everyone must go an watch the way on bbc right now!!

it's one of the best things i've seen in ages.

it's written and directed by welsh people. it's set and filmed largely in wales. it has a plethora of wonderful welsh actors and actresses. it's totally made by welsh people FOR welsh people.

i loved the pure welshness of it: the relations to the story of king arthur (orginally a welsh story); the feeling of hiraeth the whole time. i'm going to be thinking a lot about this mini-series for a very long time.

confession time: even though i've been very chronically online for several years (though i have been getting out of it in the past two) i still have no idea what "proship" means. every time i see a "proshippers dni" i just think it's about people who ship. like, in general. to be fair i don't really care enough to look it up but like. just wanted to put it out there.

Claudio Capéo, especially Tant que rien ne m'arrête, je vous embrasse fort, and Un homme debout. - generally pretty upbeat, acoustic, I would call it francopop

Dis-moi par BB Brunes - love song, 2000s rock, it has that gritty feel which I love so much

La gloire à mes genoux par Le rouge et le noir - if you listen to anything, listen to this one!!! It's in my top 3 favourite songs of all time. 2010s "opera rock", whatever that means, it's amazing and the lyrics are so catchy (to me at least), the singer puts everything into the vocals, and the instruments behind it are nice too.

Pomme, especially Ceux qui rêvent, je sais pas danser, soleil soleil, Nelly, jardin - sad, slow, repetitive lyrics in a good way

Danser avec toi par LeFLOFRANCO - Manie Musicale winning song last year! Very smooth and dancey. From the same year, there was ON VA YEKE par Black M, which is similar in some ways - look up the story behind his song Je suis chez moi!!

Enfants du monde par Yaniss Ouda et Danakill - if you listen to anything besides for La gloire à mes genoux, listen to this as well!!! Another one of my favourites. It's very upbeat, happy, about sticking together and fostering community. The music video also has pro-PS imagery even from before the recent global awareness :)

Misc songs: Le mystère abyssal par MPL, Regrets par Pierre de Maere, Fantasie par Zélie, I should also probably mention Stromae in here, Mauvaise journée by him is good.

part 2 of Things Lately. I have been plugging away at my dragon age journey and just finished 2. and. well.

first I will say here was my Hawke:

(you give me a character creator I'm for sure gonna use it! but I tried to keep her inspired by "default" Hawke) I love her. I love (almost*) all of them. found family is my favoriiiiiite I would love if they could all be happy and get along ha ha ha.

*the almost is because of a stupid gamey reason for Aveline - very early on, there was some seemingly-innocuous decision I made and she was like :[ +5 rivalry. uhhhh excuse me wtf lady? and then the next thing I did she was like >:[ +10 rivalry. WELL. ok then, if you have that much of a problem with me - FINE. and then if I tried to make her mad, she was like :) +10 friendship. and it just pissed me off lmao. so I rarely had her in my party because I can be petty like that. oh. also. I had little patience for Sebastian.

then i will say. trying to be as brief. and... hinged. as possible. um...

I was trying to get everything situated in the Keep and I'm like… fuck I do not remember anyone with that name. who were they? what the hell quest was this? *furiously looking things up* wait I only played it two weeks ago??! i forgor…

also also- Origins and DA2: no controller! only keyboard. me: 😭😭😭 Inquisition: you can use a controller now! me: oh thank god- Inquisition: but all the button prompts will be in Xbox! 😁 me: -fucking damn it.

this would not actually be a huge problem because I do know which buttons go where EXCEPT that Xbox and PS controllers share one button. with the same symbol. and friend. it does not live in the same spot on both. so I see X on screen and my muscle memory takes over lolcry

thankfully X/square isn't like, something you're prompted to press in combat usually. so it's not too awful. but still very annoying.

SO about my wip -- i'm in one of those "turn years-long daydream material into actual fic" undertakings. it's intended to be a series of fallout 4 fics with some new vegas elements, one of those kinda "let's take another angle on the main quest" dealios. if you're unfamiliar with fallout fic fandom, this is like a genre in and of itself and it's easily my favorite 😂

the first fic, "used books and guns," is centered on a mercenary doing work out of goodneighbor -- but the POV is going to rotate between the characters around her, and we won't get her POV until late in the fic. the structure is centered around specific jobs she's taking, with a focus on the connections she builds with the POV characters along the way. the first job is a "clear raiders from X location" type, and she's accompanied by the dude who hired her: edward deegan

A single gunshot rings out from behind the main barricade. Edward's head snaps over -- No sign of the merc. Shit. He hurries across the street, rifle up. What he expects is another raider smart enough to stay hidden until now.

What he finds first is the barrel of a pistol pointed directly at his head.

A sharp spike of adrenaline highlights the world around him. Smells are suddenly electric -- The sting of gunpowder and hot metal; the weight of wood and pavement soaked with rain; and, almost overwhelming, sticky, coppery blood. All around him, shadows and light bounce and twitch, eerily alive, as the bulbs overhead sway at the mercy of the wind. And on the other end of that gun?

That's his own goddamn merc about to shoot him.

The light swings up under the brim of her hat, and for a second, he sees her eyes. Stark blue. Intense. Empty.

"Stand down," Edward barks. "It's me."

In those eyes, he watches her come into focus. Realization dawns, and horror follows on its heels. She recoils away from him and all at once, her posture crumples -- gun arm dropping, shoulders hunching, chin dipping. Her face disappears under shadow again.

"Shit. I... I'm s-sorry. I didn't..."

There's more than one way to fill in that blank. Didn't mean to. Didn't see him. "Yeah," he answers either way. He lowers his rifle, heart still hammering in his chest. He keeps his expression neutral. "You alright?"

Elle swallows hard and nods, not that he's sure he believes her. She gestures weakly to the side, and finally, he realizes there's a body there. This must be the raider who'd been near the first turret she took out. It doesn't make for a pretty sight. Shredded by shrapnel, sprawled on the blood-soaked pavement... and sporting a glistening bullet hole in the forehead.

"He was still..." She trails off, shifting uncomfortably. "Sorry," she repeats.

Still... alive, probably. Jesus. So that shot was a mercy kill. And normally, Edward would be willing to wave off the rest -- She was likely startled by his sudden arrival. It's understandable. He could've just as easily been a raider, so a part of him is glad she was still alert. But... He's not going to forget that look in her eyes so soon. Something about this clearly shook her. Badly. And he has a gut feeling that's what she's really trying to apologize about -- Her own emotions. Like she's apologizing for bleeding on him, and he doesn't know the why behind any of it.

But... They don't know each other. He's her employer, and she's his employee. That's all there is to this. It isn't really his place to pry, not unless it's an active problem. And even if it is, this is hardly the time or place to address it. He needs to leave it alone for now.

"Don't worry about it," he says, holding his voice carefully level.

Her mouth tugs down uncertainly, but she takes a deep breath and lets it go. "We... should be clear now." She holsters her pistol, freeing up her hand to grab her shotgun's strap so she can sling it across her body next to her backpack. She's pulling herself back together, changing the topic, ready to move on. 

Good. Time to get back to work.
