contacts are scary! imagine forgetting to take them out for too long and they start to rot and fester and chafe and merge with your eyeballs. you can’t remove them now! your vision becomes a haze of mold and blood and mucus and your eyes scream and youre always crying now. and when you go to a doctor they laugh at you and tell you you should have taken them out, you knew that!

When I was in middle school, for no real reason in particular, I decided to learn the entire schedule of a girl in my English class. I had no plans to use the information for anything. I think I just wanted to know if I could. She never found out I was doing this and I learned quite a lot about her in that time. I remember feeling immensely satisfied with each new piece of information.

Unfortunately, I managed to forget literally everything from this between the end of that school year and the start of the next. I barely even remember her name, and even the class I said I shared with her is a guess, as I somehow have memories of both being in that class with her and making a note of her going to an entirely different class taking place at the same time.

Little Eyelet accidentally picked a Stranger as a target, I see.

I vividly remember that when I was smaller the fact that things that are *microscopically small* could hurt me was terrifying. Germs, parasites, spores, things of that type. Honestly just the fact that the body can fail you in any number of ways at any time was scarier then I could easily express at the time. Any idea what that fear may fall under?

When I was recovering from a surgery and on the prescribed opioid pain meds, I had an interesting experience

I had just woken up from a nap, and was walking to the table for dinner when I noticed everything around me was wrong - it was identical to what was normal, but it was wrong

Then, I realised I was still dreaming, so I woke myself up, got off the couch again, started walking towards the table for dinner again, when I realised again that everything was wrong. I can’t stress enough that it was a 100% identical space to what was normal, and despite this, was just inherently incorrect (specifically the area/objects, the people present were fine and dandy)

Lo and behold, I was actually still dreaming, so I woke myself up again and started the process over. This repeated a good 4 or 5 more times before I actually woke up for real and got dinner, and at the time it was super disconcerting. I was afraid for quite some time that I’d suddenly notice I was actually asleep, and nothing had been real up for the past however-long.

Anyway, I’ve long since been taken by The Spiral between now and then, but I’d be interested to hear what other Fears might have been lingering on the edges back then :) hope my statement made a nice snack!
