HOT GAMEDEVS DON'T GATEKEEP
Inspired by this post by @midwinterhunt, here's a compilation of all the game dev resources I have come across, most of which I use fairly frequently. Most of these are free, some are paid but fairly cheap. Feel free to add your own resources. ✌️
Important reminder: When using basically any works or programs someone else created in your games, make sure you thoroughly understand the licenses and terms it has been shared with. If you don't know what the terms are, reach out to the resource and ask. Don't be lazy about this; it's not only dishonest but it can come back to bite you.
Engines
Unity - Best suited for mobile and multi-platform.
Unreal - Tailored for shooters and high-fidelity experiences.
PICO-8 - Virtual console for simple games
Godot - Open source and free!
GameMaker - Good for 2D games
Bitsy - Great little engine for making simple games and experiences
Construct - Never used but have heard nice things
Scratch - If you've never coded before, this is the best place to start. Great for young devs and those who want to get their feet wet.
Adventure Game Studio - Best suited for adventure games
RPG Maker - Best suited for top-down classic JRPG style games
Twine - Text-centric games like Interactive Fiction
Assets
OpenGameArt - Many assets, various licenses, and plenty of CC0 content.
Unity Store - For Unity only. Some free.
Unreal Store - For Unreal only. Some free.
Godot Asset Library
Jean Moreno's Toon Effects - Some of the best effects available on the Unity store. Unity only but I've used them in basically every project.
Steamworks.net C# Wrapper For Unity - Unity only C# wrapper for integrating Steam compatibility to your game
Itch.io - Plenty of free art assets and game dev resources
Kenney - Kenney makes tons of open-source assets for devs to use.

XNormal - Free offline normal map generator
Normal Map Online - Free online normal map generator
Crocotile - Cheap tool for building 3D models from sprite sheets
MagicaVoxel - Free voxel modelling tool
Piskel - Free online sprite drawing tool
Aesprite - Paid sprite drawing tool
TurboSquid - Not always great quality, but can be good source of free placeholders.
Textures.com - Limited texture downloads per day but free for personal use.
Pexels - Free stock photo resource. Most are free for commercial use. Check licenses.
Clipstudio - Good for illustration or graphic design. One time payment.
GIMP - Image editing program a-la Photoshop. Free.
Audio
Audacity - Free and fully-featured DAW/audio editor.
sfx.me - Free 8-bit synth-style sound effect generator for games.
CastingCallClub - Easy forum to find amateur voice talent for your project (p.s.: you should pay them).
FreeSound.org - Free sounds, searchable by license. A go-to for my audio needs.
Incompetech - Royalty-free music by Kevin McLeod.
Scott Buckley Music - Royalty free with conditions. Generally more on the cinematic side of things but very good stuff!
SoundCloud - 'Search -> By Track -> Filter: Use Commercially' leads to songs posted with allowance of commercial use. Always reach out to the artist to understand their terms and confirm that it's okay to use with your project.
Project Planning
Keymailer - Handy for mailing keys to influencers (don't expect a lot of traction unless you're paying for some of the features though).
Trello - Kanban board. Great for organizing tasks, managing bugs, etc. Free.
Notion - Private text and wiki page editor. Good for project organization, note taking, and fleshing out ideas. Free.

ill do anything for something about Prismo, relationship Hcs or PDA Hcs, I don't care if it's sfw or nsfw, I love Prismo
Of course! Prismo is such an underrated character, Im so glad he’s getting more screen time and I can’t wait to find out more lore like who’s his boss! I’ll keep it SFW for now, but feel free to send in another ask for some spicier headcanons ;) Enjoy!
Prismo the Wishmaster x Reader General Headcanons
• I hope your love language is receiving gifts because hoo boy he is constantly showering you with presents
• Saw something you liked in a store but didn’t have enough money to get it? Bam, it’s right there in front of you. Craving a specific food? Here’s five servings of it.
• It gets to the point where you have to tell him to dial it back a bit, because getting everything you want whenever you want it can start to make life a bit anticlimactic.
• On a more serious note, part of the reason why he gives you so many things is because he’s afraid that you might leave. I mean yeah,he’s an extra-dimensional godlike being, but he’s also very lonely because of this and hasn’t had many serious relationships in his life. This has caused to think that the only way to keep you with him is to grant your every wish. He needs you to reassure him that you love him for who he is, and you don’t need all those things to want to be with him.
• Like Scarab, he can take on a human-like physical form sometimes, though this form is harder for him to maintain as he does it a lot less often than Scarab. In this form, he has dark skin, curly pink hair and bright blue eyes like he usually does, and he wears a comfortable pink kurta and pants.
• He uses this form for physical intimacy, which you’ll have help to teach him as he isn’t familiar with all the different ways humans show affection.
• “So this is how a hug feels! Haha, it’s a little weird, but I like it!”
• His TV isn’t just for watching over the multiverse, he can also pull up programs from any universe to watch, so expect regular movie nights/binge watching shows
• He also loves playing board games! He’s really good at them too, though he’s not that competitive. He just has a lot of time to practice
• If you started dating when Jake was alive, then he loves to hang out with both of you! Nothing is better than chilling with his partner and his best friend.
• Makes special batches of pickles just for you, and asks you to sample different flavors and give him notes on what to adjust.
• In the most non-stalking way, he likes to keep an eye on you whenever you go back to your universe. He just wants to make sure you’re safe, and if you ever told him you’re uncomfortable with this he’d definitely stop asap.
• He’ll only step in if he sees you in serious trouble, zapping you to the time room to get you out of whatever situation is causing you distress.
• For my trans, nonbinary and gender non-conforming folks, he is of course accepting of all gender identities, and if you aren’t happy with how your body or features look he’d be happy to change them for you! Only with your absolute complete consent though, he doesn’t want to permanently change anything about you unless you are absolutely sure it’s what you want. And of course, he’ll still love you no matter what you look like <3

stiles stilinksi: breakable heaven; part 5, “i don't wanna keep secrets just to keep you.”
a/n: enjoy this bc it’s gonna be sad boi hours in the next part ;)
tagging: @ariianelle
the world shifted, just a little bit.
stiles and y/n found themselves spending a lot more time together. granted, that time was often under the sheets, in a locked car, or- just once- in the locker room after a game. nonetheless, the skin on skin contact always led to conversations, conversations that were deepening in content. they were getting to know each other, forming an attachment both swore would never even exist.
as the time passed, they each found solace in one another, a comfort, a sort of destressor that neither was able to substitute with anyone or anything else. neither were aware of this, but it was as present as the air.
y/n's parents were always out of town, and, while she didn’t have any doubts that they loved and supported her, they were absentee. they missed out on the everyday moments in her life. so, she was usually all by herself through it all. sure, danny came over every once and while, but there were still those periods of time where she was left, literally in the middle of nowhere, all alone. stiles was a warm body to sit next to, an attentive ear to listen to her troubles or woes, without judgement or expectations. he was just there. whenever she needed or wanted.
and, for stiles, y/n was just a human being. she didn't have claws, fangs, premonitions about his friends' deaths, or any other intense, supernatural features. this fact he was positive of since he’d had both scott and derek invade and smell her locker to ensure she was really a living, breathing, human girl.
with all he had to deal with, every single day, he was grateful to get to act like a normal teenage boy some days out of the week. laughing instead of fighting for his life, watching movies instead of drawing up investigation boards.
today was one of those bad days, for the both of them. a bad day where they just needed each other.
the number of killings in beacon hills was rising, rapidly, day by grueling day. and there wasn’t much stiles could do to help. he could ramble, on and on, about the mindless theories rattling around inside his head. he could tag along to random warehouses and parking lots, only to hide away once the real conflict began.
but, he was overall useless to the entire process.
it made his shoulders a little heavier some days, to know he had no control over anything anymore. scott could take away pain, lydia could help save somebody before they died, allison could shoot down three different wolves with the same arrow.
stiles could only talk.
today was one of those days where he just felt kind of shitty about it all.
dr. deaton was missing. and there wasn’t much of anything stiles could do to help. he felt like he always just got in the way.
y/n was in a similar boat.
her parents were out of town for the third week now. they’d promised to be home this past weekend, and had talked y/n up with a week full of dinners, family outings, a visit to her school, normal things that parents normally did with their normal children. of course, they’d cancelled on her last minute because of some conference across the world. she’d asked danny to come stay for the week, but he said he couldn’t. he was going out of town with ethan.
she felt abandoned.
usually, y/n would sulk, by herself, with take out, a round of depressing movies, and homework she didn’t really feel like doing. sometimes, she’d even beg her boss to let her come in for a shift.
but, it was saturday evening, so the staffing was already full for the rest of the night.
so, she texted stiles.
y/n: pls tell me ur bored
stiles: what time?
y/n: anytime :)
stiles: omw gorgeous
–
“alright, i’ve got it.”
stiles plopped down onto the couch beside y/n, bowl of popcorn in left hand, a can of dr. pepper in the right. he crossed his ankles and stretched his legs onto the coffee table. y/n sat criss-cross beside him and extended part of the blanket she wore onto his lap. stiles set the bowl down atop his covered thighs.
