i didn't know what to expect from tarrytown, but it's jeremy jordan, andy mientus, and krysta rodriguez together again, so of course i'm gonna listen to it.

i never in a million years could have anticipated jeremy jordan's first line being straight up just homophobia that's maybe also a bit transphobic, including a slur???

why is there a mildly homophobic (and definitely also a bit homoerotic) song about football in this sleepy hollow musical in the first place what the hap is fuckening here

Northern Tarrytown, New York

Kitty Van Tassel is the daughter of the wealthiest mobster in Northern Tarrytown--part of the area known as Sleepy Hollow. Among the bachelors pursuing the dainty flapper (and her inheritance) are rumrunner Brom Bones, and crooked city treasurer Ichabod Crane. The mafia princess enjoys being a spectator as the rivalry between the two men escalates, peaking on All Hallows Eve...

Halloween parties are becoming a new tradition in the '20s, and Kitty's father hosts the biggest Halloween jamboree in Tarrytown, serving illegal booze in pumpkin kegs. But in the 1920s, Halloween is more about the "tricks" than the "treats." Costumes, which are usually homemade, focus on concealing one's face for masquerade shenanigans and pranks, the latter of which get pretty extreme. Brom hurls a row of cabbages into Ichabod's head; Ichabod trips Brom with a rope across a garden bridge, while he's carrying a large load of liquor; and Brom steals a body from the local morgue for his final prank; none of which is unheard of for Halloween in the Roaring Twenties.

After a few hours of swing dancing and drinking, Brom entertains the party with the local legend of the Headless Horseman. The inebriated Ichabod guzzles it right up, which Kitty finds hilarious. Later that night, after the party has ended, citizens of Tarrytown hear a commotion from the forest. Ichabod screams bloody murder. His bowler hat is found the next morning, floating in the river; it's the only trace of Ichabod Crane anyone ever finds. The case eventually goes cold.

Kitty marries Brom soon after, and they get busy making strapping boys and firey girls. Over 70 years later, in 1996, Great-Grandma Kitty witnesses Northern Tarrytown officially take the moniker of Sleepy Hollow.

Ichabod Crane's disappearance has never been solved.

AN: VIsilually differentiating Katrina Van Tassel from Cinderella and Charlotte La Bouffe is more or less impossible. But at least her movie's Halloween theme offered an excuse to keep elements of her Colonial outfit, which is about the only way for even the most hard-core Dosney fans to tell who she is.

Anyway, if you want a true fright, look up Halloween costumes in the 1920s.

Found an old SD card with a few pictures from the 2015 Dark Shadows Fest at Lyndhurst. This shot looks so fake, but I assure you it's not. The clouds and the sun and the wind just all lined up that way for one dramatic second. Where the hell did ten years go?
