Call for Submissions: Windward Review Vol. 21 Myths and Hauntings

This is an invitation to submit your work and take part in the TAMUCC literary journal "The Windward Review" for the year 2023, taking inspiration from the theme 'Myths and Hauntings'!!!

IMPORTANT INFO: Deadline is March 5th, 2023, both journal submissions and flash contest submissions are the same theme and can be found here, and top three submissions will receive a cash prize, prominence in the journal, and two physical copies of the Windward Review Journal for themselves!

We would love both literary or artistic submissions from everyone- yes, even you- which offer a unique and/or personal representation of the theme!

Interpretations of the theme can include:

myth as recycled storytelling

myth as a vessel of culture

myth as either stretched truth or tall tales

myth representing our relationship to the land and its people

myth as something that follows you/ haunts you

haunting as lost friendship or familial relationships

haunting as places that don't exist anymore

haunting as a memory or experience

First family event I took my kids to on the TAMUCC campus was an orchestra performance. There was a CCPD Officer there working the parking lot in a CCPD uniform.

"That's that bitch that thinks she's a police officer."

Just like with the Corpus Christi Independent School District, the university police chose to bury my complaints for the sake of protecting one of their own.

I never took my kids to another event on campus.

making changes

trying to use this blog as a way to write and vent my feelings. life has been pretty crazy lately.

fall of 2022 i got my first college girlfriend and it ended up being a huge mess. it was good, there were so many good parts. we even fell in love. but it was also so bad and crazy and too much. and she broke my fucking heart over and over again. even after we broke up. well, every time we broke up. because there were multiple times. most recently 3 days ago. it also happened to be the night before i started my second semester of my junior year of college. which, by the way, i’m dropping out! never thought i would be saying that. also never thought i would say i made out with the girl that aforementioned ex girlfriend told me to please never be with. not that i’m with her. but yeah.

anyways, i’m dropping my classes from txst and spending the semester at home. i’ve been extremely depressed...and the worst part is i didn’t even notice. but school is too much right now. and i’ve also realized that i hate my school. i’ve been convinving myself that everything is so good for so long when it’s not. it’s simply not. and i’m ready to leave. i really want to go to tamucc. it’s closer to home and my sister and i could live together. even if we don’t, i just think i’ll feel better somewhere not here in san marcos. i can’t stand it here anymore.

there’s still a lot to figure out, but i’m getting there. i am.
