Sunday 28/04/24
It was a packed out crisp club this week, with a whopping three bags to sample!
Tumblr media
Alas, I didn't manage to get pictures of the first two, which were a Romanian paprika Wotsit-style crisp and something called Naughty Tomato, but I did snap a pic of the pickled plum. Even more alas, they were the most disappointing. The not!Wotsits were nice, despite not giving much paprika, and the Naughty Tomato were indeed naughty and spicy, but the pickled plum just tasted like a slightly sour Worcestershire sauce. Still, it's been a while since we've had a bad crisp. They can't all be bangers.

5 Famous Foods to Try in Kyoto
Traditional culinary culture has flourished in Kyoto, and you may get a taste of history with Japanese course meals prepared as part of a traditional tea ceremony and vegetarian cuisine influenced by Chinese Buddhism.
The town's local cuisine (Kyo-ryori) is colorful and visually appealing, thanks to the expertise of Japanese chefs. Everyone should have the opportunity to sample traditional Japanese cuisine in the stately setting of Kyoto at least once in their lives. Of course, fantastic food at reasonable costs is available.
We've compiled a list of some of the top local cuisines and budget-friendly treats that Kyoto residents enjoy daily.
Yudof (Boiled tofu):
Perhaps no food represents Kyoto more than you. It contains only tofu, water, kelp, and a dipping sauce. The kelp is put in the bottom of a stewpot, filled with tofu and water, and simmered. Tofu is scooped up and served with a dipping sauce, typically a ponzu soy sauce-based vinaigrette.
Hamo (Conger eel)
The spikey-toothed hamo (conger eel) is a difficult adversary to deal with. Small bones span the length of its slim body. Chefs make half-cuts into the filleted meat to make it tasty - 24 cuts within each three-centimeter span. Hamo can be boiled, grilled, deeply fried, and even used in shabu-shabu or nabe stew. Cold, boiled ham served with a tart ume (plum) sauce is especially popular in the summer.
Tsukemono (Japanese pickles)
Before the refrigerator, Japan kept its vegetables by pickling them in salt. When Kyoto was chosen as the nation's capital in 794, a slew of items from Japan began to arrive in Kyoto and at the imperial court. Local artisans attempted to refine these products, resulting in a varied range of Kyoto crafts, including tsukemono.
Kyoto's top tsukemono are three types of pickles: shibazuke, senmaizuke, and sugizuke. Shibazuke is a sour and crunchy pickled mixture of sliced cucumber and eggplant with scarlet shiso (perilla or beefsteak plant). Shiso turns the ingredients pink.
Matcha
Kyoto is a beautiful place to explore matcha because it is the birthplace of the tea ceremony. You may get frothy green tea at many tea shops on temple grounds or in popular tourist places, with or without the ceremony. In Japan, matcha is the most acceptable type of green tea. To improve its color, flavor, fragrance, and nutritional value, it is made from tea leaves cultivated under certain circumstances, dried, and ground in a similar environment. Everything here adds to the sensory experience of drinking matcha.
Matcha is also delightful in its various modern guises, like soft-serve ice cream, cake, biscuits, and crackers, which can be found around Kyoto.
Yatsuhashi
Yatsuhashi is the most famous Kyoto souvenir sweet. It's created of rice flour, sugar, and Nikki, a type of Japanese cinnamon. Warming the dough before shaping it into a thin, half-pipe form and baking it results in crisp, slightly challenging cookies that resemble little brown roof tiles. Since 1689, this type of yatsuhashi has been around.
Matcha and sesame tastes, as well as more recent additions like chocolate and banana, are available in addition to the traditional cinnamon flavor.

Trading Favors
Summary: It starts with a chocolate eclair and ends with angel and demon trading favors back and forth while Crowley tries to figure out what he could offer that would be worth his angel making love to him. (2110 words)
Notes: Written to include @drawlight's '31 Days of Ineffables' prompt 'caroling', along with a few others. No sexual content - just a lot of warm fuzzies and some dancing at the end :)
Read on AO3.
“Goodness gracious I would give my left arm for a chocolate éclair!” Aziraphale sighs, his cheek meeting his palm when he props his elbow on his desk, the rest of his body sinking so completely into the gesture he looks nearly boneless.
“Isn’t that vivid? You could always miracle yourself one,” Crowley suggests, less than helpfully since he knows how Aziraphale feels about miracled food.
“Yes, but it’s never quite the same.”
“So you keep saying,” Crowley mutters into his partially drunk glass of merlot. He’s only had the one, poured more out of lack of anything better to do than actual want for inebriation.
Crowley’s in a bit of a pickle.
He wants to hang out with Aziraphale. More than anything. That’s why he came over. Doing nothing here in Aziraphale’s bookshop is preferable to doing nothing alone in his dark, empty flat.
But he’s bored.
So bored that the thought of getting up off the sofa he’s planted on and getting his angel an éclair sounds close to a grand adventure. But he can’t make it seem like Aziraphale is the one doing him a favor. He wants something out of it for himself, and an éclair doesn’t appeal to him right now.
Decisions, decisions, decisions …
He takes a sip to deliberate over - a kiss of alcohol against his lips to warm his mouth. It doesn’t quite do the trick since it’s barely a mouthful and he swallows too quickly. He licks his lips at the same time Aziraphale licks his, and smiles when he thinks of something that could warm him better.
“If I went down to the bakery and got one for you, can I have kiss?”
Aziraphale perks up, turning towards his husband and raising intrigued eyebrows. “What kind of kiss?”
Crowley shrugs – a jumble of uncoordinated joints moving independently of their owner. “Just a kiss.”
“Where?”
“Oh … well … I was thinking … on the lips?”
Aziraphale chews on Crowley’s offer while he nibbles his lower lip. He’s not about to say no, of course. A chocolate éclair for the price of a kiss? That’s two treats in one! Only an idiot would turn that down!
But he can’t let it seem like Crowley is doing him that big a favor.
He fakes a yawn while he pretends to think, bouncing his eyebrows nonchalantly.
“All right,” he says. “If it’s not too much trouble, that is.”
“No, no. No trouble at all.”
“Then it’s a deal.”
***
“You know what I could go for right now?”
“Mmm,” Aziraphale hums around a generous bite of light pastry and thick cream, but with the smooth finish of merlot-flavored kisses clinging to his tongue, “what?”
“A glass of Midwinter Nights Dram.”
“Oh my!” Aziraphale chuckles after a swallow. “I haven’t had a glass of that in ages!”
“Yeah. Warmed up on many a cold night with that stuff …” Crowley gazes dreamily up at the vaulted ceilings of the bookshop as though his last memories of throwing back a bottle of Christmas whiskey is floating there amongst the beams. If he had a bottle, he could more than likely persuade Aziraphale to share it with him. Then maybe, just maybe, he could beg another kiss off his husband.
