Back-Carry Before Conan
Or, BCBC.
For a long time I thought “Conan The Barbarian” (1982) was the first pop-culture appearance of BC.
NB, regardless of improbable contraptions made to “prove” things, no sword carried across the back in this movie is ever drawn from that position; in fact there’s a 3-second sequence devoted entirely to showing Conan getting his sword off his back and securing it at his waist before drawing it.
See it here, starting at 2:40.
In the next section of this scene, Valeria presumably does the same thing; at 0:27 her sword’s across her back, then there’s a brief cutaway to Subotai, and when we’re back with Valeria at 0:30 she’s got the sword at her waist and is drawing it from there.
Incidentally, though there’s often a brief scraping sound as swords leave scabbards, I can’t recall any examples of the infamous exaggerated “schinngg” noise, so I guess that cliché must have developed later.
*****
Then a few days ago, while tidying bookshelves, I found my long-lost copy of Thackeray’s mock-heroic Fireside Pantomine “The Rose and the Ring” (1854). Mine is the 1967 edition, evidently acquired from somewhere at a bargain price...
...and features Thackeray's own illustrations, including this one:
This is definitely back-CARRY, because an over-the-shoulder DRAW is neither intended nor possible. Here’s why...
Notice there’s no scabbard. However, there’s presumably a matching loop or point-cover for the other end, so I can visualise making it work like this:
Grab the sword left-handed and pull the whole arrangement, strap and all, forward and round until the hilt reaches your right hand. Now support the weight of the sword to let the strap go slack, and slide the hilt-loop backwards and off. Without it, there’s no tension to hold the other loop or point-cover in place and it will fall away, leaving the sword ready for business.
I’m pretty sure Thackeray didn’t think through his illustration in that much detail, so it may (?) have been based on contemporary rifle drill; the Crimean War was under way while he was writing, so he’d probably seen troops on parade.
*****
"The Rose and the Ring” is a Satirical Romantick (don’t forget the ’k’) Phantasy, set in a period best described as “Sometime Back Then”, and the periods represented by costumes in the illustrations are... Variable.
King Padella - sorry, that should be KING PADELLA - is wearing armour from 1160-ish. However, Prince Giglio, mentioned at the bottom of the page, looks a bit different.
Here he is, looking like he’s in the American Civil War (1860-ish - which is a good trick since the book was written and illustrated several years before it)...
...while the guards look like soldiers from the Seven Years War (1760-ish) and the prisoner looks like who knows what...
However, here’s Giglio again, in Theatrical Romantick Costume of no particular date...
...and again, now looking vaguely like Charles I as painted by Van Dyke (1640-ish)...
...and finally something which leaves me at a loss about what period it represents. Maybe “When Knights Were Bowled”, if that cannon-ball means anything...
“The Rose and the Ring” is a silly, and yet (in the right mood) entertaining story, and is also a demonstration of how to make Purple Prose earn its keep, since several characters speak not unlike Minette and the other affronted-Victorian-children cats who occasionally appear on Tumblr.
Whether this is a Good Thing or a Bad Thing depends on the reader...
There are several on-line versions: Internet Archive has a well-illustrated one here.
*****
And I still wonder what he’d seen or read to make him draw the carry-strap on that sword the way he did...

Miss Universe National Costume 2024, Part 2!
Splitting this off into a new post so I'm not clogging up everyone's dash quite as much.
Miss Malta is some sort of environmental protection Sailor Scout. I think the giant bow would look better on the back of the skirt but otherwise this is solid.
It has just come to my attention that I skipped over Miss Albania and several other A/B countries, back at the beginning. I sincerely apologize! She went to all this trouble putting together a Fifth Element cruise ship passenger costume, and I nearly missed it.
Miss Armenia, in what even I have to admit would be a legit Princess Leia fit.
Miss Bahrain, adding some green to her Gold And Vaguely Historical look, along with what is either a comically large prop chalice or an upside-down lamp.
Miss Bangladesh appears to believe that adding two plush tigers from the toy store around the corner from the pageant venue will conceal the fact that she is just wearing a tiger-print evening dress. Miss Bangladesh is incorrect.
Miss Belgium. Girl. No.
Miss Belize let the seventh-grade art class do her whole costume, which was a bold choice.
Okay, I think that's everyone I missed! Back to alphabetical order. And I should have to rely less on shitty screenshots, now. Some countries were benefiting from the low resolution, tbh.
Kind of feel like Miss Maldives had a luggage mishap and she's just wearing the outfit she packed for a slightly dressy dinner.
Miss Martinique's costume would honestly have looked better in the shitty screencap version. The construction is... bad. It's bad.
Feel like we're in a little bit of slump here. Miss Mauritius did not stick enough butterfly appliqués to her gown to conceal that it is, in fact, just a regular evening gown.
Slump officially over! We are so back. Everyone say thank you, Miss Mexico.
I would like this better if it had just committed to the giant skirt and not felt the need to make it a Sexy Miniskirt look. Sorry, Miss Moldova.
Miss Mongolia wanted to stand out from all the other gold armor on stage, so she decided to a) wear cooler armor and b) bring a bow and arrow instead of a sword. Great work, Miss Mongolia.
Starting to feel like I'm picking on the smaller countries that probably don't have a huge pageant culture or the budget for really elaborate costumes, but on the other hand Miss Montenegro's costume is super low-effort AND the fabrics look cheap, so what am I supposed to do?
Okay, this looks like a pretty standard Miss Universe Sexy Bird, yes? Well, THIS is how Miss Myanmar entered the stage:
She had to fight her way out of that thing! God only knows what the visibility was like in there.
I think the hat is doing most of the heavy lifting to keep Miss Namibia's costume from being Just An Evening Dress, sadly.
Oh, yikes. It's more obvious in motion but Miss Nepal's bodice looks like it's made of craft foam and it fits real weird. The rest of it looks a little like she got together with Miss Cyprus and a pile of tablecloths for a sewing bee last night, I'm sorry to say.
Miss Netherlands has chosen a Tribute to Delft. I think if I were in charge of this costume I would do a much fuller skirt that falls from the waist, instead of the weird trumpet-skirt-with-hoop we've got here. And, obviously, I would make the windmill on the bodice actually spin.
It looks like she's having some issues keeping the wings and peplum in place, but I really like Miss New Zealand's costume from a design perspective. It at least slightly resembles the bird it's supposed to be (New Zealand fantail) and I think the feather pattern is meant to be in a Maori art style.
Miss Nicaragua is a Sexy Cathedral, which I think might be a Miss Universe first and is definitely a big old step closer to drag.
Okay, pausing here to get the next batch ready.

