which sounds like the bastard child of Miranda Sex Garden and Frankie Knuckles

And after 2016 he somehow had the most transformative political epiphany since Mussolini turned fascist (but in the other direction, thankfully) and turned democratic socialist—keep in mind that this man was the most rabid Bernie hater in America, and this includes the Republicans

In between, he apparently helped found the Huffington Post.

This is just a smaller observation that will hopefully someday be part of a larger analysis on Kabru's view of Laios & how Laios impacts him...

But I think it really interesting that Kabru surrenders something for Laios twice, and that these moments are inversions of each other.

The first time, Kabru gives up his life to maintain his control. He changes the course of the entire story with this action, and is willing to die to achieve that. Kabru is (supposedly) entrusting the future to Laios, but he is still very much the primary actor in the overall narrative. He is still the one choosing what the story should be.

The second time, however, Kabru gives up his control to keep hold of something personal and selfish (in the way of dungeon meshi selfishness - it is a good thing to keep this desire. It small piece of what makes him a living creature). He steps aside to let Laios choose the way forward. He surrenders narrative agency for personal agency... not changing the story, but changing himself.

It's Iida's turn to get the half masked imagery. Though for Iida it's done as an optical illusion since it's hard to half rip off a helmet in the same way as a cloth mask.

Anyway, this is Iida surrendering everything about himself in order to complete his perceived duty of avenging his brother. Because if he had succeeded in killing Stain (unless it was covered up like the All Might and All for One situation), the name Ingenium and Iida's hero dreams would have died here.

Speaking of All Might, this is Iida's most unheroic era but it's also his most All Might kinnie era. Because, yeah, of course there are high-minded rationalizations for why All for One and Stain should be hunted down, but the real reason All Might and Iida wanted them dead was because of the harm they did to a loved one.
