You’re on a Halloween date with Peter at a corn field and you’re freaking out.

You never expected you’d be terrified of just rows and rows of corn, but the tall, green stalks and the rustling of the corn is freaking you out.

“Peter, please don’t go far.” You’re trying your best not to get too scared, but with every rustle of the corn your skin erupts in goosebumps and your breath hitches.

Peter smiles beside you, kissing your temple as he links your fingers. “I won’t, babe. Promise.”

You and Peter walk through the maze like field, your anxiety worsening and when Peter lets go of your hand to check out one of the scarecrows it’s at an all time high; especially when you lose him in a sea of people.

Oh god. You stop where you are, hoping Peter will come find you, when you hear a rustling that has to be more than a breeze.

It’s rough and loud, like an animal moving its way through the corn field. It could also be an ax murderer.

Maybe you’ve watched too many scary movies.

The rustling comes again and you can feel the fear creeping up your throat.

Someone jumps out and says, “Boo!” right beside your ear and your hand swings out as you scream.

You know that giggle anywhere. “Peter that’s not funny!” You lean into him all the same, resting your head on his shoulder as your heart rate comes down.

“I’m sorry bug,” he rubs your arms, amusement lining his tone. “Your scream is kind of cute, I’m sorry lovebug.”

He kisses your cheek, your heart slowing a little as Peter holds you. “You’re so mean to your girlfriend.”

Peter coos, his smile poorly hidden, “I’m sorry angel.” He kisses your jaw. “Won’t happen again.”

“I’ll accept your apology if you get me a salted caramel ice cream when we’re leaving.” You try to sound upset, but you’re hiding a little smile and leaning more into Peter as you walk.

Peter laughs, giving you a squeeze and leading you out of the last bit of the maze. “Can I at least have a proper kiss?”

You pretend to think about it, “Maybe after my ice cream.” Peter pinches your side, more than amused with you, but the minute you get your ice cream and a tub to carry home, your cold lips on Peter’s warm ones.

Secrets are difficult to reveal.

They're especially terrible when you're telling something so tumultuous to your best friend, something that could either make him judge you severely or run away from you.

How do you confess that you're a thief? An villain turned anti-hero?

Even worse, Peter is someone you really love. Someone you know is too good for you- he would never feel the same way. But that's why you have Spider-Man, right?

You always knew it wasn't always going to be fun and games to be Black Cat. To be the very symbol of bad luck- it's a bad premonition.

You stare in the mirror. Peter will be here any second- he always climbs up the fire escape into your apartment's bedroom, and you told him you had something important to say.

There's a knock at your window, and you turn a little too abruptly.

Peter watches from the outside. He has a tentative smile, but he can see that you're worried, and you make the conscious effort to relax your face.

Peter himself is worried. He's about to confess something very important to someone very near and dear to him- he's Spider-Man, and not just that- he's having a sort-of affair with Black Cat.

He doesn't even know how it happened. First she was stealing wealth from banks, then a few months later she came with him with the notion to be good, and Peter always believes in someone redeeming themselves... but that doesn't mean she had to be so goddamn hot, all black leather and white fur, and Peter's just a horny dude who could not help but kiss back when she made a move on him yesterday.

And it was hot, it was good for him to take out some very human emotions by making out with her, but it wasn't everything. It wasn't you, and now he feels incredibly guilty. So he wants to come clean. Peter wants to let you know the whole truth, and even if that means you'll never like him again- Peter will never act on his unspoken feelings for you- he knows you deserve to know.

"Hey." You let Peter in, and he immediately walks in with an air of anxiety, hands already shaking as he paces around. "You good?"

"Uh, yeah. Yeah." Peter shakes his head immediately. "No, not really. We need to talk."

"Oh." You give him a look as you sit on your bed. "You have something to say, too?"

Peter nods, and you think it can't be nearly as bad as what you're going to tell him.

"Okay. Let me go first- I've been hiding something from you." He starts, but you shake your head. "I haven't been around."

"I haven't been around, Peter." You tilt your head at him. "I... I haven't been telling you the truth."

"Just wait. I'm trying to tell you something important." Peter insists, wanting you to know the truth but you keep going.

