months ago and you’re just now telling us, bro?” Archer asked, throwing his napkin at him.
“Sorry sorry!” He said as he did his best to dodge the napkins. “What about Josh?!”
Everyone turned their eyes to Josh. “Yeah Josh, what about you? You got a lady in your life?” Colt asked.
“Yeah, as much as a big shot you are down in Columbus, you’ve got to have at least a few ladies lusting after you,” Nick laughed, wiggling his eyebrows. “Maybe multiple at a time, eh?”
Josh could feel the heat begin to rise in his cheeks and he silently prayed for it to go away. Sure, he had women lusting after him, as Nick had put it. Tons, in fact. But that came with the territory of being a professional athlete. He could barely enjoy the clubs with his teammates without the women around him doing whatever they could to catch his eye. Was it flattering? Sure. Did he cave into it? Of course, he did, especially when he was in his earlier to mid-twenties. He was a guy, after all. But lately, the hookups seemed to slow down, even if the selection of women at his beck and call only seemed to rise. Sleeping around or even having a regular hook-up in whatever city they’d be playing in just didn’t seem appealing anymore.
He swallowed the lump in his throat and shook his head. “Actually no, I don’t. I haven’t really thought about dating, to be honest.” He pursed his lips and brought his straw to his mouth as he met their shocked gazes.
“What?” Archer asked.
“You’re shitting us right?” Colt added, looking just as surprised as the rest of them. “I mean, not even the occasional club hookup? Nothing?”
Josh just shrugged his shoulders and swallowed his sip of shake. “Just busy I guess. Haven’t really thought of dating much…doesn’t really feel right.” Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Dillon seemingly glaring at him as he struck the thinker pose. “What’s wrong with you?”
“Oh nothing, I’m fine. It’s just that I think the lack of hookups and the reason that you’re not dating anyone right now is that deep down you’re still stuck up on Y/N.”
Josh could feel the heat start to rise again and this time, he couldn’t hold it back. But he did his damnedest to withhold any sign of emotion from them as best as he could. Hearing your name spoken by anyone but his inner voice for the first time in nine years hurt more than he could describe. “What? Pft, no I’m not.”
“She’s here in town you know…” Archer said, looking at him. “Just saw her leaving her parents place the other day.”
You and Archer were neighbors, but not until grade 6. Up until then, Josh had the utmost privilege of being your neighbor and best friend. Then the whole moving and ‘who you hang out with could affect you for the rest of your life’ junior high bullshit happened and he didn’t see you again until grade 9. Josh still hated himself for the way he ignored you all those years based on the fact that you weren’t really the most popular girl in junior high and he knew that he was an ass for it.
End of story.
“O-Oh….she is?” Josh asked, looking away from his friends.
“Which means she’s going to be at the reunion tonight…” Dillon added, looking at him. “Are you going to say hi?”
The last moment that Josh had with you started playing in front of him like a black and white movie that was moving way too fast for him to really capture the details. He had spent the last 10 years pushing back everything that he knew about you in the back of his mind. He didn’t want it coming back, ever. “Yeah, why wouldn’t I?”
Fuck, he knew that was a lie. He should have just kept his mouth shut.
“I bet you $15 you chicken out and run away like a little girl.” Dillon smiled, leaning over and extending his hand towards him.
Josh looked Dillon in the eyes and knew that Dillon was reading him like a God damn book right now. He knew exactly how Josh felt towards you, and yet Josh couldn’t bring himself to say no. He shook his hand and held his stare. “Deal.”
“Here you are, boys. Five double cheeseburgers and two chili fries. I’ll be back by later to check up on you.” Mrs. O’Donnell turned to walk away but turned back around. “And now that you’re grown men, I expect less of a mess from ya.”
They all laughed and focused back on their food as the conversations drifted from their love lives and more into sports and recent stuff on the news. But as Josh took that first bite into his burger, he looked to his left and stared at a familiar old, empty red single booth. Only back then, it wasn’t always empty. It always had someone sitting in it.
You and him.
“Alright fellas, I guess it’s about time we head out towards the good ole reunion,” Archer said as he grabbed the bill before any of them could reach it. He took out a bunch of bills and put them inside of the check, closing it.
“Can you believe Kiss-Ass McGhee wrote that? How fucking cheesy can you get?” Dillon laughed, scooting out of the booth.
The men said their goodbyes to Mr. and Mrs. O’Donnell and left the diner, standing around a bit before they stood by their separate cars. “Where’s this thing at again?” Josh asked, digging his car keys out of his jean pocket. “Please don’t say it’s in the gym.”
“Yeah, tell me McGhee didn’t go all ancient times and at least got us a sweet hotel,” Colt added.
“Sorry fellas, but it’s in the gym.” Archer laughed, opening his car door. “You guys still know the way to the school?”
“You mean the hell hole?” Dillon asked, getting into his car and leaning out the window. “Yeah, I think I’m familiar with the route.”
Josh shook his head and laughed as he watched his friends get into their cars. “Alright, meet you guys there!” Archer called out, starting his car and backing out of his parking spot before turning out of the lot and left to go further into town.
Josh got into his car and started it, watching his friends each leave the parking lot before him. He closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths, feeling his grip on his steering wheel get a bit tighter as he sucked in another deep breath.
He can do this. It won’t be that bad, maybe you won’t even remember him. Maybe you wouldn’t even say hi, yeah, yeah that sounds plausible. He’s totally got this.
He let out the breath he was holding and opened his eyes, putting his car into reverse and backing out of his spot before turning left onto the road and followed it into town. Tonight was going to be a total shit show and no matter how many motivational talks he gave himself, there was no way of preventing it. The closer he got to the high school, the more nauseous he became. It’s been 10 years since he’s seen you and the possibility of seeing you now drove him absolutely, fucking crazy. Tons and thousands of possibilities and worst-case scenarios filled his brain.
Would you recognize him? Would he recognize you? Would things be the same when you see each other? Will all of those memories that he spent 10 years pushing away come back up and replay the entire night? Would his feelings come back? Would yours?
A sudden knock on his window brought him out of his thoughts. He looked to his left to see Dillon standing there. “Come on dude!” He wasn’t even aware that he had parked his car…or that he had even arrived at the high school.
He took another deep breath and turned off the ignition, unbuckled his seatbelt and got out of the car. “Sorry, I was just…thinking.”
“About Y/N?”
He nodded slowly. “I just–“ He locked his car and dug his hands into his pockets as far as they could go. “It’s been 10 years since I’ve seen or talked to her Dill. We haven’t kept in contact or even bothered to keep in contact. Plus, I’ve pretty sure that one we see each other, she’ll probably run in the opposite direction.”
Dillon shrugged his shoulders and looked at him. “You don’t know that bro. Maybe what happened to Amy and me, will happen to you and Y/N.”
“I highly doubt that Dill.” He replied, walking into the school gym with him and coming to a stop at a table with the rest of the boys, searching for their nametags and putting them on their shirts. “You must have forgotten just how badly things ended with us. I don’t think they’ll just pick right back up and she’ll act like none of it ever happened.”
