What is it?

Yet, historically, a major view was not to provide physical treatment but to give the young person time to finish puberty and grow into adulthood to see if the gender dysphoria would self-correct.
Yet, many now claim that the way to deal with this is to give hormone blockers and/or genitalia mutilating surgeries, which they call “gender affirming treatment,” is the answer.
But is it?

15 Year Study: Vast Majority Of Children Grow Out Of Gender Confusion

A landmark study conducted over the past 15 years has concluded that most children who experience confusion regarding their gender identity grow out of it and go on to feel content with their lives as men and women.
The study, carried out in the Netherlands by researchers from the University of Groningen, involved more than 2,700 children, tracking them from age 11 to their mid-twenties.
The Daily Mail reports that every three years, the individuals were asked how they felt about their gender.
At the beginning of the study, around 11 percent, or one in ten of the children, expressed ‘gender non-contentedness’.
However, by the age of 25, just 4 percent, or one in 25, said they ‘often’ or ‘sometimes’ felt discontent with their gender.
The study comes as the controversy over allowing children to be given puberty blocking hormones, or even gender reassignment surgery, rages on.
The researchers noted, “The results of the current study might help adolescents to realise that it is normal to have some doubts about one’s identity and one’s gender identity during this age period and that this is also relatively common.”

Adolescence is an important period for the development of gender identity. We studied the development of gender non-contentedness, i.e., unhappiness with being the gender aligned with one’s sex, from early adolescence to young adulthood, and its association with self-concept, behavioral and emotional problems, and adult sexual orientation. Participants were 2772 adolescents (53% male) from the Tracking Adolescents’ Individual Lives Survey population and clinical cohort. Data from six waves were included (ages 11–26). Gender non-contentedness was assessed with the item “I wish to be of the opposite sex” from the Youth and Adult Self-Report at all six waves. Behavioral and emotional problems were measured by total scores of these scales at all six waves. Self-concept was assessed at age 11 using the Global Self-Worth and Physical Appearance subscales of the Self-Perception Profile for Children. Sexual orientation was assessed at age 22 by self-report. In early adolescence, 11% of participants reported gender non-contentedness. The prevalence decreased with age and was 4% at the last follow-up (around age 26). Three developmental trajectories of gender non-contentedness were identified: no gender non-contentedness (78%), decreasing gender non-contentedness (19%), and increasing gender non-contentedness (2%). Individuals with an increasing gender non-contentedness more often were female and both an increasing and decreasing trajectory were associated with a lower global self-worth, more behavioral and emotional problems, and a non-heterosexual sexual orientation. Gender non-contentedness, while being relatively common during early adolescence, in general decreases with age and appears to be associated with a poorer self-concept and mental health throughout development. So, most with what is called gender dysphoria will tend to grow out of it.
That points to gender dysphoria basically being a psychological or mental health issue.
That has long been known. A scientific study in Iran found mental issues with the transgendered:
Abstract
Background: Co-morbid psychiatric disorders affect prognosis, psychosocial adjustment and post-surgery satisfaction in patients with gender identity disorder. In this paper, we assessed the frequency of personality disorders in Iranian GID patients.
Methods: Seventy- three patients requesting sex reassignment surgery (SRS) were recruited for this crosssectional study. Of the participants, 57.5% were biologically male and 42.5% were biologically female. They were assessed through the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory II (MCMI- II).
Results: The frequency of personality disorders was 81.4%. The most frequent personality disorder was narcissistic personality disorder (57.1%) and the least was borderline personality disorder. The average number of diagnoses was 3.00 per patient.
Conclusion: The findings of this study revealed that the prevalence of personality disorders was higher among the participants, and the most frequent personality disorder was narcissistic personality disorder (57.1%), and borderline personality disorder was less common among the studied patients. 
 Personality disorders are common in patients with Gender Identity Disorder who are candidates for sex reassignment. As a result, the assessment of Personality disorders before sex reassignment surgery and offering psychological and medical intervention care, if needed, is strongly suggested. The results of this study also indicated that Borderline personality disorder is not necessarily the most comorbid personality disorder in patients with Gender Identity Disorder. (Meybodi AM, et al. Before someone dismisses that study because it came from Iran, notice that it is up at the NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information) website, which is an official US government site that, according to the NCBI, it “advances science and health by providing access to biomedical and genomic information.” The fact is that transgenderism is not good and is something to repent of.
Consider also the following from the BMJ:
More children and adolescents are identifying as transgender and offered medical treatment, especially in the US. But some providers and European authorities are urging caution because of a lack of strong evidence.  

Sweden’s National Board of Health and Welfare, which sets guidelines for care, determined earlier this year that the risks of puberty blockers and treatment with hormones “currently outweigh the possible benefits” for minors.
And NHS England, which is in the midst of an independent review of gender identity services, recently stated that there is “scarce and inconclusive evidence to support clinical decision-making” for minors with gender dysphoria, and that for most who present before puberty it will be a “transient phase,” requiring clinicians to focus on psychological support and to be “mindful” of the risks of even social transition. So, there is concern that there is lack of real evidence transgender medical treatments are helpful.
But what about those who actually got sex change operations? Aren’t they better off?

