Okay Hi Hello here is the thing—

Alrighty, so I think I’ve said it a few times by now, but the Suzuki’s currently live in Yasoinaba. They used to live in Port Island, but ended up moving bc papa Suzuki got a better business offer or something in that area idk. Either way, they live there now, Satoshi graduated from Gekkoukan, and Kenji did his last two years of high school at Yasogami.

So, logically, you would think Taro would also end up going to Yasogami. And he should have! That was the original plan! His lives in Inaba, he went to middle school there, and his older brother went to school there.

But that’s not how it went. He’s at Shujin. Why?

Well that has to do with one smarmy little asshole his dad met during a work trip and had the misfortune of befriending.

This guy is a piece of work. He’s the kind of person to backhandedly complement you or put you down in a way that makes you question if he actually meant it in a malicious way. He also does not like kids. Dude doesn’t like the Suzuki kids especially. He specially has it out for Taro with how meek and “not manly” he is. All three of the siblings hate this guy. It’s very possible Kenji threw hands, or at the very least wanted to.

Either way, this fucker casually floats the idea of Taro going to Shujin.

Oh, don’t you know? It’s an elite prep school over in Tokyo! It’s well known! Has high academic turnout or whatever, lot of bigwig and kids with potential go there! Why not send your youngest there? You’ve got family over there, yeah? It could be good for him! Get him to see different sights, toughen him up a bit, it’s probably better than any school this backwater town has! throw him to the wolves and let him drown.

The seed was planted. Ma and Pa Suzuki end up looking into the school, seeing the reputation, etc. etc. There's some back and forth for sure, but ultimately Taro gets shipped off.

This is fine! It's fine! He doesn't want to disappoint his parents (they won't be), he said it was fine, the school seems.... fine, they said it was good, he'll be okay. He does not tell them when the school gets less good, and even then, he's made up his mind to get through this. and it's... it's fine. He can handle it.

There are days where he wonders what would have changed if didn't agree and went to Yasogami. He probably would have been around familiar people, which means less anxiety. Maybe he would have joined the drama club, lean into theater like in middle school. Maybe he would have come out of it more confident, more sure of himself, and less quiet far sooner.

But he's here now, and he just has to make it through and survive. He likes to think he's done a good job of that so far.