SLEIGHT OF HAND | LYNEY
summary you will not let lyney get to you. unfortunately, lyney already got to you the moment you met eyes. after all, what is a magician if not an expert in stealing hearts?
or, local sumeru architect goes to fontaine looking for inspiration and comes out of it with three rainbow roses and a crushing magician.
warnings 13+, gn!reader, follows the fontaine archon quest, so there are major spoilers throughout the entire fic! MURDER (lyney trial spoilers) + feminine french pet names ough + bff!Aether loml + sweet talker lyney + KISS SCENE (suggestive)
notes 8K words. thank u to my french bff art @aanobrain who said lyney is a magician he would say mon lapin 🤧❤️ + other various french pet names. thank u to ellie hyomagiri & earthtooz too for hyping this up, my supporters…
“500,000!?”
Sumeru streets are always bustling with its people—from children skipping around the neighborhood to frantic scholars who zip back and forth before returning to their homes when the moon is high. However, the sun is beating down on everyone right now: street vendors are making a profit, dogs are barking as they play fetch with laughing children, and you stand across the blond traveler and his floating companion.
You wince at the volume of Paimon’s shrill voice, inciting bypassers to send miffed glances your way. Embarrassed, you cover the side of your face with a hand, whispering, “Is—is that not enough? I can—”
“No, no, it’s not that!” Paimon’s arms flail around, eyes blown comically wide. “It’s just, you know, more than what we earn from our daily commissions combined!”
“Oh, I see.” you nod, relieved. “Well, I can lower—”
“No, no, no, no,” Paimon interjects hurriedly, and even the traveler shakes his head. “Pleasure to do business with you! Paimon and Aether, at your service!”
“Really?” you can’t believe your luck—the traveler himself agreed to escort you to Fontaine! Or does it count if Paimon agrees on his behalf? “That's a relief. Even Katheryne of the guild had a strange expression when I posted my commission.”
“It’s probably because of the amount of zeroes you might’ve accidentally put,” Paimon murmurs.
Aether tugs on her foot as if warning her. “We'll be leaving soon. Are you prepared?”
“Oh, yes. My stuff’s over there by the bench, you see?”
Aether and Paimon’s faces simultaneously fall. “All of that?” Paimon starts counting it, gaping when she has four little fingers held up.
They sure complain a lot. “You can still back out.”
Aether takes a deep breath, making his way over to your luggage. When he brushes past, you hear him chanting 500,000; 500,000; 500,000 under his breath. He wordlessly carries all of them, his chest puffed and expression grave.
“They’re heavier than I thought,” Aether wheezes out as Paimon flits worriedly around him. “How long are you going to be staying in Fontaine?”
“Oh, just a day or two, maybe,” you say, taking pity and taking one bag from him. “Most of what’s inside are art supplies.”
“Ah,” Aether says.
“500,000,” Paimon reminds him.
“We’re close,” Paimon says, flying back to where you and Aether are still walking behind, him heaving and you offering water now and then. “I saw a huge ravine-looking view! It was like a city on a waterfall!”
“R-Really?” Aether puffs out a breath, sweat rolling off his temple.
You tried prying some of your bags away from him when it seemed like there were monsters up ahead, but he refused instead to fight them with one hand on his sword. He still won. You guessed that he was trying to make traveling easier for you, yet all you felt was immense worry.
“Are you feeling okay, Y/N?” Paimon asks, floating beside you. “You look unwell.” You should ask your companion that, instead.
“I’m a bit nervous. After all, it’s my first time traveling outside of Sumeru.” You smile, patting her head. She doesn’t seem to mind, beaming back. “But I need to get out of my comfort zone to be better, right?”
“That's right! Paimon has a feeling you’ll enjoy Fontaine!” You and Paimon glance at Aether when he heaves a heavy breath, yet he only waves the pair of you off with his free hand. “Before you know it, you’ll be itching to travel again once you’re back in Sumeru.”
“I'm only there for work. I just need to learn a lot, and then I'll enjoy it.”
“Still a student through and through, huh…”
“I can see it,” Aether chimes in, looking all too relieved to rest his arm finally. “I can see Fontaine up ahead.”
You feel the cool breeze brush against your face, a refreshing change from the past hours you and the other two have been trudging through the desert. You could strip off layers and dive if you could. You can make out the harbor even miles away, pouring water out like an endless waterfall stretching for miles.
Arriving in Fontaine is introducing yourself to the rustle of layered skirts, the water-kissed smell, and citizens left and right babbling about tragic endings and thrilling climaxes.
Aether sets your bags on the floor with a heavy exhale. Paimon feeds him with another jug of water.
“I guess we’re here now.” You pull out a heavy pouch you’ve been keeping in one of the bags Aether had been holding over his shoulder. Paimon takes it with greedy, greedy hands. “Thank you for keeping me safe and carrying my luggage, Traveler— are you even listening to me?”
“There’s a girl over there,” Aether says, now staring ahead.
You and Paimon turn to look; sure enough, someone is standing by the edge, looking forlornly over the water. Half of her foot is off the platform, making Paimon fidget.
She gasps. “She isn’t going to jump into the water, is she? Maybe we should go check on her…”
Halfway through Paimon’s sentence, you gathered the courage to speak to the girl with the cat ears.
“Hey, miss.” Her ear twitches. “Is something the matter?”
She turns, looking faintly surprised. If you weren’t so close to her, you wouldn’t have been able to tell there was a change in her expression. “I'm fine. thank you.”
“Oh.” Now things are a little awkward. “Is there something in the water you’re looking at? You might slip if you keep tipping forward.”
She peers below, unworried—silent.
“As long as you’re okay, I guess,” you sigh, awkwardly hovering above her shoulder when realizing it might come off strange if you touch her. “I’ll leave you be.”
Her lips twitch, something close to a smile. You don’t stick long enough to admire it, heading back to Aether and Paimon and shrugging at their inquisitive looks. “She says she’s fine.”
“I think it’s time for me to separate,” you say. “I want to take all of it in as much as possible. Paimon has my payment. Thank you both so much for keeping me safe.” Mostly Aether, though. But Paimon was there, emotionally.
“It’s no problem,” Aether says, his smile warmer than when you first met him. “Stay safe out there. You can look for us if you need anything else.”
“I don’t always pay 500,000 for each of my commissions.”
Paimon wilts. Aether flushes, stammering, “Not what I meant.” You laugh heartily as they wave when you walk off to the aquabus, hopefully, prepared for what Fontaine will give you.
Your sketchbook is a page away from completion when you hear about a magic show at the Opera House. Not that it was hard to miss—everyone and their grandmothers were prattling about nothing else but the entire day.
Fontaine is known for its love for dramatics, but the twins they keep mentioning must be a one-of-a-kind spectacle to have half their region’s population speak about them so reverently.
After wandering for hours, taking in the endless sights of fresh water streaming and grand castle-like modern buildings, you find yourself in the Fountain of Lucine. You’ve heard of Fontaine being somewhat titled the ‘City of Love,’ but seeing couples surrounding each nook and cranny of the tourist spots was still astonishing.
(You console yourself by thinking that there’s something romantic in sketching frantically while the rest of the crowd are sucking faces.)
To your luck, you spot three familiar heads in the fountain plaza.
Aether senses you before you can even say anything, glancing to the side and smiling when you wave at him.
Paimon flutters excitedly. “Y/N! We didn’t think we’d see you again this early. You look like you’re glowing.”
“Was it that obvious?” you laugh sheepishly. “Fontaine is beautiful; I couldn’t even stick too long in one place before I see something else that catches my attention.” You look to the girl you met earlier, who nods politely. “Hello. Are you three acquainted now?”
“Mhm!” Paimon says, hands on her hips. “This is Lynette! She’s inviting us to the show they’re holding here!” She gasps, “Speaking of—”
“Ah,” Lynette says quietly, “I couldn’t get an extra ticket. I’m sorry.”
Lynette is the magician you keep hearing about? With her seemingly reserved personality, you wouldn’t have guessed it. “Oh, no, it’s fine. I wouldn’t want to impose.”
“Paimon,” Aether speaks up. “They gave you your ticket, right? Why don’t you just float next to me or sit on my lap?”
Paimon’s eyes sparkle. “Great idea! That way, I can give my seat to Y/N, right?”
“You guys…” Your chest feels warm as Aether hands you one of the two tickets in his hand. “You really didn’t have to.” Is this what 500,00 gets you? The loyal companionship of Aether and Paimon?
“It’s a good idea,” Lynette says. “My brother wouldn’t want you to miss the show. He’d be devastated.”
“If you insist, then I suppose I can’t refuse.” Aether and Paimon do a cute little cheer. “But I need to return to the hotel; I can’t be watching a magic show carrying all these.” Surely Aether can understand.
Later, with your hands finally empty and charcoal-free, you rush back to the Opera Epiclese, the person standing guard kind enough to open the doors despite being a minute late.
“Welcome, one and all, to the Opera Epiclese!” The audience roars with cheers as the spotlight illuminates a figure on the center of the stage. You hurry to your seats, brushing past Aether and Paimon. “I am the star of today’s show, Lyney.”
Lyney bows, then stands upright with a Cheshire cat grin.
The thunder of the crowd’s applause is deafening. If you weren’t able to see it, you’d think that you hadn’t been clapping at all—senses numbed and your fixed stare all on the boy on the stage.
Your eyes catch on the small braid on the side of his head before the gleam of his eyes hypnotizes you.
He’s handsome, you think dizzily at the back of your head.
“Don’t blink,” he says, his voice lower as if meant to be a whisper, “or else you might miss it.”
The show proceeds. A dove soars away from inside as he flips his hat; you flush at hearing the soft laughter that slips from him after. The cards that materialize out of nowhere descend to the floor. His fingers shuffle the cards while talking to keep the audience satiated; they fly off his hands, yet he doesn’t lose focus, stretching them mid-air with a sleight of hand. They fall apart and come together neatly and precisely.
His stage presence is demanding. It would be as if Lady Furina herself would accuse you of committing a crime if you were to look away for even a second.
Then, when he scans the crowd, busy twirling his cards in his fingers, his gaze catches your awed ones.
Something in the air shifts. Or maybe it’s that it slows.
A card slips from his grasp. A mistake. He blinks and breaks eye contact, laughing heartily to play it off. But you don’t believe it—not when you swore your limbs locked in place as well when lilac drilled into your soul.
You breathe, hands bracing against your chest. What was that?
You would’ve played it off as something you imagined if not for Lyney continuing to glance at you occasionally. His slip-up had been forgotten, as though it was all part of the show.
(Is it also part of the show when it seems he’s unable to tear his eyes off of you?)
Of course, the twins prove their worth. They showed you exactly why the people of Fontaine adore watching them through theatrical magic, cards in their sleeves, and defying logic.
You’ve shuffled to the edge of your seat as Lynette disperses into bubbles and comes back alive. You’ve held your breath as Lyney emerges from the box across he was in a moment earlier.
You’ve also been witness to the murder of Cowell.
CRASH.
The shatter of glass resounded along with the horrified gasps of the audience. Sickeningly enough, you could almost hear the crack of bones if you hadn’t been crying out in alarm. Yet, as they gape and shriek over the sight of a limp arm popping out, you find your gaze tracing back to Lyney, who stands motionless in front of the box.
When Lady Furina points fingers and has everyone siding against him, the guards escort the audience from the Opera House. All evidence presented left Lyney in a spotlight unlike his performance: with a disgusted and unamused crowd. Even you have to agree that it isn’t looking well for his case at all.
Yet all you can think of as you leave the room is that Lyney looked as terrified as everyone else was—much too raw of an expression for someone to accuse him of anything at all. He looked young and scared.
(His hands were shaking.)
The rest of your Fontaine trip is admittedly duller when you’re a little more familiar with its city and don’t have a yapping little fairy and a capable Traveler by your side. It’s hard not to hear chatter about the events that went down: Lyney’s trial, Aether volunteering to be his lawyer, and the truth behind the real murderer.
It solved a case beyond the murder of Cowell. Fontaine sure has its mysteries, and the crowd sure loves them as they would a magic show.
You keep your hands busy. Last night, you found yourself thinking back to the magic show, to deft fingers weaving through cards, to violet eyes that kept on flickering to you. By the time you snap back to reality, you’ve subconsciously drawn shapes and lines that suspiciously look like the magician himself: the curve of a smile, piercing eyes, and you entranced by it all.
Flustered, you crumple his face staring back at you out of sight. Yet you can’t bring yourself to throw it away.
You shove the last bit of garlic baguette in your mouth to furiously bat these unwanted thoughts away.
“Isn’t that Y/N?” Paimon’s voice is unmistakable, a short distance off.
You jump out of your skin, spinning to see Aether and Paimon waving and walking over to you. You thought they'd already left Fontaine after that; you wouldn’t blame them if they did.
“Y/N! We haven’t seen you since the Opera House performance,” Paimon exclaims, twirling around your head like a thrilled fly circling a trash can.
You hold onto her back, hoping she’ll stop making you dizzy. “We were escorted out before I could say goodbye. I couldn’t watch the court trial but heard it all turned out fine.”
“That’s right!” Paimon nods proudly. “Paimon helped a ton during it; you should’ve seen it! What have you been doing?”
“I found a fellow architect while visiting the cafe nearby, and we chatted for hours,” you say, remembering that your voice is hoarse for that reason. You also don’t tell them you couldn’t get a certain magician off your mind. “I learned a lot. I don’t regret coming here one bit.”
Paimon says something else that you’re sure you’ve nodded absentmindedly at while your gaze wanders over to the two familiar people a few feet behind, watching you three with cat-like eyes—and it’s not just because of Lynette’s unique features.
“Those are the magicians, right?” you gesture behind Paimon and Aether as if you haven’t already familiarized yourself with their faces.
Paimon nods. “Uh-huh. You should introduce yourself! They look like they want to talk.”
Something about that feels foreboding. “Um, no, it’s fine. I don’t want to be rude and interrupt your conversation.”
“No,” Aether says firmly. He seldom speaks; you might as well play along if he says so. “Besides, Paimon is right. Lyney wants to talk to you, you know?”
“Oh, yeah! He kept mentioning seeing someone sitting beside us! And it couldn’t have been Neuvillette because he said it was an unfamiliar beauty that bewitched this weak magician’s heart.” Paimon nods, even recalling how he’s enunciated each syllable theatrically.
“I’m sorry?” you blurt. “Lyney recognizes me? What did I do?”
“Paimon thinks it’s because Lyney is curious about who Lynette met! He was like that with us, too.” Paimon changes her pitch to match Lyney’s. “Are these your friends, Lynette?”
Aether’s eyes feel like they know something you don’t. “It won’t hurt to strike up a conversation with Lyney. He’s been shaken up since the trial.”
There’s something unspoken hidden in his words. “What does that mean?”
Paimon doesn’t wait for an answer, grabbing you by the arm and dragging you to where the twins are waiting. Aether chuckles as he jogs behind.
“Paimon, Aether,” Lyney says, almost sly, “You haven’t introduced us to your friend here.”
“Paimon can do it!” She floats on top of your head and does a bit of jazz hands. “This is Y/N, the one who commissioned us to escort them from Sumeru up to Fontaine.”
“Generously,” Aether adds.
It’s a little embarrassing to have the legendary Traveler and Paimon introduce little old you to a famous magician such as himself, but his grin is still excited.
“From Sumeru?” Lyney repeats, smiling wider when you nod—as if that crumb of attention is enough for him. “I see.”
He performs a bow around the same height as where your hands rest; he takes one, kisses the back of your palm, and smiles against your skin. “I’m Lyney, and she is my sister, Lynette.”
“It’s nice to see you again.” You smile at Lynette, who nods in return. Lyney straightens to look at his sister.
“We met when the Traveler and Paimon just arrived at the harbor,” Lynette sighs even without looking at her brother.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you,” you say, meeting Lyney’s eyes. The spot where he kissed is still warm—tingling. “Your show was incredible, despite what happened. I’m glad that the truth revealed itself.”
“Thank you.” Lyney’s gaze sharpens. “I saw you at the performance, yes. I was worried for a second you might steal the show if you were to come up on stage.”
You blink. “Are you saying—”
Lyney grins, “I apologize that the night had to end that way; it must’ve been horrifying. Say, what if I give you a little show right now to make it up to you?” Did he make it up to each one of his audience, too?
This is not a man acting “shaken up,” as Aether put it.
“You really don’t have to.” You glance at Aether and Paimon, silently asking for help; however, they’re too far gone, urging you to say yes with gestures and encouraging nods.
Lyney tilts his head, demanding your attention on him once more.
You sigh. “I would love to see it if you don’t mind.”
“Of course!” Lyney looks like he’s the sun bursting personified. “It would be a pleasure, ma chérie. Not to worry, it’s nothing life-threatening. I just need you to focus on me.”
Not that it’s hard. The others have become a dull buzz in your mind as Lyney holds your gaze. “Okay.”
Lyney smiles, much softer, satisfied. “Good. Now,” he tips his hat, “recently, I’ve received a little lesson from someone about the language of flowers. Are you familiar with them?”
“Not in Fontaine, no,” you mumble, watching his hands closely. You were expecting a rabbit to hop out of that hat any second now.
“Shame. But I suppose I wouldn’t want to spoil the fun.” Lyney snaps his finger, then deposits his hand inside his hat. “Hmm… Oh? Something’s not quite right. Would you mind looking into this hat for me to see if the flower is here?”
You hesitate. The hat is so close to him.
Swallowing, you nod, leaning in to inspect his hat at a careful pace. All you can sense is the faint scent of heat Lyney is emanating, the breath you two share, and the pounding of your chest. You swear you could also hear his, matching yours.
“The hat’s empty.”
Lyney smiles wider. “Yes, perhaps because you already have it.”
You jump back in surprise, your hands patting your body to see where he could have snuck the flower in. With your frantic movement, the flower falls off from what seems to have come from your head—Lyney catches it.
His mouth carves into a smirk, leaning to invade your personal space, his free hand coming up to tuck hair behind your ear. “Careful.”
Your face is burning. Plucking the flower out, the delicate and tender pink sears into your palm. “What does this flower mean?”
“What does it, I wonder?” Lyney whispers thoughtfully. “I suppose you’ll have to tell me once you find out.”
And when he inclines backward, it feels like you can breathe again. Time flows normally, and the people passing by seem much louder than before—as though you’ve surfaced from underwater.
Lyney clears his throat. “Shame I haven’t prepared myself a grand show for you, but I suppose that would call for another time, wouldn’t it?”
Lynette is looking at Lyney as if he is stupidly amusing.
“Thank you,” you say, burning, burning. “For the show, I mean.”
“That was a little weird,” Paimon whispers to Aether, but she is terrible with keeping volume and has everyone turning to her with varying expressions. “P-Paimon means that was good! Wow, Lyney! Isn’t that a different flower you gave us? That’s the flower Charlotte was talking about, right?”
“Rainbow rose?” Aether supplies.
“Yes! It means—”
“Ahem.” Lyney is quick to interrupt. “Lynette and I must take our leave now, if you don’t mind. It was fun catching up with you two.” You have to hold your ground and not look away when he hones in on your figure. “And it’s a pleasure meeting you. Don’t be a stranger. Look for me if you want more.”
His smile is a little devilish, you now realize.
“Bye,” Lynette says blankly, following after her brother, who seemed to be hurrying to exit.
His ears were red.
“You’re still staring.”
“I am not,” you rebuke hotly, flailing to cover Aether’s mouth with your hands. Yet all it does is bring your attention back to where Paimon and Aether are staring—the rainbow rose on your person.
Paimon and Aether yelp when you drag them away despite Lyney having already left the scene.
“Hey—! Don’t just go dragging Paimon around like a balloon like that! Did Lyney get to your head that much?”
“He did not.”
Paimon tilts her head, frowning. You shy away from her worried gaze, glaring at the flower instead. You still don’t know how Lyney managed to get it there; you hold it to your chest, where your heart is racing miles per minute because of his stupidly smug smile.
“What does this flower mean, Paimon?”
Paimon seems elated to be of help. “Easy! Charlotte told us that Rainbow Roses mean ‘passion’ and most notably ‘romantic encounters’!”
“Passion,” you curse. The rose seems as if it is staring back innocently, unknowing of the turmoil you’re going through because of it. “Romantic encounters.’ ugh.”
You can still remember how Lyney’s eyes twinkled as you felt his breath against your face.
“Ooh, he thinks he can trick me. He thinks he can affect me just because it pleases him to do so. I’ll show him. I’ll show him! I am not a blushing maiden!”
“You’re already very affected by this,” Paimon says, yet it’s lost by your newfound determination. Two can play at this game.
You’ve definitely been staying in Fontaine longer than what you told Aether and Paimon, but you can’t leave yet. Not when you found yourself walking to a flower shop to purchase a vase, fiercely digging through soil, turning gentle when your fingers reach for the Rainbow Rose. Not when you see it in the corner of your eyes as you try to sleep, and you find yourself daydreaming about a charming violet-eyed virtuoso.
It’s for research, you excused lamely at the hotelkeeper who didn’t ask why you’re extending your stay. In truth, not that you’d tell anyone. It was because you were hoping for another grand show from him. A farewell show for you—closure.
If you were to travel back home and get too drunk to think straight, Kaveh would learn about your crisis (romantic awakening?) and laugh at your face.
In hopes of looking for your Fontaine architect friend, you spot Lyney instead, on the side of the street surrounded by cheering kids. They clap and jump, and Lyney laughs. “One more, one more!”
“Again?” Lyney does an exaggerated sigh. “I’m starting to run out of cards in my sleeves. I’ve guessed my entire deck from your hands by this point!”
“But, Mr. Magician,” one of them whines, pouting up at him and blinking, “we want to see more! We want to know how you do it!”
“Alright, how about this, hm?” And then Lyney peers right at you. Ironically, you’re the one startled when you’ve been watching that entire spiel, and he hasn’t acknowledged your presence beforehand. “Y/N, would you mind giving these children a little show with me?” He gestures for you to come closer.
“What show?” you ask suspiciously, taking slow steps in case he pulls out another flower out of nowhere.
“You don’t have to worry,” Lyney laughs. “Will you be my assistant for this show? You are very familiar with this trick.”
“Please, we want to see!”
You falter at the little kids’ excited grins, especially when paired with Lyney’s pout and round eyes. “Okay, tell me what to do.”
His eyes do the little gleam again. “Stand in front of me, mon lapin.”
Your heart is skipping beat after beat, making itself known as you shuffle until Lyney is directly behind you.
“Relax, chérie, you just need to stand still.” It’s a little hard to relax when you feel his breath against the back of your neck, but you won’t give him the satisfaction of admitting that, so you keep your chin high and relax your shoulders. “Good.”
He begins to speak louder to his awaiting audience. “I know it’s hard to keep your eyes off this beauty before me, but watch the hat for a surprise, alright?”
He flips it for his little audience, one hand resting on your waist and the other extended to hold his top hat. The proximity is almost suffocating. You watch with bated breath, and they complain about it being empty.
“Oh, is it?” Lyney hums, twirling the hat until it’s flipped upside down, presented right before you. “Perhaps I need my assistant’s help.” You snap out of your daze when you realize he’s talking to you. “Y/N, do me a favor and show them the flower inside.”
You reach inside the hat and, much to your surprise, feel a stem. You pull it out; the Rainbow Rose stares back at you, almost mocking you, saying he did pull out a flower out of nowhere. It's this trick again.
The kids gasp in awe and confusion—it’s all the same for Lyney, who snaps his fingers and creates magic like he was made to. Like magic was for him to summon with his hands.
“What? It was empty!”
“Where did that come from? I was watching Mister Magician’s hands the whole time!”
“Are you a magician, too?”
“No,” you say lamely, holding the rose, feeling Lyney still patiently standing behind you. Heat crawls up your neck. “No, I’m not. It’s all Lyney.”
“It’s all me,” Lyney echoes in amusement. “You’re quite magical yourself.” Finally, he spares you, pulling away to stand beside your figure. He doesn’t take the rose back—maybe even give it to one of the children. He knows exactly what he’s doing. “That’s enough for today. The sun is setting, and your parents might get worried.”
They pout and slump their shoulders, but Lyney has this older brother's sternness to him that has the children scurrying back home anyway.
You then realize having to stand in front of Lyney was unnecessary.
The flower is warm. Lyney’s eyes slip to yours.
“I didn’t even have to stand in front of you like that,” you complain, heart inclined to race off your body.
“Yes, but I feared that I would slip up again if I were to catch a glimpse of your face,” Lyney admits smoothly. His lips curl into a smirk when you stare wordlessly. “What? Don’t believe me? I had to improvise when I saw you watching from afar.”
“A great magician such as yourself? Making a mistake? I doubt it.”
“You already have such high expectations placed on me, chérie,” Lyney says, his smile easy, but his ears are a little red, poking out from his hair. “That’s no good. With no audience, I’m just plain Lyney’ to you.”
“No trickery? No cards up your sleeves?” you play along.
Lyney doesn’t miss a beat. “No, though I do have a few more roses begging to be held by your hands.”
“They can keep begging.” Lyney grins wider when you glance down at his hands. “Do you give them off to everyone you meet?”
“Who do you take me for?” Lyney isn’t offended; he laughs, delighted. He is preening under the sunset—or maybe it’s your attention. “Of course not. At least, not like this.”
You stare, unimpressed. “Sure.”
“So cold, chérie,” Lyney sighs, plucking the stem from your fingers to slot it behind your ear. It seems he likes doing that. “Here I am, trying to get you to warm up to me, and you treat me like this.”
“You don’t have to. I’ll be going back home soon anyway.”
Lyney’s expression shifts into something more unrecognizable, his eyes dipping down to somewhere below your nose. “Oh. Avoiding attachment?”
You nod.
He grins, and he’s still so close. He knows how to entrance his audience, pulling you in until you forget to resist. Always watch the hands; yet Lyney could be digging a dagger to your side at this moment, and you wouldn’t even notice.
“I’m flattered you even want to avoid me because you know you’d get attached,” he purrs, tilting his head. Is Lyney just big on personal space?
“Don’t assume,” you retort. “I know how guys like you think. Even a magician as great as yourself can’t trick someone who’s already seen through it.”
“It would be easier if it were just a trick, wouldn’t it?” Lyney sighs, much to your confusion. “I take it that someone has told you what this flower means?”
You’ve nearly forgotten all about it. “Yes.” You find yourself unable to look directly into his eyes. “I know.”
But even with that, you can still feel his heavy gaze, pinning you down and threatening the strength of your knees. You suppose it comes with being a performer—watching his audience carefully, pinpointing each micro expression to say the right words.
“There doesn’t have to be any attachments.”
“What are you trying to say right now?”
Lyney’s reaches for your hip, sharing your gaze like he doesn’t know how to do anything else. “That you enamor me. That I am holding back from wanting you. I know you feel the same—you can never hide anything from a magician. But if you’re concerned,” he mumbles, “then this doesn’t have to mean anything. You may call it infatuation.”
You want to laugh. Or maybe you want to cry. Most of all, you want to nod helplessly, wrap your arms around his neck, and give in. It’s hard not to when he looks at you like that. “You want me that bad?”
“I almost want to disagree.”
“Almost?” Lyney gets closer, and you stop him with a palm on his chest. “We’re outside.”
Lyney grins. “Have you forgotten what Fontaine is also known for? No one would bat an eye. Love is in the air, and all that.”
“Absolutely not.”
“So still you’re letting me?”
You laugh this time. Letting him, as if you aren’t the one itching to pull him close and find out what he’s like behind the curtains. “Are you asking me as plain old ‘Lyney?’”
Lyney brightens, clearly pleased there wasn’t a ‘no’. “Yes.”
“No tricks?”
“No tricks. No strings.”
You let him lead you away into some dark alleyway. He kisses you like he was longing to do so all his life. You have only met him that fateful day, not even a week ago. But you claw at him like you get it—like he’s ruined you for anyone else the moment you shared gazes in the Opera House.
Romantic encounters, you quietly recall as Lyney swipes a thumb over your aching bottom lip.
You don’t see Lyney the day after that. And for some reason, it makes the itch worse. (Perhaps it’s because you’ve gotten a taste and can’t get enough.)
It’s mostly your fault, the sudden disappearance—you’ve cooped yourself up in the hotel room, buried your face in pillows, and screamed. You berate yourself for giving in, but another part of you—one that’s louder than any other thought in your head—wants to do it again. Wants to hold his handsome face in your hands and have him kiss you breathless. That was nothing like you had ever felt before.
You groan. It’s another new day. You might as well make some progress with your portfolio.
There’s a Café you’ve been visiting more often than not. Ordering a drink and spending a good chunk of your day sketching the view. Instead, you find yourself staring at Aether, Paimon, and Lynette seated at one of the tables.
Lynette’s eyes flick up to yours as she sips tea. She murmurs something to the other two, and you watch with amusement as Aether and Paimon’s heads snap to face you.
You let your gaze wander, eventually landing on Lyney, who is reciting his order with his charming-act-on smile, who is present because of course he is. You want to turn and run away, but that’d be letting Lyney win, and you’re nothing if not stubborn and prideful.
“Y/N!” Paimon greets once you’re within earshot, kicking her feet happily. “Good morning! What are you doing here?”
“Breakfast,” you reply, waving at them. Aether pulls a chair from the other table and gestures for you to sit. “Did I interrupt something?”
“Nope!” Paimon swipes a fork from the table and digs in on the Ile Flottante, leaving nothing for Aether. “Lynette and Lyney told us about another show they’re holding to make up for the previous one.”
“Mouth full,” Aether reminds her, a little too late as the Ile Flottante spews from her mouth.
“Really now? Maybe I can pay properly for a ticket this time,” you laugh, nodding at Lynette. She smiles faintly, hiding it behind the rim of her cup. Lynette sure is the polar opposite of her twin brother.
A shadow looms from behind, the silhouette of a figure with an unmistakable top hat. You tilt your chin and see Lyney peering down at you with a sweet smile. You will yourself to keep your gaze focused on his eyes only and nowhere else below the nose.
Speak of the devil…
“Sweetheart,” Lyney says instead of exchanging pleasantries like a normal person.
“Lyney,” you reply in kind. Then you look away upon realizing that Aether, Paimon, and Lynette had been silently watching the exchange with muted, stunned expressions.
Lyney, holding a tray of drinks and food in both hands, scoots the chair next to yours with his ankle. “I wasn’t informed that Y/N would be joining us,” he says, setting the drinks and plates down like a waiter with a flourish. “You can drink mine. Let me order another.”
You hold onto his wrist as he makes his way back. He turns to you, surprised. “Let me at least pay for my own breakfast.”
Lyney grins, delicately withdrawing from your grip. He places a loud kiss on your hand. “Don’t worry about it.” And then leaves, because he can’t take no for an answer.
“Is it just me,” Paimon starts as you resign yourself to finishing Lyney’s drink (It’s your favorite, the one you always order), “or is Lyney acting weird around Y/N?”
Aether laughs. “There's definitely something going on. Don’t end up staying too long in Fontaine, now. What was it you told us? ‘A day or two’.”
You huff, your face turning unbearably warm. “Shut up, you two. I am here to do research, not to find a summer fling.” You’ve already failed, but they don’t need to know about that.
If you were to touch your lips with your fingers, you’d think of no one else but Lyney’s hands on your hips and his mouth swallowing your words.
Lynette clears her throat, a quiet but noticeable thing. “Don’t be fooled by my brother, Y/N.”
“Oh, don’t worry. I’m still keeping my safe distance.”
She shakes her head. “That’s not what I mean. Don’t be fooled by my brother.” She stares at you from the rim of her cup—something about that has you listening obediently. “No matter what he tells you, he always cares too much. No matter what you may think, he always gets hurt first.”
“That’s not…” You can’t imagine that. From the start, it’s always felt like he was the one who could do what he wanted.
No tricks.
Lynette is his twin, after all. She knows him best.
No strings.
Defeated, you sip on the straw with the same fervor of an aggravated hilichurl, and that’s the end of that.
Conversations during breakfast are much lighter when Lyney returns with a full meal as his treat. Celebration, he says. Celebration for what? Who knows? Lyney winked, but his glance directed to you said enough.
“You say that you don’t want to get attached, but you’re awfully close to the Traveler, of all people,” Lyney says offhandedly once the others have left for their own matters.
You lean against your seat, grinning. “Are you jealous?”
He doesn’t say anything, instead upturning his nose as if scrambling to regain control. You laugh, oddly endeared. Lyney turns his head away, trying to hide the smile that curls his lips upon hearing it.
“Hey,” Lyney says seriously, reaching for your hand. “Where have you been yesterday?”
“Why? Missed me?”
And because he’s Lyney, he takes his time kissing each of your knuckles. It’s more intimate than the whole ‘no strings’ arrangement you agreed on, but you suppose Lyney thinks that any physical attention is free reign. “What would you do if I said yes?”
“You’ll be fine,” you say slyly. “You’ll have to get used to it if you want to risk your heart just to get laid.”
He rolls his eyes, tugging you closer. “I’m not risking anything to get laid. Do you think so lowly of yourself, chérie?”
“Isn’t this all there is to it? Physical attraction,” you ask, genuinely confused.
Lyney blinks. “Of course, but—” His eyes flicker down, and his words trail off.
When you speak, you feel your breath bounce back from his skin—a testament to your proximity. “Lyney,” you whisper. For what? Urging him to continue? Urging him to close this distance? You’re not sure, either.
You have so much to ask. What do you mean? Why can’t you finish your sentence? Why don’t you just kiss me already? But it’s hard to speak; Lyney’s name is all you can think of.
You whisper his name again. His grip on your hands tightens and loosens, a frustrated frown creeping up his brows.
Your hand shoots out to reach for the back of his head and give in. He flinches for a second before relaxing completely.
His lips almost taste sweeter than his words. Almost as sweet as how he finds purchase on your waist and holds your chin during every kiss.
You pull away to breathe, missing how he leans closer to chase after you and pouting when he can’t. “Yeah. That—That didn’t have to mean anything. I just wanted to know what it felt like again.”
“Yeah.” Lyney licks his lips, his gaze unable to tear away from where yours are swollen. “Yeah, I know. You taste like my drink.”
Really, no one’s surprised you gravitate towards each other again, feeling like you’re soaring and melting into a puddle at the same time. Lyney doesn’t touch you where you both know would cross the line, but he grips near possessively to what he can, as if breathing you in and worshipping your skin.
You know after this, he’d go back on stage, fooling his audience with what’s invisible to the average eye, as if this never happened. You know this because this is your deal: satiate the feverish attraction you have with each other and leave once you’re satisfied. (But you also know that you’ll be thinking of his touch and his lips while you stare at the vase beside your bed.)
Lyney is a magician, first and foremost.
He hooks you in, and keeps all your attention to himself like he’d die without it. Then he disappears with a snap of a finger. He’s finished his trick, leaving you befuddled in your seat with more questions than answers.
As you drift off to sleep, all you can think of is that there are two roses now.
“Brother.”
Lyney looks up from where he’d been entertaining Rosseland, seeing Lynette with a stern face. “What? What happened?”
Her tail flicks. “You said you weren’t going to get attached.”
Lyney exhales softly, his eyes slipping shut. “I’m not.”
Lynette finds herself smiling softly. “I may just be your assistant, but you can’t lie to your own twin.”
He buries his face in his hands. With his sight gone, images of your face while whispering his name flash in his mind. His eyes fly open, mortified, his whole face red. “I don’t know how it happened. I didn’t think it’d be deeper than that.”
He was the magician in this, but it felt as if you were the one who tricked him instead.
It’s been two weeks since you first arrived in Fontaine. By this point, you’ve grown more familiar with its views than your own city. Having Aether, Paimon, Lynette, and even Freminet around doesn't make it any easier for you to feel at home.
And then there’s the Lyney Situation. You meet up most nights, more than that when he’s free from shows. He keeps seeking you out, and you keep letting him in. There was one night where Lyney spent the night instead of heading straight to the door—and those nights turned into two, then three, and then he finds any excuse to keep doing it.
It’s not like you could stop. He told you look for me if you want more, and you always want more, because how could you not? Lyney treats you like he’s never had to take care of anything more precious but still manages to render you breathless like you’ve never experienced thrill the way he gives it to you before.
But you still have to go back home. And Lyney still has his own life, has his secrets. He feels untouchable even when your arms are wrapped around his neck.
No strings attached can still work for summer flings, doesn’t it? And what are summer flings, if not just that?
Lyney hovers above with his hands caging your face. He’s grinning so wide—and you’ve seen all kinds of smiles on him with your time spent together, but it was never this genuine.
“You’re bad for me.” He says it like a confession, a prayer.
You raise an eyebrow. “What did I do to you?”
His hand trails down until he’s rubbing shapes on your hips. “Make me feel like I’m myself whenever I’m with you.”
At your silence, Lyney clears his throat. “But it’s not like that, don’t worry. I just mean—”
And how does that even make sense? He pours his heart, then later reveals it’s nothing but a decoy to keep this facade realistic.
“Oh,” you say.
That was the final act you’d been waiting for. The final trick—the farewell show.
And so you pack your bags—shoved your sketchbook back inside, face forward, and promise not to look back. Leaving Sumeru hasn’t even been this hard.
Aether and Paimon shouldn’t be surprised if they find you missing; they’d been the first to know that your stay in Fontaine isn’t meant to last forever. And you’ve warned Lyney about this. Avoiding attachments? It felt more like running away from your problem.
Lyney is a busy man on his own; you’re nothing but some architect from a different region who happened to get caught up with him at the right time.
You sigh and call for the aquabus.
A hand clasps around your wrist, pulling you to collide against a familiar chest. Lyney’s eyes are wide, almost insane. Sweat clings to his forehead, and his breath comes in frantic pants.
“W-What—”
Lyney’s eyes search your face. Or maybe it’s him trying to convince himself that you’re right there, in front of him. “You didn’t even tell me.”
“I—I’m sorry—”
“Were you just going to leave like that? Don’t you think I at least deserve a farewell?”
“Lyney, I’m sorry. I know, that was stupid.” You haven’t seen him with an expression like this before—so raw and broken, begging to be glued together with your hands. “I didn’t want to formally say goodbye because I knew I'd want to stay.”
“That’s stupid,” he repeats in agreement.
You breathe shakily, eyes scanning the stunned crowd. What’s The Great Magician Lyney doing here? Holding some stranger in his arms? That must be what they’re thinking.
“How did you even know I was leaving?”
Lyney’s eyes cut down to his hand, gripping a crushed rose. “I was paying a visit to an empty room.” Embarrassed, he tries to toss it away, but you take it before he can.
You wordlessly place it in its home: the spot behind your ears. You don’t tell him that the two other roses he gave you serve as bookmarks in the sketchbook you’ve used all up in Fontaine. Where you’ve drawn his face more often than not.
Lyney groans in frustration, his hands curling around your waist. “Is staying so bad?”
“It’s not like I’m leaving forever.”
And then you notice Lyney’s hands. They’re shaking uncontrollably, not unlike how it did during that incident—and with it came the frantic exhales, as if natural human breathing alone is already hard enough for him.
“Oh, Lyney,” you say softly. You drop your bags and embrace him fully.
He doesn’t hesitate in pulling you closer, burying his face on your neck. “Don’t—don’t,” he gasps, “don’t just try to leave like that.”
It’s hard seeing Lyney like this. He’s usually so composed and easy-going. He gulps in a deep breath, and his voice cracks as he calls for you. This must be something out of his control—something deeper than the back of his stage.
“Y/N,” he whispers.
“Lyney,” you call back as gently.
He swallows your surprised noise with his mouth, moving against you like you’re his last meal on Teyvat. He’s still shaking, but it has subsided the longer you stay pressed against each other. You’re not sure if it’s his Pyro vision or if it’s your skin burning at the thought of Lyney’s skin against yours. It’s searing.
This is different from the last kisses you shared.
Passion, you think dizzily, breathless from his hunger. This is passion.
“What was that for?” you ask, embarrassingly winded.
Lyney brushes his thumb over your bottom lip. He looks sad. As though he only comes alive when you’re with him. “A kiss to make up for your absence in the following weeks.”
“I can always come back,” you say. “No, I will come back. I promise. I just need to get home for a bit.”
“Okay.” Lyney nods, exhaling heavily. “Yeah. I know, I understand. Once you come back, come straight to me, alright?”
“Of course.” You lean in to kiss his cheek. You’ve never done it before because it always came off too intimate. And judging by the blush that explodes on his face, he thinks the same.
It all doesn’t matter. The line has been crossed days ago; you’ve just been turning away from seeing it.
He kisses you again. Then again. “Have a safe trip,” he says in between kisses. “I almost wish you commissioned me to escort you, regardless of the price.”
“What, you want 500,00?” The aquabus has arrived; Lyney grips you a little tighter, childishly willing himself not to see it.
“500,000 kisses, and more.” Lyney rests his forehead against yours, his captivating eyes keeping you still, the way it always does. “But you can give me that when you come back.”
( Before they were taken away from the stage for an investigation, Lynette comes up to her brother and asks, “What happened back there, Lyney? I thought you were about to twist your own fingers.”
He is unsure how to tell his sister that he saw your awed expression and nearly lost his wits.
“It was nothing,” Lyney admits, his face growing hot at recalling his slip-up.
It wasn’t out of embarrassment, no—not when the memory of your wide-eyed beaming expression and how his mind blanked along with the skip of his heart plagued his mind.
“It was nothing,” he repeats numbly. It’s not. It was the start of something. )