The full report will be released later in 2023, and the reported findings are horrifying. The study found that those who got sex change surgeries experienced bladder problems, pain during intercourse, and other significant issues.

Let me add that I read reports of males who had their genitals removed and replaced with constructed vaginas and were surprised and disappointed that their libido was basically gone. Well, history has shown that castration does that, so that is something all should have known for a very long time.

“Would you rather have a living son or dead daughter?” This question, often asked marketing-style of parents whose child desires so-called gender reassignment procedures, is not just unethical, says the leader of a groundbreaking new study on sexually confused youths.
It is also, says psychiatrist Dr. Riittakerttu Kaltiala, “not based on facts.”
For in reality, administering sexual-distortion treatments (SDTs, aka “gender-reassignment” treatments) does not lower sexually confused youths’ suicide rate.
This is not just because you can’t actually changes sexes, but only become a simulacrum of the opposite one. It’s also because any tendency toward suicide — and sexually confused youths’ suicide rate is only marginally higher than that of average-age mates — is caused by their having psychiatric issues, and not necessarily their sexual confusion, per se.
Making these findings even more compelling is that Dr. Kaltiala actually helped pioneer Made-up Sexual Status (MUSS, aka “transgender”) “medicine” in Finland, but looked at its results and finally concluded that such treatments were not beneficial.

The landmark research from Finland, an international leader in the shift away from medicalised gender change, found that suicide risk in a large group of adolescents was predicted by the psychiatric problems that often accompany gender distress, not by the gender distress itself.
Dramatic claims of the risk of attempted suicide among trans-identifying youth are typically based on low-quality anonymous online self-report surveys with no follow-up checks, potential exaggeration driven by a constant “transition or suicide” narrative, and “convenience samples” unlikely to be representative.
The new Finnish study vindicates that country’s 2020 adoption of a more cautious treatment policy which first targets psychiatric, social and educational problems among gender-distressed youth before any assumption of a stable trans identity justifying “experimental” affirmation with hormones or surgery.
“It is of utmost importance to identify and appropriately treat mental disorders in adolescents experiencing gender dysphoria to prevent suicide; in addition, health policies need to ensure that accurate information is provided to professionals along these lines,” the researchers say in their BMJ Mental Health paper.
As for the underlying “psychiatric problems” factor with MUSS youths, alarms about it have been sounded before. Consider ex-MUSS clinic worker and whistleblower Jamie Reed, who describes herself as a “queer” woman married to a “transman” and “politically to the left of Bernie Sanders.”
“The girls who came to us [at the clinic] had many comorbidities: depression, anxiety, ADHD, eating disorders, obesity,” she wrote last year at The Free Press. “Many were diagnosed with autism, or had autism-like symptoms. Rates of attempted suicide who identified as transgender more than doubled after receiving a vaginoplasty (surgically turning one’s dick into a vagina), according to a peer-reviewed study published in The Journal of Urology.
The study looked at rates of psychiatric emergencies both before and after gender-altering surgery among 869 males who went under the knife, and 357 females who underwent phalloplasty (turning one’s vagina into a dick) in California between 2012 and 2018. 

According to the study, 33.9% of biological males undergoing vaginopasty would experience a post-surgery psychiatric encounter vs. 26.5% for biological women who underwent phalloplasty, if an episode had occurred before surgery.
That’s a lot. 

Suicide Rate 19-Fold Higher
In an interview with The Epoch Times, Dr. Alfonso Oliva, a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, said research into the psychiatric outcomes and long-term follow-up of those who have sex-reassignment surgery is lacking, but an important paper is worth mentioning. In a 2011 paper published in PLOS ONE, researchers found that people who underwent sex reassignment surgery had substantially higher rates of overall mortality, suicidal behavior, and psychiatric morbidity compared with the general population.
“It’s hard to refute this paper because it’s a longitudinal study,” Dr. Oliva said. “In Sweden, everyone is in a database, and through diagnosis codes, they’re able to follow what happens to every citizen in terms of their medical history. They waited more than 10 years after people had surgery and found that death by suicide had an adjusted hazard ratio of 19.1.” 

The recovery process is extensive and vaginal dilation must be performed at varying intervals throughout the patient’s life.
Vaginoplasty Associated With Serious Risks
In addition to an increased risk of suicide, vaginoplasty is associated with numerous physical complications, including wound separation, vaginal stenosis, hematoma, rectovaginal fistulas, granulation tissue, bleeding, infection, skin or clitoral necrosis, suture line dehiscence (when the surgical incision opens), urinary retention or vaginal prolapse.
According to a 2021 paper in the International Brazilian Journal of Urology, a rectovaginal fistula is the “most devastating complication” of a vaginoplasty that can occur “despite careful technique” and without obvious injury to the rectum.
A rectovaginal fistula is an abnormal connection between the rectum and vagina that can cause fecal incontinence, hygiene issues, vaginal or anal irritation, and potentially life-threatening abscesses and fistula recurrence.
A 2021 review in Andrology found that rates of complications following penile inversion vaginoplasty ranged from 20 to 70 percent, with most of the complications occurring during the first four months following the procedure. 

