“ the damage has been done. ”
motionless in white lyrics ♡ sentence starters. ╰ * SCORING THE END OF THE WORLD , part three.
❝ Indeed it has. ❞ He spoke with as much composure as he could muster. Anger, regret and guilt were buried beneath the surface as tears began to form. Exhaling a quiet shaky breath, he gazed upon the smoky destruction around them. This district of the city was in ruin; crumbling buildings, roads were blocked off and concrete was split, ambulances and police cars surrounded the area. Medical staff braved the dangerous buildings to pull out the victims.
Loki was frozen and it was as if time had slowed down. Everything was playing around him in an agonizing slow motion. This was done by his hand, this was his fault.
He shouldn't have let it happen but he let it. There might have been an effort on his part to lessen the impact as he clung onto what autonomy he had. But he was weak. Too weak to stop it. Now he must receive due penance.
❝ And what is it to you, daughter of Surtur? ❞

Inks “basically done” - he still has to sign it, and do some touch up stuff.
“The Big Drawing with more or less finished inks. Microns, Tombow'Fudenosuke Brush Pens hard tip/soft tip, Tombow ABT N15 Brush Pen, Pentel Fine Point Correction Pens, Pentel P209 drafting pencils, Strathmore 400 2 ply Bristol drawing paper. 61.5 x 41.75. 2025.
The main part of the inking is complete. I've erased the entire drawing as well, in a series of separate efforts so my arm wouldn't fall off. ;-) I haven't signed it yet as I want to look it over with a little space between me and the finish in case I decide to tweak anything. But for all practical purposes, the drawing is done.
I began it in 2022. I don't recall the month but I started gathering materials for it probably in the early spring. I didn't work on it consistently, and we moved in the middle of everything so there were months when I didn't touch it. However, the last few months, I decided I needed to get it done, and pretty much gave up doing any other jobs until this one was finished.
Characters from left to right - nine Valkyries (including the Marvel version), Odin, Hildegarde, Heimdall, Tyr, Fandral the Dashing, Volstagg the Enormous, Skurge the Executioner, Balder the Brave, Karnilla the Norn Queen, Hogun the Grim, Amora the Enchantress, Thor, Surtur, Loki, Fenris Wolf, Beta Ray Bill, and Sif. Scattered throughout the drawing along the bottom and left side are various anonymous fire demons, part of Surtur’s army. The entire scene is occurring the Muspelheim, the Land of Fire and home of Surtur. All the named characters appear in the Marvel Comics universe and some of them originate in the actual Norse mythology. This particular scene is my own invention and does not occur in the myths.
Yay me!!”

It's All Connected
Index below the cut.
The motivation behind It's All Connected lies in Avengers: Endgame.
I was so annoyed with the way events on Vormir turned out I started to rethink the scene. Then I started to rethink other scenes. Then I started to think about how they originally said the whole MCU would be connected, even the TV shows. And then about how that proved to be untrue. But what if...it was all connected? All of it...what changes would you need to make?
It became too much to hold in my head so I decided to type it out. Then I started thinking about missed opportunities like integrating the earlier X-Men movies and having Cap team up with the Invaders. Now I have (somewhat) refined all my ramblings and present them to you. The MCU IAC (rolls easily off the tongue, no?).
Some general notes:
Probably for MCU geeks only.
This is total fantasy, so there is no limit on time, budget or casting. CGI will always look great (monsters, deaging etc).
I genuinely enjoyed all the movies, even the ones people generally don't like. So most of the things that I've changed are for connectedness, missed opportunities or fairly minor gripes. For the most part.
Where I have consciously taken inspiration from outside the MCU I have tried to label or link to that.
Happy to add links to anything I might have missed. Suggestions welcome for blank spaces in casting, continuity errors etc.
And obviously...MASSIVE SPOILERS...right the way through.
I hope you enjoy.

When Asgard Dies
Thor #399
More of the same. But it’s consistently entertaining. And there’s always something new happening.
Thor and Odin have a reunion - and Odin is freed from captivity. All the action in this issue is handled by Balder the Brave, who is in single combat with Seth.
Except for the scenes with Earth Force, who are a bit bland, this is a solid issue.
The ending, which brings Surtur back and (seemingly) sidelines Thor from the ongoing story arc is a bit unusual.

LAST DAYS OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA, INFINITY INC #30 SEPTEMBER 1986 BY ROY THOMAS, DANN THOMAS, MIKE GUSTOVICH, DAVE ROSS, TODD MCFARLANE, TONY DEZUÑIGA AND CARL GAFFORD
SYNOPSIS (FROM DC DATABASE)
Following the Crisis On Infinite Earths, the remaining surviving members of the Justice Society along with Sandman's partner Sandy and Hawkman's wife Hawkgirl gather in the estate of Carter Hall in a funeral service for Helena Wayne and the Earth-Two Dick Grayson, whom they knew became the Huntress and the Earth-Two Robin. They also realize that, with the merging of the Earth universes to form one single universe with one Earth on which most of the surviving superheroes from those universes now coexist, their own team has become redundant and past their time. Earth-Two Hawkman calls for the Justice Society to be immediately disbanded when the Spectre appears unto them, crying out in pain before he collapses. Dr. Fate touches the Spectre and is immediately flooded with images of something that took place in 1945, something that is far different from what the rest of the Justice Society team that was active at the time remembers:
On the day of Franklin D. Roosevelt's funeral, the Justice Society sees a rip in the sky, which they surmise is another reality trying to enter into theirs. The members with the power of flight attempt to fly into the rip to investigate, but they are soon repelled. The Spectre reveals that the point of origin of the "rip in the sky" is from Germany, which makes the team as well as President Harry S. Truman realize that Adolf Hitler has a powerful mystical weapon that he intends to use not only against the Allied troops, but also against the whole world. The Justice Society travels as far as they dare outside the limits of the Sphere of Influence, then bravely enter into that zone without Superman and all superheroes with magic-based powers, only to be picked off one by one by Nazi troops as they enter into the bunker where Adolf Hitler is using the Ancient Spear of Destiny. Though Hawkman survives long enough to confront Hitler, it is too late: fire pours into the room and devours its inhabitants, then it spreads throughout the whole Earth, devouring everything on it and the planet itself, until nothing remains.
After revealing this alternate history to the Justice Society members of the present time, Dr. Fate shows them that the "rip in the sky" is now over them at this point in time: what Hitler had done in 1945 with the Ancient Spear of Destiny is now coursing its way through time. Dr. Fate now transports the team back in time to 1945, to the point where they see that Hitler has started using the Spear to cause a worldwide catastrophe, and he reveals that Hitler has tapped into the power of the Spectre, while he was lying dormant following his confrontation with the Anti-Monitor, to make the catastrophe happen. Dr. Fate takes the heroes to the world of Asgard, the home of the Nordic gods, also revealing that Hitler has linked the fate of their Ragnarok, the "twilight of the gods", to that of the universe.
Knowing that the only way to keep Hitler's linkage of the Ragnarok to the universe's destruction from taking place is to change the course of the Ragnarok's outcome, Dr. Fate merges the members of the Justice Society along with Sandy and Hawkgirl with the Nordic gods who are out to battle the demons come to destroy them. Team members Flash, Johnny Thunder, Green Lantern, Starman, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, and Wildcat perish in the battle, but as the Justice Society prevails until there is only Surtur the fiery demon left to battle, the perished team members are brought back to life and they all join together for the defeat of Surtur -- everyone except for Power Girl and the Star-Spangled Kid, who have been purposely withdrawn by Dr. Fate from this confrontation. As the Justice Society defeats Surtur, Power Girl and Star-Spangled Kid see that the whole battle is starting all over. Dr. Fate reveals that the battle must be repeated over and over in order to protect the universe from the intended fate of the Ragnarok. He transports them out of Asgard and back to the Hall Estate in the present time, then is soon transported there by the Spectre who now joins with his Master. Dr. Fate now informs the members of Infinity, Inc. what has transpired.
As the course of the Ragnarok is changed, Hitler sees that his plans to destroy the world have been defeated. He eventually marries his mistress Eva Braun and they retreat into their underground suite, where they both poison themselves and commit suicide.
The Infinitors learn from Dr. Fate of the Justice Society's removal from the mortal plane, and must deal with their grief and inform the JSA's friends and family of their departure.
CONTEXT
REVIEW
Was this really necessary? Well, yes and no. I don’t think it made sense to get rid of the JSA (as they would be back in a few years), but I can understand why they would think it was necessary, as they wanted to make the universe more friendly for new readers. It didn’t help that these characters kept showing up in Secret Origins.
Also putting Hawkman and Hawkwoman there is a time bomb, as no one knew at the time what to do with the properties.