the nameless stowaway | yandere! capitano x reader
summary: while on a ship trying to get to natlan, the captain found a way to pass time; watching you, a stowaway.
content warning: the captain killed someone and that's about it!! (tell me if I missed anything)
for two days and three long nights had the captain been on this ship as it aimlessly navigated the sea.
it started on the second day when the ship went slightly off course. the captain of the ship could not figure out how to get back on course and now, the captain was forced to remain on the ship and slowly get sick of it and everyone on the ship.
besides him, eight other people occupied the ship, not including the captain of the ship... oh, and you were also there.
you were a sneaky stowaway and he only ever caught glances of you at night - watching as you snagged snacks from people's bags and ran back to wherever you had come from.
he didn't mind, nor did he care enough to stop you, that was, as long as you didn't try it on him.
but, tonight was a bit different - instead of stealing from people's bags, you snuck into the galley and shut the door behind yourself. the captain chuckled, you would have a feast tonight.
most of the passengers had felt too sick to eat that morning, so most of the food had been left untouched.
you had eaten all that you could, hoping it would keep you full enough for the next two days before creeping out of the galley. you knew that the captain knew, and considering all you had heard about him, you were afraid that one day he could come and behead you for stealing people's food.
but he hadn't, not yet at least.
you went back to your hiding place, behind a large pile of luggage, and snuggled up in your thin, sort of damp blanket and rested - soon enough, you'd be in natlan.
...
when a storm came, and the waves got violet and rocked the ship - you could not rest behind the luggage, let alone outside. you got up from where you rested, blanket over your shoulder as the cold rain pelted down on your skin.
no one was out; all of them rested in the berth, and you could not enter it since you had snuck onto the ship.
at this point, you were shivering, tumbling, and drenched in rain - seeing no point in your blanket anymore, you tossed it away, as you did, you saw the captain, standing at the door of the berth... exiting it?
you stilled, this was the perfect time for him to kill you, right? he would toss you overboard and no one would notice or even know that he had killed you, maybe, or maybe he would draw his sword and chop you up into little piec-
"I'm sure you must be regretting your decision to sneak onto this ship now, right?" it was an idle conversation or perhaps a threat, was he threatening to tell everyone?
"oh? sorta... but, it'll be fine once we get to natlan."
"I doubt we'll make it to natlan. it seems more likely that we end up back in snezhaya," the captain sighed afterward - he would have to report to the tsaritsa and blame the captain of the ship which seemed all so childish.
"huh? I thought this ship was headed to natlan..."
oh, you looked so very disappointed. the captain shook his head, "that's no longer the case. the captain has no idea where he's headed."
"aren't you the captain?"
"the captain of the ship," he clarified, shrugging his coat from his shoulders and approaching you, placing it over your trembling shoulders, "I'm afraid i cannot make room for you in the berth - you'll have to make do with my coat."
...
and, of course, you made due.
you survived the storm - you might have come down with something but you survived. as you lay in your hiding spot, the large coat over your shoulders, you waited for the passengers to finish their breakfast so you could have the leftovers.
it was a while before you heard the passengers quiet down, and you figured they had split up, leaving the galley, so you got up, leaving the coat behind, and snuck into the galley.
they had hardly left anything behind today.
"hm..." still, you ate whatever was left behind. though it wasn't filling, it was something and you were grateful.
after finishing, you turned to leave but there stood the captain - wait, how long has he been standing there? "have you been watching me?"
"nonsense," he replied with a firm shake of his head, before stepping past you, "I see you haven't changed in your ways?" was he teasing? of course you haven't changed! you were starving and-
the captain set a plate of untouched biscuits and other foods on the counter, "woah... where'd you get those from?" you inched towards the plate, grabbed the biscuit, and ate it.
"it's all leftovers."
"those guys are hogs," you mumbled as you stuffed your face with another biscuit.
and the captain bit back a smile.
...
it was times like these where you doubted if you'd survive - for the last five days, all you could smell was saltwater and humid air, and now, you could smell nothing.
you hadn't bothered to get up for a while now - instead, you remained curled up in the captain's coat, pitying yourself.
perhaps this wasn't worth it...
"stowaway, where are you?"
it was the captain. he had been looking for you for a while now - he was under the assumption that you had fallen overboard but he couldn't be sure since he did not know where you went to hide every day after snagging food.
you didn't want to reply, but found yourself doing so anyway, "'m here."
the captain paused and turned to face the pile of luggage. "have you been hiding here the entire time?"
"yeah..."
you didn't sound well, not at all. the captain pushed the luggage aside and though you groaned and protested, he tugged you out of your hiding spot, his coat still wrapped around you.
"you took no precaution before getting onto the ship, did you?" the captain looked at you - sickly and pale, and sighed. "stay here, don't move an inch," he instructed you before standing and walking off.
first, he ruins your hiding spot, and then he walks off? it was a shame you were too tired to fuss about it.
when the captain came back, he had a warm drink in hand. he crouched down to your level, took your hand, and placed the drink into your hand, "I doubt it'll cure you, but, you're deathly cold, it will surely warm you but I'm afraid this is all i can do to help."
"thank you," you mumbled before sipping at the drink.
while you sipped at your drink, the captain fixed your hiding spot that he had ruined and felt the urge to give you another one of his coats to keep you comfortable, but he resisted.
...
each day, the captain would bring you a warm drink to help your cold clear up, and though he doubted it would work, you were already feeling much better.
you had crawled out of your hiding spot for the first time in a while, the captain's coat over your shoulders and you snuck to the galley.
just as you opened the door, you knew you had messed up - there was a man inside, and he had seen you.
you weakly smiled at the man, as you took a step back while he took steps towards you, "are you the rat that's been stealing all the leftovers?"
"i... um, maybe?"
"and are you the rat that's been stealing from people's luggage?"
"yes, but i'm sorry! i won't do it again, i promise-"
everything you had said was enough to piss the man off and the sight of you wearing the captain's coat only made him angrier.
the man grabbed your upper arm and tugged you along with him, even as you whined and tried to explain yourself, he did not listen.
"look, I'm sorry i won't do it again-"
"i don't wanna hear it from you-"
"I'll take the stowaway from here," it was the captain, once again swooping in and saving you, "good looking out. I'll make sure they cause you no more trouble."
the captain grabbed your arm and tugged you from the man's grip, pulling you along as he walked off, out of the man's sight. "you need to stay put," the captain commented as he brought you back to your hiding spot, "go on. I'll bring you something to eat - I'll do that for you every day, will that keep you out of trouble?"
"you don't have to-"
"I will. now, stay out of trouble."
...
"what'd you do with that stowaway?"
"i did away with them."
"really now?"
"of course. i would not lie."
"good, if you hadn't stopped me that day, i would have done it mysel-"
the man could do nothing but scream as he fell overboard and into the cold water.
soon enough he would die.
this was the preferable way, there was no need for the captain to bloody his sword over something so trivial.
...
"don't you feel hot wearing all of that armor?"
"not particularly."
"what about the mask, isn't that hot?"
"no."
"is that your hair?"
reaching forward, you tangled your fingers in his long black hair, "it is," the captain gently nudged your hand away, "there's no need to touch, though."
as sweet as you were, he had seen you sneeze into your hand moments earlier.
"my bad," you apologized, setting your hand to your side, "do i have to give you your coat back ever?"
"we've been over this, no? i have many other coats, so, keep that one," the captain replied, looking at you and the way your lip twitched at his reply.
"look at that cloud," you pointed above the two of you, and the captain looked up, "it's heart-shaped."
"I see that," he nodded before glancing at you; the way you smiled at a silly cloud was - hm, the captain found himself smiling while looking at you.
odd.
"wait-" you stood up, quickly running towards the railing and pointed ahead, "do you see that?? isn't that land??"
the captain also stood and looked to where you were pointing, and indeed, it was land. "you have a keen eye," the captain looked at you, at the way you grinned, at the way you held yourself, and dare he say he would miss you.
"ohmigosh!!" you cheered, leaning further over the railing to see where you were going... you saw snow and your shoulders dropped, "no way..."
the captain chuckled, looking at you once more, "this was all such an inconvenience," but, in a way, it felt worth it; after all, he was able to meet you.
"you were pretty cool, thanks for the coat... and um, thank you for not throwing me overboard or something," you looked up at the captain to see he was already looking at you.
"I wouldn't dream of harming you," the captain assured you and though you couldn't see it, he had hearts in his eyes as he looked at you.
he did not want this ship to reach snezhnaya - he preferred things stay the way they were but he knew that couldn't happen.
the captain was patient; he could wait. a person like you wouldn't give up on their dreams so easily.

BES Mizu x Reader - Tranquility
Summary: One evening, two odd fellows walk into your father's inn, requesting keep.
Warnings: Fem!Reader, Reader believes Mizu is male, comfort, angst, use of he/him and she/ her pronouns for Mizu depending on POV
Humming gently, you busied your hands, bustling about the front room of your father's humble inn, dusting, polishing, sweeping- anything to pass the time. With your back turned, you hardly noticed the pair of men that wandered in, ducking under the curtain entrance.
"Welcome in!" you chirped over your shoulder, hearing footsteps approach the counter. Hurrying over and behind it, you turned to face them with a warm grin. "Good afternoon, sirs. How may I be of service?"
"We need a room," the shorter one said. He was significantly more slender than his companion and wore looser clothing and a wide kasa that obscured his face. "Two beds."
You nodded obediently. "Of course sir, and for how many nights?"
"One." He answered sternly, angling his head even deeper down.
"Alright," you processed his answer, making note of it. "And will you be requiring meals or would you prefer to dine elsewhere?"
"Here is fine," he replied, digging into a pocket to retrieve a sachel of currency. "Two dinners and two breakfasts. How much?" You quickly added up the total for the stay and four meals and told him what the charge was. To your surprise, he dropped even more in front of you. "I like my privacy, other than meal service, make sure no one disturbs me."
"Of course, sir!" you nodded profusely, swiftly making sure their payment was in the right place, before coming out from behind the counter. "Allow me to escort you to your room!"
-----
Now alone and behind closed doors, the pair of travelers began laying down their luggage, stretching from the relief of no longer having to carry their belongings on their backs. "Ringo," Mizu said suddenly, leaning her sword against a nearby wall as she sat down. "Go out and get us some more provisions, it'll be a while before we get to another village after we leave. Take this," Glancing up at her apprentice, she handed over a list of supplies and the same sachel of gold she'd paid with moments ago. "I'm going to rest while you're out, so try not to disturb me when you get back."
"Yes, master!" The man said seriously, a bit too much so as he saluted her before leaving. The samurai simply rolled her eyes at his unknowingly silly gesture and sighed.
It wasn't long into her quiet time that she was distracted by the softest knock on the wood frame of the door. "Service," your gentle voice called from the other side. Scoffing, Mizu called back, granting you permission to enter.
-----
You smiled when you heard the gentleman call back 'Enter.', sliding the panel away and lifting a tray from the floor before carrying it into the room. "Your meal tonight will be soba, but it won't be ready for a good while. I thought I'd bring you and your companion some refreshments in the meantime. Complementary, of course."
"Do all your guests get treated to free refreshments before dinner?" he asked, suspiciously, sitting cross-legged at a table in the center of the room.
"Well..." you blushed, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear as you fell to your knees beside him. "Not exactly. Your meal will come with tea and sake, but I wanted to show my appreciation for..."
"You wanted to earn the extra money I gave you." he deduced. "I gave you that in exchange for leaving me alone so, admittedly, you aren't doing a very good job of earning it so far. I'd prefer you to respect my wishes than to bother me with special treatment."
Your cheeks burned with embarrassment and rejection. "I-I'm sorry," you sputtered, reclaiming the few things you'd set on the table in preparation to return the tray to the kitchen. "I'll just take this back, didn't mean to offend."
"Wait, you can stay." The mysterious man sighed, bringing his hand up and pressing his palm to the top of his kasa, removing it. Underneath it was silky midnight hair, tied back in a taught bun, with a rogue strand that framed his face. Though, most striking about his appearance, were his glasses. They were round and petite with an onyx frame and amber lenses. Noticing your attention, his eyes darted towards you. "Haven't you ever been told that staring is impolite?"
Shaking your head furiously, cheeks once again aglow, you returned to your current task. "Deepest apologies! I was only observing your glasses, they are-"
You could feel his glare on you intensify even with your gaze away. "They're what?"
"P-Pretty..." you muttered truthfully, instantly regretting using such a feminine adjective to describe something a man wore. "They're a nice color is all..."
The man shifted backward, seemingly surprised by your compliments, and for just a moment, his harsh demeanor faltered a bit. "Well...thank you," he muttered bashfully before clearing his throat and darting back into his shell upon noticing that you were beginning to pour a cup of sake. "Just tea," he corrected sternly. "I don't drink."
You straightened at his comment, pausing for a moment. "Apologies," you nodded, setting the vessel back down on the tray to remind yourself to take it back with you when you leave. "I don't believe I've ever served a man who didn't prefer sake." you mused with a small smile.
"I'm not other men," he answered shortly.
"Yes, you're entirely different..." you sighed with glowing cheeks, pouring his tea. "You're a true and honorable gentleman, I can tell."
For the first time since the pair had come in, the traveler smiled- smirked even. It was a cocky look that sent a shiver down your spine when you glanced up and his found sharp amber eyes staring back. "You're quite forward for a service girl, aren't you?"
Your eyes blew wide at his comment and your cheeks caught fire which spread even to the tips of your ears. "I'm sorry, I don't mean to speak so freely!" Somehow in your anxious haste, you'd lost your grasp on the tea kettle in your hand, and you quickly lunged forward to catch it, luckily saving it before it could spill- or worse, shatter.
Unfortunately, your cheer for victory was incredibly short-lived by the hiss of your guest, who had begun tugging his clothes away from his body. Stream rose from his torso and you went pale. It seemed that, in your rush to catch the kettle, you'd reached over the table and knocked the freshly poured cup of hot tea into the poor man's stomach.
Without a second thought, you immediately crawled over, pulling a handkerchief from the chest of your kosode and began dabbing at his chest and stomach, profusely apologizing all while. You could feel him tense beneath your touch, rigid an no longer wriggling form the discomfort of the steaming liquid coating his skin. To his horror, in your haste, you began to tug at his sleeves, pulling them off his shoulders slightly.
"I'm so very sorry, sir!" you cried, beginning to disrobe him. "I'm so clumsy! I swear I'll make this right, let me just-" you continued, untying his belt, his protests completely lost on you in your panicked state. "I'll take your clothes and launder them, free of charge! A-And I'll get you a full refund on your stay!"
"N-no, please," the man began to tremble, breath caught in his throat as you inched him closer and closer to nudity. "It's fine, all's forgiven, there's no need to-" His hands felt heavy as he tied to pry you away, and by the time he'd gathered the ability to calm himself, you'd already stopped. You were entirely frozen as the fabric of his shirt felt from your hand.
"I-I..." you sputtered, unsure of what to say, or even if to speak at all. You'd rather just stay frozen.
"I-I appreciate the offer to launder my clothes, but please," the traveler gave an exacerbated sigh, "Let me undress myself."
You slowly nodded, never breaking eye contact as he gripped his garment closed and gingerly traced the hem of it and where it fell on his chest. Suddenly, out of his peripheral, he watched you lift something off the floor, setting the object in his lap. Then he realized, you weren't looking at his body. Glancing down, he noticed his glasses, folded neatly and resting in the creased crotch of his baggy pants.
"Get out." he snapped, finally putting himself into gear. "I will leave my clothes outside my door for you to wash. Have them back to me as soon as possible. And yes, you will be refunding my stay." he seethed as you instantly jumped up and hurried out of the room.
-----
"Fuck, fuck, fuck!" Mizu stressed, pacing the room, and tugging at her hair. Her instincts were screaming at her to run, but her clothes were ruined, she'd at least have to wash them in some creek somewhere. But then, what about Ringo? She could leave him, but knowing him, he'd find her and lecture her about the importance of facing your problems instead of running from them. She'd forced you out before she'd had a chance to read your reaction, but then again, she'd never experienced a good one. You were probably on your way to tell someone- or worse, inform authorities on her whereabouts.
Even worse, she could her her chest bindings beginning to soak with tea, creating a terrible moist feeling between her breasts. She'd have to change the bandages, lest her skin begin to chafe. With every odd stacked against her leaving, she decided to stay. You only knew of her eye color, after all. At least you hadn't figured out all of her secrets.
All she had to do was keep her body hidden and charm you into not telling about her eyes, she could do this. You were tripping all over yourself over one snarky comment, surly she could convince you to keep quiet, right?
I hope you guys enjoyed this, there will be a part two coming (hopefully) soon, which I will link in this post when it is finished! Please like, comment, and reblog if you like this, it really helps encourage me to continue, and with this being a fandom for me to write for, it helps a lot to know what y'all interact with most!

