yes he may be from china, but clearly you know more about his own roots than he does! whenever you're watching news, jun loves it when you fill him up on some quirky background info that he didn't know about, but adds so much value to the context of the news.

man was too desperate to get out of school to understand why you choose to be a nerd. but it's hella cute, so he doesn't need to understand. he's obsessed with your quirky habits- the way you bite your lips when you're finding a topic difficult, the way your glasses slip down your nose and you irritatedly push it up again, the way you crave the hot chocolate he makes when you're under exam stress.

admires your smartness so much! WILL brag about it to everyone he meets. WILL bring up the fact you told him yesterday, in today's conversation with his members just to show off your smartness.

posts stories about you being so cute while working hard for your exams but it's just you with oiled hair, acne breaking out like hellfire, and cramming notes at breakneck speed (you don't talk to him for an hour after this, but he doesn't get why you're so embarrassed, he only sees cuteness.)

another one who WILL be nerdy with you. mingyu's always been a curious boy- even as a child, he would be drawn into new ideas easily. nothing is different now, and mingyu sits with you often when you're studying, his hands often wandering to your shoulders to massage them, and bringing you a regular supply of ramen and snacks.

you have a habit of repeating to yourself what you read, so mingyu steps in and asks you to talk to him and explain the topics to him as if you're teaching him. safe to say, he gets VERY turned on after such mock 'teaching' lessons and eventually loses focus on what you're saying.

gyu do you remember that paper i wrote last month? yeah, it got selected for a journal. you say it so nonchalantly that any other person would think you're showing off. but mingyu knows how much it means to you, and you're only downplaying it because you think mingyu won't think it to be a big deal, as most academic snobs tend to do. but lucky for you, mingyu knows exactly how precious an achievement it is to you, so he shows his appreciation to you instead of merely saying it (by showering you with kisses that make you tingle all over).

minghao

OH oh. will listen to your rants with the sweetest subtle smile on his face. will buy encyclopedias and reference books for your mini library. will take you to speaker sessions, workshops and other such informative events across the city, even places you've no idea about.

the most ardent supporter you could have asked for, he is in awe of your mental capabilities and your intelligence. you both have a lot of quality time where you're just sitting together and doing your things, but minghao values it like no other activity in the world.

hao? there's a new parcel at the door. you call him when a delivery arrives and he's at work. open it. he may not be around to see your reaction, but he can sure imagine the grin that's bursting out on your face when you squeal his name into the phone on seeing the hardcover special edition version of your favourite collection of essays.

expect eye rolls, smug smiles and hair being brushed back nonchalantly when the questions he had asked last night from your texts actually matched with the ones asked in the exam. i told you, baby, he whispers in your ear. now i want my reward, you've been drowned in books for way too long and not paying any attention to your boyfriend.

it was a surprise to him as well when he realised he's got a massive sapiosexuality kink. as someone who's run as far away from the education system as he could, he doesn't even know why he finds it so attractive when you're being nerdy. but, well, he does.

he loves hearing you talk about whatever it is that you're learning lately, and sometimes something or the other catches his attention. and then, you know he'll dive right deep into it to know all about it, until his curiosity is satisfied.

chan listens so well, but you can't really blame him if he doesn't retain the information. he's elated simply to have you wrapped in his arms as you talk about what happened in your classes today, and his nose in the crook of your neck so he can smell your lovely scent. intermittently nods his head (just wants to rub his nose on the soft skin of your neck) and hums in agreement of what you just said (suppressing moans when he can feel your heartbeat quicken when he presses kisses to your neck too).

it doesn't matter what your new niche is, but he's indulging it. he admires your ability to stay focused in a field as demanding as academia, and he's all for you to go ahead with your interests and education as long as you want to learn.

you wake up to post-its on your forehead every day when chan has had to leave early for work: get out of the house and get fresh air. shampoo hair today, interview tomorrow. practice the introduction speech again. drink water and take vitamins. I got bored. I am a nerd. Here’s Seventeen as Dungeons and Dragons classes.

No warnings or pairings or anything. Just nerd shit.