“oh, yeah, what’s that?” he asked, taking a sip of his drink.
y/n pointed to the television, and he followed her gaze. netflix was open on the bright screen, with a movie queued up. “the first scream.”
stiles nodded appreciatively, until she added, “aka, the best slasher film of all time.”
he squinted his face and shook his head rapidly, “i cannot believe you just said that!”
y/n giggled at his expression, “don’t even argue with me right now!”
“it’s hard not to argue with someone who is so blatantly wrong!” he replied.
y/n stole the popcorn from his lap, “thats not even a good counter. at least make a decent rebuttal!”
“okay,” he peered over at her with a matter-of-fact look, “halloween is the best slasher because;” he counted each point off on his fingers, it has a cooler villain, better kill sequences, and the hottest final girl.”
y/n rolled her eyes, and shoved his shoulder with her own, “you just like it cause of jamie lee curtis’ boob scene.”
stiles pursed his lips, “they are pretty great.”
“but they didn’t need to add nudity to that movie! that’s so sexist and gross to support that idea, you pig.”
stiles stole a handful of popcorn, shoveling it into his mouth. “what can i say, im a boob guy.”
if she didn’t know him so well, she’d think stiles, in this moment, was kinda gross. but, she recognized his humor better than most. she appreciated that it was sarcasm. and, he kinda looked cute with his cheeks full of popcorn.
y/n blushed at the comment, looking down slightly, “oh, i know.” boy, did she.
he tapped the edge of the bowl, garnering her attention again, “don’t do that.”
her brows furrowed, meeting his eyes, “do what?”
“don’t be dirty. i don’t think we’ll make it through the movie if you start acting up.” as his words drifted out, stiles’ tone of voice lowered. he leaned his head closer to hers and the corner of his lips turned up in a devilish smirk.
y/n grinned in response. she grabbed the back of his neck, smashing her lips into his, drawing a sharp breath off his tongue. stiles moaned into her, barely catching the popcorn before it could spill. his other hand clutched his dr. pepper, so he didn’t have much leverage against her advances.
stiles clambered around until he found the coffee table, shoving the popcorn bowl atop it. “wait, wait, wait-“ stiles gently grabbed her biceps, tugging her off of him delicately.
y/n’s face fell instantly. she cowered away, hugging herself with her arms. she thought that was what he wanted, but now it seemed he was mad. “i’m sorry. i’m so sorry- i didn’t-“
“no, no, no,” stiles set a wary hand between them. “you didn’t do anything wrong. you’re okay, it’s okay.”
“i’m sorry,” she slouched, frowning. she relaxed a little bit, but the moment still worried her. “i thought that’s what you wanted?”
stiles shook his head and grabbed her hand, holding it between his like a prayer. “no, no- i mean- yes. i want you, i always- want you. but, i don’t- i don’t want you to feel pressured to do that all the time. i want to watch a movie with you. i like just hanging out, too. i don’t just expect sex out of you. that’s not all this is-“
stiles pressed his lips together. he always said too much.
always said too much.
y/n let out a breath she had been holding at the top of her chest. her mind raced with a thousand words she didn’t how to say.
this changed everything. the rules were blurred. the lines were crossed.
and it now seemed that, maybe, just maybe, he wanted her like she wanted him.
all she could say was, “okay.”
she didn’t want to rush things. she didn’t want to force him to label it. she didn’t want to get in over her head, throw her hopes up, and get let down again.
stiles’ worried expression fell into a gentle smile, “okay, hey, i’ll even let you think scream is the best slasher film, just for the night.”
an easy giggle fell out of her. “deal.”
stiles fixed the blanket across their laps that had fallen off slightly, while y/n tucked her legs up onto the seat, cozy against the back of the couch.
he stretched an arm across the back of her seat, inching over to her slyly. y/n bit back a smile and leaned into his side. stiles choked back a cough, a strangled attempt to clear his throat. he set his arm around her, fingers lingering over her shoulder.
the movie started.
it took them a few minutes to loosen after that moment. but, eventually, they fell back into their same routine- stiles made lame jokes, y/n nearly fell over laughing at all of them. he compared scream to halloween, calling out which parts would probably be better with a michael myers killer instead of ghost face. she argued back that he was a sore loser.
eventually, the movie was drawing to a close. the credit scene was just about to roll across the television screen when y/n’s phone started ringing from the coffee table. she jumped slightly, a little spooked from the movie, though she’d seen it a million times.
stiles tossed his head back, laughing over her fright. she shot him a dirty look as she reached for her phone. he took his arm off of her, but patted her thigh in a mocking manner. “don’t worry, i’ll protect you.”
y/n shoved his arm playfully, but her attention was drawn away by the contact showing up on her screen. ethan was calling her.
“give me a second,” she mumbled, leaving the room with confusion written all over face.
stiles watched her go, sitting forward on the couch. her distant tone worried him a moment. he pulled out his own phone, hoping for something from scott. updates, suspects, something. hoping the plague wasn’t going to reach her, too.
his screen was black.
stiles wanted to tell her about everything. maybe he should. it would explain his erratic, anxious, flakey behavior.
but, telling her would bring her into it.
and he didn’t know how well he could protect her.
so, the secret was just his for now.
stiles opened scott’s contact, ready to give him a quick call, just in case, when y/n reentered the room. “hey, everything okay?” he barely glanced up at her, but had to do a double take when he noticed how she looked.
y/n was shaking, visibly, clutching her phone in her right hand, which was still held up near her ear as though she was about to answer the phone again. a few tears escaped her eyes, and her pupils were dilated with fear and sadness.
“y/n?” stiles stood up, slowly, tone rattled.
had his troubles finally plagued her, too? was the one sacred, peaceful thing he had finally tainted by the cruelty of his reality? a million worried, terrified thoughts sped through his mind.
y/n met his eye, “danny’s in the hospital. he-he almost died. hi-his l-lung collapsed.”
stiles moved quickly. he carefully took her by the waist, guided her into a pair of shoes, into his jeep. he stayed attentive to her the entire car ride. he played her taylor swift, nearly sat at a 180° angle while he drove, kept a firm hand on her thigh, and spoke to her in a soothing tone. y/n was nearly mute. she didn’t know what to say or what to do. she was just too stunned.
it was always shocking to discover that death could just come knocking on the door whenever it felt like it.
when they finally reached the hospital, stiles opened the car door for her. she grabbed onto his hand, following him into the building.
no one was allowed to visit with danny, at least not until the morning. unfortunately, his parents were out of town, like y/n’s, and couldn’t get back until monday. so y/n and ethan were all danny had until then.
“so, he’s gonna be okay?” stiles scratched the back of his neck nervously, knee bouncing.
y/n sat beside him in a waiting room chair, clutching his other hand till her knuckles were white. they stared up at melissa, awaiting her answer.
melissa returned their stare them with a kind smile, “he’s gonna be just fine. we’re gonna keep him overnight, just to monitor him. but, he’ll be alright.”
y/n took a deep breath. her head fell back against the wall, eyes squeezing shut in relief. melissa nodded once, reassuring them again, before turning to leave. she squeezed stiles’ shoulder as she went.
stiles turned his body to y/n, taking her hand in both of his. she finally met his eye. he was glad to see hers, the storm within them more weathered now, calmer like the water right after a wave. he smiled slightly.
