Reader pov:

One year. One whole year me and Amelia have been dating for. It’s crazy how fast time feels when you’re in love, I do t know what I’d do without her. The only issue is my best friends, Cristina and Metrdith. Not that I’m afraid of their answer, well. I’m not staid if Cristina’s answer.

Meredith’s husband happens to be my girlfriend brother. It’s a minor detail, and you know, Meredith isn’t the biggest fan of said sister. Me and ames have talked it over and we’re going to tell people soon, but leave Mer till last, what could go wrong right?

Cristina went wrong.

“Hey! Cristina!” I whisper yelled across the nurses station.

“If you have another twisted-sisters-almost-died-or-had-a-traumatic-event drama to tell me save it for after my surgery. Please.” She sighed out.

“No it’s not that I have to tell you something. But you can not, and I mean can not, tell mer.“ I insist

“Dann what did you do screw her sister or something?”

I stay silent at this and her eyes go wide. “Oh. My. God. No you did not.”

I nod my head profusely and respond “We’ve been dating for a year Cristina. Me and Amelia, what am I supposed to tell her?!” I start to panic just thinking about all the different ways this could go wrong.

“Ohh I have no idea! Good luck, you’re gunna need it, oh and tell me when you’re telling her so I can watch.” I rolled my eyes as she walked away from me towards the OR to scrub in.

I walk to my patients room pondering ways to tell mer about me and Amelia, it was going to be a long day.

Amelia pov:

“Derek! Come here!” I call out to him across the neuro floor.

“What do you need I’ve got a surgery with Yang in like, 2 minutes?” He says looking bored before I even start talking.

“Hey you could at least act interest in what I’m about to say, oh and don’t tell mer yet. Please.” His interest was piqued at this so he gave me a look as if to say ‘keep going you’ve got me hooked’ so I continued “Me and y/n have been dating for a year, and we are o my just telling people ad were scared how mer will react because she’s not exactly my biggest fan as of right now and her and y/n/n, and Cristina obviously, are like twisted sisters or whatever.” I took a breather after sayibg all that and my brother just looked like he wanted to laugh in my face.

“Well, good luck!” He smiled and walked off to the OR.

Well shit.

Reader pov:

I walk into my patients room still deep in thought when he speaks up, he’s fairly old, around 70-ish and was in for a broken hip. “You seemed pretty serious with whatever you were talking about back there and now I don’t even get a hello? Something’s gotta be on your mind Doctor.” He gave me a knowing smirk as I open my mouth yet no words come out and let out and exasperated sigh.

“Ah you know, trouble in paradise, well, paradise’s surroundings at least.” I say trying to be as brief as possible.

“Happens to the best of us kid.” He seemed like a genuinely nice guy and to be honest I needed a break so instead of getting a nurse to check his vitals I decided I was going to do them, although it seemed someone else had the same idea.

“Hey y/n/n what are you doing here?” I hear a voice I know all too well say from behind me.

“Hi Ames, just doing Mr Davison’s vitals, are you okay?” I say giving her a smile.

“Funny I was just coming to do the same thing.” she walked beside me and trailed her hand lightly over my lower back which didn’t go unnoticed by Mr Davison.

“Your ‘paradise’ is a she? Ugh just another dyke, exactly what we need!” I stare at him shocked, as does Amelia. His sudden outburst seemed to pull some attention from outside and the one person that I didn’t want to walked in, walked in.

“Is everything okay in here?” Meredith asked.

“No get these people away from me! Horrible people you lgqbt whatever people!” He flailed his arms about like a toddler as he was ranting and raving. Immediately Meredith jumped to our defence.

“Excuse you? Who do you think you’re talking to? I have you know you’ve just made and enemy out of the best neuro, general and ortho (sorry callie) in the state. It’s 2024 in the USA for gods sake, get a grip man!” With this she ushered us out of the room and then into an in call room so she could talk to us.

“YOURE WHAT?!” mer practically yelled

“Keep your voice down, yes we’re dating.” Amelia said to mer try help her keep her head on.

“Look Amelia, I love y/n with my whole heart she’s my sister okay? So, if you hurt her, break her heart or do anything to even slightly harm her, I will hurt you twice as much. She’s the best thing that’ll ever happened to you, so don’t screw it up okay?” My heart warmed after hearing just how much mer cared about me and that she would protect me but also slightly concerned she just threatened my girlfriend.

“Yes ma’am.” Amelia murmured clearly slightly intimidated by mer.

“Okay, now that that’s out the way, I’m so happy for you guys!” Me and Ames say thanks and mer’s oager goes off so she has to run so me and amy are left alone in the in-call room.

“I love you Amelia.” I say as I peck her lips and wrap my arms around her neck.

“I love you too y/n/n.” At this she pulled me into a passionate kiss and lowered us both down onto a bed.

“Remind me, why am I awake at 6 AM on a Saturday when it’s my day off and the kids are with Amelia and Maggie?” Meredith rubbed her eyes with the sleeves of her old, ratty Dartmouth t-shirt. She’d pulled her hair up into a ponytail, sleep still evident in her eyes.

She had fully been planning to sleep in until eleven. That was until she heard incessant knocking on her front door. Panicking that something had happened to the kids, Meredith had thrown the sheet off her and ran down the stairs. Her anxiety eased when she saw Cormac on the other side of the door. Bright-eyed and dressed in a green top that she had never seen before.

“I did tell you yesterday evening…”

“I was half asleep yesterday evening,” Meredith whined as she made her way into the living room, falling back on the sofa with her eyes closed.

When Cormac didn’t answer, Meredith propped herself up on her elbows, turning around to see him in the kitchen. “What’s in the bag?” She eyed it suspiciously as Cormac pulled out two plates from the cupboard.

“Waffles and coffee because I know you’re useless without caffeine in the mornings.”

Meredith perked up a bit at the mention of caffeine and shot Cormac a grin before sitting up properly. Balancing the plates and two takeaway cups of coffee in his hands, Cormac walked back into the living, passing Meredith her breakfast.

“As much as I appreciate the sugar and caffeine, I would love it more if it was in three hours.”

“You really weren’t paying attention yesterday?” He arched a brow.

“Sorry,” Meredith gave him an apologetic smile. “I was just exhausted after surgery, I can’t even remember getting into my bed.”

Cormac shook his head, smiling. “You don’t need to apologise, I could tell you were exhausted yesterday.”

“Thanks… so are you going to tell me why you’re here then?”

“I will if you wouldn’t mind passing me the remote?”

Curious as to what in the world was going on, Meredith handed over the remote and watched as Cormac flicked through the channel before finally settling on one.”

“The Six Nations?” Meredith squinted at the screen, “What is that?”

With a huge grin on his face, Cormac turned to face her. “One of the best championships for the best sport in the world.”

“Which would be?”

“Rugby,” he responded matter-of-factly.

“Is this one of your Irish things?”

Cormac rolled his eyes before settling back on the sofa. “It’s a world thing, America just doesn’t do that good in it for the country to care.” He watched the screen with a grin on his face as the Irish national anthem finished and the men in green and red dispersed across the field.

