Luka:

He’d been admiring you from afar for most of the school year. Luka’s self-image is low enough that he’d never planned to ask you out; admittedly, he got lost in daydreams about you from time to time, but you’ve got other friends. He’s sure you’d rather go out with a man that isn’t him, so he never bothers to ask. He’s completely unaware of the fact that you’ve been staring at him too.

One overcast day, the two of you cross paths on the way out of school, pausing to swap your shoes and reorganize your bags. You start some casual small talk, and Luka is oddly surprised that you even know who he is— you giggle at his bemusement and move to start your walk home, but as you push the front doors open, you’re greeted by the sound of rain pattering against the sidewalk outside. Your face falls as you dig through your bag; it appears you’ve forgotten your umbrella. Without really thinking about it, Luka offers you his.

Instead of just taking the umbrella and returning it tomorrow, you were insistent that he share it with you and walk you home; it would be rude to just send him home through the rain, after all. The first few minutes of the walk are quiet apart from the rain; the umbrella’s barely big enough for two, and when your shoulders collide, Luka gasps softly. The hand holding his umbrella is trembling hard enough that he’s amazed you two haven’t been soaked yet— and then your own hand wraps around his, yanking him sideways, and he’s sure he’ll pass out.

You glance over your shoulder at Luka as he folds his umbrella— you’ve dragged him into an arcade, one he’d been too distracted to notice. You ask if he’s got time to wait the rain out; he just nods, and your grins gets brighter as you pull him towards your favorite games. Luka is shy at first; you have to show him how to toss a skee ball, and he’s terrible at the fighting games. But as you dart past one of the dancing games, you notice him pause, his eyes following the lights as they flicker to the beat of the sample song. Then he’s on the game pad, dancing like his life depends on it, hitting every note with ease. When the song ends, you’re quick to pop a few more coins into the game machine, and he obliges with another dance, and another, and another. It isn’t until hours later that you realize the rain has been long over— you apologize for keeping him so late, and he laughs and tells you he had fun, don’t worry about it. Was that— a date—?

Asaharu:

Part of why Asaharu has been so intent on you is because you’ve yet to throw yourself at his feet. He’s always been given whatever he could possibly want, long before having to ask for it— and then you’d brushed past him without so much as an excuse me, and he knew he had to speak with you.

For some time, he’s at a loss; he’s bored with the ease of his life, but he attempts to flaunt his wealth in your direction anyways, hoping it catches your attention and drags you closer. Having fancy lunches brought to school, delivered by limo drivers; showing up on cold days in extravagant coats that probably cost more than your family earns in a year; it all frustrates him, not wanting to lean on his own family’s assets, but he doesn’t know what else to do. And it doesn’t even work— half the time you refuse to look his way, and when you do meet his eyes, you’re scowling. All he’s done is make you angry, hasn’t he?

Day in and day out of Asaharu yearning for you to at least smile at him, but you’re just completely uninterested. And then his brother Sayo asks Asaharu one important question— has he even talked to you yet? That’s the simple thing that knocks the older twin to his senses; the answer there is a flat no. he’s never said a proper word to you. And that’s why, the following day, you glance up from packing your bag to go home, only to find the boy standing in front of you, stammering his way through a sentence. Would you maybe want to hang out—?

Asaharu has no idea why you agreed. You don’t really know why, either; it was a bit shocking to have the high-and-mighty Soenji meekly ask you for anything, especially after weeks of peacocking and disrupting your days. Maybe that’s why you’d said yes. You’d demanded the date— he’d flinched at the word date, but that’s definitely what it was— would be on your terms; that’s how the two of you ended up on a park bench, ice cream cones in hand. Asaharu is well aware of your eyes on him as he futilely attempts to lick up the soft serve dripping down his arm, but he doesn’t mind. He’s finally got your attention, after all.

“little devil” is a japanese term used to describe a specific personality. the little devil personality is essentially someone who likes to tease others and toy with people’s hearts by seemingly giving them what they want but in reality, have no intention in doing so. they often like to act all cute to let people’s guard down in thinking that they’re of no harm.

“wicked-hearted” is translated from the japanese term 腹黒 (haraguro) which literally means “black belly.” basically, it’s someone who always likes to tease others and usually has an ulterior motive (usually to tease) when asking people to do something for them. haraguro can sometimes play hand-in-hand with sadism (not always) because the things haraguro people like to ask others to do are usually things against their wishes or things they don’t want to do (which in terms can make them suffer).

the student disciplinary committee is actually quite a common student body in japanese schools. the title sounds scary because i legit couldn’t find any other translation for it but basically what they do is make sure students follow the school rules and code.

his favourite food is onigiri (especially the ones his grandma make)

his hobby is paper craft and watching history dramas (from tv to stage shows, he is a total history nerd) (also i’m pretty sure history drama in this context refers to the samurai and sengoku era shows based on yui’s personality)

what he likes about a cappella: a way to improve one self and to sharpen his skills alongside his friends to create high quality performances

Nice to meet you, all. My name is Soenji Asaharu. I'm the acapella manager of Kanadezaka Junior and Senior High School, also the leader of a band called FYA'M.

