Day 27: Favorite fiction book
This prompt seem a little bit too wide, I wonder if the person who initially made this intended for this for be a literary fiction prompt? So I decided to limit the prompt to that and went on to Storygraph to see what books I have read that are tagged as literary fiction. To my surprise I don’t read a lot of books with that tag, which is odd because I thought I’d read quite a few. Maybe my…

How to catch a thief
ada + catching a (very particular) thief - the guy of the hour is @artnazoy's oc
He was close; Atsushi could feel it.
Transforming wasn’t needed to make use of his tiger senses, and despite not being entirely familiar with the suspect’s smell, hearing hurried steps coming into a halt and heavy panting told him everything he needed to know. Well, he wasn’t technically a suspect since Hiraide Takashi had been proven effectively guilty of all those robberies along with some other crimes, but still.
Atsushi waited for a moment, only until he could sense both Kunikida and Kyôka’s scent close by. Then, after making sure his back was covered, he took a couple of steps back to gain momentum and revealed his presence by launching himself against the man.
“Hiraide-san, you’re going to be arrested.” After a bit of a struggle, Atsushi managed to immobilize him, still without transforming.
Damn, training with Kunikida was indeed paying off. Not like he had doubted, though.
“That’s what you think, kid!” Hiraide wasn’t anymore able to break free from his hold as he was thirty seconds ago, but he could grab Atsushi’s wrist without doing so. At the same time, light started surrounding them both…
… and nothing seemed to change, either in Atsushi or their surroundings.
“So… it’s something supposed to happen… or…?” Any worries he might have at first turned quickly into plain awkwardness. Meanwhile, the thief’s face was starting to have the most evident shock drawn all over it.
“Why? It’s worked with everyone so far! It even worked with that soldier from–”
“Your ability turns people into cats, right.” Kunikida asked, as he and Kyôka finally entered the scene.
“Yeah, and your point is…?” Hiraide asked, making Kyôka snicker for a second.
“You cannot turn a cat into a cat, it seems.” She shrugged, pointing her knife towards the now captured man.
“I’m a tiger, not a housecat, c’mon.” Atsushi rolled his eyes, even when he wasn’t really mad about the comment. Quite the opposite; he was used to it at that point, and complaining was more force of habit than anything.
Besides, tigers were indeed big cats. And since that ability had no effect on him… well, there was no point in arguing either.
(Also on ao3.)

East Asian literature/movies/shows I’ve been currently enjoying and falling in love with:
Already consumed:
The housekeeper and the professor (or my preferred title: Professor’s beloved equation) by Yōko Ogawa – Japanese slice of life (find my short review here)
My neighbor Totoro by Studio Ghibli
Revenge: Eleven dark tales by Yōko Ogawa – slice of life-ish horror
First Love: Hatsukoi – slice of life Japanese romance (find my analysis here)
Little Forest – Korean slice of life movie
Something in the rain – Korean slice of life romance
If cats disappeared from the world by Genki Kawamura – Japanese slice of life meets Goethe’s Faust
The guest cat by Takashi Hiraide – the most slice of life book I’ve read
When the weather is fine – korean slice of life romance (find my posts about it here and here)
The Memory Police by Yōko Ogawa – dystopian fiction (if you enjoyed Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury you’ll love that too)
I will be your bloom – Japanese… I don’t even know how to describe the genre – it was wild, weird and wonderful (the analysis will be coming your way soon)
Sweet bean paste by Durian Sukegawa – Japanese slice of life
Your eyes tell – Japanese drama/romance – it wrecked me thank you very much, can’t recommend it enough
Please look after my mom by Kyung-sook Shin – Korean drama, very emotional
Norwegian wood by Haruki Murakami – Japanese romance, psychological drama
Currently consuming:
Garden by Hiroko Oyamada
To be consumed:
Ponyo by Studio Ghibli
Arrietty by Studio Ghibli
The wind rises by Studio Ghibli
Love like the falling petals – Japanese romance movie

East Asian literature/movies/shows I've been currently enjoying:
The housekeeper and the professor (or my preferred title: Professor's beloved equation) by Yöko Ogawa – Japanese slice of life (find my short review here)
My neighbor Totoro by Studio Ghibli
Revenge: Eleven dark tales by Yöko Ogawa – slice of life-ish horror, truly grew on me
First Love: Hatsukoi – slice of life Japanese romance (find my analysis here), best thing I’ve ever watched
Little Forest – Korean slice of life movie, lots of food shots
Something in the rain – Korean slice of life romance
If cats disappeared from the world by Genki Kawamura – Japanese slice of life meets Goethe's Faust (but executes the trope better)
The guest cat by Takashi Hiraide – the most slice of life book I've read, very meditative
When the weather is fine – korean slice of life romance (find my posts about it here and here)
The Memory Police by Yöko Ogawa – dystopian fiction (if you enjoyed Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury you'll love that too)
I will be your bloom – Japanese... I don't even know how to describe the genre, it was wild, weird and wonderful, but won’t be everyone’s cup of tea
Sweet bean paste by Durian Sukegawa – Japanese slice of life, excellent in every detail
Your eyes tell – Japanese drama/romance – it wrecked me thank you very much, can't recommend it enough
Please look after my mom by Kyung-sook Shin – Korean drama, very emotional
Norwegian wood by Haruki Murakami – Japanese romance, psychological drama, but I wouldn’t call it a favorite
Crash course in romance – Korean rom com, quite enjoyable and fun to watch, really adorable and funny
Nowhere to be found by Bae Suah – a parabolic slice of life short story
Walking Practice by Dolki Min – a horror existential story about being human, not for everyone (tbh not really for me, but I was the editor of the translated version in my country)
Summer strike – aesthetic, calming and full of kdrama (fits the canon 100%), if it wasn’t for the murder case it would be perfect
Turn to me, Mukai-kun – honestly it felt like 90% of the characters on that show were either aro, ace or both and I’m so here for it
The setting sun by Osamu Dazai – a classic when it comes to today’s Japanese literature, I see the value of the story, but didn’t love it as I thought I would
Diary of a Void by Emi Yagi – weird, creepy at times, both comforting and confusing, gave me the same kind of chills as Revenge by Yōko Ogawa
Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata – an amazing short story about intolerance, surface level relationships and the incredible mechanism where men feel entitled to use women both when they conform to social expectations and when they decide to live against them
Doctor slump – heartwarming and emotional, I laughed, I cried, despite being a romance it had a great plot line about mental illnesses
Welcome to Samdal-ri – for everyone who feels overwhelmed by the world and needs a place to return to, very emotional, I cried like a baby more than once, would watch three more seasons of it
