So I've been cooking up some alternate outfit ideas for my Lmk sona and this is what they'd look like if they were with the Demon Bull Family! The idea is basically they'd be something of a court musician but it's mainly just a title.

I don't have a concrete story but the initial idea was that cas was friends with swk in the brotherhood days and stuck with dbk after everyone else got sealed away and the whole consumption incident went down since she had nowhere else to go (and conveniently was the only lady around that he could ask for relationship advice when courting Iron Fan). They didn't expect Cas to live this long, only really expecting to have her around through her natural lifespan but they noticed she wasn't aging so now she gets to be their babysitter for date nights! Through the years she's been something of an aunt/sister figure and has become fiercely loyal to the family despite having no desire to take over the world. Redson built her electric bass and the armor she wears over her gems, the Bass has 2 extra buttons on it- the fire button spews fire out of the pipes and the Bull button unsheathes her sword from the neck of the instrument since she can't exactly walk around with a sword on her hip so easy these days. She travels with a heavy metal band across the continent- i like to imagine her intro episode has the crew excited about a big band coming to the city and while they wait they run into redson and annoy him cause he's bragging about getting exclusive vip passes to the show. The crew would expect someone mean from the music and the from the rest of the family but Cas is super welcoming and nice when the crew sneak backstage to bother redson some more XD

HAHAHAHA—no. I like watching it and studying it! I love analyzing character design but drawing it? I’m being held at gunpoint

When it comes to OCs I have to design them otherwise it’s hard to get the point across as to who I’m talking about, how their design translates via text, etc. when it comes to, say, Erlang and Sun Wukong it means a lot of character analysis and figuring out whether or not their outfits work… and then realizing the limits of my skills (I hate armor but armor is VERY MUCH in character for these two designs)

I tend to do SOME form of research into my character designs — this ranges from looking at the original sources (FSYY, JTTW) and then modern depictions of them (Nezha Reborn/New Gods, Dyslite (?), Lego Monkie Kid, etc) and studying how their designs work.

I love New Gods rendition of Erlang but that reads more to me like a.. teenager? Young adult? Version of Erlang rather than the aged post-fsyy soldier we see often depicted in JTTW content

I also have a lot of story telling done with color for their outfits:

You can see hints of green for Wukong (Nuwa) and how there’s bits of red in his hanfu — but it’s not overpowering. You can still see gold and even in his makeup there’s teal. You can tell this is SWK in an outfit that was coordinated to suit him for a specific area/god/etc.

But then with Erlang we see him engulfed in red. The same type of red that resembles wine or drying blood because this is an outfit that (ahem) Su Daji picks out for him. The only bit of gold is the belt/sash holding it all together. This, along with the jade skin and dark blue hair, makes it seem like he’s not human. That’s the point! He’s a demigod and he’s often depicted with unnatural skin color (at least in animated versions):

And then of course there’s accessories! We have Sun Wukong’s iconic cudgel and honestly LMK’s design of it is already very well done that I don’t feel the need to adjust it for my au.. so instead I designed him a mask:

This allows for some of his personality to shine through more! And it is far more intimidating than canon!lmk!swk!!

To put it simply: I don’t like character designing because it is VERY hard for me to translate my thoughts onto a canvas but I enjoy the finished results (most of the time) too much to not try and do it. That and when it comes to my favorite characters I will ALWAYS have fun designing outfits for them 🧡

+Bonus outfit and color ref Character for a kind of OC AU where three kids get stuck dealing with the aftermath of the events of Lego Monkie Kid (a year later).

She is based on a Gibbon :) I added the macaque coloring because hehe silly heart on face. She probably does it with makeup to look like her older brother figure (a friend's OC).

She originated in the Celestial Realm, and identifies the most with that specific group, but she has a lot of internalized confusion because she has a lot of trauma inside of her.

Hi…um…I hope you don’t mind me asking but about the cloths Macaque/Liu Er and Xiaotian get dressed in by Wukong in the Little Brother au, theoretically if they where able to regain their minds fully and see what Wukong put them in, how would they react?