Alcohol on his husband’s breath, he has happily discovered, tastes much better than from the mouth of a bottle.
Aziraphale chews the end of his éclair, thoughtfully watching his husband go silent, eyelids closed, a peculiar smile bunching his cheeks. “If I happen to have a bottle,” Aziraphale says, “could I bother you to help me with a chore?”
One of Crowley’s eyelids pops open, fast enough to compete with the speed of light. “What chore?”
“Move a few things upstairs?”
Crowley looks disappointed, but not enough to turn Aziraphale down. “How many things?”
“A dozen. Maybe less. But they can’t be miracled upstairs. They’re magic sensitive. They have to be carried.”
Crowley wonders if one of those items could include his angel but decides not to ask. “Sure, all right. If you have it.”
Aziraphale reaches underneath his desk. His hand goes straight for a cabinet by his knee, opens it, and pulls out the exact bottle Crowley was thinking of. Without even shifting his gaze to check, Aziraphale holds the bottle up for Crowley to see, and gives it a teasing shake. “Is this what you were hoping for?”
Crowley grins. He had no doubt Aziraphale had it. If he didn’t, Aziraphale would have miracled it up.
Which puts Crowley in line for another kiss, one that tastes of plum pudding, mulling spices, dried fruit, and vanilla.
But also Principality.
Crowley rises eagerly from the sofa, reaching for the bottle, but Aziraphale pulls it out of reach.
“Work first,” he says, setting the bottle back in its cabinet, impish grin twisting the corner of his mouth. “Drink afterward.”
Crowley, left reaching, his hand still hovering in the air, saunters sideways, eyeballing his flirt of a husband. He flexes his fingers and smacks his lips - his mouth dry, craving a hundred Christmas-flavored kisses. And they wouldn’t need to be on his angel’s lips. Midwinter Nights Dram would go great anywhere – Aziraphale’s shoulders, his spine, the bend of his elbow, the soft skin behind his knee … “I’d better get started.”
***
“Oh blast!” Aziraphale erupts, snapping Crowley out of his mellow dwam supplied by his second glass of whiskey.
“Wot?”
“I was supposed to have this book wrapped up and ready to ship before two!” Aziraphale says, glaring at a leather-bound book resting beneath his right hand as if it’s a rodent he’d killed days before that has somehow returned from the grave.
“And …?”
“It’s 3:15! How in the Hell did I miss the post man?” Aziraphale twists in his chair, looking out the window in search of him, to check if, by any luck, he might still be around. “I’m going to have to run it down to the post office myself!”
“Whatever for?”
“I really need it to go out today!”
Crowley is going to take it for him. He knows he will. It’s the husbandly thing to do.
Still …
He looks at his glass of whiskey and frowns.
He’d gotten the drink he wanted but he’s yet to get another kiss. He thought he might be on the road to getting one. Aziraphale had asked for a glass of whiskey. Things were looking bright.
There it is, on his desk, untouched.
Crowley assumes he’d been reaching for it, which is how he stumbled across the book.
It’s sitting directly in the path his hand was traveling to reach his glass.
Damn!
Crowley doesn’t want to outright ask for another kiss, especially not now. He might end up with a peck on the cheek and no more talk about it. He wants to work up to it, tempt it out of his husband … and possibly a little more.
“If I take care of it, can I get a shoulder rub?” Crowley asks, rolling his right shoulder. “Humpin’ all that stuff upstairs (nngh!) really put a strain on the old muscles.”
Aziraphale rolls his eyes but agrees, “Absolutely.”
“A shirtless shoulder rub?”
Aziraphale manages to look unamused and amused at the same time. “You shirtless? Or me shirtless?”
“I’d prefer both of us shirtless, but just me is fine.”
And despite being in front of the eight ball, Aziraphale’s eyes sparkle at the thought. “Then I’d say, in this case, we both get a reward. Chip-chop! Hurry up!”
***
God rest ye merry, gentlemen Let nothing you dismay Remember, Christ, our Saviour Was born on Christmas day To save us all from Satan's power When we were gone astray
“Ugh!” Aziraphale’s head drops to his desk, his forehead making a soft thump when it connects with the wood.
“What?” Crowley asks, lounging on Aziraphale’s sofa with his feet up and his head lolling off the cushions, his manhandled muscles melting into the sumptuous, velvety fabric. His shirt made it back on but barely, the buttons undone down the front, his skin tingling in the winter chill.
“We have carolers!”
“I know!” Crowley groans sympathetically. “And they’re singing the worst Christmas song ever! I wouldn’t say Christ saved the humans from Satan. It was more of a draw.”
“I am not in the mood right now!” Aziraphale snaps into his paperwork.
“Oh. Sorry.”
“Not you. Them!”
“Oh.” Immediately seeing an opportunity, Crowley shimmies up on the sofa. “What will you give me if I take care of them for you?”
“What do you want?” Aziraphale moans pathetically.
Crowley leans forward, relaying his request in a husky tone he prays might put him back on track towards seducing his husband. “Dance with me, angel?”
“Yes, all right,” Aziraphale agrees without a single thought, no objection whatsoever, aided by an offensively sour soprano note that might have come about with a hint of demonic assistance. “Just … get rid of them!”
“Will do!” Crowley launches out of his seat and hurries towards the door, but halfway there, he stops. “Promise not to question my methods?”
“Yes, of course. Just … please …”
“On it.”
Aziraphale sighs with relief, lifting his head and straightening the papers on his desk. That’s when he realizes – he sent a demon to get rid of Christmas carolers … and he gave him carte blanche on how to do it! “Wait a minute!” He pushes away from his desk and hops to his feet, following Crowley to the front door. “Hold up! Crowley? What do you intend to …?”
But the familiar growl and shrill screams coming from outside his shop tell him he asked a second too late.
***
At last My love has come along My lonely days are over And life is like a song …
The vintage vinyl spins smoothly under the needle of Aziraphale’s gramophone as he sways slowly with his husband, in the circle of his arms. He inhales deep, his demon smelling bitter and sweet: of cloves and spice, whiskey and wine, cranberry and chestnut, of crisp winter air and the new falling snow from when he stepped out the door and, for a split second, transformed into a monstrous, fire-breathing serpent to clear away the carolers.
Aziraphale didn’t entirely approve of this technique, but he can’t help himself giggling at how a dozen men, women, and children dressed in matching red tartan shirts and wearing wool pompom hats leapt five feet and scattered like mice in a dark room with the lights flicked on. But Aziraphale made sure to bless them as they ran, made certain that little Ryan Weathers would find that bike he wants under his tree, that Molly Stevens would get the game system she asked for (seeing as she was nearly trampled by, of all people, her mum), that Pastor Dorney (the leader of the gang) would find an uptick in attendance at his small church on Christmas morning, along with donations, and on and on. Maybe Aziraphale wasn’t in the mood for carolers at the time, but he can’t blame them for their service. They were only trying to spread Christmas cheer, after all.
