The wardrobe source post
Have had several Asks about where I get my clothes, so here we go.
My general style:
My build: I am 5'10", around 155-160lbs. I am a trans man, so that means some fit challenges. 36R tops, 32x32 bottoms, 8ish shoe.
My preferences: I adore 1930s/40s outdoor "country gentleman" and work wear -- I am building a wardrobe here. I love texture and mixing patterns. I try to stick to natural fibers. I am spending more money on pieces that last longer and shrinking my closet to a modern capsule and a vintage capsule. (Though I will sometimes mix eras.) Brown is my favorite color.
Online thrifting:
Unclaimed baggage. Really great for giving higher end brands a shot at huge discounts.
Gem App. Fantastic for searching multiple sites like ebay, poshmark, etc.
Modern clothing:
Taylor Stitch. Standouts are sweaters and wool trousers. Sizing runs trim - I size up to a 38 here instead of my usual 36. This means it's a great source for smaller trans mascs.
Yiume. Shirts a bit thin, but fun prints and frequent sales.
Imperfects. Small range, but fun, higher waisted fishtail trousers.
Taft Boots. Comfy right out of the box. Great at making small feet look elegant. Men's sizes start at a 6.
Schott. Fantastic pea coats. Recommended by Derek Menswear.
Vermont Flannel. Super thick plaid, flannel shirts. Very warm.
Sterkowski hats. Range includes flat caps and captains/fisherman.
Spier & MacKay. Great winter coats, run a bit trim. Their trousers look hideous and despite a bit of a vintage look, everything else in the catalog is too low waisted and skinny.
LLBean. Great for sweaters. I love my grey commando style one.
Banana Republic. I like a lot of their older stuff, so a brand to watch on Poshmark.
New Vintage:
Cathcart London. Sweaters and jeans are great. Hit or miss fit on the rest. Frequent sales, small runs.
Darcy Clothing. Great all across the board. They are a film supplier, so restocks are regular. Their suspenders are hard to find, fyi, so search under "braces".
Revival Vintage. Dipping into poly blends, but a great selection of fairisle sweater vests.
JoBear boots. Great prices and styles, requires breaking in.
Focusers. Vintage glasses. They will replace lenses. Love the Peabody gold wire frames.
Old Glasses Shop. Frames you won't find at Focusers. You can try on frames before committing to an Rx, but have to pay for the return. Love their round tortoise shells.

A big happy 4th of July to my American simmers! What better way to celebrate than by creating a look book showcasing some of the most notable and iconic first ladies?
CC links under the cut.
Martha Washington was the first first lady of the United States, although the title wasn’t coined until after her death. She took on the social role of the president's wife reluctantly, becoming a national celebrity in the process.
Mop Cap | Hair | Dress (Recolour) | Dress (Mesh - TSR) | Fichu (Scarf) | Watch (Vintage Glamour)
Louisa Adams was born in London and raised in France. In fact she was the only foreign-born first lady until Melania Trump. While serving she took to writing, producing plays, essays, poems, and an autobiography.
Hair | Earrings | Dress | Undershirt & Shoes | Socks (Get To Work)
Mary Todd Lincoln staunchly supported her husband throughout his presidency and was active in keeping national morale high during the Civil War. She was seated next to Abraham when he was infamously assassinated.
Hair | Earrings | Dress
Frances Cleveland is the only first lady to have served in the role during two non-consecutive terms. At just 21 years old when she first starting serving, she is the youngest presidential spouse in American history and the first to actually marry in the White House.
Hair | Dress (retired - direct download) | Gloves (My Wedding Stories)
Nellie Taft was a very progressive woman for her time and was closely involved in the political aspects of the presidency, regularly sitting in on meetings and serving as her husband's closest advisor.
Hair | Earrings | Choker | Dress | Shoes
Mamie Eisenhower was a popular first lady and recognized as a fashion icon, known for her iconic bangs and frequent use of the colour pink.
Hair | Earrings | Dress | Watch (Vintage Glamour) | Shoes (Base Game)
Jackie Kennedy (header) was regarded as an international fashion icon and her work as a cultural ambassador of the United States made her very popular globally. She established the White House Historical Association, which has had a lasting impact on the cultural landscape of the United States.
Hair (Nifty Knitting) | Earrings (Base Game) | Suit
Betty Ford was one of the most candid first ladies in history, commenting on the hot-button issues of the time such as feminism, equal pay, the Equal Rights Amendment, sex, drugs, and abortion. After undergoing her own recovery, she founded and served as the first chair of the board of directors of the Betty Ford Center for substance abuse and addiction.
Hair | Suit | Ring (My Wedding Stories) | Shoes (Base Game)
Michelle Obama worked as an advocate for poverty awareness, education, nutrition, physical activity, and healthy eating during her time as first lady. She also supported American designers and was considered a fashion icon.
Hair | Necklace | Dress | Shoes (Recolour) | Shoes (Mesh - TSR)