“Hey, you never know Josh! It’s been 10 years and during those 10 years, both of you grew up and matured. You’re both 28 for God sakes. I’m sure you’re not going to let the way you handled things when you were 18, get in the way of how you deal with things at 28.” He walked into the gym, leading the way as Josh followed behind him. “Besides, maybe she wants to reconnect and maybe, just maybe you two will hit it off again.”
“Hey, you two.” A voice said, causing the two of them to turn around. The girl walked over to Dillon and kissed him before looking at Josh. “Josh Anderson, is that you?” She wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tightly. “It’s been years! How have you been? How’s the NHL? Everything you ever dreamed of?”
“Everything and more,” Josh laughed, pulling away with a smile on his face. “It’s nice to see you too Amy and congratulations on the engagement! You better keep this boy in line.”
Amy looped her arm through Dillon’s and looked up at him. “Oh I will, you can count on that.” She looked at Josh and the expression on her face resembled that of shock as if she had just realized something and hadn’t told him. “Have you two talked to Y/N yet?”
“We just got here. She’s here already?” Dillon asked, looking around the crowd.
“Yeah! Here hold on, I’ll go get her!” She smiled, winking at Josh before turning away and disappearing into the crowd of classmates.
“Amy wait!” Josh called out, realizing that he was about five steps too late before she was out of his vision. He looked around to see if he could spot her anywhere, but he was shit out of luck.
Dillon put his hand on his shoulder. “Remember…$15.” Josh just groaned, earning an honest laugh from Dillon. “You’ve got this man, remember…anything can happen.”
As he looked up from his feet, Josh could see Amy begin to make her way back through the crowd, looking behind her. He turned quickly, facing Dillon with a look of panic on his face. “I can’t do this man. I shouldn’t have let you guys talk me into coming to this stupid thing. This was a huge mistake coming here.” He could feel his heart start to race and his palms get clammy.
The last time he had ever been this nervous was during playoff runs and game 7 of the year they won the Stanley Cup. Well, all of those times and the times he’d ever been around you. Nerves and adrenaline during hockey games were one thing, but the nerves he’d get around you were those same ones, escalated a million times over again. But it’s been so long since he had to deal with that level of nerves, so as far as he was concerned, he was so far out of his league.
One thing was for sure; he had to get the hell out of here.
“Josh man, come on don’t leave.”
“You’re leaving already?” A voice said, stopping Josh in his tracks, as well as making his heart skip a beat. He turned back around and as soon as his eyes met yours, his mouth went dry and it was as if every English word he’d ever learned– had disappeared and he couldn’t speak. After a few moments of a failed response, you tucked a loose strand of hair behind your ear and smiled. “Hi, Josh.”
“H-Hey Y/N.”

9, 11, 13, 17, 20, and 30! Soft asks are so lovely, I want to ask all of them haha! How’s the working from home going?
they are so lovely!! i only want to talk about soft things forever and ever.
9. a smell that reminds me of home
so like, ‘new jersey/the east coast’ home - grilled cheese. and also the beach! and also, just the smell of my parents’ house that i don’t know how to describe, but the last time i was unpacking my suitcase after a weekend there, i opened it and it smacked me in the face so hard, i had to sit down.
‘the midwest/my current home’ home - probably coffee, tbh. my coffee game ... skyrocketed when i moved here!!
11. the memory of the last time i felt true happiness
sunday night was my first night in my new apartment, and it was blissful. i wasn’t fully unpacked yet (and i’m still not), but i got my mattress set up and got out my favorite plug-in and swiffered my bedroom floor, so it smelled clean. and i put on a huge sweatshirt, and laid back on a set of new pillows (new pillows, y’all - if you’re in a funk, get new pillows). and i was an arm’s length from my windowsill where i had the blinds cracked, so i could see a tiny sliver of the view of my street. and i lit a candle!! and put on love is blind. and my cat (who had been screaming all day bc she hates change) finally calmed down and curled up next to my head. and i was literally grinning and doing that squirmy thing that people do when they’re so comfortable, that they can’t even sit still. ugh. it was everything.
13. ideal summer aesthetic
not too hot and not too bright. a constant breeze. a casual patio brunch or outdoor brewery hangout. honestly, summer is not my favorite time of year, and i don’t quite know how to enjoy it, so my ideal aesthetic is just being around people i love, who can help me stay out of my usual summer slump!
17. something i own that’s important and why
i don’t own a lot of things tbh! i try not to collect a ton of stuff, and i just moved, so i downsized quite a bit, and it felt so good. but one thing i do have (’own’ isn’t really the right word) is the handwritten manuscript of my grandfather’s autobiography. he doesn’t own a computer or have internet, so he wrote his life story by hand and gave it to me to edit/type. i had it printed and ‘published’ for him for christmas last year, so i have the official bound & edited version, too, but the handwritten one is very special :’)
20. the sweetest thing someone has done for me
my best friend made me a scrapbook full of quotes/pictures/clippings of notes we passed in high school/etc. and she sent it to me when we were in college, after i went through something not super great with my family. the pages are so full that it doesn’t shut all the way. i still remember crying on my living room floor when i first got it, and it’s still the most thoughtful gift i’ve ever gotten. (and i guess that’s something else i own that’s important to me!)
-
also, you are sweet for asking about the working from home! so far, so good. i work at a really small company and we are all local to the area, so luckily i’m not dealing with a ton of jumbled communication. we had our first ‘all-hands conference call’ today, and it was about as chaotic as you’d expect a conference call with 15 people to be lol. but i’m pretty close with the people i have to deal with most frequently, so it’s been very easy!
(ask me again in a week though lmao. i hope you’re staying safe/sane 💓)

TOP 3 GALA 5
Here is last week’s top 3!
Why I even watch this show... if it makes me suffer so much???
Anyways, let’s start with the honorable mention, the less I think about the gala the better:
Sabor de Amor - OT 2020: Yeah, I’m also shocked. But this was the first group song of this edition I thoroughly enjoyed (which says a lot if the first genuinely 100% good group song is in week 5). But yeah, I already loved this song, and they made it really fun and cute!
Qué Sabrá Neruda - Javy: This is my number 4 of the gala, really close to number 3. This was the first time a nominee could sing their own song in the gala, and it was so emotional. He released this song last friday, and I have already listened to it around 20-30 times no joke, it’s so good. Here is the full version of the song, they had to edit it for the gala so it didn’t exceed the required duration (also please, if you like it, listen to it on Spotify or other streaming services, not in YouTube, cause then the benefits would go to Javy and not the program!). I also made a post about the song with the translated lyrics! Anyways, he was expelled, but I’m sure he’s gonna be big and that everything is gonna turn out great for him :)
Perfect Day - Flavio and Maialen: Yeah, it wasn’t the most exciting song but idk I liked it. I myself have thought Flavio has been saved from being nominated while doing really meh performances (tbh only “Copenhague” comes to mind right now) but, honestly, I don’t think he deserved this nomination, especially not after seeing how down and lost he looks now :(
3. LA SANDUNGUERA - ANAJU:
youtube
Here is the original song, by Nathy Peluso :)
Talk about versatility. This girl, last week was singing a Rocío Durcal ranchera, and look at her in this gala. Like wow. Honestly, when I heard the song she was gonna sing, I was a bit unsure, but after seeing her first mic pass, I was 100% on board. She was so amazing, a true queen honestly. With this performance, she is officially my top 3 favourite contestant of the edition, after Anne and Gèrard. Even though she was really solid here, I prefered her first mic pass.
