Have you ever been interested in getting into 'Aoppella!?' but you don't know where to start? No worries! I, Fimi and Haruto will help you how to start listening/getting into 'Aoppella!?' !!!

First off,

What is 'Aoppella!?'

It's a music media project centered on a cappella that started the 4th March 2021

It was owned by KLab until the 1st June 2023 and is now owned by Marvelous

This franchise is centered on 17 high school students, composed of 3 units, who will be participating in an a cappella competition named Aoppella!

SYPNOSIS:

The boys were enchanted that day.

Standing before them were ordinary high school students just like them. No extravagant costumes.

No musical instruments.

And yet, the moment they opened their mouths, ever-changing harmonies gushed forth, and the audience went wild.

"We want to sing like that too! We want to shine!"

'Aoppella'

is an a cappella competition for high school students only, where high school students who are fascinated by a cappella "unaccompanied singing" aim to reach even greater heights. Their performance is about to begin !

riruhapi’s name can also be translated into lil’ happy. but since idk if the devs meant this translation i’m just gonna leave it as the original katakana pronunciation.

otowa high is a metropolitan high school meaning that it is directly governed by the state. metropolitan in japanese is “toritsu” this is also where the name team toritsu or toritsu-gumi comes from when referring to riruhapi and “shiritsu” on the other hand, means “private school” and that’s why team shiritsu or shiritsu-gumi is used to refer to fya’m’

Suzumiya Hajime:

“my-pace” is essentially a term used to describe people who does things at their own pace without being considerate of others around them. in hajime’s case, he often causes some trouble to others by being so my-paced.

his name is hajime (means “the beginning” in japanese) because his birthday is 1/1

he’s in class 2-D

his hobby is watching game livestreams and he’s a big fan of a streamer named “zou” (the name also means “elephant” in japanese)

Tanba Rin:

his name is actually a pun—can’t figure it out? repeat it a few times in your head and you’ll see :))

the third section of his translations which includes the “clown” and his “comebacks” refers to the typical japanese comedy style of “boke” and “tsukkomi.” you see a lot of it in japanese comedians and manzai where one person intentionally acts dumb and air headed so the other can reprimand them as a joke.

his favourite foods are ramen, beef bowls, fast food, and basically food that he can gobble down a lot at once

his hobby is bike touring

what he likes about a cappella: it feels good to be able to sing loudly and it’s fun to do things like this with everyone

Shihou Luka:

luka’s last line in his character dialogue is translated to “i’ll always be watching over you” but the original japanese phrases means more like “i’ll always be watching you” if translated directly. even if it’s not meant to sound creepy, it kind of does when directly translated over so therefore i added the “over.” but basically think of it like he’ll always have his eyes on you (non-creepy ofc :p)

his favourite food is the vegetable-filled blt that his father makes

his hobby is going to the gym

what he likes about a cappella: he can come closer to being his ideal self through the support from everyone

others introduce him as the following:

the smiling prince

he’s kind of an airhead

he worries about calories way too much

a word to his group members: “singing in front of other people, this was something my past self could’ve never imagined...it’s thanks to all to you, thank you.”

Soenji Sayo:

when referring to sayo’s “overwhelming behaviours due to his wealthy family background,” i’m pretty sure it doesn’t mean that he acts like a spoiled brat. in this context, it’s more so referring to how he does unthinkable actions (like calling a helicopter to help search for a missing cat or smtg idk) for everyday trivial problems.

sayo refers to his twin brother as “asaharu-niisan” because due to japanese culture, even if they are twins, there are instances where the younger one refers to the older one as “older brother/sister.” and sayo respects the hell out of asaharu hence “niisan” with the “san” honorific

sayo’s name means “rainy night” in japanese where asaharu’s name means “sunny morning”

he’s in class 2-D

his favourite food is french cuisine (the specific dish name is too long)

his hobbies are visiting airfields (to fly planes I assume???) and reading

what he likes about a cappella: he can make the audience happy by giving form to his emotions with the people he likes

Anime Boys Make Sweet Harmony in Media Mix Project Aopella!?

  Get ready for all-vocal, close-harmony tunes from KLab's latest media mix project — the all-male Aopella?!

  Starring eleven voice actors and singers divided up into two units, Aopella?! is the story of high school boys discovering the joys of a capella music. Five boys from Tokyo Metropolian Otowa High School and six from Kanadezaka Private Junior and Senior High School aim for Aopella, an a capella music competition for high schoolers.

There are many words in many languages that has no English counterpart. These are a few, connected to love.

Chapter 3 Canon: Harry Potter Ship: Remus Lupin/Severus Snape Saudade (Portuguese): The feeling of longing for someoen that you love and is lost.

Chapter 4 Canon: Code:Breaker Ship: Hitomi/Sagashimono Mamihlaponatapei (Yagan): The wordless yet meaningful looks shared by two people who desire to initiate something, but are both reluctant to start.

Chapter 5 Canon: Akatsuki no Yona Ship: Ao/Garou (platonic) Yuanfen (Chinese): A relationship by fate or destiny.

Chapter 6 Canon: Magi Ship: Mu/Kouen Forelsekt (Norwegian): The euphoria you experience when you’re first falling in love.

Chapter 7 Canon: Tsuritama Ship: Haru/Akira Retrouvailles (French): The happiness of meeting again after a long time.

Chapter 8 Canon: Free! Ship: Makoto/Rin Koi no Yokan (Japanese): The sense upon first meeting a person that the two of you are going to fall into love.

Chapter 9 Canon: Donten ni Warau Ship: Naoto/Chuutarou (platonic) La Douleur Exquise (French): The heart-wrenching pain of wanting someone you can’t have.

Chapter 10 Canon: Rengoku ni Warau Ship: Tanba/Baren Ilunga (Banty): A person who is willing to forgive abuse/mistreatment the first time, tolerate it the second time, but never a third time.

▍About "aoppella!?"

"aoppella!?" is KLab's latest original multimedia music project built on the themes of "youth" and "a cappella"!

▍Story

It was on that unforgettable day that the boys found themselves changed. In front of them were ordinary high school students just like them. There were no flashy costumes or musical instruments. But the moment they began to sing a surreal harmony filled the air and the crowd went wild.

"We want to sing like that! We want to shine, too!"

High school students captivated by the art of a cappella aim for the top in the exclusive high school a cappella contest, "Aoppella". They try to perfect their pitch as the show is about to begin!

▍Cast and Characters Revealed

The main characters are an eclectic group of high school students who attend Otowa Public High School and Kanadezaka Private High School. The voice actors who will bring these characters to life have shared their comments to commemorate the project announcement!

Otowa Public High School

Comment from Ryohei Kimura: Aoppella is finally starting! Not only are the a cappella songs amazing, but the characters and the drama surrounding them are also fun and very compelling. Please enjoy it!

■ Rin Tanba (丹波燐) - CV: Ryota Osaka (逢坂良太)

Comment from Ryota Osaka: a cappella was a first for me so the recording was difficult, but I took my time with it and I think we made good music. After recording, they mixed the songs and I was amazed that it really was a cappella! I think we can deliver something that exceeds expectations.

■ Michitaka Kariyazono (雁屋園道貴) - CV: KENN
