Captain Levi had never planned to fall in love with you, the pregnant widow of a Survey Corps member.
Your husband wasn’t part of his squad, but he’d seen him fall, just seconds too late from being able to save him. He’d found a letter to you in his pocket and delivered it to you in person; it was the least he could do, he thought. You were gracious and thankful to have this last message from your sweetheart but Levi saw the depth of sadness in your eyes, and something else simmering just below the surface.
“I’m pregnant,” you confess. “Three months.”
“Do you have family to go back to?” he asked.
“I have no one.”
And that’s how Levi found himself visiting your house whenever he came into Trost. It was late fall, so the Corps was on hold from any expeditions, and after he picked up his usual cleaning supplies, he’d find himself picking up some things for you and bringing it by.
“There’s some tea there that is supposed to be good for morning sickness,” he says as he hands you a bag of groceries, “and some of my officer’s rations of red meat. I heard that’s good for a growing baby.”
“You’re too kind, Captain. You don’t have to do all this for me.”
You were right, he didn’t, but he couldn’t help worrying about you, a soon-to-be mother, raising a child on her own.
A month turned into two, then three, your belly growing rounder, your features becoming even softer. There was a glow about you he couldn’t describe, almost angelic.
His monthly visits had become weekly; you would cook him dinner and he’d stay until the fire in the hearth was embers, and your eyelids became heavy.
But this time, as he stood up to leave, you took his arm.
“Captain…could you stay? Just for tonight.”
He knows he shouldn’t. You’re still grieving and probably just lonely. But he can’t deny the pull you have on him. You’re beautiful and kind-hearted, witty and spirited. His thoughts drift toward you so naturally now, wondering how you’re feeling, if you need anything.
If you need him.
And so he follows you to the bedroom and lays on the bed beside you, making sure to stay on his side and give you the space you need. You toss from side to side, finally lying on your back.
“The baby’s too active tonight. I feel like I’m a human punching bag,” you sigh out, then you roll over to look at Levi.
“Do you want to feel it?”
You gently take his hand and place it on your belly. For a while, he feels nothing but the pounding of his own heart, touching you in what feels to him to be so intimate.
But then there’s a little bump under his hand. Then another.
Levi’s experienced many things in his life, but never has anything brought him so much awe than those two little movements.
He spent that night with his hand on your stomach as you drifted to sleep, and decided right then and there that he would do whatever it took to keep you and that little one safe, healthy, and happy.

its me or the ps5 (not literally)
summary: gamer bf beomgyu is in the midst of a lol battle with soobin but all u rly want is his attention :(((
genre: all fluff, no plot
characters: gamer bf!beomgyu x f!reader
words: not too many (i havent counted)
warnings: kinda suggestive but other than its pretty fluffy hehe
It had been hours since he last spoke to you. No, he wasn’t angry. No, he wasn’t upset with you. He was just really into his game.
You lay in bed, the soft glow of the screen casting shadows on his back as he sat at the computer, shouting curses between bursts of laughter. His words, loud and rapid, formed a jumble you could only half understand—it felt like trying to learn a new language, each phrase coming out as broken sentences.
“Something something, I’ll go mid, something something.” You managed to grasp this much.
You craved his attention. Sure, your last date was just three hours ago, but it wasn’t enough. He’d spoil you so much during the date that you’d gotten greedy. You needed him now—his attention, his hands, his words. But there he was, locked in with his favorite thing in the world: his pc.
“He missed me! Dude, he missed me!” Beomgyu yelled into the mic, laughing loudly. His fingers flew across the keyboard, the rapid clicking almost rhythmic. Out of curiosity, you peeked around the corner from your spot on the bed and watched him play. You didn’t really know how to play League, though you’d seen him at it plenty of times and had dabbled a bit when he’d offered to teach you.
Your body inched closer and closer, curiosity pulling you toward the screen. You could see his character zooming across the map, darting from one point to another. From what little you understood, he was doing really well—so well, in fact, that it made you feel even needier than you already did.
As you scooted inch by inch across the bed, you unknowingly reached the very edge. Before you realized it, your body slipped off, sending you tumbling to the floor with a soft thud. You let out a yelp, "AUGH!" The sound echoed through the room, catching your boyfriend’s attention. Beomgyu turned, eyes widening as he saw you sprawled on the floor.
"Baby, what are you doing on the floor?" His voice was laced with concern, though you could tell by the twitch of his lips that he was seconds away from bursting into laughter.
“Nothing.” You said, still on the floor.
He chuckled, standing up and making his way over to you. With a playful grin, he lifted you off the floor and gently placed you back on the bed. Leaning down, he gave you a quick kiss on the lips. “You’re an idiot,” he said, his voice overflowing with affection.
“Yours,” you agreed with a giggle.
“CHOI BEOMGYU!” A muffled voice shouted through his headphones.
“Shit. Coming!” he yelled back, giving you one last quick kiss before rushing back to his chair. As he put his headset on, he shot back, “Shut up. You’re one to talk, you fucking virgin.”
You chuckled, knowing they were probably teasing him about you.
You huffed, puffing out your cheeks in frustration. Falling wasn’t part of the plan, but at least you had his attention for a moment. Was that full minute enough to satiate your needs? No. You wanted him in bed, cuddling you and recounting his day—though you had spent the entire day together.
Your phone buzzed.
Soobin: get ur bf off the pc
You: ???
Soobin: hes annoying wtf
You: youre literally stealing him away from me u asshat
Soobin: hes literally rite beside u
You: men r so dense
Soobin: hes SAYING HES WINNING and telling all his friends that he won over me when he didnt
You: why are u so mad its just a game
Soobin: U SUCK
“Baby, is Soobin’s character dead?” you asked.
Beomgyu glanced over, lifting the left side of his headphones. The faint glow of the computer screen reflected in his eyes. “Did you say something, sweetheart?”
“Is Soobin’s character dead?” you repeated, a teasing smile on your lips.
He nodded, a focused look on his face. “Yeah, why?”
You laughed, turning back to your phone. “Nothing.”
“Is he texting you?” Beomgyu asked, a hint of jealousy creeping into his voice, though you probably didn’t notice.
You nodded, rolling your eyes playfully. “He’s just being annoying.”
“What’d he say?”
You shrugged. “Nothing much. He’s just talking about the game.”
“To you?” Beomgyu’s tone was sharper, and you looked up from your phone to see him fully turned toward you now. A far cry from just two minutes ago when he had been giving you only side glances. His complete attention was on you, a mix of curiosity and something else flickering in his eyes.
This piqued your interest. Was he jealous?
“Yes, Gyu. To me.” You laughed, placing your phone on the bed.
“Gyu?” His brows furrowed slightly, and you could see the shift in his expression. You knew that hit a nerve. He was expecting terms of endearment—baby, my love, sweetheart, darling, angel, daddy—but hearing just his name, the nickname you used when you were still friends, made him twitch.
“Gyu?” he repeated, a slight edge to his voice.
“Is that not your name?” you teased, a playful smile on your lips.
“No. Not to you.” He frowned, his focus shifting entirely away from the game. You watched as he pressed a button on his PC, the lights on his headphones flickering off. He had muted his friends, the sounds of the game fading into silence.
He took off the headphones and set them on the desk, then slowly made his way to the bed, his expression darkened as he approached you.
“Hm, really now?” You grinned, knowing you were reeling him in.
“To you, it’s baby,” he pouted, crossing his arms dramatically. “Why are you calling me by my government name?”
“Gyu is not your government name.” You laughed.
“Yes, it is. Y’know who calls me Gyu? My mother. Are you my mom?”
“No I’m not, Gyu.”
“You did it again!” He gasped, eyes wide with mock horror. “Evil has gotten to you. You’ve been hanging out with Soobin too much.”
“Don’t be an idiot.”
“Baby~” he whined, leaning closer. “Do you still love me?”
You rolled your eyes, a smile tugging at the corners of your mouth. “Aren’t you the one ignoring me for a game?”
“Ignoring you? Baby…” He feigned innocence, and you couldn’t help but laugh. “I stopped my winning streak for you. Now Soobin’s gonna go berserk, posting on every social media that he won. I did this for you.” His expression was a mix of exasperation and affection.
“No. You stopped because you got jealous of your friend.”
“Soobin’s gorgeous. You can’t blame me for being jealous.”
You chuckled, “Soobin’s gorgeous? That’s your defense.”
He nodded aggressively, “Yes! He is. Didn’t you have a crush on him when we were all just becoming friends?”
Now you were confused, “Huh?”
“You had this major crush on him, didn’t you?”
“No. No, I didn’t!”
“Yes, you did!”
“You’re making this up! Are you sure you’re not the one with a crush on him?” You accused.
“Look, he’s gorgeous and all, but… I’m into you. Specifically. If anyone asked me what my preference was, I’d say you. I’d always say you.” Beomgyu sighed, kneeling in front of you, resting his chin between your legs as he gazed up at you with earnest eyes.
You nodded, a satisfied grin spreading across your face. “Looks like I trained you well.” You ran your fingers gently through his hair, feeling the soft strands slip between your fingers.
“Mmf, play with my hair,” he murmured, sighing in contentment.
You always told everyone who asked that your boyfriend resembled a puppy—his big, expressive eyes and playful nature made it impossible not to think so. He loved being pampered, adored the feeling of your fingers massaging his scalp, and thrived any sort of affection you showered him with.
“You sure? You seem like you’re losing,” you pointed out, glancing at the game still unfolding on the screen.
