Little idea I had about real-mori being nervous around new people
+ mama Suzuki being lovely again, she just wants him to be happy (and not to get angsty but maybe she feels like she wasn’t understanding enough of Sunny when he was young and quiet and nervous and now she’s trying her hardest to be better now that she’s got a another quiet nervous little boy to take care of)
Tumblr media
I really wanted to draw him to today so here’s he (the sweetheart is drawn from memory I’m pretty sure that’s not what she looks like)

Friends to Lovers Tournament: Round 1, Side A, Match 9
Tumblr media Tumblr media
propaganda under the cut!
Iruclarazz:
LISTEN THEY ARE THE OT3 TO BEAT ALL OTHER OT3's LIKE THEY HOLD SO MUCH POWER!!!
1. THEY ARE SO FUCKING FLUFFY AND COLOURFUL AND PURE AND ADORABLE AND—*chokes on emotions* anyways they're literally the most wholesome and supportive of all ships like i can't even begin to summarize how much they care for each other
2. THEY CANONLY CALL EACH OTHER SOULMATES and even if clara and azz don't understand what a soulmate is (they're demons) they're just happy to be close to iruma.
3. whenever one of them is upset or bothered, the other two form a team and they go ALL OUT to lift the third person's mood!!! they try to solve the problem but if that's not possible, they just stay with that person and try to make them feel better so that they can face their problem with a better mood and more strength
4. they're ALWAYS together. and none of them are bothered by it!! and instead of being toxic about the need to stay close, they establish boundaries! like they have their own secrets they can't tell the others and that's totally fine! no pressure at all in their squad
5. listen these three help each other become better people!! like they bring out the best in each other and it's the most wholesome, encouraging, healthy, lovey dovey ship ever!!! like clara becomes more responsible despite her need for chaos bc she wants to make sure azz and iruma can depend on her! azz stops putting up walls and allows people to approach him because he wants to get involved in the other two's lives! and iruma learns how to set boundaries with these two where he could never say no to anyone!! like if that isn't the most awesome and perfect relationship idk what is!!!
6. one tol and two smols that's all.
THERE IS JUST SO MUCH MORE IN CANON THAT SHOWS HOW AWESOME THESE TRIO ARE AS AN OT3 BUT YEAH IT'S THE MOST BEAUTIFUL POLY SHIP I'VE EVER SEEN IN MANGA!!!
Sunnflower:
ok listen their relationship is extremely important to the plot of the game so they get a lot of focus and a lot of the stuff they say abt each other is like????? bro thats kinda fruity ngl??????? theres like. a lot of stuff i could say about them. like a lot. too much actually
so instead ill just, idk summarize their relationship and then give some fun facts abt them
Sunny and Basil are best friends! They're shown to be very close to each other, closer than they are to the rest of their friends. They rely on each other to listen when they need to vent, and like to read books together! Before the events of the game, Sunny and Basil become involved in an incident that basically tears their friend group apart. Basil keeps the secret of their involvement from everyone because he cares too much about Sunny to let him get in trouble. They then don't talk for four years, and spend the entire time pining for each other!
Basil hopes for four years that Sunny will finally come back to him, meanwhile Sunny has retreated into a perfect dreamworld he uses to cope. All of his friends are there, and everyone is happy, and the dreamworld is full of things Basil loves. The most common food item is tofu(Basil's favorite food),  there's an entire race of plant creatures that adore tofu(Basil likes to garden + his favorite food), his garden in the dreamworld is huge and has lots of flowers that represent each of his friends! Also, an important NPC says this abt Sunny and Basil's relationship: "He is special to you. A string of fate ties you together." A string of fate you say? Hmmm, I wonder why they phrased it like that...
Also, when Sunny and Basil finally do start talking again, Basil says stuff like this: "W...Wait... P-Please, SUNNY... Don't leave me... Not again..." "After all this time... you've finally come back for me. But... tomorrow... you're going away. H-HOW COULD YOU DO THAT!?!? That's mean, SUNNY. That's so mean!" Yeah... he's not doing too well...
But don't worry! After a year or two of therapy I'm sure these two can have a happy, healthy relationship!
Obviously I have a lot more to say abt them but it's all literary analysis and context clues and stuff, I just wanted to point out the more obvious stuff!

The Cast and Their Friends
So I was writing up a different Omori thing concerning an AU to procrastinate writing stuff but then I started writing this to procrastinate that so that’s where we are. Basically looking through the game, what we know, and a mixture of personal headcanons I decided to write a little thing concerning the crew of Omori and how they handle friends outside of the tight circle they all seem to have with each other.