“Okay, so what team are we supporting?”

After giving her a pointed look, Cormac looked at his top.

“Ah, yeah, okay. The guys in green then…”

“If you support the Welsh, we’re going to have an issue.”

“No no! Go Ireland!” Meredith gave a half-hearted fist pump.

She’d never been particularly interested in sport. Derek loved his golfing and fishing but thankfully, she hadn’t had to be a part of any of that. And now, Cormac was sitting in her house watching a sport she had no clue about. Maybe he wouldn’t notice if she fell asleep. Placing her empty plate on the table, Meredith cradled the cup of coffee in both her hands as the whistle blew. Watching for a couple of minutes, her brow furrowed as she tried to figure out what was going on.

“So, this is kind of like American football?”

Cormac looked at her incredulously. Meredith had never seen him look so offended. “This is something like American football!”

“The ball is the same shape and they’re throwing it around.”

With one eye still on the match, Cormac sighed and began to explain the many differences and intricacies of rugby. Much to Meredith’s own surprise, she found herself actually interested in what Cormac was saying. As she carried on watching the first half of the game, Meredith found herself enjoying it more now that she knew what was going on. When the whistle blew and the 30 men started to make their way off the field, Meredith was slightly disappointed.

“Is that it?”

Chuckling, Cormac turned to face her, giving her his full attention. “That was just the first half. They’ll have a 15-minute break and then they’ll be back out.”

Meredith then began to flood with him with even more questions, knowing that neither of them were going to be missing anything. There was a sparkle in her eye as she got more excited about the sport and Cormac didn’t even manage to bite back a grin. He hadn’t been expecting Meredith to be this invested in the game, but she had a genuine interest in what was going on and it made his day. Being able to watch rugby felt like a small part of home.

“Did you ever play, when you were younger?”

“Oh yeah, was on the school team and the county team for a bit. Played while I was at university as well.” Meredith saw his eyes glaze over slightly as he thought about those days again. “Rugby… it breeds a family. A band of brothers or whatever other clichés that you want to use. It taught me a lot.”

“You sound like you miss it.”

Cormac shrugged, “It’s been years since I last played. When I moved to the US, there weren’t any clubs near where I was and even if there was, I wouldn’t have had the time with residency and then the kids came along.” He shook his head, pulling away from the feelings of nostalgia. “I tell you what I miss most though. Actually going to a rugby match.”

“What’s it like?”

“It’s just the most amazing feeling. The atmosphere in the Aviva Stadium at full capacity… it’s just something else entirely. Completely electric. You don’t need to know the guy sitting next to you and by the end of the match, you’re talking like you’ve known each other for years. Doesn’t matter who’s supporting who. You’re there for the love of the game.” Grinning, he clasped his hand with Meredith’s. “I’m going to have to take you one day.”

“I like the sound of that,” And she meant it, 40 minutes of rugby and she could understand why some people were so obsessed with sport. “Now, shush, they’re about to start up again!”

any thoughts on the rest of the episode and THAT ending

i was going to write a post but i’ll just answer here lol

episode 1 thoughts:

did not know maggie had a bf or Jackson had a gf or that teddy and koracick’s sexcapades were broadcasted to an entire OR. i would have rewatched s16 to remind myself of these things before tonight, but i did not want to

also highkey forgot jackson had a kid until his gf showed up 

Jackson and jo are ew. fuck krista vernoff.

honestly so mad that amelink didn’t even have *1* scene. they were the only reason i was watching in the first place

episode 2 thoughts:

i don’t care about teddy or owen or that mess. i don’t. the only things i will say are that (1) i will never forgive the writers for messing up teddy’s character so much that i now hate her; (2) they deserve each other; (3) i’m really upset that koracick can’t seem to redeem himself. 

look i think they’re going to try and replicate the jolex best friends to lovers thing with jo/jackson, and if that happens, i will throw a tantrum. not just because nothing can match up to jolex, but also because i love jackson and jo’s friendship and i need it to stay exactly that way – a friendship

also don’t like merluca. i appreciate the mental health storyline they’ve got with Andrew but i don’t really want to see more of him and Meredith together. part of me ships Meredith x cormac hayes, but also cormac seems too good for her. 

nico still has the personality of a tennis ball. glasses is still annoying. schmico is still a poor replacement for what calzona had. 

irdc about whatever nonsense webber and catherine had/have going on. also webber bringing that mom into the hospital was plain irresponsible. 

i have no idea what maggie’s boyfriend’s name is, nor when/where/why/how that relationship started, but i like them together!

SO MUCH DOMESTIC AMELIA AND LINK I’M IN HEAVEN!!! i adore them and honestly was annoyed that the episode wasn’t focused entirely around them + baby + grey’s kids, especially since some genius decided not to feature them at all in ep 1…also, just for the record, they’re single-handedly carrying the show at this point 😌

on a side note, before i saw an actual child (as opposed to an infant) run out and demand food, there was a split-second where i thought amelia and link named their kid “bailey” and forgot they have a nephew by the same name. goes to show the level of faith i have in the writers at this point

i have SO many questions about that ending…think she got covid and that’s how she’s seeing derek, but can’t be certain…also ppl on twitter are talking about revivals of other dead/gone people (w imdb screenshots as proof) and i think it might actually happen on this batsh*t-crazy show

Summary: Addison Montgomery watches her marriage start to crumble around her, feeling helpless to save it when her husband, Derek Shepherd, is barely around enough to have a conversation about the situation. She turns to her long time friend - and her husband’s best friend - Mark Sloan for comfort but finds more than she ever bargained for. She knows if she continues down this path with Mark, she can never come back from it.

A/N: So welcome to my new fic! This story will be following Addison and Mark’s affair back in New York because as much as it’s talked about in the show we never quite find out how it went down. This fic is going to get very angsty and very smutty but I hope I’ve done Addison and Mark’s relationship justice. Also, each chapter will contain lyrics at the beginning and end that fit with the tone of the story and I have made a playlist that contains all these songs plus more so if you want a link to it let me know! Mark took the front steps up to the house two at a time and quickly rang the doorbell pulling the collar of his jacket up against the cold. It was late in the day and the sky had been dark with the threat of rain all day but it was now starting to pour down around him. When Addison had called him just before he had left the hospital and asked him to come over to the house he had come straight over. Derek and Addison were supposed to be having dinner that night but when Mark was leaving he noticed Derek’s name on the O.R board and Addison had sounded upset on the phone. It was the anniversary of the first time they had properly met in that library back in med school. Mark still remembered the date from being around them every year when they celebrated and the fact that he had practically shoved Derek out of his chair in the library that day just to get him to go and talk to Addison. He always bragged about being the only reason Derek had the guts to talk to her in the end and had started his best man speech with "You can all thank me for you being here today.“

"Mark!” Addison flung the front door open and stepped out of the way to let Mark in out of the rain. She smiled as she reached up to hug him, careful not to spill the glass of wine in her hand but he didn’t miss the slight sway in her movements. She was wearing one of her glamorous black dresses - it was almost floor-length and the silky material hugged tight to her body -  and her makeup was done perfectly but he could see her heels discarded on the floor behind her. She had clearly already been dressed when Derek called to cancel.

