I covered CCR's "Long As I Can See the Light" for Hulu's new mini-series "We Were the Lucky Ones." Thank you to Alex and Tommy at The Crystal Creative for asking me to sing on this, and to Tal Richards for an epic instrumental production.

Author’s Note: Hi there! 💕 This was a bit unexpected, but with everything going on in my life right now ( work and anxiety)I felt the need to escape for a bit, and this idea just came to me today! I’m thinking about turning it into a series, but I’m not sure yet. Let’s see where it takes us!
Word count: 2,9K
Warnings: angst, innocent, mention of intercourse.
Summary: Elvis ends up looking after his ex-wife’s niece (18yo) and helps her deal with heartbreak, all while they slowly start to connect.
Dontcha’ think It’s time
The room was still, save for the faint hum of the air conditioner and the soft clink of ice in a lowball glass. Elvis sat on the edge of an armchair, shoulders slightly hunched, staring at the amber liquid swirling in his whiskey. His brow furrowed, his lips pressed in a tight line, lost in thought.
It wasn’t often to see him like this, especially with a drink in hand. Elvis wasn’t much of a drinker, but tonight, something had pulled him to the crystal decanter on the bar. Something was not right.
Jerry Schilling leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed, watching with quiet amusement. After a moment, he raised an eyebrow. “Don’t tell me you cracked open the scotch, E?”
Elvis blinked, pulling himself from his thoughts. He didn’t look at Jerry, his gaze shifting instead to the window where the fading sunlight streaked orange across the glass. “At what damn point… did I agree to this?”
Jerry stepped closer, curiosity piqued. “You gonna spell it out for me, or am I supposed to guess?”
Elvis exhaled, setting the glass down with a soft clink. “This whole thing. Her comin’ here. Watchin’ over her. I don’t even remember agreein’ to it, but I must’ve, ‘cause here I am.”
“Her?” Jerry asked, though he already knew. “Your niece?”
Elvis leaned back, rubbing a hand across his face. “My ex-wife’s niece. Don’t get me wrong, Jerry. I’ve got nothin’ against the little girl, but…”
“But it’s about the divorce, right?” Jerry cut in. “All this was agreed before…”
“‘Fore things went to hell” Elvis finished, his voice tight. “We don’t even talk no more, and still, her aunt’s gonna haunt me till the day I die.”
Jerry chuckled. “Her aunt’s the mother of your daughter, E. You’re not gonna shake that off so easy. Think of it this way: at least Lisa will have her cousin here for a while.”
Before Elvis could reply, the low rumble of a car engine drifted up the driveway. He glanced at Jerry, who was already grinning.
“Well” Jerry said, clapping his hands, “guess it’s showtime. You want me to roll out the welcome mat or grab you a second glass of that scotch?”
Elvis stood, adjusting his shirt with a smirk. “Neither. But you might wanna stick close, Jer. If this goes south, I’ll need a witness.”
The front door opened, and Elvis stood there with Jerry just behind him. Elvis’s signature smile was firmly in place, though his sharp eyes betrayed a hint of impatience.
“Tom” Elvis greeted smoothly. “Y’all made it.”
Tom stepped inside, his expression tight and his tone clipped. “Yeah, we made it. Thanks for takin’ her in for a while.”
Elvis shrugged lightly, gesturing them in. “Sure thing. Anything for family.”
Tom raised an eyebrow, his voice sharpening. “Funny. Didn’t feel like family when you walked out on my sister.”
Jerry let out a low whistle, crossing his arms as his gaze shifted between the two men. “Ouch.”
Elvis’s smile didn’t flinch, but his eyes narrowed just slightly. Before he could answer, Tom’s wife stepped forward, her tone bright and full of forced cheer.
“Elvis, thank you so much” she said quickly, glancing nervously at Tom. “We really had no other option. This business trip is going to be tough on her, and we’re so grateful you’re helping us out.”
Elvis nodded, glancing around. “Where’s my little one?” His eyes narrowed in confusion when he looked further. “And what’s this about bringin’ a babysitter?”
Tom smirked, stepping aside. “That is your little one.”
You stepped forward, and Elvis blinked, staring surprised. You were taller than he remembered, with a striking presence that didn’t match the childish dress you wore, like someone old enough for teenage clothes but still stuck in something meant for a little girl.
“Well, I’ll be damned” Elvis muttered, his tone quieter now.