And for those who don’t want any part of my particular brand of mental illness, I have designed an outfit for regular canon Ben as well
Bold patterns are kind of unavoidable when bright blue & yellow is the color scheme, but we can still make it fashionable (I am trying very hard not to remember Ben’s Wicked World outfit & failing). Give it some edge with leather pants & we have a solid blend of Auradon prep with Isle Style
Shoes are based on the Taft boots I keep seeing ads for but they’re essentially semi-casual men’s dress shoes; I like the wooden finish look on the soles and they bring back some warm tones to balance with the rope design on the sweater
Also I painted his nails blue bc I felt like it & if we’re imagining this as Evie having a fashion show I think Ben would let Evie paint his nails

The worst Mormon who has ever lived? That's a great question, I'd love to tell you. There's such a wide list to choose from: Brigham Young, Ezra Taft Benson, Cleon Skousen, Orrin Hatch, and they're all good choices.
But none of them are the best choice. The best choice is J. Reuben Clark. He is the worst representation of what a Latter-day Saint should be. He had ample education to know better, but was still as narrow-minded, racist, anti-Semitic, sexist, and homophobic as a person could be. His influence on the Church in all of its worst attitudes and now-disavowed policies, practices, and prejudices are all traceable directly back to him.
I joke about wanting to have a Socker Bopper fight with Brigham Young in a Wendy's parking lot. That's too good for J. Reuben Clark. I want to watch him personally chisel his name off of the law school at BYU. I want to hear him disavow segregation, the curse of Cain, and white supremacy in the pre-existence from the pulpit in the Conference Center. I want to see him holding the door open for black and mixed race people he spent his life denigrating, trying to withhold the blessings of Jesus Christ from, and watch them go into heaven before he does.
I wake up every day celebrating the fact that J. Reuben Clark is furious that I'm a mixed-race member of the Church. In whatever circle he's in on the Plan of Salvation chart, I hope he's itchy, hot, his shoes are too tight, and he never gets to eat his favorite food again.
If you think this is unreasonable, it's because you've never seen or heard some of the words that have come out of his mouth. Count yourself blessed for that. And if you have, trust me when I tell you: it hits differently when the vile words he came up with are talking about you and the people you care about.

WALK? Heh, back in my day we were still under the tyrannical rule of the silverback gorillas of the Congo in nineteen aught six and they made us crawl on our belly. I was working at the shoe shine store to put myself through medical school. Back then folks would work up to 17 jobs just to get home and be whooped by their mama for not working hard enough. I was working on my doctoral thesis when the biggest bear you've ever seen came charging out of the woods at me. I was able to fight him off with nothing but my hands and the pencil I was writing with. Unfortunately before he ran off he snagged the pencil and yelled out "yoink". Think he was one of those German bears trained by the kaiser. That was the only pencil we had in the entire town and I never finished my thesis. And ya see the thing about a doctoral thesis is that one is required to get your doctorate degree, but back in my day you were elected the town's top doctor if you could estimate someone's heartbeat to within 400 beats per fortnight. Of course we didn't have surgical equipment or sanitizer in those days thanks to the great medicine embargo of 1942, in fact if you had to cut someone open you had to use lobster claws! Lobstotomys I think they were called. Now here's where shellfish tools get tricky because after dubya-dubya two the US saw an influx of Jewish immigrants that couldn't be operated on with shellfish so we had to invent a new way of curing diseases. So back then we just gave polio to anyone who was sick and then by comparison their first disease didn't seem so bad. Of course that was before Taft put a ban on practicing religion from February 8th of 1910 to February 10th of 1910, but back then we didn't call the month February, it was known as Jarch, because it came right in between January and the annual Marching parade that occurred on April 2nd. Anyways where was I, oh that's right so back then you didn't get a lollipop for going to the doctor's, no they used to carry around a big staff with a snake on it and if you were bad they'd bite ya with venom!
Then you could always have a medicinal hamburger. Of course back then they didn't serve fries, but diced turnip cause of the war. And we didn't call them hamburgers, they were called Rooooosevelt sandwiches! And we didn't have paper money in those days, so you'd have to work a 12 hr shift for your meal! I remember I was working the day they invented day light savings time, ended up working 13 hrs instead of 12. I spent 14 years outside protesting that 5 Guys after that. Of course back then protesting wasn't effective because people hadn't evolved to see or hear yet! And that's when goats were the only animal allowed to vote in elections, they took a majority of congress in dickety five and passed all sort of crazy laws. But we were a lot tougher back then, so we stormed the capital and beat up all of the Irish. And that's how I became the first man to eat at a Krusty Burger