Dr. Oliva said complications with these surgical procedures are very high and he thinks this is why suicide rates are so high.

Actually, yes it is possible. And there has been a consensus for thousands of years by billions of people to assign sex at birth.

The LGBTQ crowd pushes not only transgenderism, but the idea that gender is fluid. The idea that you can be something one day, then another gender another day.
No matter what hormones one takes, no matter how much surgery one has, people born male have XY chromosomes and people born female XX chromosomes.
Yet, men and women are different. While one of the differences is genitalia, there are more differences than that. But one’s chromosomes never change–nor does cross-dressing change the truth. Plus, that is condemned by scripture:
5 A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman’s garment, for all who do so are an abomination to the Lord your God. (Deuteronomy 22:5)
The Bible clearly condemns cross-dressing. It does not consider it to be harmless or to be helpful.

A biological male can take hormones, surgically alter his body and identify as “female,” but the procedures still won’t make him a woman, according to new evidence found by Israeli researchers.
That’s because there are at least 6,500 genes that contain sex-specific instructions for males and females.
For the study by Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science, professor Shmuel Pietrokovski and Dr. Moran Gershoni, both researchers from the institute’s Molecular Genetics Department, “looked closely at around 20,000 protein-coding genes, sorting them by sex and searching for differences in expression in each tissue. They eventually identified around 6,500 genes with activity that was biased toward one sex or the other in at least one tissue, adding to the already major biological differences between men and women.” 

The new findings are further evidence that biological males cannot simply “transition” into females and vice versa, argues Mat Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel.
“This recent study from Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science further proves that you cannot fool Mother Nature,” Staver said. “The saying, ‘I think, therefore, I am’ is best left to philosophy and not science. Gender confusion is mental, not physical or biological. God made male and female, and no amount of protestation will change the natural created order.”
Staver called the idea that a person can choose his or her gender “fiction.”

So-called “gender affirming” treatments –which really oppose, not affirm, natural human biology do not change many biological facts.
Another difference between males and females has to do with the brain.

In a scientific first, researchers claim to have found that differences between men’s and women’s brains start in the womb.
The conclusion is likely to be controversial, with some experts claiming social influences are more important.
But scientists who did brain scans of 118 foetuses in the second half of pregnancy to analyse the links between gender and the connectivity of a developing brain believe the differences are biological. 

According to the US study, published in the journal Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience, female brains growing in the uterus produced ‘long-range’ networks.

While I do not think that this is necessarily “a scientific first” (as others noted brain development differences between male and female brains in utero), it is at least additional proof that boys and girls are biologically different in a way that is not clearly visually seen.
Since this study involved the unborn, it also helps negate the false narrative that ‘gender’ is not biological, but the result of societal environmental factors.
Of course, many ‘moderns’ want to act like there is no difference, but the Bible is clear that men and women are different. God warned that there would be those “who suppress the truth in unrighteousness” (Romans 1:18). But the truth is still the truth.
The Bible also condemns males acting effeminate:
9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. Transgenderism is against scripture.
As far as biology goes, Jesus taught the truth about biological sex:
4 And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? 6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.” (Matthew 19:4-6)

Trigeminal Neuralgia.
Cold air seeped in after a warm day, and I didn’t notice until pain like a cramp spread over my face. The bottom of my neck hurt in a way that made me check to see if I had been cut somehow. It’s nerve damage - the aftermath of a removed parotid tumour. It’s incurable and progressive. People used to kill themselves when they got this. It is what it is. Currently it has died down, with only brief weird reminders. My left ear feels quite ready to fall off. It’s huge, my mind insists, like a balloon, but dead tissue. Of course the mirror reflects the same picture as always; nothing wrong. The misfiring nerve causes the brain to create a false picture of the body. After it hit, I gave up on trying to make dinner and ordered some takeaway as a distraction, but the driver was confused, and kept telling me how I should alter the property i don’t own to make it clearer to drivers as to where I am. I kept trying to point out I have no legal right to do what he was saying, but then gave up and just nodded. It’s hard to explain to someone who isn’t listening when your nerve is screaming in your ear. I tried making an appointment for a medical review I am required to do for my disability pension. I am permanently disabled, but the government here lives in hope of finding a loophole they can use to move me out of that category so I don’t have to be paid. That would result in either death or incarceration, the latter which would be more expensive, but it would be in a different section’s budget, and governments are mostly a group of competing departments trying to save their own money even if it means the death of others. They don’t have to deal with the fact the drug is worse than the disease. Surgery? They cut the nerve.