Seungcheol: Paladin; This man is a fighter, but with a purpose. He fights for Seventeen, and their wellbeing. He fights for his members, for Carats… so they can know peace and justice. Sure, he’s a “beefy marshmallow” (as once seen to accurately describe him), but when it comes to his family and members and Carats? He’s going to fight to make sure they’re treated fairly and are heard (ISAC referee, anyone?)

Jeonghan: Artificer; Primary ability? Intelligence. Jeonghan has plenty of it. He’s smart and crafty, even if he punches a hot plate or two. While he has put his intelligence to his own use (really more of his alignment than anything), we know he uses those powers for good when it comes to his members. He takes care of them, in ways people don’t tend to see. Which is part of the mystery of what kind of artificer he’d be.

Joshua: Warlock; Now this man could have gone one of two ways. Cleric or warlock. Warlock seems more fitting for him, because Joshua oozes charisma. He had a whole stadium screaming his name because he wasn’t satisfied with how they sounded the first time. He’s used water magic, altered himself (running backwards!), and who’s to say “Sunday Morning” isn’t his main choice of enchantment?

Jun: Rogue; This man will come out of the shadows with an attack, and make his members absolutely lose it. His bit on camping TTT that made everyone crack up? He’s sneaky, quick, and dexterous. He is precise and fluid. He knows just where to hit. Stealthy. Skillful. Dangerous.

Hoshi: Druid; He can be a spider, tiger, or hamster. He can converse with birds. He is one with nature, and nature is one with him. We’ve seen him play a rat. He has even held the power of fire during Be the Sun. There is not a more perfect Druid in this group than him. It’s really no surprise he spends more time in tiger form than human.

Wonwoo: Wizard; Magic user, but make it bookish. Wonwoo, lover of books and big words, is the wizard in this adventure party. He tends to hang back, his magic being cast from a distance. He is quick with his tongue, so he can cast his spells with ease. He takes care of his members, putting his skills to good use. Of course, his members repay this by taking care of him as well. If one party member falls, then they all fall.

Woozi: Sorcerer; If there was anyone in this group that can weave spells and magic into what they do, it’s going to be Woozi. His musical talents are otherworldly, and well known. He uses them to draw people, even his members, into the group. He spins stories and evokes emotions, sometimes with the help of others (no sorcerer would be able to do it alone all the time). He has the gift, and he definitely uses it for good.

DK: Cleric; He’s a fighter (hello, King Arthur), but he’s also a healer. One smile on his face can heal, his laugh a salve for the soul. He will fight (sparring with Seungcheol!), but he’s going to make sure that his members and Carats are happy and healthy. As he sings, he’s weaving his magic through everyone. And he sure is one of the best healers this world has ever seen.

Mingyu: Barbarian; While barbarians are known for their rage, that’s not why he is one. He’s strong, he takes care of his members… even if he’s scared of bugs and heights. Sure, if he’s cornered he’s going to probably snap, but it would definitely take a lot for him to reach that point. Who says a barbarian can’t have a soft side?

Minghao: Monk; Harnessing his power within to perform the way he does? Lithe, powerful, graceful. Meditating when he needs to. Tea ceremonies to center himself and pay respect. He’s trained for years to reach where he is, and he’s always looking to learn and grow more. Plus, he can break a watermelon open with his bare hand, so he has Flurry of Blows down.

Seungkwan: Bard; Athlete, singer, dancer, jokester… he commands a room, an audience, or even an entire stadium. He puts these skills to use to heal his members, inspire others, and find allies in some of the unlikeliest of places. He’s not just a performer, he’s magic.

Vernon: Ranger; Sure he’s surrounded by twelve other guys, but this man could exist alone and be perfectly okay. He’s just some dude. He likes doing his own thing, but can just as easily be comfortable with the others. Just because he’s scared of bugs, doesn’t mean he won’t fight them if his members need him to (giant moths beware). He definitely knows how to speak with animals, and he definitely feels comfortable within nature.

Chan: Fighter; Future of kpop? More like fighter of kpop. He has twelve older brothers to contend with, a demanding industry… he knows how to fight to get what he wants. He’s well rounded in his skills, so he’s going to use everything he’s got to be victorious. Strength and dexterity. He’s trained for anything that gets thrown at him, though his own members can manage to take him off guard.