“Hey, Addie.” Mark smiled back wrapping his arms around her. When he leaned in he could smell her sweet rose-scented perfume mixed with the strong smell of her red wine.

Mark kept one hand on her arm to balance her when she pulled away and watched the contents of her glass slosh close to the rim, narrowly avoiding spilling onto the hardwood floors. It clearly wasn’t her first glass and the whole thing stuck out as a red flag to Mark. He had seen her drink a lot before, even seen her partying back in med school but Addison never filled her wine glasses close to the top. Mark had always guessed it was because of Bizzy. 

They had all been out to dinner together as a group once and Bizzy had berated Addison in front of everyone for filling her glass too much, claiming it was “unladylike to drink excessively in public.” After that Addison had always been careful after that, like she was afraid to be criticized again. Bizzy was a hypocrite. Mark had always thought that. She had shamed Addison for drinking “excessively” and yet he had never seen her without a glass in her hand. The Forbes-Montgomery’s might have been a family of borderline alcoholics but they did it with etiquette. After all, they had a reputation to uphold and they couldn’t have anyone threatening that. 

“I brought food from the takeaway down the road,” Mark said lifting up the paper bag of food he was holding in his hand.

“Oh, Mark you’re a lifesaver.” Addison sighed and leaned in quickly to kiss his cheek. The food from the Chinese restaurant near the house had always been their favourite to get when they spent time together. Derek had always hated it, claiming that it was greasy and unhealthy, so Addison could only ever get it with Mark. It became a habit to them whenever they were alone.  “Why don’t you head into the sitting room, I’ll grab plates and cutlery from the kitchen. Would you like a drink? You can open Derek’s whiskey if you like.”

“I’m pretty sure Derek would kill me if I touched his unopened bottle of whiskey.” Mark laughed making his way into the room. He took off his leather jacket and hung it over the back of the couch before sitting down.

“Well, it’s not as if he’s home enough to notice if it had been opened.” There was a slight laugh in her voice and Addison’s tone was lighthearted but Mark could sense the weight behind the words.

Things hadn’t been easy between Addison and Derek recently and Mark wasn’t blind to it. He could see the toll it was taking on both of his friends. Derek had been distant even from Mark and had completely thrown himself into work, doing surgery after surgery. Most nights he now slept in an on-call room in the hospital and he was rarely home anymore. Addison, on the other hand, seemed sad all of the time. Even in the hospital she just seemed lost. Like she drowning in everything that was going on and couldn’t find her way out. Mark didn’t want to push her to talk if she wasn’t ready but he was starting to worry about her.

“Well, I’ll just have some of whatever you’re drinking,” Mark called out to Addison who had now made her way into the kitchen.

When she walked back into the living room she had the plates and cutlery in her hand as well as a new wine glass for Mark. Mark recognised the bottle of the expensive red wine tucked under Addison’s arm, it was a Cabernet Sauvignon, one of her favourites and he had bought her a bottle for her birthday earlier that year. Addison set it all down on the table and sat down on the couch. As she settled back into the corner of the couch she tucked her dress up underneath herself.

“You look stunning by the way,” Mark said leaning forward to grab a plate off the table.

“Thank you. Maybe you can tell my husband that the next time you see him because this was meant to be for him.” Addison sighed stabbing her fork at the food she had just poured out onto her plate.

“Addison, are you okay?” Mark asked turning around so he was fully facing her.

“Am I okay? Yeah, I’m okay. That’s what I keep telling everyone. But am I actually alright? Am I happy? Now that’s a different question.”

“I’m so sorry Addie, I can’t even begin to imagine how hard this must be on you,” Mark said and she could hear the sincerity in his voice.

“Well, I suppose when I married someone who I knew was going to become a world-class surgeon I should’ve known he wouldn’t be wouldn’t be home a lot.” Addison tried to smile as she spoke, tried to push down whatever feelings had started to surface when she began talking. Her voice cracked and Mark could see straight through it. 

“Addison, all three of us are world-class surgeons, but the difference is we are sitting here while Derek is at the hospital. He’s my best friend but he doesn’t deserve you making excuses for him. You deserve better than this.”

Addison nodded, not trusting herself to speak around the lump in her throat. She knew she was drunk and she knew if let herself feel it she would cry, and she didn’t want to cry. Not over this and not now. She tried to clear her throat and took another sip of her wine.

As if he could sense the whirlpool of thoughts spinning through her mind Mark reached over and took her plate out her hand placing it down on the table before taking her hand in his. That was all it took. Addison lifted her free hand to her face and roughly brushed the tears away with the back of her hand, smearing mascara across her cheeks.

“Oh Red.” Mark sighed, his voice softening on the nickname. It had started out as a name to tease her with back in med school but over the years it had stuck as an affectionate nickname. He pulled Addison closer to him, wrapping his arm around her and letting her rest her head on his chest.

“I’m sorry, I’m such a mess.” Addison sniffled trying to recompose her herself but as she drew in a deep breath it caught in her throat and she let out a sob that made her shake against Mark.  She turned her head and buried her face in his shoulder as she cried.

“Shush, Addie, shush,” Mark said gently, smoothing his hand over her hair. “You’re not a mess. You’re beautiful. And yes you’re going through a hard time right now but you’re allowed to fall apart. Okay? I’m right here and I’m not going anywhere.”

After a while, the rhythmic stroking of her hair and Mark’s soothing words had started to calm her breathing and Addison looked up at Mark with puffy red eyes. Tears still welled up in the corner of her eyes but they had slowed. She didn’t know if it was alcohol thrumming through her veins or the mixed emotions of the whole situation but something inside her was telling her to lean up and press her lips against his. She definitely blamed the alcohol when she gave in to the feeling. She twisted her hands into the front of his shirt and tried to steady herself as she slowly leaned in.

Once Mark realised what was about to happen he grasped her hands that had been planted on his chest in his own and gently pushed her away. When her eyes met his there was a look of confusion and sadness behind heavily smudged mascara and eyeliner. 

“I thought-”

“Addison, you’re married to my best friend. Plus you’re drunk and I don’t want you waking up tomorrow morning and regretting this. I couldn’t do that to either of you.” Mark explained slowly not wanting to hurt Addison more than she already had been

“Oh right, married. Barely.” Addison scoffed. With how intensely she was staring at the wedding rings on her finger on Mark wondered for a second if she was about to rip them off. “I doubt if I had been any other woman you would have even thought to look for a damn ring.”

Mark was taken aback by the sudden bitterness in her voice and it seemed so was she. Addison let out a shocked gasp and stood up off the couch. He could clearly see the guilt of her own words written across her face.

“I’m so - I’m so sorry.” She brought her hand up to cover her mouth and suddenly the tears were flooding down her cheeks again. “I’m drunk I- just ignore me.”

“Addison.” Mark reached out to catch Addison’s hand again but she just shook her head and took another step backwards. She narrowly avoided tripping over the coffee table before managing to catch her balance again. He hated seeing her like this, he didn’t blame her for what she said. Not at all. She was drunk and upset and had no control over what she was saying.

