i saw this ask the instant it came in and i could not believe my EYES. trust when i tell you ive been typing FURIOUSLY in the meantime okay. okay headcanons. -dave has always been a little genderweird and vriska putting makeup on him when she was bored one night unlocked his third eye and now he cant stop putting red shit all over his eyelids -vriska has also always been genderweird and you can see where im going with this. -she steals his clothes ALL the time -he pretends to hate it when she gets her disgusting $5 perfume stink all over said clothes but you know he loves that shit (and she knows it too) -flaming bisexuals -once theyve been together for a while they are THE most "i am going to have the longest silent conversation with someone across the room you have ever seen in your life" -they both think they can read each other like a book but in truth its only about 60-70% accurate -the inaccuracies are always funny as fuck though and 9 times out of 10 its some entirely off the wall MADNESS due to their upbringings they think is entirely normal. the conversations that directly follow these revelations are legendary amongst the extended crew and every single one thats happened in a public memo has been screenshotted by basically everyone they know -speaking of which. i dont think they dm for basically anything ever. they either have conversations right in the GC (sometimes in the middle of other conversations, which karkat fucking HATES, especially when they flirt with each other) or they speak in person/over the phone. no in between -they flirt with each other all the time and its disgusting but its incomprehensible to literally everyone else. vriska tells dave she found some gnarly roadkill and sends coordinates and dave is like "babe stop not in front of everybody" -she used to send pictures too but that got shut down real quick and now thats really all she dms him for -i dont think vriska likes it for the same reasons dave does but he did absolutely get her into the weird and wacky world of vulture culture. dave likes the wet specimens the most but vriskas a fan of bones and taxidermy -speaking of which. this is more vriska/troll-centric but i love the idea of vriska being able to eat bones. dave gets the same schoolboy "oh my god this is so cool" kick out of it every single time -im well aware that music is a time thing but i genuinely cannot comprehend a world wherein vriska is not a music girlie. this definitely did a lot of the heavy lifting in The Early Days because when youre emotionally constipated sometimes you gotta let a song do the talking FOR you -vriska 100% introduced dave to crunkcore and he got way more into it than she ever did. he listens to 3oh3 religiously -dave samples vriska on his tracks all the time because she CANNOT shut the fuck up. he also likes taking pictures of her but even after years together he still kinda keeps those to himself and gets flustered when she finds one -man i just really love the idea of them being fucking obsessed with each other. they rag on each other ALL the time because thats just how they feel the most comfortable being affectionate but at the end of the day they snuggle up all soft and quiet and just enjoy being with somebody who understands how hard it can be to even allow that to happen in the first place -they ARE super casually affectionate with each other though, even in group settings. i dont think theyd like grand pda like kissing or saying 'i love you' in public but personal space just doesnt really exist for them. they hang off each other and sling legs over laps all willy nilly -they also stim on each other. dave likes to play with her hair while hes talking and vriska likes to play with his hands/fingers when shes bored this post is so LONG i could keep going for days. please always ask me about davris, especially if youve got more specific questions!!!

the basic premise of the au is it's a davesolkat space/rebellion au where sollux and karkat have a cargo ship called the abraxas where they shuttle cargo and also all of their close friends happen to be revolutionaries.

dave lives in a place called hephaestus which is a wildspace outpost primarily populated by mechanics and engineers. he lives and works with equius and nepeta.

dave and sollux meet at a bar when sollux and karkat come to hephaestus for equius' help with the ship and dave spends like half an hour infodumping about how cool he finds the abraxas to sollux, not know sollux is its pilot.

theres a lot more going on generally in the au and also with it's worldbuilding but its something ive been brainrotting on recently.

"Let me see it." Doffy commanded. He was at least a little pleased when Trebol didn't argue, and instead began slowly unwinding the bandages that covered half his face. 

This was the first time that they'd been alone together since Crocodile had rescued Doffy from marine custody earlier that day. It was the first time they'd been alone together since the disaster in Dressrosa. It was the first opportunity that Doffy had had to assess the damage.

Setting the bandages aside, Trebol held away his long, thick dark hair so that Doffy could get a good view of the pale, pink burned skin across his face.

"It could have been a lot worse," Doffy admitted. He brushed his fingers over the unbroken skin of Trebol's jaw, just under the burn. It was already starting to heal only a week or so after the injury.

"Do you think it will scar?" Trebol asked, cocking his head. There was a little smirk on his broad lips and Doffy knew why. The scene echoed one that had passed between them long ago, but in reverse. The day that Trebol had tended the burn wound that had destroyed Doffy's eye.

"Maybe a little," Doffy shrugged. He ran his thumb over Trebol's chin, just along the edges of his carefully trimmed beard. "But probably not, you lucky old fool. That was not one of your more intelligent stunts. What the hell were you thinking?"

"I wanted you to win," Trebol said, holding up his hands. During the fight Law had been goading him, until Trebol set off a big fucking explosion, practically in his own fucking face. He had the grace to look a little sheepish about it. He wouldn't say so, but Doffy was sure other motivations included humiliation and panic. Doffy wasn't going to let him off easy though.