2. PROMETO - GÈRARD
youtube
This is the original song, by Pablo Alborán :)
Like, how did they combine Pablo Alborán and Gèrard and not expect me to love the shit out of this performance?? And during the week I didn’t see it as strong, in fact, as per Saturday, my top 3 were the two nominees plus my number one, but what he did at the gala... for me it was finalist material, and, given that my number one spot this gala (and everyone’s) did that, I think people don’t credit this performance as much, but it was amazing. And I know he could’ve emote more, but given his evolution throughout the week (in the first mic pass he didn’t emote at all and look how far he got in just one week) and his personality, which I identify a lot with (I’m basically a combination of Gèrard and Flavio personality wise), I think he’s done an amazing job and he’s accomplished a lot this week.
1. RUN THE WORLD (GIRLS) - NIA
youtube
Here is the original song, by Beyoncé :)
For every edition of OT, there’s always a performance in the middle of the contest that makes one of the contestants the winner of each edition, with no acceptable discussion. In OT 2017 it was Amaia’s Shake It Out, in OT 2018 it was Famous’s Uptown Funk, and in OT 2020 is, undoubtedly, this one. Nia is gonna be the winner, for sure, and she deserves it 100%. I won’t accept any other winner of the edition after this performance, it was just... well, you’ve seen it. Brutal. Like, other-worldly. The thing is, in the first mic pass it was already perfect, but she cried after doing the song because she thought she isn’t doing it correctly. All week she was the first to rise and the last to get to bed, practising over and over and over and over... and here is the result. Queen Nia, nothing more to say. Of course, she was the favourite of the night, needless to say.
This week is gonna be tough with three nominees that I love and don’t want any of them to leave the contest so soon: Anne, Flavio and Bruno. I’ll be voting Anne cause she’s my number one favourite but yes, this week is gonna be really hard :(

what’s a point break?
pairing: thor odinson x reader ( platonic )
word count: 3.1k
summary: y/n is one of tony stark and pepper potts’s assistants, having been a behind the scenes liason between pepper & stark industries. after the events of infinity war, y/n has taken on a bigger role at the compound, and one day finds thor watching the newscast again. a little educational movie night ensues, showing thor the film point break (1991).
notes: set post infinity war and pre endgame, but there are mentions of events in endgame. sooo, basically, point break is probably one of my favorite movies of all time and this is kind of a self indulgent thing ( an excuse to rewatch the film for the millionth time ). i spent a lot of time with this, writing dialogue in between the movie and pausing things to get something down even if I wasn’t going to have them talk during the movie. i probably watched this movie in about four hours and its a two hour long movie. also, i haven’t written for the mcu before, or for thor, so i hope i did it justice. i was really nervous about writing this tbh.
warnings & possible triggers: i tried not to spoil the entire film point break for those of you who haven’t seen it, but it’s kind of impossible when writing a fic like this to not let some spoilers go. triggers include mentions of things in the film. i tried to avoid the more major stuff in the film.
marvel tag list: n/a
The compound was always quiet now.
Before, it had been filled with life. Laughter. General sounds as people pattered through the hallway. Someone had almost always been in the kitchen, cooking for the group. Even Y/N had felt welcomed, from the moment she arrived. She’d expected her move from Stark Industries to the Avengers Compound to be a bit more of a hassle than it was. She’d expected much more paperwork than she’d been given. She was moving from working as Miss Potts’s personal assistant to a liaison between both the Avengers team and Miss Potts. From her arrival, Y/N felt welcomed wherever she’d gone in the halls. She felt like a part of the family.
Now the hallways were always empty, somber. It had been two and a half weeks since the battle in Wakanda. There was no laughter heard in the compound. In fact, Y/N barely heard any sounds. People were keeping to themselves, or their offices, for the most part. Everyone was still processing what happened, the general tone of the compound was like walking through a funeral hall. All the time. Almost like you needed to be quiet.
When Y/N walked through the halls with her files held against her chest, it was almost like there were ghosts walking there with her. With those murals and electronic portraits hung wherever people could see them, she felt like she was being watched by those who they had lost. Even the happier pictures that had been hung with care over the years of working and living in the compound held a sadness that she couldn’t explain in their frames.
Everyone thought Tony was dead, there was no reason to believe he could be alive. They hadn’t heard from him since he had left in the spaceship with Spiderman and Dr. Strange. But, there had been much communication between those left alive, the ones who they could find. Clint, for example, had dropped off the map by the time everyone had arrived home at the compound and they were working on tracking him down.
A constant line to Wakanda was left open, just in case. News stations were left muted in the background. Someone had managed to get FRIDAY to give news alerts if something happened they needed to be aware of.
People were losing the hope that they had. It seemed as though everyone was walking around with their head downcast, afraid to make eye contact, or see what was in front of them, or maybe just afraid. The death toll was still rising every day, from all the accidents that the snap had caused.
Y/N had mostly been doing busy work, making sure that both the Avengers and Stark Industries had press releases ready for anything that could happen. Her job was to edit them and send them to Pepper and the Avengers for approval. For now, it was solely falling to Pepper’s shoulders.
She’d just left Pepper’s office in the compound and made her way to the kitchen, getting some food. It was sparse in the kitchen, and Y/N made a note in the back of her mind for when things cooled down to send someone out ( or even simply let FRIDAY know about the grocery list ). A bottle of beer in one hand and a bag of chips in the other, Y/N was making her way back towards her bedroom when she caught the sight of Thor in the common room.
He was slumped on the couch, dressed as casually as she’d ever seen him before. It seemed as though the God of Thunder’s new look wasn’t his Asgardian war clothes, but sweatpants, a t-shirt, and zip up hoodie as well. His eyes were glazed over as he watched yet another news reel.
Y/N didn’t want to disturb him, she’d been friendly with him before but she didn’t know him well enough. And she didn’t want to startle him. It felt like most people were easy to startle these days, so she stood in the corner for a couple of moments, watching him watch the TV.
“I can hear you breathing.” The God commented in his deep voice, barely turning his head to look in her direction. But he had turned it enough to see who it was standing in the corner of the room.
Bashfully, Y/N ducked her head down and moved toward the couch, taking a seat in the farther corner from him. She sat in the corner, half propped up to face Thor and half facing the television. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to stare. What are you watching?” She asked the question, even though it was obvious what he was doing. The news was quiet, but she’d caught the familiar telephone number on the bottom of the screen--a hotline to call for more information. She could hear the familiar newscaster’s commentary, probably reading from the teleprompter or his notes. Thor had bags of junk food around him, some opened or half opened or crumpled up, and he looked disheveled.
“Some news report. The casualty toll, they’re talking about it again. Another fallen aircraft was found.”