The weight of the assassin's body presses down on you, pinning you to the ground as his sword hovers dangerously close to your throat. Every muscle in your arms strains as you hold your gun up, barely keeping the blade away from your neck.
The cold metal of the sword gleams under the dim light, a stark reminder of how close you are to death. His eyes, hidden behind the mask, are unreadable, but you can feel the murderous intent radiating from him.
Sweat drips down your forehead, mixing with the dirt and blood on your face as you grit your teeth. With every ounce of strength, you manage to growl, "You're dead to me."
For a split second, you see it—hesitation. The assassin’s grip falters, his focus wavering. That’s all you need. With a desperate shove, you push him off, the sword sliding away from your neck as you scramble to your feet. Your heart pounds in your chest as adrenaline takes over, and you start running, not daring to look back.
The echoes of your past, the regrets, and the pain are left behind as you sprint away. You know that you’ve bought yourself only a few precious seconds, but at this moment, it’s enough. You leave the assassin behind, along with everything that once bound you.
🥀🥀🥀🥀
The lodge is warm and inviting, nestled comfortably by the edge of a tranquil lake. Large windows allow sunlight to pour in, casting a golden glow across the rustic wooden floors. The living room is cozy, with a soft, earth-toned sofa positioned near a stone fireplace. You push the sofa slightly, adjusting its angle to better face the window, where the view of the lake creates a peaceful backdrop.
As you finish, the sound of the doorbell rings through the house. You straighten up, smoothing a hand over your clothes before heading to the door. When you open it, a smile crosses your face.
Standing there is Lori Grant, your niece. She’s dressed in a green shirt and black pants, her short hair with bangs framing her face beneath thick glasses. A pink backpack is slung over one shoulder, and she’s dragging a suitcase that looks far too big for her small frame.
“Hello, Aunty,” Lori greets you, her voice bright with excitement.
“Where’s your mom?” you ask, glancing past her.
“She just left,” Lori replies, stepping inside and immediately struggling with the weight of her suitcase. She lets out a frustrated “Ugh” as it catches on the doorstep.
You can’t help but chuckle softly. “Let me help you with that.” Gripping the handle, you lift the suitcase easily, though you wonder why a 13-year-old needs so much luggage.
As you bring the suitcase inside, you ask, “Are you hungry? I bought some tofu for you.” Your older sister’s voice echoes in your mind, reminding you of the strict health-conscious diet she keeps Lori on. She’s made a name for herself online with her healthy recipes, and now she’s on a book tour promoting her new cookbook.
Lori looks up at you, her eyes filled with a mix of relief and hope. “Aunty, I’m so excited to be here. I can finally get away from the food my mom makes.”
You laugh, a warm, understanding sound. “Oh, thank goodness. How about fried chicken or lasagna?”
Lori’s face lights up, her hands clasping together as if in prayer. “Why not both?” Her eyes shimmer with anticipation, almost teary at the thought of indulging in something she’s missed.
“Yes!” you reply with a grin, already planning the feast.
🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀
The two of you cook together, filling the kitchen with the mouthwatering aroma of fried chicken and lasagna. The sizzle of the food and the warmth of the stove creates a cozy atmosphere, and before long, you’re both sitting at the table, enjoying the meal.
Lori, barely looking up from her book, eats with a hearty appetite, tearing into the fried chicken and savoring the lasagna.
You glance at her, amused by how engrossed she is in her book. It’s refreshing to see someone her age so absorbed in reading rather than staring at a screen. She’s been glued to that book ever since she arrived.
“Is it a good book?” you ask, taking a sip of your water.
“Yes. The best,” she replies without lifting her eyes from the pages.
You smile and ask, “What’s the book about?”
At that, Lori snaps the novel shut and looks at you with excitement blazing in her eyes, as if she’s been waiting for this moment. “Oh, Aunty, this is the best book! It’s full of adrenaline, mystery, and romance.”
You raise your eyebrows and nod slowly, recognizing the same spark in her that your older sister often has. “Let me guess, a royal romance?”
Lori shakes her head enthusiastically. “No. It’s set in modern day. It’s an enemies-to-lovers story where both are spies from different sides. They have to decide between love and their duty.”
You nod again, your expression thoughtful. “That’s impossible in the real world.”
Lori huffs, rolling her eyes playfully. “That’s why it’s fantasy, Aunty. Geez, you sound just like my mom.” She returns to her book, burying herself in the story again.
You chuckle softly, setting your glass down as you gather your plate and stand up. “Well, usually betrayal happens in those stories.”
Lori looks up, her eyes wide with enthusiasm. “That’s right! There’s a part where the male character betrays the female character.”
Your hand slips, the plate clattering into the sink, but thankfully it doesn’t break.
“Aunty, are you okay?” Lori asks, concern in her voice.
“I’m fine. My hand just slipped,” you say, brushing it off with a smile.
Lori gets up, carrying her plate to the sink. “I’m already done. I’ll help you with the dishes.”
“Thank you,” you reply, appreciating her help.
As you both wash the dishes, you ask her about life at school. Lori tells you all about her friends, her classes, and the things that make her happy.
“Do you have a crush at school?” you ask, a teasing note in your voice.
Lori hesitates, a slight blush coloring her cheeks. “Well… there is one boy. His hair and smile remind me of the male character from the spy book.”
You nearly drop the spatula but manage to catch it just in time. What’s gotten into you today?
“What about you, Aunty?” Lori asks, her tone curious.
“Me?” you respond, a bit caught off guard.
“While living in this lodge, have you ever met a farmer with a six-pack, a cute café owner, or a cool police officer?” Lori asks, her eyes twinkling with mischief.
You gasp, her question catching you by surprise. “Your mom mentioned you’ve become quite the chatterbox.”
“Aunty, your life is a dream. You have it all—except a boyfriend,” Lori says matter-of-factly. She doesn’t fully understand what you do for a living, but she knows from her mom and grandparents that you’ve traveled the world and are now enjoying the fruits of your hard work.
You place your hands on your hips, eyeing her with a mock sternness. “How long have you been staying with Grandma?”
“Three weeks,” Lori answers, wiping a plate dry with a clean cloth.
“That explains it,” you say with a chuckle, ruffling her hair playfully. Your mother has a habit of prying into your love life, and you’ve overheard her sighing over the phone, saying, ‘I’m afraid she’ll die single.’
“But seriously, Aunty, why are you still single?” Lori asks, her eyes wide with innocent curiosity.
You look at her, a sigh escaping your lips. “When you’re older, you’ll understand that life is complicated. There’s no guarantee of a happy ending.”
“Seems like you don’t believe in romance anymore,” she says, her voice soft but probing.
“Lori…” you begin, but her words strike a chord in you. Kids have a way of getting straight to your feelings. You head to the living room, trying to shake off the conversation and turn on the TV. With a sigh, you throw yourself onto the couch.
Lori follows you, still determined to rekindle your belief in romance. But then, something catches her eye. “Aunty, what’s on the second floor?”
“Just a storage room. Full of dust and spiders,” you reply, waving a hand dismissively.
“Can I go up there?” she asks, her enthusiasm barely contained.
“Go ahead,” you say, smiling at her eagerness.
As soon as the words leave your mouth, you hear her running feet thudding up the stairs. You shake your head, chuckling to yourself. What happened to the little girl who was afraid of spiders? Maybe the influence of that action-packed novel, the fantasy world, pulled her in.
🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀
Lori’s eyes lit up with excitement as she explored the second floor, her steps quickening with each new discovery. It felt like a treasure hunt to her, the dusty corners and forgotten items fueling her curiosity.
She opened old boxes, sifted through forgotten knick-knacks, and rummaged through piles of clutter. Her heart raced with the thrill of the search, every creak of the floorboards adding to the sense of adventure.
Then, tucked away near the Christmas decorations, she spotted a plain, unassuming box. It didn’t look like much, but something about it caught her attention. With a soft gasp of anticipation, she opened it and found an old, bulky laptop inside. The device was covered in dust, its once sleek surface now dull and scratched.
“Wow,” Lori whispered, her eyes widening in awe. She lifted the laptop carefully and opened it, running her fingers over the keys. “Clicky, clicky. Love this keyboard,” she said, delighting in the tactile response of the keys beneath her fingers.
Unable to contain her excitement, Lori ran downstairs to find you, clutching the laptop in her arms like a prized possession. “Aunty, look what I found! This is so old, and I love the sound it makes!”
You glanced up and your eyes widened in surprise. “Where did you get that?” you asked, a mix of surprise and concern in your voice.
“Near the Christmas decorations. Can I turn it on?” she asked, her eyes shining with eagerness.
You shook your head, a hint of hesitation creeping into your tone. “It’s been a long time since I turned it on,” you admitted, memories flickering at the edge of your mind. You had pretended the laptop didn’t exist for so long that it had slipped from your thoughts entirely.
“I’ll throw it away,” you said, reaching out to take the laptop from her.
But Lori quickly pulled it back, guarding the laptop protectively. “Even if it’s broken, I could use this for throwback videos,” she argued, her determination evident.
You sighed, seeing the pleading look in her eyes. “Fine. You can have it,” you relented.
“Thank you!” Lori beamed, her smile so bright that any irritation you felt melted away. She hugged the laptop close and dashed off to the guest room, eager to play with her new toy.
Inside her room, Lori’s excitement was palpable. She carefully plugged the charger into the old laptop and pressed the power button, holding her breath in anticipation. But the screen remained dark, the laptop unresponsive.
Her enthusiasm waned slightly, but she didn’t give up. Determined, she searched online for ways to fix old laptops, flipping the device upside down to look for a serial number or brand name. But the markings were too faded to read.
Her hope began to crumble as she realized the laptop might never work again. With a sigh, she set it aside and opened her suitcase, revealing stacks of novels inside. This was the real reason she had wanted to stay with you—to immerse herself in her books without anyone bothering her.
As the night wore on, the clock crept closer to 10 p.m. You yawned, feeling the weight of the day settle in, and turned off the TV. Before heading to bed, you decided to check on Lori. When you peeked into her room, you found her already fast asleep, curled up with a new book clutched in her hands.
You smiled softly, understanding now what was in her suitcase. With a gentle chuckle, you carefully adjusted her sleeping posture and tucked her in, whispering, “Good night.”
As you left, you saw the old black laptop still plugged in, silently charging in the corner. It had been nearly seven years since you last thought about it. You shook your head, a mix of relief and resignation washing over you. It was better if that thing stayed dead, buried in the past where it belonged.
🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀
The next morning, Lori woke up feeling cozy under the blankets. She glanced around, realizing she must have fallen asleep while reading her book again. The comforting silence in the room was a welcome change from the usual yelling of her mother.
This is why staying with you was such a great idea. She turned her attention to the old laptop, remembering she had left it charging all night.
With renewed hope, she quickly jumped out of bed and moved to the laptop. She pressed the power button, but the screen remained stubbornly black. Disappointment settled over her like a heavy fog.
Then, she heard it—the faint hum of the laptop’s fan. Her eyes widened, and a gasp escaped her lips. She clapped her hands together in excitement. “Yes!”
Just then, you called from the kitchen, your voice carrying cheerfully through the house. “Lori! You’ve woken up? I’ve made breakfast.”
“I’m not hungry yet,” Lori replied, her focus still on the laptop, waiting for the screen to light up.
“It’s bacon and eggs,” you added, a hint of a smile in your voice.
The mention of bacon and eggs immediately captured Lori’s attention. It had been ages since she’d had a breakfast like that. “I’m coming!” she called out, her voice filled with enthusiasm.
Without another thought, Lori dashed out of her room, leaving the old laptop to continue its quiet struggle to turn on. Her excitement for breakfast had completely overshadowed her frustration with the laptop, and she hurried to the kitchen, eager for the delicious meal you had prepared.
After breakfast, Lori returned to her room, and her excitement about the old laptop reignited. As she entered, she was stunned to see that the laptop had finally powered up completely.
Her eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at the outdated app icons, which looked dull and unappealing. Despite their lack of charm, something else caught her eye: the email application.
Curiosity piqued, Lori navigated to the email app and discovered a list of old emails. She wondered if the laptop could connect to Wi-Fi. To her delight, it could. She connected it and noticed a new notification. Her heart raced as she clicked on it, only to find a single new email dated five years ago.
“This is like something out of a novel,” Lori whispered to herself, her fingers trembling slightly as she opened the email.
Her gasp was audible when she realized it wasn’t spam or a work email—it was a love letter. She read the email with growing excitement:
Subject: An Apology and a Request
Hi,
I hope this message finds you well. I’ve been carrying a heavy heart and wanted to reach out, even though it’s been a while. I left the organization and have started a new life, but I’ve realized that it won’t feel complete without you.
I’m deeply sorry for everything that happened and for the pain I caused you. I know that I have no right to ask for anything, but if there’s any chance for us to meet and talk, I’d really like that. I’m not expecting anything, but I hope we can find some closure.
Yours,
B.B
Lori’s eyes sparkled with excitement. This was even better than the romance novels she had read. She couldn’t believe her aunt had an ex who had been missing her all this time and had finally reached out after five years.
Feeling a burst of inspiration, Lori unplugged the laptop and raced downstairs to find you. “Aunt! Look! Look! Someone sent you an apology letter!” she exclaimed, her voice filled with excitement.
You were busy preparing to head out to your bee farm, dressed in your suit. The sight of the old laptop suddenly turning on and Lori’s enthusiasm about the email caught you off guard. You knew exactly who had sent it, and it brought a wave of mixed emotions.
With a sigh, you closed the laptop, noticing Lori’s disappointed look. You knelt to her level, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. “Lori, sometimes it’s best to leave the past where it is.”
“But…” she started, her voice trailing off.
You stood up, adjusting your head protection for the farm. “Just enjoy your time here,” you said gently, then headed out of the house.
Lori sighed, her heart heavy with the sadness in your voice. She could sense the pain behind your words and felt that maybe this person was someone special to you. A sudden idea struck her, and she rushed back to her room, placed the old laptop on the table, and began typing a reply.
With her knowledge of romance novels, she crafted a short but heartfelt response:
Subject: Re: An Apology and a Request
Hi B.B,
Thank you for your message. It was a surprise to read your letter after all these years. I appreciate your honesty and the courage it took to reach out. I’m still processing everything, but I’m grateful for your apology.
Maybe one day we can talk, but for now, I hope you find the closure you’re seeking.
Take care,
Y/N
Satisfied with her words, Lori clicked “Send,” feeling accomplished. She hoped her reply would bring peace to her aunt and the sender.
🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀
A few days passed, and Lori grew increasingly nervous. She kept checking the email, but no new notifications appeared, only that eerie computer-generated voice. You noticed her restlessness; she fidgeted with her fingers and paced around the room.
“What’s wrong? Feeling bored?” you asked, trying to lighten the mood. “We could go out for a while, get some fresh air.”
“Eww… no,” Lori replied, wrinkling her nose at the thought of the hot sun and heavy gear. She enjoyed the freedom of staying with you, but she wasn’t enthusiastic about adventures.
“I’d rather stay here, curled up with my book—” Lori was cut off by the familiar, unsettling notification sound.
You flinched at the sound too, a chill creeping down your spine. Lori quickly ran to the laptop, her heart racing with excitement as she saw the red dot notification. She opened the email and skimmed the reply: "I received your message. We need to meet. I’ll find you soon."
“Aunty, look! This person wants to see you. Isn’t it romantic?” Lori said, her excitement palpable.
Romantic my ass, you thought, feeling a cold shiver as you read the email. You abruptly shut the laptop and started packing Lori’s things. Your sudden, frantic movements startled her.
“Change your clothes. Wear something practical and put on running shoes,” you instructed, your voice taut with urgency.
Lori’s eyes widened with concern. “Why? What’s going on?”
“Forget the books. We have fifteen minutes, Lori. Now!” You dashed to your room, grabbing essentials with swift, practiced motions.
Lori, bewildered but obedient, quickly followed your orders. Fifteen minutes later, both of you were ready and in the car. You sped away, your face set in grim determination.
In the passenger seat, Lori clutched the seatbelt tightly, her voice trembling. “Aunt…”
“Lori, did you not hear me? Some things are better left in the past,” you said, your tone cold and firm.
She nodded slowly, her anxiety mounting. “But why?”
Before she could ask more, a deafening explosion rocked the car. “BOOM!” The blast made Lori flinch as she turned to see your house engulfed in flames. Her face pressed against the car window, eyes wide with shock.
“Oh my God. Is that your house?” Lori’s voice was barely a whisper.
You kept your gaze fixed on the road, your face pale and determined. “This is the reality of espionage. The hardest part is when someone tries to kill you.”
Lori gasped, realization dawning on her. “You’re a real spy!”
You didn’t answer, but the silence was deafening—a resounding confirmation.
“And the person who sent the email is another spy!” she exclaimed.
“Yeah. But unlike the novels, we’re not looking to fall in love. We’re trying to kill each other.” Your words sent a shiver down her spine, the gravity of the situation settling in with chilling clarity.
🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀
At the gas station, you and Lori were picking up essential supplies. Your disguise—a dark hat, sunglasses, and a coat pulled tight—wasn't exactly subtle. But Lori's eyes sparkled with excitement.
“This is so cool!” she exclaimed, her voice brimming with admiration.
“It’s not,” you muttered, your voice strained as you tried to mask your growing unease. The thrill of the moment had been replaced by a harsh reality. “I’m taking you to your mom.”
Lori’s enthusiasm faltered as she noticed the tension in your body. “But Aunt… why are you running away if this person wants to see you?”
You sighed heavily. “Because—”
Your words trailed off as a shiver ran down your spine. You felt eyes on you and slowly turned to face the source of your unease. There he was, striding towards you with a purpose.
The man stood tall and lean, his dark hair tousled and his leather jacket catching the dim light of the gas station. His face was striking—handsome in a rugged, intense way. His presence radiated strength and determination.
“Bucky,” you whispered, your voice barely audible.
Bucky didn’t break stride or acknowledge you. His pace quickened, and your instincts kicked in. You reached for your gun, but before you could draw it, a loud BANG! shattered the tense silence.
“Kyaaa!!!” The sound of the gunshot set off a wave of screams from everyone inside the store, including Lori. The chaos erupted around you, but you and Bucky remained focused.
You threw yourself in front of Lori, protecting her with your body. Bucky did the same, his gaze locked on the threats.
“You—” you started, trying to catch your breath.
“We don’t have much time,” Bucky cut you off, his voice a low growl. He grabbed your arm, pulling you up, and snatched his own gun. Without another word, he started firing, taking out the shooters one by one.
You joined him in the fray, your movements sharp and efficient. Bullets flew and bodies hit the floor. Bucky’s sharp eyes and quick reflexes contrasted with your precise, practiced shots.
“Your aim’s getting rusty,” Bucky grunted as he took down another opponent.
“Shut up,” you retorted, focusing on the task at hand.
In no time, the immediate threat was neutralized. You both made a break for your car, adrenaline surging. Bucky took the driver’s seat, his expression grim and focused.
“Wait…” you began, but Bucky cut you off.
“Just put on your seatbelt first,” he said tersely, glancing at you with an intensity that brooked no argument.
You complied, snapping the seatbelt into place as Bucky threw the car into gear. The ride was tense, an awkward silence hanging between you and Bucky. Lori, however, was brimming with curiosity.
She tugged at Bucky’s leather jacket, causing him to glance at her. The way she looked at him, her eyes wide with awe, reminded you of how she had always romanticized the world.
“Are you the one who sent that email to my aunt?” Lori asked, her voice tinged with a mix of excitement and expectation.
Bucky’s eyes widened slightly, but he didn’t respond, turning his attention back to the road.
Lori turned to you, her eyes glowing with revelation. “I get it. Both of you were spies! But you couldn’t be together because of your jobs! A forbidden love! This is so romantic!”
"!!!!!"
Your jaw dropped, and Bucky’s expression shifted to one of utter disbelief. The two of you exchanged a stunned look, unsure whether to laugh or feel embarrassed by Lori’s innocent but surprisingly accurate guess.
The air in the car seemed to crackle with the weight of her words, as the reality of your intertwined past and present hung in the balance.