“hey,” he whispered.
y/n finally smiled back. “hey. i’m…sorry if i freaked you out. i don’t do well with near-death experiences. i’m kind of a pussy.”
she laughed at herself, head dropping down in shane. stiles disagreed quickly, “no, no, hey,” he pushed the hair from y/n’s cheek, cupped her face, guided her eyes back to his, “you’re not a pussy. you’re a human being. you were scared and worried for your friend. i’m not judging for how you reacted. i just want to know you’re okay.”
she nodded, “i’m okay. just- tired, now. that was overwhelming. sitting here for an hour, waiting to hear if my best friend was dead or not.”
stiles brushed his thumb over her cheek, “i know, baby, i know.”
the word slipped so easily off his tongue, that he didn’t notice. y/n did, but she wouldn’t allow herself to get bent out shape over it. there was no time for that right now.
“i’m gonna stay here with him tonight.”
stiles moved his hand back to their entwined ones, “i’ll wait with you.”
y/n shook her head in disagreement, “i can’t ask that-“
“you didn’t ask,” he interrupted her, pointedly.
y/n went to say something else when scott disrupted their moment. he came out of danny’s room, nearly appearing out of thin air. stiles could tell he was on edge.
“stiles, hey, i was just about to call you,” he said, glancing between the both of them. “sorry about danny, y/n.”
“thanks,” she smiled slightly, though she was confused. “how did you get in to see-“
“stiles,” scott pretended to not hear her, turning his attention to his friend, “we need to talk.”
stiles patted y/n’s hand gently, “i’ll be right back, okay?”
he stood to leave her, but she didn’t let go of his hand. she held on until he was too far to reach. before he followed scott down the hall, however, he turned back, shrugging off his jacket.
“i know you’re gonna need this,” he murmured, tucking it around her shoulders.
y/n watched him walk away with scott, a dazed smile on her face.
things might be working out.
–
stiles had to leave. at least, scott needed stiles to leave. derek, isaac, boyd, and cora were planning a trap or something of the sort, and they needed to go help them. stiles needed to go help his friends.
but he didn’t want to.
for the first time in his life, he didn’t want to help. he wanted to stay here, in the hospital, with her. he wanted to hold her hand, sleep in the uncomfortable waiting room chairs, until the second they could visit danny. until the sun shone on her beautiful face.
stiles didn’t want to stand on the sidelines while his friends blood splattered across the walls around him. he especially didn’t want to watch somebody die tonight.
but, he didn’t protest when scott ushered him out of the building.
he had to do what he always had to do. it was expected. necessary.
like a sacrifice.
–
y/n tucked danny’s sheets around his chin like a mother would, before standing back to look at her work, proudly.
“you’re clinically insane,” he glared at her. the eye bags drearing his face were more prominent in the lighting coming from the lamp on his bedside table. y/n frowned deeply at the sight of him, so tired, nearly lifeless before her.
“you’re my little baby,” she cooed, sitting down beside him on the bed. it took everything in her not to squeeze his cheeks.
“i am a man,” he denied her.
y/n waved him off, “whatever helps you sleep. listen-“ she stood up, collecting her phone and keys off his bedside table, “i will be right down the hall. do not even hesitate to ask me for anything. water, a hug, maybe some cuddles-“
“go to sleep. you look like a walking corpse.”
y/n felt like one. they’d just gotten home the hospital, and it was 8pm on sunday. the waiting room chair had been uncomfortable, and she had felt a little off with the absence of stiles’ warm hands and soft words. so, she didn’t sleep very well. plus, sitting beside danny’s bed all day while they ran tests just added to the tired stress she was feeling.
but, the solace of his smell on his hoodie, and his sporadic text messages, got her through it all. he checked in once an hour, every hour. his phrasing was short, though, and he didn’t reply very quickly. but, stiles was still there. he was there for her.
now, y/n felt like she was going to collapse. so, she softly shut danny’s door behind her and headed for the guest room. it was right next door. she was too scared to leave him alone, so she was going to stay until his parents got home tomorrow night. she was even skipping school to look after him. ethan was going to stop by in the morning, today, he, apparently, had been caught up with something.
she didn’t really trust him. but that was a problem for another day.
y/n slipped out of her fresh pajama bottoms to get ready for bed because it was usually pretty warm in danny’s house. though she kept stiles’ hoodie on.
that morning, at the hospital, nurse mccall had delivered y/n’s book bag, packed neatly with a few essentials, like pjs, her toothbrush, her phone charger, to danny’s room.
stiles had gone out of his way to ensure she had her things how he’d gotten into her house? she didn’t know, and she didn’t really want to question it. she was just grateful he thought of her at all.
y/n shut the light off and got comfy under the covers. just as she went to shut off her phone, a phone call came through.
stiles.
“hello?” she whispered, voice too tired to speak too loud. y/n lay her head upon the pillow, shoving the phone between her ear and it. she felt her eyes closing.
“hey.”
the sound of his voice brought her so much comfort. the exhaustion was takning over now.
“how are you doing?” was the first thing he asked.
y/n smiled, which was visible through her words as she spoke, “better now.”
“oh, yeah?” stiles teased gently. “i was just checking in. was worried about you.”
“i was worried about you,” she emphasized, “is everything okay? nurse mccall said you had to handle something.”
everything was no okay. stiles had watched derek kill boyd just hours ago. luckily, they’d saved dr. deaton, and found a few more clues that would surely lead them to the serial killer rampaging their town.
but his classmate- his friend- was dead. and he watched it all happen. he couldn’t do anything to stop it.
but, e couldn’t tell her that.
though, she noticed a shift in his voice, “yeah, just something stupid. scott was having girl problems.”
y/n didn’t believe him.
she was noticing more and more that he was always disappearing, running off to do stuff that he wouldn’t tell her about. his cover stories never made much sense, either.
the thought that he was keeping secrets from her made y/n feel wary, made her want to pull away.
but, then he’d say something like, “i’m more worried about you, baby.”
and she was easily pulled back in.
“don’t,” she murmured. her eyes fell all the way shut. she was drifting off to sleep, the sound of his voice a sweet lullaby to her ears.
stiles smiled to himself. he imagined holding her in his arms, brushing the hair from her face as he watched her fall into a beautiful slumber. it comforted him.
but, when he focused his mind again, he was back in the cold, dark animal shelter, which was barren of any good feelings like the ones he could only day dream of for now.
he thought about telling her, again. but after what happened today, he wasn’t feeling very confident about it. he really, really could not lose her.
he just couldn’t.
“you should get to sleep,” stiles spoke.
scott motioned for him. so, stiles added, “i have to get going.”
“i miss you.” y/n was half asleep, completely unconscious to any words falling off her tongue.
stiles’ smiled again. “i miss you, too. hey, i’ll come see you tomorrow, okay? maybe we can watch the next scream.”
she didn’t have the energy to respond.
“you there, y/n?”
no response.
stiles figured she was asleep. “well, since you’re not there, i guess i can say…i really like you.”
y/n heard.
and she’d never tell.
she liked him, too.
but, what secrets was he keeping from her?

Mayhaps a GN!reader who met Tyler while he was just starting out his storm chasing days. And was there, and helped, as he built up and fortified the truck?
thank you so much for the request!! i don't know if this is exactly what you pictured, but i hope you enjoy it :)
words: 1,476
summary: you and tyler have been friends forever, and the two of you spend some time tricking out his storm chasing trucks.
tyler owens masterlist
When you were kids, you had always been the voice of reason, and Tyler never tried to argue with that moniker. You had always thought that after the two of you went to college and started your adult lives that things would be different, but right now, as you stood there with your oldest friend in front of his busted looking pickup truck, you knew that he would truly never change.
Your eyebrows were raised as you looked between him and the metal monstrosity in front of you. “You’re going to use that to chase storms?”
“I already have, and it’s great,” he said, a huge smile on his face.
