Okay so the quick version of this is: saw Two Of Us today, adored it even more than I adore the film, the choice to keep them in John's building worked really well to further highlight the mental health message the director talks about in his little note in the programme, the rooftop scene is somehow even more intimate and lovely in this version and the ending is even more painful! I'm gonna write down more under the cut about it all:

Playlist: The playlist before the show/during the interval is everything you would want it to be and it includes Monkberry Moon Delight which I feel like I never hear in public! 

The overall experience was also just super wholesome, one thing I always love about Beatles events is the range of people there it just makes you feel like your part of such a special thing, so shout out to all the old women talking about Paul near me, the middle aged men in their Beatles shirts, and the girl behind me who was sooo excited to be there and I hope she got to meet the cast after like she wanted to! ALSO the Beatles drinks are so funny, idk why Ringo’s is just earl grey tea 😭

Performances: OKAY let’s get into it. So one of my only real complaints about the film is that although I think overall Jared Harris and Aiden Quinn do an amazing job but I do find the quality a little inconsistent (especially the accents) but Jay Johnson and Barry Sloane are soooo so good, the accents, the little verbal quirks (which also, kudos to the writer as well) and the physicalities are jarringly good at points, especially Barry Sloane’s John. I also feel like a lot of Get Back was watched in preparation because there were so many little things, like the way John plays with his hair that just took me right back to that. Sometimes with fictional Beatles things I’m constantly thinking about how you’re watching two people try to portray these real people, but I definitely found that they were convincing enough that I wasn’t thinking about it too much. 

Outfits: I did find it kinda weird they went for the Get Back looks rather than how they looked in 76, I feel robbed of the New York City vest tbh but they did look great 

Changes from the film: basically they cut out them going for the walk to the park and to Luigi’s and instead John sets up the table for them like they’re in a restaurant in his kitchen. I think it works really well because they play into John not wanting to leave the building, which just adds into that whole mental health thing, and I think it actually makes the rooftop scene more poignant when they get there, because it feels more like Paul has broken through a bit and coaxed him outside, even if it’s baby steps. Anyway, they still have all the same conversations really the script is just chopped up a bit. 

One interesting thing is that the conversation that happens with the fan in Luigi’s still happens, but John sort of pesters Paul about whether he really thinks silly love songs should be number one, and it’s a nice extra layer to Paul’s insecurity which I enjoyed 

Mental health conversations: I think going into it knowing that the director wanted to make this because of the mental health themes, specifically men’s mental health and how having someone to reach out to is so important, is really interesting. They definitely amped up John’s anxiety from the film, his fidgeting and little moments to himself where he’s trying to get himself together were just so palpable, and Paul talking about his depression after the Beatles broke up was even more raw and upsetting seeing it in front of you. My absolute favourite line in the film is ‘I’m thirty-five years old and I still feel like I’ve done something wrong’ and god, my heart just broke seeing it on stage, I think that’s such a common feeling, just that sense that you’re in trouble for something but you’re not really sure what? Anyway, I just loved Sloane’s delivery of it. 

The Kiss: Okay, look I actually don’t care that much about the kiss in the film, I’m glad it’s in there as a little nod to John’s queerness but it really isn’t anything imo, but I liked it a lot more in this! For one thing rather than coming after a little play fight (which is still cute, don’t get me wrong) they do one of their silly dances where they’re spinning each other round etc, so the scene already feels more tender, and then John just kinda grabs him and it goes on a little longer than in the film. I still think it’s far from one of the most intimate moments in the show, but I do think they made it into something more here. 

Rooftop scene: It’s just. It’s everything. They sit right at the front of the stage, facing each other, cross legged and Paul gives him the whole ‘I see a beautiful baby boy speech’ and it’s PERFECT, this was the moment I was most worried about them screwing up and it was perfectly delivered and they have this lovely big hug after it and it made my heart ache in the best way. And idk, if seeing some guy dressed up as Paul McCartney saying that we should focus on fun and get out our own heads and how we don’t have to stay stuck as the kids who were just scared and trying to survive, doesn’t do something for you, then we’re just very different people. 

SNL scene: okay it’s pretty much the same but the way John is sleeping on Paul was everything, it wasn’t just a head on the shoulder he was fully laying back against Paul!! 

The ending: this is just so brutal because Paul doesn’t leave the flat to get his guitar, he borrows one of John’s and so when Yoko calls and John starts doing the whole ‘I wish you were here, you’re the only one who stops me disappearing’ it’s literally…. In Paul’s face. And it hurts. Then at the very end they cut between John on the phone to Yoko and Paul on the phone to Linda, and so Paul says ‘I love you’ to Linda, then John says ‘I love you too’ to Yoko but it sounds like they said it to each other, and then Here Today plays. The fact most people didn’t appear to be crying baffled me quite frankly. 

Yoko: They decided to have Yoko be the one who actually invited Paul, which felt like an odd choice and didn’t really add anything for me, but there we go

actually, you begin to appreciate reo more. he’s definitely not the type of person you were expecting.