“I don’t care,” he replied, waving a dismissive hand.
“Really now?” You tilted your head, curiosity evident in your expression.
“Mhm.” He nodded confidently. “I’ll let Soobin win.”
“That’s the first.” you said, raising an eyebrow.
He nuzzled his cheeks against your bare thighs, a playful pout forming on his lips. “Please,” he begged, looking up at you through his eyelashes.
“Sure, Gyu.” You teased again, a mischievous glint in your eye.
“Again? Really?” He lifted his head off your legs, feigning exasperation. “Do you want me to start crying?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” you replied, trying to keep a straight face.
“Repeat after me. Ba…” He shifted above you, placing his arms on both sides of your legs, propping himself up so you were face-to-face with him. His eyes locked onto yours. His arms held your back, pushing you closer towards him.
You had been dating for years, yet it was almost excruciating how he could still make you feel giddy, even after countless sleepovers. The way he looked at you, the way he kisses you, the playful banter that never seemed to bore you.
“Ba…” You followed, grinning.
“By…” He leaned closer, whispering into your ear, his breath warm against your skin.
“By.”
“Good girl.” He pecked your cheeks lightly, a playful smile spreading across his face. “Now say it all together.” His face was so desperately close to yours, his eyes sparkling with anticipation, begging to hear the words.
“Baby,” you finished, your voice barely above a whisper.
He grinned, his eyes sparkling as he grabbed your chin, pulling you in for a deeper kiss. “Don’t forget that.”
“How could I?” you murmured, breathless under the warmth of his lips, your heart racing.
Lost in the heat of the moment, the two of you spent the next few minutes locked in a deep, passionate kiss. Your bodies pressed together, his hands exploring every inch of you, yet always remaining gentle. The intensity of the connection between you both grew with each second as each kiss grew desperate and needier, you couldn’t help but wish you could see him everyday.
You tapped Beomgyu’s arms as you both slowed down the kiss, exchanging gentle pecks between your playful conversation.
“Baby.” Peck.
“What do—” Peck.
“You think—” Peck.
“About—”
“Mmf, I can’t think right now.” Beomgyu continued, playfully pushing you down onto the bed as he showered you with kisses.
“Baby, this is important.”
“What could be more important than this?” he replied, giving you one final peck before falling beside you, entwining his fingers with yours.
“Well, what do you think about living together?” you asked.
“Hm?” His eyes lit up with curiosity.
“We're already always at each other’s places,” you explained, a hopeful smile playing on your lips.
“You just get smarter each day, don’t you?” he teased, propping his elbows on either side of you as he gazed down, admiration shining in his eyes. “Because I think that’s the smartest thing anyone has ever said. Even Einstein couldn’t figure this out.”
“Baby, it’s a yes or no,” you laughed, enjoying the playful banter.
“As if I’d say no to staying with the world’s most perfect person.” He scoffed in mock disbelief, a grin spreading across his face. “And imagine this: we could stay in bed all day after doing all sorts of things all night.” He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively.
“Gyu…” you looked at him sternly, trying to suppress a smile.
“Again with my government name!” He exclaimed dramatically.
You rolled your eyes, unable to hide your affection. “I love you.”
“And I love—” He pressed his lips onto yours, silencing you with a kiss. “You.”

JUNO
WORD COUNT: 2K MASTERLIST this is a part of the short & sweet fic challenge @harry-on-broadway let me know what you think 💘 hope you enjoy!
The sun was casting a warm golden glow through the windows of your living room as you sat on the couch. Harry was in the kitchen making your nightly tea as you rested on the sofa. It was a peaceful evening, like many that you have shared over the last three years. This familiar feeling and routine was something you cherished especially with the hectic schedule Harry’s life could bring.
A year ago, he finished his two year long world tour. It was an incredible feat and one that was an emotional roller coaster since it began. He had his entire life planned from the minute we all went into lockdown to the final show in Italy and these last seven months were spent just making up for lost time. He was always home when you came back from work, he was the one that was traveling on your schedule and your terms. It was a great change from how your relationship was before. You didn’t have to anticipate the day that he was going to go away for weeks at a time because you were a part of that decision making now and it only made the two of you stronger as a unit.
You glanced at the framed photos on the mantel: you and Harry in various stages over the last three years--goofing around backstage at Coachella, the night he turned his green room in MSG into a home theater and begged security to let you two spend the night after you just got off a six hour flight to surprise him for his last show. It was the simple moments that were your favorite, the picture of you walking through the Heath, a cup of coffee and pastries in tow for your favorite weekend tradition of a Saturday morning picnic.
This was the first year that you were able to think about the future just as it pertained to you and Harry. You didn’t have to think about how your life decisions factored into anyone else's. You always knew you wanted to have a family. He was always going above and beyond for the children in his life not just by spoiling them with gifts but checking up on them and making sure they knew that he was always there. And this became more apparent when he became an Uncle. He was always the first to offer up babysitting so his sister and her partner could enjoy some quality time, even making the trek up to Cheshire to watch his cousin's children if they asked.
So, when Harry walked back into the living room with a cup of tea for you and snacks for himself you sort of blurted it out before you had the chance to second guess the right time for this conversation.
“I’m ready to have a baby.”
Harry’s eyes widened, completely caught off guard, “What?” almost second guessing what you just said.
You take a deep breath, your heart racing realizing that you are not going to be able to take those words back. “I’ve just been thinking, we have talked about the future a lot as this far-fetched idea but we’re here now and…” you paused looking up at him, his expression shifting from the initial shock, he leaned closer, taking your hands in his. You knew how Harry worked and the subtle shift in energy was all you needed to continue, “I know not to think, I know I’m ready… for that next step.”
A moment of silence stretched between you as he processed your words “You really mean that?”
“More than anything,” you admitted, looking into his eyes. “I can’t imagine going through that journey with anyone else. And it just feels good right now, us, we are so good right now and there is just no reason to wait.”
Harry’s expression softened, and you could see the wheels turning in his mind. “It’s a big step, probably one of the biggest steps we will ever take together.”
“Will we ever truly be ready?” You chuckled softly, trying to lighten the mood. “Life is unpredictable, but I want this with you.I want to build a family together.”
He was quiet for a moment, his gaze drifting to the window. “I’ve thought about it too,” he finally said, turning back to you. “I want that. I’ve always wanted it honestly. I remember the first time you met Ruby and the way she was instantly drawn to you. S’probably when the thought first crossed my mind.”
You remembered that day. You were so incredibly nervous to meet Harry’s close group of friends. It was Ruby -- his God daughter’s 4th birthday. You had only been dating for around three months at that point. You remember stressing about what to buy her as a gift and even though Harry promised no one would think twice if you showed up empty handed. You still scoured the internet looking up every list of ‘best gifts for a 4 year old girl’ and settled on a Peppa Pig Camper Playset with all the characters. And to say it was a hit was an understatement. The two of you still joke about how as soon as Ruby opened her present she demanded that you stay after to set up the toy and play with her.
Harry remembers watching the way you were interacting with Ruby and how her father, Ben made a comment about how he had never seen Harry so fixated on someone before like he had you. It was still early days but he always went back to that moment and how it led you to where you are now.
“So, are we ready to do this?” You asked with a mix of excitement and nervousness in your voice.
“You know, if we really want to be serious about this. We’re going to have to start practicing.” Harry teased pulling you closer to him. The warmth of his body against yours as his lips met yours. The kiss was soft at first, tentative like he was emphasizing the importance of the moment you just shared.
You pulled away first, a smirk on your face, “Hmm.. practice? I’m feeling a little tired right now,” You teased with a wide yawn stretching your arms over your head. The playful banter that you know drives him crazy. Harry moves his hands to cup your face, his thumb glazing over your lips again, “C’mere” he whispers. He begins kissing down your neck, leaving small kisses along his path from his lips. You move your hands through his hair, as he scoots back on the couch, pushing your shirt up in the process and you help to take it off.
The kisses continue. He’s moving down your neck, between your cleavage and he stops right at the top of your stomach. His hands that were holding yours moved to touch your belly — picturing what was going to happen next. The commitment to a family and how you would be the home for his future baby. You were almost tearing up at the sight of him and just how careful he was already, always putting your needs first and making you his priority.
“You’re gonna have to use your words, baby,” You whisper as Harry moves his hands to the waist of your pants. You are already ready for him and he knew it just by how much you were wiggling under him trying to get him to move faster.
“I want you,” he says in a low breathy tone before helping you get your pants off. You move your weight onto your forearms to get a good view of him. You watch as Harry slides your underwear to the side, a rush of pleasure washing over the both of you. “So wet for me…” leaving his lips as he moves his fingers up and down your slit. The juxtaposition of the sexyness and tenderness of the moment right as he slid one and quickly two digits in pushing his fingers in and out. The pleasure washing over your body, the whimper of ‘Oh yes’ and ‘Baby’ a moan escaping your lips as you rode out your first orgasm.
His lips are immediately back on yours as you slide your hand into his pants pushing his joggers off trying to keep every part of your body touching. After being in a relationship for three years you still periodically used contraceptives especially when you are in the thick of it with his work never wanting anything to come in the way of jeopardizing this unspoken tension between the two of you. And tonight, was going to be and feel different, no more trying to locate the last spot you left condoms going on stretches of time of just trying the process. This was intentional and you felt the mutual giddyness as you slid your hand down his length pumping him once, twice, three times before Harry is ready for you.