“You should go Mark.” She couldn’t even bring herself to look him in the eye as she spoke. Her voice shook and Mark could see the effort it was taking her to fight back another sob that was threatening to spill out. 

“I don’t want to leave you here alone like this.” Mark insisted. He couldn’t leave knowing she was like this, the guilt of it wouldn’t let him sleep if he did. She was in no state to be alone.

“Just go.” Addison’s voice was pleading when she spoke again. She was staring at her mostly untouched food on the table through tears that blurred her vision. “If I plan to do anything else stupid, I’ll call Naomi." 

With that Addison turned around and disappeared upstairs leaving a stunned Mark sitting on the couch.

Addison reached across the bed and blindly searched around until her hand landed on the alarm clock, the constant beeping that was ringing in her ears finally stopped. She definitely regretted that second bottle of wine now, hell she regretted the first glass after what happened the night before.

She had been devastated when Derek called to cancel yet another dinner in favour of surgery. She was hoping that for once they could have a night out like they used to, that they could talk like an actual married couple but instead she got what she had grown used to over the past few months. After that, she couldn’t bring her to go to dinner by herself and had called Mark.

What she had tried to do had been impulsive and Mark was right, had she actually done it she would have woken up completely ashamed. As it was she felt awful. Not even for what she had tried to do but for snapping at Mark when he was just trying to be responsible and for pushing him away when he just wanted to help. She told herself at the time that she didn’t know what was driving her to do it but now, lying in bed the next morning painfully sober, she knew. 

Mark was doing exactly what she needed. Exactly what Derek hadn’t in months. He had held her, he was there to comfort her when she needed it the most and had soothed her. He had said everything she needed to hear, told her she was beautiful and that it was okay to feel everything had been building up around her and suffocating her for weeks now. It was simple, she had mistaken finally being shown the attention she needed for attraction in her drunken state. After all, it was Mark, he had never been anything more than a good friend.

She knew now that she needed to apologise to Mark. He didn’t deserve her outburst at him. Glancing at the clock she realised she was already running late for work and she let out a heavy sigh. She showered as quickly as she could, part of her hoping it would wash away her painful hangover, and threw on the first dress she pulled out of her wardrobe. 

She dreaded the mess that would be waiting for her as she walked down the stairs. She had never come back downstairs after leaving Mark sitting there along and the plates and take out containers would still be sitting on the table. Bypassing the living room she headed straight for the kitchen to make her morning cup of coffee for the ride to work. She wouldn’t be able to function without it today.

As she stood by the counter waiting for the coffee to brew she noticed clean dishes by the sink that she didn’t remember washing up and she nearly always put the dishes into the cupboard straight away. She brushed it off, blaming her bad memory on all the stress she had been under recently and poured the coffee into her travel flask.

She walked across the hall to the living room to retrieve her handbag before leaving for work but she stopped in her tracks when she pushed the door open. The table was perfectly clean with no sign of the food from the previous night and Addison’s bag was sitting right in the middle of the table despite her having left it in the corner of the room. 

When she made her way further into the room she saw it. Mark was asleep on the couch with his jacket folded under his head as a pillow. He had stayed to make sure she was okay after all. Addison could feel her heart swell in her chest and a smile broke out across her face. She walked over and gently ran her fingers through Marks messy hair making him stir slightly in his sleep. She wanted to wake him, to apologise for everything that had happened and to thank him for staying but he looked so peaceful and she was already late. Looking down at the cup in her hand she had an idea.

Mark slowly opened his eyes against the harsh sunlight streaming in through the windows and pushed himself upright. His neck was tense from the awkward angle he had slept at and his back cracked when he stretched out his arms. He looked down at the table and smiled at what he saw. Sitting on the table was one of Addison’s travel flasks with a sticky note that read "I’m sorry about last night. Thank you for staying. - Addie." 

Mark picked up the flask and took a sip of the contents. Coffee, just the way Mark liked it.

The sun beat down on you on this hot summer day, the wind wasn’t providing the sufficient amount of breeze to cool off your hot skin, and families played at the park across the street with their pets. Today was a good day despite your overprotective boyfriend talking your ear off on the other line of the phone. He had asked for two boxes of police files that he took home to work on, but he conveniently forgot them this morning. Half of you thought he did it on purpose because he really wanted to see you again.

The rest of his teammates were excited you were coming to visit which is why you knew Spencer purposely forgot his case files. That man had an eidetic memory so he couldn’t forget anything even if he wanted to. Knowing what Spencer does every single day makes him a hero in your books. There was no way in Heaven or Hell that you were ever going to be in the BAU because you didn't think you had it in you to do the job correctly. You could barely hurt a fly much less see mangled bodies and blood 24/7. It’s amazing how Spencer keeps himself together due to his erratic memory and the cases he goes on.

“Make sure they’re all there. I left some cases out since I forgot to put them back in the box last night.”

“So, you wait until I arrive at the BAU to tell me this?” you joked as you opened the trunk of your car. “Don’t worry, I got them all.”

“Should I come down and help?”

“Spencer don’t worry about me. I will be up in two minutes. Chill. I love you,” you giggled before hanging up on him. Just as you were about to grab the boxes, you felt a tap on your shoulder and a man who looks like he was in serious need of psychiatric help. His hair was sticking up in all kinds of different directions, but it seems as if he tried to smooth down most of it unsuccessfully. His eyes were wide, and from one look into them, you knew he was on a multitude of medication. His clothes were dirty, and he was fiddling with his hands as if he was nervous. Alarm bells sounded in your head instantly, but you tried to keep things calm.

“Can I help you?” you asked kindly.

“Did you s-say Spencer? As i-in Spencer Reid? Dr. Spencer R-Reid?” he stuttered quickly.

“Yeah, I did. Did you need something? I can get him to come out here.”

“No, no, that’s okay. No,” he whispered. The next few events happened so quickly, you didn't even have time to open your mouth and scream for help or to call Spencer and have him and his team to come down here. The strange man reached into his jacket and produced a gun before slamming the butt of it into the side of your head. That was enough to take you down since he managed to hit you in the exact spot you hit a few days ago on the corner of Spencer’s kitchen counter when you accidentally slipped and fell. Your eyes rolled to the back of your head, and the man picked up your limp body before dragging you over to his van that was parked right behind yours.

If Spencer Reid wasn’t able to protect his daughter, then he was going to take someone very close to him.

“This one’s for you, Spencer,” the man growled as he grabbed the homemade bomb he created for this special event.

“She should be up here by now,” Spencer worried as he gnawed on his bottom lip nervously.

“Kid, would you relax?”

“She hit her head the other day, Morgan, on the corner of my kitchen counter. I had to take her to the hospital for stitches. So, no, I am not going to relax.”

“At any minute now, she is going to come through those elevator doors, and—oh no,” he said when he finally spotted Spencer’s girlfriend. As soon as you came through the doors, all guns were trained on you and shouts began to litter through the bullpen. Derek whipped his gun out before training it on you, and Spencer turned to see what the commotion was when his eyes widened in fear.