"I'm a bad person, Peter." You murmur, and Peter stops, interest piqued. "I've been misusing our friendship- you wouldn't want to be friends if you knew my past."

"No. That's not true." Peter sits down next to you on your bed, feeling that he should comfort you before potentially breaking your heart. "I'll always be your friend. Tell me what's going on."

"Don't sound so sure." You grimace at him. "I... I'm Black Cat."

"Huh?"

"I know, it's so terrible. I stopped with all the stealing and killing, but... I'm still not sure if my so-called good deeds are enough to forgive me." You lean over your legs. "I don't... I work with Spider-Man every now and then, too."

"But-" Peter tries to interject, and you keep going anyways. He's incredibly baffled- it's not that you don't match the size of Black Cat, it's just that he's sure he would've recognized your mouth under her mask. He's fantasized about your lips long enough.

"He kissed me yesterday." You admit, and for some reason it feels like a slap in the face to say, even if you know that Peter doesn't actually like you like that. "And I've always liked you, Peter, so I just have to get this off my chest, because I feel so terrible. I'm sorry."

Peter is snickering.

"What?" You shove him. "I'm trying to tell you about my actual, serious pain, Peter, and you're just laughing-"

He loves this. He can actually be with you, no questions asked, and you have to be Black Cat- who else would know that Spider-Man kissed you? Peter feels a little bad that you're clearly agonized about it still, and he is laughing, but he can't help it.

"I was trying to tell you the same thing." Peter shrugs, as you hang onto his every word. "Okay, not the same thing. But that I'm Spider-Man."

You raise your eyebrows. "Really?"

"What do you mean, really? What's so shocking?" Peter asks, somewhat affronted, still finding it funny. "Do I not look like I have Spider-Man's build?"

"No, no. It just... feels a little too convenient." You give him a pitiful glance. "Maybe you could prove it?"

"Wow." Peter shakes his head, stifling a small smile. "Why would I lie?"

"No, Peter, it's not that you would lie. It's just... it's too obvious of a happy ending for me, and I-" You wince. "I don't normally have those."

"Oh." Peter knows about your past, your unhappy origin story, and he doesn't want to say anything to negate that truth.

So he simply thwips out a web towards your desk, planting your water bottle against the wall, and you don't look too surprised, although you do inhale.

"So that means- I was working with- and you-" You try to make a coherent sentence. "We... we kissed?"

"Tell me if this feels the same." Peter murmurs, half jokingly, mostly serious, and he pulls your face up in the same way you remember he did yesterday.

Knowing that you were the one in that leather black suit with the white trimming stirs something more inside him- yeah, he loves you and he's so glad to have you here now- but it makes yesterday even hotter in hindsight.

No mask this time. Nothing to get in the way of you dragging your fingers through Peter's hair as he presses his lips against yours, not hesitant at all. His lips are firm, plying against yours, and he inhales in a way that screams that he's wanted to do this for a while- even if he kissed you a few days ago, it wasn't like this- and it has you understanding he doesn't want to be gentle. He wants to finish what he started.

He looks at her from afar, taking in the way her shoulders sulk. The pout on her lips that only emerges when she's truly hurt, and the daze in her eyes which seem to zone out, losing themselves occasionally at one point. He knows she's hurt, knows there are so many thoughts attacking her mind, filling her heart with green poison. Her own self-being refuses to help, instead mirroring many incoherent but nonetheless agonizing thoughts. He wishes to talk to her, to reassure her that whatever her brain is feeding to her already weak soul is not true. But he knows she won't listen. She won't open up. She has too high walls for that vulnerability. But he knows he has to try. 

He slowly pads to the room where she is, hunched over the table, left cheek pressed to her flat hand, writing words on a small parchment before her. He knows she likes to write. It helps her with the storm in her heart. It helps with the quake deep in her ocean. It helps with the cracks of her high walls that tower over her silly and broken heart. 

He is not sure if he is to intervene. To abduct her from her place, where no man and no woman can harm her. Where her heart is safe, her soul vulnerable. Vulnerable enough for him to touch, to see, to feel. And maybe, just maybe, for him to love.

But he does anyway. He goes over to her, caresses her hair. He doesn't peek at the paper, he knows she wouldn't like that even though at the moment she doesn't seem to mind, leaving the parchment revealed. He still doesn't peek.