Under a read more because oof, this got long.
KEL
Kel is perhaps one of the easier ones to look at. He’s nice, friendly, personable, and funny as all hell.
Hero might be someone who can befriend almost anyone with very little effort and seemingly just by being in the general area but Kel is someone who makes friends easily
There’s never a doubt that if you called him your friend, even if you hung out for a little bit, that he wouldn’t call you a. friend as well. He’ll believe in you, support you, and he might not give some uncle iroh level of wisdom but he’ll speak his mind and show you that he truly means everything he says
He makes friends easily, but it’s also...hard to find true friends
Everyone is fine with having the fun goofy kid as their friend, and he has some better ones that know him from the belief he has in them, the way he picks them up and helps them do better, but no one ever really gets close like the friend group does when it comes to both getting him and letting him feel so...relaxed at the same time
He never really realized until the friend group broke up and just...nothing stuck. Not the way it used to, not the way that made him feel the sort of happy that made his own shine even brighter
Every member of his basketball team wouldn’t hesitate to call him a good friend, and so would half the other teams in the division along with a good number of people in his school. Kel hasn’t been able to open up his heart to any of them
It’s part of why he tried so hard to never give up especially on Sunny. True friends are worth holding onto, and he’s never going to try to let go
AUBREY
Aubrey, of the group, is a bit more...complicated
It’s not that she isn’t a good friend, or that she can’t find friends, but from the dreamworld and hints in the real world we see that she feels a lot of her emotions
She’s a bright firework when she’s happy, she cries easily when she’s sad or overwhelmed, and her anger is loud and proud at the forefront, giving her a strong stubborn hardheadedness
And for little kids, it can be hard to find friends when you have an attitude like that, when you feel everything so much, when you’re quick to laugh or cry or argue or fight
And then she finds the group, where everyone is either willing to listen or and be patient with her, or enjoys playfully fighting back so nothing is ever too serious
It’s all she has for a time, but it’s all she needs...until the accident happens
For a time, she made friends with the hooligans, even becoming their leader, because she put her anger to the forefront and didn’t let any other emotions come through, and suddenly she’s the big scary person who doesn’t have an easy to find weak side (but who still can let her fun and loving side show, sometimes, if she feels it’s safe enough to do so)
After everything though, when she starts to hang around other people besides just her close group of friends she can manage, when she realizes that people outside of church gossipers and rude kids will appreciate you for who you are...
She still tends to stick to those she knows. There’s still a bit too much hurt in her heart to go out of her way to find people to let back into it
BASIL
Basil, of the friend group, is probably one of the ones who has the most trouble of them all making friends
Most of it isn’t really his fault, when it comes down to it; unfortunate circumstances that made a bad combo to try to make friends when he was young
At first glance he just seems like a very bright but shy kid, someone who’s quiet but still has that soft glow around them that feels like it’d be nice to relax with
But even before the accident, there was signs that Basil has been dealing with issues of anxiety, especially when it comes to the abandonment issues that stem from his parents never being around when he was younger
Most kids don’t understand why he’d be so nervous around them at times, having an unnerving jittering intensity, the way he’d get clingy at times
It all adds up into someone that most kids just don’t get or understand, and so he finds himself alone
Until he meets the group
Suddenly he’s with people who understand, who get him, who are happy and willing to help him through his anxieties when they crop up to be able to see the bright young boy shining behind them
And the one who helps more than anyone else is Sunny, who’s calm quiet presence seems to completely consume his thoughts and worries whenever he’s around
After the events of the game, Basil...he still has troubles making friends, always thinking back to the old friend group, but it’s not as bad as it once was before
He finds other people eventually who understand him, and think he’s worth putting the effort in to befriend. They might not ever be as close as the original group but, he finds companionship in others that he hasn’t in a long time
It might not be the same, but he thinks that that’s okay, everything is going to be okay
HERO
Hero is universally loved
There is not a single person who has met Hero that has not either wanted to be friends with him, or has developed a crush on him
Everyone who’s interacted with him could give you a story about how he’s either helped them or just was so charming in his interaction that they wish they could meet him again
It’s nearly impossible to meet Hero and not love him for what he brings to everything
Hero has very few people he truly considers friends
There’s acquaintances, classmates, roommates, co-workers, study partners, a variety of titles for the people he hangs out with and doesn’t allow to get any closer than he will allow
Before the accident, he threw around the title friend casually, because it made people happy and he’s a people pleaser at heart
After the accident and the events of the game, it just feels...hard.