As a story is not bad. Although it seems to me like both Spectre and Fate knew beforehand that they were going to be trapped in a loop. They should have just said that and leave. Especially because deaths mean nothing in this story.
The Infinity Inc issue is perhaps more emotional, with all the reactions for the JSA’s “death”. Perhaps a bit too emotional as the characters are not actually dead. But, well, for a few years they will be remembered as completely gone.
The art is better than usual, even for McFarlane who seems to be getting to the levels we know him now.
I give this story a score of 8

CHAPTER 8
[Sakaar] Loki writhed in pain on the floor of the Grandmaster’s hangar as electricity flowed through his body. He looked painfully at the controller for the obedience disk his brother attached to his neck before departing. Loki swore inwardly. If I ever see Thor again--
“There she is! Our ticket out of here!” Loki struggled to look in the direction of the vaguely familiar voice.
“Hey, what’s this?” Korg asked as he picked up the control fob. He glanced at Loki, then back to the fob, then back at Loki again. Loki locked eyes with Korg, giving him a manic, pleading look. Realizing, Korg pressed a button on the fob, deactivating the obedience disk.
Loki sighed as his muscles finally relaxed. Every one of them ached as he slowly stood up, though he barely noticed. He had experienced far worse before and had built up a surprisingly high tolerance for pain. Loki dusted himself off and looked to Korg. “Thank you.”
“Hey man, we’re about to jump on that ginormous spaceship. You wanna come?” Korg asked, gesturing toward a supercruiser.
Loki looked thoughtfully at the rocky alien, remembering the words Stark had said to him while they were in the Quantum Realm. He smiled. “You do seem like you’re in desperate need of leadership.”
[Asgard] Loki looked out the window of the supercruiser. A thick fog had enveloped the bridge, foreboding and ominous. Loki strained to see through the fog, searching for any place they could land. Suddenly, a gap in the fog opened. On the bridge below, Loki saw his people huddled together so tightly that some began to fall off the edges, their friends and family desperately holding on to them. They were trapped by a horde of Hela’s butchers.
We’re not going to make it, Loki thought bitterly. With the ship drawing closer, he saw Heimdall out of the corner of his eye, fighting off several butchers. The Bifrost’s former keeper was the only thing standing between the terrified Asgardians and Hela’s army. To his horror, he watched as the brave guardian was struck down. The butcher lifted his blades high, readying a final, mortal blow when a blast erupted from his chest. Loki blinked in surprise as the butcher collapsed, revealing Korg behind him, tossing his blaster club up on his shoulder.
Recovering, Loki rushed to the ship’s exit as it finished docking. As the fog dissipated, Loki saw his people crowded before him, watching the ship appear in awe. With a smile and a grand flourish, he cried out. “Your savior is here!” Behind Loki, all of the Grandmaster’s former prisoners stood equipped with whatever weapons and armor they could grab before their hurried departure. Loki and the gladiators jumped down from the ship, prepared for battle.
“Everybody on that ship, now!” Loki shouted. He pushed down the growing nervous panic that threatened to consume him. No, he thought, remembering Tony’s words again. They need a leader.
Thor, Valkyrie, and Loki stood together unwavering and resolute as Hela approached.
“We need to hold her off until everybody’s on board,” Valkyrie spoke, preparing for one final battle.
Thor looked behind them at the people boarding the ship. “It won’t end there. The longer Hela’s on Asgard, the more powerful she grows. She’ll hunt us down. We need to stop her here and now.”
Valkyrie turned to Thor, determined. “What’s our move?”
Loki glanced at his brother, hoping to hide his concern. “I’m not doing ‘get help’.”
Thor watched as Hela approached with the palace behind her. His gaze grew distant as realization came to him. “Asgard’s not a place, it’s a people. This was never about stopping Ragnarok... it was about causing Ragnarok.” Thor turned to Loki and met his brother’s eyes with a steady, determined gaze. “Go to the vault. Surtur’s crown. It’s the only way.”
Loki’s stomach lurched, a horrible realization hitting him. He said ‘let it happen’, not ‘make it happen!’ Loki thought. He looked over his shoulder at the last few people boarding the ship. This is it, he thought to himself. He hoped he had done enough. He turned to his brother and couldn’t help but be impressed. He never would have thought his brother would be capable of such a plan. “Bold move, brother. Even for me.”
Loki rushed into Odin’s vault, past all the jewels and treasures gathered from all across the nine realms. Some of the artifacts had been in there since the time of Borin, some since the beginning of Asgard itself. Passing all of these, Loki sought out something more recent. He hurried to the pedestal and picked up Surtur’s skull. As he approached the Eternal Flame, a blue glow caught his eye. Loki paused mid-step and slowly turned to the Tesseract. Leave everything in the treasury. Everything. Tony’s last words to Loki echoed in his mind as he drew closer to the Tesseract’s pedestal, transfixed. They must be destroyed.

The Girl of 3 Realms
Warnings: Angst
A/N: Hi everyone! This fanfic centers around Laussa Odinsdottir, and the headcanon that she is actually Sindr, queen of Muspelheim and daughter of Surtur.
I recommend reading Angela: Asgard's Assassin before this. Otherwise you won't know who Laussa is, and more importantly, what she is.
Also, Laussa has probably been alive longer than 15 years at this point, but that's her maturity equivalent, so just roll with it.
Enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Laussa crept out of her room, tip-toeing past the guards. It was the evening before her fifteenth birthday, and she wanted to see the stars.
Her Father, Odin, and Mother, Freyja, had always been over-protective of her. She had never been allowed outside Asgard. Instead, she had to stay in, always watching her older siblings get to travel the realms.
So, instead, she would stare up at the stars every opportunity she could get.
Laussa entered the palace gardens, quietly closing the door behind her. She found a comfortable spot by the pond and laid down, staring up at the sky.
She named the constellations, which "stars" were actual stars and which ones were planets, and gave each one she didn't know a new name.
After an hour or so, she crept back to her room and slid under her covers.
After all, tomorrow is going to be a big day.
.....
"Psst. Laussa. Wake up, little sister."
Laussa rubbed her eyes and looked up. Thor was standing over her with a huge grin on his face.
Laussa smiled and sat up to hug her brother. "You're home! How's Midgard?"
Thor hugged her tightly. "Midgard is the same as ever. A huge mess." He laughed. "But don't worry, their messes aren't too hard to clean up."
Laussa smiled. "That's good."
"So," Thor said, sitting down beside her. "How is Asgard? Anything exciting happen while I've been gone?"
"Well, Dad's been holed up in his study doing who knows what. Mum's basically been trying to rule the kingdom in the meantime. And Uncle Cul has been weirdly quiet lately. It's like the calm before the storm."
"Hm..." Thor scratched at his beard. "Interesting news. I'll have to investigate this." He smiled at her. "But for now, we need to celebrate the day of your birth! You're now old enough to begin taking a more active role in the affairs of Asgard. It truly is a day to celebrate!"
Laussa smiled. "Great! Now get out of here, you big lump." She pushed him off the bed. "I need to get dressed!"
Thor laughed. "As you wish, princess."
.....
Laussa walked out of her room dressed in a yellow dress and a sunflower in her hair. Thor smiled and offered her his arm. She took it, and together they walked to the throne room.
Unsurprisingly, Freyja sat on the throne, Cul stood to one side, and Odin was nowhere to be seen.
However, standing next to the throne, speaking with Freyja, was none other than Balder the Brave, fresh from Hel.
"Balder!" Laussa shouted excitedly. She rushed forward and hugged him tightly.
"Laussa!" Balder exclaimed, laughing. "So good to see you, little sister."
Laussa looked up at him. "How'd you come here? Aren't you supposed to be in Hel?"
Balder scratched at the back of his neck. "It's a long story. Basically, I've come here to strategize with Mother. Sindr is raising her forces again."
Laussa gasped. "Again?"
Balder nodded. "Yes. But we'll take care of it. We always do."
"Okay." Laussa turned to Freyja. "Good morning, Mother!"
Freyja smiled. "Good morning, Laussa. Happy birthday."
"Thanks!" Laussa waved to Cul. "Good morning, uncle Cul!"
Cul frowned at her. Laussa quickly averted her gaze. Cul had never been the friendliest to anyone, but he seemed to be in a particular sour mood today. She wondered why that was.
"Will Loki be coming?" Laussa asked Thor.
Thor scowled. "I doubt he'll come."
Laussa nodded, disappointed. She had always loved Loki. His stories and mischievous nature had always delighted her, much to the bemusement of everyone else.
Balder cleared his throat. "Well, since Laussa is now 15, I believe she should start to attend councils, yes?"