“Hi, Uncle Elvis” you said softly, your voice polite as your gaze flickered between him and the floor. You were excited to see him after such a long time, he was someone you’d always admired, but your mind was occupied with other thoughts.
Tom added, his tone clipped. “She grew up, Elvis. Happens to kids when you don’t see them for years.”
Jerry tried to contain his feelings, muttering under his breath “This just keeps gettin’ better.”
Elvis ignored Tom’s jab, forcing his easy grin back. “Well, guess I owe ya an apology, darlin’. Thought you’d still be about yay tall.” He gestured low with his hand, trying to lighten the moment.
You let out a small, polite laugh, still feeling the weight of his gaze.
Your mother, trying to avoid any more confrontation said “Alright, sweetheart, behave yourself, okay? Listen to your uncle.”
Your dad gave your shoulder a firm pat. “No trouble. You hear me?”
“Yes, sir” you murmured softly.
Without lingering, your parents turned and walked out the door. You felt a mix of relief and shyness settle inside you.
You stood awkwardly in the middle of the living room, holding your bag tightly, unsure of where to go or what to say. The grandeur of the place was almost overwhelming, plush furniture, and the faint scent of leather and cologne lingering in the air. It felt surreal being here, in his house.
Elvis watched you for a moment, tilting his head slightly like he was trying to figure you out. He offered a warm smile, the kind that could put most people at ease, but it felt out of place against the silence in the room. “Well, darlin’, you don’t gotta stand there like a statue. Make yourself comfortable. Couch don’t bite.”
You nodded, cheeks warming, and murmured, “Okay.” Setting your bag down carefully, as though it might shatter, you perched on the edge of the couch, stiff and uncertain.
Elvis leaned slightly toward Jerry, who had wandered around him. Lowering his voice, Elvis whispered, “Why’s she like this?”
“You know” he muttered, gesturing subtly toward you with a flick of his fingers. “All quiet, like she’s waitin’ for permission to breathe.”
Jerry sighed, crossing his arms. “Her parents. They’ve been overprotective, man. Think about it, she’s tied to you. They didn’t want her gettin’ dragged into all the attention. You know how people get about anything connected to you.” He gestured vaguely toward the house. “They tried to keep her away from all that. She’s only just started going to a private school, so she’s probably still tryin’ to figure out where she fits.”
Elvis looked over at you again, noticing how you sat so rigidly, your hands clasped neatly in your lap. “That ain’t right,” he murmured to himself, then spoke up gently, “Go ahead, lean back, put your feet up if you feel like it. Nobody’s gonna mind.”
You blinked, startled, then nodded as you shifted slightly against the cushions. “Thanks,” you said quietly, though you still couldn’t quite meet his eyes.
Elvis watched as you finally started to settle into the couch, your posture less stiff, your hands no longer clutching your lap. A faint smile tugged at the corners of his mouth.
“So, uh…” you said quietly, glancing up at him. “Do you have a place to watch a movie? Maybe?”
Elvis’s grin widened, clearly pleased to see you starting to come out of your shell. “Do I have a place? Darlin’, we’ve got a TV room downstairs. Go on down, pick whatever film you want.”
You hesitated for a moment, then stood, the thought of escaping into a movie making you feel a bit lighter.
“And don’t you worry,” Elvis added, his tone playful, “Jerry makes the best popcorn in Memphis.”
Jerry’s voice cut in. “Since when?”
Elvis didn’t miss a beat. “Since now.”
The quick back-and-forth made you laugh, a soft, genuine sound that caught even you off guard. Elvis’s grin grew warmer at the sound.
“Go on” he said, nodding toward the stairs. “TV room’s all yours.”
With a small smile, you nodded and headed toward the stairs, feeling a little more at ease than you had all evening.
As you disappeared down the hallway, Elvis stayed rooted in place, his gaze lingering on the spot where you’d just stood. His jaw tightened slightly, and his usual easy expression faded into something more thoughtful, almost uneasy.
“Jerry,” he said after a moment, his voice low but carrying a weight that made Jerry look up immediately.
“What’s on your mind, boss?” Jerry asked, leaning against the counter where he was rifling through the cabinets.
Elvis turned to face him, his tone quiet but firm. “I want you to stick close. Be her shadow while she’s here.”
Jerry straightened, raising an eyebrow. “Shadow? She’s watchin’ a movie, Elvis. What kinda trouble you think she’s gonna get into?”
