Aligned universe: a gladiator turned poet and an archivist work together to earn people rights, disagree on how and start an extinction class civil war over it. Neither can let go, both are different types of delusional about it. This is where the fandom gets the ‘old friend’ thing, though it’s shared with Ratchet.

Animated: Leader of the Decepticons gets beaten by this college dropout who will NOT let him hurt Earth. Rivalry ensues. I would like to note that due to the hilarious sizing of the Autobots and Decepticons in TFA, Optimus is like half Megatron size

Transformers One: Best friends fall into a main character quest, learn their lives are a lie and their idol is the worst (he invented the racism they’ve been suffering under and is working for the enemy), and have different levels of reaction to it. One crashed out so much more aggressively that it’s toxic enough the other banishes him. “We were brothers once. Once.” Fun fact: this movie is what finally made MegaOp the most popular transformer relationship on ao3. Until this point they were being beaten out by a crack ship of two characters who barely get to interact outside of comics

Bay-verse: I don’t know the full history, but I know they worked closely together before Megatron betrayed Optimus; Megatron was basically equal power to Optimus, but a military leader instead of a governing one. (This is where the fandom got Lord Protector or Lord High Protector, which canon meant as brotherhood but everyone else uses for romance). Turned against him for some power or something. Saves Optimus before trying to kill him and dying instead

IDW: I do not know the details and am not going to go down that research rabbit hole today. One of, if not the first place that gave Megatron the whole ‘revolutionary leader turned dictator’ backstory, and had Optimus help him until the dictator thing (Prime was a cop here though), and I think also the first place that had him at the end of the war turn from Decepticon to Autobot, and all the angst that ensues from that.

Earthspark: Post-war. Megatron swapped sides last minute, so now the two old men are working together. I don’t think EarthSpark explains their past so much as banks on fans knowing previous history and stories and precedences from other continuities, it’s just taking all the tension from everything else and showing the after ig?

G1: I have no clue. They’re just like that

What’s even better is we the fans don’t just use canon, but make our own scrap too. Ever heard of EM fields? Detailed wing speak or seeker cant? All the inhuman/animalistic behavior stuff (flaring armour, finials, all the hissing, growling, purring, etc.)?

Not only do we have scissors and glue, but a stack of post-it notes and markers to make up our own stuff too.

Do you find this to be true?

This reminds me of my long term goal to have a character in a fic of mine call Alfred a “spook motherfucker” the second they meet him because they were in the military and they know a spook (retired or not) when they see one.

Bonus points if it’s said like, right in front of Thomas Wayne while he’s trying to hire Alfred. Alfred, who insists he didn’t have anything to do with the military (technically true after a point) and absolutely knows the difference between silver plate polish and silver polish.

I don’t know how long it was there for, but if you use Ao3, please know that up until the last week or so, jazzprowl had more fics than MegaOp.

It seems Transformers One has finally pushed megaop beyond jazzprowl, but that’s by less than 20 fics as I’m typing this.

PLEASE say more about the history of the jzzprwl ship cause I did not know it was a crack ship to begin with and would love to know more/if you could link me to where I could read more about it, I would appreciate it ^^

But from what I heard like a long time ago

As in literal decades

Someone made a Jazz/Prowl fic for fun as a crackship and it just kinda stuck

The fandom latched on and people absolutely loved it and as a consequence TF writers have noticed the fan perception and and started writing them to be just generally engaging with each other more

Hence IDW and TFA's adaptation of them (which are the main adaptations people tend to ship them in)

Like quite literally the reason they're so popular is someone made a crackship fic of them and people loved it

Thats how it started and it just exploded to the point its one of if not the most popular ships in the fandom with the only one that really rivals it being megop which is the two MAIN guys who have constant beef with each other

Megop gets almost outclassed by the gay fuckers who literally almost never engaged in G1 lmao

The first time he sees you strolling the streets of Fontaine with a glint of wonder in your eyes, he thinks he must have finally lost it. He has to rub his eyes and check a few dozen times before he's certain that you are, in fact, real and not some figment of his imagination conjured by a lack of sleep and overdose on caffeine.

..Though now that he gets a better look, it's not quite the same. Like a smudged painting, he thinks. Still, the uncanny resemblance to the visage of the Divine One has him lingering around the area just to stare a little longer, a deep, devoted sense of affection bristling beneath his skin.

And then you turn sharply on your heel, staring directly back at him, and he feels a sudden wave of embarrassment and something akin to shame.