Freyja nodded and turned to Laussa. "There is a council meeting tonight at sundown to discuss what options to take with Sindr. When you attend, you should be dressed in your formal battle gear. Make sure you're a few minutes early. Try to make friendly conversation with the other representatives before the meeting begins. Volstagg will be there too, so do not worry."
Laussa nodded. "Okay."
She started to turn away when Freyja suddenly called out, "Oh, and your father wants to see you."
Laussa turned back, surprised. "Father... Father wants to see me?"
Freyja nodded. "He's in his study."
Laussa hurried away, waving goodbye as she left. She wondered what Odin would want. She had a feeling it wasn't to wish her a happy birthday.
.....
Laussa knocked on the door to Odin's study.
"Enter."
Laussa slipped in, quietly shut the door behind her, and faced her father.
Odin looked older and more tired than when she had last saw him. His beard frayed, he had dark circles under his eyes, and his eye patch was dirty. Mead bottles littered the floor, and scraps of parchment were scattered all over his desk.
"Have a seat," the old man said, gesturing toward the chairs that faced his desk.
Laussa obediently sat down and immediately began speaking. "Father, why have you called me? Why do you look so unwell? Is there anything I can do for you? Are you..."
"That's enough," Odin interrupted. "I have called you here because I have some... concerns."
"What sort of concerns?"
Odin sighed. "I'm not sure how to put this delicately, so I'll just state it how it is. You know Sindr has been stirring lately?" Laussa nodded. "Well, my ravens have discovered that she is after someone."
"Who is she-" Laussa stopped herself as she realized what he meant. "Me. She's after me, isn't she?"
Odin nodded solemnly. "Yes."
"But-but why? Why me?"
Odin sighed again, rubbing his temples. "I suppose it's time you learned the truth."
Laussa frowned. "What do you mean?"
The old king leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms. "The circumstances of your birth were...different, to say the least. You were conceived on a path between worlds. Thus...well, to make a long story short, this caused Surtur to be your third parent."
Laussa stared. "What?"
"I believe you heard me, Laussa. Now pay close attention.
"Soon after your birth, your older sister, Aldrif, stole you. I sent Thor after her. What I did not know is that Aldrif sought to cure you of your...fiery nature.
"She threw you into a giant furnace on Heven. There, you were cured. You were no longer part fire giant.
"Or so we thought."
Laussa trembled. "What...what do you mean, 'or so we thought'?"
"Do you remember that fever you had two weeks ago? Well, you briefly turned into a fire giant and burned the sick bed down."
Laussa stared at him, horrified. How could she be a fire giant? How could she be a...monster?
"Why didn't you tell me?" she whispered.
Odin sadly gazed down at her. "I didn't wish for you to grow up with such a heavy burden."
Laussa glared at him. "Or maybe you didn't want it getting out that your daughter is a monster!" She stood, turned on her heel and ran out of the study.
I'll end this part here. There will be another!
(my photo edit- this is the cover I gave this story on Wattpad- ’Gold Gerbera’ is my a/c name there)
Shamelessly re-blogging my 2018 post-Infinity War + post AV4 fic of Loki and Thor meeting up- because lots of us still hurt. (obvs. no Endgame spoilers!)
I wrote it in June 2018, and I just assumed that Thanos would be defeated in AV4 somehow.
Hope you enjoy it.
Hell, hope you read it :)
“I’m There”
Thor is honouring Loki, commemorating his death, praying as he did for Odin in Ragnarok. Loki finds him there, takes him for a walk and they talk about Ragnarok, and Infinity War, their past and what happens to Loki next.
Word Count- 2100+
It had been nine days since the fall of Thanos. The Avengers had said their goodbyes to the others who'd fought, and then retired to Stark Tower.
They had not had time to pause during the war, to reflect or process all the horror around them, or digest the difficult decisions that had had to be made. Their time together like this, afterwards, was essential and, though they tried to keep it feeling casual they all knew that sometimes, meetings could be more jovial than was really warranted. No matter. Debriefs, official and otherwise, had been done. Time together, drinks and reminiscing over the past. Eventually it could be delayed no longer- the days to split up and go their separate ways arrived. And, as those who still had homes went back to them, Thor sat on a cliff alone. In Norway.
He sat, quite relieved to be on his own at last, on a clifftop overlooking the sea. It was late evening. He had spent the last hour clearing a space and building an small pile of stones. It had a large stone at the bottom, and rose by smaller and smaller stones, till a pebble and barely a ball of grit sat on the top. He had placed blades of flowering grass around it, and arranged shells into the shape of two horns. When he was ready, he knelt down. Once comfortable, he prayed;
"Loki, I bid you take your place in the halls of Valhalla Where thine enemies have been vanquished Where the brave shall live Forever Nor....."
...another voice joined in from behind him, "Nor shall we mourn but rejoice for those that have died the glorious death."
Thor knew, though didn't believe, who this was. It wasn't the first time that he had been interrupted whilst praying this way. He turned, slowly...
Loki stood there, looking down at him, his eyes smiling, green and clear.
"Hello brother," Loki smiled.
Thor stared. He knew that this must not be true. He watched. It could only have taken a few moments but as he looked over his brother, soaking in every detail, it seemed much longer.
"Loki..." he said, barely above a whisper.
Loki stood in a familiar, simple black suit. His arms hung at his sides, his palms slowly turning towards Thor.
"Walk with me, brother," he said.
Thor lifted himself off the ground and, hesitating, not taking his eyes off him, he walked towards Loki. Loki grinned and nodded, and the two of them turned to walk along the cliff, Loki with his long hands in his pockets.
His heart racing, Thor tried to act normally, and tried to pretend that he could take all this in his stride. So he sniffed loudly, coughed, ostensibly wiping his mouth across his wrist. Loki just looked ahead and smiled, full knowing what Thor was doing.
For a while, the only sound was from waves sweeping the beach below.
"Why did you come here?" Loki asked, at last.
"This is where our fath.... where Odin left us. And.. and he said to remember this place."
Loki looked down and swallowed, noticing how Thor had thought it might hurt him to call Odin his father. Very thoughtful of him, very discerning, he thought. But nothing could upset him now, and the usual jolt in the heart that such a thing would have caused before, didn't come.
"I was... I was thinking of you. I've missed you, Loki," Thor slowed down his pace, letting Loki walk ahead a little, "I am missing you." FInally, tears.
"I know." Loki smiled smiled back at him, tilting his head, "It's been hard for you. I have watched, you know."
Loki's grin: a smile, a chuckle. ‘Here he is!’ thought Thor, ‘Here's my brother! Making light of matters of sentiment!’
"Eh eh. Come on! I haven't finished with you yet." Loki signalled to Thor over his shoulder, "Come along."
The two strolled on, till they came to the rock where they'd sat with Odin before his spirit had ascended. Not speaking of what it was, they looked first at it and then each other, eyes meeting, and Thor realised where they were and smiled back at Loki. They took their seats and watched the kittiwakes as they swooped across the water, farther out to sea.
"Here was the beginning of the end," Thor looked thoughtfully at the empty space between them, where Odin had once sat. "Hela, Ragnarok, the war. We threw Asgard away. Lost so many. SO much blood, brother. So much blood shed through ALL our lives.”
Loki sat quietly, soberly following Thor’s every word. His brother was fidgetting, getting flustered. He continued, “How are you....how are you able to even be here? -Everyone thought you would go to Helheim.”
Loki raised his eyebrows at this.
“I just mean. Ugh! What with all your twists and turns! Huh!" Thor turned to Loki, "I guess there is forgiveness after all."
"No, brother, there isn't,"
"Wh...what? You mean... what?" Thor began to panic. Had Loki come to say goodbye, before sinking to the land of the dishonourable dead? He gulped, tried to catch a breath, "NO! No that can't be. By the Gods! Not that place. There must be forgiveness, Loki. You can't go there. You can't be lost.."
"It's ALL. RIGHT." Loki held his hand a little above Thor's arm, then gently, "it's all... right.. I've not been judged unworthy. There is no forgiveness, but there is redemption. I've come here to say goodbye, dear brother, but also to thank you."
Thor's eyes were screwed up against tears and confusion, "Thank me? But.. wha ? What for? I only ever belittled you. I was unfair so often, Loki..."
"You gave me a chance when I needed it most. It's because of you, your actions, your decisions, that I am with our mother and father now.”
It was not lost on Thor's ears that Loki had acknowledged their parents. Loki continued:
"I was jealous at times, and my rage pushed you all away. But I always loved you. And when you said that Asgard was the people, I knew that you truly were their king at last. And I knew what I had to do for you. I knew then that I would die, if necessary, to save them. It was you, brother it was always you. I had to do what I could to get you all out of Asgard alive. "
"SO I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR DYING?"