“Are there any safety features on it?” you asked. Electing to not mention the giant hole in the front passenger floor (which has been covered up by a stolen cut up stop sign since the two of you were teenagers), you couldn’t help but worry that this wasn’t going to turn out well (for both him and the truck).
Silence. The smile on his face faltered, and you knew when he didn’t have a quick retort that you were not going to like the answer. “I’ll be fine, don’t worry about it.”
You sighed, plans already running through your head as you considered what could be done to make that death trap of a truck a little safer. He was just lucky you had spent a few summers helping out at your family’s mechanic and body shop, and that you happened to be free this afternoon.
The modifications were rudimentary at first, especially since neither of you had the money or the connections to get what you wanted. You managed to rig up some simple anchoring devices and attach them to the sides of the running board, but it was clear from the start that these particular supports would not last as long as you wanted them to, and might not even be able to stand up to an F5 tornado, should he come face to face with one.
“Don’t worry about it,” Tyler said from underneath the truck when you had voiced your concerns once more, tightening the connection as you affixed sturdier racks to the roof of the cab. “I want to get a new truck down the line anyway.”
When he rolled out from under the carriage, your eyebrows were raised. “Where are you going to find a truck that’s got the features you need? Especially if you don’t want to be a ‘stuffy suited weatherman’ like you told me?”
Tyler laughed when you brought up the career everyone had been suggesting for him, especially because he had gone to school for meteorology. “I want to do something more than get a desk job,” he said. “Maybe I’ll be one of those people that gets famous for storm chasing.”
“I could see that,” you mused. He certainly had the looks and general charisma to be successful, and based on the way he’s always been able to smile his way out of any problem that crossed his path, you could see people online being enthralled with him. “You have to come up with some kind of cool name though.”
“What about The Tornado Man?”
“I don’t know about that one.”
“Oh! Or Doctor Vortex?” That one, if you were being honest, sounded more like the name of a comic super villain than a storm chaser.
Laughing, you just shook your head. “We can workshop a name for you later. Right now I want to make sure you don’t get blown away the next time you’re out in the middle of a twister.”
***
Unsurprisingly, the decade-old truck you had spent teenage summers drinking beer under the light of the stars in did not last long when placed in the paths of tornadoes at least a few times a month. You hadn’t been there on its last ride, but you couldn’t help but feel a pang of sadness when Tyler told you about it. The two of you were sitting on the couch in his living room, and pizza had already been ordered for movie night. “I’m going to miss that thing,” you said. “Even though I never wanted to be seen with it.”
Tyler’s laughter was infectious, and soon the two of you were nothing but guffaws and giggles. “Damn,” he said. “You didn’t even ask if I was okay.”
“I did too!”
He smiled, and you just rolled your eyes in response, having known him long enough to be used to the jokes he made.
“So,” you asked quietly, wondering what the response was going to be. “What are you going to use to chase now?” He had indeed been correct on his offhand statement before, that he could be someone that gets famous for all this. Now, after only six months of posting videos on YouTube, he was getting more and more recognition for his actions. The Tornado Wrangler was the name that had eventually been settled on, one that had taken an entire six pack and a rainy afternoon to come up with (and it was your idea, thank you very much).
“I got a new truck,” he said, eyes lighting up. “And I was hoping you’d help me trick it out.”
“I don’t know,” you said. “If the modifications we made before only lasted you a year, I wouldn’t want to ruin a brand new truck. At least the old one was so ugly looking it didn’t matter what we did to it.”
“And if we had some better gear?”
You paused before responding to him. There was a selfish little part of you that wanted him to stop this, because you had seen enough to know just how dangerous some of these storms are. But you were not going to join the cacophony of voices already voicing that opinion on a regular basis (namely, his family), so this was the second best option. You knew that this made him happy, even if you didn’t understand how anyone could ever enjoy it. If you could in some way keep him safe (or as safe as one can be in situations like that), maybe his new truck wouldn’t flip three times with the strength of a particularly strong storm (like the old one did).
“Alright,” you said. “I’ll help.”
The smile on his face only grew at your words. “We can start now if you’d like.”
“Lead the way Owens,” you said, allowing him to lead you to where the truck was parked. Secretly, you were a little more excited than you let on.
His new truck was nice, and the movie playing inside had been long forgotten as the two of you worked. You didn’t ask where he had gotten all these cool new gadgets, and you seriously hoped that this vehicle would be able to withstand what Tyler was about to put it through.
It was like deja vu, as once again you were standing in the bay of the pickup truck and attaching things to the sides, and Tyler was underneath the chassis. “So,” he said. “Are you gonna come chasing with me one day?”
“I don’t know,” you called down to him. “With all your new toys, will there even be room for me?”
“Of course, I’ll just kick Boone out and you can do all the camera work.”
You laughed. “I don’t think he’d be okay with that.” You had recently met the people that Tyler worked with to create his YouTube videos, and you loved every single one of them (you just weren’t sure how they’d feel about you being their replacement).
“Eh, he’d be fine,” Tyler laughed. “But seriously, if you want to go chasing with me sometime, just say so. I’d hate for the person who helped me put all this together to never get to experience it in action.”
You usually weren’t a thrill-seeker, not to the extent that he was. You weren’t usually timid either, but something about storm chasing had never really appealed to you. It was a lot more dangerous than riding a tall coaster or zip lining after all. But now, as you spent this time with Tyler working on the truck, you kind of wanted to experience it, to understand on a deeper level why he loved doing it so much.
“Once you take it out for a test run, then maybe we can go,” you said.
“You’ve got yourself a deal.”
Tyler smiled often; it was an expression that you were so used to seeing on him at this point that you sometimes didn’t even notice it. But right now, as he looked up at you with his legs still under the truck, you thought that this was the biggest smile he’s ever worn in his entire life, and you couldn’t help but grin just as wide.

Too Sweet
Summary: You're a new employee at Shigaraki's preferred café, and he takes a sudden interest in you.
Pairings: All for One | Shigaraki x Female Reader
Warnings: AFO is a creep, but he's a hot creep. Reader is attention starved. Set before his fight with All Might. Food/Feeding Kink
Part 2 -> HERE
All for One notices you the moment he steps inside the homey little coffee shop that's been open since before quirks had started appearing. He may have had a part in keeping the little business open, but he liked the coffee, and the owners had always been welcoming and friendly. He may be a villain, but even he could appreciate good customer service.
You stand beside the head barista, carefully following the older woman's instructions as you make the order for your current customer. You are meticulous in your movements, making sure nothing spilled and that everything was the perfect measurements before handing over the complete cappuccino to the waiting customer with a prideful smile.
Shigaraki enjoys the way that smile trembles when you step up to greet him, obviously nervous with the way you bite your bottom lip, but your voice doesn't waver when you greet him.
"Good morning, Sir. How can I help you?"
A toothy smile stretches his face, and All for One makes a show of looking over the menu. He knows exactly what he wants. He's gotten the same thing for decades after all, but he wants to see you squirm. After a moment, he abandons the board and looks down at you, his red eyes locking with yours.
"What would you recommend, dear?"
He watches the way swallow and follows the way your throat works. You bite your lip again, and the villain wants to know how those shiny white teeth feel pressing into his flesh. Would you squirm and blush under him like you are now? He levels those thoughts when you clear your throat, eyes flickering over his body and blushing even further.
"I like the caramel macchiato, but it's pretty sweet. No offense, but you seem like you prefer something a bit more bitter, sir."
Shigaraki is all smiles, "I'll take the macchiato, dear."
You nod, giving him another wobbly smile before you duck away from the counter to start on his drink. Shigaraki watches you the entire time, blood-red eyes never once leaving your blushing face and catching the way your hands shake enough that you accidentally put a bit too much foam into the cup. You take a deep breath as you drizzle caramel on top before turning back to All for One and presenting the cup with a red lipped smile.
"One caramel macchiato, sir," you say, and All for One takes the offered cup, then brings it to his mouth to have a taste. His nose scunches. The drink was far too sweet for his tastes.
You jump when he suddenly pushes the cup in your face, eyes going wide as you stare up at him, "Here, Darling. You were right. That is far too sweet for me. You try it."
Your cheek burns, but you reach for the cup anyway, only to have it pulled out of your reach. Shigaraki brings it back to your face, turning the cup so that you face where he'd put his lips, an encouraging look adorning his features.
