Hi! Big fan of your blog and art. I’m interested in trying quilting, and I have access to a sewing machine, but I don’t have hardly any fabric to work with. How did you build a stash of scraps for your quilting projects? Where do you get your new fabric from?
hi! thanks! here is where i get fabric, kind of in order of practicality/thrift, some points may not be useful unless you live where i live:
the local fabric thrift store
the sheet section at savers. or other sections even
my buy nothing group
clothes i owned that died badly (avoid using knits, e.g. tshirts)
unwise impulse decisions in the quilting store
the weird noncontiguous fabric store near my old job. great for muslins and (don't quilt with this) polyester stretch velvet
joanns i GUESS (yucky polyester content if you're not careful)
gifts from friends/my mom who is my friend
etsy in general; this is where I've got the two rifle paper co prints I've used to death
etsy specific: the japanese fabric import store i'm simply bewitched by (kimonomomo)
spoonflower if you're narsty
the scraps bags they sell at the sewing store in cambridge MA
anywhere i traveled to this past year i tried to hit up a fabric store and grab a few fat quarters as a souvenir
fabric dot com which no longer exists but I'm still working through the corduroy i bought there in 2020
i did some garment sewing before quilting so i had a lot of Bits cut out of yardage on hand—i find fat quarters can inspire a lot more preciousness than loosey goosey repurposing A Weird Little Bit
also i get joy from the consumerism aspect of the hobby 😑 this year is about using the stash up and not adding to it for me. don't tell that to my quilt store date this weekend

POUCH!
@bigcats-birds-and-books asked for a pouch to keep masks and things safe in a bag :) years and years ago, someone made me something similar but smaller and I just sat and stared at that for a while before Doing This. Thinking back, I probably should've done a mock up in scrap fabric but nothing went horribly wrong so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
last photo it's stuffed with one of those grocery bags that fold up and fit in a pocket. This was fun and healing and a good brain scratcher thank you!!

Niche Memes I Have Made About Sewing And/Or Theater And/Or Sewing For Theater
A while ago I posted this image I made to represent the emotion of "When the costume shop manager is being particularly difficult"
Tumblr media
(This is the iconic graphic design of the website offstagejobs.com)
And now I'd like to share various memes I have made about work in the hopes of finding some theater tech and/or sewing solidarity.
This one is "When you have to sew on your domestic machine at home after sewing on the industrial machine all day"
Tumblr media
This one is "When you're stressed at work so you turn on "Appalachian Spring" to calm down but it's not working so the vibe is like:"
Tumblr media
(That one's pretty specific).
These two are untitled:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This one's more of a general industry meme:

Ok this one is titled "After sewing all day and then going home and doing crafts and then doing craft projects all weekend"
Tumblr media
And this last one is "Stuff in my Shakeapeare theater costume stock that just makes sense: Like twenty strawberry handkerchiefs"
Tumblr media
Thank you for your time, niche memes are my passion.

I finished sewing my first little coffin shaped purse with this pattern for little coffin shaped purses (the In Memoriam pattern from Starling Stitches) and while there’s tiny things I would change about the pattern itself (making the interior illustrations more friendly to grayscale printing, basically) it was a fucking delight to sew. Hugely hugely satisfying to be able to sit down and finish a project, especially when my current big project has been hobbled by cat interference.
Tumblr media
(Pic taken from the listing, obviously, not my own make. I don’t want to bother getting out of bed for that tbh.)
Next time I make it, I’m doing to do it as an ita bag. Gotta store my macabre pin collection somewhere, gang.

I've updated my ko-fi store! I have a restock of some items but also two new plushies and the exciting bit: made to order plushies! I have a four at the moment of some popular and requested plushies that I'll make on demand rather than have to be requested through a commission!
Thanks for checking out and supporting my work!

does anyone have any professional plus size dress forms theyd recommend? im preferably looking for the style that has the start of legs, not one thats joined all the way down.
ill take any reccs regardless of budget but i am looking for something on the cheaper end (of the prices good, body accurate forms can be, anyway!)
(im uk based, if that makes a difference)

Being able to sew your own clothes may not be the most accessible things (especially sustainably) but I will forever be an advocate for being able to MEND your own clothes
Even if it’s a kinda ugly whip stitch on the inside of your shirt or a ladder stitch to adjust the size of some jeans or a mismatching patch on the sole of your socks— literally anything that’ll make your clothes last longer, even if it just means they’ll last long enough for you to give it away to someone else
And then when it can no longer be mended, use it to mend other clothes