“M’not gonna last very long,” he says before aligning your hips before pushing in deep. Taking a couple of deep breaths as you move your hips along with Harry as you adjust to the familiar feeling of him inside you. Harry leans his head toward you leaving kisses all over him, your nails dragging up and down his back.
“Tell me it feels good,” You whispered the sounds of your mutual pleasure echoing in the room.
“Feels so fuckin’ good, always s’fuckin good” Harry was moving faste and harder meeting your gaze right before letting himself go inside you. His body collapsing on top of you as both tried to catch your breath from the pleasure. You had your arms wrapped around his body wanting to keep the warmth of his body on you forever.
You cleaned yourselves up and spent the rest of the night thinking about your future and how you were going to take that next step forward. Harry was your safe space and you were his. You both knew that this next step forward would be unlike anything you’ve done before but you were both ready, as a team to make this next step.
And one day, you will be in this same living room waiting for Harry to finish making a bottle for your future baby - and boy, could you not wait.

Trouble in Paradise (Part One)
Tumblr media
Pairing: DBF!Joel Miller x f!reader
Word Count: 3.4k
Summary: Of all the things you thought you might be doing on your summer break, falling in love with your father's best friend in Hawaii wasn't one of them.
Tags/Warnings: Nothing crazy yet! Some kind of maybe tension, pet names, talk of Joel knowing reader since she was small, reader has a dad, mom is not mentioned, yadayada
A/N: Hello my friends! I'm terribly sorry I've been away for so long. There have been a lot of...unsavory happenings lately. Want to say sorry in advance because I know this isn't my best writing, but i'm trying to get back into the groove of things. I'm hoping I'll be back to my scheduled programming (TTF, FB, answering requests) by the time this short series is done. Expecting it to be around 3-5 parts. Thank you so much for sticking with me <3
*******
You’ve been laying in your bed blasting your “chill” playlist through your earbuds since you got home from school around five. The last exhausting day of your freshman college year. Lana Del Rey, Cigarettes After Sex, Hozier, and the like have been floating lazily through your head as you watched the sun go down.
After a long day, you’d hung your head off the foot of your bed, intent to bask in the golden glow of the evening in a baggy T and your underwear until your eyes shut for the night. You were almost asleep when you were interrupted by a sound that didn’t quite go with “Wicked Game”.
You yank your earbuds out, sitting up on your bed. You don’t remember it getting so dark. Your cracked window allows the late summer breeze in to gently rustle the curtains framing it. Crickets and cicadas chirp loudly outside, creating a symphony to compliment the stars shining through the inky sky.
“Sweetheart?”
Your head swivels to look accusingly at your closed door. The name was shouted from the stairway. Definitely your dad.
You roll your eyes but get out of bed. The clock on your nightstand tells you it’s 8:02pm, so he’s probably calling you for dinner. You’ve told him before that it’s easier just to call your cell, but when has he ever listened? You pad to your door, crack it, and shout back.
“Be down in a minute!”
Getting no response, you can only assume he heard you. You close your door back and pick up the polka-dotted pajama pants crumpled into a pile beside your bed. You tug them on through a yawn, almost tripping a few times before they’re on all the way.
You check your mirror before heading down. You look sleepy, not like it really matters. Your door creeks as you push it open again and make your way down the stairs. The soft carpet laid in the middle of the hardwood keeping your steps quiet. It’s about halfway to the kitchen that you hear a second voice to your father’s. It sounds vaguely familiar, and your heart skips a beat. Surely it’s not—
You climb down a few more steps and stop in your tracks at the sight of Joel Miller sitting at your dinner table. You haven’t seen him since at least your high school graduation. You’d harbored a small crush on him then, but that had to have been nothing compared to whatever the hell you’re feeling now. Your entire body seems to glow with some mix of embarrassment and surprise.
You really thought you’d gotten over this silly little crush. Then again, it’s hard to get over something like Joel Miller. High school boyfriends? Sure, no problem. But the classic DILF next door of a best friend your dad has isn’t so easy. He’s been a constant in your childhood, always kind and there for you even when your dad wasn’t. So, in other words, highly inappropriate for you to be so attached to.
It’s easy to say the years have been kind to him. He’s a few years older than your father, so probably about mid-forties now. He’s started to gray, a fine amount of silver peppered into his mousy brown hair. That beard of his has taken the brunt of it, though. That beard you’ve imagined between your thighs so many times.
His dark eyes seem to have become kinder thanks to the crow’s feet carefully etched into the corners. He’s wearing his signature T-shirt and worn jeans, his brown leather jacket and work boots likely disposed of near the front door.
He smirks as his brown eyes fall on your disheveled form, halted on the bottom step. You, in contrast to the god-like figure he’s sporting, must look like an absolute mess. Despite that fact, he looks at you almost in a different way than he used to. More intensely. It makes you resist the urge to squirm.
“Joel,” you finally manage to choke out. “Hi.”
Smooth, you think.
“Hey, trouble,” he returns, light amusement lacing his tone. It makes you nervous, like he’s clocked your little secret.
He gets up from his seat, and you can tell he’s going for a hug. You shock yourself into action and take the few steps to reach him. He envelops you in his strong arms just like he used to, and you take the opportunity to breathe in his scent. Smokey pine, whiskey, and a hint of mint—just like you remember.
You’re smiling like an idiot despite yourself as you pull away. Luckily, your dad makes an appearance before you say something embarrassing.
“Hey, sleeping beauty,” he teases. “You remember my buddy Joel, dontch’a?”
Joel scoffs before you can answer. “‘Course she remembers me, Scott, known her since she was damn near in diapers.”
Your dad rolls his eyes. “Well, just to ask,” he argues.
You shake your head. Same banter between those two for as long as you can remember. They’ve been friends since your dad’s freshman highschool year, and Joel’s senior. Everyone who knows Joel and Scott considers them to be brothers as much as Joel and Tommy.
Cheeks heated, you make your way to the bathroom to freshen up while they’re distracted. You shut the door and comb through your hair with your fingers, straighten your tank top, and wipe away the smudged mascara you didn’t care to wash off earlier.
When you look half-decent, you wash your hands and walk back to the dining room, choosing to ignore the fact that you just tidied yourself for your dad’s best friend. Totally normal thing to do, right?
Joel is sitting back in the same spot as you found him the first time, your dad in the seat opposite of him. There are three bowls of spaghetti served, one in front of each man, and one beside Joel. You’re not going to complain about that.
You slide into the seat next to him, flashing him a quick smile when he turns his head to acknowledge you. You swear his gaze lingers for a second, but it’s probably just wishful thinking.
You look away and dig into your food, zoning out as Joel and your dad talk about work. Joel’s presence beside you fuels your daydreaming, his deep, drawling voice keeping it running. You wish so badly to lean into him, feel the comfort of his embrace. Maybe more. You wish, not for the first time, that he would look at you the way you looked at him. You wish he would—
You jolt when you hear your name in conversation, your spaghetti-filled fork halfway to your mouth.
“No, I don’t think she’d mind at all, would’ya, honey?”
Your dad looks expectantly at you. Your eyes dart between him and Joel.
“Uh, sorry, what?” You ask, your cheeks heating for the second time tonight.
“Helping Joel out. I know it’s been some years, but it’s just basic stuff. Plus, it’ll be in—”
“Really, Scott, you don’t have to volunteer her if she don’t want to—”
“No, no,” you interrupt. “I don’t mind at all.”
In all honesty, you didn’t think your answer through. You have no idea what you just signed up for. Though, if it’s with Joel, it can’t be too bad.
“No, really, sweetheart,” Joel interjects. “I wouldn’t wanna have a pretty ‘lil’ thing workin’ away on her summer vacation.”
You turn to look at him, flashing him your sweetest eyes. He called you pretty—you feel like you might explode. “I really don’t mind.”
He waits for a moment before he clears his throat and turns back to your dad. “Alright then,” he says before taking a sip of his drink. “We leave for Hawaii next Tuesday.”
You just about choke on your dinner. Your dad laughs.
“Told you, Joel, she doesn’t listen to a damn thing we say.”
*****
Hawaii? For two weeks? With Joel? What do you even pack?
You stare at your suitcase, waiting for your closet to help you out and throw something in there. Should you bring sundresses or work clothes? Both, right? Probably both. Maybe more work clothes. You said you’d be helping, after all. But with what?
God, you should have just paid attention to that damn conversation.
It’s late Monday night, and you haven’t been able to pick up on enough over-the-phone conversation to get the gist of it. You need to stop being such a wuss and just ask. But that would mean calling Joel. Do you really want to call Joel?
Well, yes, of course you do. But do you really want to sound awkward around Joel? No, no you don’t. And you know that’s exactly what would be happening over the phone with a man you’ve never talked over the phone with.
You groan, flopping yourself onto your bed to stare at your ceiling and overthink. You don’t want to overpack, because you don’t want Joel to see that you overpacked. But you also don’t want to underpack, because you don’t want Joel to see that you underpacked, either. This really shouldn’t be that hard. You’re about to get back up, say screw it, and throw a mixture in there, when you hear a knock on your door.
“Come in,” you call, unmoving.
“Hey, honey,” your dad says as he creeps in. “Just got off the phone with Joel.”
You sit up at this. “Yeah?”
“Yeah, he figured you might want some advice on what to pack.”
Oh thank God.