You will lose control of the side they cut. You will drool from that side, your speech is slurred, you have trouble drinking and eating. And the pain can come back anyway.  The injection treatment I was notified of was botox. It was too expensive for me to try. It might work, but recommending it for me is like recommending I hire servants to carry me about. It’s insane to tell someone on a disability pension to pay for it when most can barely manage their rent. So the Canadian Solution is supposed to be coming to Australia, or so they claim. They will be pressuring people like me to stop being a burden on the government, to stop draining the money from budgets that are collapsing thanks to lockdownerism. The pandermic response is going to kill more people than the disease ever could, but in quiet ways. Less money means poor people die from the cold, or the heat, or in some countries, they will starve. Diseases of other kinds take advantage - other plagues will spread if economies fail. Dysentery is a favorite. It used to follow wars, and the weird thing was you were far more likely to die from such things than the actual battles. Pestilence and War go hand in hand.

I was like this after the surgery, and I knew that it might be permanent. It wasn’t, but the recovery was at a cost. The nerve had to be stretched to access the parotid, and the nearest analogy is to take an electrical network cable, bend it too far, then put it back in soggy soil. The breaks in the sheathing mean that the signal is disrupted, but nerve signals are analog, not digital, and that means that error detection and correction have never evolved. In the wild, as it were, animals who went through what I did just die. It’s only recently that humans have had a fair survival rate - of course there’s no evolutionary adaption to it. And trig neur. is rare - to give you an idea, 13 years ago, when I first had to see experts, there was ONE expert in Australia. Yes, a grand total of one. I think he retired after me, so I have no idea who manages the cases now. The only treatment available was the total avoidance of stress, and I was told that I should get into a cannabis trial, as it had proven effective overseas.

I did. Twice. Twice I went through all the hoops, only to be told they had had to be cancelled because of political interference from America, which was imposing Nixon’s rules on the rest of the world because .... I have no fucking idea. I’ve always been angry at this, especially since I heard Nixon’s tapes, where he was recorded rigging medical trials. He wanted to have cannabis banned because he saw it as somehow Jewish. Alcohol was good clean American fun, so it was ok. And no President has challenged that ruling, not even Obama who admitted to recreational use. Leftists used to claim that they were going to hold Biden’s feet to the fire, make sure he was accountable. I haven’t seen ONE protest from them of the criminalisation of cannabis, despite the fact that it would be trivial for Biden to undo - he could devolve it to the States - but he won’t. Either the cannabis competing drug companies are paying him top dollar to maintain the status quo, or maybe it is from religious groups. I don’t know or care. Left or right, whoever doing it is a fucking asshole in my book.  I remember really changing my perspective on politics when i heard a libertarian say they believed cannabis should be legal, but they would never use it themselves. It is refreshing to see someone who would walk the walk of morality, doing something that doesn’t benefit themselves, simply because it is the right thing to do. Note that i do not believe that legalisation of cannabis has to solve the problems. Do it stupidly, and you will be in trouble. The excessive taxation in some parts means that illegal cannabis can actually be cheaper than the legal product. How do you mess up that badly? How?!!  A reminder than cannabis is a bloody weed, that will thrive in terrible soils and neglect. It takes little skill or love to make a crop. It is incredibly cheap, especially compared to rival pharmaceuticals that can cost thousands of times more for the same efficacy or less.

My conditions are progressive, and the hell of it is that suffering from attacks makes the attacks worse - as it was explained to me, the condition accelerates the condition, so that preventing attacks prevents attacks. For example, i had to stop working because that stress permanently damages the nerve further. I grew a beard, to shield the areas as best as I could from changes of temperature, and sit inside on days when the air is cold, and hide from the night’s chill. But if the medical advise I was given decades ago was correct, I would have still been able to work if I had had access to medical cannabis. If true, that would mean a totally different history for me. Work means not only money, but status, and it also means the difference between retiring with a partner - or being placed into a communal home, without privacy, and potentially with drug-addicted psychotics or thieves... So that path ... perhaps it would have worked, but I will never know. I cannot flip to that history that never was. I am left to tread what remains of this walk. And the Australian government will be trying to steer me into the grave at every opportunity, and if they implement the Canadian model, I expect that will be done with gusto. The sick, the poor, the old, all seen as parasites, as vermin; and dealt with with disgust, and ultimately, violence.

Common Misconceptions & Arguments Within The Turner Syndrome Community
There are many misconceptions about Turner Syndrome. One of them is that Turner Syndrome can be hereditary. Turner Syndrome is not hereditary it is a totally random genetic fluke that happens. I have done a lot of research and none of it says Turner Syndrome is hereditary. I have 3 three sisters and none of them were born with TS I have aunts and female cousins and none of them have it. My three nieces don't have TS. I would say it's safe to say that I'm the only one with TS in my family.
Another misconception is there are some people that believe that males can be born with TS. That is just not true Turner Syndrome is something that affects only females. Everything I have ever read says TS can only affect females. I believe these males could have Noonan Syndrome or Klinefelter Syndrome, but not Turner Syndrome.