"You wanted me to win," he repeated, putting his hands on his hips and looping up at Trebol imperiously. "Did you consider that you could have fucking died?"

"Hey, hey, you know I'd die for you, Doffy!" Trebol smiled widely at him, like that was supposed to help.

Doffy's threads shot out and looped around Trebol's coat– an old one, salvaged from some family stockpile to replace the one that had been ruined– and he pulled his old mentor down close to him so that they were nose to nose.

"Have you fucking considered that I don't want you to die?" 

It was Trebol himself who had schooled Doffy in the art of warfare. Had made him a student of the art of leadership. Had drilled into him from a young age that a general and a king must accept losses. That sometimes a sacrifice was the best strategy in the long term.

Trebol's teachings were wise And Doffy knew that he was right. And he hated it. He hated every sacrifice he'd ever had to make in his family. Doffy was a selfish, jealous beast of a man, and the loss of a precious family member was like the loss of one of his own limbs. Keenly felt and maddening.

Sacrifices might need to be made, but he did not want to make them. And he sure as hell wasn't going to let Trebol talk like that when all of the family's recent sacrifices had been completely in vain.

Trebol must have read something of the level of his anger in Doffy's face– unsurprising, since he'd been good at reading him since he was a child– because his smile immediately vanished and he put his soft hands on Doffy's chest.

"Hey, hey, Doffy, I'm sorry, I–"

Doffy didn't let him finish. "We already lost Monet! We very fucking nearly lost Vergo! And you were just going to throw your life away for me, Trebol? Do you think I could keep going if I lost all my executives?"

"Of course you could, Doffy, you're–"

He cut Trebol off again. "Well I sure as hell wouldn't want to!"

Doflamingo dropped his head against Trebol's chest and he felt hot tears leak out under his glasses as his breath went ragged.

"Oh… Oh Doffy…" Trebol stroked his hair gently. "I'm sorry."

Doffy slipped his arms under Trebol's coat and wrapped them around his waist, pulling him close. "You had fucking better be. Don't ever pull another stunt like that again, do you understand?"

"Of course, Doffy. I promise."

Doffy leaned against his chest for a long moment, hugging him and letting him pet his hair until he felt the tears finally stop flowing. He straightened up, and Trebol offered him one of his handkerchiefs to wipe his face.

"Let me help you put on some fresh bandages."

Trebol obliged him graciously, and Doffy carefully daubed salve on the wounds, and wrapped the healing burn like Trebol had once done for him. Afterward, they traded swigs from a bottle, sweetening their mouths with wine, and trying to forget about the argument.

Doffy climbed into his lap, and Trebol put his arms around him. He was glad that as tall as he'd grown, he'd never outgrown Trebol's lap.

"You scared me," he murmured.

"I'll apologize as many times as you need me to, Doffy."

Doffy reached up and tugged on a lock of his hair. "It's going to be a lot. I'm very cross with you."

Trebol smiled indulgently. "I'm sorry, Doffy."

"That's a good start." He took another long sip of wine, and leaned upward, putting his arms around Trebol's neck and pulling him into a long familiar kiss. Partners in crime for 30 years. His beloved executive. His mentor. His family.

Trebol rested his forehead against Doffy's. "You'll forgive me, won't you? For being a little bit stupid?"

He laughed softly. "It's not an unforgivable sin. I already told you, I don't know what I'd do without you, stupid old man."

"Alright, alright, young master, I understand." He chuckled along with him, and Doffy nuzzled against his hand as he started to pet his hair again.

"Do you? A world without you would be even more miserable and unbearable than the world we've already got." He poked his finger against Trebol's chest.

"Would it? Then I couldn't forgive myself for doing that to you. I'm sorry."

"If you think I'm counting apologies, you're right."

They laughed together, and they drained the bottle of wine, and they talked about plans for revenge, and to restore the glory of the Donquixote pirates. And Doffy was so, so glad that they were both there to do that.

He was going to make Trebol apologize a lot more.

confusing you both and making you ask him if he's serious

to which he immediately cuts himself off and apologizes as if he just kicked a puppy

sometimes kneeling down to properly apologize is he takes things too far

If you have a collection of insects he is eager to see it

the first time you visited his room he immediately dragged you to his shelf to show you some sick bugs he has on amber or preserved in alcohol

Dave then listens attentively as you tell him about what kind of bug it is and what's their niche in the food chain

once you're done he tells you about how he found it behind the toiled after hearing Bro scream like a baby from getting spooked by it

If you have an ant farm or a bioactive enclosure with roly-polies and springtails Dave will practically beg you to let him feed them

just be careful since he will try to feed them pizza or some old candy he found in his pocket

and instead of water he'll give them apple juice thinking it's way better because he's watering and feeding them at the same time

You have to explain that that's the weirdest and stupidest idea you ever heard, but you sometimes let him put a drop of Aj in a bottle cap as a treat to your bugs
