Well, this is kind of weird for me to post. Mostly because before this morning, I wasn't even fully aware of the progress I have made in the last 10 months. I was looking for a photo of my friend and I from the trip that the before picture in front of Radio City Music Hall came from. I came across the photo and was stunned. I can't believe I was ever that size. The after photo was from a my trip to Venice last week. I knew that I had slimmed down a little but I can't comprehend that it was this much. I still look at myself now and think that I need to lose weight. This progress happened in less than a year. I can't wait to see where I'm at 10 months from today!

I don't know if I have the words to explain what this experience was to me. From start to finish it was fun and it was frustrating and it was so emotional because it put a lot of things into perspective about my year abroad. I made a huge group of funny, talented, kind, wonderful friends. It's weird to look at a fashion show and think, "those people were having way too much fun with each other". It's something I never did and, going into this, I didn't expect to leave with such a sadness about it ending. It was too short. In 5 months I will look back on my time in England and think it was all just too short. I could never ever have enough time with everyone here and the people who modelled in and supervised this show are no exception to that. I'm beyond lucky to have been chosen to do this. I learned so much and I couldn't begin to thank any of these people enough for making me laugh and holding my hand while I tried to walk down stairs in heels and boosting my confidence and dancing with me back stage. They are all genuinely 100% the type of people I wanted to meet this year. I would re-live last night a million times if I could but at the same time, once was more than I ever could have hoped for. Love the 2015 LRFS family so much. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

The plus size model argument is one that has been going on for quite some time. "What is plus size?" "She isn't plus size!" Etc, etc, etc. As a plus size woman (don't yell at me yet), an aspiring model, and both a fashion and women's studies enthusiast, I've always had a lot to say about this topic. As all of these things, I cannot even begin to tell you just how thrilled I was to see the most recent plus size controversy, the SI Swimsuit Edition. Plus sized is a term in the United States that, in fashion industries and within clothing production, means size 12 and up. Just like straight sized models (typically size 0-6) are a thing, PLUS SIZE MODELS ARE A THING! When I say that I am plus sized, I'm not calling myself fat because I am not fat. The same goes for the modelling industry. Within the modelling world 'plus size' does not equate to 'fat size'. This isn't to say that I don't have my issues with these terms because I do, but it is so annoying when I say, "I'm plus sized" and everyone jumps down my throat with, "OMG SHUT UP! NO YOU ARE NOT! YOURE NOT FAT AT ALL!" Fun fact: I know I'm not fat. Just like Robyn Lawley knows she's not fat and Ashley Graham knows she's not fat and any size 12+ woman knows (or should know) that she's not fat. And if she is fat, let her be fat! Just like plus does not = fat, fat does not = bad. As someone raised after the era of heroine chic and "clothes hanger" models, it is such a relief to see people who look like me gracing the pages and covers of magazines. We still have a long way to go as far as the labelling of women's bodies is concerned but we have to look at how far we have come (don't get me started on racial inclusion in fashion though, that's a really huge problem). The fact that these two beautiful PLUS SIZED women were featured amongst other equally beautiful straight sized women is a huge step in the right direction. The past 5 years have seen so much inclusion as far as different body types are concerned. I don't care how plus sized I am, THIS IS GOOD. I look at the stunning photos of these women and all the comments are so negative. "She's not plus sized! She's normal! Better than all these stick thin creeps!" "I like a girl with some meat on her, only dogs like bones!" "If she's plus sized then I'm a whale!" These are all actual comments I've seen. Does anybody see what is happening here? We're taking an industry standard and using it to put down other women. That is the problem. The problem is that the American standard of beauty has never been all inclusive, not because of the modelling industry but because of the people it caters to. Out with the 'sticks', in with the 'fatties'. That's the message that girls are receiving right now. Not because anybody in fashion is saying it but because when a naturally skinny girl sees comments stating that she is not normal written by her peers, friends, and family, she will feel bad about her body. I don't mind being called plus sized because I am plus sized. What I mind is being pinned against other women in some weird societally mandated BMI battle that I never agreed to. No woman was born into this world to cater to an unattainable beauty standard. So I've got some "meat on my bones" and I have some friends who are "sticks", I also have girl friends who have more muscle in their left arm than I've got in my entire body. Flat chested, pot bellied, big thighed, sharp elbowed, bony assed, I know them all and they are all flawless. My thighs are not the issue here. If you talk to or about women based on their body fat percentage you are the problem. Fuck yeah Robyn Lawley and fuck yeah Hannah Davis and FUCK YEAH Ashley Graham and fuck you if you don't support all bodies.