“Thor, we shouldn’t be watching this all the time.” She reached over gently to grab the remote control sitting on the couch when he grabbed her hand. Forceful was his tug on her wrist, but not to cause pain. It simply shocked her.
“We should be doing something about this.” Thor’s eyes are darker than she’s ever seen them before. They’re usually so blue and now they look almost black, overtaken by anger and grief.
“We are.”
“We should be doing more!” he shouted, hand falling on the couch beside him with a reverberating thump. Some of the bags beside him fell, leaving a spillage of pretzels and chips on the floor. “I should have stopped this.”
“You tried,” her voice is soft as she flips her hand over to hold onto Thor’s instead of being held onto by him. He flinched away from her touch, but turned his gaze to really look at her. His eyes were like storms brewing before her. “You all tried. And you’ll be there to try again.” She wasn’t sure how she was still so positive. Did she really believe that there would be something else to come? That there would be another battle to fight? Maybe she did. She worked with Tony Stark, and if that taught her anything it was that it was all possible.
“There is no again, Lady Y/N. We’ve lost the war.” Thor slumped down, his shoulders sagging against the pillows on the couch as he turned back to look at the television screen.
“FRIDAY please turn off the news channel in the common room.”
“Hey!” Thor protested beside her as the AI responded.
“Yes Miss.” FRIDAY’s reply came, sounding almost relieved ( as relieved as any artificial intelligence can sound ) to do so. It made Y/N wonder how long Thor had been sitting in this exact position.
“What was that for?” He’s completely turned in his seat to look at her, anger still dominating his eyes.
“Thor, we need to do something to get you out of this...this funk. With Tony,” Y/N paused. The mention of Tony’s name so freely in the moment felt right, but it still sent shuttering pain and sorrow through her body. She had to close her eyes and collect herself before continuing, “if I ever caught him in a funk in his lab, I would tell FRIDAY to put on some of his favorite songs and I’d distract him with an impromptu dance party. He just needed to get out of his head.”
“Yes, I could hear the music all the way from the kitchen sometimes.” Thor nodded, his head glancing toward the kitchen. It’s lost all darkness, and now he seems to be caught in a memory. After a couple of moments, Y/N almost thinks she’s lost the God of Thunder, and is about to ask him a follow up question, when he speaks again. “Do you know why Tony would call me Point Break? I’ve been on Midgard for some time and I still cannot figure the name out.” She laughed at that, a full bodied laugh that caught her off guard. She’s not even responded when Thor’s face scrunched up in confusion and then realization. “So you do know this! What is it?”
“It’s a surfing term. Well, technically it is. But it’s this movie from the nineties. Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves.” Y/N hummed her response, finally looking around and nodding her head. “I can see why he’d say it. I can see a bit of Swayze in you.” Thor’s expression is still confused, as if he doesn’t completely understand her comment. So Y/N waves her hand, dropping the comment before shifting in her seat. “I think FRIDAY’s got the movie on the files. Do you want to watch it?”
Thor studied Y/N for a moment. He almost wanted to turn back on the news broadcast, but he does know that she’s right. He is in a funk that she called it. “Perhaps watching the film will help me understand why Tony calls me this. I still believe I should have been called the strongest Avenger.” He grumbled, recalling the attempt to escape in the plane only to be caught off guard by the identification.
Y/N nodded her head, a genuine smile on her face. She moves a bit closer on the couch, shoving some of the wrappers to the floor between them and lifted her head toward the ceiling. “FRIDAY?”
“Yes Miss Y/L/N?”
“Do you have Point Break?”
“I have both the 1991 and 2015 versions, Miss. Though I must recommend the ‘91 version, as--”
“’91, please.” Y/N had cut the AI off, already knowing which she would have chosen. The television switches to a different screen as FRIDAY begins to cue up the film for them. Y/N leaned over to whisper to Thor ( even though no one else was in the room ), “the 2015 remake was awful. At least in my opinion. Nothing beats the original.” She explained, tapping his shoulder when the movie’s ready to start. “You can start it now, thanks FRIDAY!”
“No problem Miss.”
Thor offered Y/N a sip of his flash--what she assumed to be some of the ale he’d brought from Asgard with him--and she shook her head, showing him the beer bottle in her hands which she opened with the key to her room before taking a sip as the movie begun.
As the beginning rolled on, Y/N watched Thor out of the corner of her eyes. She’s unsure how many films he’s seen here on Midgard. She’s seen the film enough times that she can focus on Thor’s watching of the movie instead of actually watching it, though it is one of her favorites.
“There’s a couple of references I do not understand.” Thor murmured a couple of minutes into the movie as he glanced toward Y/N. They were both leaning back against the middle of the couch now.
“I’ll explain all the dirty jokes when the films over.” Y/N chuckled teasingly, turning her eyes back to the screen.
“What does a virgin and prom night have to do with anything?” Thor asked, gesturing to the screen where the two agents were talking about the bank robbery.
“Nothing, it’s a joke. Meant for the ha has even if it isn’t that funny." Sighing, she gives in for a moment and asked FRIDAY to pause the movie so neither of them missed anything. “It’s this concept here that everyone has sex on prom night. Like that’s the big thing in the media, that everyone who hasn’t already wants to lose their virginity on prom night. Never occurred to me growing up, but they always mentioned it on the big screen. So, on prom night since everyone’s having sex all the virgins are gone. Like the bank robbers, in and out. Gone quickly.” Y/N hopes that the explanation helped him understand better.
Thor nodded his head, turning his attention back to the film as it started back up. A couple more times he turned his head to look at Y/N, like he wants to ask more questions but she simply put a finger to her lips a silent way to tell him to be quiet. “Ask questions at the end, okay?” He nodded his head at her words, turning back to the film.
It’s clear he’s got questions and comments he wants to make, but he’s keeping quiet per her request. But his eyes have moments of clarity, like he’s taken note to mention a certain scene or line again later.
Thor is like Bodhi, Y/N realized throughout watching the movie, but it’s in the softer bits of this character. Bodhi may be a character who’s a bit too focused on his own goals and a bit headfirst--which is similar to the stories that Y/N had heard about Thor, God of Thunder, before he had been banished to Midgard and before everything essentially began--but there’s more complexities to his character as well. He’s not just the tough surfer guy, or the controlling my way or no way leader of his friend group. That’s not all, there’s his passion and his sensitivity. Bodhi understands what the world does and, though he views it in a skeptical and skewed way that he attempts to exploit for his own personal gain, he does understand it.
And there are bits of this character that are very much like the God sitting on the couch beside her. Both men have certain aspects of their character; a passion for something that cannot be contained, they value their friends ( their families ) lives above everything, they take control and can be a bit too full of themselves but never completely selfish, and they both have a way with words that astounds her at times. One quote of Bodhi’s in the film always sticks with her after rewatching the movie, even after all this time, “fear causes hesitation, and hesitation will cause your worst fears to come true.”
However, Y/N can’t be sure that Thor’s similar look ( a similar hairstyle and some features, especially in the film ) to Patrick Swayze isn’t why Tony actually picked the nickname.
