Happy Sunday folks! A simple typical Tamilian lunch done right! Hot steaming rice topped with homemade ghee/ nei to be had with Karuveppilai kuzhambu (a gravy made out of curry leaves), with beans and coconut poriyal, cucumber salad, papad to be followed by thayir sadam or curd rice! Curry leaves or Karuveppilai as we Tamilians call it has numerous health benefits but sadly we pick it out of the food and cast it aside. #tamilnadu #food #indiancuisine #tamilnaducuisine #samayal #karuveppilai #curryleaves #kuzhambu #homecooked #homecooking #homechef #homecookedmeal #homecook #yummy #yummyfood (at Bangalore, India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CEgn3a9DrUT/?igshid=1wjy84pwo1yj9

@Regran_ed from @the_girl_next_door_diaries - Diwali means time to shop, exchange gifts, dress up, meet friends and family, light lamps and celebrate, hog on a variety of sweets and savouries. Diwali is also a time for indulgence and excesses, indigestion and bloated tummies. :) To counter this, Tamilian households resort to making Diwali Marundhu or Diwali Legiyam, a home remedy that uses a host of herbs and spices. . Making Diwali Marundhu (which literally means ‘Diwali medicine’ in Tamil) is an age-old practice in Tamil Nadu. It is typically made the day before Diwali, using various natural ingredients, cooked with jaggery and ghee. On Diwali day, a little of this herbal ‘medicine’ is consumed on an empty stomach, before the feasting begins. Some households continue to consume spoonfuls of the Diwali Marundhu till the festival season ends. It is also offered to lactating mothers, to keep minor ailments at bay and give them strength. . Check out my family recipe for Diwali Marundhu, just in on my blog! . https://thephotowali.wordpress.com/2018/11/11/diwali-marundhu-diwali-legiyam/ . @kitchendlite . #recipepost #diwali #ifoundawesome #huffposttaste #f52grams #diwalimarundhu #diwalilegiyam #deepavali #deepavalimarundhu #deepavalilegiyam #lostrecipesofindia #heritagerecipes #vintagerecipes #traditionalrecipes #tamilnaducuisine #tamilnadufood #tambrahmcuisine #tambrahmfood #yaymek #mymagicpinbangalore #sobangalore #trellfood #foodiemondaybloghop #indianfood #diwali2018 #diwalispecial #diwalirecipes #indianfoodblogger #bangalorefoodies #bangalorefoodblogger (at Chennai, India) https://www.instagram.com/p/BqECS82hp3J/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1mzbpeft57898
