Fastest Growing Fandoms on AO3 This Week (06/19/2024)
Every week I pull data on how many fics are in each fandom and compare to the previous week, then calculate the percentage increase to determine fastest growing fandoms.  Since this naturally skews towards smaller fandoms, I have included the same data filtered to Over 1k, 5k, & 10k fics.
Overall:

I haven't posted in a looong time! But hello! It's almost been a year since I went to New York for the first time and saw Spies in Concert! I made this pop-up card last minute because I just had to!

Warning: this post contains pro-Clivesdale propaganda
Viewer discretion is advised.
This is where I reveal my true colours as a Chemist and give you Not So Bad from Spies Are Forever (credit: TalkFine & Tin Can Bros), rewritten about Clivesdale. If you have any suggestions please feel free to tell me!
Ever since The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals It is like everybody's still so critical. After what happened. But don't judge a book, just on its look. The inside must be examined. Sure, we've made some mistakes From small ones to great But did everyone have to get so mad? Here's my verdict No one's perfect Perhaps Clivesdale's not so bad…
One, two three.
People say we were privileged Raising the Nantucket Bridge. But Clivesdale is not so bad They made such a fuss But they don't know us Clivesdale is not so bad Our morality, unblemished We love to shout GO CHEMISTS But no one understands We're responsible, we're respectable, We've got the Cherry Festival Clivesdale is not so bad They say we're optimistic But we don't get apocalyptic Still they turned around and infected us We worked hard, bodies and brains To win the big game But everyone else objected So we never got the glory And you rewrote the story And I feel it from my cherries to my chemist. Once you get to know us We're not so atrocious. HEY! Clivesdale is not so evil.
In fact, Clivesdale, we are quite good.

In anticipation for the second Cinderella's Castle livestream and preview of the 80s themed soundtrack this coming Saturday...
(last poll) Hopefully this isn't too hard on you cause it is for me. Screw, why did I make it alphabetize. I'm having a hard time choosing between the choices.

Doing This
Anyways, I just wanted to take a moment to talk a little about part of why Spies Are Forever means so much to me.
Like many, many other people, I have lived some real-life version of "Doing This." I'm asexual, my romantic orientation is... complex, and after a lifetime of being taught a very allosexual concept of my own future, I really struggled to navigate what those ideas meant for me during my college years. Compulsory Heterosexuality is a hell of a thing, and I can remember watching the clock while making out with someone I thought I should, mentally calculating how soon I could end the evening without making things rude or uncomfortable.
(To be clear, no one ever forced me to do anything or was anything but respectful. It was all my own choice to follow a certain script and struggle on through discomfort.)
And then I would curl up in my bed and cry while listening to "Sunshine On My Shoulders" by John Denver over and over again. No, I do not understand that song choice either.
The resulting memories aren't... great. At the time, they further damaged my already shaky relationship with my asexuality. It was around then that Spies came out.
Watching "Doing This"... re-contextualized things. That scene allowed me to look at those moments of compulsory heterosexuality and genuinely laugh about them with fondness and patience for myself. And being able to do such a thing changed in the game in a way I didn't realize I needed. That silly spy musical that breaks my heart every time I see it also helped heal something.
So, yeah, thank you Tin Can Bros. and TalkFine for that song and those characters. And thank you Curt Mega and Mary Kate Wiles and Lauren Lopez for your pitch-perfect performances. They mattered. They matter.

Spontaneously springing back to consciousness because I forgot to mention the funniest thing from my partner's mandatory birthday rewatch of Spies!!
So despite my best efforts, he has NEVER seen The Sound of Music. When we got to the end of One Step Ahead he fully yelled "Are you fucking kidding me? That's where that's from???"
Apparently he's had "so long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, adieu, goodbyyyyyyyyyyyyyye" stuck in his head for the last 2 weeks!! I don't know what's funnier, the fact that he had a SAF song stuck in his head for weeks, or the fact that he legitimately thought it was something Talkfine wrote because he doesn't know The Sound of Music.
Of course, immediately after that came the staircase scene, so my brain got obliterated until just now when I woke up and remembered

When i was like. A Teenager/younger adult I used to hate drama in shows based on a misunderstanding that could be easily fixed by having a single fucking conversation bc they felt unrealistic, but now Ive learned that. yeah. Actually. a shocking amount of grown ass adults really would prefer to be mad all day than to have a conversation.