I don't think about Syc's body enough. Or I do. But I don't write about it.
This man is a twink twig. But he's literally always been that way. His arms are long and spindly, his legs are a bit knobby at the knees (he's approx. 80 percent leg, actually) and his hips are, uh. There.
The joints in his wrists are a bit stiff and painful on occasion, and he used to be more flexible.
To be honest, he hasn't taken the best care of himself during his lifetime. He does better at it now, but he was a pretty careless youngin' and is kind of paying for his neglect now.
Uh- and I don't mean 'neglect' in the sense that he wasn't taking showers or anything- he definitely was- but he just has a tendency to be kind of careless and a little unaware of his surroundings. Bumps, bruises, sprains, fractures, etc.
He's 5'8, and you could and should probably throw him tbh.
Years of working with Pokémon has given him a little extra upper body strength, but to be fair, a lot of that is also sheer determination. He still doesn't have much muscle definition.
His eyes are blue-gray depending on the light, and his nose is just a little crooked in the middle where it got broken one time. If you really squint, you might be able to tell that his ears were pierced, and he had a short-lived nose ring once. Do not ask.
His hair is naturally curly, and if you cut it shorter, it would curl up even more. The longest it's ever been is probably shoulder length, but he does like to keep it shorter bc who has time for that???
When it grays, it'll be a nice, full, dark gray. He'll keep it.
As far as being satisfied with his body, he's okay. He's a bit envious of Lysandre's stature, and tends to feel like he looks silly compared to the male models and the like in Kalos. He feels like this little awkward scrawny dude and tries to 'make up' for it by being a bit silly and flirtatious just to be cute. A bit insecure next to people like Lysandre.

Introduction to the study
In this study, I will be exploring the correlation between alcohol overuse and the following conditions:
Major Depression
Dysthymia 
Panic disorders and agoraphobia 
Generalized Anxiety 
These condition can have many different causes[1,2]. I plan to focus on just the alcohol abuse.
The dataset used was NESARC (National Epidemiological Survey on Alcohol Related Conditions)
Literature Review
There are several studies to re enforce that alcohol abuse is associated with major depression. Curia et. al. [3] describe association between alcohol dependence and depression before and after the treatment course. Their results show that depression is prevalent among the alcohol dependent persons. Danzo et. al. study gender-wise correlation between alcohol dependence and depression for adolescents. They report for adolescent males, alcohol use and depression are independent. For adolescent females, the effect is by-directional.

WK8 - Body Modification on Visual Platforms
This week my focus will be on the aesthetic standards that are promoted on social media platforms and how this can affect the way one perceives their body, as well as the possible consequences on health.
Idealisation is prominent throughout social media platforms such as Instagram where many images are edited before being posted, thus having a strong influence over body perception as viewing images of females with cosmetic enhancements can have an effect on one's desire for cosmetic surgery (Walker et al. 2015)
These platforms have aesthetic templates (the aesthetic choices that users make, usually involving marketing themselves as an online brand) which are set by top influencers and it is quite easy to see their pattern after some browsing. A woman is expected to be curvy and thin, with accentuated hips whereas a man is expected to be muscular and bulky.
The media has a strong influence on the way users perceive their body in comparison to the ‘ideal’. It is difficult to find posts with minimal editing and more real/authentic body shape.

It is problematic that many microcelebrities will follow the aesthetic templates these top influencers have established, creating strong pressure to produce the ‘ideal body’ and a cycle of conformity.
Being a microcelebrity can be defined as “the state of being well known to a niche group of people, and a practice whereby people present themselves as public personas, create affective ties with audience members, and view followers as fans” (Mavroudis 2020). Microcelebrities need to constantly maintain a ‘branded self’ and compete with other influencers for visibility through this marketing, and a lot of likes/interaction can be gained by posting themselves in sensual positions therefore replicating the aesthetic templates (Mavroudis 2020).
This shows the infiltration of marketing and consumer culture into individual self‐presentation and is facilitated by social media technologies that make potentially broad audiences available to individuals.
Within Western societies pornification has become normalised, which can be defined as a “heteronormative display of sexuality or ‘porn chic’ aesthetic oriented towards a male audience" (Mavroudis 2020). Women pose in ways that highlight body parts, accentuate curves and make them appear more slim. Therefore mainstream aesthetic templates tend to portray women as sexual objects.