"NO!" Loki ached to reassure him, "No," he repeated, gently, smiling, "No, I made the decision. It came to me that if I bundled up all the power that I'd used badly in the past, then I could do it. I reached down into myself and pulled together all my power and knew that I could use it again, this time for a good thing. And it worked. It did hurt, but it worked. That's how I survived the vaults. That's how I got out after bringing Surtur's head to the Everlasting Flame. -I got out because I needed to. I willed it. I wasn't afraid."
"And the Tesseract? What of that? That led Thanos to us!"
"No. I took the Tesseract because I knew its power. I knew it could be a powerful weapon AGAINST Thanos:- he was already on his way. Heimdall had seen him. He spoke to me of it, on Bifrost, as we herded the people towards the ship. I hadn't known the size of HIS ship though. I hadn't known what was on board it, either. I thought he might come to us somewhere on land. I never thought he would attack us there. I didn't know Heimdall had seen him there."
Thor was looking down at his feet, mulling over Loki’s words. Gulls swooped low and snatched away the silence.
"But," he began quietly, as Loki leaned in to hear him, "But did you know that Thanos would kill you?" Tears again, dreading Loki's answer.
"I knew Thanos of old, "Loki explained, "He caught me when I fell into the abyss. And although he showed me more worlds and more knowledge than I would ever have seen had I stayed on Asgard, his price was high. I suffered, and I knew that he would make every being in the universe suffer. I KNEW that he would take half of everything," Loki paused, "and," -waiting for Thor to look up at him- "there were TWO princes of Asgard..... so I knew he would want one of us."
Thor stared at him. He was just grasping how Loki had achieved his redemption. He had won it, as so often redemption is won, with a sacrifice. But had saving Thor really been enough? Enough to balance Loki's book? All those deaths? Injuries? Insults? Suffering?
Loki could hear his thoughts. "No," he smiled, "As much as I see my beloved brother's virtues, I don't think my saving just you would have helped in the great scheme of things!" Thor grinned. "Our actions, though, saved civilisations. And you were better to lead the Avengers, so you had to live. Would they have trusted me? Would anyone on Midgard? In a way, I died for having made them doubt me, through the terrible things I did in New York - I died for my past. I died for you, and I died for the future. That saved me. And without you, I wouldn't have done that."
Loki stood. "Thank you, Thor."
Thor and Loki locked eyes. Then Thor realised that Loki had just done something he hadn't done since they'd been boys together, playing chase in the corridors of Asgard's Royal Palace: he had used his name. He stood and went to hug him, just remembering at the last second that this was impossible. Loki nodded. Yes, he had wanted to as well.
"I have to go." Loki looked out across the sea.
Thor saw the sea breeze catch Loki's hair again. A tiny glimpse of hope stirred him once more: if Loki weren't really here, how can his hair move in the wind?
Loki turned, "It's because your mind adds in all the little details," he said, "That's why, if you look, I have a shadow, as well! Clever, isn't it?" He grinned.
Thor stared, amazed. He looked down and, sure enough, Loki was somehow casting a shadow. The ground that the shadow fell onto was real. But the shadow was not.
"Huh! Thor thought, "Well in all my centuries, I never knew that."
He looked up to witness an aquamarine swirl where Loki had been standing. It was spinning and changing to emerald, then gold. He fell back, afraid.
As the light cleared, Loki was there, resplendant, transformed. He was now dressed in clothes worthy of a hallowed place. But as he was no longer in danger, he needed no armour. Instead, he was robed in knee length black velvet, with Norse patterns around the edges, embroidered in sparkling gold thread. Jewels glistened around the collar. A twisting belt hung loosely around his hips. Long boots, in fresh, polished, black leather reached, with twisting patterns, to the ground. His black hair was longer now, falling past his shoulderblades, it was thick, neat and glossy in the evening sun. Above it, and fitting for a Prince, there sat a crown. Short sided, silver, and curled into a pattern showing the branches of Yggdrasil. His skin, not so pale now, clear and -to Thor's amazement- seeming so full of health and life. His eyes sparkled nothing but love.
"Goodbye, brother," he said, peacefully, smiling. He winked as he turned to walk towards the cliff edge.
"WAIT!" shouted Thor, "PLEASE!"
Loki turned, still smiling, and playfully rolled his eyes. "Always the last word, Thor?"
"Wait." Thor repeated, trying to remember what he was going to say. "Will I see you again? Will I see mother and father? Will I.. will I see you again?"
"There is a palace there," Loki nodded, "And a large refrectory. It has a long, dressed, table where everyone feasts. Our parents are keeping a place for you, near the top of it. You'll see." he grinned, then turned back to continue walking.
"AND YOU? LOKI! LOKI, WHAT OF YOU?!"
Loki looked back over his shoulder.
"I'M THERE, THOR!" he called, then, gently, "I'm there." He smiled.
He turned to walk towards the sea, where instead of stopping at the edge of the cliff, he continued, his feet seemingly stepping out onto air.
Thor stood, looking on, as his brother's image faded, paler and paler, then burst again into vibrant green crystals and gold tipped orbs, rising, up, up and up, spreading out into the darkening sky, till the cloud of jewels lost itself among the stars
Should The Sky be Filled With Fire || Loki & Sigyn
@sigynhealerofasgard
Loki was as ready as he thought he could be.
Except for lingering anxieties (the nerves of anticipation, he told himself), he was packed, prepared, and rehearsed. The first diplomatic venture to Muspelheim in over two thousands years could not be that difficult.
Except the inherent danger of the trip had been an undercurrent of all their preparatory discussions. Their father had never said it, directly, but Loki was perceptive enough to know that there had been traces of worry in Odin’s eye. ‘The Muspel have not always looked favorably at Aesir presence in the Nine.’ had never come out of any advisor’s mouth, but it was implied and... undeniably the truth.
Surtur did not like Odin and, for the most part, Loki thought the sentiments mutual. But Muspelheim was a giant (no pun intended) of trade and military prowess, second only to Asgard itself and they could not be ignored and rebuffed forever. They had Muspel diplomats visit on occasion it was true, but nothing of this magnitude had been attempted and those on both sides were reasonably tense.
Loki expelled a tight breath and worked looseness into his limbs as he made his way, alone, toward the lower levels of the palace. Things were quiet, but only because many had gathered to see the princes off in the main square. He had only just sent the last of his servants away with his belongings, and they were not officially set to be departing for another hour, but Loki had business to see to before.
The weight of the trip was hard to ignore. He had slept little the last night or two, trying to chase away his own restless energy by finishing up last-minute alterations to his already impeccable addresses. Frigga had read and re-read them and assured him of their perfection. Still, he was not wholly convinced.
What if I fail. Had been the mantra ever there, since the conception of this diplomatic attempt. Louder still had been the question whenever he had looked at his father. What if I fail. What if I put us all in danger. What if, what if, what will you think of me?....
He had never been brave enough to voice his worry to Odin.
Nerves or no nerves, he was the picture of poise this morning; dressed impeccably in black leather accented with green and silver, his hair smoothed back. He had selected something less gaudy and ceremonial for the actual travel. They would not be meeting Sutur’s official emissary for several days, and would instead be with an escort. The heart of Muspelheim was warmer than the outer regions where Asgardians generally limited their trade, and a guide was required to both counsel them on the environment and ensure they did not offend any great houses by trespassing on their lands.
Loki had opted for something cooler, more understated, but decidedly layered. There would be no mistaking him for who he was, with a length of green cape draping from one shoulder and clipping fashionably at his waist, but also no risk of appearing threatening.
He emerged into daylight and picked his way quickly down a flight of stairs and out a yawning gate. No one noticed him move through the cool shadows of several arches that opened into a portion of Asgard’s gardens. It was warm for mid-spring, and he could smell the heat on the cherry blossoms. Sigyn was waiting, as they had agreed, and he smiled when he saw her.
“Good morning, Sigyn.” He hummed when he was close enough and, emboldened perhaps by the niggling awareness of the danger of their upcoming trip, stole a step closer and pressed a delicate kiss of greeting to her forehead. “I feel as if most of Asgard is holding its collective breath in waiting for our departure. Somehow that makes it all the better to hear the birds sing, and know that they are not.”
They’d agreed to this meeting days before, when the magnitude of this journey had sunk in and now, having come to it, he realized beginning with, ‘If something were to happen to me...’ sounded more than a bit melodramatic.
He smiled still, easy and gentle, even if the calm in his eyes was a trifle practiced, and slid a slight, decorative canister from a satchel at his side. There was a single lock of his raven hair, carefully preserved by spells, within. It was long and thick enough to braid; fitting for the customary ‘mourning’ lock.
“We have been assured of the Muspel’s intentions and I do, largely, believe them. I am not one to make judgements based simply on old grievances, but...” He offered it out to her, “There is always the possibility that Surtur’s temper will prove capricious.”