“Spencer,” you cried as your body shook. Your hands were up in defense mode, but the ticking bomb strapped to your body was the reason why everyone was on alert.

“Y/N!” Spencer gasped, but Derek held him back from going to you. “What the hell happened?”

“He set this bomb to explode in four hours and told me that it’ll take you five to stop it. Please, Spencer, I’m scared,” you panicked.

“Hotch!” Spencer yelled.

“Someone get the bomb squad here!” Hotch yelled.

“Already on it!” Jennifer said as she held the phone to her ear.

“What’s going—Y/N!” Penelope gasped when she saw what was happening.

“Spencer please help me,” you cried as the tears cascaded down your hot cheeks.

The time was ticking down and it seems like time was speeding up just to give you your untimely death. A group of FBI agents was set outside the perimeter of the place no doubt to catch whoever put this on you. It was unlikely that he would still be out there, but if he wanted to see the after-effects, he would be close by.

“What did he look like?” Hotch asked you as a man from the bomb squad tried to figure out how this worked.

“H-He had d-dark hair, a-and scared ey-eyes. Please get this off me,” you shook.

“We’re doing our best to.”

“Let me be with her!” Spencer yelled at an officer holding me back.

“Please, I want Spencer. Please let him in,” you begged.

“Fine,” Hotch sighed and he got up and nodded to the officer. Spencer pushed past into the tiny corner they isolated you in. Derek, Emily, JJ, Rossi, and Penelope watched from the other side of the room with worried looks. Hotch left the space since too many people might set off the bomb too early.

“I’m right here,” Spencer said as he reached for your hand.

“Don’t touch her,” the bomb squad officer said sternly.

“He was a-asking f-for you,” you tried to keep calm.

“Who, the man who did this to you?”

“Y-yeah. I woke u-up just as he w-was strapping th-this on me. He s-said something ab-about,” you paused to take a deep breath which only turned out to be too shaky since you were so scared.

“Just breathe and tell me when you’re ready,” Spencer said in a calming voice.

“He said something about you not being able to protect his daughter and how if you can take someone from his life, he’s going to do the same,” you shook in fear.

“Hotch!” Spencer yelled when he realized who did this to you. His boss approached the corner at a safe distance before your boyfriend continued talking. “Ramirez Garcia did this to her. Remember the case where a bomber held students in a classroom hostage, and I was the one to try and talk to him, but something I said pissed him off so he blew up the classroom with the children inside. One of the kids was Amelia Garcia, Ramirez’s daughter. He blames me for killing her and now he’s trying to take Y/N from me.”

“Garcia!” Hotch snapped, and the tech analysis perked up at the sound of her name.

“Yes, sir?”

“Give me everything on Ramirez Garcia. JJ, have the police put an APB on him.”

“Right away,” Penelope said as she scurried off to her office while JJ got in contact with the head of the police department.

“Brody,” Hotch talked to the man on the bomb squad, “turn that thing off.”

“I’m trying sir, but this is very complicated. Whoever made it definitely knew what he was doing.”

“I don’t want to die,” you cried. Spencer’s heart broke at the state you were in, and he wished he could be in your place.

“You’re not going to die. We’re going to get that off you.”

“When Spencer?” you panicked. “There are two hours left and you’re nowhere near shutting it off.”

“I’ve never seen anything like this,” Brody commented as he gulped nervously. Spencer looked at you before storming away, and Hotch caught his arm right before he had a chance to escape.

“Where are you going?”

“To read everything I can about defusing bombs,” he said before leaving to his desk. He was not going to let this kill you or anyone in this building for that matter.

“Someone please call my mom,” you whispered as Brody worked on the bomb.

“You’re not going to die,” Derek said since it was his turn to be with you while Spencer read.

“Derek Morgan you call my mother right now because there are thirty minutes left, and Brody’s been this close to me since the beginning so I know the look on his face isn’t good news. Now call her!”

“Okay,” he whispered as he left. Spencer read furiously on his computer before shooting up and rushing over to Brody who looked at him in fear.

“I got the two main wires. One of them will shut it off and the other will make it explode. Red or blue?” Brody asked as the pair of scissors shook in his hand slightly.

“You can’t put this on me to make that decision,” Spencer breathed.

“Spencer, pick one. I know you haven’t been at that computer all this time for nothing. You’re smart. Use that brain of yours and pick one,” you urged as the clock reached only ten minutes.

“We got him!” Jennifer announced as officers brought in Ramirez. They brought the suspect over to you and Brody, and Spencer grew angry as he got in his face.

“Which wire is it? You put this together, so you know how to stop it,” he growled. Your eyes flitted from Spencer to Ramirez to Brody multiple times.

“Red,” Ramirez smirked. The whole place was quiet as Spencer thought about what to do.

“Spencer,” you whimpered when the time hit three minutes.

“Clip the red,” Spencer finally decided.

“Listen to what he says,” you urged Brody who hesitantly reached for the red wire with the scissors. The whole place was silent and the air was thick with tension. Brody took a deep breath before snipping the red, and as soon as the connection was broken, the clock stopped at three minutes and twelve seconds.

“Get him out of here,” Hotch ordered as police took him away.

“How did you know he wasn’t lying?” Jennifer asked as Brody carefully got the bomb off you.

“He wanted to take her from me, so naturally he figured I would think he’s lying which would make me go for the blue which then would kill her. He told the truth because he wanted to try and trick me.”

“Spencer,” you cried as soon as the bomb was off you. Getting up, you rushed into his arms as your body shook in fear.

“You’re okay. I’m right here,” Spencer sighed as he smoothed down your hair. All you could do was cry since words just didn’t want to form in your mouth. Your brain was too stunned to do anything else but cry. The bomb squad got the bomb out of here while the place cleared of police officers. Hotch gave you two some privacy while Rossi and Morgan decided to talk to the guy before they put him away for life.

“You’re okay,” Spencer whispered as he held you as you cried in his chest.

Graphic novel is a stupid term that often encompasses things that are not novels, but I used it as a blanket term for anything comics I read that were bound rather than stapled. Minis are shorter works, stapled, and generally self-published by the artist, or done by a small press like Shortbox or Youth in Decline. I was totally lazy about crediting creators on series because my actual list for that is a grid, keeping track of each issue. Similarly, when listing creators on trades, I tended to only list writer and artist which is enough for some books, but sometimes there are many more, inkers, and colorists and letterers, and maybe I’ll do better next year.

Support your local library, your local comic shop (especially Hub Comics if you’re in the Boston area), and indie comic shows like MICE.

Set sometime around season 5 of Grey’s, Kristen Shepherd is the twin sister to Amelia Shepard and Derek’s youngest sister. When Mark and Addison had their affair, Kris took off to Seattle with Derek because she and Mark had been dating for some time. She is a Cardio attending at Seattle Grace, living her best life and becoming friends with her brother’s girlfriend, Meredith and her friends. Well, she was until Mark showed up. Follow Kris as she handles with drama that comes with working at one of the most prestigious hospitals in Washington

A week later

“Are you ready?” Charlotte came into the room cheerfully.