These unhealthy expectations of body image (which are often unachievable) can lead someone to pursue cosmetic/plastic surgery and can have negative impacts on both physical and mental health. The most common mental health illness associated with body dissatisfaction is BDD (Body Dysmorphic Disorder), where someone "can't stop thinking about one or more perceived defects in their appearance" (MayoClinic 2019).
The negative impacts on physical health can be a result of cosmetic surgery  which is "a medical intervention that is performed to reshape normal structures of the body to make the patient’s appearance more closely approximate a contemporary ideal" (Wen, Chia & Hao 2015). While it has mostly been portrayed as common, acceptable and of relatively low risk in mainstream media, it is problematic because most patients are healthy and the surgery can "cause scars, numbness, nerve damage, and even death" (Wen, Chia & Hao 2015). There have also been concerns of the media trivialising aesthetic surgery. For example, "reality-based television programs that feature cosmetic surgery typically depict the transformation of ordinary looking adults into ideals of beauty through multiple cosmetic surgeries" (Wen, Chia & Hao 2015). Therefore, the way in which the media frame's cosmetic surgery may affect people’s perception and acceptance of cosmetic surgery. Media coverage that focuses on beneïŹcial aspects in particular generally has more ability to persuade people. The ever-increasing number of physicians who are not board certified in plastic and reconstructive surgery - this is surgery to restore function or normal appearance by reconstructing defective organs or part (Merriam Webster 2020) - performing cosmetic procedures is also concerning.

Despite this, there is a lot of educational material on cosmetic surgery available on these social media networks  and this can help the patient to make a more informed decision.
A study examining posts about plastic surgery on Twitter which made use of the hashtag #PlasticSurgery found that there was a lack of material created by plastic surgeons themselves (70.6% of these posts were made by the public and only 6.0% by plastic surgeons). Furthermore, the material posted by plastic surgeons was not alway objective information - more than a third of posts (37%) by plastic surgeons in the study were self promotional (Dorfman et al. 2018).

Sans’ Death in Handplates: WHO (I mean what) DUNNIT? (Featuring a Little Bit of Orthopedics

Note: I am not trying to be morbid. I am not trying to be creepy. I’ve been studying medicine lately, and I've been reading up on diagnosing other people. I just thought it would be a fun thing to do and a great opportunity to teach others a little about medicine. Note that just like "Misery" itself, this does contain serious themes that may bring up trauma for some people, so if you do not feel comfortable with this, please hit the back arrow now. Thank you.)
In Tumblr user and artist zarla-s' comic "Misery", Sans dies of an unknown illness and Papyrus attempts to move on. Zarla has also mentioned that this comic was a "barely disguised vent [series] about death", making it a series entailing high personal expression. It's all beautifully sad, but there's just one problem...the illness is unknown.
So I, DETECTIVE PIKACHU, ask you to join me on the hunt to find this illness.
The good news is that Sans is a skeleton. This rules out all illnesses with other body systems, narrowing it down to a nice few hundred or so. (Don't worry! We'll only go through the more well-known ones.)
I’ve chosen to lay out six culprits here:
-Arthritis
-Osteogenesis Imperfecta
-Osteoporosis
-Osteosarcoma
-Osteomyelitis
-Acute
-Chronic
-Paget's disease of bone
Because most of “Misery” happened ex post facto,  we don't have the time or the interest to dive into much information about Sans' illness  However, we do know a few things. This illness is:
 -Fatal (uh, yeah) 
-Chronic. Chronic illnesses are illnesses that last for months or years. This isn't a very sudden (acute)  illness. If it was acute, it would likely result in Sans very quickly falling down and Papyrus having to take him to the hospital. 
-Progressive, meaning it gets worse over time instead of better. No, it does not mean the average Tumblr user, although medical terminology can be very confusing (that was a joke hardy har har).
-Very hard to treat. Alphys said there was nothing she could do for him, at least at the stage the illness was detected. -Very unnoticeable, or at least noticeable enough to hide from at least one person until the final stages. 
In addition, we have to analyze Sans' demographics: Sans is male and approximately in his 20s.
So let's examine our first culprit: ARTHRITIS.
By far the most famous skeletal illness, arthritis involves the joints becoming inflamed. This results in them becoming reddened, painful, and swollen. 
Arthritis is chronic, which fits one of the requirements. In addition, it is also particularly difficult to treat, with most treatments being attempts to increase quality of life without treating the overall condition. 
Whether or not it can be hidden from others depends on pain tolerance and how severe the arthritis is. And while *some* cases of arthritis can be progressive, it differs from person to person.
But while arthritis can decrease quality of life tremendously, it is not fatal in the least. And while arthritis affects both men and women, it affects women more often than men. In addition, it famously affects older people, specifically those 60 and older. So Sans obviously does not fit in this demographic.
We can clearly see Sans does not have arthritis.