NRC And RSA
(What if Yuu went to Royal Sword Academy for a Exchange/Transfer student program?)
-
Yuu sat on the plush bed, the private room given to them was rather luxurious than the room they shared in Ramshackle. Little bits of belongings still sat in their luggage, a few trinkets (Y/N) had been packed to remind Yuu of NRC during their stay.
The magicless student smiles at the thought of their dorm and friends. Sighing as they eye the special uniform the RSA students had provided them.
While the rather, “princely” students were rather kind in their greetings, Yuu still didn’t feel all too comfortable. The quiet sounds of the ocean clear their thoughts as they get up from the bed. Peaking outside from the satin curtains, the small waves crashing along the sandy shore.
After finding out that Yuu would be going to the school alone, Headmaster Crowely graciously offered Yuu a new phone. While you kept the old one.
“To keep in touch during the trip!” Yuu heard the Headmage state, smiling too sweetly, clearly hiding his true intentions.
Picking up their phone, Yuu skims through the messages you had sent as soon as they left.
Pictures of Grim sleeping in class, pictures of you and Grim sitting next to the first-years at lunch. Then a photo of you, unaware, talking with a nervous student as figures zoom into the scene. Too blurry to make out the familiar uniforms on their persons.
“Grim probably took that photo…” Yuu laughs. Before a knock is heard on the door.
Yuu heads over, not before taking a small pick of the ocean.
Opening it up, preppy voices cheer loudly. “WELCOME TO ROYAL SWORD ACADEMY! YUU!”
-
“I miss Yuu…” You bemoan, lightly banging your hands on your face. Groaning in annoyance as Ace side eyes you. “(Y/N), Yuu’s fine. Probably annoyed with all those high-horse RSA students though.” Deuce makes a small sound of agreement.
Grim munches on his tuna melt, a bit quiet… Which was never a good sign.
-
Yuu sat with Chenya and Neige, a few other students seated with the as well during lunch. The NRC picks at the dishes served as they listen to the small discussions going about. Occasionally giving a small response when a question was asked to them personally.
“Hmm.. Yuu~! I’m curious about something, if you don’t mind me asking..~” Chehnya smiles, eyes bright like a curious cat.
“Yes?”
“How’s (Y/N) doing? I haven’t seen’em in a bit, so I wanted to know.~” Chenya purrs out, laying a lazy hand on Yuu shoulder. Neige, overhearing, beams. White as snow skin becoming a soft pink as they lean in as well. “Oh yes! How are they? I haven’t seen them much since the masquerade event at Noble Bell College.”
The actors red as rose lips turn into a frown, “My schedule has been so packed I haven’t had time to see them around town..” The boy wilts at the thought of missing his chance to see you as Snick offers him a sympathetic pat on the back.
Yuu hears more chatter from a few other students popping in to add their own statements about (Y/N).
Rielle, Yuu recalled him from somewhere… Had spoken up. “I’ve seen them around the beach a few times!”
“Really?”
“Uh-huh!”
Yuu blinks, the conversation becoming bigger than expected. But, they grin just like their fellow NRC friends.
“Well, (Y/N) is good. I mean, they are Dorm Head of our Dorm, along with meetings with the other Dorm Leaders… As VICE Leader, we’re with each other often.” Yuu smiles, shrugging. A certain glint in their eye.
Neige's features become more flustered as he tries to ask another question. Before being interrupted by Yuu’s phone ringing.
-
“GRIM! GIVE IT BACK!”
“No! I wanna’ send Yuu photos of my tuna can tower!”
“Grim!” You try to grab the phone back as Jack follows after, but Grim was surprisingly quicker! Epel manages to corner the fur-ball, “Oi! Ya’cat! Give it up!”
“Epels accent is out! He’s pissed!”
Ortho readies his laser cannon, trying to get the perfect aim. "Grim, stand still please!" Grim shouts to as he tries to figure out away to avoid capture.
“Grim?”
“Yuu!”
“YUU!?”
The first-years shout all together, happy to hear the student.
Sebek grabs Grim by the scruff of his collar, handing him over to you as everyone gathers by the lounge area. Discussing about their day as Yuu talks about their own, “I gotta go guys.. I’ll see you in a couple days!”
“Give’em hell Yuu!”
“Good luck Yuu!”
“See you soon!”
Hanging up the call, Yuu returns back to the lunch table, a satisfied expression on their face. Maybe even a bit sentimental if you looked close enough...

There is a horn. It is nothing special, made from the tusk of some beast that Aredhel barely even recalls felling.
There had been many such beasts on The Ice after all.
The horn had found its way into her luggage and over so many restless nights watching over little Idril she had made it.
It does not compare to those that The Hunt had used in Aman, bound as it is with scant strips of leather and metalwork repurposed from a necklace that she could not wear on The Ice.
But it is hers. And it is precious, in a strange way.
She does not take it when she leaves her brother’s city. It remains, untouched, in her rooms.
It watches as she slowly fades from a poison bestowed by her husband.
The horn is given to her son, yet he has no use for it. A love of hunting and the great outdoors was not anything she passed on to her only child.
It is gifted to another, to a child borne of his cousin, a more precious gift than perhaps his cousin realises.
(One of the few pieces he has of his mother. A wish and a warning and an apology all at once.)
Somehow it survives the Fall. Somehow it ends up in Sirion.
It does not burn in the destruction. Nor is it taken by the Sons of Feanor as they take their hostages.
It lies, abandoned on the floor, until the King comes (too late) to the aid of the city.
There are too few survivors, but they can ill afford to leave any supplies behind. And besides, Gil-Galad can recall his cousin placing a strange solemn honour upon the hunting horn.
It sits, unused, until the Sons of Earendil are returned to their king, whereupon it, aged and yet bearing a presence is returned to them.
There is little argument over which of them gets that piece of their father when it is time for them to separate. The elder twin takes it, as he took their foster father’s sword. The younger is content with a silver harp and the book of their mother’s herblore.
Elros takes it with him. A symbol of his House, and honour for his heir to bear.
Down it goes, down down down the generations until there is little but a drop of Numenorian blood left in its bearer.
It crosses oceans and continents and Ages of the World, survives battles and sieges and the falls of Great Cities and Great Kings until all that is left is a Steward upon his throne sending a son to find answers for a dream.
Finally, on the shores of a river, overlooked by statues of the Kings of Old, the horn is blown for the last time.
It is blown to summon aid, to draw attention, to allow those it’s bearer would protect the chance to escape.
It takes three arrows to take down the horn’s bearer, and the Falls of Rauros to finally grant the horn rest.
The Horn of Aredhel Maeglin Earendil Elros Numenor Gondor is no more.

THERE WERE SIRENS IN THE BEAT OF YOUR HEART
dabi x reader x hawks
after running away and living a life of crime with touya, you’re approached by your former flame hawks. you’re faced with the decision to save the world, or the love of your life.
part 1/4
for! @bbluefllame @whenanafallsinlove @satirediary
inspired by getaway car, some ciwyw if you squint
on a hot summer night, walking home to your apartment, you wrote off takami keigo in your head as a pompous asshole. the one who still made sure you got home safe but insisted it was just ‘him being a hero’ and nothing more.
it was one of those nights that you almost wished something would happened. you were beyond exhausted, the screaming match you had with your ex boyfriend taking your everything. it was one of those breakups that just seemed to happen. no foreshadowing, no signs, and no warning. one day, he loved you, and couldn’t shut up about marriage, and the next he packed your things for you.
“you need more than me.” he insisted, repeating it like that was somehow going to stop your tears. he was leaning back against the counter, looking around his apartment. he seemed to savour the clean and organized look, knowing that in just a few days it would look like a disaster without you there.
“i don’t get it, kei.” you choke back a sob, gathering your things already packed into suitcases. “you let me choose a ring last week.”
just seeing you cry makes him want to take it all back, scarlet red feathers drooping by his side. he has no excuse. he loves you, but has to let you go. he’s exhausted, and can’t give you what you need.
if he didn’t know any better he’d marry you anyway. but he’s seen how easy it is to be trapped behind the ring in his own childhood.
he wants to set you free, free from him and everything he can’t give you. but the coward in every men keeps him from admitting that. so instead, he sighs, choking back tears and insisting he knows whats best for you.
“fine. bye.” you finally give up, shedding your armour and sword that fought so hard to keep your relationship afloat. as you dragged your luggage to the door, you paused.
say don’t go. please.
and he’s silent as you leave.
the night you left hawks, was also the day you met touya.
✧.* ⋆.˚ ☾ .⭒˚ ✧.* ✧.* ⋆.˚ ☾ .⭒˚ ✧.* ✧.* ⋆.˚ ☾ .⭒˚ ✧.* ✧.* ⋆.˚
the walk was long. your, dazed heartbroken state was almost enough to let you ignore the heaving, bleeding man in the alleyway. almost.
hesitantly, you stepped into the dark corridor, looking at the boy who was half-awake. there was some kind of blade lodged into his hip bone. based on his appearance, you’d assume he had difficulty feeling pain anyway. but its hard not to notice when a large blade is trying to swap places with your blood.
you want to turn around. maybe call the police. but you relent, almost with a groan.
“uhm… are you okay?”
blue eyes flicker up to you, with a hint of annoyance.
“i’m great, sweetheart.” he heaves, wiping the blood from his chin. you probably should turn back, but you step closer.
“you’re bleeding..” you point out.
he looks down at the blood staining his jacket, and almost laughs. “wow, really? thanks doc.”
what a dick. you think to yourself with a sigh as you sling his arm over your shoulder. he makes a noise that almost sounds like a protest, but a man who plays with fire is a man who doesn’t fear death.
so you take him back to your apartment, sitting him down on the bathroom floor with a thud. he thinks to himself that he’ll wait till your distracted, and jump out the window. but the major blood loss wasn’t helping his escape efforts.
its at this point that you truly begin to freak out. you, who has only a vague idea of what needs to be done, has a stranger bleeding out on your washroom floor.
and your fiance-to-be dumped you. what a night.
you whine to yourself, dropping onto your knees and gripping the knife. you look at him with tear filled eyes, and he looks right back at you. slowly, you remove the knife by whats probably a centimetre.
and you both yell out in pain.
“fuck, i’m sorry, i-‘’ you almost cry, not knowing what the hell you got yourself into. you expect him to laugh, or to tell you off, and in a way he does. he throws his head back, trying to stay awake while you grip the knife thats causing him this turmoil.
“..you can do it. c’mon.” he bites hit burnt bottom lip, urging you to continue. you push through, wincing at his strangled groans as you slowly extract the knife from his side.
“i’m sorry. i’m sorry.” you whisper, about halfway done. his breathing is ragged, but his eyes remain locked onto you.
someone he doesn’t know. someone who doesn’t know him. who’s maybe seen him on the news, for all his atrocities, is trying to save his life.
although you’re doing a shitty job at it.
you’re almost done when he relents. he places his scared, stapled hand over yours. he firmly holds your hand over the knife, and swiftly removes it.
you both sigh in relief, though theres a bigger problem now.
you waste no time, getting your sewing kit from underneath the sink and threading the hole (despite your anxiety ridden state. he could almost applaud.)
this part hurts less, as you carefully stitch his skin back together. he may still be bleeding internally, and he may still need to receive further attention. but for now, you’re taking care of him.
with one final pass of the needle, he’s fixed. you drop your hands to the floor with a huff, while his hazy turquoise eyes look at you with a look you can’t quite decipher.
so there you sat, in a pool of blood, with a stranger who’s life you just saved right after leaving your ex-fiance.
that was the night you met touya todoroki.
✧.* ⋆.˚ ☾ .⭒˚ ✧.* ✧.* ⋆.˚ ☾ .⭒˚ ✧.* ✧.* ⋆.˚ ☾ .⭒˚ ✧.* ✧.* ⋆.˚
the world knew dabi. they knew the bloodthirsty arsonist, who’s skin was held together by metal and whose heart was frozen over like an eternal winter. they knew the man who could cremate you alive, who’s blue flames were a sign of immediate danger.
you, however, had the privilege of knowing (and subsequently loving) touya.
touya loved autumn. he loved the crunchy leaves and the brisk air that contrasted with his quirk. he loved little action figures, of all the heroes he hoped to one day be like. he loved soba. he loved his mom. he loved his siblings.
key word: loved.
he didn’t lose that love per say, but if it was still there, it was buried deep between promises of vengeance and salvation.
most of all, touya loves you.
he’s never the type to say it out loud. but he will show you.
he shows it when he breaks into the florist you talk so much about and hands you a crude bouquet of roses, saying he saw it on tv somewhere. he shows it in his careful care to hide your existence away from the league and away from the media, knowing he could very well be what endangers you the most. he shows it when fixes the leak you didn’t even know was there, when he replaces your empty shampoo bottles, when he makes you coffee (though its terrible, he never gets the milk and cream right) and when he stares at the stab-scar you stitched up for him.
touya shows you that he loves you when he reminds you, once again, that you don’t need to save him.
but.
“..will you run away with me?”
you smile.
“yes.”
and for once in the world, it seems like you and touya found the best of all crimes. the single strike of a match blew your mind. you went from dating heroes who broke your heart, to villains who love you like you’re brand new.
the tiniest part of you, however, still thinks about keigo. your keigo. but you’re able to push that down, all until that night came.
it was the night before you agreed to make your great escape with touya. it would be perfect. you’d pack the car and drive off to some city you couldn’t pronounce. you’d live on, maybe rob a store or two just for the fun of it. you’d be happy because its him.
your daydreaming is interrupted by your lack of sleep.
you’re staring out the balcony, just admiring the moon while touya’s arm was lazily draped around you. he’s a surprisingly heavy sleeper, despite his lack of trust and loved ones.
he felt a wave of peace and contentment wash over him as he slept beside you, your body pressed against his in a tangle of limbs and sheets. he’s constantly pulling you closer in his sleep, his arms encircling you like he’s protecting you. for the first time in his life, he felt completely safe. love is what kept him safe.
but you’re restless, and you need air. so you carefully untangle yourself from his arm, and quietly head out to the balcony.
the cool, night air serenaded you in a way that only isolation would understand. you’re worried about this. worried about touya.
was this really the solution? is he still a villain even after loving you?
do you care?
would keigo get it?
well, maybe he would, considering he’s standing next to you, perched on the balcony railing.
you stifle a curse at his sudden appearance, careful not to wake your sleeping boyfriend inside. he places a gloved finger to his lips, signalling for you to be quiet.
you honestly should scream. but its like he still has that hold on you.
“holy shit. what are you doing here!?”’ you whisper-yell at him, having half a mind to push his winged ass off the railing. he holds his hands up in surrender.
“just checking on you, babe.” he says, that familiar nickname pissing you off and making your heart throb all at once. you grit your teeth.
“relax, i’m not here to arrest you or anything.” he explains, stepping down from the railing and onto the balcony. “i just wanna talk.”
you cross your arms, mentally slapping yourself for even thinking about going outside onto this balcony ever again.
“fine. spill it.” you hiss.
keigo leans against the balcony railing, his demeanor casual yet cautious as he speaks to you.
“you know, I never expected you'd end up with dabi. I always thought you had better taste." theres almost a playful smirk on his face, and you’re not sure if its hate or hatred-filled-unresolved-feelings that makes you want to smack him.
so you remind him of the obvious. “you broke up with me, kei.”
he lets out a small sigh, his smirk satisfyingly faltering at the reminder. “i… i know babe. i won’t forget it… but i still care about you.”
you click your tongue in frustration, placing both your hands on the railing and looking out at the stars.
“then why did you end things the way you did? one second you love me and want to marry me, the next you have all your things packed up.”
you almost tear up, recounting the moments you went from your first kiss, to marriage, to walking out of his apartment alone. you two were starry eyed kids, embroidering the memories of each other onto your hearts.
he almost wants to cry too.
keigo’s expression turns remorseful, his eyes avoiding yours like the coward in every man does.
"i don't know. i just... realized that i couldn't give you what you needed." he admits like confessing to a crime, his voice heavy with guilt.
“at the time.. i thought it would be better to let you go, let you find someone who could give you everything you deserved. i didn’t wanna cage you. i wanted you to be free, birdie.”
you sigh, and consider your ex-lovers words. maybe he was right. but this topic was becoming too painful for you to bare.
“but thats not why you’re here, is it?” you whisper.
he sighs again, realizing he’s already gotten distracted. he shakes his head.
keigo takes a deep breath, steeling himself as he prepares to say the words he knew he has to say.
"i’m here to ask you to bring dabi in." *he states, his voice steady and firm, despite the hint of regret in his eyes. he knows how much this’ll hurt you, and he hates it.
you blink.
“…what?”
keigo reaches out, gently placing a hand on your shoulder as if trying to provide you with comfort or even just reassurance.
"i know you care about him- hell, you may even love him, but you have to see that what he’s doing is wrong. he needs to face the consequences of his actions."
and there it is. theres keigo being a hero again. and its breaking your heart in the worst possible way.
you look down, your lip beginning to tremble.
fact: touya was a criminal.
fact: touya was a murderer.
fact: you love him.
you knew it was wrong, hearing sirens and his heartbeat all the same. you had to have known it would catch up to you eventually.
but you thought maybe, you could drive away from all of it. wishful thinking.
keigo notices this turmoil, and rubs his hand up and down your back. he may have lost you, but he hasn’t lost how much he cares for you. he hates seeing you like this.
“i love him.” you whisper, voice cracking as that familiar salt streams down your face.
he nods, pushing down his jealousy in order to put you first. his heart aches as you confess your love for the criminal, mostly because he wondered if some of that love could still be for him.
“i know you do, babe.” he starts. “but love alone can't justify or excuse his actions. nothing can.”
you nod, forcing yourself to come to terms with it. he pulls you into a hug, and you don’t fight him. his embrace is familiar, something you find yourself wanting to run to more and more. he places a kiss to your forehead, letting his lips sit there while he whispers to you that its okay. (its not.)
“if love could save people, we’d live forever.” he says, stroking your hair. you agree with him, granting him a small nod.
he steels himself once more, knowing he has to get you to say yes. but before he can press further, you ask:
“…how many people are gonna die?”
keigo pausesfor a moment, his expression grave as he considers your question. he didn't want to give you a number, a tangible representation of the destruction touya could cause, but he knew he owed you honesty.
"hundreds, probably. maybe thousands, with the way his power works. and that's just counting the civilian casualties. the list of Pro Heroes he could potentially take down... it's not a pretty picture." he confesses, knowing he owes you the truth and nothing less.
still pressed against his chest, your eyes wander back to touya, peacefully asleep on the bed. if you could capture the rare moment tranquility touya was feeling right now, you would. its something he rarely ever felt, and something you wished you could grant him a lifetime of.
“its his life or the life of thousands.” you whisper, not even daring to say it louder.
keigo hates that its come to this. he feels like a failure, to you and to touya, that he was driven to this point of villainy. but he can’t undo whats been done.
his amber eyes watch you as your gaze flickers back to where touya sleep. his heart breaks at the conflict on your face. he continues to hold you close, though he knows these words will likely push you away further.
"you can't choose him, babe… the lives of thousands... the fate of the whole city... that's more important than what you feel for one person. you know that. you have to know that.”
more tears fall as keigo pulls back slightly, cupping your face and calling your attention to him. but you don’t want to listen, instead opting to pull away. your hand lands on the balcony door, back to your hotel room.
but right before, you turn around, and silently give keigo a nod.
he remains silent, but his eyes understand as he takes off into the night.
the pain that swells in your heart increases as you lay back down next to touya. he unconsciously wraps his arm around you, pulling your body closer to his as he continues to sleep. even in his deep slumber, his instincts seem to sense that something is bothering you, as though his body naturally seeks to comfort you.
“i love you.” you whisper, choking back your sob as you screw your eyes shut. he’s is still fast asleep, his breathing slow and steady, but you can feel his grip tighten slightly around you as if he heard your whispered confession. a shy hint of a smile graces his lips, even in his unconscious state.
it wasn’t such a mystery, and neither of you could pretend it was. nothing good starts in a getaway like this.

There was another world of Teyvat that exist.
Where gods and visions were no longer needed, where everything become modern and everyone lives peacefully.
Where the dead lived and had a happy life.
Where what it felt like everyone live in the same continent of Teyvat.
Catalyst, swords, claymores, and bows no longer wield a purpose in this part of Teyvat—weapons no longer needed as it was replaced by advance weapons. Only meant to be use if you’re in position to use them.
In this side of Teyvat, you no longer need to fear the heavenly principles—fear the gods nor worship them or think of the visions.
Even the archons saw how Teyvat change over the course of hundreds of years, now that their people don’t need gods nor visions no more. They now live among human society and pretended that they aren’t archons—but one of them.
Maybe the this Teyvat you live in could differ than the old “Teyvat” that the elders use to tell?