“Said he’s gonna be puttin’ you to work, but to bring some pretty clothes if you want. There’s a pool at the place you’ll be workin’ at, and a beach nearby.”
You nod along, thanking all that is holy that Joel had the idea to give you some input.
Your dad eyes your empty suitcase and raises a brow in your direction.
“He’ll be here around 4:00am, so be ready by then.” He looks back at you. “I love you, sweetheart, I’ll see you when you get back.”
He gives you a hug and closes your door.
You take Joel’s advice and pack mostly for work—with a few pretty things just in case.
*****
As expected, Joel’s truck is in your driveway at 4:00am on the dot. You’re in the passenger seat and headed for the airport by 4:03.
The ride is less tense than you thought it would be, mostly because the two of you are so tired. You’re practically in a coma against the window, the dull classic country music playing quietly from the old truck’s speakers lulling you to sleep. Joel is in about the same mindset, the lazy drumming of his fingers against the wheel the only thing convincing you he’s still awake.
Buildings pass in a dark blur, everything mushed together into one big half-dream. Joel’s scent fills the cab, sealing the state you’re in. You glance at the clock: 4:48. You blink, and it’s 5:20, the truck is stopped at the airport, and Joel is gently nudging you awake. You squint at him, the cab light rudely intruding, and you can just barely make out the faint smile on his lips. You have a strong urge to lean forward and kiss him, but thankfully you’re conscious enough to not make a complete fool of yourself right now.
“C’mon, darlin’, we got a plane to catch.”
You nod, trying to get your bearings. Joel slides out of his side of the truck, and you follow out of yours, getting a good stretch in before leaning back into the cab and retrieving your suitcase from the narrow backseat. When you make your way around the truck to Joel, he gently grabs it from your hand.
You look at him, mouth open and ready to argue, but he gives you a look that makes you shut it just as quick. Your stomach flutters at the gesture, and you kind of want to slap him for it. Or maybe yourself. Either way, you keep close to him until you’re entering through the sliding doors out front.
It only takes about an hour to get through TSA and in line to board the plane, but you’re wide awake by then. And hungry.
“Hey Joel,” you whisper. He hums at you but doesn’t look down.
“I’m hungry.”
Now he looks at you. “I don’t think we got time to grab anything now, darlin’, but we should have a layover at LAX in about three hours. Think you can hold tight ‘till then?”
You nod, trying not to overthink the conversation. It was literally a few words exchanged between the two of you, but it might be the first time you’ve conversed alone outside of your dad’s house. It felt domestic to you in a way that makes you feel like an idiot. It was one conversation.
Of course, you have to ruin the moment by humming “Party in the USA”. I mean, it’s Joel’s fault. He was the one to mention LAX.
He laughs and nudges you. “Quit that,” he commands, though you can tell he thinks it’s funny. You giggle but indulge him.
“Fine,” you draw out. “Somebody hates fun.”
He scoffs another laugh, but says nothing.
Finally, the two of you are next to board. You stop around the middle of the plane, and Joel hoists your bags into the compartment above your seats. Then, he moves aside to let you in first.
“By the window, darlin’,” he says.
You smile with excitement and settle in, Joel sitting next to you a second later.
“Your dad said somethin’ about it bein’ your first time flyin’, so I figured you might want a window seat,” he explains.
Your heart warms at this. Why does he have to be so thoughtful?
“Thank you, Joel,” you say genuinely, flashing him a smile. It may be the lighting, but you swear you see his cheeks pink up just a little before he nods and faces forward.
The flight goes by relatively quickly. Joel does some sort of paperwork on the little desk in front of him, and you pop your earbuds in and listen to a downloaded playlist while you read. The light romance you chose was cute, but it failed to distract you completely from the hunk of man beside you.
You’re not sure how many times you caught yourself staring at the flex of his wrist as he wrote whatever down. It was maybe once or twice that your eyes found their way up to his bicep, possibly a few times that they landed on his lower lip, his teeth bitten into it in concentration. You definitely got heated more times than you would’ve liked. And as your book started heating as well, you had to put it down. You really hope it’s not just you that feels this new tension.
For the last twenty minutes or so, you’ve been looking out the window, content to listen to your music and watch the land go by. For the last five, you’ve felt Joel’s eyes on you. You refuse to look back at him, though, just in case it’s your imagination.
But you swear you can feel the weight of his stare. You fidget, trying to ignore the feeling as you stare out the window and at the clouds. Then you hear a sharp sound from the speakers
through your earbuds.
You take them off and look back at Joel as the pilot informs you that you should be landing in about ten minutes.
He was staring at you, and he didn’t look away. You don’t look away now, either. You don’t say anything.
“Thank you for comin’ with me, darlin’.”
You’re taken aback. Of course you would go with him.
“It’s no problem, Joel,” you say. He gives you a short smile. “I mean, really,” you joke. “You’re the one taking me on a free vacation.”
He smiles fully this time and rolls his eyes. He tends to do that a lot with you. It makes you smile too.
The speaker dings again:
“Should be some light turbulence, but we’ll be on the ground soon, folks.”
Joel looks away after the announcement, gathering his work to put back into his bag. You shake yourself off and choose not to acknowledge whatever the hell that was.
******
You knew LAX would be busy, but. Holy shit. This place is insane.
You keep close to Joel as he navigates the two of you through the crowds and to your next gate. He keeps slightly in front of you, and you keep getting the urge to grab his hand to keep up, but you don’t. You don’t think you’ve ever seen this many people in one place—and you thought the Austin airport had been overwhelming.
There are a million shops and restaurants and gates as you make your way down the massive hallways, up and down the escalators, and through trains. It takes an hour and fifteen before you can even see the sign for your gate. Your legs hurt from walking, and your head hurts from all the noise.
You keep an eye on some of the closer restaurants you pass so that you can backtrack to them and grab a bagel or something before you have to get on your plane. You catch a glimpse of a Burger King when you’re suddenly slammed into.
You gasp as you’re sent flying onto your ass by a man who couldn’t be bothered to glance your way to see if you’re alright. Joel whips around and sets the bags down, quickly helping you up.
“Shit, are you alright, darlin’?” he asks, a deep concern in his eyes. Your cheeks are burning with embarrassment even though it wasn’t your fault.
“Yeah, I’m okay.”
Joel looks you up and down to make sure as you stand on your own two feet. He turns around, trying to scope out the man who bumped into you, and turns back when he finds that he’s long gone.
“I’m sorry, honey,” he finally says. “People don’t give a rat’s ass here.”
You nod, smiling at his choice of words. “I’m alright, Joel.”
He sighs and picks his bag back up, slinging the large weight over his shoulder, and then picks your suitcase up in one hand. WIth the other, he grabs onto yours. His hand is rough but warm and comforting.
“Just stay close ‘till we get to the gate.”
Practically glowing, you hold onto him and let him lead the way. It only takes a few more minutes before he’s telling you to sit down at the waiting area.
“I’m gonna grab you somethin’ to eat, ‘nd I’ll be right back.”
You decide to read while he’s on his errand, picking your book back up to a particularly smutty part. You’re not going to pretend like you aren’t picturing the characters as you and Joel as he eats her out on a countertop. You bite your lip, consuming each word with fervor.
You’re just finishing the chapter when Joel strolls up with two breakfast sandwiches, a coffee, and an orange juice. He hands you a sandwich and the latter drink, and takes the seat next to you with a groan.
“Probably have at least thirty minutes,” he grumbles.
You nod as you thank him and unwrap your sandwich. It’s silent for a few minutes, before you can’t bear it and break the peace.
“What all are we going to be doing?”
Joel looks at you, almost flustered. He must have misheard you. “Huh?”
“Like when we get there, what are we going to be working on?”
“Oh, uh,” he clears his throat and takes a sip of his coffee. “Mostly flooring ‘nd some drywall, but there should be somethin’ to do in the kitchen if I’m hearin’ right.”
You nod and take a bite of your sandwich. Joel continues.
“Should have a few days to relax, though, if we get everythin’ done in time.”
Your stomach flips at the thought. A few days to relax with Joel.
“Sounds easy enough,” you say.
Joel nods again. “Atta girl.”
“Flight 332 is ready to begin boarding.”
You and Joel take the last bites of your sandwich in silence and stand up to get in line once again. This flight is going to be longer, about six hours.
Joel throws your trash away and comes back to grab your bags. Same as last time, you have a seat by the window. Not like it matters much in the long run, because just after Joel takes his seat and the plane takes off, your head falls onto his shoulder, and you promptly fall asleep.

Crimson Sanctuary
WARNINGS!!!! DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, BLOOD, ABUSE MENTIONED~!!!! (READ AT YOUR OWN RISK)
Alastor x female reader
Summary: After getting in a huge fight with your drunk boyfriend, leaving you bruised and broke from head to toe you go to the one person you felt safe with, Alastor
WARNINGS!!!! DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, BLOOD, ABUSE MENTIONED~!!!! (READ AT YOUR OWN RISK)
A/N- I've been wanting to write something like this for a while now, I love the song "wait in the truck" by HARDY so this kind of inspired this piece, enjoy!
song inspiration kind of:
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
The cool, dimly lit hallway of the Hazbin Hotel felt like a sanctuary compared to where you'd just been. Your legs shook as you leaned heavily against the wall, each one of your steps sending a wave of pain through your body. Bruises covered your body, aching so much that it reminded you of the fight you’d had with your boyfriend. You couldn’t take it anymore—not after tonight. He had come home from the bar drunk, and the smallest thing had set him off. That was it. You’d had enough, but you didn’t know where else to go.