"Sir, I-"
He cuts off any protest, "Don't worry, Darling. Just a little sip."
Shigaraki offers the cup again, chest tight with giddy anticipation when you lean forward and place your lips along the rim of the mug. All for One gently tips it up, red eyes locked on you as you take the smallest sip possible. A shiver wracks up his spine, and the villain wants you away from here, preferably back at his home here in Sendai.
All for One wants to see more of you, wants to see how you react to delicate chocolate and savory morsels fed to you by his hand. The need to steal you away and take care of you is almost overwhelming, and All for One basks in the rare feeling. It's been a long time since anyone has captured his attention like you have.
He pulls away after a long moment, tucking his cup close as you lean away from him. Shigaraki makes sure that you're watching as he takes a deep drink, lips sealed over the faint lipstick stains you'd left behind on the mug. He sighs in content, licking his lips.
"Much better," He praises and digs into his pocket for his wallet to pay. All for One makes sure to leave a generous tip before he steps back to allow the next customer up. You watch him, still dumbfounded from your interaction with him.
"I'll see you soon, darling," Shigaraki assures you with a grin that shows too many teeth. He feels like a little kid with a new toy, and he can't wait to see you again.

Origins of the Shop: The Shop and its Founders
As part of the 2,000 Followers milestones, The Shift Shop presents, Origin of the Shop.
AI Image generated through DeepAI. This story is completely a work of fiction. Historical features may not be accurate.
DATA RETRIEVED FROM THE ARCHIVES OF THE SHIFT SHOP. REPORT NARRATED BY TIMOTHEO HYEONGJU LEE.
-
It was around 1910s, when the Japanese took control of Korea. The suppression against Koreans was bad. I witness my people get bruttaly treated by the foreignmen in our own land. My family, I lost my own immediate family in just a month after they took hold of our country. I decided to find a way to escape this hell. Boarded a trading ship from China, making sure no one can trace me. I managed to do so, landing me to a foreign country I have never known.
I managed to escape Korea and arrived in the Philippines through a ship. I couldn't speak their language, but I can do a few English or so. I couldn't make any more suspicion, so I decided to stay low, but in tough times, one shall do anything to survive.
One day, I was starving. I had no money, nor any means of getting any, so I learned to steal. A few days, I managed to get food without getting caught, but that didn't last long as an American soldier saw me stealing bread at a local shop. They chased me around town, and I tried to run for my life.
That is when I met Stephen Diaz, a soap store owner. He hid me in his shop until the soldiers eventually gave up in looking for me.
"You can stay here. I'll make sure you're part of a family from now on."
Diaz was 3 years older than I am. He treated me like a younger brother and kept me in like what he promised, like a part of a family. Diaz, too, is alone. His family died under the Spanish Regime and making soap and selling them is his primary way to survive. Throughout those years of living in his shop, we became business partners. Eventually, we don't just sell soaps anymore. I thought him how to make herbal tea. We bought ceramics from chinese merchants we can use to brew them. We started selling tea leaves and herbs.
Although, business wasn't that great. Our sales didn't go well and eventually we get our feet deep in debt. We thought of everything we can do, but we had to close the shop.
It was devastating to see Diaz, my best friend and brother, working harder in other ways just to support us both, while I couldn't do anything. I can't find a job or people will suspect me for being here illegally. All I can do for Diaz is make him tea every night.
One night, I was harvesting herbs from our backyard. I saw a gleaming light a few bushes away from I am. Upon exploring, there I saw a floating white crystal. I felt it calling onto me. I hear it promising me things that can help us get back to our feet.
"I promise you a way to be more prosperous. A power to help those in need, and also to help you."
I was blinded by it, but I know how truthful its words are, I just don't know why. I came closer, and then I held it in my palm, and then that was the day I was bestown the power I hold now. Power coursed through my veins. Hunger and pain disappeared. I was stonger, less stress. I just know I felt better.
I took the crystal inside and kept it where we usually put our income every single day. The next day, I decided to open the shop once more, giving it one last chance.
Diaz and I were surprised with what's going on. Soaps advertised to bring your youthful skin back, started to actually turn people younger the longer they use it. Teas that promises strength started to make people bigger, healthier. We are in awe.
People started coming in, amazed with our miracle. Everyone were celebrating, except for one person, Diaz.
Diaz was skeptical with the promise of the crystal. He said there's a big possibility that the crystal was offered by an Engkanto, or a Mambabarang, who purposely didn't say that there's a catch with this power. That night, we argued. He begged me to throw the crystal away, but I can't just do that. All I want was to help Diaz, or maybe I was too greedy with the power I now have.
Diaz and I pulled against the cystal on each end, accidentally splitting it in half. I felt my power lessen, and saw the other half Diaz was holding turn black.
Right that moment, we noticed light coming out from the shop and saw people with torches and pitchforks, screaming at us, calling us witches and monsters. People started to abuse our store products and saw what can happen when they overuse it, and they blamed us for what happened to those people.
They started storming in the shop. Diaz was caught by the people.
"THEO!" He screamed as he reach his hand to me, "Help me!"
But before I know it, the crystal in my hand generated a big wave of force, pushing everyone outside, incluing Diaz, and with my last scream, everyone disappeared.
It was quiet. What used to be night sky, now sunlight peaks throught the window. I can hear chirping of the birds oustide. That is when I realized, the whole shop was transported to a different place.
I was alone. Whatever happened to Diaz, I have no clue. All I have was his shop, and the crystal.
From then point on, I built the shop on my own, using the powers bestown to me, fulfilling what duties the crystal gave me, helping others and myself.
Diaz, if only I were able to save you. My deepest regrets and apologies. I'll find you soon.

WASP REVIEW - ZASP (BUG FABLES)
[Image ID: The in-game sprite for Zasp, an anthropomorphic red, black, and yellow paper wasp /End ID.]
As some of y'all may know from my review of the game, I'm a big fan of Bug Fables, in which wasps are a wonderfully major part of the game (although unfortunately mostly antagonists throughout, though I don't take much issue with that due to some spoilery story reasons as well as the real world territorialism of wasps, much like the species of the other kingdoms), and there's perhaps no wasp in this game more iconic than reoccurring character Zasp!
At first glance, one might think this guy is based on a paper wasp such as Polistes metricus (Interestingly with coloration that's more representative of a female of the species than a male).
[Image Source: Myself | Image ID: A photo of a red, black, and yellow metric paper wasp on a grey wooden board /End IDs.]
But apparently, according to some messages from the co-creator and one of the character designers of the game (as seen in this post by @flame-shadow in the latter addition), he's actually a potter wasp, another subfamily of Vespidae! Finding this, I searched for a bit to try to find a species that he resembled, but results are thusfar inconclusive, with none of the species I've seen so far matching his short mandibles, yellow legs, black antennae, and mostly red and black face and abdomen quite as well as the Polistes species. Perhaps he bears some resemblance to species of the genus Rhynchium, but again, I'm unable to find a species that matches, especially with all species having such large mandibles.
[Image Source: Renjusplace, Wikimedia Commons | Image ID: A photo of Rhynchium brunneum, a red and black potter wasp on a green leaf /End ID.]
If I am able to find a species that fits his look, however, I'll make sure to update y'all!
In any case however, this does make sense with the fact he's unaffected by Hoaxe's mind control and his overall antisocial attitude, only truly being socially attached to Mothiva, as potter wasps are solitary species as opposed to the eusocial paper wasps! However, once again, Zasp possesses one feature that is more likely to be found on a female wasp rather than a male, which is his stinger! The stinger of a wasp is a modified ovipositor, an egg laying female organ, whereas male wasps are known to have either no sting at all, or a pair of unfortunately named "genital spines". Perhaps this could mean something about Zasp's relationship with his gender, but who's to say ^^
As a character, meanwhile, I'm quite the fan of him! The classic sort of edgy antisocial type, but the kind of guy who is clearly loyal to those he likes, often helping you after you help him out in the Honey Factory, although only when Mothiva isn't around. Ever the loyal partner, he does everything he can to help Mothiva, and appears to get extremely upset if you attack her, only getting worse if you knock her down!