Elvis gave him a pointed look. “I ain’t talkin’ about trouble. She’s been through somethin’, I can feel it. If she needs somethin’, you handle it. I don’t care if it’s popcorn, a blanket, or a damn flight outta here. Just make sure she’s okay.”
Jerry’s smirk faded as he saw the genuine worry in Elvis’s eyes. “Alright” he said, nodding. “You got it.”
As you curled up on the plush couch in the vast TV room downstairs, the soft glow of the screen bathed the space in a warm, colorful light. The bright yellow and black paint on the walls seemed to bounce off the screen, adding to the comfortable, almost cozy feel of the room. You scrolled through the movie options, ultimately settling on a light, romantic comedy that promised to be nothing but harmless entertainment.
At first, the lighthearted humor and goofy antics brought a small smile to your face. You even laughed at a few of the absurd scenes. But as the movie shifted into its tender moments, something inside you twisted.
The couple on screen smiled at each other, sharing quiet, meaningful words, and your chest tightened. Their affection and understanding were a cruel contrast to what lingered in your mind.
“You’re not enough,” the voice echoed in your memory, sharp and cold. “You never were.”
You tried to brush off the weight of those words, to redirect your attention back to the movie. But the knot in your stomach tightened, expanding into your chest until it felt like you were suffocating. The tears welled up in your eyes, hot and unwelcome, and before you could stop them, they began to trickle down your face one by one. At first, they fell silently, but soon they came faster, your breath hitching as those words kept echoing in your head like a broken record.
You felt ridiculous, crying over a romcom, but the feelings refused to be buried. You hugged your knees closer to your chest, letting the tears spill out, the ache in your chest too much to contain.
Meanwhile, Jerry was still in the kitchen, distracted as he refilled the popcorn bowl for what felt like the fifth time. “Best popcorn in Memphis? Goddammit” he muttered. He finally headed downstairs with the bowl in hand.
“Got your…”Jerry started as he entered the room, but his words caught in his throat when he saw you.
You were curled up on the couch, shoulders shaking as silent tears streamed down your face. The sound of the movie barely masked the hitched breaths you tried to suppress.
Jerry froze, the popcorn bowl wobbling in his hands. His usual easy demeanor cracked into something anxious and awkward. “Uh… hey,” he said softly, his voice uncertain. “You, uh… you okay?”
You quickly wiped at your face, shaking your head as if dismissing him would make it all go away. “I’m fine,” you croaked, but the crack in your voice gave you away.
Jerry’s eyes darted to the stairs, his panic rising. “Alright. Just… stay put, okay? I’ll be right back.”
Before you could argue, he bolted, taking the stairs two at a time.
“Boss!” Jerry called out, bursting into the hallway where Elvis was still pacing, clearly waiting for something to go wrong.
Elvis turned sharply, his expression immediately serious. “What is it?”
Jerry took a breath, his words rushed. “It’s her, man. She’s cryin’, like, full-on cryin’. Somethin’s wrong, Elvis.”
Elvis’s jaw tightened, worry etching lines into his face. “Cryin’? Over a movie?”
Jerry shook his head. “It ain’t the movie. It’s somethin’ else. You need to get down there.”
Elvis didn’t wait for another word, brushing past Jerry as he strode toward the stairs. His steps were quick but steady, his heart heavy with concern. Whatever was going on, he wasn’t going to let you face it alone.
Elvis steps inside, rushing, his footsteps deliberate yet soft. He pauses when he sees you, his face immediately shifting from casual curiosity to gentle concern. He moves closer, lowering himself onto the couch beside you.
“Honey,” he begins, his voice as smooth as velvet, “what’s wrong? Tell me what’s goin’ on.”
You shrink into yourself, embarrassed, but his presence is steady and calming. He leans forward slightly, elbows on his knees, his sharp blue eyes scanning your face.
“Alright, sugar,” he says in a lighter tone, a flicker of humor in his expression, “who do we need to kill?”
You blink at him, startled. “What? No! Don’t kill him!”
Elvis raises an eyebrow, a sly smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “Oh, so it is a ‘him.’” He shifts to sit back, resting an arm along the couch. “What happened? Let me help ya.”
You hesitate, but the way he looks at you, patient and open, makes it impossible to hold back. “It’s my boyfriend… well, my ex-boyfriend. He broke up with me this morning.”
Elvis’s relaxed posture stiffens slightly. “Go on.”
You swallow hard. “He said I’m boring, that I’m not a woman, and that he can’t have fun with me.”