SUMMARY: you were always a quiet and shy girl, keeping yourself out of trouble and out of everyone’s way. nobody knew you or paid you any mind. you had your friends and they had you, that was enough. having a slight crush on the popular guy at school you “accidentally” get involved with him for a school project. keeping your feeling’s hidden, Jake begins to fall for you. seeing that you weren’t just a nerd, you were so much more. and he was willing to risk everything, even his reputation to be with you, even if it meant turning down the popular girl, Jang Wonyoung.

Vernon raised his eyebrow at your actions but didn’t say anything. something was wrong and they all knew it. seeing how frustrated and angry you were, they waited until you calmed down before asking questions. you let out a fake cry, lifting your head up. “i hate my life.”

Vernon nodded, “noted.” Giselle glared at her boyfriend, kicking him under the table causing him to shrug. she sighed and looked at you. “babe, what happened?” you shook your head, sighing. “i just became Jake’s project partner…”

“WHAT?!” Giselle, Vernon, Yeonjun and Mark all said in unison, staring at you wide eyed. you nodded slowly, “yup.” you popped the ‘p’. you clenched your jaw. you guys were currently sitting in the student lounge, it was lunchtime but you didn’t feel like eating.

explaining to your friends how it “happened” you let them go, since they were all hungry. you had no appetite but you were hungry. the scene kept replaying and replaying in your head, you hated becoming Jake’s partner. it meant the two of you had to see each other often. it wouldn’t turn out good for you, and you knew it.

you hated yourself for giving your number to him after class, because he wanted to text you his address where the two of you could start on your stupid project. you now had your……no, your crush now had your number. you were staring at you phone, waiting. it was still too early for him to send you a text since school was still on.

seungcheol:

makes it a competition to see who can come out of the maze the fastest. intentionally booked it during the day, bc there was no way he was going to risk going in the evening and scaring himself to death while surrounded by stalks of corn. zooms through the maze like he's the flash or something, only encounters one member (hansol, who looks extremely lost) before he manages to escape in just under 2 hours. makes sure to greet every member that comes out after him to tell them that he won

jeonghan:

goes in, like, 5 times. he keeps pretending to go in before just walking back out again, and poor junhui has to be the one to eventually walk all the way back to the maze entrance, grab jeonghan's hand, and physically drag him through the first few turns of the maze, bc seungcheol insisted that everyone had to take part in this competition. is terrible at escaping mazes, tells junhui they should just give up. starts singing really obnoxiously about how they're all gonna die here and how this really was a bad idea and he should have just stayed at home. even so, he n junhui end up being the 4th and 5th people to leave the maze, only bc junhui was so excited to escape (and everyone else was so terrible) 

joshua:

probably one of the most chill about the maze. was saddled with seokmin bc the younger man was way too scared to enter the maze by himself. is the one that tells all of them as they're entering the maze that if they just stick together they could make it out of the maze super quickly and all at once… no one listens to him. holds seokmin's hand the entire time; reassures him every few minutes that they will manage to escape the maze eventually n they won't be stuck here forever. strolls super casually through the maze like they're taking a walk in the countryside, which they basically are. that is, until his hay fever starts to be activated (by corn, of all things) and so he has to start hurrying along to get out of the sneeze maze

junhui:

was almost going to beat seungcheol before jeonghan sent them all a photo of him still standing at the entrance. was told to go back to the beginning and retrieve their second eldest member bc apparently escaping a corn maze was an activity in which participation was mandatory. nevertheless, he is Unfazed!! practically skips through the maze, despite jeonghan being the personification of doom and gloom behind him, pats his hyung on the back n tells him not to worry n that they'll get out soon :D

hoshi:

competitive for all of half an hour before his vision starts blurring and all he can see are giant green walls. gets lost, tells himself that he'll be great at living the rest of his life as a Nature Man in the maze. sits in the dead end for a good hour or so. somehow manages to make friends with five sparrows in the maze. is considering whether he should begin his tiger transformation in the middle of the corn maze when he's found by one of the workers who apparently was watching him talk to the sparrows for an hour straight. ends up being escorted out of the maze by them

wonwoo:

has to go really slowly bc mingyu refuses to let go of his shirt. could have definitely beaten seungcheol if he wanted to, bc he's a nerd and actually studied how to escape corn mazes during the drive there. keeps saying "maize maze" over and over again to himself. doesn't get lost, but does run into many dead ends bc mingyu keeps tugging him into a path that he thinks is safer. almost walks straight into the hedge at one point. demands that mingyu let him climb onto his back, is almost able to see over the top of the maze with their combined height. manages to drag mingyu out of the maze eventually

woozi:

walks really leisurely. he knows he's not going to win the competition that seungcheol set up, so he takes his time. he might not enjoy socialising and going out of his studio, but being in a blissfully quiet maze (punctuated occasionally by the members' screams) helps relax him and clear his mind. runs into dead ends half of the time, but that's okay bc it only prolongs his walks. composes the hook of five different songs in his head as he's staring up at the blue sky. gets told off by seungcheol at the end for not having any sort of competitive spirit at all. had a good time, but probably wouldn't go again bc the soles of his feet hurt and his cheeks were a little bit irritated from being brushed against the leaves of corn constantly

minghao:

is somehow super speedy at finishing the maze. ditches mingyu with wonwoo as soon as he sees the elder, then has disappeared round the corner before wonwoo can even start voicing a complaint. is grinning the entire time, practically skipping through the maze. almost runs over a mother with her daughter, stops for a few minutes to say hello and has a really sweet exchange with the girl who won't stop telling him how handsome he looks. gets really shy and blushes afterwards, spends a whole five minutes collecting himself before he's back on track towards his goal again. is the 3rd to leave the maze

mingyu:

coward. tries to hold onto minghao the entire time, is then dumped onto wonwoo. subsequently spends the entire maze gripping onto wonwoo's shirt tightly so that he can't saddle him with another member like that traitor minghao did. shakes so badly the whole time, even though it's daylight and actually kind of hot in the maze. insists that he has The Best intuition and keeps on leading him and wonwoo down dead ends. screams every time the leaves brush against his arm. practically crawls out of the exit of the maze, still clinging to wonwoo's shirt, and vows to never ever go into one of those things again

dokyeom:

isn't really scared like mingyu, but is very much worried that he'll get lost and never ever be able to come out. holds joshua's hand the entire time. wanted to backhug the guy and practically hang off him the entire time, but shua said no bc it would be difficult to walk. has an almost panic attack four times. is worriedly rambling to himself about how they'll survive if they get stuck during nightfall when it's cold. thankfully managed to somehow have a packet of tissues in his pocket, constantly gives them to his hyung whose nose is suddenly running like crazy

seungkwan:

super competitive, is sure that he'll be the one to leave the maze the fastest. was originally in a three with the other maknaes, before hansol mysteriously disappeared into thin air. chan pushed him into the hedge at one point, and when he emerged, sputtering leaves and outrage, he'd found the youngest had bolted and left him alone. stormed through the maze, simmering with anger the entire time. every dead end he encountered made him angrier, and he probably ended up encountering all the dead ends possible. was one of the last to exit the maze, and was so exhausted that he let himself rest for a few hours during the drive back before promptly recharging in the restaurant and tackling chan to the floor. they ended up getting kicked out of the restaurant. 

vernon:

was originally in a group of three with seungkwan and chan, managed to somehow lose both of them and end up wandering through the maze by himself. tries to yell for them, hears nothing back. his phone is dead too, so he gives up and lets himself walk round in circles in the maze. encounters one (1) other person and that's seungcheol, who barely glances at him before zooming off again. has to be escorted out of the maze by a worker like hoshi, but it takes him way longer to be found bc he keeps on moving around so it looks like he knows where he's going. even though he really, really doesn't.

chan:

second to exit the maze. originally had a plan for all three of the maknaes to stick together and leave as quickly as possible, but then everything kinda fell apart when hansol disappeared so he decided to make seungkwan disappear too by pushing him into the corn and running away. did the whole 'keep your hand on the right wall' thing, was amazed to find out it worked when he left the maze to find only seungcheol standing there. begged the eldest to buy him ice cream while they waited for the others to come out. ended up falling asleep on a nearby bench with the half-eaten ice cream, was almost forgotten at the maze by seungcheol when they were leaving