Okay so I have quite a few thoughts. First of all, it's actually not as cringe as I thought it would be. There were several hilarious one liners and honestly most of the best acting and comedic moments go to the side characters. There were a lot of "omg lol so relatable" moments that were ehh, but they did nail quite a few things about being an awkward 30 year old. I have to say I actually really liked the actor who played Zoey's boss and the actor who played her fake boyfriend.

Now Quogan. They do get married!!! They do have a callback to their sweet first love confession!!! And they spend the majority of time on screen together holding each other or calling each other babe or just generally being really affectionate. Tbh, it still wasn't enough for me, I still wish Quinn and Logan got more screen time, especially to make their storyline clearer.

As most people predicted, Zoey was like 90% responsible for ruining the wedding, but Logan takes the other 9%, and there's an awkward moment with Stacey and Mark accusing Zoey's fake boyfriend of being a murderer that takes the last 1%. However, I think we'd view Logan as more responsible if there was more screen time actually focused on that, but the majority of the screen time is focused on Zoey ruining the wedding, half assing her job, and having romantic troubles with Chase. The storyline they tried to set was Logan being a groomzilla trying to make everything perfect to the point that he doesn't spend enough time talking to Quinn about everything, but that doesn't come across very well considering most of his screen time is him... with Quinn. I mean I get what they were trying to go for here, but the way everything goes in the film it is so much more obvious that Zoey is the main one ruining the wedding. If things were just a little more focused on Quogan, I think we would have been able to see more clearly Logan neglecting Quinn in favor of giving her the perfect wedding.

They make up rather quickly too. I also don't like that they had Zoey help with the fixing by reminding Logan to go and actually speak with Quinn. That to me was out of character. Logan and Quinn were always great at communicating with each other, I don't think he would have just showered her with presents and forgotten to try to actually speak with her as he does in the movie. At least the two aren't separated for long, but still that moment just bothered me a little, and it was like a two second scene that could have easily been cut.

Now here is the biggest thing that bothered me. Yes, Zoey and Chase finally end up together for reals, whatever, but they have their big kiss at! the! wedding!!! I mean there's two kisses before this between them, but the big "oh we're finally going to be together" kiss happens at the wedding right in the middle of Quinn and Logan's first dance! And the crowd fucking claps for them!!! Wtf??

Anyways. Oh and also they don't show the full wedding ceremony. They have Michael begin and then suddenly cut to someone telling Michael how beautiful the ceremony was. Lazy writing.

At least Quinn and Logan are adorable at their wedding. The kiss, the cutting cake together, and her teasing him. Very cute. I will never get enough of that kiss scene! It is actually so good, y'all. You can tell the actors still have great chemistry with each other!

Overall, the movie is perfectly fine. I wouldn't say it's great, but I wouldn't say it's bad either. There's stuff I wish they had done differently, but it's cute for what it is. I just really wish we got more Quogan screentime because they are my faves!

Final note: They mention every single character who couldn't be there except for Nicole. Yikes. That just kind of annoyed me, especially hearing that that actress wasn't treated very well during the original show.

*Bonus note: I like that they implied at the end that the fake boyfriend was indeed a murderer lmao! If there's any spinoff from this spinoff, I wonder if it will be about him!

**Bonus bonus note: There's a line where Mark comments on Logan being quick on the rebound and sloppy seconds, and Logan's just like "yeah man," and idk why it was so funny to me, but I just feel like the actors added that in themselves lol.

MY MACBETH REVIEW. except that makes it sound so formal this is just me saying things. and it’s long too so no one will read im sure except like three of you 🙏

spoilers for the production if ur seeing it i suppose but not really. and spoilers for macbeth but i mean it’s 400 years old so that’s your problem

okay so it was crazy good. really sort of…bare but in a sort of gothic and chilling way. it felt modern without being too full of itself. the sound design was great and i also really loved the celtic folk music they had going on. i ADORED the witches at the start as voices in vapours and also how they had the whole company play them in their later scene. i think it’s possibly the most successful demonstration of macbeth being tormented/haunted that i’ve seen. the choreography was wonderful both here and in the final battle. plus i adored the donmar it’s my first time going there and man. it being so small is wonderful! it really is the most intimate theatre in london

context wise i especially thought how they focused on the loss of a child was engaging. it’s something that i personally haven’t seen focused on much in a lot of productions and it was really interesting that they only had one child cast member to play the children. i know that’s common in productions like this with limited casts but it was really made to be read into. like it wasn’t subtext it was text. that they set him up as THEIR child at the start, and throughout macbeth would interact with tenderness before violence was so so interesting and well-done. that they were haunted by their lost child who they saw in everything and yet still murdered. and the fact that fleance and young siward were both CHILDREN was like. crazy. sickening even. when macbeth kills young siward it was mad too like i gasped as did half the theatre.

another thing is the fact that even though it was a ‘shorter’ production it didn’t feel idk. frantic or rushed. i think coming off the back of seeing lear with kenneth branagh i was unsure about it bc that DID feel rushed and lost a lot of emotion bc of it. this wasn’t the case at allll with macbeth it felt perfectly paced and remained thrilling and tense throughout.