Elvis’s jaw tightens, and for a moment, his expression darkens. “This little…” His lips part as if to let out a string of curses, but he catches himself, muttering under his breath, “Coward.” Then he takes a deep breath, forcing his temper to settle before he speaks again.
“Sugar, listen to me. You are not boring, and you are a woman. That boy’s a damn fool who doesn’t know what he had.”
“But…” you sniffle, wiping your face with your hand. “Then why would he say those things? I don’t understand.”
Elvis exhales, leaning forward again. “Alright, sugar,” he says carefully, his tone soft but serious. “Listen…what that boy said to you was cruel and unfair. You are a woman, no question about it. But…what he probably meant is that he’s lookin’ for somethin’ you weren’t ready to give. And that’s not on you, darlin’, that’s on him.”
You tilt your head, your brows furrowing. “Something I wasn’t ready to give? What do you mean, Uncle Elvis?”
Elvis shifts uncomfortably, rubbing the back of his neck. His usual composure falters, and he clears his throat. “Well, uh…sometimes, men think bein’ a woman means…y’know, bein’…uh…” He coughs, clearly struggling to find the right words. “…more grown-up in a physical sense. Like…closer than just holdin’ hands.”
You blink at him, wide-eyed and innocent. “Closer? Like kissing?”
He chuckles nervously, rubbing his jaw. “Yeah, darlin’. Like kissin’. And…uh…other stuff that comes after that.”
“Oh…” you say, thinking it over. Then your face brightens with sudden realization. “So you know what men need, Elvis?”
Elvis freezes. “Uh…well, I reckon I’ve got a little experience in that department ” he says cautiously, trying to steer the conversation away from the cliff he feels it’s headed toward.
You lean toward him, your expression is full of hope. “Then can you make me a woman?”
The silence is deafening. Elvis’s face turns a shade of red you’ve never seen before, and he jumps up from the couch so quickly you think he might trip over his own feet. “Wha-What?!” he exclaims, his voice an octave higher than usual.
“Can you make me a woman?” you repeat, completely earnest.
“Whoa, now! Hold on a second!” He raises his hands as if to physically stop the conversation. “No! No, no, no, sugar, that’s not how this works!”
You blink, genuinely confused. “Why not? You just said you know what a man needs.”
“That doesn’t mean I’m about to… Lord, have mercy…” He pinches the bridge of his nose, his other hand gripping his belt as he mutters to himself. “This is not the conversation I thought I’d be havin’ tonight.”
You look at him with pleading eyes. “But you said you’d help me.”
He groans, burying his face in his hands for a moment before taking a deep breath. Finally, he sits back down, knowing you don’t mean what he’s dreading and that you don’t fully understand.
“Alright, listen,” he says, his tone softer but still tinged with exasperation. “I can’t make you a woman, alright? But here’s what I’ll do. Tomorrow, we’ll sit down, and I’ll give you some tips.”
Your face lights up with gratitude. “Really?”
“Yeah, really. But it’s about you feelin’ confident in who you are. Deal?”
“Deal!” you say, throwing your arms around him in a big hug.
Elvis stiffens in surprise for a second before relaxing, patting your back gently. “Alright, sugar,” he murmurs with a faint smile, relieved that he could cheer you up and that you’re feeling a bit more comfortable opening up to him. “You’re gonna be just fine. That boy didn’t deserve you anyway.”
When you pull back, he gives you a strained but affectionate smile, muttering as he grabs the remote, “You’re gonna kill me, sugar, you really are.”

dai love interests' letters to the inquisitor in veilguard, if anyone was curious to see them. transcriptions in alt text & under cut
Amatus,
I'm writing. Again. Yes, the sending crystals still work and yes, you'll be in Minrathous in a few short weeks. But a letter, written in blind longing, is real. It can be touched, and it can be held, when ink and paper must substitute for your skin on mine and my breath in your ear.
I used to scoff at frequent declarations of affection. Trite, I thought. Save them for rare and precious moments. But time and love are no longer things I care to squander, especially not as we race again toward calamity. And so, in each of these fleeting, ephemeral seconds, I will tell you that I love you. Whether penned or spoken, or conveyed by glance or action, I love you. In this moment, and in all the moments to come, for as long as they do, I love you.
I will find you soon.
Yours, Dorian
---
My love,
You have summoned me to Minrathous, and I will answer your call, as soon as responsibilities here in the South allow. I have missed being by your side.