Hi! Sorry these are taking a while, I'm kinda swamped with work and school right now, but have a few thoughts!

so some general ideas for outfits are HERE and if I could draw I would sketch some stuff but I can't so I leave it up to people's imagination ;n.n

So if somehow the two of them suddenly 'woke up' as if the brainwashing/mental regression never happened things would be... complicated, to say the least. The reaction to the clothes would honestly be the easiest thing for them to think about, and would probably be taken as a sort of outlet for the rest of the complicated emotions they were dealing with.

With Macaque he's obviously a bit bitter, but also confused. The silks are... well they're beautiful. They're royal, something Macaque never saw himself as, not really. He was just the tag-along, the extra, the King's 'shadow'. He wasn't anything special in his eyes. But this would make it clear that he was, at least as far as his Brother was concerned. But the whole thing would be a sort of angry bittersweet, because the stuff SWK's put him in... isn't him. It's not colors he likes wearing, it's not something practical for him to move and fight in it's.... ornamental. It shows that he was valued but not understood.

A part of Macaque wants to burn the things he wakes up in. He can't get himself to do it though.

Xiaotian is complicated in an entirely different way. Because this isn't even close to anything he has ever had or worn, but at the same time it... They're incredible and fancy and cool and maybe he might have daydreamed about stuff like this once, about being taken away to FFM and being a Prince there but... but it's not him. It's basically a reinvention of himself, with nothing really tying back to who he was except that it's in his colors and with patterns and designs he really does like so it is him.

Someone taking his personality and inserting it into an entirely new context.

Xiaotian can't get himself to get rid of the clothes either, but he had friends that are more than happy to make them disappear for him.

Ink and Bone AU update

First of all: reworking MK's design. No sketch yet.

Chinese dragons don't have wings, and I bet MK would have turned into one if he could so I'm pretty sure he can only turn into mortal animals. So they get replaced with Cicada wings.

The main concept for this idea is that he turns into animals he associates with his friends:

Pig hooves for Pigsy (back legs)

Cicada wings for Tang

Random scales and sharp fangs for Mei

And Sandy doesn't really have any visible non-human characteristics beyond Big and Blue so MK gets cat ears because Mo.

Besides that, he gets stuff from his kaiju form. 3 tails, sharp claws, long hair. Fur stays dark brown but eyes glow blue due to possession.

His clones also get mutated, but they draw on more from the powers he absorbed rather than going full chimera. Still get some kaiju characteristics tho.

Porty: takes more after LBD, wears a horse skull instead of rave shades and his outfit looks more like he got murdered in very over the top fancy winter clothes. I'm talking a whole ink-stained fur coat here. Long hair, fangs, sharp claws, tail is a lot more fluffy, think snow leopard levels of fluff. White hair.

Painter: takes after the ink curse, constantly melting and shapeshifting, but unlike the ink he has colors. Usually settles into having a monkey tail, medium length hair, and tattoo-like markings all over his skin. His hair and fur are black.

Delivery: takes after SWK and Mac, not all that different from monkey MK if it wasn't for the height. He is taller than DBK and gets bigger when upset. Hair is just a bit longer and has 2 tails and 4 arms.

Apocalipse: the only one to go full chimera like MK, but based on his enemies rather than friends. Imagine a spider centaur. His ears are pointed like the gold and silver demons', and there are glowing, moving bandages on the human parts of his body, like Mac's smoke monster. Arms are furred and resemble DBK's, though not as jacked. Hair stays the same lenght, but gains a purple-ish tint.