“Yup.” Amelia sighed heavily.

“Hey,” Charlotte kneeled in front of Amelia, who was sitting in a wheelchair, “what's wrong?”

“They'll all looked at me and whisper and…”

“Amelia, stop! They won't because I'll kill them with my glance before they can even think anything about you.” Charlotte squeezed Amelia's knee.

“Thank you, Charlotte.” Amelia smiled warmly.

“Always for you.” Charlotte stood up and put a comforting hand on Amelia's right cheek. “We should go.” Charlotte walked behind Amelia to wheel her outside of the room.

Charlotte had kept her promise. There was no one in the halls. Amelia was very thankful for that.

“Hey. You look amazing.” Addison came running when she saw the hospital doors slide open.

“Thanks. I guess.” Amelia looked serious but couldn't hold her laugh back. “Sorry, I just had to.”

“I know.” Addison smiled and took over from Charlotte. Addison leaned over to Amelia's ear. “Owen is the best guy there is.”

Amelia smiled like a teenaged girl. This time not a fake one.

They got closer to the car where Owen and Jake were waiting for her. Owen was the first one to greet her outside of the hospital and kissed her quickly on her lips.

“Can we please go?” Amelia pleaded.

“We actually should. Violet is waiting for you.” Charlotte said.

“Aghh. No, Charlotte. Not today. Please.” Amelia tried her best to get out of the shrink talk.

“Amelia. You have no power over this.” Addison said.

“Fine.” Amelia was definitely not okay with that.

Everyone were quiet during the car ride. Amelia sat behind Addison, who was on the driver’s side, and Owen in the middle because he knew Amelia likes to look out of the window when she needed some time.

When the elevator doors opened Owen pushed Amelia to the practice. She stopped the wheels with her hands.

“What's wrong?” Owen asked.

Amelia was quiet and Addison, Jake and Charlotte knew it's their time to leave.

“We're in the kitchen if you need anything. Violet is waiting for you in her office.” Charlotte said and smiled warmly.

“Thank you.” Amelia smiled a little. When she was alone with Owen she said, “I want to do it alone.”

“What?” Owen was shocked.

“I don't want you to push me around here. I want to do it on my own.”

“Ohh, okay. I'll be in the kitchen then.”

“Thank you.” Amelia said and Owen got in front of her. He looked into her eyes and said. “You've got this.” Owen kissed her passionately with all the love he has.

Amelia didn't want to break the kiss because that meant she had to go meet with Violet.

But Owen did and said, their foreheads still together. “You should go.”

“Yeah.” Amelia sighed and felt Owen's lips on hers again.

“See you soon. I'll be here waiting for you if you need me. Take your time.” Owen said and squeezed Amelia's shoulder before he walked towards the kitchen.

Amelia stared Owen's back till he stepped in the kitchen.

Amelia sighed again and started to push herself slowly towards Violet’s office. She could see Violet sitting there with her notepad.

“Great.” Amelia thought.

She tried to open the door but opening it while you’re sitting was way harder than she thought.

Violet heard Amelia trying to open the door. She stood up to help her inside but Amelia raised her hand to let her know she doesn't need any.

Violet was familiar how Amelia responds in situations and knew the best she could do was let her do it on her own way.

After 10 minutes of trying Amelia said angrily. “Fuck this chair!”

It was loud enough for everyone to hear. Owen wanted to go help her but Charlotte stopped him. “She'll get through this.”

Another 5 minutes passed till she got the door open and pushed her quickly between the door, so it wouldn't close again, like it did the other hundreds of times she had tried.

“Those doors were never that heavy when I was here few weeks ago.” Amelia pushed herself in front of the couch where Violet was sitting.

“They are still the same, Amelia. Just your condition has changed.”

Amelia said nothing.

“We actually should've met earlier about other stuff. So you choose which one you want to start with.”

“I don't know. I'd better just leave. I don't need the shrink talk.”

“You do need one, Amelia. Just admit it. If not to me or to Owen, admit it to yourself, in your mind. How you reacted when that little boy died or even what happened few minutes ago are talking for themselves. You need help. You're not dealing with your demons and that will kill you. Slowly and painfully.”

“Just ask me those questions, so I could leave.”

“No, I won't let you just answer my questions today.” Violet stood up and walked to her table. She came back with a white sheet of paper and pencils.

“I'm not interested of playing some little kids games.” Amelia said.

“Just take these. I'll say a word and you draw whatever and use whatever colors what describes your feelings about it. Okay?” Violet held the paper out for Amelia.

“Fine.” She answered and took the paper from her.

“You can think about your personal view of these words or you can take them just as simple words.”

“Yeah, I get it.”

“The first word is woods.”

Amelia drew a hike trail which reminded her the times she went for long runs. She also drew Owen's trailer and the view from the dream house porch to that old tree what was cut down after Derek died.

“Let me know when you're done.” Violet said softly.

Amelia took few more minutes to use some colors too.

“I'm done.” Amelia said.

“Good.” Violet smiled. “Now write words around your drawings which come in your head first.”

Around the hike trail she used green to wrote words like running, free, alone, quiet, no obligations, calm. With Owen's trailer she changed the color to red and remembered the kiss, love, no nightmares, Owen, sparkling water, no game, safe. And the dream house the first thing she wrote with blue was Derek. Happy, the porch, the kids, stars but suddenly she took the black pencil and wrote ALONE, nightmares, no one, oxy. Amelia also wrote Mer, Owen, the dream house, Derek.

“Are you done?” Violet asked after Amelia hadn't written anything in the last few minutes.

“Yup.”

“Next I want you to turn the paper over. Write words to describe these couple of days before and after you came to LA few weeks ago.” She saw Amelia still not moving. “Take your time, there's no rush.” Violet said calmly.

Amelia still had the black pencil in her hands and wrote Penny, Derek, the dinner party, Mer. She changed the color to blue Owen, surgeries, Edwards.

Amelia kept going with the blue when she wrote words about LA. Family, practice, fun, laugh, enjoy, love, ocean, friendships.

Then she stopped. Amelia put the blue pencil slowly on the table and took the black one again. Violet was already expecting that.

Amelia started writing slowly. Patient, my baby, flipping out, no control, the car crash, no memory about what happened. The biggest word she wrote was THE CHAIR.

Amelia threw the pencil on the table and sighed. “I'm done.”

“Great.” Violet smiled. “Do you mind if I read it?”

“Nope. Go ahead.” Amelia said.

Violet took the paper from the table and started analyzing it. “I can see you draw very well.”

“Thanks.” Amelia said without any emotions.

“Should I ask you questions about what you've drawn or do you want to tell me yourself?”

“I'll tell you.”

“Okay.” Violet smiled and handed the paper to Amelia.

“So, with the woods my first memory is from after my first rehab. I took up with running till I got hit by a minivan. I could go for miles because there was no one to blame or judge me. I felt happy there. But after ending up at the hospital I started using again.”

“Okay. That's good, Amelia. What's the next picture about?”