Will these troubles be the last we face? The world seems always to conspire, through duty or disaster, to pull you away from me. I do not resent it. You are dedicated to purposes far larger and more significant than myself. I hope you do not think me a fool for hoping that one day, your only concern will be the color you wish our walls to be painted, or the flowers we will plant beside our gate. I'm partial to carnations.
Yours always, Thom
---
My love,
We are no strangers to duty, or the separation it demands of us. You head for Tevinter, and though I want to go with you, there is work we both must do. I will not falter in the tasks that wait before me and I pray my actions, in whatever measure they can, will keep you safe.
The others see only confidence in my resolve, but you have always known more than mere appearance. I confess to you, and you alone, that I am afraid. I'm afraid of what may happen, that Thedas will face such turmoil as it did before. I know not what awaits us. Yet even in the face of uncertainty, there are two things I cannot doubt and never will. The first is that our paths are never separated long. That I will find you at my side when I need you, as you will find me at yours. I will play my part in this and follow as soon as I can.
The second thing I never doubt is you. Whatever lies before you, trust yourself. Trust your heart as I trust it. It will not lead you astray.
Yours, Cassandra
---
Hey, Kadan,
Not the first time we've marched toward different battles. I know you're keeping the crap from catching fire up in Tevinter. Wish I could be there, but I'll make sure there's a world for you to come back to when you're done dealing with crazy vints and stupid Antaam and whatever other crap Solas kicked up. (Shit, the Antaam. Remember when I was worried what would happen if I went tal-vashoth? That right there!)
I know you're gonna be careful, and you've got Morrigan there. Just take care of yourself. If anything happens to you, I'm going to have to take Krem and the Chargers and stomp across all of Tevinter to come get you. It'll be a whole thing, and you know it'll upset Dorian.
Being apart from you made me realize something else. I spent so long being whatever the Ben-Hassrath wanted me to be. An investigator. An agent. A mercenary sending reports. These past years, since the Inquisition ended, I've been able to be just what I want to be.
And what I really want to be is yours. I like the person I am when I'm with you.
So come back safe.
Love, The signature appears to be a stylized rendering of the Iron Bull's head.
---
(An artistically doodled journal page presumably from the Inquisitor's partner, Sera.)
Keep this as close as I need you. (A drawing of a pile of flowers, with lines like it's moving, an arrow pointing to it labeled "us.")
North again, Mini-wrathus still stuck up its own pucker.
Magiturds are scared of us. They don't even know.
We work with Maevaris, right? She's wow.
So many Friends! Jennies in all the walls!
We kill him this time. He took from us twice! (A drawing of a cracked egg scribbled out, with "can't even joke" in letters that tore the page.)
Still thinking of you sideways.
Never mind the Dalish, here's the Veil Jumpers! Tempest-kin! (A drawing of a tall, shorthaired elf (Sera?) and Irelin brandishing two fingers, backflipping as a tree explodes in runes.)
The memory thing makes my head spin. If that Rook doesn't take it, throw it out.
Tell Morrigan ppbbth! for me.
I'll also tell her ppbbth! She knows why.
Tell them to Stripe. Him. Up. I wanted more books. (More heavy scribbles that tear.)
You meet; I'll keep you safe. Then I'm your time off, and you're my time on.
(The last section has different colored inks, like Sera has returned to it several times.)
New naked names: -Sweet-tits (scribbled out) -Bestest (scribbled out) -Loverly (scribbled out) -Lovey (scribbled out) -My-for-always-and-ever - name's not too long, time's too short. -But "Sweet-tits," though (scribbled out)
---
The top of the letter has been punctured by small, sharp teeth, leaving most of a beloved name and a few sentences too chewed to read.
I fear the puppy started on this letter shortly after I did. I'd start over, but I must send this tonight if it's to reach you. Matters are settled here and I make for Tevinter as soon as possible.
I almost believed chaos might spare us this time. I can't say I wished to see Minrathous before now, but I am eager to see you. I long to see your face and know that you're all right. You are— I've— There's— I wish that I was better at putting into writing all that's in my mind. For now, simply know that I love you. It is the most cherished constant of my life.
The days ahead will not be easy. I know there's much you carry, more than many realize. But whatever you must face, you will not meet it alone. You have my sword, my counsel, my—I could write this list forever when all I mean to say is this—
Whatever you need of me, I am yours.
