Hey there and a kind thanks for the ask, anon :) Your translation isn't off, but without the context, it's a bit wild.

Tausendschön is a german word, and it has two meanings.

It's a folklore name for daisy flowers (Bellis perennis) which usually bloom around my birthday. I love the name because it describes them so perfectly: a single one of them is fairly bland, but when there's a thousand of them on a spring meadow... different matter :) "I'm just a drop in the ocean, working together makes us beautiful."

The other meaning: The fairytale 'The Beauty and the Beast' is called Tausendschön in some german translations, and in some older translations, the protagonist shares the name (Tausendschönchen). The imagery of this fairytale with the gentle girl and the savage beast always meant a lot to me (to this day I believe they are the same person 🤫) as a person not identifying very much with traditional gender stereotypes.

To pronounce it, yeah, that's a bit hard 😅 A friend of mine recommends this: "ayn-TOW-sent-shen"

The most important thing is honestly just to have fun. Buy some postcards you think look cool (you can also find really cheap ones at thrift shops or free ad cards in some shops) and don't worry too much about peoples wishlists. It's nice to have the perfect card for someone but don't stress about it.

Consider putting some of your interests or likes in your profile so people know what type of postcard to pick and what to write you.

You will send and receive a lot of cards from the same countries and you simply have to live with that. Just see it as a chance to learn a lot about those specific couple of countries. It will make every new country in your collection feel special though, especially if it's a "rare" country.

There are also private swap communities on Instagram and Facebook, but they might be more picky and it's a bit of a different vibe because it's not a surprise. It's a nice addition to Postcrossing if you want to collect a specific type of postcard or want to swap more with specific countries.

Sometimes, a postcard will expire and it sucks but that just happens.

People love collecting specific series. It is easier to join in on this if you're from one of the less popular countries or regions. Common series you will see people collect include Greetings From (GF) by Postallove, Flags of the World (FOTW)/Maps of the World(MOTW)/Titina/United in Diversity (UiD) by Postcards Market, World Travel (WT) by Nisan, Blue Cats by Rina Zeniuk, US States by Loup Paper, Tausendschön (TS), Old Ladies by Inge Löök, US Wildlife by MN John, Max and Oscar illustrations, Lantern Press Illustrations. Some of these can only be bought online. I personally started collecting some of them, but I'm normal about it, while some people are super intense. Just ignore those people. You can join in, you can ignore it, you can buy some to send to people but not collec them yourself. Honestly, just have some fun.

Oh also don't put your address into your profile, only put it in the address box on the settings page. You can get a PO Box if you're especially worried about privacy.

Das Gänseblümchen - die Schöne unter den Wiesenblumen

Das kleine Gänseblümchen kennt eigentlich jedes Kind. Die Rosettenpflanze mit den Mini-Margeritenblüten ist ein beliebter Frühlingsbote mit heilsamer Wirkung. Sie sollte in Gärten gern gesehen sein. Das Gänseblümchen ist eine bei uns weit verbreitete und bekannte kleine, aber sehr robuste Wildpflanze mit weiß-rötlichen Strahlenblüten mit gelber Mitte. Sie besitzt sehr viele volkstümliche Namen. Dazu gehören so liebevolle Bezeichnungen wie Tausendschön, Maßliebchen, Augenblümchen oder Margritli. Im Englischen trägt die Pflanze den Namen "Daisy". Dieser leitet sich davon ab, dass die Blüten nur über Tag geöffnet sind und sich abends und bei schlechtem Wetter schließen.
