headcanons for the celestial family in svens au because i started thinking and couldn't stop:

sun, moon & earth were all made to be equals. moon had his intellect, sun had his magic, and earth had her compassion (and she's good with IT :] feel the need to include that since she's learning it in canon and !!!!!!!)

mercury & earth have tea parties together :] sun usually helps them with the baking for it - sometimes joining in

moon, mars & mercury regularly prank the other siblings. they have prank wars on each other. saturn gets caught in the crossfire a lot-

actually speaking of saturn, i imagine they'd really like jewelry. yes this is solely because saturn has rings but hush i like it

neptune is just the chillest dude ever. they got very little problems and is usually the one to calm everyone down during a stressful event

sven's the type of dad to send a really outdated meme to the family groupchat and laugh about it. neptune eggs him on. the other siblings hate them for it

jupiter's the tallest cause. yknow.

jupiter regularly makes fun of suns height because sun always talks about how he should be the tallest since he's the sun - which is the biggest thing in the solar system.

eclipse was either not that big of a problem or /was/ a problem until his redemption arc (also i'd like to imagine he was sort of a failed creation by moon by using his own code to make another animatronic???)

earth and eclipse are besties in this universe too. anyone else & he hisses like a feral cat. i accept zero criticism.

jupiter & saturn are best friends as well and idk how to explain my reasoning for this they just are

RICHARD STRAUSS’S ARIADNE AUF NAXOS AT LA SCALA, APRIL 26, 2022

My third task as a temporary stand-in over here is probably the trickiest yet. Anything created by Hugo von Hofmannsthal and Richard Strauss (i.e. any of the six operas they wrote together) is guaranteed to deliver—among other things—a great deal of complexity. I won’t be able to transform my Ariadne auf Naxos experience into a coherent, harmonious sweeping report, so here’s what I’m going to do. First, a comprehensive synopsis. Then, I’ll briefly complain about what I didn’t like. Then I’ll skip the in-between part, and proceed to praise what I truly liked. (If you think this plan is rather poor—I agree. Please don’t forget I’m new on the job). Within the large palace of a rich and powerful man (some say it’s the richest man in Vienna’s), it’s just another ordinary day. Two groups of artists are about to perform two theatrical offerings in front of the owner’s guests: a new opera seria reviving the myth of Ariadne (portrayed—as it should be—by a veritable Primadonna) and an improvised comedic divertissement featuring Zerbinetta and four friends/suitors of hers (Harlekin, Scaramuccio, Truffaldin, Brighella). When the get-go is only minutes away, a message from the omnipotent patron causes a turmoil: the two entries—opera seria and comedic divertissement—are to be merged into one. The Composer (aka Komponist) must axe here and there; the Italian masks must sneak into the storyline and adapt. The warm-up phase gets pretty chaotic and heated, until the curtain is pulled back. (This is where the curtain actually comes down, and the first part—the libretto calls it a Prologue—ends. After intermission, the very opera [or, the second and final part] begins).

Ariadne has been abandoned on Naxos by Theseus. Alone in the whole universe and beyond, she refuses to listen to Zerbinetta and her companions (who are all trying to cheer her up); but as soon as a solitary god—Bacchus—somehow arrives on the island, everything will change. Step two. The didn’t like chapter has to concern Sven-Eric Bechtolf’s staging. It seemed to do very little throughout; when it did attempt something, it was merely on the funny/lightweight side of Ariadne auf Naxos. It would aim for a laugh, a smile maybe from time to time, and nothing more. Step three… To me, it was Michael Boder and the orchestra’s show all along. They amounted to a relatively small ensemble (that’s what the score prescribes), but they sounded huge. They also sounded tiny. And witty, solemn, thunderous, jiggly... Just about as mercurial as they come, their Ariadne felt like a terrific full-scale novel which won’t settle for a single genre. Most of the Prologue made me think of a massive, extended recitativo secco, constantly enriched with miniature gems. (As an example: the piano fragments—often surfacing in the middle of teasing, or even prankish situations—were remarkably fascinating: hazy, somewhat eerie, and extremely modern). The opera itself was more of Richard Strauss being Richard Strauss. A luxuriant musical narrative dominated by female voices. And a wide, unperturbed trajectory/arc from Claudio Monteverdi’s Arianna to young Mozart to Richard Wagner’s Ring (or Tristan und Isolde—you decide) to… somewhere else. (The flatness of the staging had a curious side effect. While an entirely good version of Ariadne auf Naxos is likely to leave one exhausted [like, I only need the company of Vera Stanhope and Jane Marple for a while, thank you…], this specific encounter worked almost as a bait: I’m already eager for another try).

Shirktron

Ok but listen, someone out there is an alternate universe where all the Shirks must ban together and form Shirktron. Shiro is back with Black and somehow being on a team with himself is so much more exhausting. He’s running on like five cups of space coffee and two hours of sleep and almost every mission starts with “Don’t make me turn this mech around.” 

Kuro gets Blue because let’s face it he’s probably the most brainwashed and if Blue is the “mother lion” that fosters a pilot’s potential then she’d be the most willing to take in Kuro. That boy’s gonna need the most guidance and trust. He’s the one that really needs to grow, even more so than the other Shiros. Kuro of course hates all of this and keeps insisting he should be the head and attempts mutiny every chance he gets. 

Sven gets Green because being friends with someone who goes on and on about alternate realities has probably given him a healthy sense of curiosity. Also, he’s the first one to run to a stranger’s defense, so he should get the shield. He thinks everything about this new reality is a lot more weird than he thought it’d be, but he’s getting the hang of things. 

Keith’s Holo-Shiro gets Red. Since he was created by Keith’s mind, it makes him the most compatible with Keith’s lion. Holo-Shiro is also very temperamental and mercurial, just like the lion. This makes them both kind of a pain to work with, and thanks to their conflicting feelings on Keith, Red and Holo-Shiro are often at odds with even one another, let alone the rest of the team. 

Kuron still wants to pilot Black, and he takes her rejection pretty hard. He does end up with Yellow though. Despite however the galra “reprogrammed” his brain, he still clings to Shiro’s memories of his team and loves them all dearly. For this reason, he gets a lion that reflects his kind and caring temperament. He still feels insecure about having “not been good enough” for the Black lion though. He tries his best to be a team player. Shiro even calls him “brother” once, and Kuron’s never been happier.