Considering the cynical times they live in, it’s truly a noble cause.
Aziraphale hugs his husband tight and Crowley reciprocates. But they’ve been dancing for half an hour and Crowley hasn’t said a word. Aziraphale doesn’t think he feels guilty about what he’s done, but he is curious.
“You sure have gone quiet,” Aziraphale points out, peeking up at his husband, a hair’s breath from his lips. “Still mulling over the frightened faces of those poor carolers you scared down the street?”
“No,” Crowley replies, but a tiny smile slips onto his face. “Well, yes, but … I guess I’m just wondering …”
“Hmm? What?”
“What I have to do to get you to make love to me.”
Aziraphale smiles. “My dear boy. You don’t need to do anything. Just ask.”
“Really?”
“Really. Making love isn’t something you need to trade favors for. It’s something I enjoy. I hope you know that.”
“I do.”
“Good.”
Aziraphale presses a kiss to Crowley’s cheek and rests his head on his husband’s shoulder. They continue to sway, caught in the spell of Etta James’s rich contralto voice, till it hits Crowley that he may not need to do anything, but there still may be something he can do for his enamored angel.
Because he loves him.
“And another éclair?” he asks.
Aziraphale rolls adoring eyes up at his demon. “One for after would be lovely.”
Crowley kisses Aziraphale on the forehead. “I’ve got you covered.”

𝙂𝙞𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙙 🍗 In a good court revolution which happened in @westfieldlondon last year, @seoulbirduk are the latest addition to the line up. It’s a new project from @judyjoochef, who you’ve most likely seen on tv, specialising in crispy Korean chicken. The chicken comes 2 ways; fried or flame grilled. Then you’ve got your choice of thigh, wing, or tenders. We went fried, and was very impressed with not only the quality of the chicken, but the crispness and flavour. This is then only improved even more by their homemade sauces, and we tried gochujang, sweet garlic soy, honey mustard, and Yuzu mayo. I wish I could pick a favourite, but honestly every dip was as good as the next. There’s a whole load of tots too, so we went for K-Tots, which are topped with cheese, kimchi, hot sauce, sour cream, red onion, pickled jalapeños, and coriander. Again, SO GOOD, but it was a hard choice over the truffle tots. Their homemade Korean iced tea was a big favourite of mine too. There’s green plum and ginger, and Yuzu green tea, which was my favourite. £3 is amazing value and I’ll probably be having one daily on my lunch break. There’s so much more to the menu that I didn’t try. There’s Seoul Bowls, kimchi Mac and cheese, Korean fried cauliflower, and more. You’ll definitely need 2 trips. . . . . . #koreanfoods #koreanfood #koreanfoodlover #koreanfriedchicken #kfc #westfield #westfieldlondon #friedchicken #seoulkorea #seoulfood #kimchi #soy #chickenthighs #chickentenders #londonfood #londonfoodspots #londonfoodguide #londonfoodie #londonfoodblog #londonfoodblogger #londonlife #londoneats #londonist #londonguru #chickenwings (at Seoul Bird) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDnuHmBHTOz/?igshid=chg4yxmt9042

How to use the vacuum glass container
We're just over half a month away from the Chinese New Year in 2022! For the Chinese, the importance of the Chinese New Year cannot be overstated, and the Chinese New Year movement is something that foreigners are shocked to think is a major migration event. Due to the recent New Crown Pneumonia epidemic, although the government is advocating spending New Year's Eve locally, if you are one of those who spend it away from home, I'm sure you will be receiving packages of all sizes from your mum one after another. With so much food including cooked food, preserved food and grains, how do you store it all? I'll teach you a trick. The vacuum food storage containers is enough.
I. Food
These include grains such as rice, cornmeal, millet, soybeans, chickpeas, browns, red beans, black beans, peas, barley grains and so on. When you buy them, it is best to dry them first and then put them in a vacuum storage box, in a low temperature, dry and light-proof place, or put in desiccant if possible, to keep them for a longer time.
Processed food such as bread, steamed buns, rolls, bun pies, doughnuts, oil cakes, cakes and other processed food, if stored for more than 3 days, should be placed in a fresh box and then put in the refrigerator for freezing.
II. Meat
Fresh meat must be frozen and it is difficult to store large quantities at home. You can save part of the fresh meat in a fresh box and then put it in the fridge to freeze, and part through processing, such as curing, smoking, roasting and other processing to increase the storage capacity.
Fresh meat made into bacon, salami, air (baked) dried meat, sauced meat, barbecued pork, meat sausages, luncheon meat and jerky is massively reduced in size, making it easier to store and preserve into vacuum fresh boxes. Plastic food containers manufacturers should be careful in their selection.
III. Vegetables and fruits
1. leafy vegetables: they can be made into dried or powdered vegetables by various methods such as air-drying, drying, baking, salting, candied, vinegared, dried, etc., such as dried cabbage, spinach powder, sweet and sour garlic, sugar ginger, dried plum vegetables, etc.
2. Root vegetables: pickled, salted, dried, fried and other methods of treatment. For example, they can be made into kimchi, sauerkraut, dried radish, pickled cucumber, onion crisps, dried sweet potatoes, potato chips, etc.
3. Fruits and vegetables. Tomatoes, for example, can be made into tomato sauce by cooking them or squeezed into tomato juice and stored in the freezer.
4. Fruits: can be made into jams, dried fruit, candied dried fruit, sealed cans or vacuum-packed preserves, etc.
5. Dried vegetables: Dried vegetables such as wood ear, shiitake mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, seaweed, nori, dried mushrooms, dried bamboo shoots, etc. can be stored at home. These dried vegetables can be combined with fresh vegetables or meat to make delicious dishes.
All of the above can be stored in vacuum sealed jars to protect them from moisture and bacteria, with antioxidant effects and no loss of nutrients!
The vacuum food storage containers of Bestfull is a world leader, with sales of $30 million nationwide in 2021, proving the recognition of our products in the USA. Our product range also includes plastic food storage containers in two different shapes - rectangle food storage container and round food container.

Cutie Reviews: Tokyo Treat Sept 18
Hi everyone, this review is a bit later than I had hoped it would be. I wanted to get it done days ago/last week, but it was a fairly rough week after Easter passed...
Anyway, here I am now! Let’s not linger on things like that x3
Tumblr media
We hope you all have had a great summer and made great memories that will last for a lifetime. Speaking of great summer memories, one common activity that people of all ages enjoy doing in the summer is going out to an evening movie! We know we love strolling around in the summer night and ending up seeing an awesome flick at the local theater. We took inspiration from this idea to curate a box that would be great to snack on while watching your favorite Drama, Film, or Animation! So, get ready to chow down on some awesome movie-perfect bite-sized snacks, candies, and other savory sweets found inside September’s Movie Night box!
