what made you ship it? i think that one scene i can't remember what chapter where hsiao is complementing saiko's creativity w her kagune (i should remember the chapter i bring it up so often, it was during the clown siege) and i think that was the first time i really considered it and i find more every re-read. unfortunately there's literally nothing in the anime...

what are your favorite things about the ship? as a lesbian i love lesbians and seeing beautiful women together okay but aside from that i think they balance each other out a lot. hsiao seems very career focused and saiko is ... saiko, so i think saiko helps hsiao chill out while hsiao helps saiko focus

is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? the fact that i ship it at all sigh guys this ship is so cute pls get on board

what made you ship it? i think what got me there was the joker side story bc it added a lot of depth to their relationship. then of course i noticed other things from the main story as well, like the fact that they're kinda inseparable...suzuya squad is close but those two are ALWAYS together like okay i see how it is

what are your favorite things about the ship? they kinda mutually look out for each other, also i think a common theme w the ships i've been asked about is that i love when they offer something that the other doesn't have and come together to this kind of "completion" or balance. hanbee is very emotionally driven/gentle and not super brave most of the time while juuzou is much more aggressive but definitely struggles with approaching emotions, and while in re he can handle other people's emotions well, he sometimes doesn't know what to do with his own other than disregard it, so i think they balance each other out well. hanbee encourages juuzou to be in touch with his feelings and juuzou encourages hanbee to be more bold, both in combat and life in general

is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? i don't think so? i never see anyone talk about it so

My Own Personal Additions:

Juuzou starts writing and drawing on Kaneki when he's overwhelmed or stressed or anything of the sorts.

Kaneki calls them his kids, it happened through one joke and then became this 'close friend joke' that only they get. (Because of the suspenders and belt hcs)

Juuzou explores more make-up, all of it, they eventually get incredibly good at it before teaching Naki how to.

Naki and Juuzou eventually convince Kaneki to try make-up. Turns out Kaneki loves dramatic eyeliner, but, likes soft make-up otherwise. (eyeshadow, lipstick, etc.)

This would have to happen after ghouls get decriminalized, but these three would make good friends

Juuzou already knows Kaneki since Hide introduced them, and Naki knows Kaneki from ghoul stuff, but Ken made the mistake of hanging around with both of them at the same time and they immediately hit it off

Juuzou is used to humans being creeped out by him for being generally weird, and Naki is used to ghouls not liking him for being over emotional, so they form a strange little bond over it. Naki will loudly and publicly threaten people who are mean to Suzuya

Naki and Juuzou are high empathy and low empathy respectively and when together, they almost balance each other. When one reacts too much or too little to something, the other is socially inept enough to just come right out and say the specific thing the other is doing wrong instead of neurotypically dance around it. Where Ayato would have yelled at Naki, Juuzou just says “When you cry outside people don’t like that so you should do that somewhere else, come on I know an alley,” and that actually works. Shinohara is amazed that he can try to explain that he shouldn’t grab people for days but all it takes is Naki saying “don’t touch unless I say you can or I’ll bite you” for him to get it

When Kaneki is with both of them it’s mostly just him trying to stop them from committing crimes. On their own they’re chaotic enough but together they become a positive feedback loop of bad ideas. On more that one occasion he’s grabbed onto Juuzou’s suspenders and Naki’s belt with his kagune like a leash

It took awhile of hanging out with them for Naki start thinking about how they seem... nicer than Jason. He talked with Ken about Oomori, and they both shared their experiences with him. Turns out he wasn’t good to Naki either, but he was Naki’s first big emotional connection and took advantage of that. Now that he has some better friends, he’s working through that, trying to unpack his time with him and understand what things Jason did that were actually parts of a healthy relationship and which parts were not. Kaneki is pretty good at helping him with it

Naki stims by tapping the tip of Koukaku against surfaces, and Juuzou has picked it up, using pens and sticks in place of the kagune

Ken has been trying to show Naki how to read, but he gets frustrated really easily when he doesn’t understand things so it’s been slow.