i think some people think the headphone thing was gimmicky but personally i really enjoyed it. it leant itself to parts of the performance (eg. whispers, clinking daggers, the sort of things u wouldn’t typically hear) and i enjoyed how it built atmosphere and tension but my favourite bit of it is that it sort of added a level of separation between say, the ghost of banquo and the witches and the ‘reality’ of the scene. without the headphones they do not exist. it’s involving but also plays with what is real and what isn’t. i did actually remove them a couple of times and tbh i did enjoy some parts of the performances more without them but overall it was utilised well and was more than a gimmick to me.

performances ummm. they were brilliant. cush jumbo was awesome and has such a stage presence which is so important for lady macbeth. very understated charisma that rlly lends itself to all of her character…i LOVED the porter they were soooo fun and funny and did great audience work AND gave me my pantomime fix for the year. and of course david tennant was brilliant. the hype was real he is very good isn’t he. and i’m saying this as a frequent killjoy. and i did like to see him get thrown around and picked up by women

The members of BTS are working professionals with a decade of experience in their field. They know how to conduct themselves and how to perform. Kinda insulting to otherwise act like they would fall apart if they don’t get “support” in the physical sense. Yes, I think Jikook are in a long term relationship, but they can’t be with each other every second. I’m single but if I wasn’t, I wouldn’t expect my partner to drop everything at their job that day because I have to give a particularly nerve wracking lecture or talk in front of my coworkers. I don't really know if I should be happy about. For every scene that should only focus on Tifa, clearly Only on tifa and remind you of tifa. The devs give scenes that would mislead others. I don't mind subtext and red herrings. I don't. But.. it turn into Bad storytelling when it's not explicitly addressed. Interpretation can easily turn into "this is it". If nothing is explicitly clear, it becomes a majority wins game.

They really had to add that bitch in Tifa's bikini reveal? Do people really even care about the bgm?

This being scared and "considerate" about crackshippers is what gives me trust issues.

While I know I can Trust Cloud and know the real meaning of these misleading scenes. I know he has Negative Zero attraction to her and that he Genuinely tried to be a good friend just like he does with yuffie, barret, jessie , etc. but why do we have to work for that? Why do everytime I see the answer I can also see them making it easy for crackshippers and stupid 50/50 clotis to see things that AREN'T THERE.

When I see yamazaki explain something to them, I become sad. He wants to say leslie is referring to Tifa but the devs let him be at the storm of this. Her resolution, etc, he's always being careful Not to mislead (I Hope that continues). But again. The devs want to have their cake and eat it too.. they don't do this disrespect only to cloud and tifa. They do this also to zack. He's also a source of guilt? But it's not emphasized. They even released the film where he's not there. Should have been CCR first tbh then ACC.

Devs.. act like crackshippers do, always try to force the bitch on screen even when it's not necessary. She's not written at the same level and effort as tifa. You won't call tifa a mary sue. She barely existed in OG as in existed for the topic of her role. It's all about her love life. And even the external plot, they've downplayed that in rebirth. The only thing she has for what? So it'll look like she's doing this for him just as tifa does? Poor planet wtf.

For every scene this bitch is in. They make it easy for other to cope and defend her. She has flaws but it's not a flaw unless it's addressed. Again, mary sue.

Last night I saw that she only tells she'll hang out with cloti only when it's Tifa's gsd. She doesn't push her self onto yuffie's gsd. Like what the utter fck is that about? Devs making her say "cherish her" and then fck them over after? Then people clamoring, oh she said this so it's okay. What? If your SO said she ain't cheating but you see she is you won't see the disconnect with words and actions? I don't even know where to start. I'm getting a headache with how Disappointed I am with this Bitch and the devs who gaslights people.

14.8.2023 - Last Twilight Filming

Tbh with you all, these two pictures make me giggle like a maniac. I previously talked about how curious I am about Ohm and his character + the role he plays in Day's life and his relationship with Mork. These pictures seem to just answer everything XD

Okay, not really. Once again I'm left hoping Ohm/August gets to be more than someone who makes Mork jealous. But with these pics, I don't really mind. Look at Mork's sour face! He's so amusing. And Day is just pure sunlight, damn. How is he so radiant?

Also, I have to point out that I am extremely satisfied with the styling department's performance when it comes to this series. Just like BB felt comfy and like I was watching real people be, well, just people, so does this. These are just people, just some guys. This is just about normal life and things that happen to normal people. Unlike in VV where everything, for obvious reasons, had this magical or fantastical quality to it (the filming locations, props, styling), Last Twilight is about realism. It's something you can fully relate to, and I need to thank P'Aof for that. As much as I enjoyed VV/PuenTalay, it's nice to see JimmySea dressed so casually and acting as guys who just happen to live their lives and meet in the middle of it.

Reverse Indiana Jones where archaeologists from looted countries break in to steal back antiquities from White Museums. I know it’s been mentioned before but no one mentioned this idea, which is: It’s a different archaeologist from each country and they get together to plan a heist. The group as a whole is called Indiana Jones but in the group their code names are all “Your favorite pet’s name is your first name and the most common last name in your country is your last name.”

Bonus: Some of these archaeologists know the others because hey they read papers and go to conferences but they are absolutely committed to the joke.

