We post regularly enough about our many Tuareg Tanfouk and Zinder “Love Charms”, that we thought that this post needed a #tbt revisit! Here we’re showing off both our charms created by Contemporary Glass Artists in Thailand from Original Tuareg Bakelite Pendant Trade Beads from Mauritania, ca.1920’s AND some photos showing off how they would have originally been worn (a quite spectacular sight!). (shown, $36 - 48) #lovecharm #tuareg #tanfouk #hairornament #hairaccessories #hairjewelry #headdress #zinder #mauritania #thailand #handmade #handcarved #glassart #glassartist #pendant #charm #shop #nyc #unionsquare #fashion #style #styleinspiration #hairstyle #hairinspiration #beautiful #gorgeous #culture #hairstyle #eccentric #bohemian #shop #nyc #unionsquare #beadsofparadise (at Beads of Paradise NYC) https://www.instagram.com/p/ByF3SBMBvqe/?igshid=1x8a83kxdwcd2

Traveler's Necklace
Traveler’s Coin and Amulet Necklace I love this necklace. Creating it took me back to my origins of falling in love with jewelry around the world. Talhakimt or tanfouk (the white center glass pendant) are worn in Mali and Mauritania in the Sahara and West Africa as hair ornaments and pendants
The necklace is adorned with two large vintage Kuchi tribal coins, ornate brass spikes and one large white Talhakimt pendant. The cording is hand cut and braided coffee toned Deer hide. The hand made clasp is brass, hook-and-eye and is not adjustable. The necklace is about 27 inches long. The center talhakimt is about 2” x 1.25”

青衣の民・トゥアレグ族のユニークなモチーフ「Tanfouk」~トライバルアクセせサリー
破邪のお守り・Tanfouk

These Bohemian/ Czech cast glass Tanfouk pendants circa 1930’s strung simply on a leather cord are just beautiful! In West Africa, they were believed to have Amuletic properties; The circle symbolized female energy and the triangle represented male energy. The Tanfouk represented the union of male and female and were considered a type of "Love Charm”. Used as both necklaces and hair ornaments, these particular pieces were created in the glass factories of Czechoslovakia and traded in the Western Sahara in the early 20th Century. #tanfouk #tanfouknecklace #tanfoukpendant #bohemianglass #1930s #lovecharm #love #sahara #westernsahara #unionofmaleandfemale #westafrica #amulet #maleenergy #femaleenergy #energy #mensjewelry #unisexjewelry #simplejewelry #uniquejewelry #quirky #bohemian #fashion #style #shop #nyc #unionsquare #beadsofparadise (at Beads of Paradise NYC)

The Sky of Obatala
The Sky of Obatala
Obatala (known as Obatalá in Latin America) is an Orisha. He is believed to be the Sky Father and the creator of human bodies, which were brought to life by the smooth breath of Olodumare. Obatala is the father of all Orishas (irunmole or imole).
I came across these white talhakimt pieces last year. I rarely see white ones and was very excited to acquire them. Talhakimt or tanfouk and are worn in Mali and Mauritania in the Sahara and West Africa as hair ornaments and pendants
Comprised of three talhakimts, brass rings, brass spikes, and cut and hand braided deer hide. Beautifully weighted upon the chest. Necklace is about 24 inches in length, has brass lobster clasping and is non-adjustable. Suitable for All Bodies. Purchase includes free shipping