The booklet for this month features a cute Kimono template to color, a variety of Splatoon and Pokemon-themed contest and Lucky Treat items, an article of Japanese tea and honorifics when addressing others, and an article about 2 good television programs on Netflix to practice Japanese with: Terrace House, and Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories.
Tumblr media
This is September’s DIY and like usual, I will be covering this in a separate review/post.
On a side note... I’m not really sure how this relates to the movie theme. It would be kind of distracting trying to make these- but it’s not nearly as complex as most of them are so on the other hand, it kind of makes sense.
Mango Pokemon Soda
Tumblr media
The drink for this month is this adorable themed mango soda, available in 4 different designs to feature each of the Eeveelutions (Vaporean, Jolteon, and Flareon on yellow, this one, Eevee and Sylveon on pink (I really wanted this one), and Glaceon and Leafeon on green). Besides the design on the bottle, there is also a small picture of all the Eeveelutions, and a profile on the featured ones.
I love all of them so I would have been happy getting any of them :3 but I really loved Umbreon and Espeon first in comparison to the previous forms, so in a way I’m pretty happy with this one. It kind of gave me a nostalgic feeling.
Each bottle is 34kcal, and the drink is by Ito En. I do recall seeing this brand logo before on a drink, but I don’t remember which one.
Rating: ♥ ♥
I really like these types of bottle lids. It opens very smooth and easily and doesn’t seem to fizz very much. At first scent it was light and sweet, but the more I smelled, the more typical mango it got; but it never smelled like feet.
The taste is very refreshing and light, but it actually doesn’t taste like mango to me. I get a faint mango after-taste, but I taste coconut pudding over it. It’s not bad, but sadly it doesn’t appeal to me either...
Pretty Cure Popcorn
Tumblr media
We’ve been over this before, but I love Pretty Cure! So I always get really excited whenever they include products from the series in these boxes. Which oddly enough, they have been doing. Not very often, but sometimes.
Anyway this is by Tohato, and if I remember right for a long time now, each time there’s a new pretty cure season/series, they come out with new “waves” of these. Each include a sticker, and as much as I liked all of the Hug Precure, I really liked the three on mine so I was very happy~
Each bag consists of popcorn mixed with these cute, pink heart strawberry puffs. Each bag is 68 kcal.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
This is the perfect snack you’d want in a movie-themed box :D the popcorn is basic salted popcorn, while the heart puffs are sweet and crispy. Together they make the perfect combination~
Kinako no Yama Chocolate Banana & Hokkaido Matcha Milk Candy
Tumblr media
Figured I’d get the 2 items I was the least-excited to see out of the way now; if you’re new to this blog, I say this because I hate green tea, and bananas.
First up we’ll start with the Kinako no Yama snack by Meiji. If I recall right, I believe we were supposed to have these in a prior box, but due to some issue they were unable to provide it. I really like how they decided to bring it back when they could to make it up to anyone who might have been disappointed by that.
Kinoko no Yama are small biscuits topped with chocolate to give them the appearance of a mushroom/Kinoko. These ones are specifically topped in chocolate, half of which is banana flavored.
Each box is 378 kcal.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥
I usually like Kinoko no yama, but I detest artificial banana and these smell overwhelmingly like it. However, I was pleasantly surprise because the flavor, while there, only lasts a short while and kind of fades into the biscuit and chocolate. In my case that’s a huge relief!
Also, the booklet points out that these were included to remind one of the chocolate bananas one can often find during summer festivals. Cute concept but isn’t this box movie themed...?
The next item, I was dreading even more but gets back into the movie theme; apparently some people like eating hard candy for movies. Anyway, these are made from milk straight from Hokkaido and combine it with matcha to create a sweetened, creamy hard candy.
Each bag is 330 kcal.
Rating: ♥ ♥
It’s creamy in taste, I’ll give it that. But I didn’t actually think it was very sweet, nor did it surprise me, I knew I’d hate it and I couldn’t even finish the piece I tried. But if you do like green tea I think you would really like it; my mom loves green tea so she enjoyed them. I’ll probably give them to her or set them out in a dish for others to have.
Marshmallow Twist & Stretchy Grape Gummies
Tumblr media
Our next two items are these fun, pinkish-themed sweets :D If you’ve been a long-time reader then the marshmallow probably looks very familiar. We’ve gotten these, I think two other times prior to this, and each time I think I had a different color. But don’t quote me on that.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I don’t have much to say, it’s you’re average marshmallow. I’m not crazy over the fact we got a repeat a handful of times now, but I’m super-obsessed with marshmallows and they do spread them out in the very least.
The other item I have seen before but never tried, so I was pretty curious. This is the Kinosei snack for this month, which features Faecalis to refresh the body. Each gummy (or maybe the whole bag but doubtful) is 18 kcal. They are individually wrapped as you can see above, and each wrapper features a drawing or cute little ideas you can try to do with these.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
What makes them so much fun is that the candy is completely lined, which means you can peel it! The texture is a bit different than most gummies, but I really like them- the grape flavor is also very delicious :P I’m not very sure if they make me feel refreshed eating them, but I don’t feel bad.
Okinawa Pineapple Hi-Chew
Tumblr media
Our next item is the very popular Hi-Chew by Morinaga. Hi-Chew is a very chewy candy that comes in a large variety of fruity and drink inspired flavors. This one takes a spin at Pineapple from Okinawa; perfect for summer!
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I love Hi-Chew, and I also really like pineapple. Together they taste pretty good, you could definitely guess this was pineapple if you tried to eat it without looking at it and the packaging. The taste lingers for a few minutes after eating it too.
I can’t say it’s my most favorite Hi-Chew though, that would have to be the cola and strawberry ones. But if you never tried these I would highly recommend it. They can be found online at several locations, and they even sell mixed bags outside of Japan. If you have a Walmart, check the foreign/Asian food isle.
Brown Sugar Traditional Wheat Puff & Kinako Crackers
Tumblr media
These items are perfect for that Crispy snap you might need in between all the chewy sweetness (or if you want to wake up your movie buddy ;3). The first is a very traditional wheat puff that is coated in brown sugar. As expected, it has a lot of calories; a total of 380 kcal.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥
It’s very sweet and tastes like brown sugar (or you could even say maple), and it has a soft-crisp texture and dissolves in the mouth. It tastes good, but the texture is kinda strange; and that’s coming from me, who likes different textures.
The next item is a large bag of rice crackers coated in kinako (roasted soybean) powder. Each one is 17 kcal, and the whole bag is 506 kcal.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I’ve had these before or snacks a lot like them in both this flavoring, or savory. I really like rice-based snacks, but you actually don’t taste anything besides the soybean powder coating. They’re lightly crisp and the powder dissolves in the mouth.
