hey hey hey you reblogged a post about some sort of cyberpunk ttrpg with themes from various religions. i remember the phrase "decapitate the godhead" in the post but i cant find it now. have you maybe got any clue of what im talking about ?
Oddly, there are multiple tabletop RPGs I've plugged on this blog recently that could potentially answer to that description. It's possible you're thinking of @xxxdragonfucker69xxx's Ten Thousand Days for the Sword, a playable preview of which can be found here. However, if decapitating gods is specifically what stood out to you more than anything else, it's more likely that you're vaguely remembering @makapatag's Ultraviolence at the End of Time. As far as I'm aware there's no website set up for the latter, at least not at the time of this posting, but you can find the author's pitch post here, and a brief game-mechanical teaser here. Do either of those ring any bells?

Did you know you can get started with any of our core line games for FREE?!
Thats right £0, in this economy ?!?
We aim to design Quickstarts with a few things in mind:
Simple overview of the rules including character creation or premade characters.
An adventure! Its no good having the rules for a game with no guidance on how to get a group to the table and actually PLAYING.
BIG VIBES - truthfully we want to sell you on the full thing, we do that by showing you what the game has to offer in STYLE.
Ready to try one out?
Paint The Town Red: a sad gay vampire rpg of found family, boozy nights out and stinking hangovers.
Inevitable: A doomed arthurian western of cowboy knights trying (and failing) to save the world.
Orbital Blues: a lo-fi space western ttrpg of depressed outlaws trying to make ends meet in a hypercaptalist dustbowl americana far-future.
Best Left Buried: a gritty horror dungeoncrawl where characters suffer the consequences of their actions.
Gangs of Titan City: play as as desperate gutterscum and either dominate the underworld as crimelords or end up riddled with bullets.

Games that only work here? Games that only work there!
I'm thinking about games that only work in certain mediums, specifically in the context of tabletop. So, I just learned about The Houses of the Sun by Night. One of the minigames within involves stacking dice.
I play almost wholly online. I don't think half of the people I play with have their own dice. Certainly not enough to build stacks with an equal versatility. We can't play the Damnation minigame!
I think, perhaps, games can (and should) be made with the opposite 'problem'. A game which in some essential way is still a TTRPG - being largely manual and, I think most importantly, run by people (this definition is off the top of my head - litigating it would be its own post) but which cannot be effectively played in person, or which can only be played on a computer. Video 'TT'RPGs.
Large tables and even more advanced generation which couldn't be done at a table.
Minigames which actually have the netrunner play a minigame, like a Bethesda lockpicking or hacking mingame.
Precise timers.
Hidden but definite enemy placement (a pain at the table, especially with more than one of them).
Exact calculations like true radii, height adjusted ranges, and even arc calculations that, while possible at a table, would be a huge pain - but in a virtual tabletop, they're easy!
Hidden information, shared without having to go outside or send someone to the next room
Inventory grids are cool in theory but kinda painful in paper. On a computer? far easier
Calculations that are easy enough to think about, but just plain slow/annoying to do repeatedly. I'm thinking of the Orbment system from the early Trails/Kiseki games (I have a physical setup that works, but it imposes a monotonicity requirement that can be a problem)
You can get away with a lot more math in general when it's automated, really. Frees up a lot of mental space, eases access for players who suck at math and rules memorizing, and even for those who are good it's still nice.
I think I'll mostly design my games to be played either online or at a table - but the idea of a minigame that is requisitely digital intrigues me. I have a website - I could host it. Your DM gives you an link with the difficulty ciphered into a parameter, you input your skill level or what have you, and you play it. If it's digital, you can stream it - if it's at a table, they're all gonna be staring at your phone over your neck (if there's not something else happening - they can keep playing while you work, of course).
#indie ttrpg#ttrpg#indie tabletop rpg#tabletop rpg#tabletop games#roleplaying games#thanks AA Voigt for talking about Houses of the Sun by Night. Looks crazy. gonna get it when I have money (or a bad day that needs a treat)#ill put this in the indie ttrpg community in the morning if I think it's a decently okay post then

