a/n: if you feel like youve read this before on wattpad or something, you probably have.. I CHANGED MOST OF IT BUT STORY LINES THE SAME. it was originally about.. uh.. taylor swift.. WHAT WHO SAID THAT???? if you find any taylor instead of emily lmk!!!

You sighed as you stepped through the doors to your highschool, dreading the day ahead. 

Sure, you liked school. You had good friends, nice teachers and outstanding grades, but today just wasnt your day. You showed up in a hoodie and shorts that mightve been a little short but you couldnt care less. Your hair was pulled into a ponytail with stray hairs poking out.

You heard your name echo through the hall, “Over here!” Your friend Gemma shouted across the hallway. Her and your friends were standing over by your cluster of lockers.

"Hey guys," You began taking books out of your locker for your first class, Math. 

"Sucks we dont have any classes together today." Kayla huffed. "Still meet up for lunch though?" She asked eyebrows raised at you.

You would rarely eat lunch with them nowadays. Its not because you didnt want to, you just had other things to do.

"Ill try." You fake smiled. The bell rang and you slammed your locker shut before saying your farewells to your friends, heading off to your class.

A familiar voice called out to you right before you walked into your class. You spun around and were greeted with a face from your english class. You didnt know too many people in your english class. After all you were a freshman taking the senior AP english classes. (tbh idk how american school works so sorry!)

But this one blonde you did know. Emily had taken care of you ever since you were placed in her class. You two often partnered for projects and partner work. Well more like you do the work and Emily annoys the shit out of you.

"You do the english homework?" She asked a smirk on her face. 

"Im assuming you 'forgot' again?" You asked grabbing your backpack and searching for the homework.

"Something like that." She laughed as you handed over your homework. You didnt mind helping her, after all she was the nicest to you in class. She would help you. A lot.

"Dont forget to bring it back before 7th period." You warned.

"I wont. Bye baby!" She cooed making fun of your age, walking backwards down the hall catching your reaction.

"Bye Emily." You laughed as she turned around with a skip in her step. You sighed as she turned the corner, gathering your thoughts until finally entering your class.

It was finally 7th period which meant one more hour to go. You were able to have lunch with your friends which put your mood up a bit.

You were sat at your desk at the side of the room, listening to the teacher blabber on about a project you had to do on a book of choice.

"And you will be needing partners for this." He announced. 

You groaned knowing who you would have to partner with. You never got any work done when you worked with her. 

You glanced over to Emily as she winked at you. You whipped your head back to the front as to not let her see the flush on your cheeks. 

After your teacher was finished, he said you and your partner could discuss what books you could do. Emily stalked her way over to your desk pulling herself up a chair.

"What book are we doing?" She asked.

"What book do you want to do?" You asked back.

"I havent read many books." She shrugged.

"How exactly are you in AP English?" 

"I have a way with my words." She winked again. That stupid charm she has.

You sighed and used your hands to push you up from your chair, gesturing Emily to come with you.

"Sir, could me and Emily please head over to the library to check out a copy of our book?" You asked at your teachers desk smiling.

"Sure. dont take too long, yes?" 

"Yes sir." you and Emily said in unison.

You lead the way out of the classroom before walking the complete opposite direction of the library.

Emily shook her head laughing quietly as she followed you, sensing your idea.

You stopped at a closet with a title reading: Storage Closet #4. You peered around to see if anybody was around before quickly opening the door and pulling Emily inside.

"What exactly do you plan to do in here?" She said raising an eyebrow.

"Oh shut up." You said pulling her head down to yours taking her lips in a kiss. Her hands found home around your waist as you wrapped you arms around her neck. She pushed you up agaisnt the wall pulling one of your thighs up.

Her tounge pried your lips open, exploring your mouth as though shed have no other chance.

She pulled away for a moment before placing hard kisses on your neck and you groaned.

"Fuck, I dont think we are going to be able to do this project." You panted.

You didnt know how this happend. You never thought of highschool and thought you would be making out with a hot senior in a storage closet. 

Near the beginning of the year Emily offered to partner with you for the first project to save you the embarrassment of having to work with the teacher.

She would always flirt with you while studying, eyes gauging your reaction to her jokingly (not) flirty comments. She would wait for your cheeks to turn that maroon color she grew to love so much then tease the hell out of you for it.

Eventually she teased you enough and you built up the courage to put some actions to her words. 

Sure, a 15 year old secretly hooking with a 18 year old was definitely wrong. But you and Emily took the risk. She would only ever speak to you around people if it related to school and same for you.

In private you could do whatever you wanted.