When I say Iron Man is the best MCU movie I mean that in a “it was made before the MCU became a behemoth, it really wasn’t expected to be as loved as it was, it was a perfect storm of everything falling into place and if it had been made later in the series it would have been just as soulless as the later films and shows” way. Like yes it’s also a “because I love Iron Man” way but it’s also the movie that started it all. If they’d made Endgame with even a fraction of the fun and joy and genuine love and care for the character that Jon Favreau had, it would have been a better movie.

The actors literally didn’t know what was happening around them in the scenes they acted in in Endgame. In stark contrast, Iron Man only had the story and action details down pat, not dialogue, and the actors could play around with what little script they did have, ad-libbing most of the film, so it comes out more natural. Jeff Bridges even said he was uncomfortable not having a whole script because he liked knowing all his lines beforehand, but “realizing it was like being in a ‘two hundred-million-dollar student film’ took the pressure off of him and made it fun.” Endgame could never.

I’m thinking of an Identity Porn AU where Steve came out of the ice, looked at SHIELD for two seconds, then went “nah” and fucked off to go be Nomad. He’s still Captain America sometimes, when he needs to be, but most people think he’s a phony, so he sticks to the Nomad costume for most things, including interacting with the Avengers (the only one of whom he can identify is Natasha, and who immediately clocks him because “you’re built like Cool Ranch, Steve.”).

Of course, because he has rapport with Natasha, he follows her on Twitter, and right now she’s in a battle with someone whose handle is simply “TheMechanic,” but whose name is “NomadRawMeChallenge.”

“You really need to learn how to be appropriate on the internet,” Natasha had tweeted.

“What I really need is Nomad to raw me until I’m too dick-stupid to tweet,” TheMechanic had replied.

And, well, Steve is just a man, okay? He thinks it’s funny that TheMechanic has a tweet chain fifty-seven tweets long that’s just an ode to the deep V of his costume, or the obviously drunken ramblings of how he’d been an equestrian when he was younger so he could absolutely “ride Nomad hard enough his eyes fucking cross under that dumb domino mask.” Sometimes Natasha begs him to filter himself and TheMechanic belligerently asks her if she thinks his ass deserves to not be fucked and if she really wanted him to shut up she should prove her strap game.

“What’s a strap game?” Steve types into google, and mostly just has more questions, because it looks like TheMechanic wants Natasha to prove she’s got guns on her.

But again. Steve’s just a man. So one day when he’s feeling a little horny, he recklessly tweets to TheMechanic, “Hey,” and then a selfie he’d taken the night before on a rooftop right before he’d taken down some AIM thugs trying to steal from Stark Industries. He doesn’t get an immediate response but that’s okay. The guy doesn’t have to be online all the time.

Steve is just tucking his phone into his pocket when Iron Man flies into the room—literally flies, repulsors leaving scorch marks on the carpet. Steve opens his mouth to scold him.

“NATASHA WE HAVE A CODE RED NOMAD TWEETED ME HELP WHAT DO I SAY,” Iron Man bellows, and Steve nearly swallows his tongue. “Oh hi Steve, hope I’m not interrupting. NATASHA THIS IS IMPORTANT,” he shouts, turning back to her.

Natasha lets out a bark of hysterical laughter. Steve can only surmise that it’s because his mouth is still hanging open and he’s staring at Iron Man like he’s a ghost.

“Natasha this is important I only have one first impression,” Iron Man hisses. “I need to ride that dick. I have been horny since the first night I saw that stupid costume NATASHA HELP ME.”

“I’ll just leave you two to work on this,” Steve says hastily.

It’s only his super hearing that catches Iron Man mournfully asking, “Do you think your hot artist friend would be willing to pity-dick me if Nomad turns me down?”

“Oh my god,” Natasha chokes out, voice full of mirth, and Steve hates that this is probably the most fun she’s had in literal years.

Just had the funniest fucking crack idea: Pepper and Rhodey require written essays from Tony’s prospective beaus now. He is ridiculously codependent with Rhodey and Pepper thinks it’s hilarious so she encourages it. Why do they like Tony? How do they feel about him? Why do they think they deserve him? Rhodey and Pepper are mostly doing it for shits and giggles but sometimes an essay alarms them enough to put their feet down and scare someone off. But mostly it’s for fun.

“What the fuck is this,” Rhodey asks as Steve hands him a sheaf of paper. It looks a lot like one of his dissertations from college. It’s professionally bound and everything.

“Natasha told me that people who want to date Tony have to submit an essay on why they should be able to for you and Pepper to read,” Steve answers earnestly.

Rhodey does not burst out laughing in his face, but only because he’s flipped to the back page and sees Steve really did write a fucking dissertation on why he should be able to date Tony. It’s almost three hundred pages. Even his dissertation at MIT wasn’t that long. “Uh, okay,” he finally says, for lack of anything else, and then, “Oh my God. A citation page.”

“I had to go through some stuff about me and Captain America as a whole to state my case and Bruce said I needed to cite my sources because apparently I can’t just say ‘my life,’” Steve huffs. “Especially if I’m arguing against it.”

It’s APA format to boot. Rhodey stares at it. “Okay.” He looks up at Steve. “Did you get this professionally edited, or…”

“Natasha edited it and Bruce went over it for citation errors,” Steve answers, enthused again. “I wanted to be thorough. I really like Tony.”