Cullen
---
My Dearest Lady, / My Dearest Lord,
I have spoken to friends in Minrathous. They offer us their hospitality, not to mention shelter from the worst intrigues of the Archon's Palace. While you're well acquainted with the roving eyes of grand courts, please take care. Tevinter's regard can be the oldest and cruelest of them all.
The family writes the weather back home is beautiful. I do miss our quiet times together.
There is a question I've wanted to ask you for so long. I would like to pretend I have been busy, or it was not the proper time. But, if I am being honest, I only waited because I have been afraid of choosing a poor moment. Please, let me make a promise to you here.
When we return to Antiva, I will ask you, on the steps of the estate, if you will do me a great honor. And I dream you will say yes.
Always yours, Josephine
Postscript: I cannot believe it nearly slipped my mind. Yvette and Lord Otranto send their best wishes, and hope to see us back home in time to welcome their third child.

Unwilling Mand'alor Satine AU: Part Three
(part one (sort of?) || part two)
The Empire has been preparing for its attack on Mandalore for many years. They are well-equipped; more than enough stormtroopers to overwhelm Bo-Katan's Nite Owl forces, and Vader and his inquisitors will be there to deal with the Jedi.
But here's the thing.
Vader was Anakin Skywalker once, and Anakin Skywalker was there on the Coronet that day, all those years ago, when Satine Kryze pointed a blaster at Tal Merrik and couldn't pull the trigger.
Vader remembers this, and when the battle is being organized, he directs the plans accordingly. Satine Kryze couldn't shoot one man to save a ship full of people, so of course she will stand back while Mandalore burns and the Jedi under her "protection" are slaughtered. Satine will not pull the trigger.
Vader is so very, very wrong.
Satine hates violence, that is true. She hates war. The idea of taking a life makes her feel sick.
But she cannot, will not, stand back while the Empire does its worst to the people she has sworn to protect.
Satine pulls the trigger.
---
Kelleran Beq is leading an evacuation of the younglings from the palace when an armored Mandalorian he's never seen before runs past him in the palace hallway, presence burning with controlled fury.
Obi-Wan is drawing Vader's attention away from the palace when he sees a single warrior soaring high above him, a black blade in her hand.
Bo-Katan, who spent quite a bit of her teenage years getting thrown around the training mats by her older sister, looks up and grins.
The Empire will not win this round.
Satine hasn't worn her armor in over a decade, but the weight of it is familiar all the same. She is fighting for the Jedi as much as she is fighting for Mandalore, and the kyber at the heart of the Darksaber knows this. Satine is not practiced at wielding it, but she does not have to be. The Darksaber wields her. It is magnificent to her people. It is terrifying to the Empire.
But this is not the only sight that will be remembered, and in the years that follow, the legends of the Battle of Mandalore begin to spread.
---
Ahsoka has acquired a jetpack by this point, and she leads a charge of Nite Owls in an aerial assault on the Imperial ships hovering around Sundari. She takes a light cruiser by storm, smashing feet-first through the front window, lightsabers blazing green and gold.
(In this universe, she does not wield lightsabers that Anakin modified to be blue like his own. She uses new blades, blades that are hers, blades forged with beskar hilts and powered by crystals she claimed from the depths of the Living Waters.)
(Ahsoka Tano has become a child of two worlds, and she is wearing it well.)
She is the second Jedi in Mandalorian history to have an epic ballad written about her.
She will not be the last.
---
Years ago, Rex was dragged to Mandalore bound hand and foot, writhing against his bonds because his mind was telling him to kill, kill the Jedi, kill her, destroy her, destroy them all, even as every instinct rebelled against it. But Ahsoka and a med-droid working together removed the chip that had wrested control of his body from him, and he's been free for years. Free, and working to free all his brothers. There is a sizable squad of them by now, and they fight for their Generals and their Commanders and the brothers they lost and the brothers they still have.
They fight, and they win, and their songs of victory are sung proudly.
(Jango Fett refused to share his heritage with them. The Mando'a they knew was negligible; they never considered themselves Mandalorians.)
(That has changed.)
(They are not Mandalorians by blood, but by choice, because to a true Mandalorian, blood means nothing.)
---
There are many Inquisitors who accompany Vader to Mandalore---and they do not fail entirely in their mission. More than a few Jedi die.
One Jedi who falls is accompanying a Padawan when she is attacked. She screams for the boy to run, seconds before a red blade pierces through her chest.
But he does not run.
(Not this time.)