It’s easier to focus on something else, anything else, than to try to let people in that could hurt him the same way
He’s very good at faking it, he can be the most amazing friend you’ve ever had who will be there to help you through a rough time in your life but you’ll also never see past the barriers he puts up around himself like an imposing fortress that stops you not because it’s intimidating and harsh like Aubrey’s, but because pushing through would just seem so rude
He does great at everything, he’s nice to everyone, everyone loves him, is it really anyone’s place to try to push him on trying to crack him out of his shell? would it be selfish or selfless to try to make him different than how he is?
The best disguises are those that the people you’re trying to fool never want to see taken off
So he has a lot of people he’s friendly with, a few other friends, but the friend group...he both loves and fears them a bit, because they know Hero better than anyone else, even if he still can hide so much from them. They’re some of the few people that want him to take off his mask and be himself, and it scares him, constantly
He’s the most afraid of Sunny
Sunny can read him like a book, can dig through every single layer he’s built for himself, lay him bare and open and exposed by just one knowing look, a hint of an expression colouring his eyes with something Hero doesn’t want to see
Hero thinks that it’s cruel irony, that the one person outside of Mari now that could likely break through his shell completely is the one he has the most conflicted feelings about
It’s a reminder of why he keeps himself distant. Sunny respects his mask, someone else might not
MARI
Hero might have been universally loved, but Mari brought love with her like had so much of it inside of her that it just radiated out around her
Not everyone loved her, or wanted to be her friend, but it was also hard to hate her either
Being around Mari in most situations could make you feel safe, like you knew there was someone around who wanted the best for everyone around her, putting her absolute best forward and never settling for anything less than perfect
She carried a different air compared to Hero. She didn’t seem like nothing could affect her, but more that she could carry herself and those around her through any dark time. A bright smile, a word of encouragement, and acknowledgement that things might not be okay right now, but that they’ll all get through it with just a little bit of effort
You just couldn’t hate her, how could you? She brought a positivity with her that wasn’t just blind optimism, it was an aura that made you feel like you were heard, you were acknowledged, that it was fine because she was here
The people outside of the original group that she called friends always felt lucky to know her, even when she got busier, because whatever the situation, she could make them feel loved, and sometimes that’s what a friend desperately needs
To know that someone out there cares
Even if sometimes she cares too much
Mari’s death did not leave waves of pain and despair, it left a hole in every person she touched, even lightly
She brought love to everything she touched, and now it was up to those people to try to fill it
Some have a easier time than others, some never find a way to fill it at all
SUNNY
Sunny is the universal friend
Some people might be confused by that looking at the quiet boy that tends to stare at people instead of talk, showing little emotion and even seeming off-putting at times. If people were asked, they’d say that Hero would obviously be a universal friend
But Hero is universally loved, and that is different, because Sunny could be friends with anyone he tried to be
Sunny went outside his house for three days, after being locked inside of his room for 4 years. In that time he managed to befriend half of the neighborhood that he was living in to the point that they all sent him get well gifts when he was hospitalized
Sunny himself does not care too much about other friends besides the original ones he had, they’re who he cares about who he wants to be
Everyone he interacts with though are probably just as surprised as he would be that he would even be a friend
Not everyone needs someone who brings love, or optimism, or even happiness, he brings something else with him
He’s calm, he listens, he follows more than he leads so he’s likely to be doing whatever it is you want to do, whether that’s a game or you need help with something (even if he doesn’t enjoy work all that much, he’ll still do it because he feels he should)
And he might not have an emotional read on you, but he will remember everything you said to him, will listen to every word if you’re talking to him about something, and will seem to figure you out and who you are faster than you’d ever expect
On a good day, you can drag Sunny along to do something with you. On a bad day, he’ll be there to listen, to nod, and to let you know in your own way that there’s someone here who acknowledges you and your existence, your problems, that you’re not alone
And on the days where you don’t feel anything, he can be there too, and just exist with you in a way that does not feel like intruding, but as if he can just naturally exist next to you like it’s the easiest thing in the world
He was in a way the glue of the original friend group. Everyone enjoyed his presence, everyone felt like they could go to him, he just...felt nice to be around because when you’re with Sunny he never seems to expect anything from you as long as you get to be with him
Sunny sees the world differently, and it just so happens to be that whenever he tries to, he can easily see the problem that’s bothering you, and will go out of his way to solve it like it’s a fun puzzle for him, instead of a bother at all
The only time he’s ever failed at that is when he broke the violin
He wonders sometimes, in the aftermath of the accident, if this is why Mari was so concerned with perfectionism
If one mistake can cause so much hurt, maybe it’s better to just give up instead

I awoke at 6:30 A.M. for the second day of hands-on field training. I don't think I slept enough. I was up until 3 A.M. taking care of email and uploading my blog.