He did not voice the, ‘And I would do everything in my power to protect you if it came to that.’ but it was in his gaze, not quite hidden enough to be mistaken for anything else.
“In light of that risk, I grant you this day a lock of mourning to pay homage to my memory, as is our custom, in the event of my death.” Loki’s words were practiced ritual, something he had recited more than thrice in his life, but somehow sincere despite it. “With the Norns as my witness, let the passing of this lock be a testament as binding as the law that I consider you as dear to me as a blooded member of my house.”
Tinyloki-Mamafrigga scribble Family/Angst/Loff ~400 words of K+
Loki remembers the irrational torments of heat among his earliest memories. On occasional nights, he woke up whimpering from the unpleasant sensation, from dreams of dissolving in wildfire and lava and on a heated rock in the scorching lands of Muspelheim and in the breath of the evil Surtur. The bedsheets would threaten to boil him in his own sweat, air would scorch up his throat. He wouldn't have the courage to get up in the dark, it would be teeming with ominous shadows that had crept over here from the land of dreams. He would toss helplessly and quietly moan for help half-awake, until Mother's soothing hand slid onto his palm, always his palm first; he had his own room but Mother was always here at these times.
"It's so hot, Mama," he would whine.
"I know, my darling," she would whisper. "But I'll help you, don't worry. Look, it's not that bad any more."
And her gently cooling hand, with the faint glow of seidr on her fingertips, would slowly move up his arms without touching, and his legs, only then his torso and then his forehead, finishing with cupping his cheeks, pressing an unhurried kiss onto his young frown.
"It's better, isn't it?" she would ask, and tiny Loki would hum affirmatively. “You are such a brave child, my precious darling. I’ll always be here to take care of you.”
Her pleasant fingers would rest under his ears for a bit, sending the slightest breeze of cooling energy upwards in his head. Loki loved the feeling as Mother’s palms framed his face and her form watched over him; it was like being shielded against the shapeless fears.
The outbursts of heat happened because as a Jotunn, he was unaccustomed to the Asgardian climate, and it took several more years for his frail little body to strengthen against it. These occasional attacks were warnings, symptoms of fatigue. In fact, the people who knew of his origins weren’t entirely sure he would live to be an adult. Frigga’s silent rage towards her spouse wouldn’t dissipate until much later on; she wouldn’t forgive him for causing the elongated suffering of this child under her care. She would fight to defy Fate if only to defy the King.
And when Loki lived, these nights were left behind, a forever-buried secret of the two. It was theirs against all those unbelievers. They didn’t deserve to know.
When u both arrive at the theater, ur just as weirded out as Thor when u see a statue of Loki (ur former lover) & comment how badly the play was made. It didn’t help either when it reminded u that u were present when Loki “died” at Svarltalheim (but u keep ur cool). After the play, u & Thor go confront “Odin” as Thor tells him he needs 2 get his s**t together while u tell him how uv been having 2 take over 4 the council meetings since he hasn’t been showing up. When Loki reveals himself, ur not surprised but get mor upset (no tears though) as u tell Loki how despicable he is until he interrupts u. While Thor threatens Loki with his hammer as he asks him where Odin’s at, u threaten him with ur sword. And when Loki tells u that he nos where Odin’s at, u should totally end it by having u & Thor look at each other before u say “prove it”. Don’t make any1 OOC. Like the last GOTG one-shot, could u copy the actual dialogue from the movie here as well? Thanks!
Rules for requesting.
Political meetings were an unavoidable nuisance that came with being Asgardian royalty, but they hardly did any good for the people. Things had changed ever since Thor had left and Loki had died, and not for the better. It seemed that Odin was a completely different person now. Concubines served him food and drink, a statue of Loki had been built in his fallen son’s honor, and he had written and directed a play of the life of the Trickster to be performed at all hours of the day. Asgard was unrecognizable to you now, but you were glad to see a familiar face soaring over you.
You waved to your old friend and he landed next to you, at the feet of Loki’s statue. Your jaw dropped at the sight of Surtur’s crown on his back, planning on asking him how he had defeated Surtur, but he had a question for you.
“What the hell is that?” were his first words as he stared at the memorial, his brother’s likeness standing tall in the sun with his arms spread wide. You laughed at his expression.
“It’s an eyesore, but it’s here to stay,” you told him and embraced him. “Hopefully you’re here to stay, too. I’ve missed you.”
“I’ve missed you too, Lady Y/N,” he said, returning your embrace. “I’m here to see my father.”
“I’ll go with you. He’s at the amphitheater.”
Thor was clearly confused, as there had never been an amphitheater in the palace before, but he followed you anyway.
“Is Odin well?” he asked you, noticing your uneasiness.
You sighed and rolled your eyes. “Well isn’t what I would call it.”
“What do you mean?”
“You’ll see.”
You heard the gentle harmony of a choir as you neared the amphitheater, stepping to the front of the crowd so Thor could see what was going on. You tried to hide how upset you immediately became. They were on the scene where Loki had sacrificed himself on Svartalfheim. You had been there when he died, and you had been forced to relive it, however terribly, too many times by Odin. How Sif and the Warriors Three ended up in the narrative, you didn’t know. All you knew was that it was painful to watch, but a little less so now that Thor was with you.
“Oh, brother,” the actor playing Loki moaned. “This is it. I take my leave.”
“You fool,” the actor playing Thor scolded him. “You didn’t listen.”
“I’m sorry,” the Loki imposter gasped, and his partner told “Lady Sif” to get help, and she fled from the stage screeching for help.
“I’m sorry for all I’ve done,” Loki’s actor said. “I’m sorry I tried to rule Earth.”
“They’d be lucky to have you,” Thor’s actor said, and you rolled your eyes. Thor glanced between you and the actors, not sure whether to be disgusted or angry.
“I’m sorry about that thing with the Tesseract. I just couldn’t help myself. I’m a trickster.”
“So mischievous.”
“Sorry about that time I turned you into a frog.”
“It was a wonderful joke.”
“It was indeed hilarious,” you heard Odin agree, and Thor looked to his father with confusion.
You had to fight to compose yourself when an actress playing you fell to her knees next to Loki’s actor, clutching his hand to her chest.
“Oh, my husband,” she wailed with sadness. “My strong, handsome, brave husband. How will I ever go on without you at my side? We will never share another night together. We will never have children. You leave me widowed without hope for happiness. I will always love you.”
You blinked back tears, and you felt Thor’s arm around you. You gave him a grateful look, glad he was finally home. You had never shared yours and Loki’s last words to each other with Odin, but somehow he managed to write lines that were close to them. You had promised to always love him, and you’d never broken that promise.
“This is disgraceful,” Thor murmured to you.
“It’s just a bad play,” you said, but he was right. This play spat in the face of everything you and Thor had struggled to do. You would never dare say anything to Odin, though. He was adamant that this play be a permanent piece of Asgard’s culture.
“You are the savior of Asgard,” Thor’s actor told Loki.
“Tell my story,” Loki’s actor told him. “Build a statue for me.”
“We will build a big statue for you.”
“With my helmet on. With the big bendy horns.”
“I will tell Father what you did here today,” Thor’s actor said, a tear crawling down his cheek.
“I didn’t do it for him,” Odin whispered.
“I didn’t do it for him,” Loki’s actor said, and finally “died” with a small grunt.
Thor’s actor did his best to roar out an agonized “NOOOOOOOOO!” while your actress “fainted” from her grief, the choir crooning a soft melody of mourning.
“And so, Loki died of his wounds, giving his life for ours,” a new actor portraying Odin said as he crossed the stage. “He fought back those disgusting elves. He brought peace to the realm.”
Odin’s actor turned to a new actor, a little boy painted blue, as he arrived on stage and climbed onto a rock. “Loki, my boy. It was many moons ago I found you on that frostbitten battlefield. On that day, I did not yet see in you Asgard’s savior. No. You were merely a little blue baby icicle that melted this old fool’s heart.”
“Bravo! Bravo!” Odin stood to applaud with the audience, and the actors went through their bows. You and Thor headed in Odin’s direction so they could speak. Odin was surrounded by his concubines and enjoying a glass of wine, so he didn’t notice you at first.
“Father,” Thor said, finally catching his father’s attention.
Odin turned to Thor and uttered two words you never thought you’d hear from the king of Asgard. “Oh shit.” He recovered quickly and announced Thor’s return to the people in the amphitheater. You furrowed your brow in suspicion, wondering why Odin would have such a reaction, and you knew Thor was wondering the same thing.
“It’s a very interesting play,” Thor commented as he approached his father, you following close behind. “What’s it called?”
