TOH fandom feels this need to 'stick it' to other kids shows and show them how TOH 'did it correctly' but they don't understand what shows like Amphibia's SVTFOE and SU etc etc were going for. And the whole 'the show was cancelled excuse' drives me freaking insane! I grew up watching Spectacular spider man, x men evolution and GLtas and those shows got screwed over so badly- but they used their time efficiently to establish stories and characters etc so no you can absolutely can give everyone in your cast good character and relationship development establish important plot points and elements and villains within a short amount of time.
SVTFOE went through awful seasonal rot yes but it knew how to balance highschool drama with adventures amazingly (also it's mix of random xd humor and dark comedy was done a lot better imo) Amphibia despite its flaws is a very well done fantasy story (and has some great diversity in it and more subtle allegorical stuff surrounding being a foreigner and oppression- it's not the most deep show ever but it absolutely has depth) and im gonna say it Steven Universe while not a masterpiece by any means (it does share most of TOH's flaws) is just objectively better than TOH. Especially when it comes to diversity! More diverse body types, more diverse personalities (not everyone is lovably dorky- steven is a crybaby soft boy who matures into a charismatic leader, amethyst is a rambunctious tough bruiser, pearl is an intellectual insecure knight whose lost her cause and garnet is a stoic cool leader etc) and has jewish and south east asian rep and while no one talks about it Amethyst is good disabled rep (she's got the alien equivalent of dwarfism, the alien equivalent of a developmental disability and she has an arc surrounding how she views these aspects of herself) it handles mental illness very well and yet it has this horrible reputation as being super racist and inappropriate to show to kids- which is an opinion people are allowed to have about this show especially if they are black or poc or whatever- I'm not gonna call their opinions BS there are some good points they make about the whole 'angry black woman' stereotype but as a Puerto Rican girl with autism wasn't allowed to make any mildly negative comments about TOH and how it handled neurodivergence or how I didn't even register Luz as afro latina without fans saying I was full of shit and just completely media illiterate- the human zoo in su was depicted as bad but made one or two off color jokes and therefore the show is irredeemably evil- okay then but now you can't fucking harass me over saying TOH had some instances where the disabled rep fell apart a bit (i wouldn't even say that the show is over all ableist or godawful it just had moments that could've been handled better) but um no I'm not allowed to say that apparently- if you get to call my complaints bullshit because your a 'queer poc' then i as another queer poc gets to complain about the show you think is untouchable (i won't cause that's really mean and you have legitimate points) the logic this fandom uses to justify being an asshole to others drives me up a wall. SVTFOE handled revisionist history and colonialism better. Steven Universe had actual fucking diversity. Amphibia had actual layers and complexity that gets totally ignored. But no all shows have to have super blunt representation, and pretty art styles with flashy animation and we must shame all people who have even the most tame criticisms of TOH. The owl house isn't a horrible show but it has its flaws and people who complain about them bring up valid points and since some of you seem so up in arms needing bringing up race guess what? White people also get to call out TOH's flaws. So many kids shows get disregarded as having no depth or being stupid and I hate that TOH fandom also gets in on that nonsense.
Your show is cool we get it now stop fucking putting other kids media down. I'm not gonna say you should be thanking Steven universe or adventure time or gravity falls for laying down the groundwork so TOH can exist you get to criticize these shows but maybe don't get shocked and call everyone who says something you dislike media illiterate and say our complaints are BS? Cause we can easily say the same to you-by your logic I can say all your complaints are full of shit and harass you over liking the collector because of how he treated king, by your logic I get to call you racist and homophobic etc - which we can agree is a bullshit thing to say right? And also it's just mean. You can complain that Steven Universe getting cancelled isn't an excuse for its shit writing in some episodes (I agree with that) just also be aware that Im holding toh to that same standard. You can complain that SVTFOE had an ending you hate because of how ooc and pointless so much of it was- agreed but I get to say the same shit about toh
TOH is not immune to the criticisms you lob at other shows and screaming media iliteracy at the top of your lungs doesn't shut down arguments as well as you think it does