The second culprit is osteogenesis imperfecta. 
Osteogenesis imperfecta, also known as brittle bone disease, is very straightforward. The individual is born with brittle bones that can break easily, and sometimes for no apparent reason. is very rare, but is still relatively well-known. (And what's very interesting is that individuals who have this tend to have blue sclera from the defective connective tissue that comes with osteogenesis imperfecta. But we all know Sans' eyes are blue for a different reason...)
Osteogenesis imperfecta is definitely chronic, so we can knock it off that list. It is also almost impossible to completely treat, with most treatments aiming at boosting bone strength rather than reversing the condition. And all ages and both genders seem to be affected by the disease equally 
As with arthritis, whether or not the disease.is progressive differs from person to person.
But the only ways you can die from the disease are either respiratory complications in infancy and childhood or if complications arise from one of the factures, which both we'd definitely notice in the comic rather than Sans falling over on a hill (https://zarla-s.tumblr.com/post/141061451866/its-always-too-soon). In fact, the disease would be so noticeable that if Sans had this condition, we'd know from the first few pages.
So we can safely say Sans does not have this condition.

Ah, yes. The third culprit. Osteoporosis.
Also relatively well-known and a meme (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3NUIrVivPhso). Osteoporosis mainly involves bones greatly reducing in density. This causes pain, stiffness, a remarkedly changed stature, and most importantly, a higher chance of fractures. (I have lots of relatives and their neighbors who have this, and most of the time, even my hugs are little more than glorified pats.) Things like playful punches, bumps into the corner of the table, and tripping and falling turn from annoying to dangerous and fatal, especially for a 20-something-year-old. In fact, there are theories that the reason why Sans has 1 HP is because he has osteoporosis (https://www.google.com/amp/s/aminoapps.com/c/undertale/amp/blog/why-sans-has-1-hp-can-bleed/YWjI_bu1GjaVaNqa0pQ61oLaD4GozkE), but this is only for the regular Undertale timeline. In Handplates, we all know that Sans has 1 HP because of the nature of Gaster's experiment. 
Osteoporosis is definitely chronic and progressive. 
As with osteogenesis imperfecta, the only way you can die from osteoporosis is from complications with a fracture. And while it is difficult to treat, it is not so impossible that the most brilliant mind in the Underground wouldn't be able to do anything about it. It would be easy to hide in the early stages, but as it advances, it would become harder and harder to hide, which is something Papyrus would notice for months.
So we can see that Sans does not have osteoporosis. Sorry, meme world!

Osteosarcoma, the third "osteo-" on this list, is more commonly known as bone cancer.
Osteosarcoma is, without a doubt, chronic. And while survival rates continue to go up due to advancing technologies, it still sits at 30 to 80 percent (the chances are probably worse for Sans because of his HP), depending on how early the cancer is caught. And as a society, we all know that any cancer under a 100 percent survival rate is a cancer that needs, that asks to be beaten.
Is it noticeable? Can it be treated? Those can be answered with a big fat IT DEPENDS. If the cancer has affected an arm or a leg, it would be very noticeable, but a bone like the ribs, the clavicle (collarbone), or the scapula (shoulder blade), could be relatively easily hidden by, say, a few layers of clothing or a hood. And treatment depends on the cancer's stage, available technology, and the patients' needs and desires.
Since there is nothing about this that gives any indication that "no, Sans definitely does not have this", this looks like the most likely culprit so far. But just to make sure nothing else is a likely candidate, let's continue down the list.

Osteomyelitis is when a bone becomes infected. Symptoms include a fever, chills, nausea, and swelling and pain at the infection site. (It's something I use in my stories whenever I want Sans or Papyrus to be sick, wink wink.)
When untreated, it is progressive, but it is pretty difficult to ignore simply because of how painful and weakening it is.
It can be hidden from others at its earliest stages depending on where it is, but eventually Papyrus would definitely notice Sans' pernicious fever and chills, and would most likely carry him all the way to the hospital. Is it fatal? It can be, but not in most cases. 
Treatments such as removal of the infected bone, antibiotics, and even draining the bone of the bacteria are available, making this the most treatable of all the conditions we have. In addition, osteomyelitis is definitely acute. It is possible to go home and look at your foot and go "oh crap, my bone's infected, guess I'll head over to the doctors, get treatment, and go back home and move on from this". Okay, maybe not like that. But you get the picture. 
Yeah...Sans DEFINITELY doesn't have this.

Paget's disease of bone is a disease that interferes with bone destruction and regrowth. Your bones don't normally just add on. Osteoblasts add new, stronger bone, while osteoclasts take away bone that is usually old and weak. However, in Paget's disease of bone, the osteoblasts are unusually active, which causes bones to become fragile and misshapen. 
It is chronic, and slowly but surely progressive.
However, there is no way you can possibly die from Paget's disease of bone or even suffer ill health effects that spread beyond the affected bone. And while not easily treatable, it can most certainly be helped by medicine that helps to regulate bone growth. In addition, there is no way it can be not easily noticeable, as a hallmark of this disease is unusual changes in bone structure. Also, it normally affects men in their 40's or older, and we know for a fact that Sans is not forty.

