It isn't all bad, facing no consequences for his actions can be fun for a bit. For a character who barely gets a page or two in the novel, WRH somehow manages to look like a tiger amongst dogs and it's that aspect of his character that made me fall head over heels for him. There's something irresistible about characters that exude that aura of pure power and confidence.
Absolutely yes to this, Anon!
In addition to his power and confidence, there is also something delectable in Wen RuoHan's use of restraint. He has the absolute power to do whatever he wants, and yet he's never shown to overdo things. He smacks the saber but doesn't go so far as to break it. He subdues Nie MingJue but doesn't go so far as to break him. He doesn't even speak rudely or out of turn!
So many characters go too far with their actions, causing murder and mayhem left and right, but Wen Ruohan is never shown to do or is accused of doing anything unforgivable even though he is the one we might expect it from the most. Absolute power apparently doesn't corrupt absolutely.
...It would be strange not to go all head over heels for him, right!?
The confidence to not use his power to prove he has power is quite rare. Jin GuangShan was Wen RuoHan's obedient ally but joined the Sunshot Campaign, and yet Wen RuoHan doesn't speak of vengeance or punishment, but rather with the simple belief that Jin GuangShan will realize his error when times get hard and come back to the Wen Sect in the end.
Three years of the Sunshot Campaign go by before Wen RuoHan finally makes his first move, and it turns out he doesn't even move to show his enemies whose sect they are messing with! He doesn't make a move to win! He moves because, "He's the one who killed Wen Xu?" He moves because his Wen cultivators are either about to be harmed or have been harmed.
Like wow, truly a tiger amongst dogs to not be pulled down by all that messy fighting! Even the way he doesn't see the point in torturing someone who is already defeated shows makes his power and confidence shine. He might like the sight of blood and sometimes enjoy torturing those who offend him, but there is nothing said about him killing anyone--because killing people doesn't actually prove one's power or win any favors! It just makes people dead lol
It's no wonder the Qishan Wen Sect became bold as brass having such a poised leader at their center. His power and confidence gave even the weakest members of the Qishan Wen power and confidence. His death was as if the sun had at last set and Nightless City, the home to the largest and richest and most powerful sect, finally went dark with his passing.
And although he doesn't have a lot of page time, however, we watch as others take bits and pieces of his legacy and fail to recreate even a fraction of what he had. Most notable is how Jin GuangShan invented and Jin GuangYao established the Chief Cultivator position as if Wen RuoHan's personal power and confidence and influence could be bought.
Characters like Wen RuoHan are irresistible and we accept no substitutions or poor imitations!
#anon#asked from above#wen ruohan#mdzs thoughts#i kept cutting back to make this short#and then it kept getting long again#i really do not know how to shut up about this man!

iVisit... Beano: The Art of Breaking the Rules
Dennis and Gnasher, Minnie the Minx, Bananaman and the rest of the Beano gang take over Somerset House this autumn in a contemporary celebration of the world’s longest-running comic
This autumn, Somerset House presents Beano: The Art of Breaking the Rules, a major exhibition celebrating the world’s longest-running weekly comic and a British cultural icon: Beano.
First released in 1938 and still crafted weekly from its home in Dundee, Beano has entertained and inspired across the decades, forming a lasting impact on the contemporary cultural landscape and, crucially, on today’s artists themselves, by always applying one simple rule - rules should be broken. This landmark exhibition explores both Beano’s and contemporary art’s unruliness and irreverence, through the eyes of extraordinary artists who embody the Beano sensibility of rebellion.
In the 70th year of Beano’s top mischief-maker Dennis, Beano: The Art of Breaking the Rules will feature original comic drawings, never previously seen in public, selected across its 4,000-plus editions (to date) and rare archive artefacts, alongside works from leading artists and designers, imbued with the same Beano spirit of breaking the rules. Contributors include artists Bedwyr Williams, Hardeep Pandhal, Fourth Plinth artist Heather Phillipson, Holly Hendry, Lindsey Mendick, Sarah Lucas, Simeon Barclay and editorial cartoonist Martin Rowson.
Rebellion has always been at the heart of pioneering artistic practice, and for the past 82 years Beano has been right there too, inspiring generations of young people to discover the possibilities and sense of freedom that come through creativity. The riotous comic has created a gateway for some readers into the world of art and culture, where they can find an outlet to challenge convention themselves, just like Beano’s beloved band of mayhem-makers.
Beano’s iconic cast – Dennis and Gnasher, Minnie the Minx, Bananaman, Bash Street Kids, Billy Whizz and Roger the Dodger to name just a few – have mastered the art of rebellion, be it against convention, teachers or evil fruit supervillains. The characters are united in their ingenuity, endlessly hatching creative plans to bend or break the rules, even if they don’t always succeed in doing so. Across ten decades, Beano’s anti-heroes have encouraged young people to push and play with boundaries, an example that some of its readers have taken with them into their creative careers with unexpected results. Such is the starting point of this exhibition.