I saw your opinions regarding Morningmark and I wanna ask, how do you feel about his Ship War Au and Starco Citadel stuff?
Personally, I never cared for it because of how starco biased they bother were. But I did like the concept of a fankid multiverse.
No opinion. Not really invested in any fankids, they always felt like cheap attempts at shipping fodder for me. (And not even good shipping fodder. Just blatantly shoving your OC into things and pretending it makes the story any better? Where's the themes? The status-quo breakage? How does it affect the world?)
Honestly, basically the only fankids I like are the Pines triplets (children of Mabel and an OC) from Gravity Falls' Transcendence AU, because they fit with the story's themes of growing older, and how Dipper will never be able to do that again. They are characters in their own right, but more than that they are excuses to see how the main characters deal with parenting, and where their flaws and weaknesses translate to actual parenting issues that make sense for them. Their personalities are mirrors to which we can understand the main characters better, and their arcs follow the story's themes. (And I was introduced to them when I was young and wasn't immediately turned off by years' worth of fankids just being fun mix-and-match OCs with no connection to the thematic part of the stories they came from. I do admit bias.)
I suspect JessTheVampire's fankids are similar, but I have untreated attention deficit problems and no free time, so I've never actually read her story.
But I did read the Citadel comics; it was impossible not to be active in the svtfoe fandom and not read them, after all. And they... were more of the same. The Citadel itself was far too sci-fi and had no connection to the story of the actual show, the main, non-fankid characters of svtfoe were non-entities, and the story was basically an excuse to dick around with characters the creator was clearly enamored with but that I didn't care about.
And the Ship War comics... *shudders* They somehow outdid the show for stupid shipping nonsense. I don't know how that's possible, but they did it. But even worse, they mischaracterized just about everyone, especially my fave, Toffee. I've gone over this already. I've talked about this already. But it still stings. Man.
I know fankids don't have to be that deep and it's completely fine if people ignore my thoughts on what makes a good fankid and just do what they want. But it's also perfectly fine for me to bitch about it.
Anyway, yeah, don't like fankids. Sorry.
(Also from now on I'll be tagging it #morning mark salt because I suspect his fans are looking him up and then seeing my posts and getting mad at them.)

How would you feel about including SVTFOE?
Talked about this one before, so I'll keep it brief: I really like most of SVTFOE but, like many, I was extremely disappointed with the final arc, to the point that I have a huge disconnect with the show - I haven't really touched SVTFOE since, tbh.
I had some ideas prior to that, but to be honest, they're no longer viable with the Kverse we have today. That's not exactly a dealbreaker - many of my plans have changed radically since I first decided to include X or Y fandom in the crossover - but if I were to include the show now, I'd have to address some of my biggest issues with Star vs. first and foremost (the relentless shipping BS, habitual nonsense character choices, just...the ending, etc.)
I have one very cool idea, but it requires a lot of setup - and that's if I do decide to execute it. I lean towards "yes" right now, but regardless, I wouldn't expect anything SVTFOE for quite a while yet.

Honestly, you saying that pretty much the only reason why any of Lily’s crappy, drama-mongering videos get popular in the first place is specifically BECAUSE she designs them with ragebaiting people into hatewatching them in mind is one of the most honest things I’ve ever heard a member of her personality cul-I mean audience say. Yes Mantabay, pretty much the entire reason for Lily’s success IS her being an extremely cynical outrage merchant frequently adopting the most contrarian opinions possible TO make people angry at her, and then crying whenever she gets exactly that kind of negative attention she wanted so much to begin with. But, unlike your lies, that’s what makes her videos so painfully BAD to watch and why Lily FAILS so fucking hard as a critic. Because the types of terminally online, anger obsessed rants that she tries to claim are video essays. AREN’T actually appealing to any normal people at all! Hell, even going outside once a MONTH is enough to fucking gate somebody out of the terminally online creeps and bigots that she makes her videos to directly appeal TO!
You’re angry at her for saying Spy x Family is an adorable anime and possibly the best in recent years? That Hamtaro is super cute and everyone should watch it? That it was wrong of Vivziepop to misuse voudou in Hazbin Hotel? That the netflix adaptation of A:TLA butchered a beloved childhood series? That Star Wars has done dirty its characters & actors of color for years? That Turning Red was a very fun movie that nailed its target audience? That SVTFOE had a bad ending? That the Harley Quinn show is as enjoyable as it is a wild ride? That Encanto was a simultaneously cathartic, heartwrenching film? That Pokémon should return to its roots and focus on gameplay more than 4 hours of cutscenes?
Those contrarian, ragebaiting opinions?
None of those are controversial. Those are extremely popular opinions. In fact, so popular that she’s now doing better than MovieBob. This evidently seems to bother you. Her success gets under your skin so much that the only way you can vent your hurt fee fees is to go running after anyone who interacts with her content.
I’ll bet dollars to donuts you’re one of the people who caused her to make her Steven Universe video public again. Your inability to stop frothing at the mouth over her made her money, didn’t it? She gave you the option to just leave her alone and it’d stay privated for good, but you just couldn’t help yourself. You’re that obsessed.
As entertaining as it is to know you hoisted yourself on your own petard this way, unfortunately none of this is going to make its way to your favorite woman in the world. I never make any effort to lead her to my blog, which means you’re screaming nonsense into the void. Isn’t that kind of sad?
Hey, but if you still want attention I can field more of your anonymous asks, since you’re too scared to attach your username to your apparently “normal” and not at all terminally online opinions. I’ll just respond only with the same reaction image over and over. ‘Cause there’s nothing else to say to you that you don’t already know.