#what is the lore. no one ever asks me. I sigh in relief because thank god I don't have to get into All Of That right now then

my friend @p1nkp0nkk asked for. the lore. so here I am writing a post of unknown to me length about this so venera here is actually connected to some other lmk ocs I've made before ; you don't really need to know anything about them to understand her so I'm not going to explain that beyond necessary. v is part of the same family of shapeshifters as most of them (think family as in the way someone may say the canine family. not as in the nuclear kind) and that's a big reason why her form is the way it is. most shapeshifter families kind of take after eachother (venera is a large outlier since most of the others have brown/red coloration, she has. purple/blue/magenta.) to varying degrees depending on how close they are together. it's like. if your friend has a cool jacket and you ask where they got it, except they instead of a jacket it's something like facial structure and also they usually don't ask and just kind of morph their face slowly so no one notices unless side by side photo comparisons are made. the family situation is like ; oldest is modeled after wukong. middle is modeled after the oldest so they look less like wukong and more like the oldest. youngest is modeled after the oldest + swk directly, actually. and v models after all of them BUT also takes some inspo from macaque. though how and why I haven't worked out yet though. I have no idea where she fits on the tree of oldest to youngest but she's probably somewhere on there. probably. I kind of lied earlier when I said I wouldn't need to get super into the entire lore to explain v because she's quite literally. mostly based off of their lore right now. as I made her literally an hour ago. other funfacts though I have pinned down ; on the scale of "what fruit of choice are you going to be forever stuck with because for some reason your family decided you're all going to be celestial monkeys and for some reason they have a theme going on" v ranks out solidly on nectarine. + v is allergic to peaches because I'm allergic to peaches and she's a sona but also because I think it's funny that v is modeled after macaque and literally cannot physically eat peaches. hooked nose (not very obvious in picture itself) and wears the same outfit. practically forever. which isn't that weird considering apparently swk has been wearing his. outfit. for hundreds of years now

some BM stuff set in @wolfcamellias‘s burning masks au, we spoke a bunch about it and he tells me after swk and macaque go kaiju form macaques clothes turn into bandages, and expects me not to want to draw it?? we think swks clothes turn into golden armour but before he gets that perfected he just makes a blanket out of hair. for some reason i feel like BM maq would be a lot more high energy after a fight, where swk is just fed up. also outfits. in BM swk loses a lot of color in his outfit whereas maq gets the contrast flashy fits. lots of detailed layers and he needs more armour (you mentioned fancy lunar outfit for maq and my brain went :0)

Rong Naoyuan Reference Sheet (+design notes under the cut)

- the outfit is based on this, i was looking for a hanfu associated with archery while still being easier to draw. the only bit i changed was making the collar & sash green to add some color, though i might change the design even more in the future

- with the facial marking, i noticed in the show that swk and macaque's are different in both color and shape- swk's is rounder like a peach or superhero mask, and macaque's is sharper at the edges (likely to symbolize him being sharper/more abrasive as well). i tossed around a couple different ideas for rny, including more of a heart shape, but eventually settled on a more cloudlike design- both because it looked good, and to symbolize how rny is a rather relaxed and go-with-the-flow type person

- rny is an archer, and i didn't draw it here because it was too many moving pieces but they do have the waist quiver pictured in the reference linked above

- i’ve been giving them lego hands because it's easier to draw than real hands, and my usual approach is to just make all hands lumps but i'm trying out a new artstyle to get closer to the show's without actually full on drawing legos :'

- originally, i was going to make the fur light/medium brown. the examples i was working with had black (macaque) and orange (swk) fur respectively, and i didn't want to associate too strongly visually with one or the other since rny is meant to be a fairly neutral party in their feud. after that i considered blond bc of a picture of a monkey i found & wanted to use as inspiration, but after messing around on heroforge to make a preliminary design that will never see the light of day i decided i liked the grey both aesthetically and as an indicator that while not aligned with macaque, rny still had the potential to be morally darker than swk

- if you look closely at the hair tie, it's actually a woven braid. this has lore- each strand represents one of the demon monkeys (swk, macaque, and rny) and was created back before shit happened and they all fell apart. rny still wears it despite centuries having elapsed to symbolize that they haven't rejected or given up on the past the way the others have (though, to be fair, they're unaware of a lot of what Exactly went down between the other two)

- it was a toss-up between giving them shoes or having them be barefoot, but in the end i went with shoes because i don’t know how to draw monkey’s paws from that angle and the shoe design was simpler (also, i’m pretty sure the other two wear shoes in the show so)

- originally i was just going to give them the same hairstyle as the other two, since commonalities between their designs are generally where i’ve been drawing the ‘monkey’ aspects from, but i wanted the hair tie and the simplest way to include it was a ponytail so :’ i decided fuck it my city now monkeys can have long fur

At this point LBD's confirmed to be obsessed with perfection in the world. It would only make sense that after getting control she changed their outward appearance to something more her liking.