VOR on the other Progressive Presidents -- Teddy Roosevelt, Taft, and Wilson?
Not a strong areas for me, so my low confidence quick appraisals: Teddy: Probably mid-low, C+? A lot of his progressive economic actions were either very much in the zeitgeist and similar actions would have been taken by others, who didn't have that much impact all said and done (like his monopoly 'breakups'). He is an ideas man though for sure, and I think on conservation in particular that wasn't something any old president would have done and has had as very long legacy, so he gets points for that. I also guess handing Wilson the presidency after splitting the vote in 1912 was not something anyone else could have done lol.
Taft: I think the consensus is right on him being low VOR. I want to credit what he was trying to do - seeing growing radicalism in Roosevelt, and growing corruption & reactionary politics in the right-wing of the Republican party, and chart a new course. He just failed at it in the end, and didn't do much that stands out to me as having lasting import or wasn't what many would have done in his shoes. Lets go with D.
Wilson: More confident on this one, quite high VOR. Foreign policy is always an area where US presidents have more VOR opportunities - they have more agency and are less constrained by domestic political factions. Wilson took that to the absolute hilt. Intervening in WWI is not that high VOR, to be clear - in the end the majority was for it after repeated German (foolish) violations of US policy around sea trade. But reshaping WWI into an ideological battle for nationalism and republicanism absolutely was his project and not at all the default state of things. And he did is very, very actively - you can assign a good amount of the credit/blame for the dissolution of Austria-Hungary on Wilson for the ways he pre-committed nationalist factions to independence or bust, for example. All his domestic policy is washed away by this imo. Though in the end still just an outside factor on all this, so I would go with B+.

Reader who wakes up in a body of the opposite gender
I’ll be making two parts one male -> female and female -> male
(This one will be female -> male)
Male part.
Warning:
Are you kidding me.
You had woken up only to release that your chest was reduced to a A cup, your beautiful(and hard worked on) ass was more hard and flatish, you have more sculpted abs, and now that you feel something between your legs
And that you see your female body next to you sleeping away.
Standing up you rushed to your bathroom only to see a male face instead of yours. And that your naked. Too.
Rushing to splash water on your face you just stare in awe as you see Taft beautiful new face that belongs to you now.
What do you do? How are you gonna tell your family? Is there any clothes that match your new body? Do you need a new name? Everything is just running through your thoughts. Thankfully it’s the weekend and you had some clothes that fit your body. And you just grab your wallet to go buy some new clothes
After a couple of hours of buying new clothes, shoes, and getting a haircut you arrive back home and still see your body sleeping. Curious it’s gets the best of you and your just slap your old body. Then blacked out
Awakening in your old female body you see your new one just laying on your bed, asleep. Weird.
Is this gonna be a new thing for you? What will you explain to your friends and family when they come over and either see you in your female body or male? Who knows. But for now you just need to plan and adjust until then.
School started the next day. Thankfully you were in your female body and attended your class. But what about your male body?
You needed to plan. So you wore a disguise to look like your mom and successfully registered your new body
A couple of days were on and off, your female body goes to school one day and your male one another
Of course the female classmates had fallen for your male body while your female one has catches a couple of eyes of the guys
There were times where you accidentally wore your male uniform. But you obvious achieved high for both bodies with high grades
It’s still a secret to both your friends and family but only two people know about them. Daniel park and Crystal Choi.

