Tashrooba (M&L: Partners in Time)
A shame that I couldn't fit in all of the Tashrooba's unique, more ridiculous transformations into this one drawing (I mean, it can transform into a giant bubble with a tail).

Shroob Invasion AU
Somehow the Shroobs have returned and are out to take over the world and get revenge on the Mario Bros for their defeat in Partners in Time. And since the Crew is still recovering from Puzzlevision, the military is...themselves, and Peach is still a monster at the bottom of a demon flesh pit, the Mushroom Kingdom is wholly unprepared to fend them of when they first arrive.
...What, not everything needs some long-winded preamble.
Some important notes:
The Shroobs are studying the Creep Pit and using that research to improve their shroob mutant creation process (you know stuff like Yoob and the Tashroobas that one Wiggler boss? Yeah now imagine shroobified versions of meme and crossover characters. Now imagine them with demonic bonus features!!!)
Mario, SMG4, Meggy, Saiko, Shroomy and Boopkins were captured by the Shroobs during the initial attack. Shroomy, Boopkins and 4 were used in the Shroob-Creep hybrid experiments, with Shroomy and Boopkins getting fully Shroobified while 4 only got half-mutated and escaped.
Luigi is completely missing and only Mario knows where he is, which terrifies the Shoobs given how instrumental he was to their defeat last time. So they're torturing Mario for information in a dungeon but he's giving them absolutely nothing.
There's currently only one Princess Shroob, but Shroob Culture Stuff demands there always be two. Fortunately, they've found a solution that also doubles as psychological torture for Mario since physical obviously isn't working; slowly transform Meggy, via gradual mutation and brainwashing, into a second Princess Shroob.
Due to this arrangement Meggy's cell is more of a luxury suite that she can't leave, with Saiko forced to be her attendant via a shock collar that goes off if either of them steps out of line.
The Shroobs also managed to get their hands on Melony's Fierce Deity Mask, but it refuses to function for any of them so it's just sitting in a vault
(I do plan on having Meggy, Saiko and Mario escape eventually, with the mask playing a large part in that, but by then Meggy will already be half-Shroob, though thankfully even though the mutation's working as advertised she's got a strong enough will that she's still almost completely her usual self mentally)
Melony, Tari and Hal Monitor are all on the run together, trying to not get captured or killed and to find Luigi. And yes, Melony's stuck in her base form
A big chunk of the Kingdom's population, including the rest of the actually relevant characters, managed to escape into the Internet Graveyard and are using it as the headquarters of the anti-Shroob resistance. SMG3, Bowser and Toadsworth are the leaders of the resistance since they all have leadership experience, the Mushroom Kingdom citizens trust Toadsworth, the bulk of their forces are from the Koopa Troop, and they're operating out of 3's territory.
The resistance managed to capture half-mutated 4, who's extremely feral and violent, and are hoping they can study his condition to create a cure for him and anyone else who's been Shroobified
(I should note that, due to the alternate method used for Meggy's mutation, if they do manage to create a cure it might not work for her)

Name: Tanoomba
Debut: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
Hey, remember how 3D Land tried to push the Tanooki Suit a whole bunch? And so they gave Tanooki tails to a bunch of enemies, including the Goomba! But they weren’t the first! Tanoomba beat ‘em to it!
Right off the bat, Tanoombas much more like a proper tanuki, ain’t he? The ears, the leaf, even a little white belly- without a doubt, it’s a mammal! All it’s missing are the testicles! Not only that, but they’re able to shapeshift! That’s something not even Tanooki Mario can do! Well, not really.
First appearing in Superstar Saga, the Tanoomba can attack using their tail (pretty standard stuff), or by transforming into either Mario or Luigi, attacking the opposite brother. Thankfully, the brothers’ bond is unbreakable, and they’d never fall for this kind of nasty trick! Regardless, it’s pretty obvious how this behaviour relates to the bake-danuki, aka the tanuki yōkai, aka the Japanese raccoon dog! But as Mario fans, I’m sure you all know this story all too well. I may love rambling about yōkai, but I’ll spare you guys just this once!
Mind you, I’m not a huge fan of the word “raccoon dog”... I suppose they do look like raccoons and dogs, but they’re a totally different thing! I suggest we adopt the word tanuki into English. Please donate to my Kickstarter!
Haven’t had your fill of Tanoomba? They make a grand return in Partners in Time, and what a return it is- their moveset has gotten a major boost. Not only can they transform into several new things in battle, but they disguise themselves out of battle and sneak attack you! Ooh, that’s just vile!
Here, they’re disguised as a Thwack, a very common enemy on Thwomp mountain! They’re on Thwomp Mountain, by the way. But that distinct Goomba face is unmistakable! They change back when you get fairly close, anyway.
A question block! The most tempting item for any Mario brother- but might it hide a secret? Yes, that leaf on top is a dead giveaway. There’s no way a leaf would fall that neatly on top of a relatively small surface! Probably?
For all the greedy money-grubbers out there- a coin with a Tanoomba face! It’s not a great disguise, but props for creativity. What would this be worth? A raccoon, I hope!
And the aforementioned new transformations in battle! Here, it’s a Spiny Shell. Not that interesting, really. Of all the things in the Marioverse to become, you pick a turtle shell? Go back to Mario school!
Speaking of not-very-interesting, one of Tanoomba’s other moves involves turning into... uhm, an orb? A bubble? A Dirty Bubble, even? What is this, and why! Surely you can think of something better to be!
Did I mention they’re on Thwomp Mountain? So of course they can turn into a Thwomp, which I feel is much more threatening than a large bubble. Funnily enough, this exact design appeared as its own enemy in 3D Land, a Tail Thwomp! Definitely a coincidence, but fun never the less.
Wait, Mario’s about to get squished! Watch out!!
And what kind of enemy blog would we be if we didn’t bring up their obligatory RPG recolour: Tashrooba! You know, I really feel like they were going for a pun here, and it didn’t sound as good as it did in their heads. Regardless, these guys are stronger, but they don’t really do anything special, and they don’t transform into anything unique! But they’re here, I guess.
And at last, the shocking revelation! In Superstar Saga’s remake, they didn’t replace Tanoomba with the more recent and generic Tail Goomba! Miracles do happen! Well, I kinda spoiled that with the gif up there. In fact, they actually appear alongside Tail Goombas in the new Bowser’s Minions mode, and that’s just lovely! As a Mario Enemy Extraordinaire, it melts my heart to see such different enemies from different eras, coexisting in harmony! Mechachomps still dead, though. Sorry.