Your breath came in ragged bursts as you pushed yourself deeper into the hotel, hoping only the person you came to see would notice you. You didn’t even want him to see you like this, but that was the reality now. Desperation drove you forward, pushing you toward the one person you truly trusted—Alastor.
Then, you heard it—his distant humming, that eerie, lilting melody he often whistled when he thought no one was listening. It was a strange comfort. You managed a few more steps before your legs gave out under you, collapsing onto the floor in a heap. Pain flared through your bruised body as you hit the ground, a soft groan escaping your lips. You just laid there, panting and trembling, too weak to get up. You resigned yourself to this moment—there was nothing more you could do.
The door to Alastor’s room creaked open. He was on his way out, probably for one of his usual outings. In that moment, you heard his humming stop. There was a brief pause before he spoke.
“Dear?” His voice was surprisingly soft. You could’ve sworn the radio filter usually gracing his voice had vanished for a moment. That's when his polished pointe shoes came into view and he was kneeling at your side, his gloved claws reaching out to steady you. "Darling," he said in a low, quieter tone, “what has happened?” His clawed hand hesitantly reached out, gently brushing against you to assure you that he meant no harm.
You tried to answer—you wanted to—but your throat was too tight. He studied you closely, his eyes flicking over your injuries. And just like that, he knew.
“It’s him, isn’t it?” Alastor's voice was now laced with venom, though his touch remained impossibly gentle. You didn’t have to answer; he’d seen this before, far too many times. He had warned you, but this wasn’t about being right. It was about you, broken and desperate, and with nowhere else to turn.
“I didn’t know where else to go,” you whispered, your voice cracking. “I-I’m sorry.”
“Nonsense, my dear,” he said, his voice still soft as he pulled back just enough to look you in the eyes. Your eyes, hooded and exhausted, met his. They were heavy with fatigue and pain, filled with the weight of everything you’d been through. His gaze burned with fury, but none of it was directed at you.
“You did the right thing coming here,” he continued. “You are always welcome here, and I assure you, you will not be going back to him.”
The threat behind his words lingered, palpable and real. He would make sure of that. The thought of what Alastor might do to your ex made your stomach churn, but you were too exhausted, too broken to care. Carefully, Alastor helped you to your feet, his hand never leaving your waist as he guided you toward his room.
“Come now, let’s get you cleaned up, shall we? You’ll be safe here.”
He led you into his room, the warmth and the flickering glow of the fireplace instantly wrapping you in a sense of comfort. Without another word, no hum, he guided you toward a large, cushioned armchair in front of the fire. Alastor's touch was gentle but firm as he helped you sit down slowly, his hands lingering for a moment longer to ensure you were steady.
As you sank into the armchair, the soft fabric cradling your aching body, Alastor's tall and long frame knelt before you, his sharp eyes studying your face and your face only. Your exhaustion, your pain, were evident, and you blinked tiredly at him, unable to summon a reply. With a sigh, he gently brushed a strand of hair away from your face. Then, with a small flick of his wrist, a warm glow began to radiate from his gloved hands. His magic was subtle at first; the energy sent a soothing warmth through your body, and you tensed for a moment. Slowly, you felt the pain and bruises ease. The ache in your muscles dulled as his power worked its way through you, healing the worst of your injuries. You watched in quiet awe as the bruises on your arms and legs faded, the tension in your body releasing as the pain subsided, though you watched with tired, exhausted eyes.
"There," he said. "That should help."
"Thank you," you whispered, your voice barely audible.
Alastor smiled—a small, genuine smile. "You're safe now, my dear. And don't you worry about him, I'll handle it."
Alastor didn’t move from his place by your side, his presence a silent reassurance that you weren’t alone anymore.
For the first time in what felt like forever, you felt safe. Safe with him, in his arms, knowing that no harm would come to you as long as he was near. You knew in that moment your boyfriend was probably going to see the light, but that didn't matter you were just grateful for Alastor's presence.

Have i said this already
I cant remember 💃
What if nightmares spouse was still alive, or like...became alive AGAIN when nightmare has killer
Like, killer can see nightmare being affectionate with his spouse and vice versa
Basicallg what im saying is what if killer used that as an example of how to show affection and did it with color
Imagining killer just cooking a human heart for color and giving it to him, or like... purring loudly whenever color is near because he could always faintly hear nightmare purring when his spouse is near
And gifting the limbs of someone who bothered color, because nightmares spouse would frequently kill and make little artworks of the bones of someone who bothered nightmare
Hell, maybe even try to make a little artwork too. Or like carve something out of the bone that he likes, like a lil cat
Bone cat
That idea is both hilarious, terrifying, and cute. I mean, he already keeps entire jars of souls for study and presumably scoops up blood and monster dust also for study.
Realizing that some of what he’s already doing can be used as affection would be a prime light bulb moment lmao.
Like, he spends hours of his days making color the perfect jar—carefully placing the souls, blood and dust of Color’s enemies (or at least who killer thinks are color’s enemies) into a jar and decorating it all pretty with glitter and ribbons and of course placing little upside down heart stickers on the jar (don’t ask him why it was instinct) and its beautiful and killer is sure color would love it because the boss and the boss’ lover love it.
And like the jar is probably heart shaped and looks something like this
Tumblr media
So from Color’s perspective, Killer walking up to him with the jar is the equivalent of something like this
Tumblr media
Until Color actually gets a good look at it and then just stares, and killers like “do you like it? 🙂” and he’s all squeezing his hands together in front of his chest like this
{art by rahafwabas, edited by me.}
Tumblr media
And then Color has to ask why he gave him this—souls and hearts and blood and dust specifically—and then killer explains about nightmare and then color’s like..”yeah, okay. That makes sense. Of course they’d do that.”
And then Color has to explain that Nightmare and his lover are not exactly the picture of a typical relationship nor what’s considered appropriate to give others, and if killer gave this to anyone else they’d probably be creeped out by it. (Which killer of course keeps in mind, because he loves creeping people out lmao.)
But then Killer’s like..
Tumblr media
“..so do you not want it?”
Now here im not sure how exactly color would react—his souls would probably have a lot to say on this. The fact that Killer hurt and killed people for this gift, that Color has to set an example and maintain his integrity— but also how killer very obviously put a lot of thought and hard work into this gift for them and it’d be rude to throw it away.
And yet another part of color is mindful of the fact that this could very well be another of killer’s little morality and boundary tests—trying to test what color is going to do, chose kindness and not hurting killers “feelings” or maintaining his integrity.
And i think maybe a good compromise would be color giving the jar back with a kind, patient smile, and requesting that he hold the jar for him—keep it safe for him. And instead, he’d like to show him something he likes to make as gifts. (And therefore likes to receive as gifts.) and then maybe color makes use of the jar stuff to make like, some of those sand container jewelry like these:
Tumblr media
Or perhaps Color further compromises by making one of those blood vial necklaces, appeals to killers idea of a gift with something more consenting and harm free because its vials of killer and colors blood freely given.
Tumblr media
Something like this, but imagine Killer’s blood is something more thick and dark like Determination, while Color’s blood is like a darker version of his flames; changing colors and glowing softly in the jar.

The morning light filters softly through the curtains, casting a warm glow over the room as you slowly stir awake. You feel the familiar weight of Tyler’s arm draped over you, his chest rising and falling with the steady rhythm of his breathing. For a moment, you don’t move, just letting yourself savor the quiet intimacy of the morning.
Tyler is still asleep, his face relaxed, lips slightly parted. You take in the sight of him, his messy hair, the peaceful look on his face, and your heart swells. It's hard to believe that just days ago, you thought you might have lost this—lost him forever. But now, here you are, waking up in his house, wrapped in the warmth of his arms, and it’s better than you could have ever asked for.
You shift slightly, and Tyler stirs, his grip tightening around you for a moment as if he’s afraid you’ll slip away. Slowly, his eyes flutter open, and he blinks a few times before focusing on you. A lazy, content smile spreads across his face as he pulls you closer, burying his face in the crook of your neck.
“Morning,” he mumbles, his voice still thick with sleep.
“Morning,” you whisper back, your fingers brushing lightly through his hair as you press a soft kiss to his forehead.
Tyler shifts, propping himself up on one elbow as he looks down at you. His eyes scan your face, and you can see the emotion there, the way he’s taking in this moment like it’s something precious. “I really thought I’d lost my chance with you. Part of me was afraid I’d wake up and you’d be gone,” he admits softly, his voice low, almost as if he’s afraid saying it out loud might break the spell.
You reach up, brushing your fingers against his cheek. “You didn’t lose me,” you whisper, your voice gentle but firm. “I’m right here.”
He leans down, pressing a slow, lingering kiss to your lips, as if grounding himself in the reality of you being in his arms. When he pulls back, there’s a softness in his eyes that makes your heart skip a beat.
The two of you lie there for a while longer, wrapped up in each other, neither of you in any hurry to break the peaceful bubble you’ve created. Tyler’s fingers trace lazy patterns on your back, and you feel the warmth of his body against yours, perfectly content to stay like this forever.
Eventually, though, Tyler shifts again, glancing at the clock on his bedside table. “We should probably get up,” he murmurs, though his tone is hesitant, like he doesn’t really want to.
You scrunch your face into a playful pout, rolling over slightly so you can look up at him. “Do we have to?” you ask, your voice teasing as you stretch out under the covers, making a dramatic show of how comfortable you are.