Finally, the movie came to a close and Y/N had FRIDAY turn off the television before she turned in her seat to face Thor fully. “Okay, now you may ask whatever, or make comments. But, please, before you start, I have no idea if this is how an actual agency does things. I’m only working with the Avengers as an assistant. The closest I get to any agents is when Fury called for Pepper and I had to tell him she had a meeting and needed to get back to him later. He’s kind of scary.”
That got a chuckle out of Thor, who sat up straighter on the couch and turned to face Y/N as well. He took a couple of moments to collect his thoughts before he started speaking, and they spent the next half an hour or more discussing the movie.
“So that Agent Utah just used her parents death? Pretended as though his were dead to get an in with her? Do agents really do that?”
“From what I’ve seen undercover can get you into deep shit.”
“Are you expected to not form genuine attachments on undercover missions? Should they not have seen this coming?” Y/N almost doesn’t expect this question, but then again Thor was never a SHIELD agent, so he wouldn’t know anything about undercover work. Y/N only knows the things she does from overhearing conversations, people telling her stories, or brief reports that have passed by her desk.
“I think the point is that you’re supposed to understand that at the end of the day it’s a job. But lines get blurred quickly when you’re in that position. That’s why I could never be an agent. I did think about it, especially when I got the job at Stark Industries. But instead I decided to stick to self defense and boxing lessons.”
“In that one scene, where Tyler finds out, she had never shot a weapon before, yes?”
“I don’t know. Probably not.”
“How could she know it wouldn’t hit him?”
“Thor, it’s a movie, not real life.”
“Do you know how to shoot a gun?”
“I’ve taken self defense since I started working here, I’ve trained with a couple of the agents. You don’t need to worry about me.”
“I was unsatisfied with the ending.”
“What? That’s like the most satisfying ending they could have done!”
“But what about--”
Y/N’s cut Thor off, knowing what he’s going to say, “It’s not about her. It’s about them. They’re the main story. It’s about the fight between them. The struggle between doing what’s right and being too close to see straight.”
“But nothing’s resolved.”
“Isn’t it?”
“Surfing seems very interesting. I might like to try it someday. Have you ever tried it?”
“No chance in hell, I’m not coordinated enough for that. I’d be like Johnny the first time he’s out in the ocean, probably fall down and get lost in the waves.”
“Do you think Tony really thought the nickname through?” Thor asked Y/N after a particularly long silence.
Y/N’s shoulders shrugged, “I don’t know. Maybe? He could also have thought you looked like Bodhi--Patrick Swayze. The hair and everything, like I said earlier, I can see the similarities.” she ruffled his hair slightly, though it was more like gently running her hand through the much shorter locks that he wore now. “Even now, I can see it.”
“What other films has he been in?”
“Oh, Patrick Swayze was in a ton of films. We could have a whole Swayze movie marathon, if you want.”
Thor considered this for a moment before nodding his head, “I’d enjoy that, Y/N.”
“Good, we can continue with The Outsiders!” Y/N grinned and turned toward the screen, already readying to call FRIDAY to get the other films queued up. Thor’s hand on her shoulder stopped her in her movements and she turned back to look at him. “What’s up?”
“Thank you.” He doesn’t elaborate on whether it’s thanks for showing him the film, or thanks for getting his mind off of everything going on in the world outside around them, but he doesn’t need to.
She understands.
She nodded her head back to him, curling back up on the couch in her original spot as she called FRIDAY to ready the next film for them.
And maybe, things would get better.

non-American books wanted
EDIT: guys, thank you SO MUCH for all the recs, you are incredible! I gathered all of them and put them in this post - to see them pls scroll past the original request.
Little statistics before I get to the point: I read 30 books this year; half of them were by American authors; 1/3 were written by Poles (I read more Polish books than I expected tbh). Which leaves me with one French non-fiction book, one Russian classic, one set of stories by Chinese-American and one Mongolian 13-th century chronicle (”The secret history of Mongols” which was amazing to read btw!)
I looked then at my Goodreads “read” list and decided: that’s it. No more American authors for me next year. And it’s not that I despise American literature or anything: as in every country, there are very good and very bad books. So it’s really not as much about quality, as it is about way of story-telling and establishing story structure and simply: way of seeing the world. And I realised I won’t be getting enough diversity of that if I stay inside one - even if vast and diverse itself - country.
And besides, we are so surrounded by American mainstream media EVERY day and yet, new technologies and especially e-books allow us to reach books that were previously not possible to get in some countries, so why not use these possibilities?
So I kindly ask you to recommend me some books written by non-Americans, if you know any. They can be classics, contemporary, fantasy, YA, I don’t really care. There is only one obvious condition: they must be translated either into English or Polish or eventually German (if they don’t include a difficult kind of language).
So far I have on my list [list was included here, I deleted it bc this post got way too long as it was] Pls recommend me some more titles so I can fill this list up to 30 books! : )
* * *
EDIT: everyone, again, thank you SO MUCH for so many recs! I didn’t expect such a big response, this turned out to be way over 30 books : )
I gathered all the recs I got from you and created two lists: my actual to-read list for 2018 consisting of 30 29 books so far, each of them from different country / ethnicity, and the ever-growing list of non-American books, where I put all of your recs and also sth from myself, divided by country.
I hope it will be useful for you as well! Thank you once again and enjoy. And if you have any more recommendations, don’t hesitate to message me and I will add more books to the list : )
and finally, you can find both lists under the cut, because they are REALLY long.
my to-read list for 2018:
Marguerite Abouet “Aya” (YA, Ivory Coast)
Svetlana Alexievich “War does not have a woman’s face” (nonfiction, Belarus/Ukraine)
Fredrik Backman “My Grandmather Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry” (general fiction / humour, Sweden)
Zen Cho “The Terracotta Bride” (fantasy, Malaysia / Great Britain)
Tibor Déry “G. A. úr X.-ben” (sci-fi / distopia / classic, Hungary; no English translation)
Maurice Druon “The Accursed Kings” series (historical fiction; France)
Corinne Duyvis “On the Edge of Gone” (post-apo, Netherlands)
Umberto Eco “The Book of Legendary Lands” (non-fiction; Italy)
Kerstin Gier “Rubinrot” (fantasy/YA, Germany)
Dmitry Glukhovsky “Metro 2033″ (post-apo, Russia)

My favourite programs of the season
Ok, so, just a reminder you asked for this guys XD Someone asked me to post more figure skating content and reviews, so I thought I’d do posts about different things, starting with a list of my favourite programs of the season. I have a (quite) limited amount of free time, so I won’t post that often, but I have some ideas (I’ll probably do some top five posts about my favourite skaters and I think I might do similar posts for juniors/seniors to watch etc) and if you want me to talk about something...you know where to find me. That said, it’s the first time I try to write something like this, so feedback (replies, anons, whatever you want) is much appreciated. Is this too much? Too serious? You tell me.
Let’s get started now, cause the list is long.
Ladies’ SP:
Wakaba Higuchi - La Califfa
Laurine Lecavelier - Experience
Gabby Daleman - Herodiade
Anna Pogorilaya - Por Una Cabeza
Others worth mentioning: Elizabet Tursynbaeva, Kaetlyn Osmond.