Though Caleb is nineteen and a capable duelist, he is no match for the Grand Inquisitor. He lasts four minutes before a slash to the face ends the fight, and he falls to the ground. The Grand Inquisitor steps closer, and raises his blade to finish the boy off, when a single voice rings out loud and clear.
"Leave him alone!"
Through vision blurred with pain---through only one eye---Caleb sees the form of a scrawny child, standing fierce and tall and hopelessly unprepared to face an Inquisitor.
The Grand Inquisitor glances over his shoulder, laughs coldly, then turns back to Caleb, twirling his blade.
"I said leave him alone!"
There is a snap-hiss and a flash of green light, and behind the Grand Inquisitor, the girl drops into the Djem So opening stance. The dead Jedi's lightsaber is comically big in her grasp, and she holds it backwards, but her form is precise, and she is undaunted.
"Come at me, hut'uun," she spits.
She can't be more than seven years old.
Caleb's grip on his own blade tightens, and as the Inquisitor turns away from him to cut down the annoyance, Caleb staggers to his feet and rams his blade through the Grand Inquisitor's chest.
"I coulda taken him," the girl complains, as the Grand Inquisitor staggers once and then drops dead at her feet. Up close, Caleb finally recognizes her.
"You're that kid," he says, gripping the wall with one hand because he's dizzied by pain. "The one Ahsoka's training."
(It's more polite than that feral demon child from Death Watch, which is also what he's heard her referred to as.)
Caleb grabs her by the wrist and runs as best he can---runs not for himself, but for a child in his protection---bringing her to the Sundari citadel, where the Jedi are taking refuge. A Twi'lek healer sits him down and patches him up as best she can, but his left eye is lost to him.
In the aftermath, Sabine draws a crooked jaig eye on Caleb's eyepatch.
---
A stealth squad of purge troopers, led by an Inquisitor, break into the Palace, taking it by surprise and cutting off the escape route for a group of Jedi children. Kelleran orders them to run. He says he'll be right behind them.
Most of the children know it's a lie.
Most of the children do as he told them.
But one turns back.
It is a girl, seventeen years old and different from the rest of the Jedi, because she's not a Jedi at all—only a lonely girl rescued from a dusty red world, the last of her kind. She stops and looks back and sees Kelleran Beq holding his own against the advancing purge troopers, and she knows he will not get out alive. Many of them have fallen, but many more remain, and an Inquisitor with them.
She wonders if she could even the odds.
No, she knows she could even the odds.
So she turns around. A Jedi boy runs after her, grabbing her hand and trying to pull her away, frantically demanding to know what she's doing. But she just grips his gloved hand tightly, narrows her focus to the purge trooper bodies littering the ground, and whispers— sisters, give me strength.
Merrin's eyes burn green and flame dances on her fingertips as she begins to chant.
(This story is spread in whispered rumors from stormtrooper to stormtrooper, and is usually dismissed as horror story nonsense. But the Purge troopers who were there to see it—well, they won't be forgetting it any time soon.)
---
Another Inquisitor breaks into the citadel in the center of the city, lightsaber flashing, ready to strike. The few Jedi Masters there ignite their blades, ready to defend their own.
But one holds her hand up sharply, halting the rest.
The verdant blade in her hand hisses as it deactivates, and she steps forwards.
"Padawan," she says.
The Inquisitor falters.
"Padawan," she repeats, more gently.
The Inquisitor's own blade deactivates as she stares in petrified indecision and fear.
But the Jedi doesn't hesitate at all. She holds out a hand to her, palm up. "Come here, my child."
The twisted black hilt of a scarlet saber clatters to the ground, and with a choked sob, Barriss Offee crashes into her master's arms.
---
Obi-Wan pushes past his grief and his guilt and fights Vader head-on. It is difficult to believe that this twisted monster used to be Anakin Skywalker.
At least, it is difficult to believe it, until Padme shows her face.
She wears armor painted in the colors and patterns she wore as Queen, and tears her helmet off to reveal her face.
Vader freezes.
"Padme?" he wheezes, sounding like someone reached into his chest and ripped his heart out.
Padme levels a blaster at his head.
Bombs fall and blasters fire all around them, but for the three old friends torn apart, there is pure silence.
"Padme," Vader says again, stepping towards her once. "Padme, it's---it's me, it's---"
She cuts him off sharply. "I know who you are, Anakin."
