So after reading Soil in its entirety it’s wild how everything regarding the Suzuhiros and the cases surrounding them fit neatly into a bizarre puzzle. Everything makes sense in its own little way, which really makes you feel that the author really had it all laid out from the start to the very end, which makes it harder for me to ignore certain aspect of the story or dismiss them as mere bizarreness, so, what does the horse mean?

#truth be told i was a little taken aback on seeing there would be another actor for kasen#my mind immediately went 'OH wadakuma is being replaced' but i was still happy it was kai-chan bc if anyone can#depict kasen as faithfully as kuma hinself its definitely her. shes seen everything all of his pain how he carries himself forward etc#i mean I definitely Thought and to some extent had accepted that perhaps sutes kasens journey might end here#i mean hes got his kiwame and everything right? and suemitsu san did say he wanted go wrap up yoden before#suzuhiro and makki get too old. so i assumed maybe that applied to wadakuma too whos pushing 40#soooo yeah. when i saw the takarazka cast for kasen & kara i thought .....yknow. maybe todays performance really was the end#maybe kuma wouldnt play kasen again#on hold on . cry break#ok. ok . thats the most painful thought ive ever had. ive grown too attached to him and his kasen#i dont think truly i dont that id be able to see a day where he's not kasen anymore yknow? nhes literally kasen#fhshdndnsk the tears keeo coming⚰️⚰️⚰️⚰️#howd i get so attached to something without even knowing it for a full year lol#<-the lol is like a bandaid slapped over a shattered bone#of course id love to see other kasen adaptations im always down for that. forever and ever.#but inmy heart wadakasen will forever be irreplaceable. the truest kasen. the others will have pieces of him in them but they wont be him#kai-chan....i trust you fully. kasen has loved you and lamented over you and travelled far and wide because of you.#and now youre going to take over his mantle as well now & i totaly understand how the expectations must be crushing#ill be supporting you allthe way to the end !!!!!

As of the release of his interview with Famitsu, Kodaka has revealed the names of the voice actors for Yuma Kokohead and Shinigami.
Katsumi Fukuhara will be voicing Yuma, and Suzushiro Sayumi will be voicing Shinigami.
Having both debuted around 2017, they don't have many credits as of yet. They are both credited for roles in 86 (2021), or you could recognise Sayumi Suzuhiro as Kei Shirogane from Kaguya-sama, and Katsumi Fukuhara as Shark from Noblesse (2020), for example.
Kodaka mentions that they are "two young voice actors doing an extraordinary amount of voice work."
More information about the voice cast should be expected from the official account for RAIN CODE on Twitter in the future.
For a look at their faces next to their characters, please enjoy this ugly montage I made for my great Tweet.
#raincode#rain code#master detective archives rain code#enigma archives rain code#edited starting -> young cause i was able to confirm she is 24 lol