My n.1 would have to be Wakaba’s program. But then again you can’t expect anything short of perfection from Bourne: the program perfectly highlights how much Wakaba has grown in the last year, especially when it comes to interpretation. I do think this program allowed her to show her fantastic speed and power, but also how mature she is considering her age. The StSq is, for sure, one of my favourites of the season. Now, switching the flip would have been a nice thing, but that’s another story. I’m not sure Wakaba’s talent is in the right place as of now, but at least she got great programs this year. There were a lot of great ladies’ short programs this year, but if I had to mention another one it would be Laurine Lecavelier’s Experience.
Ladies’ FP:
Satoko Miyahara - The Planets
Mao Asada - Firedance
Polina Tsurskaya - February
Mao’s LP would be my sentimental fave (and that step sequence is pure beauty) *this was written before she retired y.y*, but truthfully it’s impossible not to give first place to Satoko’s The Planets. Tom Dickson and Satoko are a really great combo *terrible pun intended: +3 goe!* imho: he really does know how to highlight her quiet skating, but at the same time I feel like his programs really help Satoko break out of her shell. Firedance was a little masterpiece, but in this case I really liked how they choose an unusual music and how difficult it is to skate to it. I do think this program could have been performed even better and I wouldn’t complain if Satoko kept it for next season, ditch Lori and have both SP and LP choregraphed by Dickson. Tell Yamato to fire Lori Satoko, do it.
Men’s SP:
Yuzuru Hanyu - Let’s go crazy
Jin Boyang - Spiderman (it’s so bad it’s good? XD)
This list is very short. For me LGC just stole the show. I’ve had the privilege to see it live and...as Yuzuru explained, there’s not an empty moment, and if you slip up it’s impossible to get back on track. It’s an incredibly complex program and I love how detailed it is. It’s perfect, from the 4lo sandwitched between two spread eagles and his fantastic 3A from a backcounter to little movements like the way he interacts with the crowd or upper body movements throughout the program. I’m going to receive a beating from a friend because of this but...this might my favourite among his SPs. Yeah, insane. #ChopinIStillLoveYou I remember how worried people were at the start of the season, but I think we’ve all learned two things from this: trust Buttle *all hail Jeff* and trust Yuzuru to be able to bring out the best of the music he’s skating to.
Men’s FP:
Yuzuru Hanyu - Hope and Legacy
Patrick Chan - A Journey
Jun Hwan Cha - Il Postino
I actually love all of them. I’m really attached to Hope and Legacy and how delicate and yet powerful it is, but I have to admit Chiddy’s program is fantastic. I’ve never been a fan of his, in spite of admiring his SS, but I do think he really felt this program and that it highlighted how gorgeous his skating is. (no more Eric music tho please. And choose something less...cute for the SP ‘kay?) In both cases I must note how many people underestimated these programs to be honest and how little they were “understood”. I saw a lot of people compare H&L to Seimei...and I just think not many people got how complex H&L is. The program is full of transitions, there’s not a moment to breathe and every jump is executed after difficult steps and is perfectly incorporated in the choreography. The program flows from start to finish and I’m glad Yuzuru skated to something like this, at least once. It was risky, but wonderful. Cha’s Il Postino is a little masterpiece. But I still don’t trust David Wilson :P
Pairs’ SP:
Sui/Han - Blues for klook
Savchenko/Massot - That man
Peng/Jin - My Drag
James/Cipres - Earned it
Yu/Zhang - Eternal Flame
Yeah, I don’t think I have to say Sui/Han take number 1, right? Every time I say I don’t like Lori I have to admit they make her choreos work. This SP is a masterpiece, no doubt, and they sold it. Their interpretation, their personality and charisma were astounding. They simply have that “something more”, that x factor that does set them apart in an extremely competitive field. They are excellent when it comes to pair elements, but also excellent skaters on their own. Also, synchro hair flip, damn. Shoutout to My Drag, because it is such a funny program, it was a joy to watch, especially considering what happened to chinese couples last season.
Pairs’ FP:
Sui/Han - Bridge over troubled water
James/Cipres - Sound of Silence
Savchenko/Massot - Lighthouse
Besides Sui/Han’s masterpiece that made me cry like a baby...can we talk about how much Vanessa and Morgan have improved? Their FP at Euros was the best thing of the entire competition. I also quite liked Aliona and Bruno, but while they’re excellent when it comes to pairs elements (that twist damn) I still feel like there’s not the right balance between them, in terms of performance.
Ice Dance SD:
Virtue/Moir - Prince Medley
Shibutani/Shibutani - That’s Life
Chock/Bates - Bad to the bone/Uptown Funk
I’m not making surprising choices am I? xD But really, Tessa and Scott’s SD this season was incredible. They owned it, from the first to the last second. Their midline no touch is extremely sharp and perfectly fits the music. I loved the music cuts and the lift...spectacular. I must say that all the US couples made interesting choices in terms of music and that, imo, the results were really great. I’ve never been a Chock/Bates fan, but this year both their programs were A+. When the rhythms for the SD were revealed last season I was afraid we’d see horrible programs, but I’m actually quite satisfied. Many interesting music choices, some really great programs.
Ice Dance FD:
Shibutani/Shibutani - Evolution
Chock/Bates - Under Pressure
Gilles/Poirier - Con Buena Onda
Many might be surprised not to see Papadakis/Cizeron’s FD on this list. I’m a bit surprised myself to be honest, but...after the last two seasons I had really high expectations and they weren’t exactly fullfilled. It is a good FD, but I still have fresh on my mind their last two FDs and...this isn’t as perfect imo (and I’m also a bit tired of this genre tbh). I’ve seen the Shibs’ Evolution live and, while it’s not as iconic as Fix You, imo it’s a great continuation of what they started last season. They choose a quite difficult music to skate to, because it might make the program seem flat until the very end, but it ended being a great choice and a bit of a breath of fresh air if compared to many similar FDs we’ve seen lately. Can we stop the romantic/heartbreaking FD trend? Please.
Let’s say, if I had to do a top 10, this would be it:
Yuzuru Hanyu - Let’s Go Crazy
Yuzuru Hanyu - Hope and Legacy
Sui/Han - Blues for klook
Virtue/Moir - Prince medley
Patrick Chan - A Journey
Wakaba Higuchi - La Califfa
Satoko Miyahara - The Planets
Laurine Lecavelier - Experience
Jun Hwan Cha - Il Postino
Mao Asada - Firedance
Edit: I’ll put in here my favourite EX too, since someone asked :)
Notte Stellata is my ultimate fave (it’s too beautiful), followed by Wakaba’s Byakuyako, Satoko’s Hernando’s Hideaway, Caro’s Claire de Lune, the Shibs, Sui/Han and Jun Hwan’s Peanut Butter Jelly xD
If you want to discuss this, my chat is always open and the same goes for my inbox.

28: Band:- I’m gonna go with Red Hot Chili Peppers. I really like their funk / alt rock style, and the fact that they’re never really the same thing 100% of the time is really nice imo. I just don’t really like their album Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik cause it’s a lot of the same shit.