"But---"
"I miscarried. Did you know that?" she spits out. An accusation. (A lie.) "Our baby is dead because of you, and if Obi-Wan hadn't brought me to Mandalore, I would have died with her."
"Padme---"
Padme goes on, breathing fire and fury, because even if her children are alive and safe, her heart is shattered, and she uses that pain. She always has. "I called her Annie. For the moment I held her, I named her for the man I loved! I loved Anakin Skywalker---I love him still!"
Her voice drops low and she lowers her blaster.
"But---" She shakes her head slowly, never looking away from the skeletal mask he wears, and Obi-Wan knows she swallows down tears. "I don't know who you are. Not anymore."
And Vader does something truly unexpected.
He retreats, leaving behind a brother and a wife who watch him go.
(Both of them could have killed him.)
(Neither of them could do it.)
---
Above, around, and through it all, Satine Kryze does battle. Her blood runs hot, and she does not hesitate. She disarms when she can, injures when she must, and kills only as a very last resort.
But she does kill.
When the next morning dawns and the Empire is gone and Jedi leap nimbly from one rubble heap to the next, searching for the gleaming sparks of life as they lead search-and-rescue teams, the Duchess of Mandalore locks herself in her bedroom. Her scorched armor screeches against the wall as she slides to the floor, a blaster in one hand and the Darksaber in another.
She is too tired to cry.
She is too tired to be sick.
She is too tired feel anything but loathing.
Oh, Manda. What have I done?
But even as she chokes the question out to herself, she knows the answer.
She did what she had to do.
And she will never forgive herself for having done it.

BALDURS GATE SLIMECICLE SPOILERS.
Okay look, Rai, right? Looking for the fruits of knowledge, willing to do ANYTHING to find information on his family. Knowledge, in some way is POWER. The themes of power in just this little thing in general is explodes.
Rai turns on the others because of a promise of this knowledge on his family, a promise of power, being told that the only way he can truly get it is by killing the other three. Rai does not want to, but he’s doing what he has to to get what he truly wants.
NOW XIV. XIV is a Walking theypunzel of power, their father using different “batteries” consisting of ACTUAL PEOPLE to fuel his power, right? Sucking the life from people, for power. XIV was almost a victim of this, as shown about an hour into the video, where their backstory was explained. XIV was almost killed/used for power. And XIV TRUSTED THEIR FATHER. XIV DID.
SEE HOW THESE RELATE??? It must’ve hit hard for XIV, and the rest too, to see someone they’ve trusted corrupted due to power. The HOPE Tal had that maybe Rai was back after the crystal shattered, the WORRY Klip had when casually asking why the flippity flipper Rai was so engulfed in the book.
BLEGGGHHH they all make me insane and I love them so much and gosh!

3. Peri
Link do vídeo
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Aqui é onde eu começo a aplicar aquele meu método esquisito, então a partir daqui é puramente possibilidades e achismo.
6. Dev

Do you think Qunari* have like. Dentistry for Horns. Like if a kid's horn starts growing in towards the head they make a corrective brace for it so it curves back out.
Do you think there's Qunari that do this but to change the shape of their horns for aesthetic or for more deadly horn usage. Not bc they're going around headbutting their enemies or each other (I think that'd be discouraged bc it's kind of stupid and close-range compared to swords/easy for them to get stuck, etc) but as a back-up weapon/defence sorta deal.
That said it'd probably make more sense for them to just cut it off and replace it kind of like how Taash has that crystal horn going on.
But I like the idea of Qunari manipulating their horns to be slimmer/wider/have a cool shape. I wonder how painful it'd be to carve designs into the horns.
*Qunari as in People With Horns including but no limited to: The Qun, Tal-Vashoth, and Vashoth.

Drow Name Tables
Something I did as a special favor to @kimmurielsscryingmirror (@eldritchmist ) who showed interest. Because it’s...pretty big I decided to make it into it’s own post.
These are a few Drow naming tables that were originally found in an issue of Dragon Magazine. It’s two d100 tables of prefixes and suffixes commonly used in first names. The second couple of tables is a list of common house name prefixes and suffixes.
EDIT: Just a little something for those who care which I didn’t add before because it took me so long to finish the transcription I just wanted to post it lol. The gender difference is noted in the related Dragon Magazine article as being significant. Non Drow may not notice but a Drow will notice the difference. Female names sometimes borrow parts that are normally only considered male and this is considered fine...but a male with a name that borrows a typically only female part would be seen as extremely taboo.