"I love you," he says, not as a reassurance, but as a reminder. 

You are the one I love, it says. You are the light to my dark, sun to my night, it says. He is not sure she understands.

She curls her lips a bit up, emerging a faint, weak smile. One that whispers 'I love you' back. One that's grateful and infatuated just as much as it's faltered and mute. Still, it bears every single drop of affection she has for him. She is not sure he understands.

He drops to his knees, places his hands on her lap, and intertwines their fingers. His hold is gentle, tender and careful enough to make her feel safe, without the burden of expectations. 

Her eyes are pained, her voice absent. He misses her voice. Especially her laugh. Without it, he doesn't feel like it's a normal day in which the sun rises with her giggle and sets with her yawn. He wants it back.

"Talk to me," he begs, eyes filled with a yearning that burns for her, lives for her, and dies for her.

He is not sure if she will. She's not sure if she will. I am not, either.

But one thing is clear if you do talk to him, he won't let anything interrupt. He won't let the words get locked somewhere deep in you just because the fear of judgment has the keys. He won't let the tears get in the way of your feelings just because you don't know how to stop them. He will wipe them away.

If you do talk to him, he will make sure that you are understood.

“You’re strong, right?” you nonchalantly asked as you passed Peter in the hallway, not stopping in your stride to wait for his answer. 

Doing a double take, he sputtered, “w-what?”

“Come with me,” you kept your eyes fixed forward as you called back to him, “I need someone to train with.”

“Uh, okay,” you heard his footsteps catch up to yours. 

Readjusting the protective wraps your fists were already enveloped in, you soon rounded the corner into the gym, briefly giving each of your arms a good stretch to each side on your determined stride towards the wide mat in the centre of the room. 

“Alright,” you spun around, gesturing for him to step closer, joining you on the square pad, “no webs or anything,” you rolled your neck, a quiet crack resounding at the stretch, “just some good old fashion one on one, yeah?”

“I really don’t wanna hurt you,” he exhaled lowly as you raised your clenched fists.

“Well, that makes one of us,” you chuckled, not needing any longer before pouncing, landing a swift blow to the side of his jaw, “come on, hit me!”

A grimace briefly blooming from where you struck him, he groaned, “I can’t, I’m sorry, it just feels wrong to hit a girl.”

“Parker,” you rolled your eyes and vocalised the reason for your choice of sparring partner, “I wanted a challenge, so give me a fucking challenge.”

Your leg arced all the way up to his shoulder, though your foot barely even managed a tap him before he had somehow twisted you down onto the floor, overpowering you with his staggering strength. Thinking that was enough, a soft smile curled up on Peter’s lips as he hovered above you, waiting for you to tap out. 

Though when your palm reluctantly came down upon the mat and you both got back up, you quickly hissed, “again!” 

“You sure you don’t wanna just-,” his sentence crumbled as you cut him off with yet another punch.

“I said again!” you tightened your core and spun up onto his shoulders in an attempt to take him down. Smirking as you felt him begin to tumble, the celebration sadly didn’t last very long as you didn’t land on your feet as you usually did, his instincts haven kicked in and sent you rolling across the floor.

All the air in your lungs got knocked out as your body collided with one of the sporadic pillars in the room, an excruciating pain flaring up in your right shoulder at the impact. 

“Oh my god,” Peter rushed to your side as you slowly sat up, “I am so so sorry, I swear I didn’t mean to-”

“Peter,” you groaned to shut him up, peeking down at your dislocated joint, “I’m fine,” your laboured breaths filled the air, “just pop it back into place.”

“What?”

Squinting up at his horrified features, you carefully got back up on your feet and murmured, “fine, I’ll just do it myself then,” before turning to face the column and pressing your injured shoulder against it. 

“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” Peter winched, “you could make it worse like that if you-” the loud snap as you rammed against the post, popping it back into place, effectively shut him up completely. 

“Sure, if you’re an idiot and don’t know how to do it,” you exhaled as the sharp stinging melted into a more bearable ache, “you have no idea how many times I've had it happen. Still remember the first time I had to figure out how to do it on my own. I was on an assignment in Düsseldorf, hiding in this closet and I couldn’t make a sound…”