I was also on a date and we were snuggling and holding hands so like everything was in overdrive.
60: I lose all respect for people who:- Cheat. Its abhorrent. NEVER do it.
61: My Car:- Is a 2008 Ford Focus. It gets me where I need to go, but its awful in snow. Ah well, it has an AUX cord.

74: I have/will get a job:- I just bus tables at a family-owned restaurant / event destination. We have two buildings, one primarily for events and the other is the restaurant proper, and I detest being in the restaurant.
75: What are you going to do when you grow up:- lmao I am grown up, its too late for me
76: Right now I am talking to:- All y’all
77: Last time someone said something you were thinking: - We have a friend in our group who’s 16 and my favorite joke with them is, whenever someone says anything remotely sexual I chime in “But she’s like 12!” Anyway people say this with me in unison a lot

Ep. 9 - “im running on borrowed time”- Franco
Michele
I would love to see a full list of who everyone voted for. Its VERY fishy and a complete blindside. Makes me feel worse about disadvantage next round
lenny
Right when cranjes becomes my ally, they get kicked off. lol. what is happening in this tribe rn? I want to get to the bottom of it.
michele
ive never felt more alone in this game. people clearly lied to me.
lenny
according to dusty, Franco and Eliza flipped for the split vote. yuck! what to do now? I don't know. I think if I have any chance of getting Eliza or Michele out, I have to make a new alliance.
lenny
Dusty just said that her franco rain and worm were the ones to flip and that makes me very anxious and I don't know if I can trust rain fully :/ that makes me sad. I really hope I can.
lenny
so michele and I are talking which is v heartwarming. I apologized for being cold towards her. I hope we can work together.
Dusty
Well that was messed up LMAO That’s the second time Eliza has flipped on me and taken out my closest ally...anyway I will not be working with her anymore. But I’m gonna make her believe it. And thank you to my amazing acting skills she gave me her half of the super idol..........ma’am. I’m so sorry. She expects me to give it back to her after this round but Idk if I can do that if she isn’t in the game anymore! She also told me that it was her and Franco that flipped with rain and worm. So now I’m trying to work with Lenny and Michele who seem to be on board, and it seems like I’ll also have to working with frank and Sasha. And with this blind round there’s a fear of voting for someone that won immunity buuut at least I have a 10% advantage to help me out :) Wish me luck!
michele
kinda blew up a little so gonna lay low for strategy. i also sometimes take things too personally which is why i only do like 1 org a year so that last tribal got to me a lot. franco messaged me saying he doesnt trust me and even tho his instincts are completely correct idk it just feels weird. i think i just hate general confrontation
Frank
So I’m shocked Cranjes left but I’m quite happy about it. He was leading a lot of things so to have him go is wonderful. After tribal, Michele approached me about getting out Eliza or Franco, so we stan that. Once one of them is gone though the other needs to be taken out as well since they’re both strong and we don’t need one of the having a story of, oh my partner got out but I still made it through so much. After that get rid of Dusty and then Lenny at some point bc who. I’m fairly quiet but Lenny is practically a ghost. Right now the only person I actually trust though is Sasha, which is not something I thought I would say but here we are.
Franco
Blind rounds are so SCARY. Mainly the part about no one knowing who wins immunity. Like, we got out 2 idols last round by blindsiding Cranjes and flushing Frank's, but theres still more out there. And no one is going to know how tribal is going to play out Michele was kinda pissed at us for leaving her out of the vote. But? Sis left us out of her alliance with og Plati, and didnt give us ANY information last round despite knowing I was a target. Eliza is also.... Kinda not smart. She gave her half of the idol to Dusty because she wanted to reconcile. Which is nice and all! But thats a direct chance for him to get back at us and take a shot at us. Keeping the idol separate was best for everyone. So I just gotta pray Eliza knows Dusty as well as she says she does!! I dont expect to win this challenge. Im gonna chat around, but I think Im going to have to play my idol this round to save my skin. My name has been thrown around 2 rounds in a row, im running on borrowed time. We'll see how today goes!
Frank
So Franco messaged me about if I’m gonna vote him this round and that he doesn’t understand why I’m going after him. So I did the kind thing and explained it and said that I don’t want to work with him because he’s working with everyone and that I don’t see that as being beneficial to my game. So Franco is my target again and michele messaged me last night to get rid of him so we stan. I’m probably gonna get votes but who could be shocked by that.
Franco
surprise!! my name is going around AGAIN!! i'm so. not shocked. Frank has it out for my for some reason?? I confronted him this morning, let him know his """allies""" are throwing him under the bus and offered to exchange information or work together in some capacity but he literally turned it down. first rule of survivor is never shut down lines of communication like that!! he is denying any chance of game relationship we could have and thats such bad gameplay. I bombed the challenge because I'm dumb. And now that I know my name is circulating I'm going to have to play my idol. I just have to hope that whatever happens is good for my game. It's so hard to orchestrate votes during an invisible round, everyone is playing strictly for themselves because there's no reason not to. I really really finally want Frank gone. This is the THIRD ROUND in a row I've said that. but seriously I'm over him. he's gotta GO.
Eliza
Dear diary... Literally can’t believe we pulled that blindside off! I had to do some damage control with dusty and because I know what kind of player he is I gave him my half of the super idol. I told him I’d give it to him for this round to prove that the cranjes vote had nothing to do with him and that he is still someone I want to work with. He seemed shocked but obviously took the security and I think I have at least some of his trust back, I mean this IS the second time I blindsided him and voted out his closest ally. Now I know you’re probably thinking, ellie you’re a dumbass, and that I am but I know how dusty works at this point in the game and it’s gonna take a bold move like that one to get ANY of his trust back. Franco didn’t think it was the best move but I can’t just play according to Franco’s standards. The invisible round is absolutely terrifying, everyone agrees that it’s frank but we all know that he could 100% win this challenge. Obviously everyone with a brain wants to split but some of these people won’t wanna split again after they got out smarted, Franco might be playing his idol because we all know frank wants him out but frank has also said I need to go and I have absolutely no security rn so yeah, I’m fucking scared. Let’s see what happens!
Rain
So... I haven’t been around much today. I abstained from immunity. My depression is kicking in and even tho I’m doing well in the game, I can’t be bothered to get into it, as much as I want to. So I’ll ride Franco and Eliza’s coattails until either I pull out of this funk or I get voted out. The move tonight is to try to get frank. Except he’s kinda good at challenges (although, tbh, hasn’t been that great since returning - maybe the idol was holding him back?) so we think he may get immunity. I think voting Sasha would be better - like come on, I don’t even think he’s trying (is that hypocritical to say?) and he only talks to his allies. The other side (oh is it just dusty, Sasha, and frank now? Fuckin sweet) doesn’t even attempt to socialize with me. Dusty to some extent, but talking to Sasha and frank is like talking to a fucking wall. I’ll be happy if either of them go. But tbh at this point I’m ready to join the jury. I’m going to keep playing and keep trying because that’s what jay and the people I’ve voted out deserve to see, but whenever I go home, I know I played a good game for my first game in over a year.
lenny
not feeling confident about this challenge or good in general. Rain is most likely working with franco and eliza. I hope I can trust dusty. oof
Worm
So last round seemed to have back fired. I think I have alienated myself even more but I'm not sure if saying people not talking to me is showing that. They weren't talking to me before anyway so I guess nothing really changed then lol They goal this round is to target Frank which is okay with me cause I think people will start going after bigger targets next round like Eliza and Franco. Michele seems really mad at me which i can't fault her for so my goal if I survive this round is to talk to her and get her back on my side. Maybe reuniting the alliance of dusty, her, and I could make a huge impact. This challenge is really difficult so I don't think I had any chance of winning. I kinda hope I do for just in case reasons. If I being told the truth and everyone is targeting Frank then it should happen pretty easily. His idol got flushed last round so it should be simple to get rid of him. But until those votes are read I do believe that I will be the one going home.