“It's Owen's trailer. We kissed for the first time in front of it. I took a sparkling lime water with me because I don't drink.” Amelia smiled to the memory. “So, I told him I have no game and was about to leave. Owen called out if I want some too but I yelled back that I'm not thirsty. Owen ran after me and told me to stop walking. We looked in the eyes and he told me “I'm going to kiss you now, so don't say anything.” It was seriously the hottest kiss I’ve ever had.” Amelia laughed and so did Violet. “When we pulled apart he said that I can go home now. I felt awkward because we hadn't said anything about having feelings towards each other but we both had them.” Amelia smiled again.

“That's seriously very romantic.” Violet smiled too.

“So the next thing is that tree. It's the view from the dream house porch.”

“What's the dream house?” Violet asked.

“We call it the house what Derek built for Mer. She sold the house after Derek died and now we live in her mom’s house.”

“Okay but why did you decide to draw that view?”

“It was my hiding spot. I loved to watch that old tree and think how much it had been through. All the storms and very hot days, all the damage people have done to that place and the kids playing around it. It just calmed me down. But then they shut out that tree and I had no hiding spot anymore. Mer left with the kids, Owen went to the army, Derek was gone and they even took the tree from me.” Amelia said coldly.

“Is that why you striked through these names and words?”

“Yeah.”

“Did you write oxy there too?”

“Yes. It was when Owen came back. Richard, he goes to AA too, was worried about me after everyone left and I basically lived at the hospital. He invited me for a coffee but I started yelling at him and then Owen showed up. I got oxy and went to the porch. I was deciding if I'll take it or not. Again, Owen showed up and he made me feel all that pain and grief. So I didn't relapse, he saved me.”

“He does change you a lot.”

“I guess.” Amelia responded.

“Do you think some of those problems still haunt you?” Violet asked.

“It still hurts of course to think about Derek and once in awhile it gets very hard but I push it through.” Amelia left the nightmares out because she knows Violet will ask about them too but she’s not in the mood to talk about them.

“How's your sobriety going?”

“It's been okay. People at the hospital know I'm the junky, so.”

“Still no filter, huh?” Violet said and they both laughed. “You can use the words on the paper but you don't have to. I'd like to hear about what happened in Seattle.”

“Umm, we had a dinner party with Mer and Maggie. Callie, she's in ortho, invited her new girlfriend to meet us because she's working with us now. That resident, her girlfriend, came from the same hospital where Derek died. Meredith knew her from the beginning but she said nothing to me. I even hugged that killer.” Amelia was disgusted.

“Why do you blame her?”

“Ha, why? She killed my brother. Penny killed him. He should've had the head CT but they didn't make it. Penny, ughh even that name is just horrible to say. Well she told us she thought Derek needed it but the attendings said there's no need. She just…” Amelia was definitely worked up now.

“She what?” Violet pushed her more.

“Doesn't matter.” Amelia said coldly and crossed her arms.

A pause.

“Okay. What feelings did that little boy bring back?”

“Can I just go?”

“We're not done yet, Amelia.” Violet said calmly.

“Oh, I think we are.” Amelia started pushing herself towards the door.

“Amelia, why you run?”

Amelia stopped and turned her chair, so she was facing Violet once again. “That's a really good joke, you know.” She turned around again.

“Amelia, we're all here to help you.”

“Why don’t you all just step back and leave me alone?” Amelia said angrily.

“Babe, have you seen my shirt?” Derek searched the room, conscious of the fact that the Sheriff would kill him if he was late again. (Y/n) peeked her head around the door, Betsy sat by her feet. She opened her mouth to speak but quickly became distracted by Derek’s bare chest that practically glowed in the winter sunlight coming through the open curtains. Derek couldn’t stop a smirk from making its way onto his face as he watched her blush. He crossed his arms, grinning when her eyes followed the movement.

“Like what you see?” She snapped out of her daze as she desperately tried to ignore the thoughts swirling through her head. Throwing him a playful glare she made her way across the bedroom, opening the bottom drawer of the dresser and tossing his shirt at him. Much to her annoyance, he caught it easily, pulling it across his arms as he smirked at her. (Y/n) moved towards him, pulling him towards her by the open panels of his shirt.

“I wish you didn’t have to go in” She snuggled into him, pressing a kiss to his bare chest. In response, Derek’s arms wound around her waist as he drew her closer. He nuzzled her hair, placing a kiss on her hairline before he forced himself to step away. She was practically irresistible with her tousled hair and sleepy smile. She’d topped off the look by wearing his t-shirt causing an overwhelming urge of possessiveness to travel through him because it was a sure sign that she was his. As he took in her beauty a sudden thought occurred to him.

“Hey, why was my shirt in a draw? I usually keep my stuff in a pile by the mirror” He turned slightly, only to see that the entire pile was gone. (Y/n) fidgeted on her feet, tucking her hair behind her ear as her cheeks grew pink.

“Well, I just thought that you had so much stuff here that you should have a draw, I mean, you practically live here” In that moment, it dawned on Derek that he hadn’t spent a night in his own apartment for nearing two weeks. The more he thought about it, the more he realised how much time he spent with (y/n) and Mia instead of being alone in his own apartment. His hands moved to button his shirt as he opened his mouth to apologise, he’d never wanted to be overbearing or presumptuous.

“I was actually going to ask if you wanted to move him” Derek’s fingers froze as he watched a shy smile form on her face. He searched her face for any sign of uncertainty or hesitation before allowing himself to believe that she was telling the truth. Slowly, a smile pulled at his cheeks, his eyes aglow with love and happiness. (Y/n) stepped towards him, wrapping her arms around his torso.

“I’m gonna take that as a yes” All Derek could do was nod his head as he littered kisses across her face. He scooped her into his arms, spinning them around and relishing in the way her laughter rang around her-their bedroom.

The rest of the winter flew by as Derek moved out of his apartment and into (y/n)’s, much to Mia’s delight. Christmas came and went in a blur of last minute shopping and family meals. Neither of them could remember a time that they’d been happier. With (y/n), Mia and Betsy, Derek finally felt like he had a family again, one that he could truly call his own. He often found himself wondering what their future would be like, he could only hope that he would become a permanent part of their life.

“Are you going to marry my mum?” Derek’s head snapped up from the Lego car he was helping Amelia build. He wasn’t going to pretend it wasn’t something he never thought about but he didn’t know if it was too soon.

“Do you want me to marry your mum?” He watched anxiously as she chewed her lip. Eventually, she nodded her head shyly. Derek smiled widely, overjoyed that he had her approval.

“If you married my mum, would that make you my dad?” Setting down the Lego pieces in his hand, he locked eyes with Mia.

“It depends, do you-“ He had to stop to clear his throat “do you want me to be your dad?” There was no doubt in Derek’s mind that he loved her as much as if she was his own daughter but he could hardly expect her to feel the same way. She stared at the carpeted floor, mumbling quietly. Derek furrowed his brow as he strained to hear her. Amelia looked up, smiling timidly at him.

“Yes,” Derek left out a joyful laugh as he shuffled across the floor to her. He opened his arms, laughing as they fell back onto the floor due to the force she’d used to throw herself into his arms.