Archons, he'd just made a fool of himself, hadn't he?

He quickly turns away, clearing his throat and hiding his embarrassment behind his hand. Though it does not seem to deter you, the soft tap of your shoes growing closer until you were peering up at him with wide eyes.

"..Hello." He offers awkwardly, a little too stiff and a little too formal, but you don't seem to mind in the slightest. He knows that your appearance, your vague similarities to the Divine One are mere coincidence, but it does not stop his heart from skipping a beat when you smile up at him. "I– apologize for being so uncouth and staring, it's just.."

His voice trails off into a breathy exhale, his hand twitching on his cane as if he wanted to reach out and touch you..but he restrains himself in time. He could not make a bigger fool of himself – he would never hear the end of it from lady Furina.

"You remind me of someone."

He decides, readjusting his hands on his cane as he bows his head for a moment is a show of genuineness, though it must look awkward with how stiff his body feels.

Yet he cannot help but want to get closer anyway, to hear the silky lilt of your voice grace his pointed ears. This is as close as he will ever get to the Divine..he is a weak man, he finds, as he offers a hand to you.

"I understand if this is a bit..forward, but would you mind joining me for tea?"

He is a master magician – his entire work is built on keen misdirection and sleight of hand, but even he stumbles for a minute thinking he'd seen an illusion in your warm smile and striking features. Almost an exact copy of the Divine One, yet not quite..

Still, it's enough to pique his interest – enough, too, to give him the confidence to slip into your conversation with ease, all smiles and the slip of a card between his fingers.

"Hello, stranger – I don't think I've seen you in Fontaine before," He laughs, his hand reaching around to rest gently on your opposite shoulder, his voice a ghost of a whisper in your ear. "Say, could I interest you in a bit of magic?"

He perks up at the way you seem to light up like fireworks at his offer, a spark almost like recognition in your eyes he brushes aside – he's quite well known, after all.

"Good! Now, if I may just borrow your attention for a minute.." He grins, stepping around you and turning sharply to face you, his hand outstretched with a deck of cards in his hands, face down. "Let's start simple, shall we? I shan't overwhelm my audience – pick a card."

He holds the cards out again, his features twisted in something like awe, though he hides it well.

His heart flutters at the briefest of glances of your hand against his as you pluck a card from his hand, and he quickly retracts it, reshuffling the deck with a broad grin and a wink.

"Do your best to remember it! If you could return it to the deck.." The card is placed back in it's place amongst the rest, and the magic begins!

"Now then, let's see..hm," He hums for a long moment, the silence filled by the constant shuffle of cards until he suddenly plucks one from the deck, flipping it around for you to see. "Is this your card?"

He frowns when you shake your head, almost pouting, before he lights up again and steps forward.

"Ah! How foolish of me, I missed it..it's riiight here, see." He winks, reaching behind your ear..and pulls free a card from seemingly thin air. He flips it around for you to see again, and when you tell him it is, in fact, your card, he flips it around again.

And before you can see it, he's holding a rainbow rose between his fingers, his hand outstretched as he bows.

His eyes glint with a sort of wonder as he looks at your features, his smile widening a fraction.

"Well, dear stranger? Did you enjoy the show?"

in honor of all those dozens of official star wars forums that imitated news outlets and used to populate the internet in early 00s they should do a version of one of star wars movies in "real time" in a form of news headlines kinda like they do with fiction newsletters like dracula daily or whale weekly. rots lasts about a week. i want to starts my sunday with an email titled "Sheev Palpatine, Previously the Chancellor of the Republic, is Granted the Title of Emperor Before the Galactic Senate"

I can't recall a one-shot of an actual play that felt like a short story ("The Most Dangerous Game" springs to mind) or as an episode of The Twilight Zone.

"The Clearing" is so evocative of place and character in its short run time while being ripe for analysis.

Goddamn y'all. Best $5/month in my budget.