You two often went on road trips out of town so you could go on lunch dates without having to act like sisters or friends. In all honesty you enjoyed the secrecy of it all, it made it all so thrilling.

Emily pulled away gasping for air. "Shit." She laughed, eyes wide as she rubbed her thumb over a spot on your neck.

"What?" You asked pulling out your phone from your back pocket and opening camera.

"For fucks sake Emily!" You half heartedly scolded glaring at the reflection of a red and purple mark. "What will my mom think? Her 15 year old daughter coming home from school with a fat hickey?" You pulled your hair back to get a better view seeing it went darker.

You shoot daggers her way before she smirks playfully and kisses the mark. “Thats not gonna make it go away..” You grumbled.

She laughed and pulled you back into her, continuing the kiss. Her hands carresed your ass as you moaned softly into her mouth. "Sh, baby." she hushed into your lips.

As she bit and tugged and carresed, you two lost track of time. She slid a thigh in between your legs and you whimpered as she smirked, again.

You started moving your hips savouring the feeling of your barley covered centre rubbing up agaisnt the rough of her jeans.

"Go ahead pretty girl, use me. make yourself feel good." She whispered into your ear before nibbling at your lobe. God you loved when she talked in that same raspy voice.

The kiss became more and more lazy, teeth clashing and moans and groans echoing in the closet. Emily was no longer focused on the kiss but on the way your head was thrown back, eyes squeezed shut and mouth slightly agape.

You began rutting your hips more and more rapidly, chasing your high. Emily bit down on her lip watching you get yourself off. Right as you were on the edge she pulled her thigh away. Your eyes flung open and your eyebrows were furrowed.

"What the fuck?" You spat at her.

"Watch the mouth princess. Dont want to get on my bad side hm?" She said towering over you.

You gulped and looked away at her dominance. "I asked you a question ma." She whispered again lifting your chin with a single finger.

Words were no longer an option if you didnt want to humiliate yourself. So, you settled with a dumb shake of your head.

"We’ll finish this at mine later, yeah? Lets get back to class." And with that she slipped out of the closet leaving you breathless, as always. (and back to class with no book and a disapproved remark from your teahcer)

life update

the meetings over it went by pretty fast bc its like 15 mins only and i didnt want to delay the guy when hes already running late. i'm just glad the dean's nice alskdjf he was one of the teachers i was really fond of during basic science courses and he's always been a pretty caring professor so thank fuck because all the other advisors would always just scold me/yell at me so i was ready to just sit and cry after the meeting

but it still kinda hurts anyways to be told "hey so like. regardless of anything else, you will have a very hard time anyways to get into residency because you failed the biggest exam ever for the career so :/. not saying its impossible but its just going to be difficult".

like i knew when i did that exam and failed it - which really, was like the second thing to a bad year last year - i would have an even harder time later down the line, which is why even last summer i was contemplating to just stop entirely bc i hated how the first four months of the year i was just soooo drained last year that i just couldnt deal with studying anymore :I call it burnout and whatnot, but to burnout as bad as i do with this time and time again, not having time to recuperate and only it to be detrimental to my future? its exhausting, really.

but i kinda know where i want to go now, at least. unfortunately. it also means having to 1) still study and complete this rotation in hopes i dont have to repeat 2) meet with more advisors anyways before i can actually leave

but tbh. i can imagine i'd still have to repeat this rotation anyways because it's been sucking ass anyways. at the very least if i finish this rotation i dont have to deal with the write ups and case logs anymore 🙄

besides, i have something sweet waiting for me after i complete the exam, i just have to be positive about it. if i fuck up the final practical exam ✌🏼who cares lmao my director can yell at me for all i care i dont care anymore 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

ok so . today (saturday), we had a test scheduled. HSK — it's a mandarin language test to examine chinese proficiency (think the mandarin version of IELTS) . yes I have a Lot of issues of it taking place on a saturday and in the first week of school, but i digress. i had accepted that this would happen last semester.

the examination takes place in a building just a little bit over an hour away from my house. whatever. ive driven to further places, thats not an issue. the test is scheduled to start at 9 and end at 12 but we're expected to arrive before 8 (to register our IDs n documents), so i wake up at 6 to get ready and drive off at 7. Not the worst either; i usually wake up earlier on normal school days.