Beano: The Art of Breaking the Rules opens with the Beanotown Museum, introducing the maverick creators behind Beano, charting how they came to create the original characters. The show then moves to uncover some of the comic’s recurring themes, which resonate with the exhibition’s cohort of contemporary artists and the comic’s many other fans. Tackling topics such as Class, Education, Feminism and Art head-on, Beano showed its stars doing it differently. It is only the adults depicted that ever make assumptions about what all children are supposed to do or be. Here, contemporary works – including new commissions especially for the show – will interact with the original strips, together providing fresh perspectives on the comic masterpiece. The exhibition further explores how Beano has powerfully penetrated alternative pop culture and closes with an interactive workshop space, inspiring all ages to encounter their own creative misdemeanours.
Audiences will be made to feel as if they are stepping inside a page of the comic, with ongoing gags, editor’s notes and larger-than-life recreations of the regular sights of Beanotown, from Bash Street School and Bunkerton Castle to the homes of Gasworks Road, providing the backdrops for the audacious contemporary creations on show.
Beano: The Art of Breaking the Rules is curated by artist Andy Holden, a lifelong Beano fan. His artistic practice spans sculpture, large installations, painting, pop music, performance, and multi-screen videos, often using the allegory of the cartoon as a way to comprehend our contemporary landscape.
Holden said: “Both art and Beano are about being told to do one thing, then doing another: both require a creative solution. Beano was for me a gateway into comics and a love of drawing, and from there a springboard into a love of art. Beano’s irreverent sensibility is something that appeals to you as a child, but also, for some, never leaves you. To be able to present an immersive display of Beano’s history, and to examine its influence on art and culture is the curatorial equivalent of a ‘Beano feast’.
“The exhibition will bring Beanotown to life and populate it with a new set of resident maverick artists. In researching the show, almost every artist I’ve approached so far came back with yes, I loved the Beano and hopefully this exhibition will show how some of the themes that have run through Beano’s history are often the same ones that feed a creative, rebellious sensibility.”
Mike Stirling, Editorial Director, Beano Studios, said: "I warned Dennis that one of the pictures in his new show at Somerset House would make people laugh so hard, they risked fracturing their funny bones and he said, 'That's just a mirror!' Beano relishes making an exhibition of anyone who takes themselves too seriously and we can't wait for families to enjoy what we have planned. Because without Art, the Earth would be just...Eh?"

It's a cub mistake to do and hail a cab on the road in the urban center. By law, taxis (and ride-sharing services) are solely allowed to choose up and drop off passengers in selected areas (usually before a casino). Which means you'll need to be part of an associate typically implausibly long queue of riders to induce anyplace within the town. It's a decent plan to pay your transportation time by a half-hour to induce anyplace in Las Vegas, particularly throughout peak dinner times and right once a show finishes when crowds of individuals scramble for the taxi line at the identical time.
Don't get long-hauled
If a cab driver asks if this can be your initial visit to the urban center, they're doubtless not simply creating gossip. Long-hauling, taking passengers on an extended route than necessary to extend the fare, isn't uncommon in Vegas. the most effective thanks to avoiding it's by mapping your destination before you get within the cab and by being specific regarding what route you wish the motive force to require. Long-hauling happens most frequently from the landing field. There are 2 routes to the urban center Strip -- the longer route gets on the route and can find yourself cost accounting regarding $10 overtaking the shorter (and additional scenic) native streets.
Visit the caretaker table before the Night Club
Las Vegas has a number of the foremost fun nightclubs (and pool parties) on the world. Celebrity DJs, bottle service, dance parties, and lightweight shows are simply the tip of the party iceberg. however, before you even give some thought to beefy on your stilettos and standing in line, stop by your hotel's caretaker table. Most of the hotels on the Strip partner with one or two of on- and off-property clubs, and therefore the caretaker workers are socially connected for recommendations, discounts, and obtaining guests on the usually elusive list. Fifteen minutes with the caretaker will prevent some hours of standing in line, and perhaps get you high-up standing.
Avoid the largest trade shows
Thanks to hotels with large event areas and glorious rates for rooms purchased in bulk, metropolis could be a mecca to trade shows and national events. the largest events will bring an inflow of many thousand travelers, filling up hotels, merchandising out shows, and making themed mayhem. If you don't believe the United States of America, visit Vegas the identical weekend in Dec that one hundred seventy-five,000 cowboys come back for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. throughout now, obtainable dinner reservations get enveloped up by men and ladies fully denim and cowboy hats. It is plenty of fun, however, costs undoubtedly jump, therefore it's valued Googling your planned vacation days to work out if they overlap with any major shows or events.
Budget time and cash for a show
First-time Vegas guests typically devote most of their trip to the casino floor. And whereas we're all concerning gambling in Vegas, it might be a blunder to miss out on one among the best shows. whether or not you see Britney Spears dance and lip-sync her hits at Planet Hollywood edifice and Casino, laugh together with Penn & Teller at metropolis All Suites edifice & Casino, or marvel at the acrobatics in any of the Corrie du Soleil shows, it's visiting be fun. There are more cost-effective choices, like Frank Marino's Divas metropolis at The LINQ edifice & Casino.
Persist with a gambling budget
As we tend to aforementioned before, gambling is one among the simplest aspects of a metropolis visit. However, it will get out of hand quickly. build a budget of what proportion cash you've got to gamble (that is, what proportion cash you're ready to lose) well before you hit the free drinks, pumping music, and siren sounds of the recreation floor. Once you attain that threshold, it's time to steer. If you discover yourself eliminating extra cash at the casino's ATM (which comes with Brobdingnagian fees) or linguistic communication up for a MasterCard advance, you recognize you've gone too way.