“Okay,” Rhodey says again, wondering if he can just skim it. His phone vibrates. He picks it up to look at the text.

He opens the picture and immediately wants to weep at how fucking funny it is.

Tony is an asshole. He steals my coffee in the mornings and makes fun of my shirts and is an idiot for not realizing I wear them on purpose because he likes to stare at my muscles. In this section I will list why 1) he is stupid, 2) I like that about him, 3) he must be blind, and 4) I would like to simultaneously throw him down the garbage chute and also very delicately kiss the laugh lines around his beautiful eyes.

“I’ll go sit with Pepper and read this behemoth,” Rhodey chokes out, forcing back tears of mirth. He gets up and moves toward the elevator.

“If you have any suggestions on things I could change, I’m open to them,” Steve tells him seriously, and Rhodey loses the battle and starts cackling before the elevator doors close.

Rhodey is almost put off by the section labeled “Intercourse: Why It Would Be Great” but it’s mostly just cited pictures of Tony labeled “look at this shit. How am I meant to go on. Who allowed him to wear these pants.” Well, first of all, Rhodey, and second of all, it was the eighties and everyone was wearing them.

okayyyy seeing barbie the second time and some things i noticed that i think push more into the critique of barbie - on the first day where barbie has a perfect day and gets the perfect breakfast, she sips the milk but doesn’t eat the waffle, in fact barbie doesn’t actually eat. ever. and its not because she cannot as a doll, again she does the action of sipping milk, and in fact does even drink actual tea in the real world, but she doesn’t even pretend to eat. now i do think its a stretch but i think this could be greta’s nod to how barbie being an unrealistic body type can lead to unhealthy eating habits

-  even barbie world where everything is perfect and women rule the world, they still carry the harmful social dynamics girls experience when they don’t do femininity “right” - weird barbie is still ostracized and exiled for being weird. The Barbies still worry about having perfect hair and Barbie’s flat feet are considered unequivocally gross.

- something that im still thinking about is that at the end of the mom’s double standards speech, she ends with “i dont know” and i dont know if its intentional but both times ive listened to that and gotten to the end im like okay wow. but uh. what was the point? and that i dont know at the end makes me feel like it is a critique on like, feminism that is just about pointing out the things wrong with the patriarchy without offering a real solution ? (im still trying to understand my own take on this tbh) and how like this sort of rhetoric managed to snap the barbies out of their patriarchy trances and magically solve everything but like. that doesn’t work in the real world. the real world is aware of this dichotomy, take sasha, the politically correct middle schooler, who is portrayed not just as an exception, a nerdy sjw, but in fact as a cool girl, leader of the intimating middle school girl posse - she knows that women are mistreated, but that doesn’t solve that companies “still do patriarchy very well, but just know how to hide it better“. Like i guess its that the message is here. everyone knows we Should treat women better, but how do we institute that kind of change? As we see with the way barbies treat each other and approach beauty as a necessity, even just putting women in power doesn’t necessarily solve it? im not sure, but i think somewhere in here is the heart of the movie, this movie which says only men in power doesn’t work, but neither does just women in power. - ordinary barbie... who is she? are we able to glamorize and idolize a regular woman? I think “mattel” says she will sell because she is relatable, and that is what people are clamoring for atm, especially youth who want accurate representation and to be seen. but like, idk the consequences of that are not discussed. Will she stay relevant? Will she ever be as iconic as stereotypical barbie is? Can she be? - The way mattel is portrayed in this movie is ... interesting. I think a lot of it must be censored/restricted by the actual company’s influence on the film, but like... hmm. They’re portrayed kind of as an “average corporation”, boring office, all male executives, the quip at the end being like oh if ordinary barbie sells we’ll make her. But also the ceo not caring that ken is making money, and only “caring about little girls and their dreams” was a weird, unexpected line for me. is this them trying to protect their image? like an oh we do only really care about making money but we can’t just outwardly sell patriarchy because that would look bad? or was that genuine? Is he too lost in the corporation sauce that he sold himself on that idea? Also because the executives are portrayed very de-humanized and lacking in autonomy (honestly some of the least human-like characters in the movie about dolls).

unfortunately all of [gros canard]’s scenes (in this ep at least) are tainted by his turning violent during that one interrogation. it’s like they flipped a switch without a warning. et on tombe dans la caricature, comme tu disais… I knew they didn’t make david’s character sharper than your average suspect for nothing, and I figured it was for the dinner party, but turns out they were just setting him up to be the perfect outlet for anger and jealousy--il fallait un mec à l’air coupable et capable de balader la police. which makes it really hard to pretend that scene was simply some bad, ooc writing. (could’ve been different if there had been amends of some sort afterwards, when the guy is released… and tbh céline should’ve suspended him for real) bref roxane called it, [gros canard] est un flic border 🤷

now everything he does or says, I’m just like… yeah. wouldn’t expect any less from a grade A scumbag. and the GALL to stare at morgane and the end and leave without a word, as if to say ~you’re dangerous and I’m removing myself from the situation? that’s ice cold. and buddy, you’re the dangerous one here, if you can’t be normal around your crush or your antagonist of the day then take a fucking hike. 😡 pardon mais ça me débecte tellement cette fin ! I feel bitter. anyway. rant over.

