adding onto this a little bit there's a few other details that span across designs that's fun to point out, such as:

violet doesn't use the standard black shade that all the other characters have, navy and orange are the only ones with the darkened primary color on their masks, navy and orange's fangs also curve outwards while pink and violet's are supposed to curve inward, violet and navy are the only ones with two sets of fangs on their masks, the rabbits foot that orange has actually being from pink because it leans into her rabbit theme more. i included stuff like this so you could kinda grasp character's relations or differences based on design alone. my thought process is insane and if any of you picked up on this before i pointed it out you get a cookie or two.

i really wish i had the motivation to continue this au, especially considering the thought behind the characters, i just. do not have the time or motivation anymore.

black: the plot never got to this point, but yeah the book of death would’ve allowed him to summon white space hands. also small thing about the mask i never mentioned - it’s asymmetrical to represent both sunny and omori. sunny’s side is a lot softer, with the broken horn and smaller fangs, while omori gets the fucked up eye and significantly sharper points. idk. fun detail.

orange: his rabbit’s foot is visible now, yay! the streak of light behind him is highlighted yellow instead of green because like. yes his card is torn yes he’s activating stomp’s discard but consider - stomp discard is hard to visually show. just pretend he’s doing it. also his shoes are supposed to resemble a paw, to lean into the dog aesthetic.

navy: i never want to draw guns again. the boots are more styled after green’s, but that’s basically the only change.

pink: oh yeah, other than her bat her signature would’ve been illegally modified fireball cards. that’s why their halos are so shaky. the actual modification would’ve been making them double barreled as opposed to the in-game single barrel. didn’t draw her with them because guns suck and i hate them.

lavender: did i ever mention she’s a non-combatant? she does the bare minimum to qualify for the 10 days of judgement but otherwise does not participate. that’s why she doesn’t have any cards.

mint: like black, mint uses the book of death to summon extra help. his is vines instead of hands because duh, it’s basil, he’s a gardener, that’s his whole thing.

drew one bit of joke crossover artwork for a friend and now my brain is back on the neon white grind. I’M ACTUALLY IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING SPLASH ART FOR THE CAST NOW. sketches are done and they look good. not entirely sure what i’ll do with the au after this, because i really like it but it’s way too much work. idk.

well, if it wasn’t obvious, i have no plans on continuing neon black at the moment. so, time for some housekeeping i guess?

to start: the whole comic was done on a notability note, so i’ve attached the whole comic below (+ some bonus doodles and scrapped panels). on top of that, i’m gonna do a recap of the plan i had for the story so y’all can see how the story was supposed to go.

(quick note: notability sucks and changed how highlighters layer over themselves in the middle of the comic. fun game: try and pinpoint the first panel that i made after the change!)

so, the original plan was to just. do the story of neon white but with omori characters, but i realized having it take place before neon white would be more interesting. as such, i had to construct my own story around the world of neon white instead. true to neon white, the halo granted to the winner is a controller and a corrupter, which is why pink is so violent. she was the last of the main cast to die in the real world and died with no form of closure. she ended up being the first to emerge from the glass ocean and become a neon, fueled only by her anger and need for answers. everyone else became a neon over time, with black being forcibly dragged out of the glass ocean by lavender. because of the forced exit, he ends up losing most of his memory, similar to what happens to white in the base game. from there the comic happens, and that’s where i got lost. through assorted twists and turns, both orange and navy would end up sacrificing themselves to save black from pink, and the comic would end with a showdown between black, lavender, mint, and pink. the fight would end with pink killing mint and then lavender and finishing with black, before she herself dies from her wounds. sometime after this the events of neon white happen, and after the “good” end of that game, god writes the main cast into the book of life and allows them a final chance for closure. i… think you might be able to see why i never finished this.

unrelated to this though is the weird card black gets from mint, which is supposed to be a scrap from the book of death. it would’ve allowed him to summon the red hands from white space, like mint does with his vines (cuz those are from the book of death as well). in-game, the book of life is a soul card that allows you to teleport, so like. why not. that’s the only proper plot point that went unanswered, so there’s that. if you were curious.

once again, thanks for the support. the main reasons i ended this were 1) i don’t have notability anymore, which makes it harder to make silly doodles, and 2) i just lost motivation. both neon white and omori have been fading out of my hyperfixation list, and because of that it’s way harder to make content for it. this was also my first time trying to make a comic, and i was definitely in over my head. i still had fun though! i just don’t think i can continue anymore. i think i’m gonna make proper splash art of all the characters, and then properly call it quits after that.

Admin Update

hey gang. i regret to inform you all that i’ve been going through comic-specific art block. for a while i could only draw the comic and everything else looked bad, but now i can’t, for the life of me, make coherent comics for this au.

so, what does this mean? it means i’ll be taking a short hiatus from this au in order to flesh out the story more. don’t worry, neon black will be back eventually, i just need to handle the lore with more care. i’ve been pulling most of this out of my ass, which means i don’t really have anything planned in the long run, which isn’t a good idea. however, to help me get back into the swing of things…