Tyler chuckles, his hand sliding down to rest on your waist as he shakes his head. “You’re not making this any easier,” he says, though there’s a warmth in his voice that tells you he’s more than happy to stay right here.
You pout a little more dramatically, your bottom lip sticking out as you give him your best pleading eyes. “Come on, just a little longer?”
He smirks, leaning down to press a soft kiss to your lips, his hand resting on your hip. “You’re cute when you pout,” he murmurs against your lips, his voice filled with amusement.
You let out a little huff, though the smile tugging at your lips betrays you.
Then, an idea crosses your mind, and a mischievous glint sparks in your eyes. You shift beneath him, your fingers trailing up his chest, and you lean up, pressing a lingering kiss to the side of his neck.
Tyler’s breath catches slightly, but he chuckles, shaking his head. “What are you doing?” he asks, though there’s a playful tone to his voice.
You smirk, your lips brushing against his skin as you trail another kiss down the side of his neck, sucking gently as you hear him let out a low hum. “Just trying to convince you to stay,” you murmur, your voice soft and teasing.
Tyler shifts slightly, his hand moving to your thigh, giving it a gentle squeeze. “Oh, is that what you’re doing?” he asks, his voice lower now, though still filled with that familiar teasing warmth.
You giggle softly, pressing another kiss to his neck, then another, before moving lower. You can feel him relax into your touch, his grip on your waist tightening as he leans back slightly, letting you work your magic.
“Okay, okay,” he laughs softly, his voice a little rougher now, his hand moving up your thigh. “You’re gonna make it very hard for me to get out of this bed, you know that?”
You look up at him, your lips hovering just over his skin, a playful smile on your face. “That’s the plan,” you whisper, before trailing your lips back down his neck.
Tyler groans softly, his head tilting back slightly as he closes his eyes, clearly enjoying the attention. “You’re impossible,” he mutters, though there’s no real conviction behind his words.
You grin, pressing one last kiss to his collarbone before pulling back slightly, your fingers brushing through his messy hair. “So... does that mean you’re staying?”
Tyler opens his eyes, looking down at you with a grin that tells you he’s clearly enjoying this little game. “I guess I don’t have much of a choice now, do I?”
You laugh softly, leaning up to kiss him again, this time slower and more intimate. His hand moves to cup your cheek, pulling you closer as he deepens the kiss, and you can feel the warmth radiating from him as his lips move against yours.
When he pulls back, his forehead rests against yours, both of you catching your breath. “You’re trouble,” he murmurs, though the smile on his face says he wouldn’t have it any other way.
You grin up at him, your fingers brushing lightly over his chest. “Good trouble, though, right?”
Tyler laughs, nodding as he presses a kiss to your forehead. “The best kind.”
As the two of you finally pull yourselves out of bed, the chilly morning air makes you shiver slightly. Tyler notices instantly, catching the way you wrap your arms around yourself. Without a word, he steps over to his closet and pulls out one of his flannels, a well-worn favorite that’s soft from years of use. He walks back toward you, a small smile tugging at his lips as he holds it out.
“Here,” he says softly, his voice still husky from the early morning. “This’ll keep you warm.”
You glance down at the flannel in his hands and then back up to him, a warm feeling spreading through your chest. “Thanks,” you reply, taking it from him and slipping it on. It’s oversized on you, the sleeves falling past your hands, but it’s cozy, and it smells like him—the faint smell of his cedarwood cologne.
Tyler’s eyes linger on you for a moment, and you can tell by the way he’s looking at you that seeing you in his clothes does something to him. His gaze softens, and he steps closer, tucking a stray lock of hair behind your ear.
“Looks good on you,” he murmurs.
You smile up at him, feeling a bit lighter in that moment. He leans down and kisses the top of your head, his lips warm against your skin.
Tyler heads back to his dresser, pulling out clothes and tossing them onto the bed. You watch as he begins to pack his bag for the week ahead, each motion methodical and focused. You lean against the doorframe, sipping the coffee he’d made earlier, just content to watch him. It’s a quiet, intimate moment—one of those times that feels like you’ve been together for years, not just a short while.
“You all set for the week?” you ask, breaking the comfortable silence.
“Almost,” Tyler replies, folding up a few shirts and shoving them into the duffel. “You?”
You nod. “Not quite. I have everything washed, just need to pack it.”
Tyler pauses, glancing at you over his shoulder. “You sure you’re ready for another week out there?” His tone is light, but you can hear the underlying concern. He’s protective, always thinking ahead.
You step closer, setting your coffee down on the dresser. “I’m good. And I’ll be better knowing we’re heading out together.”
He turns toward you, his hands stilling as he gazes down at you. “Yeah,” he says softly, pulling you into his arms. “Together.”
After gathering up Tyler’s things, the two of you head back over to your place so you can pack your bag for the week ahead.
The drive is easy, filled with comfortable silence and the occasional brush of Tyler’s hand against yours as he navigates the familiar roads. You feel content, knowing the week ahead won’t be as daunting with him by your side.
Once at your apartment, you quickly slip into your pre chase routine, gathering clothes, gear, and everything else you might need. Tyler leans against the doorframe of your bedroom, watching as you toss a few last-minute items into your bag.
Just as you’re about to zip it shut, Tyler’s phone buzzes in his pocket. He pulls it out and glances at the screen, his brows raising slightly. “It’s the team,” he says, meeting your eyes before answering the call. You can hear Boone’s voice on the other end, though the words are muffled.
“Yeah, what’s the plan for today?” Boone’s voice comes through a little clearer now, as Tyler puts the phone on speaker so you can hear the conversation as well.
Tyler grins slightly, his eyes flicking toward you as he speaks. “We’ll meet at my place in a few hours. Get everything ready and we’ll go over the plan once  we’re all together. There’s some systems rolling in near the Kansas/Oklahoma border that look promising.”
There’s a brief pause on the other end, and you catch the hint of hesitation in Boone’s tone when he asks, “Ty…have you heard from her? None of us have talked to her. The team’s wondering if she’s-”
Your grin spreads, and you glance over at Tyler. He catches the look on your face, a smirk tugging at the corners of his lips.
Without missing a beat, he replies, “Yeah, I’ve heard from her.”
Boone seems to pause again, as if trying to read between the lines. “Alright then… I guess we’ll get the details later.”
Tyler just chuckles softly and shakes his head, his eyes never leaving yours as he replies, “Yeah, we’ll talk when you all get there.”
When he ends the call, he slips the phone back into his pocket and raises an eyebrow at you, his smirk widening. “You think he caught on?”
You laugh, zipping your bag shut. “Maybe, but they’ll get their answers soon enough.”
He steps closer, wrapping an arm around your waist and pulling you against him. “Good,” he murmurs, pressing a kiss to the side of your head. “Because I’m not about to hide this from anyone.”
You smile, resting your head against his chest for a moment, enjoying the warmth of him. “Neither am I.”
The two of you lock up your place and then head back to his place for a quick lunch of sandwiches. After finishing lunch, you and Tyler start cleaning up, the sound of laughter and conversation in the distance signaling the arrival of the team. As you finish wiping down the last plate, Tyler leans against the counter, catching your eye.
“They’re here,” he says softly, his voice tinged with a calm that you wished you could match.
You offer him a small smile, trying to brush off the nerves fluttering in your chest. “I’ll finish up here. You go get them.”
He hesitates for a moment, his eyes scanning your face as if he can sense the apprehension bubbling just under the surface. But he doesn’t press, only nods before pressing a quick kiss to your temple. “Alright. I’ll be right outside.”
As soon as he steps out, you hear the muffled sound of the team greeting him. The warmth in their voices is unmistakable, but as their laughter drifts closer to the house, a nervous knot forms in your stomach. What if they aren’t okay with you and Tyler dating? What if this changes the dynamic? You take a steadying breath, hoping your nerves will ease, but it’s hard to shake the worry.
A few minutes later, the sound of footsteps approaching the door pulls you from your thoughts. The front door swings open, and you freeze for a moment, clutching the dish towel a little tighter in your hands.
But then Lily walks in, her eyes lighting up the moment she sees you. “There she is!” Without hesitation, she strides across the room and pulls you into a warm hug, squeezing you tight. “I’ve missed you!”
You laugh, your nerves melting a little as you hug her back. “I missed you too.”
Dexter and Dani follow right behind her, both grinning as they offer their own greetings. Dexter nudges you playfully on the arm. “Good to see you again. It’s been way too long.”
Dani winks at you, her grin widening. “Glad to have you back.”
Just as you start to feel fully at ease, Boone steps forward, towering over you with a wide grin before pulling you into a bear hug that nearly knocks the wind out of you. “About time you showed up again!”
You laugh, your cheeks flushing as he finally lets you go. But Boone doesn’t miss a beat. His eyes scan you for a second before they land on the flannel you’re wearing—Tyler’s flannel.
He raises an eyebrow, his grin turning mischievous as he points to the shirt you’re wearing. “Well, well… what’s this?”
Lily and Dani exchange knowing looks, and Dexter’s smirk only grows as Boone points to the obvious. “Tyler’s flannel, huh?”
You glance at Tyler, who had made his way over to the group, standing a few feet away with a small smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. Your eyes meet his, and for a brief second, the world seems to narrow down to just the two of you. You’re not nervous anymore, just ready.
