V. The Hierophant
Tumblr media
Medium: Gouache on  paper
Key Words: Conventionality, Institution, Tradition, Rebel, Maverick, Confinement
Description: For many women, marriage is an expected obligation to take on in life. Often it can feel inescapable, and to rebel against that expectation can feel villainous. The Hierophant is both a symbol of traditionality and institution, but a reminder these things can tangle us up, like a spider’s web. Whether or not we rebel and redefine ourselves depends on our perspective. Are we the spider or the prey?

The Four Tarot Suits
Tarot Suit of Cups - deal with the emotional level of consciousness and are associated with love, feelings, relationships, and connections. Cups are about displays of emotion, expression of feelings and the role of emotions in relation to others. The Cups Tarot cards indicate that you are thinking with your heart rather than your head, and thus reflect your spontaneous responses and your habitual reactions to situations. Cups are also linked to creativity, romanticism, fantasy, and imagination.
Tarot Suit of Pentacles - deals with the material aspects of life including work, business, trade, property, money, and other material possessions. The positive aspects of the Suit of Pentacles include manifestation, realization, proof, and prosperity. Pentacles deal with the physical or external level of consciousness and thus mirror the outer situations of your health, finances, work, and creativity. They have to do with what we make of our outer surroundings - how we create it, shape it, transform it, and grow it.
Tarot Suit of Swords - are associated with action, change, force, power, oppression, ambition, courage, and conflict. Action can be both constructive and/or destructive, sometimes resulting in violence. This suit can also mean hatred, battle, and enemies, and of all the suits, this one is the most powerful and dangerous. The Suit of Swords deals with the mental level of consciousness that is centred around the mind and the intellect. Swords mirror the quality of mind present in your thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs. Swords themselves are double-edged and in this way the Suit of Swords symbolizes the fine balance between intellect and power.
Tarot Suit of Wands - are associated with primal energy, spirituality, inspiration, determination, strength, intuition, creativity, ambition and expansion, original thought, and the seeds through which life springs forth. Wands deal with the spiritual level of consciousness and mirror what is important to you at the core of your being. They address what makes us tick - our personalities, egos, enthusiasms, self-concepts, and personal energy, both internal and external. Wands are also indicative of all things that you do during the day to keep you busy, be it working at the office, home, or the great outdoors.
The Four Court Card Tarot Ranks
One mistake that readers can make is to let age or gender hinder their interpretation of the court cards!
When we talk about age and gender in the courts, they are only useful as metaphors. For example, a page has a childlike approach to life but does not always represent an actual child.
A queen can be biologically male, and a king can be biologically female. Even though in most decks the court cards are given gender binary names, the court cards do not have to be interpreted through a gender binary perspective. It would work just fine to replace every instance of "she" or "he" with "they" or "them."

Some of y’all might come at me for this but, I dont associate aphrodite with the empress card??? Like? It might be because a “mother figure” isnt something I see in a positive light and that I see aphrodite as more of a patron than a mother. I associate her with the Lovers card.
The Lovers card represents choice and relationships. The Empress card represents maternal influence and new opportunities. While their meanings mean different things to me, with the Lovers card indicating choice born of free will in opposition to the devil card, or the empress card indicating new paths to take. Aphrodite is a complex figure.
I dont view her as a nurturing maternal figure. She’s cruel and without mercy. She can be kind and loving but for as long as I have been devoting my work and my reverance to her I can not say I have found her to emulate the maternal figures in my life. The empress card represents maternal bonds, and the bonds I have with my own mother are painful and complicated. It is a relationship born out of bondage. I was not given a choice of whom my matron is.
(All of this is just how I associate the cards. I have been doing plenty of deity readings with my makeshift tarot and she just. Keeps. Speaking to me. She wont let this idea leave my head. So im posting in an effort to get it off my chest.)

Despite his bad rap, the Devil is good for two things: a high powered career (his astrological association is Capricorn) and feisty sex! Most tarot readers note the similarity in design layout between the Devil and the Lovers. In both cards a winged being rises above a couple, male on the right, female on the left. Some of the imagery of the Garden of Eden is retained, the tails of the chained couple alluding to the trees they stand next to in the Lovers card.
The Devil frequently represents an affair or adultery. First note the surrounding cards to discover if this is the case in this situation.
Two common examples of adultery in the cards are the Devil plus the Moon as a hidden affair, and
the Devil plus the Tower as the shocking discovery of an affair. But if the other cards are mostly neutral or even positive,
The Devil can represent a relationship that is built purely on sexual compatibility. This may or may not be good for long term success of the relationship, but it’s a giddy stage to be in.
The Devil can represent alternative sexual practices as well. Again, look to other cards, or simply ask your querent, to see if both parties are happy with the arrangement. Problems with sexual addiction or sexual manipulation, current or past depending on layout position, can also surface, which not only are less fun, but can be a roadblock to a healthy, mutually supportive relationship in the present or future.

Today’s #damedarcy #aliceinwonderlandinspired #tarotcard is the #eightofcups I’ve always loved the part when Alice went through the #lookingglass ❤️☕️☕️☕️❤️ and I thought this scene in the book match with this #tarotmeaning Perfectly 🖤https://etsy.me/2ZyYjAF In the Eight of Cups, we are confronted with the moment of transition. We see a figure taking off to an unknown land leaving behind eight cups. They is tired of what those cups that took so much time collecting, and are now setting out to seek a higher purpose. It may be a result of a boredom or unhappiness that comes with realizing that whatever they have been looking for in life isn’t as pleasurable or as satisfying as they once assumed it would be. @damedarcy #witchesofinstagram #fortuneteller #cartomancycommunity https://www.instagram.com/p/B1jlCBhlQr5/?igshid=1j7t8q7peqsu7

XVIII. The Moon
Tumblr media
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Key Words: Surreal, Subconscious, Shadow Self, Confusion, Mixed Signals, Hazy
Description:  The Moon harkens back to hazy, dreamy imagery. The environment around her seems to drag and smear into her. Often when we are overwhelmed, we can feel disassociated with reality, falling into a distant, foggy version of life. Thoughts move aflutter around us, but do not seem to grab our attention. It becomes easy to be lost to the noise of life, become part of the background.