Also, side-note, but if you read the blog then you might recall my mentioning how some squishy smell like soybeans to me. It was snacks like these that inspired that notion, and every time I smell squishies with this scent I think about them.
Kishu Plum Chips & Anpanman Fluffy Corn Puffs
Tumblr media
You know, a few of these items didn’t really scream movie to me, but I feel like the further I get into this the more I start seeing it.
First up are these uniquely flavored chips by Calbee. They combine the saltiness of a potato chip with Kishu plums to create a chip with a sour tang.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
If you like the taste of pickled plum, unique chips, or sourness you will enjoy these :3 not only are the chips decently sized and looking delicious, but they also taste really good. The flavor is strong, but not on like a... salt and vinegar level, so it’s not overwhelming.
Our other item are these simple, cute Anpanman corn puffs by Tohato. This was the share snack (which for once I think is worth including because if you watch a movie with multiple people then this would be a good thing to have), so we get 4 bags of these. Each bag features Anpanman on the front, and a cute little puzzle on the back.
These are described as being a slightly sweet, light corn puff.
Each bag is 40.7 kcal.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
They are extremely light and airy and provide a soft crisp, but I actually get no sweetness at all. It has a flavor, but it’s not a corn either, nor does it remind me of cereal. I’m not actually sure what it is, but I do like it.
Shrimp Mayonnaise Umaibo & Spicy Pepper Pea Corn Puff Rings
Tumblr media
These are our final snacks for this month, our monthly Umaibo in Shrimp Mayonnaise flavor, and look- it’s actually whole this time :D lately they keep winding up crushed into a million pieces for me.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I love Umaibo x3 I don’t really have much to say on them because we get them all the time, and I’ve had this flavor a couple of times. But it’s one of my favorites~ it reminds me of sushi.
Our final item is this small bag of spicy pepper pea corn puffs. We’ve had this brands snacks before, but I can’t remember if I tried these before. I feel like I have because the taste is very familiar to me...
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Whatever it is, this tastes very good to me. There is some spice there and it lingers on the tongue for a short bit after eating them, but it’s fairly light so if you’re not big on spicy things it isn’t painful or anything.
♥ Cutie Ranking ♥
Content - 4 out of 5. I really liked mostly everything, but there was 1 item I was disappointed in,1 that delightfully surprised me, and 1 that I hated- but compared to other ratio of previous boxes I’m pretty happy with this one.
Theme - 4 out of 5. For most part I felt like these were pretty good choices for movie snacks. They reminded me of things I would see at the theater or drive-in, and ironically enough I ended up watching the lifetime movie channel while I was eating these and working on this review.
Total Rank: 9 out of 10 Cuties! In my opinion this would have been a great box to start the subscription with. There was a little bit of everything in it and a lot of yummy tastes~ I admit, there are a couple of things that some people might not like, but I think it would be a fun experience to try anyway. I really enjoyed this one.
♥ Cutie’s Scale of Yummy ♥
1. Grape Gummies - I love the flavor and texture, it’s as fun to play with as it is to eat~
2. Spicy Pepper Pea Corn Puff Rings - I’m not sure what it is about these but I really, really like these!
3. Kinako Crackers - I think I prefer the savory ones to these sweet ones, but they are still delicious!
4. Shrimp Mayonnaise Umaibo - I really, REALLY like this but I’ve had it before so it’s nothing new to me.
5. Pretty Cure Popcorn - This was very cute and I love the packaging and included sticker, and the cute pink heart puffs~
6. Kishu Plum Chips - I’m pretty sure I’ve had these before, now that I think about it. But anyway, they’re really good :3 so I’m not complaining.
7. Anpanman Corn Puff Rings - The flavoring is light but it’s there, and the simple, colorful packaging is adorable. A cute little snack for any Anpanman fans~
8. Pineapple Hi-Chew - As much as I like pineapple, I’m not very big on pineapple candy. I’m not sure why. It was pretty goo though.
9. Brown Sugar Wheat Puff - it was sweet and unique, but not my favorite.
10. Marshmallow Twist - As much as I love marshmallows, there’s nothing special about it. It was just an average marshmallow.
11. Mango Soda - It wasn’t what I had hoped it would be...
12. Banana Chocolate Kinoko - I didn’t hate them, but they aren’t my favorite things either.
13. Matcha Milk Candy - I mean... it’s pretty obvious right? I thought the bag design was cute though.

Sunda: A Seat At Melbourne's Best New Restaurant?
Sunda is an intriguing restaurant slightly hidden away on Punch Lane on the edge of Melbourne's Chinatown area. It is named after the Sunda region incorporating Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam. The menu is an intriguing mix of these three cuisines crossed with native Australian ingredients-think buttermilk roti with Vegemite curry topped with shaved Tasmanian truffles or an unforgettable Bika Ambon honeycomb cake.
There isn't anything really like Sunda in Sydney which is my prerequisite when choosing restaurants in Melbourne. Knowing this, my food writer friend Sofia suggested that we dine at Sunda. Chef Khanh Nguyen (formerly of Mr Wong, Bentley Restaurant & Bar, Yellow and Cirrus) hails from the inner west in Sydney and moved to Melbourne in December 2017. Sunda is also Khanh's first venture by himself.
"I didn’t like that people saw Vietnamese food as a cheap cuisine. As with other cuisines, Vietnamese food is just as time consuming with so many techniques to produce the dishes that make it what it is. I felt like I would be restricting myself if I were to open a Vietnamese restaurant and cooking Vietnamese food alone. From there I decided to cook south east Asian food, which became my new goal. The flavours are somewhat familiar to what you would find in south east Asia but by combining it with native ingredients it creates something quite unique," he says.
The simple glass box dining room is made up of bar seats as well as two long share tables. Bar seating allows you to watch the chefs in action and is where we take a seat. They bring us a tasty Achar (pickled vegetables) with dried soybeans and kohlrabi to snack on.
Truffle roti $36
A day earlier Sofia tagged me on an Instagram post of Khanh's letting me know that we would be dining on the final night that they had Tasmanian truffles on their menu. I almost feel that truffles are the universe's way of making you thankful for winter and at Sunda they're generously grated over a crispy, buttery, buttermilk roti served with a round of Vegemite curry. If this isn't a dish to suggest that multiculturalism works I don't what is.
The vegemite curry roti dish is the result of several weeks of testing. There were versions of the dish using a wattleseed dough, a version cooked in lemon myrtle oil and one with a Davidson plum sauce. But it wasn't until one of his chefs made a simple roti at home and told him that it was better than the ones that he was making that he pared it back, "Sometimes you just shouldn’t try to much with adjusting a traditional dish," he says. They replaced the milk with buttermilk, used cultured butter, condensed milk and layered the dough with brown butter and made the roti what it is today. It is a lengthy process which is why it is an off menu item and they only serve 20-25 daily. And the Vegemite curry? "The vegemite component is made from the usual ingredients you’d find in a curry with added butter, roasted yeast, vegemite and sour cream. That little dip has around 35 ingredients, giving it a unique and complex flavour," explains Khanh. And it is amazing.