[Question on the board: What is acapella?] This time, I was told to introduce what "acapella" is, which it's one of the extracurricular activities in our school. I think this is a great opportunity to show you guys a little bit of acapella's charm. I'm looking forward to working with you guys.

[00:44] First of all, acapella is not a music that uses instruments, but a music that is expressed only through the voice of mouth and body. Acapella can be sung in various genres such as pop, rock and jazz.

[01:01] [Question on the board: How many people are needed for acapella?] There are no specific amount of people in order to make a group of acapella. But I think, singing group in common contains 4-6 people.

Voice percussion keeps the rhythm of a song along with the bass.  We can say, it's like the "drum" of acapella. [Picture on the board: Fukami]

Depending on the group, there are also groups that don't have voice percussion such as Metropolitan Otowa High School's acapella club. Sometimes, we also do that, we may arrange to replace this part depending on the song.

Okayy, so as a concrete example of acapella, let's listen to "King Gnu"-san's "Hakujitsu" that we cover.

First, let's listen to bass part and voice percussion by Yoi-kun and Fukami-kun. [The music plays]

In the chorus, we have Maito-kun and Mitsuo-kun. [The music plays]

Lastly, the lead part. In this song, it will be a double lead with an octave up. Once we combine these parts, this will happen. Me and Akira-kun are in charge of singing the lead part. [The music plays]

Anime Boys Make Sweet Harmony in Media Mix Project Aopella!?

  Get ready for all-vocal, close-harmony tunes from KLab's latest media mix project — the all-male Aopella?!

  Starring eleven voice actors and singers divided up into two units, Aopella?! is the story of high school boys discovering the joys of a capella music. Five boys from Tokyo Metropolian Otowa High School and six from Kanadezaka Private Junior and Senior High School aim for Aopella, an a capella music competition for high schoolers.

    Appearing in the cast will be:

▍Story

It was on that unforgettable day that the boys found themselves changed. In front of them were ordinary high school students just like them. There were no flashy costumes or musical instruments. But the moment they began to sing a surreal harmony filled the air and the crowd went wild.

High school students captivated by the art of a cappella aim for the top in the exclusive high school a cappella contest, "Aoppella". They try to perfect their pitch as the show is about to begin!

riruhapi’s name can also be translated into lil’ happy. but since idk if the devs meant this translation i’m just gonna leave it as the original katakana pronunciation.

otowa high is a metropolitan high school meaning that it is directly governed by the state. metropolitan in japanese is “toritsu” this is also where the name team toritsu or toritsu-gumi comes from when referring to riruhapi and “shiritsu” on the other hand, means “private school” and that’s why team shiritsu or shiritsu-gumi is used to refer to fya’m’

“my-pace” is essentially a term used to describe people who does things at their own pace without being considerate of others around them. in hajime’s case, he often causes some trouble to others by being so my-paced.

his name is hajime (means “the beginning” in japanese) because his birthday is 1/1

his hobby is watching game livestreams and he’s a big fan of a streamer named “zou” (the name also means “elephant” in japanese)

his name is actually a pun—can’t figure it out? repeat it a few times in your head and you’ll see :))

the third section of his translations which includes the “clown” and his “comebacks” refers to the typical japanese comedy style of “boke” and “tsukkomi.” you see a lot of it in japanese comedians and manzai where one person intentionally acts dumb and air headed so the other can reprimand them as a joke.

Shihou Luka:

luka’s last line in his character dialogue is translated to “i’ll always be watching over you” but the original japanese phrases means more like “i’ll always be watching you” if translated directly. even if it’s not meant to sound creepy, it kind of does when directly translated over so therefore i added the “over.” but basically think of it like he’ll always have his eyes on you (non-creepy ofc :p)

his favourite food is the vegetable-filled blt that his father makes

his hobby is going to the gym

what he likes about a cappella: he can come closer to being his ideal self through the support from everyone

others introduce him as the following:

Soenji Sayo:

when referring to sayo’s “overwhelming behaviours due to his wealthy family background,” i’m pretty sure it doesn’t mean that he acts like a spoiled brat. in this context, it’s more so referring to how he does unthinkable actions (like calling a helicopter to help search for a missing cat or smtg idk) for everyday trivial problems.

sayo refers to his twin brother as “asaharu-niisan” because due to japanese culture, even if they are twins, there are instances where the younger one refers to the older one as “older brother/sister.” and sayo respects the hell out of asaharu hence “niisan” with the “san” honorific

sayo’s name means “rainy night” in japanese where asaharu’s name means “sunny morning”

his favourite food is french cuisine (the specific dish name is too long)

his hobbies are visiting airfields (to fly planes I assume???) and reading

what he likes about a cappella: he can make the audience happy by giving form to his emotions with the people he likes