Trivia about... Grandpa.
Full name: Drake Andrew Yazawa
Age: 65
Gender: male (he/him)
Race: Shroobsworth
Most notable details: all the typical Shroobsworth details (thick brows, moustache and cane), dark red lampshade-like fisherman’s hat with a few buttons and a hook
Likes: his granddaughter, Becquerel, gardening, pumpkins, Shroobified Piranha Plants, science, experiments with light, fishing, keeping others company, sweetened coffee
Dislikes: humans, the death of his son and daughter-in-law, black coffee, loud music, anything happening to his and his granddaughter’s greenhouse, hurricanes, tornadoes
—
“In the olden days, I used to be known as a somewhat mediocre soldier and mechanic who could still work quite hard and was praised big-time for that. Nowadays, I’m just a random hobbyist who occasionally sacrifices his free time to fight the humans among many ‘battle-hungry’ Shroobs in the Shroob Castle.
I’m also the custodian of my only grandchild, Jade, ever since two tiny but pesky humans robbed her parents, among someone else, from their very lives. I mean, they still had so much to live for, and human interference surely is the enemy of us Shroobs ever since!
At our home, it’s oftentimes quiet since my sweet Jade often longs to see her friends and actually visits them as well, but I’m also very glad that she also says yes to stuff like fishing quite easily, because it’s very important to bond with your offspring’s offspring, you know?”
-----
And, of course, there’s Bec(querel), who is actually Jade’s pet Tashrooba, but surely loves Grandpa as well, because why wouldn’t one’s own pet love the others in their family? Bec looks tough, but he really is lovable as ever and doesn’t mind some chin scritches and belly rubs on a good occasion.

Trivia about... Jade.
Full name: Jade Cassidy Yazawa
Age: 15
Gender: female (she/her)
Race: Intern Shroob
Most notable details: round glasses, slight overbite, traditional braces, white triangle kerchief with an image of an atom on it
Likes: science, botany, cartoons, sci-fi movies, ‘animals’, wandering, computers, astrology, pumpkins, Bec
Dislikes: maths, humans, politics, chocolate, school, being called a nerd
—
“I’m John’s friendly rival due to our intelligence that overpowers everyone else’s. Unlike him, others have called me a nerd back in elementary school, especially because of the large, round glasses I’m required to wear due to the fact that I’m also nearsighted. However, ever since discovering the existence of my iconic triangle kerchief that spots an image of an atom, nobody refers to me as ‘nerd’ anymore. Instead, I’m now the ‘triangle kerchief girl’ to most of the others, and Jade to the ones like Marcia and John.
Like Marcia, I also have no parents, since I’ve lost them to the hands of those nasty humans, but unlike them with their siblings, I’m an only child. I live with my Grandpa on an island that we discovered by ourselves, and I have a pet Tashrooba named Becquerel, or Bec for short. He’s quite mischievous and sometimes a little demanding and impatient as well, but he does surrender for some good food often.
Aside of an own bedroom, I also have a greenhouse of my own, in which I plant lots of flowers, fruits and vegetables, mainly pumpkins, which are my absolute favourite. Ever since first getting the greenhouse back on my old home planet, I gained so much interest in it, and that focus on plants eventually turned into me becoming a true green thumb.
At middle school, my favourite course is also science, but I also have my interest in computer class, astrology and certain languages. The most boring class is definitely maths, if I have to name something that’s worse than politics. And to be honest, I wish that botany was also a class in middle school, but for that, I’ll have to keep on studying until I can finally enroll in college, where they do seem to offer that as a course.
Oh, and I’m also very eager to do ballet and gymnastics regularly if I’m not focusing on school or botany. I’ve done that ever since the age of two and a half, and that may’ve been quite an advantage as I’m quite agile nowadays, especially in situations where Grandpa and I co-operate to defend ourselves from humans. I simply jump off of his back with a good spin every now and then, and flash my laser gun whenever the humans seem off-guard! Isn’t that nice?”