Okay. So now we're getting to the unfunny part, and while I definitely didn't like this scene either, it might be for different reasons, or at least for me it didn't paint the rest of the episode as bleak as it did for you 😨

So. Adam's outburst of violence this ep felt clearly ooc, I agree, and especially considering what we've been given so far re his behaviour at work and in general. However, I gave it a lot of thought, and while it definitely does not add up with the image we have of him, it might not be *so* OOC from the show's point of view. After all, we've already seen Adam doing ooc stuff out of the blue, starting with kissing Morgane at the end of 208, and perhaps he's one of these people who bottle up their feelings and are in control 99% of the time but just happen to ~snap once in a while.

In that regard, his snapping after days of anger and jealousy (that he's unaware of) slowly building up makes sense, although not necessarily in the way they set it up, and not to such a dramatic extent. I'm not excusing him for what he did, just saying that from a characterization point of view, it *can* tie up not so terribly.

Now my problem with that scene has more to do with its setup than whether or not it makes Adam less likable. This was a textbook example of police brutality over an innocent Black suspect, guided by personal motives, but was never addressed as such. If the show was actually trying to make an extremely disturbing statement, they wouldn't have done better. I mean, Adam could have fought David during the dinner party for instance, it wouldn't have changed his own jealousy arc, but that would have made things much more palatable imo than him attacking his antagonist while on duty and during an interrogation.

In a more general way, I feel like the show has flipped a switch regarding violence and action this season that wasn't really called for. We went from des enquêtes pépouzes in early seasons to hostage situations where guns fire (depuis quand c'est la PJ qui gère ça d'ailleurs ? Il y a pas des équipes spécialisées ?), and I've never seen Adam's weapon more than during this season, so I guess this is all part of a more global agenda of darkening the show and the characters (I bet Audrey is missing her Engrenages era... But at least they had the decency to film police brutality in a smarter way back then 🥲)

Ngl, it makes me sad that you're now calling Adam a grade A scumbag 😭 I'm not gonna say he's got excuses for acting like he did, and like I said before his characterization this season is terribly written, but also I get where he comes from even though he's clearly hit rock bottom this episode... I mean, had he been a tad more self-aware these past 4 eps, we wouldn't have had to endure his surprised Pikachu beardless face upon discovering that Morgane dating someone else actually hurts him, nor would he have acted like a complete asshole. Sigh. What I'm trying to say is that for me this was more of a one-time fall, no matter how despicable he got, rather than a complete redefinition of who he is. At least I want to believe in that 🥲 (and send him to an anger management support group asap 😅) even though violence, possessiveness and jealousy are massive red flags imo 💔😰

I'm going to assume that his entire personality and set of, you know, human skills, was actually stored in the beard, because now that I'm thinking about it, it's mostly in the beardless episodes that he's acting nonsensically... Please Beardie come back! 🥹 Oh and I agree with you that Céline should have gotten him suspended! 100%! That's time-out for grownups and it would definitely have done him some good lol!

Now for this final scene of silent treatment with Morgane, I have a slightly different interpretation? At this point in the ep, Adam has gotten uncontrollable, violent, angry, and Céline rightfully reminded him that this is not the kind of behavior she wants to see in the team. I think it's the turning point when he finally connects the dots and realizes where all this rage comes from. He's finally admitting that he has feelings for Morgane (hence the 'we need to talk' to Roxane -> just saying, but if he dumps her next Thursday he'll definitely be the biggest asshole in the history of assholiness btw), but since he's still down that jerkland rock bottom, he puts it on her. He's sort of mad at her that she made him catch feelings that are clearly ruining his perfectly rounded little life, and that's, imo, the reason for his silence and closed face, and while that's still not cool, it's not exactly the same as the way you interpreted it.

Now, this will be a hit or miss, but there's a fic out there that actually explores Adam's violence during this ep by making it worse, and while it is based on this ooc premise of a scene, the execution actually makes a lot of sense and brings an interesting light to his characterization (also it is resolved in an extremely satisfying way lol), so perhaps it will be a cathartic read for you, idk! i commonly see it interpreted as snatcher n cc acting as hats parents and while that's sweet its not how i see it at all. i like them a lot more as her adult friends who take care of her every now and then but ultimately leave and trust her to handle her stuff, not taking that much responsibility. im not sure what thatd entail but older sibling snatcher (to hat) is kind of fun i guess. EMPRESS IS BOWS AUNT FOREVER THOUGH this im hellbent on.

ok i think i wanna talk about how ccs relationship w hat n snatcher developed. i always thought of cc as someone hat is the most verbal with, relying everything that's happened to her to him. while enthralled, proud and concerned, i dont think ccs that protective of her, hes shown to be much less responsible than people usually write her as tbh. she trusts hats capabilities n skills but still definitely recognizes that she is a child in need of support, and shes certainly warm and affectionate with her, but at the same time its not intruding or obligate, like a parents affection.