“What are you two doing?” Simultaneously they turned their heads to see (y/n) leaning against the door frame, amusement shining in her eyes.

“Daddy and I were building the Lego car that Grandad bought me for Christmas” (Y/n)’s eyes widened, shooting to Derek. He was beaming as he tried to discreetly wipe the tears away from his eyes. She bent her knees wrapping her arms around Mia before crossing the room to press a kiss to Derek’s lips. She laughed softly when she realised that she was crying as well, she never thought she’d be lucky enough to find someone quite like Derek, let alone lucky enough to find someone that Mia loved too.

A week later Derek had bought an engagement ring that he hoped (y/n) would love. It was a simple round cut diamond set in a plain gold band but it was beautiful. As soon as he showed Mia, they started planning how he should propose.

(Y/n) slowly made her way up the stairs, exhausted from a day of meetings and eager to snuggle up with her family while they watched a film. Confusion pulled at her brows when she saw Mia stood outside of their front door, wearing her favourite party dress.

“Sweetheart, what are you doing?” Amelia only laughed, reaching for her mum’s hand as she started to pull her up the stairs that led to the roof. (Y/n)’s questions went unanswered as they reached the door. Mia took the bag from her mum’s bag before hugging her quickly and making her way back down the stairs. (Y/n) watched her leave, growing more and more confused by the second. She opened the door, stopping dead when she took in the sight before her. Just like her first date with Derek, there were lanterns spread across the ground with blankets set in the middle. Derek was stood next to the pile, smiling at her, a combination of excitement and nerves hiding in his eyes.

“Derek, what is all this?” He laughed at her puzzled expression, taking her hand and pulling her against his chest.

“Can’t a guy spoil his girlfriend?” She eyed him suspiciously but didn’t question him as he coaxed her into sitting down. They ate the meal Derek had prepared, groaning as they grew full. They found themselves in the same position as they’d been in months ago, lying back as they stared at the stars. Derek pressed a kiss to her cheek, pulling her closer. He took a deep breath, trying to settle his nerves before he shifted and sat up. She glared at him playfully for moving her before a surprised gasp escaped her mouth. Her eyes flickered between his and the open ring box in his hand.

“(Y/n), I love you more than anything I’ve ever known. I can’t imagine a life without you or Mia. Will you marry me?” His voice shook with nerves as he watched her with uncertainty. She threw herself into his arms, burrowing into his neck. Derek wrapped his arms around her, utterly clueless as to what her answer was.

“Was that a-are you saying yes?”

“Oh sorry, yes, of course, yes” Derek beamed as she rambled. He pulled her impossibly closer, their foreheads resting together as they laughed joyfully. Their lips connected in a tender kiss, both of them overwhelmed by the love flowing between them.

It was nearing the middle of spring when (y/n) began to get sick in the mornings. To begin with, she blamed it on a bug that’d been going around work but when it continued for several weeks she started to grow worried, thinking there was something seriously wrong. It took her another week to realise what was happening. She was getting ready in the bathroom, rooting through the draws, searching for a bobby pin when she spotted a half empty box of pads. She froze, her hand dropping to rest on her stomach when she realised she’d miss two periods. Her face paled as she sat down heavily on the closed toilet seat. Derek made his way into the bathroom, reaching for his toothbrush when he spotted her.

“Babe, what’s wrong?” She blinked at him dumbly before snapping out of her daze.

“What? Oh, nothing, I just got lost in thought” (Y/n) rose to her feet shakily, attempting to smile at him as she made her way out of the bathroom. He eyed her suspiciously, fear curling in his stomach. They’d set the date for the wedding yesterday and he was suddenly terrified that she’d realised she no longer wanted to go through with their plans. His nerves haunted him as she barely gave him a peck on the cheek when he left to go to work.

(Y/n) tried to get herself to calm down as she stared at the box in her hands. Derek wanted to marry her and he loved Mia, so she could only hope that he would want another baby. She chastised herself, she didn’t even know if there was a baby yet. Her hands shook as she ripped the packet open.

The two minutes of waiting felt like the longest two minutes of her life. She braced herself against the sink when the timer went off. She closed her eyes before peeking at the test. Two pink stripes filled the little window. The corners of her mouth twitched as happiness prickled at her eyes.

“Is that a-a pregnancy test?” (Y/n) jumped in surprise as she turned around to see Derek standing in the doorway. His eyes were fixed on the test resting on the counter.

“What are you doing here?” Derek finally moved his eyes, locking them with hers. She tried to read his expression but couldn’t decipher anything.

“I was worried about you this morning, I wanted to make sure everything was okay” Any doubt she felt fell away as she was overcome with how sweet he was and just how much he cared about her.

“Everything’s fine, better than fine actually. It’s great” His eyes travelled back to the pregnancy test, a hopeful smile pulling at his cheeks.

“Is it positive?” His voice was quiet as if he was dreaming and was terrified that speaking loudly would make him wake up.

“Yes,” His eyes filled with tears as he beamed. He moved to sit on their bed, unable to stop himself from laughing softly.

“Yeah? I’m going to be a dad again?” (Y/n) smiled brightly as she moved towards him. She stood between his legs, her fingers threading through his hair. Too overwhelmed with happiness to speak, she could only nod her head. Derek pushed up her top, pressing a kiss to her stomach.

“I love you” His words were mumbled as he littered kisses across her stomach. She chuckled, cupping his chin and tilting his head up words.

“I love you too”  

(Y/n) laughed as she watched Derek and Chris try to one up each other with how many boxes they could carry. She was more than happy to sit out of unpacking this time, Derek not letting her lift a finger now that she was seven months pregnant. She placed a hand on her protruding stomach lovingly.

“Your dad is ridiculous” She smiled down at her bump, Chris laughing as he made his way past her and into the house.

“Hey, you can’t start making the kid dislike me before he’s even born” She let out a loud laugh as Derek set down the box he was carrying next to her feet. His hand rested on her bump protectively as he pressed a kiss to her lips.

“How are you so sure it’s a boy?” He smiled at her playfully before picking up his box again and making his way up the stairs.

“I just know” She shook her head, jumping in surprise when Mia came running towards her with Betsy hot on her heels.

“Have you seen how big the garden is?” (Y/n) ruffled her daughter’s hair, smiling at her antics.

“It’s pretty big, huh?” Amelia nodded excitedly before charging up the stairs to inform Derek and her uncle of her discovery.

(Y/n) made her way through the house, grinning softly as she thought of all of the different memories they were going to create in their new house. She jumped slightly when she felt two arms snake around her waist.

“You should be sitting down” She turned her head, glaring at him playfully.

“I’m pregnant Derek, not inept” He chuckled, pressing a kiss behind her ear.

“I know, I know. I just want to make sure the two of you are okay” Her heart swelled in her chest. She turned to face him, connecting their lips.

“We’ll be fine” They shared a tender smile before Chris pulled Derek away to finish emptying the moving truck. She laughed as she listened to them bicker. When she’d moved to New York, she never could’ve dreamed of ending up with a guy like Derek. But now that she had, she couldn’t be happier.