Tyler walks over, slipping his arm around your waist as he turns to face the team. “Alright, alright,” he says, his voice light but steady. “Yes, she’s coming back to the team. And we’ve decided to… give the dating thing a go.”
For a moment, there’s a beat of silence. Then Lily breaks it with an excited squeal. “Finally!”
Boone lets out a loud laugh, clapping Tyler on the back. “Took you long enough, man. We’ve all been waiting for this.”
Dexter crosses his arms, shaking his head in amusement. “I had a bet going that it wouldn’t happen until next month.”
Dani winks again, nudging you with her elbow. “Guess it’s official now. Took you long enough, though, T.”
Tyler chuckles, pulling you a little closer to his side. “Yeah, yeah. Took my time, but we’re here now.”
As the teasing continues, you feel a wave of relief wash over you. The team is thrilled, and more importantly, they’re accepting. All your worries fade as you look around at the smiles and laughter filling the room. You exchange another look with Tyler, the weight of the last 24 hours settling into something solid and comforting.
He leans down and murmurs quietly in your ear, “Told you everything would be fine.”
You smile, nudging him playfully as the teasing continues. “Okay, you were right this time.”
Tyler grins, brushing a kiss against your forehead as the team gathers around, ready for whatever comes next—together.

Red Mountain Waffle House, pt. 14
Author's Note: Angst & misunderstandings
-----------------------------------
Somehow or the other she had been drawn to the Shrine of Azura. Before falling in with that group of former slaves in Zebabi, Sadara had looked into where the shrine was, and figuring Azura would have some answers, headed over that way.
The priests sold her some glow dust, and she made the offering as the sun was going down.
"Azura," she said, "I don't ask for you to do me any favors - I just want answers. With the prophecies, and all that - was I the Nerevarine? I mean clearly I'm not fulfilling them, so did I have ANY purpose here? What was it?"
There was a pause, a slight breeze, and then a voice in her mind.
"You have served the purpose I set out for you."
"What purpose?"
"You ensured Nerevar's bones were brought to Dagoth Ur." A pause. "There have been many Nerevarines, and you were meant to be the last. So many have failed, and you remain...the cycle repeated, in my vain hope one of you would follow the prophecies. But there have been too many failures - and so I have chosen a different path."
"What path?" Sadara felt her stomach drop. You have served your purpose.
"Nerevar will surely follow my will and destroy the Tribunal; he was ever faithful in life, and I see no reason that his loyalty should fail now. I am glad of your assistance, but your part in this is done."
She turned away without saying anything more.
Fuck Azura. Fuck everyone...except maybe Jiub.
Nothing had changed. Nothing would ever change.
----------------------
Traveling about and killing cliffracers was okay for a week or so, but on using her name in Molag Mar, she'd drawn some attention. The healer had looked up, and gone, "Sadara? What're you doing here?"
"Working," she said, "Cliffracer plumes sell for a decent amount."
"You're working? Why?"
"For a living? Why does anyone work?" she shrugged.
"There are some people looking for you--"
The moment her wounds were closed she left, and bought a cloak to cover herself a bit better on the way out. Why would they be looking for her? They had the bones, the moon-and-star, the heirloom ring of Dagoth Ur's. What more could they want her for? Gilvoth had made pretty clear she wasn't wanted there. But then something else occurred to her--the Tribunal temple would probably want to see her gone still, despite her showing no inclination to fulfill the prophecies. She'd handed over Nerevar's bones, they might have linked her to the one who'd stolen the bones in the first place...b&e, theft, some sort of heresy charge, that'd put her away for a while. And that was if the ordinators didn't outright kill her.
Whatever goodwill she'd built with Vivec when she'd done that favor of getting the tattoo was surely burned away now...and Almalexia, she was another thing entirely.
She left Molag Mar, and thereon stopped using her name.
When she cleared the slavers' cave of Zebabi and freed the khajiit and argonians, they had asked her name. She'd thought for a moment, and said, "Nammu."
Finding out about Fyr's offer to pay for blood had come as a result of one of the argonians, Chalureel, who'd said the slavers had dragged him up to Fyr to give his blood. He was some rare type or the other, and seemed overwhelmed with the idea that the sum paid to the slavers would go to him now.
Sadara agreed to stay with them until they all figured out what they'd do with their newfound freedom. The presence of a Dunmer could handwave some things away, avoid some types of trouble...
The morning after she cleared the cave she asked Chalureel to go up to Tel Fyr with her.
"It's a city unto itself," he said, after giving a description of the route they'd need to take, "There's a lot of things there we could get ahold of, especially if your blood's a type they want."
Fyr was a reclusive sort, but those that worked for him obviously needed places to stay, and a tiny medical school of excellent reputation had popped up, and then there were all the services THEY needed--
The point being, there would be plenty of places to hawk what they didn't need of the slavers' things, and to buy what supplies they needed. She'd sold enough bandits' gear after coming to Morrowind to have a reasonably good discerning eye on the most common stuff. Daggers, leather armor, spell scrolls.
"Alright, so do we have enough water here? Not the salt kind," Sadara said, "How many bedrolls do we need to buy? You all deserve to sleep on more than just the ground like you've been doing."
A list was put together of the things they'd need, and while she and Chalureel were going to Tel Fyr, the rest would head to the shore to do some fishing and foraging.
"It rains fairly frequently here," Chalureel said, "So a rain barrel might be a good idea. The water in the cave...is not exactly clean, because of those slaughterfish the--slavers were keeping. We could boil it, but..."
"We can buy some bottled water at Tel Fyr and get a rain barrel, or something like it, and boil the water here if it's absolutely necessary. There's some cooking supplies here, so we've got a pot for it...we've got the list, so let's head out."
The blood donation didn't take all that long. It was mainly filling out the forms and negotiating for things other than money that took extra time.
In exchange for a reduced payment she managed to wrangle out getting a couple potions and to be taught Restore Health with the first donation of her own blood. Fireball she figured would be next - that would make the campfires a bit easier to start up. Then a frost spell, so they could have form up a crude refrigerator somewhere in the cave.
They were kept another hour and give some orange juice, and healed up just to be safe. Then they went shopping.
The rain barrel angle didn't pan out, but they got several jugs and bottles of water, as well as some dried fish, a couple kwama eggs, saltrice, and some shein. A box of rations from a surplus store. It felt like a wealth of food, what was in that box...
But the real treat came when she spent what she'd put aside for herself. It wasn't much, only twenty gold, but she got a new robe, the first bit of clothing she'd bought in ages that wasn't from a secondhand store.
And a green candle. There had been red ones. Smelling them had given a scent of cinnamon and memory of Jolene--Dagoth Ur, her mind corrected her. That look in the picture that had buoyed her for a little while, made her feel adored, what might have been the first stirrings of love, but which now--
Surely you understand it has always been Lord Nerevar that he wants?
The words reminding her that she was to stay in her place, that she was not to reach for anything better.
She put the red candle back and hurried along with Chalureel, whose own treat seemed to be four bags of cheese puffs. The remainder that they weren't saving went to a couple bottles of soda and some off-brand chocolate the others liked.
At last they headed back, and she thought that evening, on looking at what had been the slave pen and was now her room, that all things considered this was better than she'd had in a while, even if there wasn't any plumbing here.
It was a roof over her head, food in her stomach, and a safe place to sleep. That was all it used to take to keep her happy, and it would have to be enough now.
If she just kept believing it, maybe it would be true.
------------------------------------
When Jiub saw the golden-skinned mer approaching the Waffle House a week after the last sleeper, at first he wondered why an Altmer that clean was coming out here.
Then the door opened, and the new waiter dropped to his knees. "Saint Nerevar!"
"Rise," the mer, Nerevar apparently, replied, "I have--to speak to your cook."
"Of course, of course." The waiter moved in close and said, "Be on your best behavior."
"Right." Jiub shrugged, and the waiter headed off to clean the bathroom, or smoke, or something - he didn't really pay attention. Once the man was out of earshot he looked to Nerevar.
"Is Sadara not here? The Sleepers keep saying she doesn't work here any longer."
Jiub scoffed. "And their word wasn't good enough for you?"
"Where is she?"
"She doesn't live with me anymore, if that's what you mean. Do you want coffee? Eggs?"
"Where--where did she go?" Nerevar's voice was more insistent now.
"As if I'm going to tell you."
"Look--" Nerevar's tone went stern, in what Jiub supposed was his military-leader voice. "--you need to tell me where she is."
"Why should I do that?" Jiub turned, and kept one hand in his right front pocket, where he'd moved his box cutter to. "Huh? The volcano man not quite what you expected?"
"There has been a misunderstanding--"
"Misunderstanding!" Jiub laughed harshly. "Oh yes, Sadara didn't even come home afterwards, I'd say it was more than just a fucking--get out. Now."
"Who do you think you are?"
"The man who knows where she is. So I suggest you keep your hands to yourself. I fucked up your wife, I can fuck you up too."
"She's not my wife anymore, I don't--this isn't about her. I want to know where Sadara is, so I can bring her back to Red Mountain."
"What, to be mocked some more? Do you need a punching bag so you don't get bored?"
Nerevar glared in a way Jiub assumed was meant to intimidate him. It didn't work.
"That was never what was intended."
"Really, what was intended? Because whatever was said was bad enough she didn't even repeat it to me, and she tells me everything. Just said it was nothing we hadn't heard before." Jiub crossed his arms. "Why should I tell you fucking anything when you're the reason she's like this?"