Casino cocktails are free
As an incentive to stay gamblers gambling, most casinos transfer a tiny low army of scantily-clad cocktail servers to require free drink orders. Of course, recreation tables with massive minimum bet needs and therefore the dollar slots see plenty additional server circulation than the penny machines, however tipping some bucks per cocktail could be a great way to stay the cocktails coming back and your fate points high. However, drinks by the pool and at casino bars are typically dear.
Bring a sweater
Las Vegas includes a desert climate and temperatures will reach the triple digits within the summer. It's important to wear ointment and keep hydrous, even for brief walks and pool visits. That said, most indoor institutions is temperature reduction with their intense air-con systems. Bring a light-weight sweater or wrap with you to any or all restaurants, theaters, and casinos. It sounds unreasonable, however, you'll impart the United States of America. And whereas we're on the topic of dress codes, several restaurants and night clubs have strict rules relating to hats, shorts, sports jerseys, and open-toed shoes for men. Smarten up to be on the safe facet.
Whoredom isn't legal
Contrary to fashionable belief, it's not legal to buy sex in the metropolis - or anyplace in Clark County for that matter. Silver State permits counties with a population below 700,000 to supply house of prostitution, and there are around twenty legal brothels within the state. Ineligible prostitution will happen in some metropolis edifice rooms, however, several welcome managers don't play around once it involves breaking the law and can evict anyone suspected of participating in ineligible behavior.
Don't keep too long
Four nights is simply concerning the correct quantity of your time to pay within the high energy and warmth of metropolis. Sure, there's enough to work out, do, and eat to fill a whole year, however, we've found that it's best to go to metropolis many times, instead of making an attempt to pack everything into one high-intensity trip. perpetually leave a reason to return back (and some beyond regular time to nurse a hangover).

ED’s Very Important Thoughts About Transformers: The Last Knight
Unlike so many other critics around me every day, I don’t go into a new Transformers movie expecting the worst. Maybe that’s why it’s always disappointing when one of those movies just seriously disappoints or aggravates me. I mean, come on. Michael Bay has now directed five of these movies and surely, he would learn from the past problems or look at reviews and make adjustments. But nope. The Last Knight is more of the same, and it’s gotten harder to forgive Bay when he seems to not give a damn for the moviegoers paying for tickets.
Where do I even begin with this latest disaster? I mean, it starts out well enough with a giant medieval battle involving King Arthur and his knights, used to introduce a group of Transformers that have been around since then.
Since the last movie, Transformers have been outlawed on earth and the military group TFR has been created to keep them in check. We watch a group of kids break into a scrapyard where they find the body of one of the original Guardian Knights from King Arthur’s times holding a talisman. (Now immediately, there’s a problem because if the talisman has just been sitting there for years, how come no one else, including the Decepticons, have found it?)
They soon encounter rebellious teen Izabella (Isabella Moner), and as they’re beset by the military’s own robots, they’re saved by Mark Wahlberg’s Cade Yeager, who has also been deemed an outlaw, keeping him apart from his daughter. He saves them from the incoming TFR units and a couple Decepticons trying to get their hands on the talisman, which roots itself to Cade’s arm.
Where you start to realize that something may be wrong is when we see Optimus Prime floating in space towards the Planet Cybertron, where he encounters Quintessa (voiced by Gemma Chan), who apparently wants to rebuild Cybertron using the powerful staff we saw being given to Merlin (an unrecognizable Stanley Tucci!) earlier. Essentially the staff will take the energies from Earth and use them to recreate Cybertron.
The second time is when the story shifts to England and we meet Anthony Hopkins’ Sir Edmund Burton and his butler-bot “Cogman,” and that’s where things just start going completely haywire. Burton explains to Cade about the 12 Guardian Knights, Transformers that came to earth and fought alongside King Arthur and his knights and the staff that helped Merlin win the war. Burton also tells him about a secret order called the Wit-Wikkans... and anyone who remembers the earlier will notice the similarity of that name to the last name of Shia LaBeouf’s character from the original three movies.
This is also where we’re introduced to Laura Haddock as Dr. Vivian Wembley, who some might hope to be a strong female counterpart to Wahlberg, but is in fact, another “doctor in distress” even worse than Annabelle Harris’ character (also a disrespected doctor) in The Mummy.
Vivian is made to wear low-cut dresses that would not be appropriate for a historian and archivist, and is thrown into an awkward and inappropriate flirtation with Wahlberg’s character. It’s like all that hard work Patty Jenkins did Wonder Woman is trod upon and cast aside to revive the sexism that has plagued these movies for far too long.
The last few Transformers movies have had a character so over-the-top it pretty much ruins any chance of enjoying any part of the movie, and while you would think that Hopkins and Cogman would fulfill that role with their shenanigans. No, that would actually be Tony Hale as a crazed scientist trying to save the world who goes on a mad bender of a rant in front of a diverse cast of background actors that would normally get you kicked out of the “let’s save earth” discussions.