I'm irritated that rain continues to fall.
My arms are sore, but my legs are still okay. Today is the second and last day of field training.
I didn't have an appetite at breakfast, but I forced myself to eat.
Our bus took us to the training site. I noticed the nameplate on the inside of the windshield as I boarded: "Kojima Productions-sama." It makes us sound like a group of tourists. I would have preferred that the plate have read: "MGS4 Field Training Camp."
Omori-kun is a local from this area. He arrived at our hotel by car and slept with us. He could have simply attended training with us and then stayed the night at home. He thought hard about the meaning of our training though, and he decided to take the whole experience seriously. Total teamwork is necessary.
We ate and slept with our teammates even though it's only an overnight trip. Can we forgive a teammate for snoring loudly at night? Can we trust such a person with our lives? These questions and their answers are part of the meaning of our training.
Our second day of training begins! We're focusing mainly on Team Infiltration Training today. I must restrict my writing today as I did yesterday. I cannot describe the contents of today's training in order to protect confidential information.
Murashu from the Alpha Team (my team) was injured. We're using BB's instead of live ammunition. It's still dangerous though. Murashu's misfortune was compounded by the fact that the BB hit him between his collar and face guard.
Our medic disinfected and treated the wound.
We ate bento again for today's lunch. We forced ourselves to eat despite lacking decent appetites. We didn't want any leftover garbage because we must carry all garbage home.
A special unit on an infiltration mission has one unbendable rule: "We carry all traces of our presence home with us . . . even excrement."
We took a break during our training. We tried some of the more advanced equipment, such as Assault Armor and the Soundtrap Headset.
Toyopy was greatly pleased. Military equipment in general excites him.
Assault Armor is designed mainly for break-in operations. Two 4kg bulletproof plates cover the front and the back, and soft armor covers other parts. Spare ammunition magazines and a radio are carried in a pouch. The total weight adds up to about 20kg. Movement becomes difficult while wearing the armor, but the plates gave me a real sense of security.
The Soundtrap Headset amplifies noise from our surroundings and focuses our sense of hearing. When we equip it we can clearly discern footsteps and even whispers. Very loud noises such as explosions and gun reports are muted. It's an outstanding piece of equipment that allows us to carry conversations even if we're surrounded by shelling and gunfire.
All Alpha Team members used MP5 assault rifles during the two day training. In addition, each wore his rifle on a sling. We took Shin-chan's advice and wore shoulder pads too.
Shin-chan also recommended using the slings. I didn't know what was so great about them until I actually used one during training.
A three-point sling is most commonly used. As a layman, I had trouble attaching and detaching the sling. I also had a hard time using a one-point sling because the gun made a rustling noise when it moved.
A one-point sling has a shoulder pad that steadies the gun. The steadying effect is really useful. The gun can easily attach and detach too, since only one motion is necessary. The sling attaches to the gun via the snap shackle; it doesn't attach directly to the gun or to the swivel.
I thought that it would be hard to use until I tried it. The sling reduces strain on the person's arm while he carries the gun. The back side is elastic, so we could even perform a sling shot if necessary.
At any rate, it was pretty useful. It worked perfectly with the MP5 which can maneuver easily, even in cramped spaces.
Our field training ended at 4 P.M. Night had not fallen yet. We boarded our bus and returned home to the Hills.
I felt relieved that we got through training without any serious injuries (besides Murashu's). Safety first, everyone.
Thank you, Mr. Mori, and all other instructors.
Traffic congests the roads at this time of day. Tokyo seems really far off.
Everyone is exhausted. I wonder if they are dreaming happily. Perhaps some of them dream about our training.
We arrived in the Hills at 7:30 P.M. I returned to the KojiPro office with a pleasant sense of physical and mental fatigue.
A safe homecoming! I thought that I would feel relaxed during the little break when I stepped into the office. Then I sensed the tension in the air.
KojiPro is still at war! Subsistence moves to engage!
I turned my attention away from our training exercises . . . and toward our true battles already in progress.
A large number of combat suits, protectors, goggles, gloves, and other body equipment used during training are ready for the laundry.
Thirty-seven KojiPro staff members participated in field training this time. Three people were there to film the training for documentation in addition to our four instructors.