FIRST ISSUE THAT ARISES. THE FUCKING TEACHERS WERE LATE.?.??? They were the mfs BITCHING on us to be early or else we'd get our names crossed off (meaning we'd have to Pay for the exam. that theyre FORCING US TO TAKE. I DONT FUCKING NEED HSK????? ONLY A FEW STUDENTS IN OUR GRADE DO?? LIKE. 5 IN TOTAL? IM NOT GOING TO A COLLEGE THAT REQUIRES HSK OR TOEFL. A MAJORITY OF MY CLASSMATES DONT NEED THIS. AND. they SWAPPED our mandarin topics from the casual one we were used to, to THIS.) . WHATEVER, YOU KNOW? i laughed it off w some friends while they distributed the paper documents to us. guess i gotta wait longer in line now because theyre late. whatever, try lining up for a ride in an amusement park, right? thereve been worse

test starts. i definitely flopped. not an issue, i already Knew id suck ass. my mandarin is INCREDIBLY limited and i can hardly hold a conversation (yes yes embarrassing as someone of chinese descent). a few people were held back because their computers lagged or shut down; fortunately, mine did not. laughed about my very likely 7/100 expected results with my friends. laughed at our answers (mine that was straight up ": (" because i forgot the pinyin for a word and couldnt put it down; my friend who wrote "我吃勺子" (i eat spoon); my friend who wrote "她喜欢他因为他给她一张纸" (she liked him because he gave her a piece of paper); my friend who forgot the word watermelon and literally wrote "我吃红水果用勺子." (i eat (the) red fruit with a spoon)

second test starts. its HSKK this time (speaking test). again, already knew id flop. it took me like 5 questions to realise i was meant to repeat what the speaker was saying into the mic for the first part (to clarify: the audio file does Not repeat for questions meaning i Missed those), and misread a question on the last that read "what activity is good for your body (physically)?" as "what activity do you like?", so my answer was "i like drawing". Laughed this off; me and my friends exchanged our stupid ass answers (some fun examples that i couldnt stop laughing at: when asked to repeat a sentence, my friend answered with her name; when asked to describe a situation where a woman is running late, my friend described what she wore; when asked "what activity is good for your body", my friend answered "my hair and face"; my friend who, when asked his chinese name, responded with "小妹")

30 minute break passes s'all fun joy and laughter. im in a great mood . amazing even.

fun heehees and hahas. great time overall tbh, even though i was for sure getting at most 12/100

and then Boom Im in despair

the staff entered the room and called 7 candidate numbers. Then he said; "Okay, you guys are free to leave. The rest of you, your tests had an error."

EXCUSE ME? 7? 7 OUT OF, WHAT, 90? ONLY 7 PEOPLE DIDNT GET AN ERROR?

WHAT ARE THE CHANCES THAT 4 OF THEM WERE MY FRIENDS?????

Went to bed late like 2am

The beginning is fuzzy there was a point I was in an art class which my bitch of an art teacher in hs and then I was riding in van with others and we like hanged out by some park.

Omw back "home" it's late and dark. I cross the street and start to jaywalk with another dude. All of a sudden the clocks on some buildings start glitching the fuck out, it's supposed to be 1am and they speed up. Next thing you know it turns to day then night then day and it's like glitchy tf out. I grab the dudes hand and we run for the nearest home, small 2 story abode, instead of knocking I immediately grab the handle and it just so happens to be unlocked and we throw ourselves in, locking the door behind us. All the blinds are closed so theres only a pale blue light from some idle tv screen to see. I start to go by the stairs to see if theres anyone home, and I can hear a girl talking to someone prob on the computer and she goes "oh fuck forgot to do some chem hw" and leaves her room quick, but I'm right at the cusp of the stairs so I end up catching her as she tries to go down. She doesnt scream just "wha-??" Bewildered. I quickly tell her to go on her phone, apologize, and say apocalypse question mark. We get back to the first floor and it seems the whole world is getting fucky lucky. Next thing you know the blinds open and its daytime outside but our phones still say it should be like 1am. The clocks on the appliances are wrong and say like 10am. We immediately go to close the blinds and fix the clocks. Unplugging some, that can be removed (ie wall clocks). Theres a tap on a window and the blinds gets opened, we duck bc who knows what's there. And it's some alien like ur old fashion movie grey guy. And with one glance he changes the clocks. So it becomes a game to avoid being in his vision, closing blinds and fixing clocks cause tbh we didnt have stuff to really barricade them. Eventually the aliens appearance changes to be more human like and he sighs and tries to make some deal with us, also explaining? What's going on. With dark curls and glasses he says how we have to keep up with the correct time or things will get removed, aka us/the home. He is one of many that was sent to observe/test an area like a small town. Upon actually looking outside the window, it's still bright and sunny. The entire neighborhood and town is replaced with rolling green pastures and the backyard with a large lake. It gets fuzzy so I dont remember the convos but we eventually become friends and just have to keep up the game with the occassional clock adjustment and the girl from the upstairs falls in love with him and were able to hang out, outside too no issue. In an p empty world with a lucky alliance.