Crispy tempeh, ginger flower, tamarind, palm sugar $6
Even tempeh, an oft derided vegetarian or vegan ingredient becomes a thing of tastiness with a rich palm sugar and tamarind sauce with fried ginger flower on top. It's like a tasty chip dipped in a sweet, tangy sauce.
Wagyu rendang bun, pickled radish, fermented sambal $9
We watch as they fry the wagyu rendang bun. The wagyu is soft and not as spiced as some rendang can be but it's served puffy and piping hot with a wonderfully pungent fermented sambal as well as pickled radish to take the heat out of the sambal if you need it.
‘Otak otak’, spanner crab curry, finger lime, rice crisps $27
The most popular dish coming out of the kitchen is undoubtedly the otak otak. Usually it's a light fish mousse wrapped in banana leaves in a smart little package. This version is a long and slender spanner crab stock and coconut milk parfait infused with curry paste then set with a seaweed extract. It is served resting on a charred banana leaf with picked spanner crab meat, chilli, finger lime, coriander and a nuoc cham (sweet fish sauce dressing) gel parfait and served with rounds of house made crispy rice crisps which you spoon it on. I dare anyone to stop at one rice crisp of this. The curried spanner crab mousse spreads lightly and creamy with the crunchy crisps.
Fremantle octopus, bush tomato, lemongrass sambal, onion $24
Although I think that this is perhaps one dish too many for the two of us, I'm so glad that we ordered the Fremantle octopus. It is exquisitely pretty and come cut into bite sized, tender pieces on top of a bush tomato and lemongrass sambal with slices of onion.
The creamy sambal is made with lemongrass, shallot, tomato and garlic then is cooked down until caramelised and blended until smooth and seasoned with kombu stock and sherry vinegar. The sauce is spicy and addictive while the octopus melts in the mouth.
Lamb rump, cashew nut, saltbush, native curry $40
We are often the girls with eyes bigger than our stomachs. This lamb rump curry is a version of a dish that Khanh's mother used to make. When the lamb arrives it's a generous portion. There are slices of melting, fat ringed lamb rump enriched with curry paste and Vegemite with cashews, saltbush and a native curry. The native curry is made with the usual curry spices with the addition of native spices like lemon myrtle, aniseed myrtle and native pepperberry. The cashew nuts have been braised for hours in Indonesian palm sugar and crispy fried saltbush seasoned with vinegar.
Egg noodles, XO sauce, chicken crackling, pepperberry $22
One of Sofia's favourite dishes was the egg noodles with XO sauce and chicken cracking. I immediately gravitated towards it too because when it's freezing cold I go for comfort foods like breads, noodles and pasta. And this is a beauty. With a good char from the wok the egg noodles are cooked with XO sauce and native pepperberry as well as a sprinkling of crunchy pieces of chicken crackling. It's sizeable too and the sort of dish you find yourself going back to, even after you think you've eaten enough.
Bika ambon, banana custard, macadamia, pandan $18
And then comes dessert and a must order is the Bika Ambon. It's an Indonesian cake with a delightfully spongy texture. Khanh describes it as "It's a cake I first experienced during a trip to Medan, Indonesia. I was fascinated by the little air pockets and strands that were layered through the cake and decided I wanted to put it on the menu at Sunda." The process is long and the cake is an infusion of coconut milk and cream, kaffir lime leaf, lemongrass and dark palm sugar. It is then left to ferment and sour with yeast for four before being poured into a cake tin and cooked for two hours. Khanh serves it with banana custard, macadamia and pandan ice cream as an ode to banana bread. It's like a puffy crumpet banana cake in a cake form. The banana custard, roasted macadamias, pandan ice cream all go wonderfully with this soft, warm and spongey cake.
Vietnamese coffee, chocolate, coconut, wattleseed
And because it's the end of truffle season, we also try the Vietnaese coffee dessert. It's Khanh's take on Vietnamese coffee ice cream which he drank every day during his research trip. It starts with chocolate coffee mousse, dehydrated wattleseed cake, puffed wild rice, cocoa nibs, coffee honeycomb, young coconut granita and a condensed milk ice cream with Vietnamese coffee dust and what else but shavings of lush truffle. I only wish there was something like this in Sydney!
So tell me Dear Reader, which dish did you like the sound of best? And when offered truffle as an option, do you take it up?
This meal was independently paid for.

Seinfeld Meets Native Australian Chinese At Donna Chang, Brisbane
Tumblr media
A Seinfeld episode was the inspiration for the name of the new Brisbane Chinese restaurant Donna Chang. But this isn't American Chinese or Cantonese Chinese. The menu features a range of Chinese dishes with Native Australian ingredients as well as a photogenic heritage listed interior with sweeping half moon booths in pastel pinks and blues.
Tumblr media
Linda and I arrive at Donna Chang a little before they officially open. You see I wanted to make sure that I got pics of those booths before they filled up with people and by coincidence she was wearing a pastel blue dress and I a pastel pink so we matched the booths. The large 120 capacity restaurant has been very popular with patrons and fills up quickly every night.
Tumblr media
The Executive Chef at Donna Chang is Jake Nicolson and he says of using Native Australian cuisine, "I found the robust, intense flavours of native Australian produce lends itself perfectly to the that of the Chinese cuisine and the techniques used."
Tumblr media
We take a seat at a table and I almost wish we had a big enough crowd to fill a half moon pink velvet booth. I've already stalked the menu so I know what I want. And they are items that focus on native Australian ingredients.
Tumblr media
Sichuan pickles $8
We start with something to get the appetite going (admittedly not really a problem for me ever). The Sichuan pickles are spicy hot and thankfully not restrained with a gutsy chilli flavour to the shredded carrot and cucumber pickles.
Tumblr media
Scampi toast w seaweed mayo + scampi caviar $26
The Scampi toast come as four delicate, slim fingers of scampi meat on toast, deep fried and crisp. They are topped with seaweed mayonnaise and scampi caviar and are utterly delicious. I'm already having sartorial regret at wearing such a tight dress.
Tumblr media
Prawn + scallop wontons w aged vinegar, coriander + chilli and har gow with Oscietra caviar
Then we try a selection of their dim sum that are designed for popping in the mouth in one bite. The prawn and scallop wontons come encased in a bright red rice flour wrapper and are topped with coriander, aged vinegar and chilli and are delightful. They are made using Fraser Isle Spanner crab sourced locally from Mooloolaba and Salmon Caviar from the Yarra Valley. Equally as good but with a pronounced salty pop at the end are the har gow topped with Oscietra caviar.