Everyone attending the training divided into nine teams of four or five people. The teams were named Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Foxtrot, Golf, Hotel, and India. I was on Alpha Team with Shin-chan, Kenichiro, and Murashu.
Shin-chan and I had been on the same team during MGS3's field training. He also participated in both MGS2's Clearing Training and MGS1's SWAT Training. Our spirits correspond with each other. We can communicate without even using words in certain tense situations.
A team's survival doesn't find fulcrum upon techniques, knowledge, or experience. We trust each other with our lives; we share each other's fate and destiny. We are a community standing on common ground.
We only used air guns, but the stress and fear felt while practicing an infiltration operation don't compare with anything else in our experience. We have no choice but to trust each other.
Kenichiro and Murashu participated in field training for the first time. I felt anxious when I considered that it was also their first experience interacting with each other as teammates.
Alpha Team's basic formation put Shin-chan in front on point, myself behind him as commanding officer, Kenichiro at number three, and Murashu at number four. Our training objective was to liberate hostages. We had to infiltrate the occupied facility with our team members.
We planned beforehand that Kenichiro would throw a smoke bomb, and then all of us would infiltrate together. Kenichiro gave Murashu the go-ahead hand signal when we were ready to execute our entry. Murashu misunderstood the hand signal. He thought that Kenichiro had signaled for him to enter, so he went inside alone.
Everyone panicked because our timing was off. Kenichiro belatedly threw the smoke grenade. Enemy terrorists hiding inside shot Murashu. Man down! He was dead.
This was how he got his face injury.
Shin-chan and I rushed inside. We couldn't see because the smoke screen blinded us. We had to recollect our diminished team's composure right in front of the enemy. We were trapped. Fully automatic guns rattled around us.
Time had passed since we entered. Our situation was urgent . . . the hostages were in danger.
We had a 100% chance of getting shot if we jumped out of our smoke screen. We had no choice though; nothing would happen if we stayed put. Each of us needed to trust our comrades.
I shouted at Shin-chan through the haze: "Let's move!"
"Let's move!" he responded without hesitation. I patted his shoulder ; our sign to initiate entry. A thrilling unified infiltration!
However a quick death came to each one of us soon. That wasn't important though. What was that sense of unity that I felt with Shin-chan? Was it trust? Bonding? Both of us had resolved to leave the smoke screen, and once we shared that resolution our minds became as one.
Shin-chan had taken point and I had been the commanding officer during MGS3's field training too. We had been in the same position then. We had entered the facility first, so we had assumed the role of prey. We needed to enter first even though we knew our situation. He and I have shared many deaths.
We can build a relationship of mutual trust after spending two days on the same team in the same sticky situation. I have been making games with them in the office for years. They are more than professional colleagues. Nevertheless, working with them in the office doesn't afford us the same sense of unity as does being stuck together during training.
We four members of the Alpha Team shared our fear and stress for two days. Even though the circumstances were staged, we shared the life-or-death terror of battle. Murashu and Kenichiro have become our war buddies at last.
The hands-on field training will prove useful when we're developing the more technical aspects of MGS4, of course. However I believe that we have experienced something more profound than just that. Our staff has established relationships of mutual trust. You can't get that kind of experience from day-to-day work. We developed closer bonds because we have shared the same experiences and feelings in extreme situations. We only used air guns, but words cannot express the psychological stress that we felt during training.
The situation demanded teamwork. We didn't go in there with a manual; we had no absolute assurances on the battlefield. Everything found fulcrum on our ability to work as a team.
The same is true for MGO. The strongest teams will have the best teamwork.
I took care of mail, documents that needed my signature, and some administrative work in the office. There certainly isn't a lot of good news here. I only see problems.
My priority as a businessman is to solve problems decisively and insightfully.
I'd like to do creative work, but I can't. A lot of dull work is necessary in order that creative work can be seen to fruition. It's one of the obligations in this business.
It was already after 10 P.M. when I looked up from my work.
I had a light dish of porcini mushrooms with cream sauce at Bar DEL SOL. I had two glasses of wine with my meal ; one red and the other white.
Advertisement posters for films that will run during the Tokyo International Film Festival cover the wall on one side of my route to Hibiya Line's Roppongi station. I nearly bumped into my fellow pedestrians because I kept looking at the posters while I walked. Watch out for movie hounds!
Rain started falling again around midnight. I become irritated when I have my umbrella and it doesn't rain. I used my umbrella between the train station and my house. I felt a little happier because my umbrella wasn't useless; it had meaning.
The day opened and closed with rain.