“The Tragedy of Loki of Asgard,” Odin told him. “The people wanted to commemorate him.”
“Indeed they should,” Thor said. “I like the statue. A lot better looking than he was when he was alive, though. A little less weasley. A little less greasy, maybe.”
Odin only offered one short laugh, and Thor gave an Einherjar the skull and told them to lock it up in the vault so it wouldn’t destroy the planet.
“So, it’s, um, back to Midgard for you is it?” Odin asked, poorly concealing how tense he was.
“Nope.” Thor tossed Mjolnir into the air and caught it again. “You know, I’ve been having this recurring dream lately. Every night I see Asgard falling into ruins.”
“That’s just a silly dream,” Odin told his son as he approached him. “Signs of an overactive imagination.”
“Possibly,” Thor agreed. “But then I decided to go and investigate and do you know what I find? The Nine Realms completely in chaos. Enemies of Asgard assembling, plotting our demise, all while you, Odin, the protector of those nine realms, are sitting here in your bathrobe eating grapes.” Thor tossed and caught Mjolnir again, almost chest to chest with his father.
“Yes, well, it is best to respect our neighbors’ freedom,” Odin said, obviously reaching for a reason for Asgard’s isolation and ignorance.
“Yes of course. The freedom to be massacred.” Thor sent Mjolnir flying away, a little past Odin’s shoulder, before it returned to his hand.
“Yes, well, I’ve been rather busy myself,” Odin said.
“Watching theater,” Thor said.
“Well, board meetings and security council meetings,” Odin tried to say, but Thor looked to you for the truth.
“I was just at a meeting,” you said. “He hasn’t attended one in months. The advisors have been left to rule without an executive decision, so we’ve been able to do nothing to protect ourselves or secure order. I’m the reason the council hasn’t fallen apart and abandoned their duties.”
Thor turned back to his father with a sigh. “You’re really gonna make me do it.”
“Do what?” Odin asked, a bit of panic in his eyes. Thor threw Mjolnir as far as he could, sending it soaring into the distance until we couldn’t see it anymore.
“Thor, what are you doing?” you asked, your eyes wide as you realized what was happening. You put your hand on the hilt of your sword, hoping you wouldn’t have to use it. Thor ignored you, putting his hands at Odin’s shoulders as he went to stand behind him.
“You know that nothing will stop Mjolnir as it returns to my hand,” Thor said, then gripped the back of Odin’s neck. “Not even your face.”
“Thor!” you exclaimed. “That’s your father! What are you doing?”
“You’ve gone quite mad!” Odin snapped. “You will be executed for this!”
“Then I’ll see you on the other side, brother.” Your eyes widened at Thor’s words, sure he had gone crazy. Mjolnir was zooming back, getting closer and closer, and you were prepared to knock Odin out of the way when you heard Loki’s voice come out of his mouth.
“Alright, I yield!” A golden glow rippled across Odin’s body, replacing him with the raven-haired man you had thought you’d never see again.
Thor pushed Loki away, sending him stumbling out of the way as Mjolnir narrowly missed him. Gasps and exclamations of shock were uttered around you, and Loki froze where he stood, not sure what to do or say until he turned back to his brother. He gave Thor a grin just as Scourge burst through the crowd, struggling to catch his breath.
“Behold Thor Odinson--”
“No.” Loki snapped, holding a finger up to silence Scourge as he turned to him. “You had one job. Just the one.”
Loki was alive. He was standing there, right in front of you, alive and healthy and and as handsome as you remembered him. You want to run to him and embrace him, but you didn’t. You were struggling to rein in your anger.
“Where’s Odin?” Thor demanded.
“You just couldn’t stay away, could you?” Loki asked, that damn grin still on his face. “Everything was fine without you. Asgard was prospering. You’ve ruined everything. Ask them.” Loki had dared to step closer to Thor, who didn’t have the patience for Loki’s taunts. Quite frankly, you didn’t, either.
“How dare you.” Your words made Loki finally look to you, forcing him to face your wrath. “I’ve been grieving you, and all this time you stood by in silence while I suffered. Never one word of comfort, no hint that you weren’t gone.”
“This was the most complicated lie I’ve ever had to tell,” Loki told you with genuine sadness. “I couldn’t have any reason for someone to suspect me.”
“You’re despicable!” you shouted at him. “What kind of man leaves his wife alone with her grief and puts her trauma on the stage for the whole world to see?”
“I never meant to scorn you.” Those words did nothing to ease your pain. You didn’t know whether to burst into tears or scream at Loki some more. He looked like he was about to say something else, but Thor wasn’t interested in hearing any more excuses from him.
“Where’s Father?” You unsheathed your sword as you watched Thor take long strides towards Loki, forcing him back onto the couch he was lounging on minutes before. “Did you kill him?”
You got to Loki before Thor did, the tip of your blade at his throat to keep him from escaping.
“You have what you wanted. You have the independence you asked for,” Loki tried to reason with his brother, but his silver tongue seemed to have rusted, because all it took was the weight of Mjolnir on his chest to get him to tell the truth.
“Ow ow ow ow! Okay! I know exactly where he is!”
You and Thor looked to each other, then back to Loki. “Prove it.”
“I’m not doing get help.” Loki insisted.
Thor stared out to Hela, and then turned to look at the fleeing Asgardian people. “Asgard’s not a place, it's a people.” Thor said, turning to face us. “Loki, (Y/N) this was never about stopping Ragnarok.This was about causing Ragnarok. Surtur’s crown, the vault. It’s the only way.”
“Bold move, brother.” Loki said. “Even for me.”
Loki turned to me, whispering quickly. “I’ll be back, my brave Valkyrie.” pressing his lips to mine before running off.
Val rolled her eyes, “He really should learn to be quieter when he whispers.”
“Shall we?” Thor asked, gesturing to Hela.
“After you.” Val responded.
Thor stepped forwards, his body igniting with a surge of electricity once more. He dealt blow after blow to Hela, switching off turns attacking her with Val. Loki soared overhead in the Grandmaster’s ship, and I ran back to help Heimdall direct everyone into the ship.
“Go, go now!” Thor shouted, and Heimdall nodded, jumping into the ship with the last of the Asgardians. He reached his hand out, but I refused it, opting instead to stay and await Loki’s return. The ship began to leave, but Hela simply smiled. She summoned enormous spikes from the ocean below, running them through the ship, preventing its escape. The last few remaining form Hela’s army scrambled up the spikes, trying to gain entrance to the vessel.
They were thrown back from the door, and shortly after, Skurge leapt out, firing automatic rifles at the enemy. The ship broke free of the spikes, slowly turning and ascending. Hela dispatched him with a single blade, slowly approaching Val as I ran to help her to her feet.
“Hela!” Thor yelled, Hela turning to face him. “You want Asgard, it’s yours.”
“Whatever game you’re playing, it won’t work.” She responded, walking towards him. “You can’t defeat me.”
“No, I know.” Thor agreed, standing as the palace erupted into flame. “But he can.” Thor gestured back, and the enormous lava monster from my vision erupted from the palace, brandishing his greatsword.
“No.” Hela said as she stared, unaware of Val racing up behind her.
Val ran her sword through Hela’s hert, Thor striking Hela with lightning to hold her as a chunk of the Bifrost bridge was destroyed, Hela falling with it.
“Tremble before me, Asgard.” Surtur roared, swinging his sword through buildings. “I am your reckoning!”
“The people are safe.” Val said, staring up at the ship. “That’s all that matters.”
“We are fulfilling the prophecy.” Thor sighed.
“I hate this prophesy.” Val responded.
“So do I, but we have no choice.” Thor said. “Surtur destroys Asgard, he destroys Hela, so that our people may live. But we need to let him finish the job- otherwise…”
Thor was cut off by the Hulk soaring overhead, attempting to destroy Surtur with his bare fists.
“Hulk, stop you moron!” Thor yelled after the green beast. Surtur plucked the Hulk off as one would a flea, throwing him back to the Bifrost. “Hulk, for once in your life, don’t smash!”
“Big monster!” Hulk whined.
“Let’s go!” Val insisted.
“Fine!” Hulk conceded, running back towards us and the ship.
“What about Loki?” I asked, my eyes fearfully scanning the horizon for any sign of the God of Mischief, or the ship he had flown.
Before I could be answered, the Hulk scooped all of us up, leaping up into the ship. Heimdall closed the door as we all ran to the nearest window. I arrived just in time to see Surtur plunge his sword into the depths of the planet, the entire surface bathed in fire and smoke.
“The damage is not too bad.” Korg said, “As long as the foundations are still strong, we can rebuild this place. It will become a haven for all peoples and aliens of the universe.”