The light of the sun illuminates to your room, how your alarm goes off to have your eyes flutter open and start your day anew. A yell was heard from downstairs kitchen, “y/n! Get up, hon.” The voice called.
You sat up, eyes half-lidded and still heavy. You stretched out your stiff muscles as a knock was heard from your door then your mother; still in a cooking apron stood from your door frame.
“Get up, dear.” Mother spoke as she knock on your door again, a little louder this time so you could hear. You can only reply with a tired groan giving your mother a thumbs up and rubbing your eyes gently.
“Pack your things, ok?” she reminded you, “and breakfast is ready, sweetheart. Come down and eat, all right?” she added before leaving your room and shutting your door.
Pacing out and blankly staring at the wall in front of you, you hop out of bed and start your day with showering first then packing your clothes for college. And maybe add some other things that can keep you entertained.
Art major, that’s right. You are an art student. The one who has poor posture every time you draw either traditionally on paper or in your digital tablet—that probably cost you more fortune.
You love to draw ever since you were little, probably at around the age of 5 or 6—well, everybody goes through that phrase right? Then when they came to age; they find new passion that suits them more and never touch paper and pencils again.
Well, that’s what you think anyways.
It doesn’t surprise your parents that you took art classes and art school in middle school, then now? Art major in the most well known college around Teyvat. It would take a while to get there even by car.
After getting done, your steps were light as you got down stairs and had your luggage’s ready. Your mom smiled as the two of you exchange a kiss on the cheek as a way to greet your mornings, “Morning, mom.” You greeted and sat down on a stool bar chair, resting both of your elbows in to the table while mom cooks your favorite breakfast.
There’s still time before mom drives you to college, “have you packed your necessaries, dear?” mom asked, you replied, your voice sounded like a murmur as you spoke. “yeah, I packed almost everything, mom.” You chuckle.
“alright then, sweetheart.” She sweetly smiled, turned off the stove—took a plate then happy place it down in front of you, what did mom cooked? The usual. Omelet with rice and French toast with jam. Yummy.
As you eat, mom hang her cooking apron at the fridge handle and let down her hair as she tidy up her attire. She breaks the silence as you eat, “So I heard that your…” she raised an eyebrow with a grin planted in her face, you rolled your eyes playfully in response. “Yeah, yeah. He’ll be there, alright.” You giggled and munch on your French toast with jam feeling.
“Do you know that the eldest son of the Raiden will be there to attend classes too?” Mom asked, fixing her blouse and skirt. Looks like she’s getting ready to get to work too.
The Raiden’s, that’s a name that you haven’t heard—no, even not familiar to you. All you hear, either in school or friend groups that the Raiden’s are insanely rich and owns a music industry. Hell, even the eldest son has a band that you… Well, surprisingly follow their band socials and listen to their music; 6reeze.
Neat band name, even though they all look like emo kids that hasn’t surpass their emo phase.
You were intrigued, “the eldest son, attending the same college as mine?” you ask to be sure, mom nods and turn around to have you look at her work attire.
“Yeah, and dear. How do I look?” She asked and gave a little twirl to showcase her proud look and attire, you smiled then finished your breakfast as you gave mom a double thumbs up. “You look great, mom.”
The two smiled as she gestures you to get up whilst she get her car keys, her jacket in hand and took your luggage’s too to have them inside the car. You followed along, chatted as the both of you got inside the car and continued sharing stories, your future even, then mom telling you how proud she is to you and how proud dad will be if he saw you, his baby girl all grown up and pursuing her dream.
He would’ve love seeing you stand in that stage, give your speech and throw your graduation hat in the air.

“So…” mom starts, breaking the eerie silence throughout the ride as trees passes by your window seat, mom continued. “The raiden boy, the one that will be attending the same college as you.”
“What about him, mom?” you manage to mutter with a curious tone, tilting your head to your side as you listen to your moms words. “I heard he has… uhm…” she cleared her throat before continuing, “a rather, unique personality.” There was a pause in her sentence, unsure what she just meant by that.
“He can be, you know.”
“A jerk? I know mom, he has an ego and I don’t know why the internet love him about his bitch behavior.”
“y/n!” Mom called your name with a warning tone, “mind your language, young missy!” she pinch your side while looking out for the road. “owie!” you could only yelp and purse your lips to her direction, “I mean. It’s true that he has an ego and attitude.” You murmur under your breath.
“Don’t call him a bitch.” Mom shook her head, “but he is.” You groan, “y/n!”
“Fine, fine,” you laughed as mom continues to pinch and tickle your side, “I won’t call him a bitch, please mom! Eyes on the road!” you laughed as she just let out a sigh and smiled at you. You knew she couldn’t keep herself angry with you, you’re her angel. An angel that has a little wild and dark side, your tongue that has no remorse when it comes to speaking your mind. Yeah, an angel.
“I love you.” You confess and gave her your best puppy eyes that you know she could not resist. Mom let out a hum of an “aww” as the end of her lips tug a wide and wholesome smile, “I love you too, my baby boo.”
“Ew, what’s with that pet name.” you tease and giggle again, “I’m not going to buy you Starbucks.” Mom remarked as you plead for her forgiveness the whole ride.
The whole ride was filled with laughter and a strong bond between mother and daughter. You were glad that you have her as your mom, and your mom was glad that she has a daughter like you.

It was huge, when I tell you huge. Huge, like really, really huge.
No wonder this college was well-known to over Teyvat. From what you heard from a friend—who also heard it from a friend. That not only it has a classy and massive inside, it also has a garden! Truly perfect to find yourself lost in endless inspiration, where you are surrounded with beautiful views.
They also give high class education, expect teachers be tight and extra strict. But overall! It was perfect! So perfect that you felt intimidated, just by the other looks of student, they all look… Expensively stylist and beautiful. Probably get themselves Starbucks like it’s in their daily lives.
Your mom assist your luggage’s as you are busy admiring how lovely and massive your college school is, “You already love it here, dear?” Mom let out a chuckle as she got a glimpse of your mouth agape and thinking you just saw the most jaw-dropping scene you have ever seen.
“The school view is great, honey, but do you mind helping your dear mommy?”
You turn around to face her, snap yourself back to Teyvat and hum a chuckle, “sorry, mom.” You apologize and lower your head to the ground, “I’d be lost in my own mind too if I’m attending to this kind of school too.” Mom admitted with a laugh as she took out one more luggage, “Let’s go.” She gestured as the both of you walk and talk then take flyers that’s been handing out.
You got in your dorm room, it was alright. Plain white walls and bed, luckily the school provides each students their own desk study in their own dorm room. “oh look! You got the first dip. Pick your bed, hun.” Mom spoke as she neatly tuck your luggage’s to the side as you inspect the beds and desk first.
“I’ll have the bed on the left.” You mutter and flop down, “set your things up before laying around, hm?” She clicked her tongue as she sat beside you, “I know you felt a little bit intimidated by the environment of the school and students here. But whenever you need me, I’m free to call and hun.” She pauses and brush your hair that’s been covering your face, “you’ll do great, I know it!” she encourages you and stood up from your bed.
You sat up with a smile, “I know, mom,” you hum, “thank you.” You smile as you stand up too to hug her goodbye, exchanging a kiss on the cheek before she bid farewell.
Now that she left, how about unpacking your things first and get some rest for the day? You too, are curious who’s going to be your roommate for today.

Everyone was busy in campus, playing and welcoming new students as they hand out flyers to promote their program nor club.
A smile in all of their faces, playful chattering in the background—everywhere you walk nor set sight to. There will be people either playing, giving out flyers and chattering.
And of course, this was suffocating for him.
Most of the crowd went silent as the boys steps out from their car, their instrument on their back as the boy with a medium-length dark green forest colored hair with a teal undertones. What’s more eye catchy is his golden irises with avian pupils, and a red eyeshadow. He also has a diamond marking on his forehead and he only held a drumstick rather than a big case of the instrument like the others.
He was the first one to step out, and he goes by the name; Xiao. His green tattoo almost visible because of the length of his sleeve, numerous fans adored his cold demeanor. As if it’s giving, cold prince vibes.
Murmur filled the air, quiet squeals and excited whispers were heard.
“Who are they again? 6reeze?”
“Holy moly, good archon! Aren’t they handsome?”
“I want Xiao’s autograph.”
“The main vocal is so pretty!”
Praises and compliments were in the air, all eyes on them as flashes of photographs were takes and only got it to stop the paparazzi’s to picture the boys is to block their view.
Venti, the main vocalist and main star attraction of the band.
Xiao, the drummer and fans favorite “cold prince.”
Kazuha, the bass guitarist. The calm and collected guy, who sets everyone’s needs and helps the groups rehearsals.
Aether, who plays the electric keyboard—he was also the main attraction of the band because of his gold long-braided hair. Just like Kazuha, he puts everyone’s needs and the “leader” of the group.
Heizou, the guitarist or ‘rhythm guitarist’ who provides the rhythmic pulse along the bass and drum. He’s playful and has a knack on charming his fans, he was described that he’s sweet and has a soothing voice.
And lastly, we have him.
Scaramouche, or Scara for short. The eldest son of the Raidens—wealthy, cunning, blunt, cocky, prideful, and the lead electric guitarist of the band. There was an… issue about his behavior a few years back, the issue died down and well. His mistakes were now covered up.
The six walk each by their side and chatted as some fans yelp and tried to get their attention, their bodyguards were preventing them from crashing themselves to either of the idols.
“God, this school is so suffocating.” The boy with dark purple hair complained, picking his ear to drown the noise of the fans.
“For you it is, but for all I know—we’ve got ourselves some club room reserved, we could rehearse there every after classes.” Venti spoke with enthusiasm, waving at the fans as they walk pass them.
“Aren’t they lovely?” Kazuha smiled, giving a fan an autograph as he spoke to the group with the same calm and soothing voice.
“lovely? More like a nuisance.” Scara rolled his eyes, annoyed by the same squeals and cheer whenever fans sees them—even if they just breath they’ll automatically say something idiotic, which he finds entertaining and laughable.
“Scara, watch that attitude. You’ll cause an issue again.” Aether warned and sigh, handing the paper and pen to the fan after giving his autograph to them. The boy with dark purple hair only rolled his eyes and click his tongue.
“How about we get our dorm room and key,” Xiao suggested, his voice hoarse and husky but when he speaks—it was flat and lacks emotion. Heizou second his suggestion.
They got their dorm number and keys.
“Me and Heizou are in a same room.” Kazuha shared and pocket his key, “hell, yeah..!” said Heizou, requesting a light high-five with Kazuha.
Aether nodded and check his list, “Ok, so. I’m with my sister, Heizou with Kazuha. Venti with Xiao…” he flips the paper back ‘n forth, “that leaves…” all eyes were on him.
“Scara. Separate room with someone.” Aether mutter low, but still heard, the dark purple haired boy scoff and groan.
“Of course,” he rolled his eyes, “I’m paired with a stranger. Great.” His tone filled with sarcasm and irritation, “so uhm. Whoever they are, please be nice to them? Have some remorse and don’t cause a scene like last time.” Aether let out a sigh with his parted lips, still letting out a small faint smile and tap his lead guitarists shoulder.
“whatever.”
“So, let’s all go to our room and call it a day? We still have packing to do.” Kazuha propose, “Me and Kazuha will go first.” Followed by Heizou as he tug the bassist away.
Aether wave them goodbye, Xiao nodded at them and left with Venti—which leaves him and Scara. The boy with golden braids cross his arms and let out a long sigh, “be good, ok?” he said and gave him direction on where his dorm is before leaving him last.
As he walk through the hallway, less crowds and few people murmuring; which he can clearly hear. He puts his earphones on, muffling the voices of the outside world as he make his way to the staircase. Getting lost in his own world, his earphone playing their band music. Something soothing and relaxing rather than the usual metal music they make.
Facing the door, he look down to see his dorm number to check if he’s in the right spot. Dorm 809; both his key and dorm plate sign has the same number.
Turning the knob, pushing the door open—his bag thud when he saw who’s his roommate is.
“You have got to be fucking kidding me.”

Setting up your easel in your desk, on your side of the bed. Finally finish unpacking and setting up your drawing on your bedside wall, organizing every pen and sketch pad inside the desk drawers and setting up your markers storage to store them in.
A heavy thud was heard from behind, a husky and hoarse voice spoke behind you.
“You have got to be fucking kidding me.” The male curse which surprises you, it was one hell of a greeting, a rude way to welcome your roomie don’t it?
You turn and met him eye to eye, his face filled with annoyances and disgust—as if he saw the most disgusting creature he laid eyes upon.
You could only tug a small smile from your lips and a small wave, you recognize him, of course you do! Scaramouche Raiden, the eldest son of the Raidens. The dickhead, asshole, bastard, a cocky hell of a guy.
He scoff, the side of his lip pulled up—rubbing it on your face how disgust he is to lay his eyes upon to someone not worthy sharing a room with him. “Of course, they’re going to pair me with a fucking girl.” He mutter, took his bags again and threw it on his side of the bed.
“Fuckin’ hell.” He clicks his tongue, and unpacks his things with anger and irritation. You could only stare and stand there, frozen like a statue, not knowing what to say or to do. When you are fucking paired with an asshole.
He first set his guitar on the side, took a pin or it’s just something sharp, you can’t tell. He punctured a fuckin’ hole in the fucking wall, what the fuck? You stare blankly, brows furrow together as if you too—silently judging him on what the fuck is he doing.
He then, took out his electric guitar; it was classy and aesthetically pleasing to the naked eye. Lavender and white colored, rounded corners, and his printed name and signature visible and readable even from a few distance.
The boy turn and face you with a raised brow, “name?” he asked, his tone flat and commanding.
“Pardon?”
“Are you stupid or just plain deaf?” his tone change to annoyances and irritation, his brow furrowing like yours—short-tempered, just like his height.
You tense a little, cleared your throat and maintain a small friendly smile as you told your name, his facial relaxing as he held his hand to offer a handshake. At least he still has some manners left in him.
Having second thoughts, hesitating whether to shake his hand. As if he deserves it, right? You shook his hand with yours, “Scara. Scaramouche Raiden.” He quickly removed his hand away from yours.
Then took a hand sanitizer and sanitize his hand, as if you were some kind of bacteria.
“You’re being rude, you know?” you grunt and scoff at him, “so what, princess? As if you’re the same level as me.” Scara bark back and scoffs, seeing you fold your arms against your chest with a frown on your face.
“You think highly of yourself, mister.” Emphasizing the word as if it was an insult. He scoffs and grin, stepping forward to you, “And what can you do about it, princess? Teach me a lesson or something? Fix me, change me?” he emphasized and mocks you, despite him being the average height, you too, were also short. Hell, even shorter than him, god damn it!
“That’s right.” He licks his upper teeth, showing off his ‘attractiveness’ as he lean down—meeting your eye level. “Shortie going to throw a mini tantrum?” he provokes, his finger pressing to your forehead as he gives it a few light and heavy taps before flicking it.
“God damn— Fuck you!”
“I’d like to see you try, princess.” You scoff at his word, pure disgust planted in your face. “Ew?” you gag and rolled your eyes, “That’s what your doctors first impression about you when your mom gave birth to you.” God damn this bitch has no remorse.
You could only frown as you can’t think of a comeback, you watch as he turns his back on you and continue unpacking his things sloppy and untidy. It looks like he’s in a rush, his smartwatch ding a notification. Fixing his posture, shifting his weight to his left and read the message.
You also received a notification message, it read; “Hey, I’m outside your school gate. Come meet me when you’re already free ;) XOXO”
A wide smile spread across your face after your read the message and stared at it for a few moment, “I’m out, going to rehearse.” Scara announced and took his electric guitar, “I’m going to enjoy toying with you, princess.” He added before leaving, a laugh got out from his lips, menacing and evil.
You roll your eyes and shrug your shoulders on what he said, toying with you? As if. You wouldn’t let yourself get bullied, no ma’am. You only set your mind on one thing.
Finally meeting your long distance boyfriend for the first time.
Last year you two only got a chance to meet up once, but now? Maybe every after school, you get to meet him outside the school gate. His school is only a few blocks away from yours, and his house is an easy walk too as his school and house were only near.
You hurry yourself and rushes to the school gate, panting and slightly sweating as you face him, “you okay?” he sweetly asked, god his voice was mellifluous.
You nodded in response and regain your composure, being all shy all of a sudden and not knowing what to say. You start to break the silence, “You come here often?”
He replied, “Yeah, I had a friend here. We always chat after his practice and hang out at a nearby café.”
Both of you continued talking, wasting hours sharing each others stories and how you aren’t familiar to most places here and how he share his experience here as well. Lost in both of your worlds, the outside world and back ground chattering began to muffle as you both lost in time and in each others presence.
Until it’s time to say each others goodbye, and tomorrow will be the first day your art class will start. You should probably draw something to present tomorrow, right?
დ➳დ➳დ↴
The door swung open, the cool breeze greeted him as if to welcome him in.
“There he is!” Venti playfully exclaimed, Aether then clasp his hand together, “6reeze, let’s all assemble and have our meeting finish and rehearse after.”
Seems like he’s the last one to enter the club room, Scara sat to a nearby window. Xiao leaning on the table then soon sat down on top of it, the boy with two braids; Venti, sat down to a chair—followed by Heizou and Kazuha.
The meeting starts like any other normal club, preparing each activities, what album nor music can they release next or maybe try something different than metal music.
But of course, this was just like any other “nonsense” meeting to him, as Scara sat by the window and listen to their leaders chattering, his gaze caught a glimpse of something outside—down there, as he fully took his gaze off of Aether and look down at the window.
“well, well. Look who we have here.” The dark purple haired boy grins at the sight, of you with your boyfriend, the view was very, very clear too.
“Ahem, Teyvat to Scara?” Aether called out as the lead guitarist, who’s been busy watching from afar. His gaze returned to the boy with golden hair, “mhm?” the lead guitarist raised an eyebrow. “Rehearsal today, does that sound good to you?”
“As in, now?”
“Yeah,” Aether nodded to his question, placing down the paper he has in his hand before going to his keyboard, “whenever all of you are ready.”
Scara took another quick glimpse, seeing how you and your lovely significant other bid farewell. He scoff and let out a chuckle, “this is going to be fun.” He mutter to himself, “what was that?” Xiao asked, seems like he heard what the lead guitarist said, “nothing.” The lead guitarist dismissed.
Little did he know, that Xiao caught a glimpse of the two of you too—how you and that other person touch and bid goodbye.
The two didn’t say anything, instead they got into their position—their respective stand as their music blast the room.
The lead guitarist couldn’t take his mind off of you and your significant other. How did he knew? Because no friend looks and touch that way. It’s pretty darn obvious to him.
Which it’ll be fun and entertaining for him.
The rehearsal finish at five sharp. The band bid their goodbyes and goes on their separate ways. Scara walks to the same hall and staircase to get to his dorm while looking down to his phone and checking for any messages or tea he could read.
Facing the door and turning the knob, he saw you sitting and working on your drawing, “Well, if it isn’t miss artist.” He starts and you ignored his remark.
“Why the cold shoulders?”
“I’m working something here, can’t you see or are you just blind?” you bark to him, he click his tongue and flop down to his side of bed. “What did your boyfriend left you a bad taste or something?” you froze in place, pencil down and your heart race.
“What?” he raised a brow, his hands on the back of his head as he relax in his bed. “You think I didn’t see you two being all lovely-dove? You know that some club rooms are close to the school gate,” he chuckle in the middle of his sentences then continues, “for all I know, not even a friend can look at someone like that.”
“And your point?” you asked as you held your breath, not knowing why. Why is he being a pest at your love life.
“He looks like he doesn’t belong here, comes from another college school correct?” you nodded at his question, not knowing why you answered to him truthfully. “He could be cheating on you, you know.” He grins.
You could only scoff at his accusations, “excuse you.” You stood up and goes up to his side of the room, “My boyfriend would never ever cheat on me. I trust him.”
“That trust blinds you,” he sat up and lean back to the head board of the bed, “seeing is better than believing.” He added and laughs, he truly enjoys toying you like this.
You were silent, dark thoughts crawling in your mind—what ifs and possible scenarios coming together, what if he’s right? You and your lover only saw each other once last year, what if your lover thinks your ugly and having a long distance relationship excuse him for cheating?
Your breathing becomes rapid, panic setting in and fear visible to your eyes, “but you know, I could be wrong though.” Scara laughed, he loves that face you made; terrified, anxiousness, doubt and fear settled in your face. He enjoys your reactions to his make-believe and evil remarks.
“God damn it, you are the worst roommate that anyone could ask for.” You hiss, took his pillow and harshly threw it at him, he could only laugh at your reaction—enjoying that his roommate is a softie and someone he could enjoy pestering.
“Go fuck yourself.”
“Don’t be a pussy and fuck me yourself.” He grins, waiting for your comeback with his flirty remark.
You got to your bed and threw your mini octopus plushy at him, it’s expression ‘angry’ as you were hinting that you are mad at him. “Thanks,” he waves your lavender and black inside-out plush, “for safe keeping.” He laughs and it looks like that plush is now his.
How the tables have turned.