i think cc would be somewhat intrigued by what's up w snatcher because their behavior is so puzzling, probably especially so from hats retellings. once snatcher becomes a regular on hats ship (not his territory=cant assert hinself as much as he does in forest), where they probably meet, i dont think shed be intimidated at all, because i dont honestly think hed try to create that impression (it certainly didn't in the cut cafe scene. like, youd expect them to force someone to pay for them, but they're just kinda docile. they cant even get the people around them to answer their question lol)

i think snatchers like immediately completely pacified by ccs presence. i dont think theyd speak at all either. its lije those silent films where you have to rely on expressions and body language to tell what means what. its a little funny abd disarming because its clear they DO want to get something across, and thats a friendly gesture. it signals engagement abd cintact being established. snatcher would probably struggle with non scripted speech so this sort of communication would probably feel the least threatening. also would add to their already strange and interesting image in ccs mind

while idk how likely snatchers would be to actually do that ive been imagining him curling up in the pillows and napping only to wake up to cc sleeping either on top of or near them, since cuddle piles are probably common among cats + ccs impulsive. they probably would straight up forget to react. maybe they wake up to cc kneading them, make eye contact. one of them remembers cat social cues and slow blinks. other one slow blinks back. snatcher lies back down allowing itself to be kneaded. cc lies down on it. it changes position to be closer to it. not a single word said the whole time. its never brought up again but not forgotten.

uhh if they do eventually begin dating and hats there to witness it she probably wouldnt care much. bow would go awwwww Aawww though. mu is disappointed in ccs taste but probably warms up to snatcher eventually since they have a lot in common + snatcher mu friendship real and important to me

comfort movie tag game

it's where my username comes from! as a teenager/young adult who loved black comedies and film noir as a teen/young adult finding a movie that combined the two was formative and life changing for me and i quote it endlessly to this day and watch it every christmas

2) hot fuzz

acab and all that but this movie is so fucking funny. also a formative film of my late teens/early twenties, i also really loved deconstructions and affectionate parodies and still do so this is right up my alley, and i'm convinced both kkbb and hot fuzz has informed my sense of humor and will continue to do so

3) tim burton's nightmare before christmas

this movie was my personality as a 13 year old and might have been my first fandom where i actually talked with other fans and actively participated with other people. i remember all the OCs of Jack and Sally's kids that were made with amused fondness. also this movie used to have a bafflingly large and extensive wiki page and to this day i have no idea why. i actually watch this movie not on halloween or christmas, but thanksgiving -- it's right between the two holidays

4) who framed roger rabbit

i fucking love this movie, this movie might have made me give live action movies a chance as a kid/pre-teen because i hated live action movies for the longest time (like i hated e.t. and the goonies and a lot of live action 'kid' films, i still hate e.t. tbh that thing was NOT cute!) and as an adult i am blown away at the amount of love and effort that went into making the toons look so real and interact so organically with the live action world and of course bob hoskins is a king and he was robbed of an oscar nom, change my mind

5) the truman show

this might also be a contender for movie that made me give live-action movies a chance, and i can't even use the 'jim carrey is a live action cartoon man' excuse because he's at his least cartoony (at the time) here. i think i just like my comedies to have a hint of darkness in them, and a man unknowingly trapped in an artificial world for the amusement of millions is a little bit more than a hint i guess

6) everything everywhere all at once

i agree, this is a warm quilt of a movie, about family and the lengths we go through to achieve some modicum of understanding but also i am so SO weak for a wong kar wai/in the mood for love homage and also also i've said this before but i think people forget how genuinely fucking FUNNY this film is, like gut-bustingly hilarious

7) spotlight

OKAY I KNOW this is a weird choice for "comfort" since it's literally about the abuse in the catholic church and the team that helped uncover it, but i think that's partly why i consider it a comfort movie, like even the worst, most well-hidden things in the world can eventually get uncovered and laid bare for the world to see, and i guess that puts my mind at ease, at least a little what people decide to do with that information is a whole different story though i tag @electricxmayhem @spelviin @simplyfroggy @eels-eels-eelsrobot and anyone else who wants to do this

but like everything else? it just felt so shallow and full of itself. like okay wow white lesbians can fully assimilate into white male dominant spaces and be just as bad as them!! like okay, most poc already know this, this is a conversation that has been dabbled into for a while. and like fine, this is a film by a white person for white people, but even taking that into account, it still just feels like a film that's just talking without really saying anything. and i have things that i didn't really like or make sense to me like why is a supposed to be an up-and-coming conductor working as a personal assistant? why is the fact that whether or not she took advantage of her former pupil so ambiguous? and i'm sure there are others that i can't think of at the moment.