With one last push, Surtur’s sword was completely submerged in the planet, and it exploded in a flash of white energy. My ears were filled with ringing as I desperately searched the planet’s remains for any sign of Loki. Tears welled in my eyes when I found nothing, the planet snapped away in a second like it had never even existed in the first place.
Asgard was gone. Every building, every plant, my home, destroyed.
I walked slowly away from the window, searching for the closest empty room to hide in. I locked the door behind me, wishing no one to see me as I sobbed. My second home, Thor’s home, had been destroyed, with no hope of it ever returning. Loki had been killed in the fallout, and I wished to have him back, if only just long enough to tell him that I loved him once more. The dull, heavy pain that was spreading in my chest was unbearable. I had seen him die once before, right in front of me, but this time was much more real, so much more final.
I sank down into a chair, burying my face in my arms as I leaned onto the bed. Something hit the top of the ship, but I paid it no mind, knowing that it was just a piece of debris from the planet’s destruction. Tears continued to roll down my face, my sobs ragged and unceasing.
“I’m sorry for scaring you, my little Valkyrie.”
I gasped, whirling around to see Loki standing there. He stepped towards me, arms outstretched for me to run into. I got up slowly, then quickly ran into his embrace, my tears now joyful.
“Let me wipe those tears.” he said, his voice low. “You can’t that easily be rid of me.” He mumbled into my hair.
“Thank god.” I whispered, clinging to him, almost unwilling to believe that he was really there. “I’m so sorry, you’ve lost everything! Your home, your mother your…”
“Not everything.” he said, placing his finger on my lips. His hand cupped my face, his thumb wiping another tear from my cheek. He pressed his lips to my forehead.
“Does Thor know you’re alright?” I asked, my tears slowly stopping and my breathing returning to normal.
“Yes. I came across his quarters first in my search for you.” Loki said, taking my hand.
“I love you.” I said. “Why did you wait so long to escape?”
“I couldn’t let Asgard’s destruction mean yours.” he said softly, waving his hand. The Tesseract appeared, floating above his palm before he waved it away, vanishing as soon as it had appeared. “You must be exhausted, my love.” he said, my clothing shimmering away, replaced with my sleeping clothing. “I’ve already sent projections to the bridge if Thor has need of us. Let’s rest.”
I nodded, walking to the bed as he changed his own clothes. Once under the covers, I snuggled into him.
“I never want you to forget, you’re my joy, my love, my reason that I strive to be a better man.” Loki breathed into my neck. “Even though Thor doesn’t quite trust me again yet, though I am not safe from those that would hurt me, I don’t care. I want you, I would rather be with you, than be safe.”
“Am I really worth that much to you?”
“You are worth that to me, and so much more.” he said, smiling. “I would not have asked you to be my wife otherwise.”
“What now, my fiance?” I giggled, squirming as he tickled me under the sheets.
“Only what you want to do.” Loki said, pressing himself against me. “I am yours.”
“That’s good,” I breathed. I rolled over straddle him, wiggling my hips suggestively and feeling the heat rush in his body. “Because I need you.”
Tales of Asgard
Series 3, Episode 4
Balder the Brave part I
Sigyn is now in the Palace dungeons for treason. Loki, disguised as a female royal guard is listening to her story.
She recounts the tale of En Sabah Nur (recast as Oscar Isaac is our Steven) (b 8000bc, defeated 3600 BCE) and how he was defeated. In Egypt, a crowd chants to En Sabah Nur, who is using telekinesis to build pyramids as four horsemen watch from nearby. This is a warning not to be a dictator or your followers will turn on you.
Loki is clearly feeling very rebellious towards his father and, by extension, his family. Sigyn will encourage this. Sadly, there is nothing he can do for her.
On his way out another prisoner whispers something to him. Sigyn is too focused on her resentment and we, in turn, too focused on her to truly notice.
We now mostly follow the plot of the comic "The Warriors Teen". Excerpts follow from Wikipedia (The Warriors Teen is the first entry under "plot"). There are some major differences from the comic.
For a start they are all young adults now, not teens.
Also they will wear wearing armour, not tunics. Or seemingly, in Sif's case, bandages. Who sends their best warriors to fight in tunics when you have access to all the armour you need? Especially when two of them are your sons?
"Thor...Sif and Balder, have sneaked into the trophy room..."
We'll say Odin's vault instead of trophy room.
As usual Thor is dreaming about being a great warrior. Balder is more concerned about what it actually takes to become a leader.
Instead of Thor trying to lift Mjölnir (he already has it), they discuss the majestic, legendary weapons, trophies and artefacts. And Loki.
Sif detests him. She has ever since he cut off her hair. And he's only gotten worse as he's grown up. Thor tries to defend him. Balder tries to bring balance to the conversation.
"Three giant spiders enchanted by Loki attack them."
The spiders go for Balder as one unit. Loki is operating on a different level of mischief and snark here. He puts the three in real danger, though it seems Balder was his intended target. He is not seen however.
"Working together, the three young warriors defeat them."
Odin discovers the three and the dead giant spiders. He asks them to clean up and come to the throne room.
Impressed by their handling of the dangerous situation Odin deems his two boys ready for the forging of a "Svadren" blade, the symbol of heirship. The heir is not chosen by age or sex but by qualities revealed in the quest. Odin had planned to send Loki too but he has already ruled himself out of the quest by his actions of late. Loki, hiding in the shadows, quietly seethes.
If you were my daughter, says Odin to Sif, you would be worthy of the challenge too. Instead, as a trusted lieutenant (though not an Einherjar), she will accompany them to help keep them safe.
"Odin decides to send them on a quest to find four mystical elements that will then be fashioned into an enchanted blade. The four items are: a scale from the dragon Hakurei; a feather from the snow eagle Gnori; a jewel from a mine of Jennia; and a vial of water from the Lake of Lilitha."
Each of the items will imbue the sword with a different magical quality.
All parties are asked and agree. Respect is given where it is due, unlike the comics.
The chat on the way to Hakurei's cave (Set here in Muspelheim, rather than Asgard given the arid landscape and the fiery nature of their target) is about how Thor has gotten them lost...Sif and Balder had both been there during Einherjar training and have both offered to navigate...they have to be careful lest they are noticed by fire demons or Surtur himself (I do like "I SAY THEE NAY!" from the comic though, maybe Sif is annoyed that she doesn't have a shot at the sword).
Whilst arguing they stumble on Hakurei themselves. The dragon seems to have known they were coming and sought them out. Caught on the back foot, they are scrambling for survival. Sif's shows great resilience to occupy the dragon while Balder quickly hatches a plan and joins her. Thor and Mjölnir are able to get the position for a knockout blow. Teamwork! They get the scale.
The comic continually refers to how Sif is not respected as a warrior and constantly has to prove herself. In the MCU and the IACMCU I feel she is respected. Had it not been for her unsanctioned trip to see the Valkyries she would be in the Einherjar like Balder. So no need for any defensive comments.
The trio wonder at how Hakurei seemed to know they were coming. Sif says that only Odin knows about the quest. Balder admits that he told Nanna. She is livid, she told no one as they were instructed. Thor admits telling the Warriors Three...Hidden among the rocks, Loki muses that he thought that he was the only other person who knew.
A mysterious figure gazing at them through their magic mirror also knows and makes vague threats (they are monologuingto themselves).
Sometime later they are travelling through Jotunheim looking for Gnori the snow eagle and their feathers. They have been tracking them through the cold for days and they bicker initially and look like they might part ways, but Balder reasons that they would be foolish to separate in the frozen wastes.
Just as they regroup they are attacked by ice pixies. They defeat them, then surmise that it was another trap. And that someone is plotting against them. As it is unlikely that the Fire Demons and the Frost Giants are working together it must be someone else. Sif suspects Loki. Thor doesn't believe it. Balder tries to bring balance to the conversation (he does also love Loki btw, he just shares his father's suspicions).
They are then confronted by Gnori who gives them wise counsel and insists they did not summon the pixies but they don't know who did.
They give grave, but vague warnings to each of the trio. They get the feather.
As Gnori leaves the gang momentarily consider turning back to ask Odin for advice. But then resolve to succeed in their quest.
Loki is revealed (to us) to have been following them.
DUN DUN DUN!
Anything for Love (Part 4)
Prompt: Imagine finding Loki in his non-Odin form before Thor returned just before Ragnarok, and helping to protect Asgard when Hela returns.
Word Count: 1962
Warnings: language, fighting, angst
Notes: The events in this take place before, during, and after Ragnarok - so if you haven’t seen it or want to save yourself from spoilers… Beta’d by my fabulous @carryonmyswansong
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Arriving just outside the palace, where Bruce and Valkyrie dropped them off, Thor and Loki took a look at what was once home, was now half engulfed in flames, destruction, and death.