Juuzou and Kaneki asked about Naki’s eyeshadow, Juuzou because he doesn’t know what it is and Ken because he doesn’t know how he got it, and finds that apparently he’s been rubbing ink out of old magazines for the pigment. That’s probably not good for his skin so Kaneki got him some cheap makeup so he would at least not give himself dermatitis. The next day Ken finds both Naki and Juuzou wearing it, they boys have a new shared interest and Suzuya keeps looking at himself in reflections because it turns out they can both rock it

when juuzo showed up at your doorstep without so much as a text, you knew something was wrong. you could see it in the way his eyes were unfocused and red-rimmed, in the slight tremble of his hands, and the way his bottom lip quivered when he tore his gaze from the floor to meet yours. it was a drastic change from his usual bubbly and eccentric demeanor, and it worried you to see him in such a state.

your boyfriend had shown up clad in CCG gear, his knuckles white from the effort of holding onto his quinque, and based on the state of his appearance, you could only assume that he had one hell of an evening.

as juuzo met your gaze, a fire had been ignited. his features twisted into anger and grief, his lips curling back into a cruel snarl as he pointed the quinque at you. “if ghouls didn’t exist, then… shinohara-san would be okay, right?” he asks, his voice oddly calm despite the emotion swirling in his gaze.

your voice dies in your throat as you watch juuzo tilt his head at you, the sharp end of his quinque digging into the meat of your chest. your throat constricts, tears bubbling at your lashline as you open your mouth to speak.

“ghouls are abominations. all they know to do is take. just like that ghoul was going to take shinohara-san from me.” he murmurs, interrupting you as his weapon falls limp at his side.

you can’t bring yourself to do anything but nod, opening your door further as you gesture for your distraught lover to come inside. a flicker of recognition passes through juuzo’s gaze as he peers into your apartment, a picture frame of your first date with him catching his attention. he swallows thickly, his trembling fingers gently reaching out to wipe away your tears.

that leaves you here, with a cold cup of tea on your coffee table and juuzo in your arms. he refused to talk about what happened earlier that night, but now that the sun had risen and he was seemingly out of tears to shed, the young man finally speaks up.

“i’m sorry,” he mumbles, his voice hoarse and cracking. juuzo’s fingers idly toy with the hem of your shirt as he takes a deep breath. “i was so angry that i…“

juuzo’s voice trails off, his arms snaking around your midsection as he rests his head on your chest again. he doesn’t say anything more than that, simply opting to listen to the steady beat of your heart.

“you don’t have to talk about anything until you’re ready, juu.” you murmur, you fingers threading through his hair. you could piece two and two together — a mission went wrong and shinohara was hurt as a result. you knew how special that man was to juuzo, and you could understand why he was so upset.

juuzo quietly hums in response, his cold fingers reaching beneath your shirt to soak up the warmth your skin provided. as you gaze down at him, you recognize the way his eyes seemed unfocused — staring at everything and soaking in nothing. oh, juuzo.

you press a gentle kiss to the crown of his head, feeling the way his breath shudders and a shiver wracks down his spine, his arms tightening around you as if you would disappear too.

“i love you, juu.” you whisper, unsure of what else to say. juuzo’s throat bobs as he swallows, his tongue darting out to wet his lips.

“i love you too.”

Juuzou Suzuya relationship headcannons

-Juuzou is... a very interesting partner

-Don't get me wrong, he's a wonderful boyfriend, he's just a tad bit messed up

-He's always touching you, holding your hand, draping himself over your lap or shoulder, sometimes he'll even jump onto you shoulders and let you carry him around

-He just loves you so much, he needs to be as close to you as possible at all times!

-Loveessss kissing you! his favorite thing to do is surprise attack you with kisses when you least expect it

- They're mostly short, sweet pecks on the mouth or cheek, but they are full of energy and passion so you don't mind

-He loves it when you trace his stitches! It feels nice to him, sometimes it even puts him to sleep

-Speaking of sleeping, this man is a wildcard, and that applies to his sleeping habits

-Sometimes, he'll sleep at night, and then sometimes he falls asleep in the middle of the day with no warning, you can't predict when it will happen, it just does

-The same applies to his cuddling habits whilst sleeping, any and every position you can think of he will do over the course of the night

-If you work for the CCG, he finds time during every shift to pop in and say hello, ask for kisses, steal your snacks, see what case your working...

- Refuses to let you on dangerous missions without him (he's scared you'll get hurt), and he absolutely will throw a fit at the higher ups if they try to separate you

-It's hard to tell he worries though, he makes sure to keep up his carefree attitude so you don't catch on

-Shows you off to EVERYONE. The quinx squad (and everyone else) are bombarded with comments about you

-"Hey! Haise, look at how beautiful my Y/N looks today!"

-"Juuzou, they look beautiful, but you've shown me this picture seven times today..."