Day trip/overnight from Tokyo: Hakone
x
It’s been about a month since I started my job at the travel agency and I already know more about things to do in Hakone than anyone who’s never been to Hakone should know. It’s a small but popular town near Mt. Fuji with some pretty good things to do. If you’re going between Tokyo and Kyoto, this is a good stop on the way. It’s also a good opportunity to splurge a bit and stay at a nice ryokan with an onsen. There are even a few—but not many—open-air onsen with views of Fuji (many of those are at ryokan, but may be open to day guests not staying there overnight).
There’s lots of stuff to do here so I’ll try to keep it short. Anyone wanting a more detailed description (especially prices and logistics on getting from place to place), feel free to send an ask!
Getting there from Tokyo:
The shinkansen is only 40 minutes from Tokyo Station to Odawara and for such a short distance is not too expensive (3,000 for unreserved, 4,500 yen for balls-to-the-wall luxury with seats in the premium car). Take the Tozan train from Odawara to get into Hakone proper--a particularly gorgeous ride during hydrangea season (mid-June to late July).
The Odakyu Romancecar (limited express) from Shinjuku to Hakone Yumoto is a bit longer (80 minutes). It’s a bit cheaper than the shinkansen (in the range of 2,500 yen), but they’re close enough that it’s better to just decide based on convenience--unless you have the Freepass, in which case the Romancecar is only about 1,500 yen.
If you’re staying overnight or for 2 nights you should absolutely get the Hakone Freepass (2- and 3-day passes available) which give you free public transport basically anywhere in Hakone, and discounts for a bunch of stuff.
Suggested route:
Train from Hakone Yumoto or Odawara to The Hakone Open-Air Museum: art museum with some pretty notable exhibits (admission 1,600 yen)
Walk (15 min) to Sounzan station and ride the Hakone Ropeway to Togendai station (¥1,480 one-way): some good views going up the mountain. Easily accessible from Odawara and Hakone Yumoto via bus and cable car (all free with the Freepass). Stop at Owakudani station (¥920 +¥1,140 from there to Togendai) on the way up to try the famous black eggs—eggs boiled in a sulfur spring with the shells turned black, which are said to add 7 years to your life:
From the top of the ropeway (Togendai station) take the Hakone Sightseeing Cruise on Lake Ashi/Ashinoko to Motohakone port for Hakone Shrine or Hakonemachi for Hakone Sekisho (the two ports are within walking distance of each other so you can visit both--¥1,040 one way, free with Freepass, cruise/ropeway day pass also available). On clear days you can see Mt. Fuji, such as in the picture at the top of this post.
Hakone shrine: some gorgeous views, of course. One of the torii gates is on the lake.
x
Hakone Sekisho (Hakone inspection point): historically used to prevent weapons from coming into the city and the wives and daughters of feudal lords from getting out of the city. Now restored as a museum.
Then take a bus back to Hakone Yumoto/Odawara/your hotel, etc.
If the Hakone Ropeway is closed, you can try the Komagatake ropeway instead (go to Hakone Shrine or Hakone Sekisho by public transport first, then take the Izuhakone cruise instead of the Hakone Sightseeing Cruise to Hakone-en port; alternatively, just take a bus to Hakone-en. There’s fewer Freepass discounts with this route).
That’s a pretty good day trip right there, but if you’re staying longer try some of these:
Yunessun onsen complex: One side of the complex is a bit more traditional, while the other (swimsuits required) has rooms with coffee baths and wine baths, just to name a few (3,500 yen for admission to both parts).
And the Venetian Glass Museum.
If you’re going by shinkansen, take some time in Odawara to go to Suzuhiro Kamaboko Village. Kamaboko is a traditional Japanese food made from pureed fish paste, formed into loaves and steamed. At Suzuhiro, you can try making your own kamaboko at the museum (1,500 yen depending on the workshop. I recommend going through the Japanese version of the website if you’re able to do the workshop in Japanese, as there are more options). There are some other food-related places at the village, like a soba restaurant and a craft beer brewery.
Also in Odawara is Odawara Castle, where you can try on some armor!

Nao Yuuki, Midori Sugiura, Haruka Suzushiro
No way! I thought that anime was well and truly forgotten. Thanks, anon!
Wait, i had to remember the tropes hahahaha
Enemies to lovers Nao Yuuki because there’s no other way to romance Nao Yuuki i think lmaoo
Slow Burn Haruka Suzuhiro because we’re both thick as hell in that regard
And definitely, 100% fake date Midori Sugiura cause imagine the shennanigans!!! the DRAMA! the ANTICS! we’d be chaos personified (this also turns into a slowburn because goddamn it i love history nerds who love to sing and know how to fight)