In fact, there are a lot of useless characters like John Turturro reprising his Agent Simmons role from the earlier movies, but having him stationed in Havana and getting involved in the story for no particularly reason. Similarly, the teen girl Izzy is introduced as a replacement for Cade’s and then forgotten, bringing very little importance to the story, and even that daughter Cade keeps mentioning about in the film’s dramatic scenes is completely forgotten. One assumes that after Cade helps TFR save the earth, he would be allowed to see her now?
Then there’s the fact that giant talking robots are still stupid AF, and this chapter includes a couple voiced by John Goodman and Steve Buscemi, who spout such utter nonsense, one wonders why they didn’t question their dialogue while in the sound booth. (The chance for a Big Lebowski reunion is sadly wasted.)
You have to give some credit to Bay for being able to create the necessary enormous scale these movies need and bringing these amazing worlds to life, but by the finale, it starts to go too far, with way too much happening on screen, to the point where no one will be able to figure out what they’re watching. There was a moment where I had to shift my focus to the giant lit-up IMAX sign on the theater wall to distract myself from the impossible to follow mayhem that was happening on screen. At this point, this is fairly unforgiveable, and it’s even worse watching it in IMAX 3D.
I don’t normally comment on a movie’s budget, but I can’t imagine this one costing less than $200 million, and that is just plain ridiculous for a movie like this, and there is so much wasted characters within the storytelling. At one point, the evil Megatron negotiates with the TFR to release some of his cronies--Decepticons with names like “Mohawk,” “Barricade” and “Nitro Zeus” (yikes)—but they’re immediately taken down by the main Autobots, making them completely unnecessary to the story. We later see the Guardian Knights joining together to form a giant dragon, so of course, the Decepticons need to have their own giant bot made up of other bots. Much of this movie just seems like Bay trying to throw as many ideas and money at the screen as humanly possible. As I said before, it’s a mess.
The biggest problem of all is that The Last Knight is the first movie in a proposed Transformers shared universe with a Bumblebee prequel movie planned for next year. Like The Mummy, this is such an awful idea to try to set up future movies and not ground them in something more solid than this movie.
(Incidentally, I don’t think the movie will make more than $80 million in its first five days and might do closer to $75 million or even less.)
Rating: 4.5/10

Summer entertainment we (still) can't wait for
New Post has been published on https://idealz.cloud/2018/07/10/summer-entertainment-we-still-cant-wait-for/
Summer entertainment we (still) can't wait for
At times the summer months seem to drag on with their sweltering temperatures and seemingly limitless supply of eye- and skin-damaging sunshine.
But there’s a less oppressive light at the end of this very bright tunnel, and it’s made out of thousands of tiny pixels. Yes, I’m talking about screens, an important part of the most enjoyable summer experience: staying inside and watching shit.
Lucky for us, there are still so many summer releases to look forward to this season, from block-busting monster movies to steamy romance films, lawyer-centric dramas to Mama Mia sequels. And we are so excited for them to come out.
Man, it’s a hot one this year, so put these bad boys on your list of excuses to stay out of the sun:
Eighth Grade, July 13
youtube
The voice of Agnes in Despicable Me is all grown up! And she’s facing the painful, cringe-worthy middle school years we all have to get through. Bo Burnham’s feature film debut, Eighth Grade, promises to take a sincere and comedic look at the reality of those awkward stages in-between playground and prom—with bonus insight into what 2018 middle schoolers are experiencing.
Aside from the delightful trailer, the film’s promise is held in its Rotten Tomatoes score. A few dozen early reviews gave it a critics consensus of 98%. That’s good news for Burnham and even better news for those of us who look back fondly as ourselves at our most earnest. –Alison Foreman
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, July 20
youtube
Slap on some sparkly boots and your favorite hairbrush microphone — we’re going back to a magical Greek island. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again has everything one could want in a prequel/sequel: ABBA songs, Christine Baranski, relationship ~ drama ~. Plus Lily James is playing young Meryl Streep and Cher (yes CHER) is playing Streep’s mother. Can you honestly think of anything more blissful than sitting in some nice air conditioning eating some popcorn and watching all that? I CANNOT. – Erin Strecker
Hot Summer Nights, July 27
youtube
A24 may have another indie smash hit this summer — luckily, with a lighter tone than the record-breaking Hereditary.
In ’90s Cape Cod, Daniel is trying to stumble his way through adolescence when he smokes weed for the first time. Rather than extrapolate on the size of the universe or scarf down a large cheese pizza, he opts to haphazardly enter the world of drug dealing.