and like i can forgive everything i've said so far, but really it's the last ten minutes that just... but okay wow the fact that this is a film by a white person for white people really made itself known 💀 and like sure, i am a filipino who lives in the philippines, of course, i can like spot things others won't and be super nitpicky, but the portrayal and the implications the film makes of my country just makes me want to put todd field into a guillotine! like she has a big fall from grace in the western classical musical scene, at the bottom of the barrel is conducting a video game score in the philippines. like, firstly, is the whole it being meant to be the philippines but really filmed in thailand + that whole apocalypse now line meant to be some weird meta thing?? because it doesn't work either way. anyway, does todd field know that we have twitter in the philippines? does he not think in a nation that is one of the most consistently recorded as being very much Online, no one in the classical music sphere here would have heard of lydia tar? that no one would have made a post calling her and the event organizers out? i mean obviously not, based on how he portrays filipinos as being the ones stupid or not-in-the-know enough to give lydia a job. and like seeing it as almost an honor for them to have her, a white lady there, giving her flowers and a gift basket (idk how to word this it's just very colonial mentality). okay, there's two places the event she was hired to do would be happening at, manila and cebu, and since they went to pagsanjan (where apocalypse now was filmed) that can only mean that she's meant to be in manila. and so that just gets to me even more, because i live in manila, i have been to the nerd conventions, i have aunts with connections to the theater, one of them is literally a production manager in events!! and i say this because we see lydia in what is definitely a budget hotel room, then we see her at some random alleyway getting into a sketchy building while it's pouring rain, and then she's in a meeting in a very poorly lit room, and the scene where she's working in a karinderya. and like, the event she's been hired to do, which i later found out is kind of a big thing in japan (and that just adds to what i'm gonna say), would have been organized by people with money. and keeping the whole "it's an honor to have her" thing in mind, in real life, she would have been put up in a much nicer hotel room (i'm by no means rich, and i've stayed at much nicer rooms), they would have most likely arranged for someone to drive her to the meeting and the driver would most likely have an umbrella and would have held it as she walked to the door of an average office building most likely in a nice part of metro manila, then she would have gone to work in a starbucks. but no ofc this doesn't happen in the philippines it's a third world country, they don't know shit, and are definitely not known for their hospitality..... then there is ofc the massage parlor scene 💀 just really fucking disgusting all around. while it was a long time ago, i did write a paper on sex tourism in my country like i know this is a real thing that happens, but at this point, it has been way too many strikes for me. from the set-up, like ofc the man at reception thought she meant *that* (again, she would have been put up at a nicer hotel that probably would have had an in-house spa, also why did he have her prescription?? also we don't have those orange bottles here), and to like the scene itself?? like yes, a white person being asked to pick a sex worker in a line-up, excuse me, fishbowl (wow so oriental!!) in a third world country is a very appropriate parallel for the process of auditioning orchestra members 🙃

The Madchen Amick movie is wild because if you blur your vision a little and ignore her boobs she even LOOKS Armand-y at times. It's a good one for visuals of them together but if you want him with the most Molloy-vibes action-wise I'd say you gotta watch Sex Lies and Videotape and Crash. They're both perfect erotic weirdo movies, I could scream about them for days.

Omg I love tenet!!! Care to share your thoughts on it? One thing I hate is the theory that Neil was Kat’s son because just no??? It wouldn’t make any sense and besides, it would be weird given the weird (sexual/romantic) tension he had with the Protagonist (in my honest opinion)

So i managed like 20 mins of a nap that left me feeling even more tired and ive teied watching at least 3 shows and none of it holds my attention and then i rmbrd this ask so let me ramble a bit. Hope you're around anon!

Okay so im a slut for nolan. Literally ever since i watched insomnia (way too young btw) ive been absolutely obsessed with him and i'll always recognize his movies even when i dont know he's done them. That being said, i loved tenet. It was really funny watching it bcs me and sis had to pause it quite a couple of times where i had theories about what was happening and sis was like "idk what this is but i like it", and thats rly rare since she doesnt rly like the movies i like. She actually chose tenet for us to watch, and it took us two days bcs the first night we were juat too tired to make any sense of it sometime halfway through. I loved the way they filmed it especially, the reverse scenes were insanely good, especially the vault fight. The final battle scene, the way that building explodes? Mind blown. J'adore.

As for the story, if i dont think about the physics i avoid a headache tbh, but it was really cool, the way they tied in everything together. I refused to believe neill was dead bcs i am Just Like That, but sis clocked it immediately. I love the way it all ended uo being a circle, how it all had a beginning and an end but none of it was in the right order. I rly like the way they had to use masks bcs alveolae retain the air or what was it, that was a real nice touch. I also lowkey love the way kenneth brannagh keeps playing russian villains, and his shakespearean tendencies really come out in his monologues and his motivations. I especially love the way the whole movie feels muted, so it's not difficult to watch the action scenes because the colours are so dark, ans yet i did actually see everything, which is beef i have with modern stupid lighting in the movies. I kept teying to rmbr where i know the tall lady from, and then i rmbrd - the golden aliens in guardians of the galaxy. She feels and looks otherworldy, so it fits very nicely in the movie. Another thing i just remembered - the villains (i forgot his name, kenneth i guess) motivation being some men just want to watch the world burn, but more selfish, bcs if i dont have it nobody will is honestly very much how i think the world will end, as proven by megalomaniac billionaiers, may they all die extremely painfully.

anyways, i really liked it! i did think neil was max because it kind of fit on with the general theme of connecting all the dots full circle, thats a good theory in my opinion tho not necessarily true, and i do get that it may be uncomfortable for some people given the tension between him and protagonist (and how cool was the moment, im not a protagonist, im THE protagonist tho??) but i dont mind. time isnt linear :) and that somehow reminds me of doctor who and river and their storyline, so it just makes it endearing to me.

anyways, i have to rewatch it, deffs, if for nothing else then for personal staisfaction of catching onto little nuances i've deffs missed.