“My gods, what has she done?” Thor quietly asked himself as his eyes scanned the carnage.
“Hopefully nothing that can’t be undone,” Loki mused back before the two of them looked at each other.
“We will find her brother,” Thor promised with a pat to his back.
“I want to find her alive,” he stated. Loki knew you were a passionate loyalist. He knew you would try to protect Asgard at all costs. He only hoped that maybe this once, you would be like him, and run, save yourself. He hoped your courage would waiver, so that you may find safe refuge away from her. As poorly as it was to think that, it was true. He’d rather have you cowardly and alive, that brave and dead.
Thor and Loki ran inside the palace, stunned to see what they had laid eyes on. Where Hela had you pinned, your face bloody, her body bruised and burned, parts of her outfit charred away at the hand of your doing. One hand was on your throat, her other hand pushing down on a black rod she’d manifested, fury in her eyes as she seemed to will you to death with just her gaze.
With a bit of a grunting yell, you ignited her spear, making it turn to ash as you pushed her off of you.
“Get off me,” you said through clenched teeth as you rolled over and stood up, your breathing labored.
Hela and you had been fighting for hours now, and doing quite well, you might add. She seemed hellbent on killing you, completely consumed by the burning curiosity as to why she couldn’t kill you. Why were her weapons no match for you?
Thor told Loki he would find Odin’s staff to try and hold her off, if Loki tried to get you out of there. As soon as Thor left, Loki called to you, alerting both you and Hela’ of his presence.
Hela’s sharp glare turned to her brother as your body responded to Loki’s voice. First, the sound hit you, surprising you. Second, you turned to locate where it came from, and Loki stood, in his fine leathers, the sight of him making a warm, languid feeling wash over you, despite being in the middle of an intense battle with one of the most powerful beings in the cosmos.
“Oh, you’re back? Couldn’t stay away?” Hela mocked just before you saw her face morph a fraction. You knew what she was about to do, your mind running on overdrive as Loki stood there, defenseless. “Maybe this’ll help,” she said.
Just as she even flinched a muscle, you darted over to cover Loki, standing in front of him, catching the spear midair that was supposed to strike through your gullet. Holding the weapon up, you incinerated it before glaring at her.
Threatening your home was one thing. Killing good soldiers was a tragedy, attacking the citizens whas damnable, rage inducing. But actually going after Loki? Your love… that was a grave mistake on her part.
Mustering all the energy you could, you reeled back for an attack, using every ounce of your blood, sweat, and power, pouring it all into one giant blow. The enormous blast of fire and energy shot Hela back, sending her tumbling backwards, until she slammed into the foot of the throne, a loud groan coming from her.
While the two of you had a moment, you spun to face Loki.
“Are you alright? Where were you? I was so worried and --”
“We were sort of stranded on a terrible planet, but I’m here now. I was so worried about you,” he admitted as his eyes searched yours. He seemed as if he were about to ask you something, but you heard a commotion behind you so you spun, defensively protecting Loki.
But you saw her target was now Thor. He had his father’s staff and was planning to use it greatly.
“Go!” he said. “Get the other’s to safety,” Thor commanded.
You and Loki looked at each other and sprinted, running full speed towards the rainbow bridge, where you saw the army of undead soldiers, and the undead dog. A large green person seemed to be fighting the dog, while another young lady was fighting the soldiers, teamed up with Heimdall and a large rock creature.
You and Loki nodded at each other as Loki pulled out his daggers, rushing forward into the fight and you took a deep breath, ready to try and fight with what energy you had left. The fight raged on for a moment, it seemed to be a losing battle, until the God of Lightning use his impressive skills on a large portion of the enemy.
During the fight, Loki couldn’t take his eyes off you as you moved. His mind raced with a million questions. How did you have fire power? Why did you not tell him? How were you so powerful? Why was he so impressed, yet so worried about you? He watched on in concern and pride as you fought impressively through the throng of zombies.
The lot of you all fought side by side, finally clearing away the dead soldiers and the dog. All of you worn and weary, you banded together on the bridge, knowing Hela would come for you.
“Hit her with a lightning blast,” Loki suggested.
“I just hit her with the biggest lightning blast in the history of lightning. It did nothing,” Thor remarked.
The lady mentioned holdin her off, but Thor said the fight needed to end here and now. The lady asked, “So what do we do?”
“How were you able to hold her off?” Loki questioned as he turned to you. “When we showed up, you were incinerating her weapons. How did you manage that?”
“I probably should've told you, I’m the Goddess of the Eternal Flame. That bowl that sits in Odin’s relic room?” you said, keeping your eyes on the approaching Hela. “It’s only a fraction of what flows in my veins.”
“And you failed to tell me this why?” Loki demanded.
“Didn't seem important. I was sworn as a young girl to protect the throne. I was trained by Odin’s elite skill fighter to keep the crown safe at all costs. You didn’t need to know that political advising was merely a hobby,” you nonchalantly answered.
“So my picking you as advisor wasn’t luck?”
You shook your head and smiled. “No, I would’ve been right there with you. Protecting you no matter what,” you vowed.
“Can you defeat her?” Thor asked.
“Not easily. I was barely able to hold her off until you two got here. I may have the eternal flame but…”
“But it’s nothing like Ragnarok,” Thor suddenly stated, realization coming to him. “Loki, this was never about stopping Ragnarok, this was about causing Ragnarok. Surtur, the crown, his vault. It’s the only way,” he informed.
“Bold move, brother, even for me,” Loki said with labored breathing. He started to trot off, but you turned and followed him.
“Loki, wait,” you called, grabbing his arm.
“What are you doing? I have to go put the crown on the flame,” he stated, peering down at you in confusion.
“Let me do it,” you requested.
Shock trickled through his face and voice. “What? Why?”
“It should be me. It’s too dangerous,” you started, looking up at him. “Loki…” You looked down, biting your lip, knowing this could very well be the last time you spoke to him. “The world needs you,” you finally said, lifting your face to his, tears threatening in your eyes. “Thor needs you. No one needs me.”
He gazed down at you, unsure what to say.
“I love you,” you calmly said, hoping those would be your last words. You gazed at him a moment longer before nodding, about to walk off to the spare space ship. You turned and started down the bridge before Loki grabbed your wrist and yanked you back into his arms. His hands gripped the sides of your face as he planted a loving kiss on you, one of passion and goodbye.
Loki wanted to keep you, all to himself, to grab you and run away. To take you and whisk you off. He wanted to never be denied happiness again. He was tired of things he loved getting taken away. He was tired of giving up things he wanted, things he deserved. And now he was being asked to do it all over again. He just lost his father, although they had their differences, both knew deep down they loved each other, and now he was about to lose you too.
Loki felt like he would never let go. Hell, he never wanted to let go. He wanted to have you by his side forever, and not as an advisor. But Thor, his people, Asgard, all of them were counting on you right now, in this moment, and for the first time, he wouldn’t let his selfish needs come before anyone else.
He let you go, in more ways than one, as his eyes scorched into yours. “I love you,” he breathed, surprising you.
“You…” was all you could say. You never thought you would hear those words uttered by him, and now that he’d said it, you knew why - you were going to your death. It would be the last chance he got to say something to you.
Nodding, biting back tears, you let go of his hand for the last time. The sight of you leaving him took his breath away, just as you’d done the first time he laid eyes on you. A strangled sob stuck in his throat as he watched your form get farther away from him. He never thought a vision could hurt so damned much. As much as you wanted to look back one last time, you knew you couldn’t...knew you shouldn’t. So you raced to the vault as quickly as you could, trying to ignore the hole in your heart, the boulder in your stomach, and the lump in your throat.
Just as you grabbed Surtur’s crown, you tried desperately to not think about what you’d be missing out on in death, but it was rather hard. Your resolve cracked and you allowed yourself a moment of bliss, just a moment. Just one second, to recall all the wonderful times with Loki. Picnics disguised as meetings. Rendezvous veiled as consultations. He complimented your mind often, worshiped your body when he could, and devoted what time he could to making it known you were loved, even if he couldn’t say it aloud.
Without much of your control, your mind wandered from the past to the phantom future - a future for you that would never be.
Your mind saw it fit to show you images of things that would never pass: A wedding for you and your beloved -- Loki in dapper ceremonial attire as he waited for you in a stunning white lace gown. Family time and bonding with Loki and Thor, getting them back on the right footing, working with them to ensure their relationship worked out to be healthy. Watching Loki grow into a role of leadership, of a king. Watching you and Loki create a family, beautiful children at your feet. Every new memory, every kiss, every touch, every hug, every laugh, every tear - would be erased with what you’re about to do.
Taking a deep breath, you placed the crown on the fire, and said, “With the eternal flame, you are...reborn.”