Alongside It Follows star Maika Monroe, Timothée Chalamet seems primed to explore more of the Ladybird era with an exciting storyline that will begin as mischief, but quickly descend into mayhem. I love Timothée. I love drama. I love turquoise and pink cups. Let’s go. –Alison Foreman
Better Call Saul Season 4, Aug. 6
youtube
Better Call Saul’s third season finale was a heartbreaker, a tearjerker, an absolute jaw-dropper — which means that I’m facing Season 4 with equal parts dread and anticipation. We already know Mike’s gonna be okay, at least until he’s not. And we already know Jimmy won’t be, since he’s teetering on the edge of Saul-dom. But please, for the love of God, just tell me Kim makes it out of this thing unscathed. –Angie Han
The Meg, Aug. 10
youtube
Look, some days you just want to sit back, relax, and down a dino-sized bucket of popcorn while Jason Statham battles a prehistoric shark. And The Meg seems to be playing the tone exactly right, at least based on the marketing – leaning into the utter cheesiness of the premise with punny taglines (“pleased to eat you”) and on-the-nose song choices (“Beyond the Sea”). Because sometimes, the simple pleasures are the sweetest ones. –Angie Han
Insecure Season 3, Aug. 12
youtube
It’s nice to live in a time where you can choose your own millennial self-discovery series, and Insecure is arguably the best choice. Issa Rae has such a distinct and powerful voice in helming the series that it’s impossible to not feel part of her characters’ world when you watch. It’ll be a long summer, but I’m ready to see my friends again.-Proma Khosla
Crazy Rich Asians, Aug. 15
youtube
I first picked up Kevin Kwan’s addictive and extravagant novel in 2015, after my roommate became a recluse in the week that it took her to read it. This is a book that belongs on the big screen, where you can witness the unimaginable opulence of characters’ lives, relish the petty drama, and salivate over the food (someone fly me to Singapore, plz).-Proma Khosla
Spider-Man, Sept. 7
youtube
The web-slinger is swinging back into action on PlayStation 4 this summer and it looks absolutely amazing. Spider-Man allows you to step into the shoes and skin-tight suit of Spider-Man in an open recreation of New York City packed full of classic villains for you to live out your superhero fantasies in. It’s the most beautiful and smooth-looking Spider-Man game yet, and there’s no better way to ignore responsibilities and enjoy some AC than sinking dozens of hours into a Marvel simulator.-Kellen Beck

WEEKEND TV HOT FILM PICKS!
Check out my guide to the top films on TV this weekend and the best of the rest. Enjoy!
LATE FRIDAY 17th NOVEMBER
HOT PICKS!
Film4 @ 2100 Super 8 (2011) ****
Super 8 was never received as well as I expected. It felt to me like it came just at the right time. I was crying out for some homage to the 80’s. Recently in seeing the tremendous Netflix series Stranger Things I am well and truly crying out for more. So until that time - why not get a dose of 80’s with Super 8.
This film reminds me of all the great 80’s films with a cast of children - From E.T to The Goonies, they all have a place in my film appreciation heart. Super 8 is a fantastic Sci-Fi adventure. I was particularly impressed with how it transferred to the small screen and the train crash is extremely impressive even without a huge cinema screen and sound.
Set in 1979 a group of kids are making a zombie film with Super 8 camera. As they film by a railway track they witness a huge train crash and luckily escape unscathed. They begin to suspect it was no accident as a number of strange events take place in the town.
I’ve always been a fan of Abrams work. Especially Star Trek. I even tolerated his insistence of using copious amounts of lens flare. I thought that to a degree it worked really well in a futuristic, reflective surface filled space ship setting, but here we see once again lens flare features, and the more I watch it, the more it just sticks out like a sore thumb. Anyway - Regardless, Super 8 is a great little adventure. Watch this.
Sony @ 2100 The Game (1997) ****
David Fincher has done what he does best and created a rather dark, action packed thriller that absolutely must be seen. We follow Michael Douglas as the wealthy business man - Nicholas Van Orton, the man who has everything and is on the top of his game. His brother (Sean Penn) gets him a rather strange birthday present: a ticket to a company called CRS (Consumer Recreation Services) who specialise in custom fit games for wealthy executives, but this game turns out to be a lot more than anyone had bargained for as it begins to consume Van Orton’s entire life. This is an excellent thriller from the director of the amazing film Seven. There are some impressive and believable performances particularly from Michael Douglas and Sean Penn. This is a great story which you won’t forget in a hurry. A dark, intense and immersive thriller. Watch this.
Best of the rest:
ITV4 @ 2240 Cliffhanger (1993) ***
TCM @ 2300 Pulp Fiction (1994) *****
Horror @ 2325 Dog Soldiers (2002) ****
SATURDAY 18th NOVEMBER
HOT PICKS!
TCM @ 1900 Gremlins (1984) *****
Gremlins is a classic comedy horror. When a father gives a rather unusual pet to his son as a gift for Christmas he got a lot more than he bargained for. Billy has to stick to three important rules with his new pet. Don't feed it after midnight, keep it out of bright light and keep it well away from water. When he inadvertently breaks these rules, his new pet multiplies and these new additions to the family prove to be quite a handful indeed. Madness, Mayhem and destruction quickly descend on the town as these "Gremlins" go on a rampage the town will not forget in a hurry.
It's funny, sharp and with some splendid animatronics, Gremlins is a great fantasy adventure with almost slapstick style comedy that always gets a laugh. The stair lift scene will hold it's crown as one of the best comedy death scenes put to film. Joe Dante has directed some brilliant films. This is certainly one of my favourites.