Tumblr media
Whole QLD Grouper (700-750g) - wood roasted in paperbark w lapsang souchong + desert lime $88
It was actually a little difficult trying to decide which mains to order because there was so much I wanted to try. But I was really interested in their take on whole fish, usually a steamed whole fish in Chinese restaurants. This version takes a whole Queensland grouper fish which is a farmed fish from the Rocky Point Aqua Culture facility and infuses it with smoky Lapsang Souchong tea and small teardrop shaped desert limes and wraps it up in paperbark to cook. It arrives at the table with the scent of burning paperbark and a corner of the bark alight. The fish is perfectly cooked and the sauce permeates through all of the flesh of the fish. For those that find fish bland this is the dish for you as it packs so much flavour and the native desert lime goes perfectly with the fish.
Tumblr media
Twice cooked Black Silky chicken w lemon aspen + ginger (1/2) $30
It was a close toss up between the chicken and the roast duck with Davidson plum but I was intrigued by their take on "lemon chicken". This twice cooked black silky chicken is like lemon chicken's extravagant and infinitely more interesting cousin. The black skinned chicken is served bone-in and chopped up and it is flavoured with lemon aspen and sweet and sour Davidson plums. Often this native fruit can be difficult to work with as it so tart and strongly flavoured but it suits this dish perfectly.
Jake explains, "The ‘Black Namoi” is a modern-day spin on the traditional rare breed, Asian coveted ‘Silkie’. Unlike traditional Silkie chickens, which are lean and gamey, the Black Namoi is a result of new bloodlines and crossbreeding, culminating in a small, tender table bird with startling black skin and bones, a good layer of fat, a greater proportion of moist meat, and deeper, richer, less gamey flavour than it’s lean, textural cousin. The increased fat content allows the Black Namoi to be used for roasting, baking, and grilling. The Black Namoi is designed to get Silkies out of the pot and onto the grill."
Tumblr media
Wok fried egg noodles w pearl meat + XO $28
I can't go past wok fried noodles especially when they're paired with XO sauce. They're not stingy with the XO sauce and it's a good, full bodied one with plenty of flavour and I keep going back for more and more of these noodles. The pearl meat is also very generously portioned and its a tender clam meat with a little bit of meaty texture to it.
Tumblr media
Hong Kong style milk tea + wattleseed crepe cake w milk ice cream $15
It's time for dessert and we are tempted by quite a few of them. The Hong Kong style milk tea and wattleseed crepe cake is an interesting idea but doesn't quite fulfil the promise as the crepes are quite dry and crepe cakes are best when the filling softens the crepes.
Tumblr media
Daintree Forest chocolate tart w Davidson plum jam + White Rabbit candy ice cream $17
But we both really enjoy the chocolate tart, a slender slice of Daintree Forest chocolate tart with swirls of Davidson plum jam and White Rabbit candy ice cream. If you're a Chinese kid, White Rabbit candy is one of those classic childhood treats (for me it was a reward for being quiet during Sunday school ;)) and it is a soft, milky chewy lolly in the same vein as sweetened condensed milk.
Tumblr media
Ice Cream Sundae $18
And because Linda liked the sound of the soft serves we decided to try all three of them and they arrive in a sundae glass. The three flavours are peanut butter, seaweed caramel and Caramello koala. They're all true to flavour and quite sweet and I'm particularly partial to the seaweed caramel with its true but perfectly balanced flavour.
Tumblr media
I open up my fortune cookie, squint, frown and then burst into laughter. I had almost forget the Seinfeld connection until my fortune cookie gave me a quote from my favourite character George Costanza, "It's not a lie if you believe it." Linda's fortune reads, "Eating pretzels makes you thirsty."
So tell me Dear Reader, who was your favourite Seinfeld character and do you remember this episode? And what do you think of the native Australian bent here? Have you been to Donna Chang?
NQN and Linda were guests of Donna Chang but all opinions remain her own.

Mini Reviews - BPAL’s American Gods Waves I and II
So far, there have been two waves of American Gods-inspired scents from BPAL. I've been reading the book and got very excited for the show and perfumes coming out. I jumped on both waves of the release, going in with a friend on the scents. Ajevie, of course, decanted these, and most (except Believe, which was backordered) arrived at my door about three and a half weeks later.
They've had about two weeks to settle, and so here are my early impressions of these. My friend took a few of them off my hands before I could really swatch them, but I've swatched most of them:
America's New Gods - Scorched wires, silicone, tar, chlorine, wax, rubber, and exhaust. I was freaked out by these notes. It’s very … chloriney on first sniff. Mostly, this smells like cleaner.
Becoming Thunder - Skin musk and 20-year aged frankincense, a sprig of asphodel, a spalsh of soma, a lightning streak of sharp ozone, and a stream of ambrosia. This is another scent my friend took from me; it was musky and a little (but not overly) sweet.
Believe  - The heart of the land: roots plunging ever deeper into thrumming black soil through the graves of faith, disillusion, and skepticism. This hasn't come yet, as it was backordered. It should be arriving to me sometime this week.
The Best Lies - Sugar-swept honey and rose. Ah yes.. .BPAL honey and rose. Since I amp honey, the honey is overwhelming the rose here :(
Bilquis - Honey, myrrh, lily of the valley, rose otto, fig leaf, almond, ambrette, red apple, and warm musk. This was one my friend wanted. I did not skin swatch this, but it was a warm, honey/rose blend that smelled fairly spicy and sweet to me.
Black Hats - Gunpowder residue, patent leather, pomade, and aftershave. I smell some leather and gunpowder/gray musk. It's not unpleasant. On skin, it's a bit smoky with a sweet undertone very reminiscent of aftershave. After about fifteen minutes, it's strongly gunpowder/leather, which is too strong for me.
The Buffalo Man - Warm dark brown musk, woodsmoke, and deep pools of labdanum. Very dark 'brown' smell, very woody and harsh. On skin this becomes a little lighter, warmed by the labdanum.
Cigarettes and Offerings - Cigarette smoke overlapping with the resonance of long-forgotten incense. There's that smoke note again. It's not really cigarette so much as the unpleasant bacon-ish smoke note I dislike. But it's quieter on skin, with a sweet edge from the incense. After twenty minutes when this warms, it is amping the cigarette smoke now. It's overtaken any hint of incense.
Coin Trick - Glittering gold and silver, rolling over knuckles--concealed in palms--and pulled from the moon and the stars. This is a very bright scent. Without knowing the notes, I might have said it's amber with a citrus element. Honestly, it smells like a man's cologne almost, in the best way (to me). On skin it's bright but musky, if that makes any sense. This definitely has a warm but gold impression to the scent.
