august 8th is tarantula appreciation day so here's some Ts I've had through my 8 years of raising them ♥️♥️♥️ in 8 years I've never been bitten. they're nowhere near as evil as they're made out to be

I will never understand why some folks are just SO adamant that certain kinds of pets are evil, vicious things that are SOOO dangerous to have in your home and "What if it gets out and KILLS you?"

And for the record, I'm not talking about venomous snakes or anything (which also are not Evil Creatures Out to Get You, by the way). I'm talking about the idiots who respond to me having tarantulas like they're going to break out of their enclosures in the night, seek me out, and then bite me over and over so that they can kill and eat me.

Buddy I can't even move shit on the shelf above her without Dancer bolting to her web to hide. If given the choice every single one of my spiders would RUN rather than bite. Even mister Spicy Menace runs before he threat poses, and he has about as much rage as one can pack into a teeny tiny little one inch fella.

I see this about so many animals, especially the pets that are considered "weird" or "for freaks" (that was a fun one). If owning my spiders makes me a freak.... Really? THAT'S what makes me a freak? Alright. Sure.

People who are stupid and uneducated about animals have no business commenting on animal care or safety, but somehow they're ALWAYS the loudest.

I think it’s very upsetting and unfair that spiders are just objectively cool animals but they make some part of my brain turn into a screeching terrified monkey any time they move or exist in a too large form

They run off hydraulics! Their nervous ganglions all fuse in the center of their body! They have insane adaptations for prey hunting in many environments and styles, including vs other spiders! Web physics are crazy as shit! Too bad they go skitter skitter and have horrible little eyes

When I have the money I'm going to upgrade her to a deeper enclosure so she'll have even more room to dig