Film4 @ 2300 Aliens (1986) *****
This time it’s War! Aliens is one of the most successful sequels of all time. It not only continued an amazing story with one of the most impressive extra-terrestrial beings ever seen on film but also completely changed the style. Ridley Scott’s original is an amazing accomplishment and stands tall as a fantastic Horror / Sci-Fi, with this sequel James Cameron injected a dangerous dose of action and adrenalin turning it into a high powered action adventure Sci-Fi that makes this film my personal favourite of the series of films. This is mainly down to the rich characters and great performances by everyone involved. The casting and character development creates high emotional attachment which adds to great effect as they one by one encounter the almost indestructible Xenomorphs with sometimes fatal consequences. Aliens is set 57 years after the original and Ripley has been in hyper sleep all this time. We follow a crack team of Marines with Ripley in tow as adviser as they go back to LV-426 after contact is lost by the Terra-forming colony there. It has amazing special effects for its time and had to rely on physical effects as opposed to today’s CGI saturated Sci-Fi films. This is an amazing action spectacular that simply must be seen. It’s also well worth investing in the Alien Anthology on Blu ray, it’s great value for money, both the image and sound is crisp and clear and worthy of being in everyone’s collection.
BBC2 @ 0120 Badlands (1973) *****
It’s only in recent years that I caught up with this classic and I’m disappointed it had taken me so long to see it. Terence Malick’s directorial debut is a beautifully shot road movie of young doomed love, based on the Starkweather-Fugate killing spree of the 1950s, where a teenage girl and her twenty-something boyfriend slaughtered her entire family and several others in the Dakota Badlands. Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek are mesmerising to watch as Malik’s perfectly pitched story unfolds. They embark on a killing spree across the Dakota Badlands. This is one of those classics that needs to be seen. A snap shot of film making history.
Best of the rest:
ITV4 @ 1435 The Alamo (1960) ****
5* @ 1640 The Fifth Element (1997) *****
TCM @ 2100 Pulp Fiction (1994) *****
Film4 @ 2100 Darkman (1990) ***
ITV4 @ 2205 American Gangster (2007) ****
Film4 @ 0205 Rare Exports (2010) ***
Horror @ 0235 Witchfinder General (1968) ****
SUNDAY 19th NOVEMBER
HOT PICKS!
ITV2 @ 1910 Inception (2010) *****
I still hold this film in high regard. In a world of remakes, sequels, prequels and reimaginings it was a delight to see something fresh, new and challenging. This film does have some serious merits. It immediately reminded me of Satoshi Kon’s brain twisting dream travelling Paprika from 2006 and I’m pretty sure Nolan must have taken some inspiration from it. Regardless, Inception is an amazing accomplishment, intoxicating and completely immersive. It’s a complex action packed Sci-Fi Thriller which could capture the complete attention of even the most fidgety of cinema goers. I’m always left in silence and awe.
Director - Nolan, Lead - DiCaprio, Music - Zimmer… now there’s a recipe for success. Watching Inception showcases all 3 and they can now stand a lot taller as their already king-like CV’s are boosted with an eternal stamp of skill and success. Huge kudos to the editor of this film. It really is micro-second perfect and cuts between the scenes seem more like master strokes of storytelling and really help drive home what is actually going on in this multi layered mind fuck.
For me this was one of the strongest films to come out of 2010 in a year with some serious competition.
TCM @ 2100 The Wicker Man (1973) *****
A classic sinister film oddity. A marvellously menacing creation. Still terrifying. Not only is this one of a kind but it always manages to unsettle me through its mysterious blend of powerful performance, creepy script and fabulously folky soundtrack. Don’t miss this.
Best of the rest:
ITV4 @ 1600 The Alamo (1960) ****
ITV2 @ 1720 Despicable Me (2010) ***
ITV4 @ 2100 Cliffhanger (1993) ***

Agents of Mayhem Review
Taking place after the events of Saints Row: Gat out of hell and set in Seoul the game is in the recreated world within the Saints Row universe and if you pre-ordered this game you would already know that you can in-fact get Johnny Gat as a playable character so there is no hiding that this title is linked to volitions Saints Row although not directly it’s not subtle about its beginnings either (not in the slightest).
The first thing I want to get into in this review is the art style, now for me personally I’m a big fan of non-realistic looking art styles (Cell-shading like borderlands is a personal favourite) and here it has to be said that during the vamped up 90’s cartoon style cut-scenes that occur are just stunning and depending on your age will remind of you some of the older cartoons you might’ve found on Cartoon Network way back in the day but of course made to look far more stunning and vibrant in AOM. In terms of the regular 3D rendered cut-scenes the models gleam a little too much making them look a little plastic. As for in game graphics very much like Saints row, artistically very similar and if anything just looks like an updated Saints Row IV, keeping the same sort of colour scheme as the game, naturally keeping its world’s tech and weaponry (whilst adding more wacky items).
As for the game itself, it keeps its sense of humour which as a fan of Saints Row I’ve always enjoyed. The games characters are all quirky and have their own unique personality that really stands out when you compare two against each other. There are many agents to collect and I only really played as Hollywood, Hardtack and Fortune (AKA the starting characters). Now each character has their own unique ability that when paired with other characters work a lot better so in part the game will be finding out what best fits your play style and which characters meld nicely according to your taste. Each character is upgradable in the sense that their powers can get stronger and that thing that makes them unique stand out a little more. The game generally feels and looks like a Saints Row crossed with Crackdown (Xbox Exclusive title). The city is open and generally populated by NPC’s although not as interactive as in a title like GTA they do their job in making the world feel a little less empty. Levelling in the game is simply by acquiring XP in which you can focus on your character as well as this there is such a thing called cores which will improve specific elements of a character. When first meeting a new agent you get to see a little bit of their origin and what motivated them to become an agent which is very interesting and makes the characters feel like they have an actual reason to be there my favourite so far being Rama’s intro.