-It takes a very long time for Juuzou to open up to you, he has a lot of trauma and he would rather ignore it than talk about it

-Eventually though, he'll reveal bits and pieces of his life before telling you everything

-Loves going on fun little dates with you! He has so much energy, so he enjoys going out and doing things rather than staying at home

-You're the only person he will share his snacks with (truly the highest honor)

-All and all, he loves you, and he doesn't plan on letting you go anytime soon

Juuzou Suzuya & Control yap p. 1/2

(Tokyo Ghoul:re spoilers)

The way Juuzou sees parental figures is very much skewed given the abuse he suffered at the hands of Big Madam. So, once he associates Shinohara with a father figure (which is even further drilled into him by Mrs Shinohara telling him that Yukinori saw him as a son), even though Shinohara was kind to Juuzou in a way Big Madam wasn't, he approaches the situation the same way, giving him a seemingly morally correct yet violent goal to pursue. Juuzou recognizes Big Madam hurt him and loves her regardless, but even with that realization, he's still playing his puppet role.

Juuzou is still just a weapon.

While as a child he obeyed every order Big Madam gave him, as an adult he obeys every order he's given by the CCG higher ups BECAUSE he thinks that's what Shinohara, his supposed father figure, would want. He thinks that he's supposed to BECOME Shinohara just because Shinohara showed him kindness.

He can't make decisions for himself, because he's never been allowed to, so he doesn't know how. Once he was out of Big Madam's control, he was forced to re-live his trauma by killing again, just because killing ghouls is considered "morally acceptable".

Even though it may not seem like it at first glance, letting him channel his violence the same way he did when he used to be a scrapper, RETRAUMATIZES him.

So even though he gets better and develops empathy (In the Joker chapter of Tokyo Ghoul:re, he stops a girl from being groped on the train because he's been through it as well.) and care (for Shinohara and his own subordinates who seem to trust him a lot), at his core he's still the same traumatized Juuzou; That much is obvious in the way he approaches his rematch with Kurona, demonstrating that he's changed but not completely, because he's willing to kill his friend Sasaki without much thought just because he was told to, and in saying that he smiles the same smile he'd given Big Madam.

Juuzou associates parents with control, and that includes Shinohara, which breaks my heart! So once Shinohara wakes up they seriously need to talk so he can unlearn some of that😭

I haven't finished Tokyo Ghoul:re yet but I already know the ending is rushed and doesn't show anything like that.

I wish Juuzou's character arc included him learning to decide for himself rather than just going along with what everyone says. It's unlikely for him to fully ever recover from his trauma, but that would've been a massive step forward.

[I know I didn't say anything that hasn't been said before, but this is just a way for me to metabolize the chapter I just read, because it makes sense but it still upsets me greatly. As someone else put it, Juuzou's character arcs stagnates in :re. There's still 80 chapters or so for me to read and I kinda lost interest because I'm not liking this one eyed king kaneki making shitty decisions thing. The fact there's only like 4 Juuzou fics makes me wanna kms!!]

NOBODY'S SOLDIER: CHAPTER 3: You're somebody else

Hide opened the door to the conference room slowly, then entered and sat at the centre of the empty table. He was the first to arrive, surrounded by the silence of the morning, so loud it seemed to crash him. He sighed, waiting for the door to open, for everything to start. The first meeting with the Quinx squad, the first time he would see Haise Sasaki and speak to him. He could've say no, refuse to participate their charade and Akira would've probably understand. But, like a soldier, there he was, obeying orders.

"I need to know," he whispered to himself as a reminder of all those past years. I need to know what happened to him. Without even the time to think further, the door opened swiftly, and Akira entered, followed by the whole Quinx squad.

Haise studied the man sitting at the table, positioning in front of him with a polite smile. Everyone at CCG knew Hideyoshi Nagachika, and they all warned Haise about their connection. He and Kaneki were friends for a long time, inseparable,  until something horrible happened. Akira didn't dive into details, but a feeling in the back of Haise's memory was moving: a hidden memory pulsing and throbbing, tired of being hidden. A sense of hunger, deprivation, violence and especially regret hit him in the stomach. "Thank you for meeting with us. I understand you've left the field for quite some time, but we face a very intricate case." He managed to say, reciting the words like a robot. Hide nodded, forcing to put on a natural face, but trembling inside: he had the same eyes, the same face and voice, but he just wasn't Kaneki . It was like a puppet moved by invisible strings, a vicious joke. Hide stifled a sigh, scanning Haise while he kept describing the case . He only wanted to catch a movement, a blink, any glimpse of his forgotten self that was still there, somewhere under all the politeness and technical jargon . But he didn't; Haise kept talking relentlessly, describing investigations, failures and errors they faced in the past months. "The last time we faced Torso we were about to catch him, but someone got in the way." "Who?" Hide spoke up for the first time, freezing the whole room, who turned at Sasaki, waiting impatiently for his answer. "S-level ghoul, Serpent." Haise spoke formally, but his voice quivered. "We battled and..." he paused, weighing his words. "...I admit, I've lost control. I wanted to protect my subordinates, but in doing so, I let them both escape."