MAY IT BE SAID I DO NOT CARE IF YOU STILL ENJOY SVTFOE
early seasons are a banger and i respect that
i however have A LOT OF BEEF with the shit they pulled with starco and continuously trying to push it
and for those who're blissfully unaware i'm gonna be the rabbit who ruins your day, cause they pulled some anime nonsense with marco, who stayed in another dimension for 15 years, thus making him 30. when he came back to his dimension his body reversed back to 15 but his mind stayed the same
...
and i can't let this go either but YES having star and her family essentially commit genocide of magical creatures at the end of the series was a brilliant idea, thank you so much for that. that wasn't fucked up and one of the biggest fuckin fumbles in the shows run at all nooooooo /sarcasm
love my mutuals!! dearly and severely!!
but if i ever get jumpscared by svtfoe in 2023 again i'm committing war crimes /hj

Not to be dramatic but the two last episodes of svtfoe were the most beautiful thing I've ever seen and I would die for Eclipsa, Globgor and Meteora

im gonna say it, bee and puppycat feels a lot like what star vs the forces of evil was trying to be. there's the like. 'quirky' dialogue and relatability and most noticeably weird tangents to the story that make it feel dreamy and disjointed. the problem i always had with svtfoe was that while that kind of humor can sometimes make a series lighthearted and fun, they constantly used that sort of tone with more serious plot relevant moments too and it took away from the weight of them. and even when that wasnt the case moments around it sometimes made it feel jarring and out of place
even with the later seasons it's like i think the political plot with eclipsa was great! the twist of her being a victim of the kingdom's racism was really good and i like that they didnt drop it either and put a lot of effort in exploring the aftermath of all these changes star was implementing and what effect it would have on people. they handled that storyline with a lot of care and respect and i think it turned out pretty well
the problem is when that episode is sandwiched by teen love triangle for the fifth episode that season and a weird drug trip realm that ends up being very relevant in star's journey of self discovery. suddenly that coming of age plotline became ooooh check out this weird unicorn you have amnesia now isnt that crazyyyyyy. and it severely undermines all the build up they did in favor of plot convenience. like oh man we did all this work setting up plot points but now we dont have time to flesh out all of them and we have to wrap up the season, what now?
idk, bee and puppycat feels like it at least gives weight to its more serious moments and commits to them better than svtfoe did. things like bee's struggle to figure out her life and what she wants are never treated in a joking manner or given an ending that feels nonsensical. it sometimes feels unexplained in the moment but there's never any sudden tone shifts in it. idk they give me similar vibes and i still think star vs couldve been a really good show if they leaned a little less into the quirkiness and fully committed to their serious plotlines
#bee and puppycat#bapc#svtfoe#star vs the forces of evil#the pig squeals#ok htis turned into a whole essay but

"Beach Day on Earthni", by Daron Nefcy
Artwork for the SVTFOE Streamily Q&A and signing panel that's going to take place on September 21st (this super low resolution is all I could find so far, except for the Starco part that Adam shared on Twitter).
It's definitely a very fanservice-y piece since it's made to, well, sell signatures, with hints of Jantom and Kelly's nonsensical presence (she's not with Tad anymore, that's neat!), but it's still the most canon post-canon piece of anything we have, and a very happy and good one at that. And that feels good.