Onto Game play mechanics, the game does play very nicely in this department it runs smooth and each animation is incredibly fluid, having a new GUI from Saints Row gives it a nice fresher feeling than seen in volitions last games, some of the crosshairs on your weapons can sometimes seem a big comically large but is often useful for when taking on larger crowds is the best way to go. The Mayhem abilities can seem somewhat bland when compared to what other games have to other but they add a little spice in what could be just another run and gun type game. Switching between 3 characters also adds that little variety into the game but for the most part it is a simple shoot this, blow this up style of game that doesn’t require too much thinking and sadly meaning it can tire quite quickly. What manages to save the game in part is its dialogue between the characters often a quick quip or a reference to something is always nice to see in any form of media. There is weapon creation which is always fun to work with using a system called Gremlin tech, you have to find parts for her (Gremlin is a female weapons engineer) to create you new and wacky weapons with incredibly deadly potential, some you’ll need to be a certain level to access.
Story, the story is a simple premise but one that plays out nicely, nothing too special and if you’re looking for something stand out I would have to say that you may not find it with this game, this is more the kill a couple of hours and generally enjoy it whilst I do so type of game.
Not something I usually bring up in reviews or discussions but I did want to mention that I think in terms of ethnic characters I believe the developers did an amazing job it was a real joy seeing and hearing characters from various places across the world. It was especially nice to hear South American voice actors/actresses in the game and see how their personalities mixed with the various other characters. Also nice to see a balance between Male and Female characters neither seeming more dominant or helpless than in some other titles. Although most accents in the game I.e. the French are meant to sound comically stereotypical it’s still nice to hear some variety.
Player Review: 6/10 – Nothing ground breaking but if you’re looking to have some fun and kill some time, whilst looking out for references and being caught on the vibrant colour vibes of the game then this is your baby. Won’t take too long to finish and won’t leave a sour taste in your mouth. Perfect!
Stat Plus + If you are a Saints Row Fan and have followed the series or even if you just played Gat out of hell and enjoyed it then this may appeal to you more.
Stat – If you don’t like any of the Saints row titles and maybe if you’ve seen Saints row but never liked the look of it then maybe you should give this a miss and wait for something a little different to come out.
Dev Review: 7/10, A very colourful 3rd person shooter with excellent animation, voice acting and a unique art style. Nothing revolutionary but easily something you could call AAA, would use as a reference if you’re thinking about creating a 3rd person open world or a simple waved based shooter because I feel that if you were more of an indie dev, this would be a lot simpler and quite cool as a stylistic wave based shooter where each character has a unique ability than can be upgraded.

One grandmother has found a way to help her daughter out from miles away.
[ad_1]
This tech-savvy grandma can notify you all about AutoRap and JibJab.
For Lisa Carpenter, the day her daughter introduced her being pregnant was both remarkable and heartbreaking.
Lisa was thrilled to develop into a grandmother and wished to be in her grandson's lifetime — but her daughter lived extra than 800 miles away.
"They experienced our initial grandson [Brayden] in 2008," Lisa states, "which was fabulous news when they introduced the being pregnant but horribly difficult on my coronary heart as I only could not understand how I would endure as a long-length grandma."
Lisa, Jim, and their a few daughters. All photographs through Lisa Carpenter, utilised with permission.
Lisa and her partner, Jim, settled in Colorado Springs right after their marriage ceremony 35 a long time back.
They elevated their a few daughters — Briana, Megan, and Andrea — with the majestic magnificence of Pikes Peak as the backdrop to their life. Even though two daughters settled shut to household, one particular moved to Arizona and started her own relatives there.
As their children bought more mature, Lisa and Jim faced what so a lot of other people have: a relatives that is unfold out and grandkids who are much too far away to see typically.
Brayden, Camden, and Declan pause playtime for a speedy image.
Refusing to permit length stop her from setting up a relationship with her grandkids, Lisa turned to tech to bridge the hole.
As section of her coping system, she started running a blog about her knowledge. Eight a long time later on, she's created a local community and conjures up other grandparents to locate inventive methods to join with their long-length grandkids.
Very first, she started with Skype. But when infant #two was born, the pleasure of Skype was promptly overshadowed by a fundamental obstacle: How do you get two children to sit in entrance of a screen for any substantial period of time of time?
Enter: FaceTime.
"FaceTime is a great deal easier," Lisa states. "Now all a few boys can just take turns with the phone with Gramma and PawDad [the name one particular grandson gave his grandad when he bought a little bit combined up striving to say grandpa]. Sometimes we see a ton of ceilings as they wander all-around the residence talking, or they never fairly get their faces on the screen and it is really an arm or belly we are viewing."
A small FaceTime motion.
She gets to pitch in and just take some pressure off her daughter, much too. "We normally FaceTime though mom's generating meal so it keeps them active though she's prepping," Lisa describes.