A Collection of Comparisons Between the First and Last show of Tousute: Hiden Yui no Me no Hototogisu
Beware of ALL SORTS of spoilers!! I watched both separately, then rewatched the scene after Manba’s Shinken Hissatsu (often referred to as eienrin from the title of the english song that was playing) to the ending side by side with each other and here are the most notable differences (in lines, acting, etc.) i noticed (sprinkled with my own opinions and interpretations): READ UNDER THE CUT!
1.) The most obvious thing I think everyone would be able to notice right away is the difference in the acting prowess of ALL the actors. Although they said most of the same lines, did most of the same stunts and action scenes, there is a definite shift in the way they portrayed the characters across both plays.
Most important to note would be Mikazuki, who at first seemed more smug and confident, more like he definitely knew something everyone else didn't. His resolve was firm and he was visibly untouchable (in a sense that he had no plans of giving up whatever act he was doing). In the last play, however, he looked softer when he was talking to everyone and definitely looked like his resolve was weakening; and that more than anything else he is just so tired of repeating the loop again and again.
Because Manba is also the main character, I decided to highlight the HUGE gap between his character in the first and last play. In the first play and in the final battle, he seemed very angry at the situation and at the fact that he couldn't do anything about it. However, for the remainder of the play he was almost calm and collected (a proof of his growth) and the only time we saw him truly break his facade of bravery was when he heard Hasebe was willing to cut down Mikazuki without the saniwa ordering them to yet, and just from merely suspecting that he is a traitor. From then on he started to become more frustrated by the second, and in the final battle his anger was definitely accentuated. In contrast; in the last play, since the very beginning, Manba was frantic and frustrated at everything that is happening. Every line and every action was heightened with an intensity that wasn't there before. In the final battle, Manba definitely exceeded "anger, frustration, etc.", but before anything else just looked so... sad. Both he and mikazuki had been reduced to nothing but sadness, like everything else has been sucked out of them in the numerous times they fought. However, in the actual fight itself, they both went all out, with Mikazuki not bothering to mask his emotions and Manba all but screaming and bawling his heart out; as though every time they went through the loop, it was building up to this very moment alone. It was almost as if Manba was betting everything that he is and holds dear to that single moment, which leads me to believe that it was the reason why he finally won.
Again, because Tousute is a production who rehearses in new theaters all the time to adjust to the stages, this might also be the fruit of the actors themselves improving; or the director/actors deciding to make minor changes as they see fit. However, I would also not rule out the possibility that doing the performances again and again has become akin to a loop to the actors themselves and all of their pain, all of their emotions towards tousute, and everything they hold dear about it may have accumulated all through out the runs and was finally released in the last play.
In the scene where Honebami had to kill Ashikaga, he said the line "I’m not supposed to have memories, but why do I feel pain?" and I feel like the same can be said to the Toudan (except Mikazuki) inside the loop. They are not supposed to remember what transpires everytime the loop resets. However, I feel like their emotions has become too strong that they transcend the mere constraints of "memories" and become something that they carry through out the numerous cycles of the loop. Their minds may not remember, but I think it's not impossible that some part of them will never forget just how much suffering they went through and will go through again and again.
2.) In the fight between Mikazuki and Manba, you can clearly see the difference of the emotions portrayed throughout. If you've read Makki (Manba)'s post about the play, you'll understand the part that he was talking about fighting Mikazuki and at first just being merely sad about it, but in the last shows literally being so frustrated about it and gaining the resolve to "save him" this time around. It speaks for itself through the way they fought with so much more emotions in the last play.
3.) When Mikazuki was saying "if it's you, i'm sure you'll be able to break the loop" (or something like that) in the last play, he added "because you're quite the sooty sun (a reference to what he said to him when they fought together against the HRA in Kyouden and Manba said it was ridiculous to call him "the sun"). It's interesting to note the fact that he didn't say it in the first play. I'm not sure whether the line was simply added or ad-libbed by suzuhiro (Mikazuki), but it definitely increased the intensity of Manba's victory in the last play. Where finally, the sun has risen and came to light the moon's way back home. (Well, hopefully it was supposed to mean something akin to that.)
4.) In the first show and throughout all the performances, Manba never once won against Mikazuki in their final battle. However, in the last play, he did. The change of lines when Manba finally won against Mikazuki went like this:
FIRST SHOW Mikazuki: Yamanbagiri Kunihiro, I really enjoyed this training with you. Just like this, let's cross swords once again. Manba: When that time comes, I'll win! Mikazuki: Yes, that's a promise.
LAST SHOW Mikazuki: Yamanbagiri Kunihiro, I really enjoyed this training with you. Let’s cross swords once again. Manba: When that time comes, I'll be stronger than I am now! I'll show you! Mikazuki: [smiling] I'll look forward to it...
And this time, it was as if Mikazuki willingly disappeared into nothingness, like he gave himself away, knowing there's a much better tomorrow waiting for him.
This, for me, definitely solidified the fact that Manba has won, and the BIG CHANCE that the loop has been broken. I'm still not sure without the subtitles and these are only my own translations/comprehensions so take them with a grain of salt. However, because Mikazuki omitted the words "just like this" in the last show, it lead me to believe that the next time they will cross swords, it will no longer be in the same situation. Moreover, because Manba said “I'll be stronger" rather than "I'll win", it just proves that the promise they made with each other has been fulfilled. It would explain why when I watched the live viewing of the last show, I didn't really understand what "promise with Yamanbagiri" Mikazuki was talking about prior to the second half of the play. It was never explained in the last play because it was already fulfilled and that went unspoken in the end when Manba won the fight.
5.) In addition to these, there was a notable difference in Manba’s smile in the end of the last show. In the first play, after he said "someday, let's start again", there was only a shadow of a smile, something that was both hopeful but still afraid of what's to come. In the last play, that changed completely. Manba’s smile too has evolved into a stronger and more hopeful one, something that is so bright it almost resembled the sun. (Well, it was as bright as a smile could be when it comes to manba-chan.)
THAT'S ALL AND SEE YOU ALL IN TOUSUTE 5! (or when the additional stuff gets released and they show us the differences by show, because from what I could gather from people who saw the play from when it was still showing, there were plenty of endings and other scenes that didn't make it to the final cuts. I might update this post when I see those!)
**Some stuff that I didn't mention were already mentioned in this post.
NOTE: If you want to see more of these, you can browse through twitter as some people also talk about it.
The first show is commonly referred to as “Meijiza” from the theater where they performed in, and the last show as “[Hiden] Daisenshuuraku” literally meaning the last show of the play, so maybe you could try searching those.