The next morning, in class, you put up your drawing—clipping it to your easel as you stood beside it. You saw other students creation, beautiful, detailed, realistic, imaginary. Their creativity are something else, and you felt you couldn’t match that.
You stand firmly as your art professor walks in, eyeing every each one of the artworks and their artists, he spoke; “There are rules of art, some find techniques and master it. But, today.” His voice deep and husky. “Let us set those rules aside, and want you guys to draw from the very core of your soul.” He added.
Students looks at him confuse, he then continued, his tone hinting playfulness and in a joking tone. “Well, to understand, can someone held their painting up and tear it?” he asked, then chuckle as he saw no one tear up their painti—
Rip.
Gasp from the students were heard, all eyes were on you—tearing up the drawing you did last night. Shock, from the male professors face, he steps forward to you, “y/n.” he called, “I was just joking, why would you tear up a beautiful drawing like that?” he asked, stress can be heard in his tone of voice.
He let out a sigh from his lips and still spread a smile, “Care to tear it once more?” you obliged to his request and tear it once more, “now, that wasn’t so hard. Wasn’t it?” he smiled and patted your head, you were praise by your art professor but he was a bit stress when you took his silly joke too literally.
“Let me introduce myself again, I am Zhongli. I’ll be your art professor fro this semester, so everybody grab their pencil and present something from your hearts content.”
Professor Zhongli was a professional in arts and ancient history of arts, he’s also a gentleman and a total opposite of him. He’s tall, has fair skin tone, amber-eyes with yellow diamond shaped pupils and red eyeliner on the lower lids of his eyes. His hair dark brown with a longer fringe on the right side of his face, he also has a rattail at the back. Then a golden brown tip that seems to glow a little, it’s eye-catchy and sometimes distracting when he turns his back and teaches.
The bell rang and class was dismissed, you made your way to the campus ground to find some inspiration, headphones in, blasting soft lo-fi music.
You stop your tracks when you saw one of the band members of 6reeze; Xiao, talking to professor Zhongli. Xiao also caught you standing there, he didn’t say anything and just wave at you. You wave back and gave him a smile, then a hand stop you.
“There you are..!” it’s a females voice, sounds like she’s been in a run to come and find you. You turned and face her, “oh hey, Kylie.” You greeted.
Kylie, your internet friend that you have finally met thanks to her attending to the same school as you.
“So..” she’s still catching her breath, she sure made a run for it. “w-… Where you heading?” she asked, taking a couple of deep breaths as her chest finally relax and so do her breathing.
“somewhere less crowded to take air and maybe find some inspiration for my next drawing,” you replied with a smile, she tagged along and clung to your left arm as the two of you walk out. You both talk about how different your major to hers, and ranted how you have an asshole of a roommate.
“ok, ok.” Kylie started and munch on her muffin, “you tore your drawing apart?” she asked again, to make sure for good measures. You nodded in response, letting your headphones rest on your neck as you doodle something in your sketchpad.
The both of you were sitting in the grass, you admiring the greenery of the school and sketching random trees. And your friend… munching and sharing her days how she missed you, and how she’s happy finally meeting you face to face. “You know there’s a café nearby here, let’s go there sometime.” She suggested, “my treat!” she added with enthusiasm hinted in her voice.
“By the way,” she leaned in and rest her head to your shoulder, clinging to your arm again as if you are her lover. “That roommate of yours, if I was in your shoe; I would’ve demand the principal to switch me a roommate.” She huffs, “guess who’ll I rather have a roommate?” Kylie asked with a grin.
“Nah. I already knew who.” You grinned.
“Tell me.”
“Xiao.”
The girl made a squeal, hugging your arm tight and kicking her feet as she goes on rambling on how ‘delusional’ she is for Xiao.
Then someone harshly bumped next to you two as they pass by.
“Hey, watch it, dickhead!” your friend curses at a certain boy and she gave him the middle finger. And of course, it was Scara.
“Get it? Dickhead?” your friend silently giggles, “because his haircut looks like a shape of a dick no? Not funny at all?” she made an ‘aww’ sound and purse her lips to you.
The boy with golden long braids yell, “Sorry!” from the distance, you took a glance at their direction and wave at them and gave them a thumbs up, saying it’s ok.
You felt another persons presence behind you, looking up to see Xiao towering over the two of you, his expression unreadable and his tone flat. “I apologize on our lead guitarist behalf.” He said and gave a slight bow to show that he’s genuine and respectful.
You can feel Kylies silent squealing as you stood up and she followed, “I’m Xiao, you probably already knew that but I rather keep it like this.” Xiao offer a hand to shake, you took it and said your name to him—he smiled. “And she is?” he points to your friend, before you could speak, she took Xiao’s hand to shake. You can almost sense she was trembling, “Kylie! I’m her friend.” She nervously shook his hand before Xiao removed his from her trembling hand, he nodded at her and turn to you again.
“Here, have a cupcake. Accept these for an apology for Scara’s behavior. Truly sorry for that.” His tone change to something genuine, as in he’s truly expressing how sorry he is for their lead guitarist behavior.
You and Kylie took a cupcake, “Thank you.” You smiled at him, “Is he also your roommate?” Xiao asked, you nodded. “I see, please don’t hesitate to tell us his reckless behavior nor is he bothering you and kept pestering you. We’ll deal with him.” And with that, the boy left to return to his band group.
“Good thing you didn’t embarrassed yourself.” You remark as you ate the cupcake Xiao gave to the two of you, “Good thing I didn’t said something stupid.” Kylie let out a huff and laughs.
“oh shit!” Kylie curse, munching her cupcake almost as if she’s eating it all in one bite, as she spoke—you couldn’t understand her when her mouth is fucking full. “Don’t talk with your mouth full, idiot.” You sigh, curious on why she’s in a panic.
She swallowed and hiccup, took your tumbler to drink some of your water. “Y-You..” she needs to catch her breathing first, “You have a boyfriend, right? Here? From another school and only a few blocks away?” questions over question was thrown at you, you could only nodded and watch her rummage through her phone.
Anxiety sets in, you don’t know what’s happening but you could feel your heart race. “When you haven’t arrived here yet,” Kylie starts, “I thought your boyfriend was a familiar lad, but he was the same person I saw a few weeks ago.”
A few weeks ago, before you got here?
Kylie showed you a bunch of photos, not edited, not Photoshop, it was legitimately real. You saw your lover in the picture, a girl clinging to his arm, the picture was a little blurry but you could tell that it was him. “here, I even filmed them to ask you if it’s your lover or it’s a different person.”
“no, no. That’s him alright.” You quickly replied, not even a second thought held on that. You took her phone and held it in your hand, you click play and watch the whole video.
The video shows you, your lover and the girl—the camera zooming in on them. You can’t hear what they’re saying but you are sure that the bastard in the video was your boyfriend. The fucking audacity, the girl was clinging into his arm and kissing his cheek—making you want to barf and vomit the cupcake you’re eating right now.
The video ended, it was only ten seconds long but you are sure that his predicament were right. “I have to go.” You told your friend as you finish eating your cupcake, putting away your sketchpad and pencils in your tote bag and bid goodbye to Kylie.
You heard her yell out, “Text me, ok!?” you gave her a thumbs up, noting that you’ll surely text her.
Tears were forming in your eyes, you tried holding them back but a tear fell from your cheek. You wall to the hallway, some people noticed you as you made a run for it—running away from them and running up the staircase to get to your shared dorm room with him.

Scara was on his desk, in his side of the room as he compose his part of the music they’re now currently working on. Headsets on to have the outside world muffled as tunes and relaxing music sets in—as he strum his finger against his electric guitar, if he finds the tune more fitting—he then will write it down, hence and repeat.
Bursting in your shared room was not something he expect, “Holy shit—” he cursed, headset almost fell to the floor and having his phone open and had his band on a video call. You startled him as he made a sound of relief from his lips, “holy shit, you could have at least knocked first.”
You ignored his remark, instead—you sat down to the edge of your bed, blankly staring down at the floor. He can see how your eyes were red and swollen, Venti's voice spoke to his headphone as it was on Bluetooth connected.
“Something wrong?” The vocalist asked Scara, the lead guitarist could only stare and watch you like a statue, you wouldn’t even budge or flinch.
He raised a finger to his phone and placed down his headset to his desk, “hey.” He called, but you ignored, “Teyvat to y/n?” he snaps his finger to get your attention.
Scara can hear whispers from his headset, he glared at his phone and sigh—he then stood up from his seat and walk towards to you, knelt down on one knee to meet your eye to his, “Teyvat to y/n.” he repeated, “your eyes are red,” he then stood up to squat as he took your chin to his fingertips, “look, I know something happened. Did I made you cry about something? Did I hit you and your friends shoulders too hard?” he threw questions at you, but his voice weren’t the same stern and irritating tone but rather low and soft as if he’s trying his best to understand you.
“You good?” he asked again, tears then started to rain from your cheeks again. “S-Shit. Look, princess. I d-did not want to make you cry, I-I’m sorry, o-ok?” he stammer, panic sets in him. He didn’t know why you were crying, but all he knew that he did not like it.
His Bluetooth suddenly got disconnected from his headset as voices of his band sets in the room, “Making a girl cry? Not cool, Scara.” “oh dear, what did you do?” “apologizing to her won’t do, beg for forgiveness. On your knees.” “Yeah, your mom wouldn’t like this. Can you stop her from crying and give comfort at least?”
“Could all of you shut the fuck up?” He snaps at his band members through the phone, “look, I suck at this. What happened? Tell me and stop crying.” He demands in a softest way possible, but it is still a demand.
You couldn’t form your words, couldn’t even form a sentence and you don’t know where to start. He can only make out a few sentences and words, but all he could make sense is that ‘his predicament were right.’
“So, you mean I was right, all along?” He confirms, you could only nod and weep. Scara slowly nods and turn his head to look at his band, they only gave him a peace sign and tell him, “you fucked up.” And hang up.
Scara let out a frustrated scoff and messes his hair up, then look down on you—still weeping and sniffling, trying to stop your tears.
It was a minute of silence, only the fan and your breaths were heard, he starts; “Look, I’m sorry. I was just joking, I didn’t mean it to be real, ok?” he apologized and scoot over next to you, his legs spread and his elbow resting to either of his thighs as he clasp his hands together and look at you.
You could only weep in response, not having the energy to say a word. He even got the most comfortable blanket wrapped around your shoulder as if he’s covering your whole body up, acting like you had a strong cold. “Ok, ok. Who’s this bastard again?” he asked and you didn’t give two shits about your cheater boyfriend no more and gave away his name.
“Ok, so the next time you meet him at the school gate. Bring me along.” He remarked and put his arm around you and placed you down to his lap, “comfortable?” he asked, you nodded as your eyes were red and swollen and eyelids were heavy.
“noted.” You manage to utter before fully shutting your eyes and feeling his embrace around you while in the most soft and comforting blanket. “alright, get some rest.” He sigh and had you cradle in his arms tonight.
A bit odd on how you find comfort in his touch, his presence, and even his voice as he starts to sing you lullaby to help you sleep faster. As if his mellifluous tone uttering the lyrics was too good not to hear nor miss. Deep within, you wish you could hear him sing you another time, as you seek comfort in both of his voice, and presence.
დ➳დ➳დ↴
Strangely enough, you found yourself being in your roommates arms frequently. As if you’re seeking his presence and warmth against yours and even taking it far from borrowing one of his oversize hoodies and wear it as if it’s your own.
“what the fuck are you wearing?” Scara asked with a drink in his hand, as he points to the hoodie you’re wearing, “it’s that mine?”
“No, it’s now mine.” You snuggle and hug the hoodie you’re wearing close to your body, “it’s comfy.” You added and pulled the hood up.
“whatever.” He rolled his eyes and drank his can drink.
What’s more strange that he didn’t mind it, he didn’t mind that you’re being all too clingy to the point you find yourself waiting outside his club room to wait for their rehearsal to finish and drag him away because he “promise” to take you out as is it’s his treat. Even your own friend thought you’re being odd now.
“Hey girly!” Kylie greeted, waving and hopping towards you to greet you with a hug too. You could only hug back and greet with a happy hum, the girl then look at you then at the club room door. “Why are you being a by stander here all of a sudden?” she asked with a raised eyebrow.
You didn’t answer, you only lay your head low and look at the ground while humming their songs, Kylie sigh and hangs out with you, standing for hours.
Then the boys finished, Scara slide the door open and steps out—only to glance down at you when he steps out, “What the fuck?” he cursed, you stopped your friend from saying a word and pulled Scara away.
Away from his band members, away from your friend and away from the crowd.
“Looks like they’ve grown close.” Xiao remarked, his presence only behind to Kylie, “yeah. Too close.” She frowns and sigh.
“Want to hang out with us?” Xiao asked the girl, the other members greeting her with a smile and filling the atmosphere with laugher and joy, “sure!”
So odd, that your friend, and his friends also suspect that something fishy is going on.
Venti cleared his throat as he sat on top of the table while Scara brush off some dust of his guitar, “so.” The main vocal starts, breaking the silence.
“You’re good at math right?”
“What about it?”
Venti enthusiastically grins and chuckle at your response, “Formally speaking; may I require your assistance in a simple math problem? I find your arithmetic intelligence quite intriguing my friend.”
“If it’s a simple math problem then go solve it yourself.”
“come on! It’s only one..” Venti frowns and whines at him, Scara could only roll his eyes and wave his hand to gesture, ‘ask away.’
Venti smiled and tap the table, “I shall provide you two-variable equation, my friend! You plus your adorbs roomie equals?”
“You seriously asking this bullshit?”
“Yes.”
“Cannot be.”
“Ouch?” Venti dramatically groan to the pain and fake a sob, “Oh how cruel of you! To have such an adorable roommate like that, it’s impossible to have the answer; cannot be!”
Funny enough, Kylie also asked you the same thing and you answered the same. But with a hint of doubt in your answer.
You have always seek his presence, warmth and mellifluous voice every chance you get. You were getting too comfortable with him to the point where you both share the same bed even though this dormitory has two bedroom for a reason. You find yourself in his bed or him in your bed.
Having a nightmare? Scared of the loud roar of thunders? Can’t sleep? Feeling uneasy? You will and always will find yourself standing up from your bed and going to his, snuggling close as if he’s your teddy bear or you his little bear.
“Why are you here again?” Scara asked, his tone tired and sleepy as he rub his eyes.
“I can’t sleep, I had a nightmare.” Scara clicked his tongue to your response as he groan, pulling you close to his chest and pressing his chin at the top of your head, “there. Now go to sleep.” he grumbled and pulled your body close to his.
This would happen every often, then before you know it. It’s now a normal routine for the both of you, hell even every morning there will be hugs and kisses for a way to greet good morning.
And little by little, day by day and even weeks had pass, little feelings began to crawl in. Pushing in their way to develop the chemistry between the music and art students.
But hey, it wasn’t so bad after all.
დ➳დ➳დ↴
How long has it been the moment you and him finally settle to your lifestyle like this? Three months? Or less than that?
You were rummaging in your drawer, looking for available comfy clothes but you can’t see one. You stood up and go over to Scara’s side and rummage through his things, “Really?” he scoff and squint his eyes to you.
You stick your tongue out and took his oversize hoodie, again. And wore it to your liking, it was pass your knees and you’re wearing a cat high-knee socks. It compliments the look.
Scara could only roll his eyes and lean back to his seat, you walk up to him and casually sat down to his lap—giving all your weigh to him and snuggling close to his warmth, “bitch.”
“you’re a bitch too.” You barked back and pinch his side as he jolt and flinch at the pain, “god damn it.”
You smile and kick your feet up as your phone dings a notification, Scara took it and read it with you as his hand were supporting your rear while you’re on his lap. The message read; “Hey, it’s been 3 months since the last time we met. Want to hang out today? Come meet me at your school gate ;) XOXO”
“Ew?” Scara scoff and place your phone down to his desk and spun around with his chair, moving around as if he’s giving you a mini roller-coaster ride.
“I have to meet him.” You remark.
“No, you don’t.”
“Yes, I do.”
“Nah.”
You frown at his response and tries to kick your feet to move the chair back to his desk, “Nah uh.” He said, “Yah uh.” You responded, “You’re here with me, in my arms, in my embrace. So no.”
He push himself back and took your phone in his arm, “lay your head to my neck, I have an idea to have you avoiding that piece of shit.” You followed what he said and snuggle yourself close to him, your face covering up to his neck as he snap a picture—us his two hands to send and type; “Sorry, this little brat of a princess is busy cuddling with me. Also, not making an effort nor show yourself inside those 3 months, seriously? What kind of a dickhead of a boyfriend are you? Plus, I heard you cheated on this poor little brat, thanks for that. I’ll be taking over, and also. You look like a fucking pig that has been abandoned by your owner and was never loved by your mother, so that’s why you treat your partner like shit and took advantage of the long distance relationship so you could cheat. Disgusting imbecile.”
“What did you send to him?”
“None of your business.” He answered and stood up, cradling you in his arm as he lay your back against the soft fabric of the bed and puts all of his weight on top of you.
“Don’t worry, he won’t bother you no more and, I broke up with him for your behalf.” He informed and drown himself to your scent and chest. “small tits.” He remarked.
“says the one who has a small dick.”
“You haven’t even seen my size yet, princess.” He grins and pulled himself up and cage you in his bed. He leaned in and whisper into your ear, “want to me to make you my little slut in broad daylight?”
დ➳დ➳დ↴
You didn’t know how it happened, it just did.
You were in his lap, legs spread wide open, you mewling over and breathing softly as you felt your heart race. His fingers in between your folds, motioning in circle to tease your aching hole. He whispers degrading words next to your ear as he finally plunged in his middle finger in.
His left arm around your back, holding you close and supporting you so you wouldn’t fall over, this his hand around your side to held your tummy, strumming like it’s the string of his guitar. You were confuse but you could only mewl and let out a gasp when he began scissoring his fingers inside you—you didn’t even felt a second finger entering.
“There we go, such a needy hole you have.” He scoff and god, he’s spreading your tight walls so good. You arch your back and whimper at him, biting on to the fabric of his hoodie that you’re wearing. Your cunt clench around his fingers, he can feel it pulse and twitch, “You want more? What a whore.”
And there, inserting a third finger—you gasp and held on to his chest and thigh, panting and mewling as you tried to move your hips away from his fingers subconsciously. He plunges in and stayed still, “Stop moving, bitch.” He hiss and harshly thrust his fingers, spreading you out.
“Let me teach you how to play a guitar, hm?” he spoke next to your ear and starts to separate his fingers and pressing pressure inside of you, stretching you even more. You moan and gave shuddered breaths, tears forming in your eyes as you look up at him with those beautiful glassy half-lidded stare, begging him to do more.
“Feel this, this is E major and this is E minor.” He spread his fingers and pressed pressure inside your cunt, he felt it clench around his fingers—your back arching and you almost crying your moans on how it’s becoming too much and how you felt something warm inside your stomach.
“No, no. You’re not going to cum just yet, I haven’t finish teaching you all the basic chords.” He murmur, his brows furrow together and a sinister grin can be seen across his face. “I c-can’t help, ‘m going to c-cum..” you mutter, his fingers retreating and you mewl at the sudden emptiness as he snaps his three fingers back in.
Your eyes widen as tears rolled down from your cheeks and you muffled your scream as you felt your release, “Oh, I didn’t know you squirt.” Scara almost laugh at the sight, his gaze almost degrading and he looks like he’s plotting something evil.
As you let out broken gasp and trying to calm yourself from you high, you opened your eyes and saw him lay you down from your back—in his bed, as he position himself in between, “Look at the mess you’ve created in my bed,” he sigh and pulled you by your hip, pressing his hard length against your soaked cunt. “Such a needy slut, you don’t mind me using your hole as a toy for now, right?”
Your manage to frown at him, watching him pulling down his sweatpants and letting his length sprung free, his tip almost hitting his belly button and he sure is thick.
You mewl as he rub himself against your wet cunt, brushing his tip against your folds and pressing his slit to your clit—resulting him to hiss. God you’re sure he won’t be gentle with you.
He grabbed your thighs and motion you to wrap your legs around him as he press his tip to your entrance, “You’re loose enough, you can take me in one swift motion.” And with that, you felt like you’re being stretch apart by something thick when he thrust and bottom himself out to your cervix.
“God, fuck. Taking me well with this tight cunt you whore.” He hiss with a laugh, “oh, fuck so tight.” He moan as he pulls back and plunge himself deeper again, you almost moan aloud, the only thing that’s muffling you is you biting onto his blanket. Mewling and weeping on how good he’s stretching your cunt with his fat cock, every thrust you’ll shudder and clench around his length.
“Fuck, such a good slut.” He hiss again, finding his preferred pace—taking grasp of your thighs, pushing them back as he spread his legs wider to go much, much deeper.
He growls every thrust he make, he leans and pecks your neck and collarbone with sloppy kisses and bite marks—he couldn’t contain himself, he could not hold back.
You were already crying on how overstimulated you are, but he kept on going and singing either degrading words and praises in your ear. He’s even vocal with his moans, more like on grunts and growls, even his moans and grunts soothing like early birds in the morning.
You try to quiet yourself down to hear more of his mellifluous moans and grunts every time he plunges himself deeper inside you, but fail because on how good he’s fucking you stupid with his length.
Not that long, you felt your second release and squirt yourself in his cock. “That’s right, cum on my cock like a whore you are.” He chuckle and pecks you love bites more, and soon after, he chase his own high as he plunged himself deeper to release his seeds. Abusing your poor cervix.
He rides out most of his seeds, pushing his tip and not letting a drop go to waste before collapsing on top of you, not even thinking of pulling out.
“P-Pull out..” you mewl, “make me.” He replied as he wraps his arms around you and gave a few light thrust to have him hear your sweet melodic moans again.
You didn’t knew you’d even last, he has a really high sex drive and you did not know. He fucks you dumb all day, resulting not attending your classes that day as you beg and mewl for him to stop because you have class and that his band needed him, but he told you they not important right now. What’s important is him breeding out your sweet little cunt, but hey. At least you can hear him grunt and moan right?
დ➳დ➳დ↴
The two of you cuddle in each others arms, his back leaned over the wall and you in the center of his legs that’s been spread apart so you can lay your butt on the softness of the bed cushion. His chin on your shoulder as he taps you by your tummy while being covered in thick blanket, “mhm?” you look up at him with half-lidded eyes, fighting the urge to close them.
“I didn’t make it to your wall?” he raise a brow and pointed at your side of the room—at your wall, where you store up your paintings, “your friend and my band members made up to the wall, why didn’t I?” Scara growls and frowns at you, jealousy creeping in.
You shrug and rest your back to his front, head going to the crook of his neck as you mutter, “dunno.”
“I won’t be paying for your Starbucks.”
“you won’t do that.”
“Oh, yes I will.”
You huff and crawled out of his bed, limping as you walk to your bed and curled up like a ball there. He laughs at the sight as you flip him off with your middle finger and he could only laugh.
The following days were normal and sometimes chaotic whenever you and your friends hang out, your friend and well… Roommate hated each others guts and always yelling each others curses nor making you choose between them here on out. The school first semester almost brought to an year, and till next year—you will meet them again.
The band; 6reeze, had something in planned for all campus before going home to celebrate with their families, they posted their invitation on the school group,—inviting everyone to their performance before years semesters end.
It was crowded and many students cheer and yell as the boys got on stage, they got to their respective position and yell out to all of the students—bringing their attention to the stage, “Me and my friends put up a show before we all got home and reunite with our family, to celebrate the end of the schools semester.” Venti starts, “we hope you love it!”
Music blast and crowds went wild as they sing the song that they already knew, the student sang along and dances within the crowds.
You and your friend were watching them shine in that stage, even though they are already shining but seeing them perform live and in front makes it special. Then a new song kick in, this must be the song he talk about with you.
“Wait, I must go.” You told Kylie, “what? But it was just getting good..” she whines and you made your run with a smile on your face, waving her goodbye to the distance. Well, she can’t stop you doing what you’re going to do, right?
დ➳დ➳დ↴
The performance ended and other students bid their goodbyes as the boys got some time to autograph for some students who asked them.
The lead guitarist look around but no signs of you, must've miss the performance, perhaps? Scara look around and call out to a familiar girl, “Hey!” he yelled and walk up to her, “Where’s y/n?” he asked.
Kylie was talking to Xiao and taking a couples of pictures with him and taking his autograph, she turn to face the lead guitarist, “She was in a hurry, so I didn’t stop her from leaving.”
Scara sighs and nodded at her response, “thanks.” And left off.
Running in a hurry and passing by the same locker room in the same familiar hallway and running up to the same staircase where their shared room is.
Panting and sweating as he burst open through the door, “oh goodness!” you were startled and look at him in disbelief, “why are you in a rush?” You asked as you neatly pack your luggage’s, but what caught Scara’s attention was the big canva portrait that you hang up through the wall. He smiled and scoff.
“Looks like I made it to the wall, huh?”
You laugh and responded, “you sure did.”
The portrait shows the 6reeze members, but what’s eye-catchy about it is where you stand before it when watching the performance play, Scaramouche’s figure is bigger than most of the other members. Catching his figure and focusing on every detail when he plays his electric guitar as you could hear him sing along with his mellifluous voice with the vocalist.
The two of you only look at the painting you did up to the wall, admiring it and talking before leaving it there.
And hence, that’s how the story of an art and music person romances. It was lovely.
Because that was everything.

