merry christmas & happy winter holidays to all!

hi, this is a little personal post, but i wanted to properly announce my return to this blog and promise more frequent updates! there's a lot of interviews and books i own that haven't been translated yet (though i'm happy to see that @turtleations has been working really hard and uploading many of them! for example i'm grateful and relieved that i don't need to do 'pink cloudy sky' because that's already been beautifully handled ♡ slay)

there is a good personal reason for my long absence, but it's not really relevant or worth talking about on here; i'm just excited to finally have more time to myself and be able to return to my passion which is translating vkei stuff and rambling about it to other fans (and anyone who will be kind enough to listen, really).

i'm actually finishing my MA in creative & specialized translation this year, so i'll definitely be busy, but that will not stop me from dedicating my time and energy to my hobbies lol (long live adhd and reasonable priorities)

thank you for following me here even when i wasn't really active and i'm excited to share more of my wips and collections with you in 2025!

Thinking about the portrayal of ancestry in Horizons.

#something about depicting adult characters as full people with their own motivations and lives as opposed to just making them flat #or not going deeper than a dichotomy between bad and good. it's refreshing to see stuff that feels real and poignant #i've been rotating rystal gibeon crave quite a lot in my mind lately. love the implications here and there about rystal and leyla #not telling you everything but leaving enough implications to imagine stuff.. i can think of a whole life for rystal and it's neat.#also i like that.. every family member feels like their own person. that thing about everyone having their own life and feelings.#liko is different from lucca and diana. but there are still moments which feel affectionate where you can think she takes after them #refreshing take on ancestry tbh. it strikes delicate balance between knowing your roots and past and finding yourself #learning about past tragedies to give them proper closure because you can't do that if you don't know what happened #even with gibeon.. very pleased and impressed that they are putting care in his character's depiction #specifically showing him as a young man and giving depth and perspective to him. allowing him to be a full character.#instead of just saying he is terrible and ending it at that. he gets to be someone with dreams and motivations and relationships #we've seen little of crave but the implications are there to pick apart and they are interesting #it genuinely enriches amethio's character and his side of the story. to make his relatives distinct people with their own perspectives #like.. instead of just saying his relatives are the worst evil!! they are putting care in the depiction and make them nuanced #characters who feel real.. strained and messy relationships with room for growth and development #definitely gives me more appreciation for the narrative in general. it's a kind of story that i find appealing #actually pleased that ame's side of the story is like that.. it could have been flat but thankfully it isn't.#stories with multiple layers and perspectives to them. my beloved.#anyway the portrayal of ancestry and adult characters in horizons is neat. and interesting.#the way they are tackling that kind of narrative to add to characters like liko and amethio. it's cool #hopefully. we get more on gibeon soon. he specifically has me intrigued.. him and crave too.#the writers definitely have specific themes they like and it shows through the story.. it's neat.#character notes

yo guys it's nearly 2024 (for me at least)

soooooo aaaaah pretty damn eventful year huh? lotta stuff happened! some of it extremely exciting for me, some of it extremely not good!!

buuuuut these last few months have been, some of the most insane and crazy months i've had in a very, very long time. i moved myself entirely off of instagram and started posting my art here in August of this year, and, can i just say something?

the amount of support you've all been giving to me in such a short span of time has been nothing short of absolutely insane to me, and i cannot thank each and every one of you enough. you're all so freaking nice and kind and awesome and i mean that!!! i never would've imagined getting to meet up and talk with so many amazing artist and fellow users and i just. i already feel myself wanting to tear up just saying this but, i love all of you guys so much. (platonically of course!!!!)

i already screamed about a bunch of you the other day so i won't bother you guys too much, just wanted to let you all know how much you mean to me okay?? i hope all of you are doing so good right now and if you're not, that's okay. next year will be better alright? we've all got each other here so let's take care and support ourselves 👍👍

study smart not hard (altough both is best actually) this saying is so true

#my advice #but this saying is sooo true #i know some people at uni who study for exam so long and hard but then fail or just barely make it :(#like what are you doing? i don't mean this in a mean way but it doesn't have to be this difficult #i don't understand how some people can study for an exam for 2 weeks or even a month and still fail and i don't think they're stupid #or i don't see myself as particulary smart #but i guess they just waste their time a lot and i realized studying effective is so important #now everyone is a bit different and has to find what works best for them but there are certain techniques which are proven to work well #there is so much information on the internet on this look it up seriously #it made my life sm easier i never struggled in uni like i did in school and i get good grades #and if i ever struggled a bit it was because i started so late it was almost impossible to pass 😂#which is why to do both is still best 😂#but i actually always made it and i never failed an exam at uni (which i studied for)#(two i was fooled into to just try without studying bc it's easy lol)#i mean i shouldn't speak too soon but i already made it through some of the most difficult of my studies #ofc it depends on what you study how well this works but i'm speaking for myself #i once passed an exam with a B studying only 2 days as one of the best students while others studied 2 weeks #and got worse grades or failed #still studying only 2 days is stupidity don't do it 😅#so the techniques i find very helpful are ofc exam questions probably the best one #if there are none make your own #then blurting for which there are different ways but i like to just go over a topic and then write down everything i remember #then fill the gaps #quizlet is also great it's an app which allows you to create cards and then tests you in creative ways #videos can be helpful as well for summaries and using summaries in general is normally enough it saves you sm time #normally you don't actually need to know everything but you should be careful it's not a bad summary leaving out too much 😅#and i also like mindmaps bc i'm a very visual person #but all those tipps are mostly for remembering information so it doesn't work so well for other fields of study #well i hope this is somewhat helpful idk 🙈#oh and reading texts over and over again is the most useless in my opinion i don't remember much at all and it takes sm time

I don't have time for people who don't have time for me

#yes yes i know adult life leaves little room for spending time with people who you care about & even if we have time we're burnt out #but my whole adult life has been white-knuckled clinging to relationships or people that barely if ever send that energy back #as soon as theyre onto the next person that will entertain them. as soon as theyve found something to fill the time that i usually take up #as soon as theyve gotten all they wanted from me emotionally. as soon as its inconvient to see me. almost as soon as theyre bored #then suddenly its me waiting for a text. waiting for a day to hang out. hearing over and over again that yet another thing is more importan #than me. and i get it. life happens. schools important. work is important. rest is important. but at the point im at in my life #im looking for people who actually make an effort not just give months and months of excuses as to why they suddenly cant hang out #im a pushover. im easy-going. im a very understanding person. i get it bc theres also very few days per week that im free to socialize #but i cant keep letting myself act subservient to everyone else in my life. i always put my friends & potential friends so high on pedestal #i treat them & their time as precious. now i refuse to let someone do anything but the same for me. my time/energy/love is just as precious #i dont deserve only a text when you need something from me or just to act as a treat to tide me over until the next transgression #and i certainly am NOT going to be the person that you can stand-up and then expect to still answer your text. not anymore.#in prioritizing my mental health lately ive realized that this pattern HAS TO STOP. i cant allow myself to continue the same harmful cycles #i deserve better. i need better. i WANT BETTER #emma vents #vent tag #healing tag