Eostre of the Dawn - Jasmine and honeysuckle, sweet milk and female skin. Lightly floral honeysuckle with a milky, sweet musk. This reminds me of nice/high end shampoo or lotion. I will say it leans a little baby powderish at points as it dries down. The jasmine comes out stronger on skin. The throw is pretty strong here as it warms. Now it's more an even jasmine/honeysuckle. Very floral and nice.
For the Joy of It - Whiskey, mead, honey, gold, sweat, and blood. Rather pungent, sweetish. I'm smelling the honey very strongly, and (most oddly), this reminds me of bubblegum and/or bananas. Very odd, and I feel like my nose might be broken except my friend said the same thing as we sniffed this. On skin, I don't smell any of the notes actually in it, but it has a weirdly sweet yet slightly woody scent underneath it. After twenty or thirty minutes, this is oddly spicy--I think the honey tempers the whiskey. I don't really get any 'blood' or 'sweat.
Glass Eye - The depths of Mimisbrunnr: mugwort and frankincense, grey amber, and ash. Bleh. Something really strong up front that smells like cleaner/medicine. On skin it becomes even more unpleasant to me, smelling like a cough drop. I wonder if it's the mugwort. The weird cleaner/medicinal quality to this stays.
The Ifrit - Desert sand, red musk, blackened ginger, dragon's blood resin, black pepper, cinnamon, and tobacco. Very red/sweet in the vial. Reminds me of red gummy candy. I don't really get dragon's blood here though. Finally after an hour or so, the gummy quality/sweetness dies down and I get a red musk.
The Jeweled Spider - Cigarillo smoke, spatters of ice cream sundae, a supersized mug of coffee, a pile of fruit, and a little bit of curried goat. This is weirdly sweet ice cream/coffee. I think… there is probably some curried goat in there which gives this a grounded scent instead of being just pure sugar. It's very odd because this smells like nothing I've smelled before but it's undeniably foody somehow. My nose/stomach is very confused.
Laura - Violets, upturned earth, mothballs, formaldehyde (mixed with glycerin and lanolin, and the memory of the taste of strawberry daiquiris suspended in twilight. A sniff of this is all strawberries with…something… underneath of it. Sniffing closer on skin, there's definitely something underneath of the strawberry, although the strawberry itself is very pure (not sugary at all). After a few minutes on skin, this is sort of medicinal/mothball-y, I think. In about half an hour, this is an oddly biting but light floral.
Low Key Lyesmith - Black clove and cassia flung onto glowing cinders and mingled with slow dripping poisons. I get mostly cinders that burn my throat a little bit. This is bitter and dark. I think this is supposed to be clove, but on my skin it's just extremely bitter/burning ash. After about five minutes, this burn dies off and I can smell the clove a little bit. Then it's just clove clove clove. It's kind of bitter on me.
Mad Sweeney - Barrel-aged whiskey and oak. Weirdly sweet…something. I think that's supposed to be whiskey without the alcoholy tinge. On skin this definitely is more whiskey/oak.
Mama-Ji - Spices, cardamom, nutmeg, and flowers. I didn't skin test this, but I remember it just being very warm and spicy. This is one my friend ordered.
Media - A news anchor's cologne, a soap star's perfume: perfect, pixelated, and glamorous; aglow with cathodes and anodes, coated with phosphor. This actually smells very mainstream, florally and clean, like good shampoo/conditioner. I very much like it, but I feel like I've had many mainstream scents like this before. I see why they describe it as having a phosphorous/glowing quality, because it's very warm and bright.
Mister Wednesday - Sleek cologne, the memory of a Nine Herbs Charm, gallows wood, and a splash of Whiskey. I don't really know with this one. It smells like something bright and crisp to me. On skin it's cologne with a little bit of wood. Overall, this is so soft with very little throw, like the memory of a man's cologne.
Mr. Czernobog - Unfiltered cigarettes, the leather and metal of sledge hammers, aortal blood slowly drying, and black incense. Another one my friend ended up grabbing; I remember this as a pleasant, masculine cologne with a bit of a smoky/incensey edge.
Mr. Ibis - Papyrus, vanilla flower, Egyptian musk, African musk, aloe ferox, white sandalwood.  Very light and clean in the vial. On skin, I get a sweet, slight floral with a little musk and aloe. It is beautiful.
Mr. Jacquel - Golden amber, hyssop, North African patchouli, and embalming spices. This is one my friend took. Sorry, but I don't remember it other than it was rather 'brown' and sour smelling to me.
The Norn's Farmhouse - Dusty, ancient wood, horehound and sage with viper's bugloos, mugwort, chamomile, nettle, apple blossom, chervil, and ashes. Apple with a really spicy herb. It reminds me of something I've used in cooking… almost like a pickling herb. I don’t enjoy this, as it's almost … tart and lingers in my nostrils after sniffing. The unpleasantness dies away after thirty or so minutes, leaving something reminiscent of a food cellar.
Search Engine - Dark metal and sour grapefruit creeping over a field of bones. I don't actually have this one in my inventory; I'll have to see if it's somewhere in my bag or if my friend ended up taking it. I remember not liking it though as it was strange citrus over a gray musk (metal).
Shadow - Grey oudh and bay rum luminous with amber. Amazing amber. If Mr. Wednesday is the memory of an older man's cologne, then Shadow is the memory of a new boyfriend's cologne on a cozy flannel. I want to wrap myself in this forever. I actually am ordering a bottle for my SO to wear. It's that good.
Take the Moon - Silvered musk and lemon peel, white fir needle, frosted apple blossom, and mugwort. Lemony, almost in a medicinal way. On skin it's more tart lemon with a very slight apple. Over time, this amps to a pleasant citrusy lemon, very bright. I don't get other notes here.
Technical Boy - Vape smoke and burning electrical parts.  It's just what it says it is. Electronics with a smokey edge. This reminds me of Alkemia's Deus ex Machina. Very reminiscent of plastic. The plasticky/electrical parts scent loses its potency within an hour though, and is a little bit of smokey musk.
Zorya Polunochnaya - Pale amber and ambergris, gossamer vanilla, moonflower, and white tobacco petals. Light vanilla. It's beautiful. Hours later, this is pale amber and tobacco against light vanilla.
Zorya Utrennyaya - Sweet black coffee and a touch of ambrette seed. It is sweet coffee without any cream. I don't get any ambrette seed. It's not bad for a coffee scent, but it's nothing unique in my collection. This may have to do with where I skin tested, but this doesn't last very long at all (less than an hour).
Zorya Vechernyaya - Red musk and wild plum, orange blossom and jasmine, juniper berries, sweet incense, and vetiver-laced sandalwood. Sorry, but orange blossom is a BPAL death note of mine and I could smell it from outside the vial. My friend took this blend and I made her open it well away from me.