king!ghost x reader -- journey
You wake up in the morning, groggy from last night's lack of sleep. Sliding out of bed, you dread today. Ghost was taking you to your new “home.” Kastron.
After a silent breakfast, you’re standing at the bottom of the courtyard, taking in the hustle and bustle of footmen and maids packing the carriage full to the brim with your and his belongings. Of course, this leaves you no room to sit in the carriage on the journey to the Kingdom of Kastron. Four days of traveling on horseback. Great.
You had been riding multiple times before; you had your own horse and everything. You usually went riding a few times a month, but it was mainly for fun. You knew this journey was about to test your physical capabilities. God, you could already hear the sniping comments directed at you from him.
You had the foresight to wear male pants and a blouse, paired with a pair of boots you knew were going to come in use.
You watched as you saw Ghost holding the lead to his horse and your own horse. He approaches you in all his glory, decked now in his simple iron armor. His sword is sheathed at his side, an alarming reminder of his strength. His skill. You noticed the simple silver band on his finger as he held out your horse’s reins to you. The hand of a killer, you think to yourself.
“Good morning.” He practically purred.
You clutched the lead from his hold, stroking your mare's head. “How much longer before we leave?”
“Any minute now,” he says energetically. “You should say goodbye to your parents.”
“No,” you say firmly, leaving no room for argument. Your grip tightened around the lead. You refused to look at them, acting all innocent standing in the doorway.
He stares at you for a second.
“You’ll see them at the wedding.”
Ghost comes up to you to help you mount your horse, grabbing your waist with an iron grip. As soon as you’re settled in the saddle, his hand lingers for a moment. You look down at him, and in that moment, he retracts his hand in an instant, as if he had been burned.
With that, you set out together, the captain of the guard, servants, and luggage following behind. The people of your village were quiet, sparse applause in the crowds as your entourage made its way out of the kingdom. They knew just as well as you did where you were headed. Who you were with. They could only hope that their princess wouldn’t be crushed by the man who has wiped out armies.
After a couple of hours you were already exhausted, bones and muscles aching from the treacherous terrain.
Every once in a while, Ghost would turn to you to ask if you were alright, and every single time your answer was a snappy “I’m fine.” You were determined to not show how physically weak you actually were.
As the sun started to set, you noticed how truly exhausted you were. Your arms ached, your thighs and legs spasming from overuse on the saddle. There’s no way you can do three more days of this. Eyes drooping, you were practically falling asleep in the saddle, fighting to keep your eyes open.
Ghost has looked completely unbothered the whole day, his posture practically perfect even as he donned his heavy armor.
He held up a single hand, stopping the entourage. You sighed in relief, thankful to be able to finally rest for the night.
“Set up camp here,” he calls out to the footmen, and they quickly spring into action, pulling out materials and tents. “Secure the perimeter,” he orders his captain.
Ghost dismounts his horse, rolling out his shoulders before coming up to you. Your hands are still gripping onto the reins. If you let go, you think you would fall asleep right then and there.
“My lady,” he says, holding out his hand for you to take.
You practically leaned into his body as you dismounted the mare; you were too exhausted to respond. You had to grab onto his forearms with all your might, afraid that if you let go for even a moment, your legs would give out. Fighting with everything in you, you try not to wince as your feet settle onto the ground.
He saw your condition right away, cursing to himself.
“I ought to have realized you weren't capable of traveling this far.”
Immediately he’s dragging you towards a tree, letting you lie against the base of the trunk to rest. You shut your eyes, too exhausted to speak to him. You think you fall asleep for a moment because he’s shaking you awake, telling you that the tent is constructed and ready to use.
Ghost leads you into your shared tent. You barely register what he’s saying until he’s motioning to the cots that were set up a few feet apart from each other.
“Separate beds. You need to sleep.”
It took all of your strength to change into your sleepwear, not even considering how exposed you would be next to your now-fiance. Collapsing into bed, you roll onto your stomach, burying your face into your pillow. Before sleep can consume you, you feel hands on your shoulders.

Sleep deprived rant incoming-
I’m watching merlin for the umpteenth time and there’s something i noticed. In the gayest show to ever gay (and this is compared to so many other shows that i watch) not once have i ever heard talk of these two:
And i don’t mean the two thugs from the tavern pretending to be Sir Ethan and Sir Oswald, i mean them before they were killed.
I will admit i’m not deep into the Merlin fandom, i mainly just follow the merthur tag and like the occasional post. They could have been talked about by someone at some point, I have no clue. All I know is i searched Ao3 and only found seven fics with Oswald in them and nine with Ethan, only one of which had them together and that was for a threesome with Merlin.
Anyway I think it’s pretty darn clear that these two were in a relationship. They were both traveling together -two knights from separate houses given the fact that they both had differing crests- with a single servant accompanying them with one larger tent in the back and two other smaller ones, one which was occupied by the servant that was with them. When they were attacked sir ethan’s first concern was also sir oswald when he was downed.
When Dagger and Ebor arrived in the two knights place they were show to the same room and Merlin brought up a single chest containing both men’s luggage. Given the conversation and what was said i don’t think there was another room set up for Sir Ethan, also the fact that Arthur clearly had no clue who this man was or about his impending arrival in camelot, it made it seem like he was staying in the room but again they had been replaced at this point so who knows. Both swords were kept in the one room. I’m sure Ebor -disguised as Sir Ethan- was in the same room as Dagger considered his unkempt state and the fact that he was there when Dagger was throwing knives at Merlin when it had probably taken a minute for Gwaine to get there even if he was moving as fast as he could (Merlin did say he had to travel up seven flights of stairs to get from the square to Sir Oswald’s room after all).
Now i could be wrong about this. Whenever the room was brought up they called it ‘Sir Oswald’s chambers’. Sir Oswald also clearly held a higher status than Ethan, so maybe it was some sort of protection detail or something but if that was the case why would there have only been Sir Ethan and the one servant at the camp -i would think there would be others there as well if Sir Oswald was in that high of standing that there would be additional knights along the journey for his protection.
Again i could be wrong, my knowledge of hierarchy and knights and stuff isn’t the greatest. But i think in one of the gayest shows to ever exist -and considering how often knights were historically in secret same sex relationships- it is highly likely these two were together.
#im tired#this is legit just random speculation#but it still makes ya think#bbc merlin#merlin rewatch#merthur#because they deserve to be mentioned

SEONGHWA X READER
{Chapter 2}
Treasure
Warnings::I think guns are mentioned like once/Sexually and mentally abusive relationship!!!!
Pairing::pirate!seonghwa x princess!reader
Genre:: pirate AU
A/N::I literally started writing this RIGHT after I finished the first chapter bc I'm so addicted to this story 😭 I'm sorry this chapter is kinda boring but I promise it's important to the story and we'll get to the juicy stuff soon
Taglist:: @hi-kariii @deltamoon666
Reminder‼️this isn't 100% historically accurate and should be taken with a grain of salt. This story is also set in the late 1800s to early 1900s specifically in Europe but if you want you can imagine it wherever else you'd like, it is a fictional story after all 💗 this story also takes some inspiration from pirates of the Caribbean, specifically the first movie.
Part 1:
You wake up bright and early feeling refreshed and recharged. You sit up and stretch your necklace moving up with the movement of your shoulders. You look down at your necklace and remember what happened with Seonghwa yesterday. You pick up the accessory off your neck to look at the bottom of it. An hourglass with blue sand on the inside. You flip the charm upside down and watch the sand fall.
You look over at the clock by your dresser. The clock reads 6:39 am. You stretch and put a robe over your nightgown. You fetch your maid and she helps you put on a simple and slender dress. You need a simpler dress to wear to the children's school because a big dress is too much of a hassle. You finish putting on your dress and open the door to see your Fiance in the hallway. You look back at your maid confused but she's busy cleaning your clothes.
"Prince Herrington?" You call out in a confused tone. Herrington turns to look at you and smiles. You approach him and he kisses your hand elegantly. "What are you doing here?" You ask as you notice maids and merchants bringing in luggage into one of the guest rooms.
"Well since I traveled halfway across the country to ask for your hand in marriage I see no reason to go back to my kingdom just yet," he explains as he holds your hands. You watch as the merchants bring in more luggage. "I'm going to be staying here with you until we get married," he states as he lets your hands go.
"I see," you hummed and forced yourself to smile.
"Aren't you delighted my princess?" He asks as with his arms behind his back and his chin up high, looking down on you again.
"Yes, we will have much more time to talk to one another this way," you look at him with a smile.
"No, no, dear," he cuts you off. "I'll be doing work. You will be doing whatever women do," he nods before laughing loudly. His laugh echoed throughout the castle. You swallow your anger and force out a soft laugh.
"I shall be going now," you nod, leaving the scene quickly to go to the children's school.
"Oh, by the way, I've assigned soldiers at the door to accompany you when you leave the castle. That filthy pirate will never come near you again, any pirate that is," he grunted before continuing his business. You went downstairs to the main hall and there they were. Two soldiers by the doorway. You approached them carefully as they held their guns to their chest.
"Must you accompany me to the school?" You ask nervously.
"Yes, princess. We were ordered to accompany you anytime you step out of this castle," one of the soldiers speaks without even looking at you before opening the door and letting you step out.
The walk to the school was quiet and boring. The tension between the two men ruined your aura anytime you waved to a citizen. Instead of them smiling and waving back they'd bow as you walked by. As you walk down the street you see the merchant from yesterday, painting as he awaits customers. You look between the fruit table and the painting table. That's where Seonghwa had his body pressed against yours, his wrist in his hand, his eyes down your dress. The soldiers kept marching you towards the school as you relive the memories.
Eventually, you arrived at the school and got to see all of the lovely children. At first, they were intimidated by the soldiers but once you told them they were there to protect everyone they got comfortable. You then followed through with your usual schedule, telling stories, dancing, and painting with the children.
After you had finished dancing the children asked you to sing. You were taken aback by their request. "You want me to sing?" You asked in a childish tone. "I don't know," you sighed dramatically. The kids only got more riled up. "Alright, alright, what do you wish for me to sing?" You asked as birds flew by the field.
"Come into the garden!" One of the kids called out excitedly and you obliged.
"Come into the garden, you're lucky I know that one," you say as you stand up off the blanket on the grass. You clear your throat and begin to sing. The kids surprisingly listen well and some sing along. By the end of the song, it was time for the kids to eat. You say bye to each of the children giving them pats on the head or a kiss to their forehead before they leave to the dining area. You sigh and fix your hat. You turn to the soldiers with a blank expression. "I would like to stop by a few merchants on the way back to the castle please," you say as you adjust the bottom of your dress. The soldiers nod and lead you out of the school field. You wave to the teacher before leaving back to the streets.
You stop by a few shops as you walk back, taking your time to appreciate each stand. You stop at a bread bakery and buy two loads of bread and request a basket to carry them in along with the next few things you'll buy.
"Of course princess," the baker says as she hands you the basket. You thank her before leaving with the bread, the soldiers following close by. You continue to shop around and end up buying more than you had entailed. After arriving home you put away the goods in a safe place. You now had to decide whether to paint or go outside again for the rest of the day. Until lunch at least.
[Time skip]
You sat straight in front of your dinner. Your fiance sitting next to you as everyone prayed. You then were finally allowed to eat your long awaited dinner. It was full course and stocked with lots of delicious flavors. The meat was cooked perfectly to your liking and the temperature was just right. Herrington on the other hand couldn't disagree more.
"The meat is way too overcooked and there's hardly any flavor in any of this," he complained with food in his mouth. You took a deep breath and swallowed your food before cutting some more of the meat. "And it's practically frozen, why is it so damn cold?" He looked up at the maid and she apologized with a bow. You look down at your plate as the rest of the table is silent.
You looked up at the maid with a consoling look. Despite Herrington whining he was still eating his food, and rather loud. Did this man have any manners? You took a deep breath but your corset restricted your ability to breathe. It also hugged your stomach tightly to the point any food you ate nearly came right back out.
You set down your knife and wiped your lips with a napkin. Your mother looked up at you concerned. "Is everything alright Y/N?" She asked with dark eyes.
"I'm feeling unwell," you say as you hold your head. The maid instantly comes to your side offering assistance. She helps you up to your room and you ask her to help you undress. She finally takes off your corset and you let out a relieved sigh. She chuckles and hands you your nightgown.
"I cleaned it today," she said as she let you change in private. "I will take care of your dishes," she said before leaving your room. As she went down the stairs you heard her stop and talk with herrington. Soon after you heard a knock on your door and the door opened slowly. Herrington stepped in and closed the door. All he could see is your silhouette behind the curtain.
"Y/N," he calls out in a calm voice as he walks closer to you.
"Yes," you reply as you finally finish putting your gown on. You close the curtain and he smiles at you.
"If you didn't like the food you can just say that? There is no need to act sick to run away from the food," he smiles caringly as he strokes your bare arm. You nod and he smirks. "I was thinking, you looked beautiful in the dress tonight," he says as he raises his hand to your cheek, petting your skin softly and your eyes are glued to the floor. "Look at me princess," he says as he lifts your chin. You look at Herrington with tired eyes. "I thought maybe tonight we could mix things up," he said as his hand moved to your lips. Slowly caressing them with his thumb. He kisses you and all you can do is comply.
"How so?" You look up at him and he smiles.
"You know what I mean princess. I can take you places you've never been, pleasure beyond your imagination," he explains as he strokes your hair.
"I'm not really feeling it tonight," you attempt to explain as you look up at him. He instantly frowns.
"Come on princess," he sighs. "Just me and you, and pleasure," he looks at you with gentle eyes and you shake your head.
"Not tonight," you retort and he drops his hand.
"Are you saying no?" He asks angrily.
"That's not what I'm saying, I'm saying not tonight. Tomorrow okay? Tomorrow for as long as you want," you assure him and he sighs.
"Fine," he hissed before storming out of your room. You sigh and sit on the bed. You lay back before curling into a ball, tears streaming down your face as you feel hopeless. You find yourself falling asleep, soon greeted by darkness as you fall asleep.
A few hours later you wake up and realize how dark it is out. You light a candle and stand up out of your bed. You notice a figure sitting on your stool by the canvas you had painted yesterday.
"Herrington?" You call out as you rub your eyes but as you approach the figure you realize it isn't your fiance, but a pirate. The man turns to look at you and it's just who you thought. Seonghwa. You gasp and stumble backward. Seonghwa chuckles as you stumble. "W-What-how? When?" You stutter as you come to. Seonghwa stands up and approaches you. He puts a finger over your lips with a gentle "shhh" escaping his lips.
He takes your free hand and holds it comfortingly. "Your fiance is sleeping next door right?" He asks in a low voice. You nod your head slowly. Seonghwa sighs and blows out your candle. He takes the candle and puts it on the nightstand. "Well, we can't have him hearing our conversation no?" He says as he walks over to your balcony. You follow him curiously and he leans over the edge of the balcony. He pulls a rope off of his waist and ties it around one of the bars on the balcony. He tugs it to make sure it's secure before hopping over the side, holding his body up with his leg. "I'll go down first and you'll follow after okay? If anything happens I'll catch you," he assures you, and your mind races with thoughts.
"You can't be serious," you say in disbelief.
"I'm serious baby," he says before sliding down. You look over the side of the balcony to see him standing with a smile. "C'mon," he calls out, and your heart races.
"No way, I can't do that!" You whisper yell to him.
"Yes you can, I'll catch you," he extends his arms out and you take a deep breath. This is insane, insane, insane. You grab the rope and pull yourself over the side you inch your way down before slipping. You let go of the rope and scream before falling into Seonghwas arms. Your heart racing a mile a minute. You cling to him as you pant. You slowly calm down and look up at him. He looks down at you with a soft smile and endearing eyes. You cleared your throat and jumped out of his arms. You dusted yourself off and looked up at him.
"Well, what did you want to talk about?" You cross your arms but he just takes your wrist in his hand.
"We're still too close. Cmon I know a good spot," he takes your hand before leading you to a beach not far behind the castle. He sits down on the sand and you look down at him. He leaned back with his arms holding him up, the wind blowing through his hair. "That feeling. The wind in my hair, the clarity of the air, the smell of the ocean. That's what I live for," Seonghwa smiles before inhaling deeply. You sit down next to him as he basks in the moonlight.
"Is that what you wanted to tell me?" You ask sarcastically and Seonghwa chuckles.
"No, no. I just wanted to see you," he smiles at you and you scoff.
"All of this? To see me," you roll your eyes and look up at the stars.
"Do you know how to swim?" He asks abruptly.
"No. Women don't swim," you say as you look at the reflection of the moon on the water.
"The women on my crew do," he smirks at you before standing up, suddenly undressing.
"Oh god," you cover your eyes as you hear him take off his belt and vest.
"So dramatic," he rolls his eyes as he puts his hand on his hip. "You think I'm going to strip in front of you?" He chuckles before taking off his boots.
"Strip?" You ask confused by his choice of words.
"It means get naked," he scoffs before extending his hand out to you. You blush before taking his hand. He pulls you up and he looks you up and down. He then takes you to the shore. Your feet in the shallow water.
"It's cold!" You jumped and Seonghwa laughed. "Why are you doing this?!" You say as you pull your hand out of his.
"Because it's fun and you deserve to have fun," he says before pushing you into deeper water.
"Wait! I can't swim!" You try to stop him from pushing you.
"I'll hold you, don't worry," he says as he pulls you into his embrace. The water creeps up to your thighs as the waves gently push up against you. You put your hand down into the water and feel the cold wager tingle against your fingertips. "See. It's okay," he says as he holds you close. He treads a bit deeper into the water and you go with him, the water creeping up to your waist. "Now lift up your legs," he says with a smile.
"Why?" You ask confused.
"Just lift them and don't try to hold them up, like you're laying down. I'll hold you," he says as he holds your upper body. You lift up your legs and relax the muscles in your legs and you float a little. Your eyes widen.
"What? This is crazy," you laugh as you watch your legs sway in the movement of the water. He then lets your body go and you stand up in the water again. You look up at him surprised as the water raises up to your chest, he holds your arms securing you from the waves. He looks up at the moon and your eyes follow. He pulls you close to his chest and you hear his heart racing.
"Every night on my ship, when I look up I see this treasure," Seonghwa raises his hand up to the moon. His eyes flutter back down before noticing a glow coming from your chest. He looks down to see your necklace glowing as it moves with the waves.