And it's not only that because clothing in cartoons is very important. It's rare a character changes their outfit, and their clothes are a part of them, so to speak. In lmk changing clothes is usually a result of a significant change within the person themself or their situation. (Think Mk losing both his jackets (note: both of which were yellow, SWK's color) and SWK getting his outfit destroyed in s2, then deciding to take responsibility for LBD and getting his fit back in the special.).

Her changing their clothes is an erasure of the person themselves. She's sort of symbolically taking away them as a person, and, as a result, whatever imperfection they've inflicted on the world.

I know this whole situation is serious but the fact that the first thing LBD does offscreen after gaining control of someone is give them a new fit is too funny to not comment on.

Also:

I didn't notice this on the first watch, but under SWK's armor is his original clothing.

So, he could've changed anytime he got his powers back (he built a fully functional rocket ship for christ's sake, he can definitely change his clothes if he feels like it). As such I choose to believe that he continued to wear the journey outfit in most of s3 for nostalgia's sake.

I know i'm the one who suggested the idea in the first place but i'm on a BIG comic kick rn so i have some thoughts that may be valuable:

For Pigsy's alias, i think it depends mostly on if he's going with human disguise or normal pig form when going out crime fighting. I think it would probably be easier for him to go out in human form, on the level of people would be EXPECTING a demon to use their real form while fighting and save their human form for a secret identity, so playing on assumptions. But since he also came into this on accident it could be that he does actually use his human form casually and maybe it fell off during those first few outings bc adrenaline is a hell of a drug.

But the thing is, since he's a vigilante not a hero then he probably didn't get to pick his name, he probably just started going by the most common thing people would call him back when he was still in the 'urban legend' state of notoriety. So if he's in Pig form then it's probably something thematically appropriate like 'Wild Boar' whereas there's probably more ambiguous options for if he was in human form, if the city still is human in majority then it's still probably considered a 'blank slate' form of being. In which case a more classic-if-bland sounding hero name would probably come about, That's where you get stuff like 'Obscurus' since no one can ever get a look at the man's face, it's obscure. 'The Shadow' or 'Void' if the main color in the outfit is black, stuff like that.

I think you could get away with Pigsy using ZBJ's rake if you go with the idea of 'ZBJ had a big adopted family before dying and the rake was given to them to honor their fallen patriarch, and so it got passed down to Pigsy eventually' but also the idea of SWK sealing away DBK with his staff and then continuing the fight with ZBJ's rake FUCKING HURTS so what do i know lmao

I’m realizing there are four ways the hero/vigilante peachbun au could go with SWK’s weapon.

First, he could have sealed DBK then used ZBJ’s rake as a way to remember him, almost like having him at his side again. Second, he didn’t seal DBK and just kept his staff while he keeps ZBJ’s rake safe. Third, he uses both of them. Or fourth, he doesn’t use one or picks up a third weapon.

There is a fifth option where Pigsy has the rake but I don’t know what the reasons could be yet because I would imagine SWK or Sandy keep it. It could make SWK hate Pigsy further when they encounter each other.

Also I need to come with superhero names for them, if anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

SWK is just SWK, his human form has a different name. He still has the surname Sun because if I remember that’s a somewhat common name in China, still need to find out the characters of his first name. Also Sandy doesn’t really participate in heroic antics I think because he’s a peace maker unless he’s just support. Tang, idk yet, we’ll see