In fact, there's a quest in the game, 'Lost Item', in which, you help return a plush doll of Mothiva to a "mysterious" hooded figure in Defiant Root
[Image ID: The icon for the quest 'Lost Item' from Bug Fables, depicting who is clearly Zasp in a cloak /End IDs.]
We all know it's you buddy, no need to put that cloak on! Upon returning the doll to him, he tries not to show it but he's clearly very excited to have it back, which is so so sweet!
There is one thing that may make his attachment to Mothiva a bit disturbing if you think about it too much, though, and that's the fact that potter wasps are known to mass provision their larvae with prey to feed on. This can include beetle larvae, spiders, and, of course, caterpillars!
-
Overall: 7/10

I make it a stern practice not to air my laundry. If I have a problem I can take it to a close friend whose council I trust, there's nothing to be gained from shouting it at the internet. But every once in a while something happens that I feel I can't go without bring up, usually because I think it impacts more than just me.
My mother, whose sharp wit features on my blog with regularity. is nearing eighty, is still working part time, is hard of hearing, and isn't terribly good at being on her feet for long periods of time.
Which is why sending her cross country to visit her grandchildren is always worrying.
I almost always fly her on Delta. This is because when I request wheelchair assistance from any other airlines they have never, ever delivered. Delta manages to have a wheelchair for her about 70% of the time, not good, but statistically better than 0%. Keep in mind that in the US, wheelchair assistance is required by ADA law and based solely on my experience this means that there are multiple violations of accessibility mandates on a daily basis.
Normally even if the airlines don't do their jobs this isn't a problem because I schedule her a longer than average layover so she has ample time to request skycap assistance from the courtesy desk. Always fun because her hearing aids work poorly in loud echoing spaces like airports. Yesterday was not normal.
Her departing flight was delayed, she missed her connecting and was automatically rebooked. Delta should have had someone to assist her but with all the passengers needing to schedule new connections they shuffled her to the side and told her they could help her in four hours.
And that would be the end of my story, and the beginning of my complaint if it weren't for Wayne.
I don't know Wayne's last name. But I know he works at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta. I know his job involves escorting unaccompanied minors to their connecting flights through one of the largest airports in the country. And I know he saw my mother, undoubtedly stressed at a long delay, an even longer layover, and the ring of a loud airport in her hearing aids.
Wayne stopped to ask if she was alright. He got her safely to the proper gate for her new connecting flight, he stopped by regularly over the next five hours to make sure she was fine, she was hydrated, she had her phone charged. He made sure she had a seat assignment and an updated boarding pass. It wasn't his job. I'm sure he had to snatch moments between tasks, probably on his break. There were other families relying on him to protect what was most important to them. But because of Wayne my mother made it to my brother's house safe and sound.
It wasn't his job. But the people who should be doing that job just didn't do it. And I'm sure there are excuses that sound good but when we're talking about the safety of a disabled, elderly person those excuses are hollow at best. We can do better, Wayne could do better when it wasn't even his to do.
I can't thank Wayne, I wish I could. I wish I could contact Delta and tell them Wayne in ATL needs a raise, he's stepping up and making you guys look better than you deserve. Knowing the current state of stupidity, they'd probably write him up for not focusing on his assignments anyway. So all I can do it air it here.
Thanks Wayne.

There’s been a few rumours that the Russos (and one of the writers from Infinity War/Endgame) may be coming back for Avengers 5/6! I’m curious about what those movies will be like, because they’re going to be even MORE crowded with a gazillion characters. 😅
And particularly, I wonder what the role of the Guardians is even gonna be in them… or at least Star-Lord, if no one actually has any plans to bring them back — which seems to be the most likely outcome. Personally, I wouldn’t actually mind too much if the new Guardians were brought back to join the final battle or something like that. It might be nice as a last hurrah for Rocket, maybe!
But what do you think? I know your opinions on those movies, so… I know what you have to say will be very interesting. 😁
oooooh boy. this just unlocked a whole bunch of competing thoughts in my head. i hope i can make sense of them enough to type them up.
here's the thing. i don't trust the russos or the IW/E writers but i am a person who (1) believes that people can grow and become better at damn near anything they want to, and (2) i am happy to be wrong. maybe the russos and whichever writer who is coming on board will have taken good lessons from the last five years since endgame (five years holy shit) and they'll come out stronger, better, more respectful storytellers. maybe they'll listen to other, better, more respectful storytellers on the team. hell, maybe disney will even let them be better (disney properties seem to be at their best when the mouse is least invested in controlling its indentured creatives). and of course, quality and effective storytelling won't only be on the shoulders of the russos et al. it will also be on the people who are working on the adjacent, intervening movies, and whether they are capable of and permitted to create compelling narratives and fully-developed characters along the way.
now, another thing i think will be tricky is if they choose to do another massive ensemble-battle (like the final endgame fight). i'm just not sure almost anything they can do will be actually satisfying to anyone who identifies with the characters who aren't the main focus. the reason that so-called "girl-power" moment in endgame was so fucken dissatisfying for so many of us was because it was unearned. condescending. you can't choose to feature so few of these women in the course of the whole movie, kill the only one of them with more than like three lines, and then throw every woman left alive into thirty seconds of battle choreography and think that your target-audience will see that as anything but patronizing. if the russos go for that level of sprawling battle-pageantry, that's what will happen, on some level. we just can't pay attention to every character the way they truly deserve when the cast is that massive.
and... i imagine this is exactly how the guardians would feature, if they aren't picked up by anyone in the meantime: one second of screentime in the background of a big fight, maybe with rocket's signature word as his new team advances to ultimately be lost in the ranks. or a singular star-lord, fighting on the side of the new avengers.
now, i'll let you in on a little and possibly controversial secret: i don't need more of rocket in the mcu. i think the mcu might fuck up a beautiful story. if they were to bring him back - unless it were a complete alternate timeline like a new cartoon - i almost think it would need to be a wholly different genre. here are the best ways i think disney could bring "mcu" rocket back:
fuck copaganda but brooklyn-99 had a distinctly guardians vibe in terms of a bunch of well-meaning dysfunctional idiots coming together under extremely exhausted but HIGHLY effective leadership. we could take this ride through space in a star-trek-esque adventure-of-the-week approach or base it in knowhere so we can really see what it looks like to be a guardian in that community, and meet some of the characters like xlomo smeth, ssssaralami, hoobtoe, the broker, HOWARD, etc.
mst3k but it's like, movie night on knowhere. they project some disney movie on the side of one of the bone-buildings and rocket and groot are always making commentary. but they're not the only ones. nebula's there, and for kid-appropriate movies drax and the kids are too. sometimes howard comes along and he and rocket get drunk and compete to be the harshest critic. adam tries to crack jokes sometimes but he's bad at it.
nebula and rocket during the snap. IN SPACE. mostly. i'll accept occasional visits to terra check in on thor. i suspect we see a lot of kraglin on the third quadrant and maybe spend some time helping with reconstruction in knowhere.
a super-ironic self-aware parody of some old sitcom like full house. i'm open to rocket being the father-figure and the new guardians being the chaotic fam, but i'd also be open to it focusing on the star children, calling it "drax the dad," and having rocket be the uncle-jesse-character. which brings me to my last option, which is
actually center the show around a singular someone else, like adam or phylla, and have rocket occasionally make an appearance as an important background character: a father-figure, a mentor, a captain, a guide, a beloved pain-in-the-ass. occasional conversations over the comms where he's like "are you eating enough? are you cleaning your cannons like i taught you? you still closing your eyes when you squeeze the trigger 'cause i told you to stop fuckin doing that. when are you coming home? nebula misses you and your brother is driving me fuckin crazy"
i do think there are other things that good writers could make work but these are the ones my heart rests on because i just don't trust disney/marvel very easily these days
WHICH IS ALL TO SAY
of course i'm gonna watch whatever disney/marvel puts out into theatres and/or on disney+, especially if the guardians are in it. and especially if my guy is in it.
but i'm also fully expecting to have my heart broken. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
as i said, i'm a person who is happy to be wrong.