Frank
Watch Franco have an idol and I go home. That would be funny, tbh I guess it just would be. But oh boy I am gonna get myself a nice snack if Franco goes...although let's be real I'm gonna have a nice snack no matter what. But I just want to stay and have Franco or Eliza leave since that would benefit my game to an extreme since they KEEP TRYING TO VOTE ME OUT. Or at least saying my name which is enough for me. Like if you say my name, get out!
rain
Tribal is in a few minutes, and I’ve just had an emotional chat with Franco He is truly an incredible ally and I really look forward to being in the reunion w him and finding out who he is irl (although I have a guess) Anyway, I just wanted to give him some positive edit, because I’m sure he’s very N as the villain of the game :P
Dusty
This is crazy idek if I won immunity or what’s happening I changed my vote like 3 times LMAO i voted for Eliza I don’t know what’s happening i think I’m freaking out for no reason. My only fear is michele being very quiet.
michele
being quiet worked i guess. wasnt really a game move but i didnt get voted out so yay
Sasha
I really just gave up on trying to have my own strategy/game and just voted how people told me to huh
Eliza
Dear diary... It was a tie between me and frank, this might be the last time I write in confessions but hopefully I was able to make some sort of impact in the game. Wow this sucks
Dusty
jflkdsaiof okay a tie well michele being quiet all day meant that she didnt get the chance to know the vote was for eliza... which just made me think someone decided to not flip against eliza/franco so in the revote i reached out to worm and rain to try and get them to flip which they both denied. ugh im so stupid, they would know regardless that i flipped, but now it seems like i was soooo adamant about her going... oh well. Franco is going to be pissed anyway

ok so i love these ocs, i really really do (even if i never do anything with them, i love the concept of them ig) but the best oc i’ve ever made was lyra and i’ll never, in my life, be able to make another oc that’s as good as her. she’s just on a whole other level
like, ok i’m sorry but i’m gonna elaborate because i love n miss her. i’ll put it under a cut because this might get a bit long since she’s genuinely my fave oc ever
edit: this DID get super fucking long and i am SO sorry asdmmsdm
also her backstory can be upsetting so if u wanna read this (and if u do i would die for u) i’d recommend you checked the tags first
so lyra’s an oc that i made for a... um... i think our plan was to make it a VN? in any case it was a Something my ex and i were working on. now the verse itself was nothing to write home about,
like it was fun but i don’t particularly miss it because, even though it was cool, what i was really invested in were the ocs i’d made for it, not the setting itself
anyway, i kinda do have to explain what it was all about because a bunch of things about lyra wouldn’t make sense otherwise. i’ll make it short though: in this world you could get magic tattoos, so, for example one of my ocs had fire tattoos, which meant that they could manifest + control fire, if that makes sense
they weren't something you picked, you just sort of got the ink on your body and then it would take the form it wished, idr how that worked but i think it had to do with the ink sort of choosing something that fit you (or challenged you? again idr very well)
these tattoos also came w/ secondary manifestations, which were milder powers, not nearly as powerful as the primary manifestations but still useful: talking about the fire-controlling oc again, they could turn themselves invisible
and for reasons i can’t remember there was a tournament of sorts where ppl w/ tattoos fought each other (not to the death, it was a friendly spart sort of thing), this tournament was really important and famous
back to lyra: she came from a very ancient, very powerful family with a magic bloodline, meaning that they could do a sort of blood magic + had a predisposition towards magic others didn’t. this family was super big, they even had a... i think i called it a compound? ruled by a matriarch, and a lot of them lived together in this compound, i’m talking more than 100 people + their guards and such
anyway, lyra was -outwardly- very proud of her family. i mean outwardly because her pride was more of a desperate need for acceptance that led her to try and do things for the glory and respect of her family: her parents were shitty to her, constantly undermining her and mistreating her, and nobody else seemed to care about her or even notice her
lyra very desperately craved love and warmth, but at the same time she didn’t feel worthy of it, and she thought she couldn’t have it because all she did was break things, she could never be good - she hid all her insecurities underneath an irreverent, nonchalant attitude and bad jokes, all of which often caused her to offend people (especially her uptight, standoffish family members)
things got bad for her. very bad. she didn't have any friends, she didn't have anyone who loved her, she didn't love herself, so she attempted suicide twice, both times by drowning. lyra was very found of the sea and water in general, she loved swimming and sailing, which is exactly why she wanted to drown: she thought the sea was the only one who wanted her, and that the sea would take her back because it always looked after its own
she looked for a different way of escaping, avoiding reality, hurting herself, and she became an alcoholic
so fast forward a couple of years, with lyra getting more and more despondent by the minute, and her coping mechanisms growing worse and worse, until she decided that she was going to get the tattoos and join (and win) the tournament because she had something to prove, to her family and to herself
as it turns out, when her tattoos manifested, they were water tattoos; and her secondary power was healing
ofc the symbolism there wasn't subtle at all, but lyra was a subtle person, prone to lying to the point of mythomania, who used dramatics to mastefully conceal parts of herself. so her magic being a bit on-the-nose was entirely on purpose
water also fit lyra because lyra was so duplicitous, so two-sided, and water was the exact same way for her: the only one who'd ever loved her and the one who would've killed her, if she'd had her way
healing, well, that one's obvious mssdkf like, she thinks she's broken and all she does is hurt people, but she gets the ability to help them
wrow this is getting very long. there's not much else to tell though, just that i liked the fact that her character development was super slow; it took a LONG ass while for her to even come close to shedding her mask and opening herself up, and an even longe while for her to start giving up her unhealthy coping mechanisms
like she fell in love and made friends and everything, but it was still a very difficult process for her and one that took time
and god i'd love to do sth with her again because she means so much to me and i love her so much, but idk how to make her work... although tbh i was writing about how thematically she's v much linked to that setting,
but come think of it she's not? like the only thing about her that depends on the setting is her magic. and even then i could find a way to change it so that her magic develops + manifests differently. and since she was my oc her background + family + etc were all things i'd come up with myself, so it wouldn't be stealing or anything if i tried to alter them
hmmmmmmm i'll have to think about this because i adore lyra and i want to do something w/ her. the prospect of RPing her might even be enough to get me out of this writing/socializing funk...
