I may not own a cat, but I do have a dog and I am childless, so the sentiment is there. 😄 Of course I had to make this after Taylor’s official endorsement. If you like it, it’s available on a variety of merch in my Redbubble store right now!
It's so amazing to hear Kamala Harris speak. During her speech last night at the DNC, as she is accepting the nomination, she mentions that she will put our country over party. She will put Americans over herself. There will be a peaceful transition of power if she is elected and becomes president. There's so much optimism within her.
I've been waiting to feel this way about a political candidate for a long, long time.
Harris definitely could have answered questions about policies better, however after thinking about it a little more I think I have an idea of why she didn't.
She had two options:
Talk about her policies and beliefs, and allow Trump to basically do the same thing he did during the last debate, which was to calmly spew out his rehearsed lies and bullshit without sending up any red flags.
Forego direct answers to poke the dragon in the eye, rile him up and show the American people who they're voting for instead of trying to just tell them. She opted to get under his skin and expose him, showing the people who praised him during the last debate how he fares against a (no offense Biden) capable opponent.
I mean, she poked him into a ridiculous, unhinged rant about people eating pets in Springfield Smithfield? What? I was watching the whole time, I was (regrettably) sober and I still could not even begin to make heads or tails of that tangent. Frankly, I'll call that a win.
Nobody watching this to support Trump is wanting or expecting policy from him. And I think she made a calculated guess that undecided voters will be more likely to be swayed by him coming unglued than her talking policy.
Literally how. You could have used the argument (somewhat) with Joe Biden vs Trump or with other political candidates in the running, but Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are nowhere near the same.
Trump is not for women's rights. Don't even get me started on the whole "grab them by the p*ssy" thing. Or the way he talks about his female colleagues and family members.
Trump is not for combating climate change. He's just a friend to the wealthy bastards making money off fossil fuels. Nothing more.
Oh, and if you want to bring up the Palestinian genocide, don't bother. Trump is allllll for that too. You think he's not in Lockheed Martin's pockets? You're joking.
Kamala Harris as an amazing resume perfectly lined with protecting and advocating for human rights. She has publicly called for a ceasefire. She is a proponent for the Green New Deal for Christ's sake.
Don't you dare claim these two people are the same.
It has come to my attention that many people are saying that a bunch of young women are only joining the "Swifties For Kamala Harris" groups because we are all dumb Taylor fans without valid political beliefs. Let me clear the air on this:
When a group has the name "(Celebrity/fandom) for (Political Candidate)", it is purely a way to garner support and mobilization for said political candidate. Taylor Swift herself has yet to endorse Kamala Harris, for the record.
"A bunch of dumb girls are gonna vote for whoever sparkly blonde lady says to vote for" is an incredibly sexist belief to have.
If you are a Swiftie and supporting Kamala Harris, I don't want you to do so because a celebrity endorses her, or because she has funny memes, or a group like Swifties For Harris told you to, I want you to genuinely support her and her campaign because she's the best candidate for the job.
On this blog's team, we are supporting Kamala's campaign because she is a qualified candidate that can bring comprehensive change for all American people. She isn't a radical. She can actually work with people on both sides of the isle without abandoning her progressive values. She's an LGBTQ ally and always has been. She supports women's rights and reproductive rights. She co-sponsored the Green New Deal. She's an ally to worker's unions. She has a clean political track record. She's eloquent, educated, and her political collogues respect her.
So again, let's not bring that sexist rhetoric around here. Maybe do some soul searching if you think that young women can only politically support someone over shallow reasons.