I'm very sorry. Six months ago you commented on a Gordon Ramsey accessibility post that your job to help make websites accessible. How do I get that job? I would love that so much. I'm sure you've answered this before but I can't find it.
I, too, am sure I've answered this before, but I can't remember where and I'm not about to brave the Tumblr search feature to go looking, so you and @the0dd0ne get a twofer.
Hi, I'm not a bot, and I was wondering if I could ask you a weird career question? I saw your addition on that "Accessibility Nightmares" post where you mentioned it's your actual job to email websites about their lack of accessibility and what they need to do to make it accessible, and can I ask how you got into that? I got injured on the job and need to make a huge career change, and that type of work has always been really interesting to me, but I don't even know where to start to get into it! Also feel free to ignore this lol I know it's out of left field.
(This is actually the third question I've got on this, so no, not that out of left field.)
So the first thing to understand is that it's actually pretty hard to get into digital accessibility because there just aren't that many companies doing it. As far as I know from company meetings there aren't that many schools teaching it as a part of their core web development curriculum. It's just not that common to think about it as part of web development. Which is vastly irritating.
I started mucking around with the web when there was first a web to muck around on, but when the pandemic hit and my Mom suggested (in a hilarious twist of circumstances) that I go to one of those Learn to Code boot camps to get a certificate that said I actually knew my shit so I could get a job in web development. A number of these boot camps also have job placement programs and pipeline agreements with certain companies. and in a nutshell that's how I got into it. The company sent my boot camp a letter saying "we need N warm bodies" and they sent the company a list of names, I got interviewed, I got hired as a contractor, and after a couple years of good work for them I got invited to interview for a permanent position, which I got.
These days due to the state of the everything, there are probably 10-50 programmers for every open development position, depending on language and job type and company. It's a rough field out there and I got very, very lucky in my timing. But if you want to try it, the boot camp to job pipeline is probably your best bet. Ask the boot camp recruiters if they have connections to accessibility firms. If they don't, you can always try asking if they have connections to web development/site packaging firms and then check if the firms have an accessibility department. Tell the recruiter up front what you're looking to work in, and keep in mind that the recruiter's job is to convince you to give the boot camp your money. (Mine was $12k USD.)
For resources to study in the meantime, there's the A11y Project which has discussions, videos, articles, posts, etc about digital accessibility, a lot of good information. You can also look at the resources for the CPACC exam, I don't recommend taking it unless you have a few hundred USD to burn but you can definitely study up on the Body of Knowledge, which is a free PDF to download. And there is, in fact, an accessibility job board, although I don't have any experience with applying for any of these jobs cold.
The languages I use most in my job are HTML and jQuery, and I passively use (meaning I read and interpret but don't actually program in) JavaScript and CSS. This is mainly because we work with client sites and there's only so much of the client code we can touch; if there's a problem in the client code we can't touch we have to write it up and tell them to fix it. If you end up in house for some large brand you may end up working in more web development languages, but a lot of accessibility can be handled by basic HTML attributes called ARIA attributes (and roles) and there's the documentation on that. Another tool to have is your soft skills: communication, specificity of language, writing up good descriptions of what code does what so you can explain exactly what needs to be fixed where and why. You might also want to look at documentation on what makes good alt text, where it's needed, what kind of labels are standard, etc. I think you can find that in the A11y Project pages, but honestly I just learned it on the job working with senior developers.
It's a hard time to get into software development at all, let alone a niche field like web accessibility. But Europe is about to have a digital accessibility law come into effect in July of next year (that encompasses more than just the web, that's just my area of expertise) and the US is making slow but steady strides in requiring digital accessibility as well, so there are jobs out there and there might be companies hiring to capitalize on the need. There will definitely always be companies putting off conforming to regulations until the last possible minute, and then needing services and specialists. So study up, practice, and good luck!

And that's all! Once you do that, I'll get to your request ASAP :}
MISC. INFORMATION
I will try to publish requests as soon as possible! I've luckily got a decent bit of free time, but I am also chronically ill and have a life outside of Tumblr!
There is no real deadline with these things, as the main goal is (again) helping people and families in need. That should take precedence above all else.
Please don't feel pressured to donate! I know things are rough for everyone across the board when it comes to finances! If you happen to have the extra money and would like to contribute to this cause, then please do so!
This applies even to those who may not want something out of it. I've shared many fundraisers and resources, as have countless others, and there are proper channels to help people out 🫶
Reblogs are appreciated, and TYVM to the people hosting this and to all who have donated / will donate in the future!

Do you also listen to other kpop groups? I really can't get into kpop. I don't understand how they all sound the same. I think it's because of their voices, like that anime-ish voices. They all really sound the same to me. Ggs sound the same, and bgs sound the same, too. Namjoon's album made me realize how shallow kpop is. Their music industry lack variations. The top songs in their charts are all the same, like where's the substance? empty lyrics. onomatopoeia. loud background music. BTS are probably the only few whose music is so varied. I can't see the sincerity in other groups. They're all just there to perform and collect money.
... Anon.... Come on. This is ignorant.
Anime-ish voices?!
There's no difference between Korean pop and Western pop really. That's why it's called pop-ular music. It's appealing and fun. Formulaic in places for maximum audience? Sure. Capitalistic? Sure. But that's across the board. Not just a Kpop thing.
I couldn't tell you the immediate difference between Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo and Camila Cabello if I'm honest.
Where's the deeper meaning in "you can whip your lovin' on me, baby"?
"Bang bang all over you"? That's onomatopoeia.
Look at ANY pop song. They're not known for deep meaning.
12 of the Top 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 are Taylor Swift. That's over one fifth of the top 50 with literally no variation.
So do I listen to other kpop? Yeah, some. I'm exploring because I'm pretty new to the Korean music scene but I'm finding stuff I really love.
But crucially, it broadly reflects my taste in western music. I love individual songs from GGs/BGs, same way I love individual songs from GGs/BGs in western music. I listen to soul stuff and hip-hop mainly. All of which exists in the so-called k-pop arena.
Get out of your head about K-pop. If you don't like the sound, that's ok, but to make it a K-pop problem is weird when those same features exist worldwide.
RM's album is unique sounding but his depth doesn't mean everyone else is shallow. It's less about depth and more like a road. Some people are driving in the lane, some people are swerving all over the highway and some people are cycling with no hands through the fields besides the road. All it shows is how far from the centre Namjoon's thinking is. But everyone is still basically moving and getting where they need to.

What I'm Watching: April 2024
Back at it again with Rocky Horror Picture Show, A Knight's Tale, The Exorcist, Doom Patrol, Hard Candy, and Dead Boy Detectives. I did a lot of regular writing this month and it used up words that would have gone into this, so bear with me.
Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
A newly-engaged couple have a breakdown in an isolated area and must seek shelter at the bizarre residence of Dr. Frank-n-Furter.
I think I was still riding the very distinct high of Repo! when I decided to throw this on, and I think they'd make a good double feature. Shockingly, this was only my second all-the-way-through watch, and I can't tell you why that is, because I love this movie. I'm familiar with the discourse, but I'm in the camp of "context is everything" and back in the day? This was groundbreaking. Even now, the general celebration of embracing what gives you joy no matter what anyone else has to say about it is nothing to scoff at. And yeah, I cried at the ending. Do something about it. I am, however, ashamed to say that I did not do the time warp this time around...but I sang along, so that counts.
A Knight's Tale (2001)
After his master dies, a peasant squire, fueled by his desire for food and glory, creates a new identity for himself as a knight.
Kind of at a loss for this one, ngl. This was a combined favorite between me and my brother when we were younger, and we did in fact run through two VHS copies over the years (which reminds me that I still need to get my hands on a DVD). Not only does it hold up, but I think it's even better coming back to it after so long. The nostalgia still hits, and age/experience makes some elements hit harder. But god DAYUM, did it make me bawl. Found family, underdogs beating the odds, and Heath fucking Ledger. I'm still mourning that man, and I will until the day I die. If you've gotten used to me yelling about Mike Flanagan ensembles, then apply any one of those tirades here, because the supporting cast is Excellent™. This is the movie that introduced me to Alan Tudyk, Mark Addy, and James Purefoy, who have yet to disappoint me, and it also kick-started my crush on Paul Bettany. What can I say? I'm a sucker for the snarky smooth talkers who are simultaneously the smartest little shits in the bunch and also cringefail losers. And the soundtrack? Speaks for itself. You can't separate the music from the movie, and to this day I'll hear songs used and still think of this movie before anything else. This was the first place I heard my favorite David Bowie song! (I unfortunately lost my train of thought for the rest of this section, but) If for some reason you haven't watched this yet, I highly recommend it. It's fun, hilarious, and occasionally heartwarming. It's medieval Rocky! What else is there to say?