LOL, I can’t even with this Jeff Easley cover. The hair, damn. The cheesecake. I don’t get it at all. At least the chainmail bikini covers usually involve swords and monsters or something that speaks to the experience of the game.
This is I9: Day of Al’Akbar (1986). You can tell from the title and cover alone that the adventure is going to indulge in Hollywood-style orientalism, an occurrence that is neither the first nor the last time for D&D. I’d take Al-Qadim over this, as at least there is some deep thought that went into the presentation there. Here, the Middle Eastern trapping are really just flavor layered on a fairly generic adventure that happens to feature old artifacts with an Arabic sounding name (the Cup and Talisman of Al’Akbar, which, that has got to just be a corruption of “Allahu Akbar,” right?). The actual adventure is probably fine, but the Middle Eastern veneer winds up being so tedious as to be entirely distracting. Big pass on this one from me.

Okay here’s another question for you lovely people who play tabletop rpg games. Where can I get miniatures and terrain for my DnD campaign without it costing an arm and a leg to ship outside of the US? Because I’ll find something on amazon or whatever and the prices are ehhh but yeah I’m willing to pay that much it’s fine every once in a while but then when I wanna check out it’s suddenly double that price? Excuse me? Is this all a sign to DIY my own sets? Where do I even begin. Is this a ploy to trick me into buying a 3D printer? Me? A simple minded maiden from the middle ages who thinks technology is some form of witchcraft and sorcery with a 3D printer? I still don’t know how to switch the keyboards language on my work computer without going into the settings. WHAT DO YOU MEAN?

Hello, official (and about a day late) announcement post of my submission to the One-Page RPG Jam 2024 being run by Unknown Dungeon on itchio.
GET ME OUT OF THIS SITCOM is a game about becoming aware of your role as side characters in a sitcom and wanting to escape, all while The Script (aka the GM) tries to get you back to blissful unawareness to follow the Plot.
Basically, rip-off and/or parody your favorite sitcom episodes and try to escape the magnetic and chaotic pull of the Main Cast. And it's free! Feedback is very welcome, as this hasn't been playtested yet.
#ttrpgs#indie ttrpg#one page rpg#rpgs#tabletop rpgs#this one was a fun one. i created it in a day and just did some minor edits as i realized i made a small mistake#ah the joys of post-publishing realizations

Day 16 - Quick to Learn
Knave RPG is elegant on all fronts - taking the OSR style games and boiling them down to their essential qualities while losing none of their charm. I'm truly amazed what Ben Milton has accomplished here. It's easy to read and pick up, and the 1e is avaliable for just $2.99 meaning money is really no barrier to trying it out. The art work is once again stunning as well.

RPG a Day 2024: Day Ten
RPG you'd like to see on TV: This one has already happened, and it did not go well.
youtube
In 2001, Heavy Gear (an RPG, wargame & card game) was adapted into an animated series by Sony Animation Studio. Heavy Gear: The Animated Series would be Sony’s second all-CG TV series, and only the third such series up to that point (the first having been Mainframe Studios' Reboot).
The original premise for the series was to have three phases: The story would begin in the Heavy Gear sport duelling circuit that would also introduce the cold-war themed setting of Terra Nova and its two superpowers, the Confederated Northern City-States and the Allied Southern Territories; then the story would move on to the outbreak of war between the two superpowers; then finally, Earth would invade, forcing north and south to ally against a mutual enemy.
I don’t know how well that plan would have turned out, but it wasn’t to be. Early in the series’ production, the show’s backers (Bohbot Kids Network) ran into financial difficulties and slashed the budget. The production team was greatly reduced and the budget for production of new digital assets was cut. The planned war storylines of the second and third phases were dropped and the action was kept on the duelling circuit (because they already had the digital assets for that). And so Heavy Gear: The Animated Series would just spin its wheels for the rest of its run, becoming, in the words of one of the show’s creators: “…just another show with not much to say”.
The series, unsurprisingly, was not a hit. And with its demise, the planned Heavy Gear action figure line died as well. Ending my hopes of running eye-catching games of Heavy Gear at conventions with action figures.
