I’m sorry to be constantly comparing Little Mermaid and Emily Windsnap so much, but, just realized another similarity...Mr. Beeston and Ursula/Vanessa both turned human to mind-control a human into forgetting the merperson they fell in love with.  Makes me wonder what the movie version of Beeston will be like.

Yes!

Jake makes jewelry, and he's a creative. It certainly seems something that he'd love doing. I bet he does Emily's hair sometimes too.

Your Emily Windsnap drawings are so cute! I've never seen any illustrations of Mary Penelope, what were your influences for drawing her?

I've got to be honest I'm sorry for not answering this in 2021, but when I drew more Emily Windsnap, I kind of just made her look like Emily because it was mentioned they looked similar but that Emily was more scrawny.

this is exactly how I headcanon Jake Windsnap to be after his 12 years in prison. he started out being so malnourished and skinny (and paler too for not being under the sun for so long).

but since getting out, he starts gaining weight and developing a bit of a dad bod as he spends more time to relax more and eat more. he also becomes a bit buffer too for spending so much time on land as a merman

Your Merman!Odysseus drawing reminds me of "The Tail of Emily Windsnap". Where Poseidon/Neptune keeps a merman away for years from his human wife named..wait for it...PENELOPE ;) .

Meanwhile just like Telemachus his kid takes a boat to go searching for him.

Oh interesting!! I have never actually heard of that story. Also calling him a merman is a wee bit of a stretch. He’s more of a snake/eel mix (sea serpent).

I remember a while back you wrote some stuff about Jake Windsnap’s family! Mainly on how they’d react to him marrying a human. What do you imagine they were like? And how much do you think Emily’s life would change if they were part of her story? Or at least mentioned?

So, seeing as they are never mentioned, I figure that probably means that they didn't approve of Jake marrying a human. If they were dead, he'd probably mention them, but he doesn't which implies, at least to me that they don't have a positive relationship.

Jake probably didn't tell them about the 'marrying a human' thing, and once they found out they completely stopped talking to Jake.

If Emily's paternal family had been interested in her while Jake was gone, I could imagine them trying to lure her into the water so they could speak to her, and Emily being kind of aware of mermaids, but not fully. Like there's these weird people with fish tails in the water who say they're her grandparents/aunts/uncles/ etc. Her mom thinks that she just has an imagination.

I too wish more Greek myth adaptations showed Poseidon as the enemy/bad guy/villain. He really is a jerk in the myths 🤣🔱.

Aside from “The Odyssey”, “The Tail of Emily Windsnap” also depicts Poseidon as a bad guy. Granted that book calls him by his Roman name Neptune.

yep, it makes way more sense for Poseidon to be the bad guy than Hades (though I dislike both.)

I mean, the guy has serious anger and entitlement issues, has graped people, coerced Amphitrite into marrying him, has clear resentment and bitterness about not inheriting the skies despite being older, is petty as hell and is a champion at holding grudges. If anything, Pjo and Disney did his character a disservice. Both Epic the musical and Record of ragnarok come the closest when it comes to his actual personality and temperament.