I wake up n go to the bathroom so when I go back to bed the dream does a restart and instead it's in the perspective of what if this occurred just as hs was letting out where it was all kids no teachers. So it had us collecting all the teachers plants and organizing classrooms into some bedroom's. We couldnt use the outer edge windows for light but thankfully irl and in my dream my hs had a tiny courtyard that could be used. But the dream did not continue beyond this.

It had been gnawing away at him for a good few weeks now and, honestly, it was starting to get quite pesterous. The him from two months ago would have never even imagined himself in such a situation, and probably would've considered it a joke. At the end of the day, he had never felt such a way over someone else.

Now, it was his second time inside the dreadful building, yet it wasn't to visit Takemichi.

Ok. Level with me here. Im abt to turn 31. I work for the doj but as an analyst not a lawyer, and i want to go to law school. I just think that like. Im too old and mentally out of shape tbh. My current role is a lot of technical reading and data analysis - a lot of SQL and coding and API managing, not as much examination of substantive policy and im not a part of a lot of those policy driven conversations that the attorneys have. I did manage to score ok on the lsat but i just feel Dumb in a big way and its like. I couldnt break 170 on the lsat so im clearly not some hidden lawyer genius. I make (a very modest) 6 figures now and can keep climbing up the ladder in my current role but i just want to test my mettle and sometimes i think i can do it, but then other time reading about the realities of it im like god could i read 200 pages a night? For 3 years? And absorb it? And can my brain be rewired??? Obvi this is such a personal thing and you dont know me but like have you seen others do it as a 2nd career? In ur experience

I'd say about half my class was people over 30 who were coming into law as second careers. Like, one of my classmates was a nurse, two were teachers, and another one was a compliance guy for a factory? Like OSHA compliance and stuff. Not everyone is K-JD and that's okay.

I got a 161 on my LSAT, which is middling. Unless you're planning to go to Harvard, you don't need a super high LSAT score, and no one cares about your LSAT after you get into law school. I can't speak to the reading thing, because I read ~1k words per minute, so I absolutely would do some of my reading on the half hour bus ride to class. But most people are not me and they get through law school just fine.

Also, okay. There are a couple of major skills that you should either be decently good at already or capable of learning that you will need in law school and in practice.

Analysis. A lot of law school is "thinking like a lawyer," which basically means "take this one really complicated scenario and pull out the important bits and then compare those important bits to the elements of a law to see if they match." This is basically your entire first year. It's kind of like being a doctor: your job is to identify the important bits (fever, cough, sneezing, etc.) and the not important bits (what color their clothes are, whether they have a hangnail) to diagnose the disease (fever + cough + sneezing = cold).

Writing (which includes research!). You have no idea how many actual practicing lawyers I have seen who don't know how to cite a case or what a comma is.* I was a journal editor my 3L year and I actually had to have a "how to write an essay" presentation because so many people didn't know what a thesis statement was or how paragraphs work.

Public speaking. Obviously if you're planning on going into something non-litigation, like contracts, this isn't as important, but you should at least be able to answer questions on the spot without panicking and be able to be understood when speaking.**

If all of those things are things you can do or can learn, great!

IMO, it's perfectly fine to go to law school as a second career if all of the following are true:

You are comfortable enough financially to not be able to work full time for three years. This can mean scholarships/student loans, this can mean having a spouse who works, this can mean having rich parents, but you are not going to be able to hold down a 9-5 and do law school at the same time.

You are okay with basically being in college again. Law school is college except everyone can legally drink. That includes things like extracurriculars, parties, cliques, That One Really Annoying Guy In Your Class, lots of studying and taking tests and writing papers and all that. Also, yes, a lot of people talking about politics.

You've got at least a decent idea of what you want to do when you graduate. It's your second career so you should probably have a firmer grasp on what it is you want and how to get there than someone who's never worked, which includes what classes to take and what extracurriculars you should be in. You might want to throw in some stuff to be well-rounded (especially if you end up changing practice areas***) but having at least some goal is important.

All that said: you don't need to do it just to prove that you can. PLEASE don't do it just to prove that you can. Plenty of extremely intelligent people are not lawyers and there are a lot of lawyers who are total dumbasses. It's a job with a specific skillset, but so are plenty of other jobs. If any of what I just talked about isn't something you think you'd enjoy doing all day, every day, for the rest of your life, YOU DON'T NEED TO, I PROMISE.