The Exorcist (1973)
When a young girl is possessed by a mysterious entity, her mother seeks the help of two Catholic priests to save her life.
I'm also at a loss on this one. Everyone has a few classics they just can't get on board with, and this is one of mine. Maybe it's just that religious horror doesn't do it for me, or that some nitpicks I have with the pacing and editing take me right out of it. Don't know, don't really care. None of that, of course, is to say that I think this is a bad movie, which is the most annoying part. I want to like it more than I do! Believe me! But the stuff that I take issue with kinda blow the whole thing for me. I already made a separate complaint post, so I'll focus on everything else here. Linda Blair and Ellen Burstyn carry this thing on their permanently injured backs (look up the production of this movie if you want to have a bad time) and there's no contesting that. Yeah, sure, the whole question of faith plot is no doubt compelling, it's moving as shit when good triumphs over evil, blah blah don't really care. The strongest aspect of the movie for me is the relationship between the MacNeils. You can't spend so much time establishing how close they are and how much they love (and like!) each other and expect me not to latch onto them. The entire point of that time spent is to make it hit that much harder when Chris breaks down in desperation to help her daughter. Tell me you don't feel something when she's sobbing and begging Father Karras to do something for Regan. Juxtapose that with how detached Karras is from his own mother and his guilt that he wasn't there for her when she needed someone, just for funsies.
Doom Patrol (2019-2023)
The adventures of an idealistic mad scientist and his field team of superpowered outcasts.
Ok. OK. You've been seeing my meltdowns ever since I started this, but that doesn't even scratch the surface of how weird/fun/cathartic this show is. I knew I loved it as soon as I saw certain casting announcements back in 2018 without knowing literally ANYTHING else about it. I'm just getting into season two, and I've already cried so much over these broken, chaotic, disasterpiece losers. Again, not many words for the roundup, but expect more meltdowns.
Hard Candy (2005)
Hayley's a smart, charming teenage girl. Jeff's a handsome, smooth fashion photographer. An Internet chat, a coffee shop meet-up, an impromptu fashion shoot back at Jeff's place. Jeff thinks it's his lucky night. He's in for a surprise.
Impossible--IMPOSSIBLE--to overstate how much this movie means to me. Discovering it when I was getting serious about writing changed the way I write. Learning about production changed the way I watch movies. And finding this story of all stories, exactly when I needed it, probably did more to keep me in one piece than we have time to discuss here. THANK. GOD. It still works. This one is right up there with Perfect Blue in that it skeeved me out so bad the first time I saw it that I had no intention of going back to it ever again, but the longer it sat with me, the harder it was to shake it off. The older I get, the harder it is to sit through, and I think that works 100% in its favor. I'm not about to make this standard practice, but here's the trailer, included because it's still my favorite that I've ever seen:
youtube
Leaving aside the story for awhile, the whole thing is top notch. Barring maybe fifteen minutes, the entire movie is one location and two characters. Naturally, things have to stay interesting somehow, and the script alone kicks ass. There is maybe one scene that could be cut, but that's it. Everything else builds off of everything that came before. The cinematography stays dynamic, with gorgeous wide shots and intimate close ups, smooth and sweeping movement during quiet moments and frenetic handheld action when shit goes down. The color palette of the set and the editing is harsh and atmospheric. The sound design is *chef kiss* crisp. And the performances pull all of that together. If the premise of 30-something guy and 14-year-old girl meeting online and then in person at his place isn't icky enough, then seeing how Jeff and Hayley interact with each other will do it. Patrick Wilson sells you on the charming groomer, and his casual delivery of some of these lines are, in context, fucking horrifying. Contrast that with Elliot Page, equally charming in the opposite direction, trying so hard to be mature and impressive. Each one knows they shouldn't be meeting the way they are and acknowledge how inappropriate the whole situation is, and with the first line of dialogue you get hit with this sense of dread over what is going to happen to this kid. And then the first twist happens. It's an interesting power dynamic, each trying to get one over on the other and overlaid with this commentary on predators in online spaces, how abuse victims are often dismissed and persecuted, and how the perpetrators of some of the most vile crimes you can think of never have to answer for what they do. It is baked into nearly every scene, and it could read very easily as soapboxy or heavy handed, but Page delivers it with rage and disgust, and paired with Hayley's moments of distress and vulnerability, it paints a very visceral picture that is so. Fucking. Cathartic. If I have to boil this one down to a single statement, it's "how you wish Lolita had gone."
Dead Boy Detectives (2024-)
Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine decided not to enter the afterlife to stay on Earth and investigate crimes that involve supernatural stuff.
WATCH THIS SHOW. FINISH THE WHOLE THING. I WANT A SECOND SEASON.

howdy! today i wanna talk about the aac system i use and go over how i use it
im currently using the app Coughdrop on an Amazon Kindle Fire 7. the version from 2022 i believe, which i think is the most recent. it was the least expensive new tablet i could get.
it's in a foam case that looks like Spiderman! i chose all black because it's unobtrusive and goes with my aesthetic but it was also available in red with black eyes and some other colors
i currently use a board called vocal flair 112. i previously used quick core 112 and this is similar, but has a built in on screen keyboard. which means i get less buttons on the home page but it's fine because i found myself pulling up the keyboard frequently to fill in the gaps even with that many buttons.
here's a screenshot, i haven't edited this page, i just use it as the default:
i don't actually make it speak aloud often when im out in public. the person with me who's supporting me (usually my mom) reads my screen if i need to talk to someone else. this is almost purely out of anxiety. the fear that someone will not hear me the first time, that they wont listen or won't understand, that someone will overhear a robotic voice and stare, etc. but it's an improvement over my previous method of texting my mom, pointing at menus, and mumbling or whispering until i either gave up or she finally managed to hear me.
i use this feature in coughdrop to have her read the screen:
it's found under the "repeats" section. it makes a large button you can press to voice the selection or you can have someone else read it.
i also quickly wanted to show my two "advocacy" boards. one is a premade board that ive edited and the second is made by me from scratch. i think im going to combine them eventually, but ive been lazy about it
these don't reflect my current "public use" pronouns, but that's fine.
my speech has always been pretty intermittent and unreliable in some situations, but more recently ive experienced some skill regression that makes it harder than ever to use verbal speech. even when relaxed and comfortable, typing or using aac is easier for me. and when even slightly stressed or overwhelmed or even overly happy or excited, it's very hard to impossible to get any words out.
im hoping to get better about actually using the voice feature instead of showing people my screen. the only time ive ever actually used aac to communicate with a stranger i showed them my screen. i have a lot of anxiety about not being heard which im sure comes from the fact that my voice doesn't always work and that's pretty scary at times. it seems im both afraid of not being heard and being heard but being made fun of or dismissed. im not sure what would be worse.
anyway, sorry for the anxiety tangent.
im hoping to get a strap for the case soon so it's easier to carry around. i tend to have several things with me at all times, my phone, talker, Nintendo switch, my small backpack, and a stim toy or comfort item. it's nice when i manage to cut back on what im carrying and it works out well, but sometimes i just need all those things to get through a situation.
i don't actually own the coughdrop app. im using a free version. it times out after about 15 minutes and you have to exit and enter again, as well as other premium features not being available. i was hoping to eventually save up for it but the price has increased recently to the point where it is out of my budget. maybe if i get a job eventually? even then im not sure if i can justify the cost. the monthly price also went up, which sucks. c'est la vie.
if you have any questions at all, im happy to try to answer! inbox or ask box or reblogs or anything works.
thanks for reading!