Bruce is actually really attractive, and I have enough reasoning to make a list

He's:

Tall (. Tall enough to hit his head on the vault doorframe)

Long-legged

Has a straight nose bridge

Has high cheekbones (more noticeable in 2nd pic below)

Has a strong jawline

Sharp eyes, but they aren't small (plus eyebags if you're into that)

Overall, he has strong, attractive facial features

Has broad, refined shoulders. You can tell he works out (or he did, when he was alive)

Even has a thick, muscly neck

He has MUSCLE. Is SCULPTED. NOICE. VERY NOICE. (nice arms. Nice shoulders. Nice neck. Nice legs. Nice butt-)

(There are actually panels where you can see some of his muscles. Other than those already shown here, he's got bricky thighs-

-and in the panels where we first get his name dropped, he's got those shoulder blades too-)

The one time we see him smile, and he actually has a scary one

Has small, kinda sharp pupils, and his eyes remind me of a cat. We only ever saw him tense or defensive, so his resting/listening face is really cute

Other than the physical appearance stuff, he also:

Takes shit without batting an eye (patience, knowing it's just how Kudo is, etc)

Kudo being all "Cut the crap Bruce and give it to me straight", after Bruce tests his blood and is rightfully Concerned because they just faced AFO

Put up with Kudo's experimenting and testing over Yoichi's transferable Factor

Did ya'll see the look on Kudo's face when he realized he had Yoichi's Factor/will? Kudo was going to start in nonsense and Bruce just dealt with that.

Also something I noticed when looking back at the images here; Bruce has bandages on his arms in the void. But not when he faced AFO in the sewers.

Were he and Kudo cutting their arms open in their experimenting over Yoichi's theory? Is this why Kudo has two gauntlets instead of his one? Why we never see his bare arms in the void? That he always keeps his arms down so there's no slip?

Is smart enough to run blood tests, plus has enough common sense to pick Shinomori as his successor

He picked a guy who avoids society, has an Ability to detect danger so he can always stay away from AFO, is also a coward so he's never going to go throw himself into danger, even without knowing instinctively he stands no chance, etc.

Meanwhile, Kudo chose Bruce, who he played Hot Potato Yoichi with; but he did also trust Bruce, and put the only pure combative Ability in OFA through Bruce.

These two made their choices based on what they valued and saw the Factor needed.

Is logical, analytical, and calm.

He tried advising Midoriya on their Abilities in One For All, especially his own.

Midoriya then tried ignoring him about using Fa Jin for the first time, but found he was right, thinking: "Dammit!! I had [Lady Nagant] right where I wanted her, but... ugh! The Third was right. My parallel Quirk processes are all screwed up!" (ch. 314).

Plus, when Midoriya fixed his processing mistakes, Bruce was analyzing the way he reached his new conclusion. Pure facts, no bias, very calm, just saying it as it was.

We never see him panic. When he's caught by surprise in the sewers by AFO, Kudo, and Yoichi's little bubble event, he immediately reacts. He doesn't falter, he just knows he has to do something right now.

Was more willing to listen than Kudo to Yoichi's beckon, and probably was just following Kudo's rejection of Midoriya

While we don't see Kudo's face, we see Bruce's eyes when Yoichi calls on his heroes. Bruce was more open and receptive, or at least more impacted.

Bruce was also the one to start talking, while Kudo just kept quiet.

He actually communicates a lot

When Yoichi called them to support Midoriya, Bruce started talking to paint a picture of why they thought the way they did, so Yoichi understood where they were coming from.

(Though he seems to beat about the bush sometimes, since Kudo spoke up to be direct on how they couldn't just put their trust in some starry-eyed teenager. Plus, when Kudo tells him to just tell him what's wrong [double Factors])

When Midoriya first used Fa Jin against Nagant, Bruce came out just to tell him he knew what he was trying, but that Midoriya wasn't ready; and Midoriya found he was right. Midoriya just didn't want to listen to him then.

He asks Kudo for clarification after finding Kudo had two Factors in him after the sewer incident ("Just to be sure, All For One didn't touch you, right?") Kudo knew him well enough to go "stop beating around the bush and tell me", so Bruce was probably gonna start with questions, theories, and trying to understand everything in general, before saying "yeah you have two Factors. Don't know why".

Is strong-willed and loyal.

He followed Kudo, even to death, carrying on the cause he started until it ended with him.

Plus, when talking about how AFO needs a strong will to override OFA's own, we first see Bruce, Kudo, and Yoichi.

AFO couldn't steal OFA because the will was too strong for him, and that was back during Banjo's time. Since Shinomori never actually tried opposing AFO and just hid, we can assume the first Three (Yoichi, Kudo, Bruce) already had an accumulation of strong willpower that made OFA un-stealable. Those three are a strong enough foundation, and the main wills, that the other users just become bonuses.

Kudo, also saying that Midoriya needs allies with the same will and drive as him... hey Kudo, you're talking about yourself and your old allies, aren't you? That's why you look at Yoichi and Bruce when you say this.

Not only is Bruce attractive, but he's got good character. THE END.