Please excuse the temporary velcro. The vintage set is a tiny bit too small, but no problem. I'm going to pick one of them apart to pattern, then will restore both (straps disintegrated) and sell to fund my repro set (dunno when).
Oh ho ho! Appears Siegfried owns both riding boots AND half chaps / gaiters, as seen here. Which I absolutely can make, myself!
(Also note the production in Episode 1 changes his base from shoes to ankle boots once he gets to the paddock, ha ha. Must have learned that muck was going to get in that shoe gap.)
Compare to early 1900s half chaps seen above. Siegfried's pair has an extra buckle, but otherwise appear to be this one-piece wrap design.
This style of half-chaps makes sense for the character, given his service in WW1. See these WW1 cavalry gaiters:
Here's his riding boots, for comparison. A very similar look, but 3 buckles and it's all one boot, instead of a covering.
Similar boots are still produced today, but at $1,700 USD, a bit rich for my blood, especially given I am not currently riding:
I'll be able to make the half-chaps for under $50, just need to check if I have the correct weight leather in my stash. For best results, I'll need to pattern these to my own legs, but I am stoked to turn out a pair!
#siegfried farnon cosplay wip#my cosplay#oh man these smell like old tack#takes me back to tending the horses as a kid#those boots are by Taft btw since folks usually ask about my shoes 😁

Great knowledge!!
On Jeopardy the other night, the final question was, How many steps does the guard take during their walk across the Tomb of the Unknowns? ------ All three missed it ---
This is really an awesome sight to watch if you've never had the chance Very fascinating.
Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
1. How many steps does the guard take during their walk across the tomb of the Unknowns and why?
21 steps. It alludes to the twenty-one gun salute, which is the highest honor given any military or foreign dignitary.
2. How long do they hesitate after their about face to begin their return walk and why?
21 seconds for the same reason as answer number 1
3. Why are their gloves wet?
Their gloves are moistened to prevent losing their grip on the rifle.
4. Do they carry their rifle on the same shoulder all the time and if not, why not?
They carry the rifle on the shoulder away from the tomb.
After their march across the path, they execute an about face and move the rifle to the outside shoulder.
5. How often are the guards changed?
Guards are changed every thirty minutes, twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year.
6. What are the physical traits of the guard limited to?
For a person to apply for guard duty at the tomb, they must be between 5' 10' and 6' 2' tall and their waist size cannot exceed 30.' Other requirements of the Guard:
They must commit 2 years of life to guard the tomb, live in a barracks under the tomb, and cannot drink any alcohol on or off duty.
They cannot swear in public and cannot disgrace the uniform or the tomb in any way. After two years, the guard is given a wreath pin that is worn on their lapel signifying they served as guard of the tomb. There are only a little over 600 presently worn.
The guard must obey these rules while serving as guards or for the rest of their lives if they choose.
The shoes are specially made with very thick soles to keep the heat and cold from their feet. There are metal heel plates that extend to the top of the shoe in order to make the loud click as they come to a halt.
There are no wrinkles, folds or lint on the uniform.
Guards dress for duty in front of a full-length mirror.
The first six months of duty a guard cannot talk to anyone, nor watch TV.
All off-duty time is spent studying the 175 notable people laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery. A guard must memorize who they are and where they are interred.
Among the notables are: President Taft, Joe E. Lewis (the boxer) and Medal of Honor winner Audie Murphy, (the most decorated soldier of WWII) of Hollywood fame.
Every guard spends five hours a day getting their uniforms ready for guard duty.
ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD, AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM.
In 2003 as Hurricane Isabelle was approaching Washington , DC , our US Senate/House took 2 days off with anticipation of the storm. On the ABC evening news, it was reported that because of the dangers from the hurricane, the military members assigned the duty of guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier were given permission to suspend the assignment.
They respectfully declined the offer, 'No way, Sir!' Soaked to the skin, marching in the pelting rain of a tropical storm, they said that guarding the Tomb was not just an assignment, it was the highest honor that can be afforded to a serviceperson.
The tomb has been patrolled continuously, 24/7, since 1930.
God Bless and Keep Them
I don't usually suggest that many posts be reshared, but I'd be very proud if this one reached as many people as possible.
We can be very proud of our young men and women in the service no matter where they serve.
Duty - Honor - Country
IN GOD WE TRUST