So the culprit must be bone cancer. After further research, I discovered a likely offshoot of bone cancer called Ewing’s sarcoma.
Ewing’s sarcoma is a type of bone cancer that is almost eerily specific. It is almost exclusive to males around the age of 20, which is a good bet of what Sans is throughout “Misery”. Ewing’s sarcoma also has a grim life prognosis compared to other types of bone cancers. Normally, the survival rate is 80 percent if caught early, but for someone Sans' age, the life expectancy for Ewing’s sarcoma is a tragic 30 percent. And with someone with Sans’ condition, that percentage would most likely be much lower.
Again, it would be progressive, but easy for Sans to hide from Papyrus, at least in the early stages. 
Now, there is one iffy part of Ewing's sarcoma; treatment. Despite it being a life-threatening disease, there are multiple effective treatments. This would include surgery, which is impossible if we're assuming Sans would have it where he could hide it, like his ribs or his clavicle.
For radiation therapy and chemotherapy, they are both effective treatments.
But put yourself in Sans' shoes for a moment. Think about it. Both chemotherapy and radiation therapy can and will give you side effects that will greatly decrease your quality of life. But most importantly, they would put Papyrus- the most important person in your life-through watching you go through them. 
Alphys would then have to make the heartbreaking decision to send Sans home to die.
And that, my friends, is the crux of "Misery".

ADHD and ADD
What is ADHD and ADD?
Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a disorder marked by an ongoing pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity- impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development. ADD is a form of ADHD thats primary focus is in inattentiveness. 
What causes ADHD and ADD? 
The exact cause of ADHD is not known. Factors that may be involved in the development of ADHD could be genetics, the environment or problems with the central nervous system during key moments of development. 
Who is at risk of ADHD or ADD? 
Males have been more commonly found to have ADHD then females. Females are more likely to have issues with inattentiveness (ADD).
Risk factors may include:
           * a blood relative (like a parent or sibling) with ADHD or another mental health disorder
          * Exposure to environmental toxins (like lead)
          * Maternal drug use (like smoking or drinking pregnancy).
          * Premature birth or low birth weight
         * brain injuries 
What are the symptoms of ADHD and ADD?
Children with ADHD could show symptoms through:
          * daydreaming a lot
          * forget or loose things often
          * squirm or fidget 
          * more careless mistakes
          * talk a lot
          * take unnecessary risks
          * hard time resisting temptation 
          * trouble taking turns 
          * trouble getting along with others
Inattention Symptoms:
           * overlook details, make careless mistakes in schoolwork
           * have problems sustaining attention in tasks, like conversations, lectures, or long reading. 
           * not listening when spoken to directly 
           * getting side tracked when working on tasks
           * problems organizing
           * trouble keeping materials in order
           * messy work 
           * poor time management
           * failing to meet deadlines
           * avoidance of tasks that require sustained mental effort
           * loosing things needed for tasks 
           * easily distracted by thoughts or stimuli
           * forgetful in daily activities 
Hyperactivity- Impulsivity:
          * Fidget and squirm
          * leaving their seats when they should be seated 
           *  run around or climb things at inappropriate times
           * engage in hobbies quietly
           * constantly being “on the go”
           * talk nonstop
           * blurt out answer before question is fully asked
           * trouble waiting for turn
           * interrupting others often
What are the treatment options for ADHD and ADD?
There is no cure but there are medications to help with the symptoms. 
          * Amphetamines are used (Adderall ZR, Dexedrine, Mydayis, Vyvanse).
          * Methylphenidates are used (Concerta, Ritalin, and Focalin).
Other medications:
          * Strattera 
          * Antidepressants like Wellbutrin SR
          * Intuniv
          * Catapres, Kapvay

Vasovagal Syncope
           Most of you reading this either have Vasovagal Syncope or have no idea what it is. I am one of the people who have it. It may not be a big deal but it is still a condition that is annoying and no fun to have. If you are one of the people that have no idea what I am talking about you may know it under the name Reflex Syncope. If you still have no idea what I am talking about just keep reading.
            Vasovagal Syncope or Reflex Syncope occurs in healthy people who do not have an increase chance at heart disease. Really the worst thing about this disease is that it has no warning most of the time. In short words it can be summed up into the word fainting, but there is so much more to it.
           Sometimes there is a cause and that would be high stress situation. For an example it would be things like: a big crowd of people, hearing a gun shot, seeing a wound, high amounts of bleeding, or turbulence on a plane. That is not always the case. For me fainting happens out of no where.
          When fainting happens the persons blood pressure or their heart rate sometimes both goes down at a fast rate for on temporary time. Before fainting happens the person may become dizzy, become really weak, or lose control of muscles or have blurred vison. I know I'm my experience I get light headed but my vision stays the same.
           After a fainting episode happens a person may become pale, rapid changes in temperature either spiking high or dropping low, be really flushed and warm faced, or feel sweaty. It is more common in girls but only slightly. 3.5% of females have Vasovagal and 3% of males have it.