There it was. A twitch on the forehead, the way he kept talking about his own errors, the guilt in his voice . The mask was falling. "I see. It can happen." Haise stood silent for endless seconds, studying the other one like in a silent battle of secrets . " Well." he finally said, getting up " That's all. From now on, our squad will work with Suzuya on the case. I hope we can count on your help, Nagachika." he lent his hand to him. Hide got up in what seemed slow motion, shaking hands. "I won't let you down, Investigator Sasaki." Good acting, Kaneki.

Akira sighed in relief, closing the door and staying alone with Hide. "Well, we did it," he said, getting up and ready to leave. "Hide." She stopped him, crossing her arms. "I don't have to tell you that he's not your friend, right?" Hide didn't answer, without even looking at her. "I know it doesn't look like it, but Haise is happy here. His squad loves him, he is loyal to the CCG and most importantly, he's safe." "He was safe when he was human." he blurted, showing again the determined face of some days before. "Now he's only a time bomb that could destroy it all. He shouldn't be even talking to me." Akira fell silent, her head full of doubts. The meeting between Hide and the Quinx was dictated by Director Washuu himself, and she still could not find a good reason why. For the first time, she had tried to argue orders, only to receive a glacial stare, silencing any further protest. She got closer to him, staring at his stormy brown eyes. If Haise were there instead of him, it would have been easier: a solid punch and some motherly advice, and he would have behaved. But Hide was neither a wild ghoul to tame nor a soldier to command. She gently put her arm on his shoulder. "I trust you. And I know you'll do the right thing." Hide lowered his eyes and sighed. "I'll try." And then left the office.

Akira was right: Haise looked happy in his fake life and Quinx seemed to really care for him. But still, only recalling the meeting felt wrong, like he talked to an impostor. Somebody else, who took the palce of his best friend. Who was Haise Sasaki?

A muffled screech distracted him, and he followed the sound, finding an open door to a small office, where the new psychologist was fiddling with a big brown armchair.

"Do you need help?" he approached and she smiled at him. "Oh, hi. Well, yes. I asked for new furniture and it came today. Finally that horrible 50s couch was dumped away!" Hide laughed, while pushing the armchair in the room and then admired the place: there was a small desk, another two chairs and a small table. The walls were decorated only by a large degree in Psychology. "Wow," he said, following the traces of ink. "Harvard! What, like it's hard?" She laughed confused "What?" Hide shook his head "Nothing, it was a reference. Have you not seen Legally Blonde ?" She smiled. " I'll have to catch up." He didn't answer, reading the name on the paper. " Mitsurugi?" "Yes." she sighed, reciting the phrase she had to say many times in the past days. "My father was Hikari Mitsuguri, the prosecutor who conducted many trials against ghouls, at least when they were still being held." Hide raised his hands. "Don't worry, I won't ask again. I know something about having famous fathers." he looked away from the degree, staring at her dark eyes. "How is the work going?" Sayu raised her shoulders "Well, you know how investigators are."

"Stubborn and full of secrets?" he laughed, and she couldn't help but smile amused "Yes, I know." Hide continued "But if you can face them like you did with Akira, they will be lining up outside." Sayu shrugged "If they are so prone to authority and famous surnames like her, then sure." She fell silent for some istants, then pointed at the new chairs. "And if you are more convinced by small talk and furniture, just remember that we can talk about everything. It's my job, after all." Hide observed the brown, shiny armchairs: there was a lot he wanted to talk about, a burden carried for many years, a secret that could destroy all he had been building up. Maybe talking about it would've lift the weight, and give him some breath. "Remember: anything you say in therapy is protected by professional secrecy. I can't reveal a thing and honestly, I won't." Sayu added like she was reading his mind.

Hide took a long breath, then flashed a smile. "There is something." And proceeded to sit on the comfy chair.

How the kids feel about their assigned parents:

Urie: has a lot of respect for Amon as an investigator and a man (may or may not have the tiniest bit of admiration crush on him), doesn't like Haise. Will do chores if Amon asks him, mostly ignores Haise.

Kurona: Amon is the last person she sort of respects, Haise frustrates her but she works well with him (additionally, she hates Quinx Squad's proximity with Suzuya Squad. she bolts whenever they come over)

Saiko: she just likes both of them a lot

Shiragin: he respects both of them a lot, but feels more comfortable confiding in Amon, since he's a lot older than him, unlike Haise (think Fura).