The phone gave Lisa a lifeline to keep on being involved as a long-length grandparent.
She receives texts typically, with pictures of the boys all-around the residence. And it’s not a one particular-way avenue: Lisa and Jim use applications like JibJab to make small videos and demonstrate the children that grandparents can be foolish, much too. She even persuaded 9-year-old James, her oldest daughter’s stepson, to remix "Aged MacDonald" with her applying AutoRap.
Lisa and James share a sweet instant.
However, there have been problems.
"I would like to Skype, FaceTime, just plain communicate on the phone extra typically than is effective for my daughter's plan," Lisa shares. "I was initial offended by that and it took me a little bit to know I need to have to be considerate of the time it requires to interact from afar."
Brayden, Camden, and Declan cheesing through Easter festivities.
Now, as a substitute of being annoyed, Lisa appreciates the time that her daughter puts in to keep her related with the small ones in amongst visits.
Hiccups aside, sustaining a electronic relationship has been incredibly fulfilling.
When her youngest grandson was triggering gentle mayhem through his brother’s baseball recreation, it was grandma to the rescue. Her daughter permit him FaceTime with Lisa, and from 800 miles away, she gave her daughter the break she necessary to look at her other son engage in.
James has a design instant.
But her most loved memory is of a small concept her center grandson shared. He still left her a ToyMail concept — they call them "snorts" — that mentioned "Hey, Gramma! I hope you might be owning a good day! Enjoy ya!"
"That was it. And that produced my day," states Lisa.
Lisa and Jim get some in-person time with the a few boys.
Lisa — and the a lot of grandparents like her — are evidence that the stereotype of the tech-illiterate grandparent is extra than a small outdated.
"Becoming equipped to remain in contact from afar is the only way I endure as a long-length grandmother," states Lisa. "I know some grandparents who go to be in close proximity to their grandkids, and that is one thing my partner and I only is not going to do for a assortment of causes."
"Possessing the capacity to FaceTime and text and share this and that through several applications and this sort of keeps me from regretting that decision, keeps me sensation like a applicable — and remembered — power in the life of my beloved grandsons."

15 Necessary Things Should Know Before Visiting Las Vegas
Should Know Before Visiting Las Vegas
Just puzzling over a visit to Las Vegas gets our heart pumping and endorphin's flowing. Sin town is extremely thought to be one in all the foremost well-liked, exciting, and picture cities within the world, giving everything from continuous gambling & jaw-dropping design to an epic club scene and connoisseur restaurants. It's virtually not possible to be bored here, and even the foremost frequent Las Vegas guests notice one thing new anytime they visit. That said, there's a small amount of AN adjustment amount for first-time guests World Health Organization might feel overcome or shocked by the laws, offerings, and customs that disagree greatly from most different U.S. cities. scan on for our list of fourteen necessary things to understand before you create your 1st (and positively not you are last) visit to Las Vegas.
You actually ought to wait till you're twenty-one
Over the years, Las Vegas has created brave efforts to bill itself as a family-friendly destination. although there are still several activities for the underneath twenty-one set, Sin town continues to be best enjoyed with a sound ID that proves you'll be able to lawfully drink. the town is incredibly a lot of back-geared towards adults and there's a strictly implemented curfew: no unaccompanied minors on the streets when nine p.m. Dealers, security guards, and bartenders check IDs on virtually everybody, therefore it's best to attend and visit Las Vegas once you're the right age to participate in everything the town has got to supply.
You'll wrongfully drink on the road
Las Vegas is during all among-st in every of or the few places within the US wherever it's dead legal to run down the road with a cocktail (as long as it's not in a glass container). You'll positively see revelers taking part during this recreation additionally as realize bars that are very little over windows that sell huge novelty drinks. That said, open containers aren't allowed in cars, and if you act sort of a drunk fool on the road, a cop will charge you with the misdemeanor.
This is an area to sleep for each budget
Las Vegas caters to each budget with an enormous vary of building choices at varied value points. You'll splash out with a two-story loft and Rolls Royce landing field transfer at the Aria Sky Suites, or use a budget space at wader urban center building & Casino as a convenient and clean place to shower and sleep. For one thing within the middle, we tend to just like the stylish Delano urban center. No matter what value purpose you wish, we tend to powerfully recommend first-time guests decide a building on the or so four-mile Strip. It's within the heart of the action and you'll find yourself saving time and cash in transportation prices.
The food scene is top-notch
All-you-can-eat buffets are still alive and well in the urban center, as are cafeteria-style joints mercantilism low-cost hot dogs and pizza pie slices. However, within the past fifteen years, the eating place scene in the urban center has become one in every of the most effective within the world.
Every celebrity cook price hanged their salt features a Vegas outpost: Wolfgang Puck, Nobu Matsuhisa, José Andrés, and Joël Robuchon have all brought extreme fine-dining to the desert. And if you've seen them on the Food Network, they doubtless have a Vegas restaurant: Giada American state Laurenti is (we noticed her reviewing photos of avocado toast on one flight to Vegas), Guy Fieri, and officer peel all have somebody Vegas restaurants. Beloved la eateries like In-N-Out Burger and Egg Slut have additionally rapt east.
You can't hail a taxi on the road

Summer entertainment we (still) can't wait for