Mucchan: he respects Haise as his teacher and supervisor + very crushing on him - but he's scared of Amon: very big and buff man who speaks mostly with his eyes? big no from him.

A little bit about the parents as well:

Haise: he wishes Urie would open up to him at least enough to work together + he gathered that Kurona knew his previous self but they're not allowed to talk about it

Amon: at this time, he's still doing very badly and doesn't actively tries to connect with others, which is why he was placed in the Château in the first place. doesn't get why Mutsuki is so jumpy but he leaves him alone as a result. Following this idea from my other fics, he recognizes Urie's name and since Mikito took care of him before he died, he tries his best to take care of Kuki in return - he thinks he's doing a bad job but everyone is ":0 holy shit Urie listens to him wtf". He's pretty awkward around Shirazu, especially at first. Saiko adopted him immediately and she doesn't mind if he stays silent while she rants so they get along well + they both like eating + he actually tries her video games when she proposes. About Kurona, she's there because he advocated to get her out of Cochlea so he tries his best for her. he had a bit of trouble adapting to her new personality, constantly comparing her to the one he used to know but he's gotten over it now

Top 5 underrated girls personality-wise?

Mine are Reno, Suzuya, Colorado, Minnie, and Formie (cause she's just memes to everyone else)

I have conflicting opinions about the whole labeling a shipgirl as underrated thing to begin with, as with a cast of almost 600 characters (including collab and alt versions) it's a given that a lot of shipgirls will be underrated and that the fandom and marketing would latch to a few, maybe 50 or so beloved characters. But also yeah, there's a lot of shipgirls the community kinda doesn't pay attention to for whatever reason.

Some of the shipgirls I will mention are personal favorites of mine btw

1. Ting An. I just love her sigma female grindset personality, it's so funny. If Akashi weren't as memeable, but that's a 1-sentence summary that's honestly not really accurate.

2. Kuybyshev. She's such a sweet and caring girl who will also chain you to the bed and make you forget even the language you speak. But also she's incredibly adorable. That smile she has is of someone that has gone through a lot of bs - at least in my headcanons.

3. Mikuma. She's Mogami's little sister, and is very insecure about herself. Haven't done much research into why but it's probably related to her irl history or something.

4. Revenge. Her little sister Royal Oak truly got the better end of the deal in terms of popularity. Revenge is so scared of authority, even if she wholly respects you as the commander.

5. Mainz. Do you really think I could go a whole "5 underrated shipgirls?" post without mentioning my babygirl? She's a woman that yearns for a purpose in life, who is relied upon by her friends but she can't understand why as she sees herself as an unremarkable person.

Moments or characters in Tokyo Ghoul you found funny in a dark and or ironic way? Kaiko, surprisingly, is very funny to me in an unhinged, petty old man way, like when he stunts on Take, Takeomi, Yusa, etc and speaks on his resentment towards Kishou and Kuzen. I also like how Ishida makes his smiling audible (?); like when he's doing it, there's little sound effect captions that read "smirk/smile". I feel bad for Takeomi when he got shoulder stabbed, but couldn't help but laugh a little when Kaiko asked him right after "What's the matter 😈? Shoulder acting up 😈😈? Hm 😈😈😈?".

Is it wrong if I say the entirety of it. I absolutely agree with everything you've said here about Kaiko, but throughout my reading I just found pretty much every instance of Kaneki's monologues amusing, probably because it was pretty much my first proper angst-ish manga and I wasn't used to that sort of internal lament, but come on. There's a reason people will buy "I am tragedy" as an actual line at a surface level. HOWEVER the ultimate moment for me? Chapter 144. Opens up strong, titled "The Death Of Kaneki",

Speech bubbles presumably narrated by Furuta declare the matchup like a sport, the actual space around them is drawn a distorted stadium, Juuzou (and Hanbee) vs. Ken Kaneki. The strongest fighters of their respective sides, powerhouses who both have everything to lose if they can't win this fight, caricatures of Kaneki's allies cheer him on with their usual, unquestioning loyalty and religious-like love. He announces he won't hold back against his former friend.

On Suzuya's side?

No one is cheering for him in this warped image. He is not particularly driven or enthusiastic. He's neutral, exhausted, his panel is small. "I have something to protect too, Hai- I mean, Kaneki."

A much larger panel is dedicated to Touka, hands folded like a prayer, begging Kaneki to win.

The readers, the characters, everyone has been anticipating this fight between the two strongest currently alive characters for multiple chapters, if not since Juuzou first stole Kaneki's wallet and he was introduced in the first place.

prologue: where does it begin?