"The person she talked to--did not--" Nerevar groaned, and buried his face in his hands before looking back up. "How do I convince you I don't mean her harm? I only want her to take the place that's rightfully hers now. I thought--we hadn't seen her, so we assumed she must not have been interested in being Lady Dagoth. Then one of the Sleepers let us know she DID show up, and we simply hadn't been told about it."
"Yeah, she delivered your bones," Jiub replied, "You'd think you'd be more grateful."
"I didn't KNOW! One of Voryn's brothers turned her away and--look, I just want to correct the situation. I want to make things right. Then you won't see me again."
"It's her seeing you I'm worried about. Why should I trust you, eh? Give me one good reason not to hurl your ass out like Jazz." Jiub thought for a few moments, then cracked his knuckles. "Tell you what...if you kick my ass well enough, I'll tell you where she is."
A pause.
"Are you game for it? Or are you a big golden chicken?"
-------------------------
The kagouti hunt was not going very well.
They had enough to eat, but Sadara had headed out into the blight storm since she was immune to the blight, saying it'd probably be a good idea to get some fresh meat anyway. The slaughterfish in Zebabi's water (Gish, oddly enough, seemed to think of them as children) were happy enough with scraps, but...leftovers surely weren't healthy for them
In reality she preferred not to while away her time in Zebabi. Even with the others around it was too quiet, and if things were too quiet she'd start thinking.
And if she started thinking, she'd just end up making herself miserable. No. Better to get outside and actually DO something, until she was tired enough she'd go right to sleep when she got back.
But the blight winds were thicker than usual--or at least, thicker than she was used to--and she found herself stumbling along the paths, groping along the rocky mountainside to keep a sense of which direction she was going in. She was almost afraid to pull out her phone. Suppose it blew away, in all this wind?
Sadara took another step, leaned harder when a gust of red ashy wind blew right in her face--and fell into darkness.
"FUCK!" she screamed, and thanked any gods who might be listening that she'd had the Fyr people teach her the Light spell last time she was up there.
It looked like she'd fallen into some kind of hallway...a long corridor, there were visible doors along it. She'd think it was a dwemer ruin if it wasn't for the tombish look about it, and the lack of brass accents.
She set her quiver down to mark the spot, and then headed down the hallway. The doors opened, and she saw ash pits, with offerings covered in dust. Clearly, no one had been here in ages and ages.
A ghost or two rose...but gave her only a look before meandering about the room.
Probably a really old Hlaalu tomb.
She'd been to one or two tombs and left small offerings, but had never actually seen the ghosts wandering around like people had reported. Here, though...they seemed to be everywhere here. Some of the older looking ones ignored her, while a young one or two followed her for a while. Most vanished when she looked at them directly.
Then she came to a larger room--and the ash pit here was much, much larger than any of the others she'd seen.
As with some of the others, a ghost rose from the ashes.
This one, rather than looking at her and then quickly away, fixed her with a keen gaze that didn't once break away.
"Who are you?"
"My name's Sadara," she said, "I'm sorry, I fell into the tomb from the outside. I don't mean any disrespect. ...though I assume you must all know that already, since no one's attacked me."
"You must have married into the house," the ghostly woman said. "There is no other explanation."
"This isn't a house Hlaalu tomb?"
A snort.
"Oblivion, no. This is a House Dagoth tomb."
Sadara immediately started to back out of the room. "Well, I guess...I guess I'm technically one of you, but the marriage...isn't going to last."
"Isn't going to last? When the one you married has been rude enough not to bring you here to introduce you to the family..."
"It wasn't the one I married, but one of his--brothers that told me." Sadara shrugged. "I married him drunk, his brother said it was a mistake, and with Nerevar there again--look, I'll get out of your hair."
"No, no, stay. Stay, tell me what happened. The man you married, was it one of Voryn's brothers?"
"It was Voryn himself, and one of his brothers to--why am I telling you? It's probably getting annulled soon, I won't be part of the House for much longer."
"You shouldn't let yourself be shoved out so easily. Any Lady Dagoth should be strong enough to form herself a place. Voryn's brothers have ever been overprotective of the family honor and nobility--they tried to push off Nerevar, and now they are trying to push off you. With the same tricks, I imagine. But just like Nerevar, you--"
Sadara turned and bolted out the door, back down the hallway, ignoring every attempt by the ghosts she passed to call her back.
Just like Nerevar.
Just like Nerevar.
All she wanted was to escape that name, to escape his shadow, but every attempt seemed to deepen the trap she was in.
How long do I have to live in his shadow?
-----------------------------
The blight storm hadn't let up in the least by the time she returned to the cave--and with her arm raised to protect her eyes she didn't nothing the ordinator standing just inside the cave. He stood straight and pointed his spear at her when she approached.
"Who are you?"
"S--Nammu, I live here!" Sadara corrected herself, "Don't tell me it's been seized!"
"Not seized. ...temporarily commandeered," the ordinator said, "Go inside...but there are more of us in there, and if you step out of line you'll be dealt with."
Great, she thought, just great. As if I needed more problems right now.
She went on inside, noting there weren't that many extra ordinators inside, or rather, not as many as she expected. Nuralg was the first to see her, and shook her head on being told the hunt hadn't gone well.
"This one could have told you it was a bad idea to hunt in blight winds. The only thing one can catch out there right now is a blight disease. Dinner will be ready in a bit...but there is someone occupying your room. You'll have to have a chat with her."
The her in question was entirely a surprise. No sooner did she open the little door (which was flanked by two more ordinators) than she laid eyes on--
"Queen Barenziah?"
"Sadara!"
Both were equally surprised to see one another. Sadara walked forward, trying to think of how to not explain the situation to her.
"What are you doing out here?" was the queen's first question.
"The job didn't pan out. What're you--this doesn't seem the kind of place you'd frequent." Sadara gave a faint smile.
"I was making a trip to Tel Fyr for an injection...I've got something called rheumatoid arthritis, and I would far rather have the doctors do it than trust the job to a maid or to my shaking hands. The blight storm grew stronger while we were trying to sail by, and...well, we took shelter here, not knowing anyone had already made it a home."
"It's not too bad here, provided you fluff your pillow up well enough. And have a good bedroll. Maybe it's a bit too quiet, that's my only complaint."
"Besides not having running water?" Barenziah laughed slightly. "It reminds me of the old days, but...I prefer not to go back unless necessary."
There was a pause, and for that silence Sadara thought that no more would be said.
But of course, she would later think, she could not be so lucky.
"Hunting cliffracers?" she asked, "I expected you could find another job waiting tables up in the north, with your experience."
"I wanted to get away from the region," Sadara replied quietly. She shrugged a moment later. "Lot of drama went on...Almalexia turned up, and there was...a time I got very drunk, and...it's all behind me now."
Barenziah fixed her with a Look.
"What?" she asked, "I think I actually prefer living here over that shithole I was living in. It's by the ocean, it rains more often, and..."
No response.
"I do pay attention to the online discourses, you know," the queen mother started again, "And I can put two and two together."
"I don't want to talk about it," Sadara replied quickly. "Please, let's just talk about something else."
Literally anything else. She simply wanted to keep her mind off the Situation. Eventually that ache would peter out and everything would be as it was before. Everything went down the drain anyway, eventually this would too.
"Answer a few questions, and then I will speak no more of it. I already know about this infamous marriage of yours, and I simply want to know--"
"Do I have a choice?" Sadara slumped slightly.
A few questions and then this'd be over. Barenziah would leave, and she'd get on making the best of this place.
"Did you get thrown out?"
"Not out of my apartment, no, I just didn't go back. There wasn't much to go back for."
"And Dagoth Ur?"
"I haven't seen him since the night the wedding happened. When I visited the--that palace he lives in, all I saw was his brother. If I hadn't left he'd have put me out."
"You poor thing," Barenziah's tone was sympathetic, "This is what I was trying to warn you about. These men will use you and cast you aside the moment you are no longer useful to them."
"I...I brought him Nerevar's bones. Thought we'd have to talk anyway. But...I guess he didn't want to talk..."
You have served the purpose I set out for you.
She gulped slightly. "Anyway...I suppose you'll be staying overnight. We can feed the lot of you, but it'll be a bit tight...not what you're used to, I'm sure."
"We've got some stores of our own to add, if you're inclined to make a stew. Or if you're not, I like my entourage to be well prepared." There was a pause. "I apologize for pressing, but...if you'd like the marriage annulled, I'm sure--"
"No, let him live with the stain." The venom in her tone surprised even Sadara, and she shook her head. "The only revenge I can have right now is that my name is still linked with House Dagoth. He has Nerevar now, and he'll want to marry him soon, which'll mean he'll want my signature on the divorce papers."
She'd seen how easy it could be to get a divorce in Morrowind. Thirty days apart--and they were fast closing in on that number--no matter how short a time it had been since the wedding--with papers signed, and that would be that.
It could be as if it had never been.
"Maybe I can get a bribe out of it. They want to call me a gold-digger, maybe I should just quit trying, and...and give them what they're--"
She took in a sharp breath.
Barenziah's open arms was all it took.
Sadara sank into them, sobbing, and wasn't aware of very much else for a long while afterward.
Just this time. I will let myself be sad just this time. But no one else will get to see it. No one else.

You stand in the doorway to the boy’s dormitory, leaning against the frame as you watch Harry rummage through his trunk. The room is mostly empty, with only a few belongings left scattered about from students still ready to pack.
“Are you all set to go?” you ask, crossing your arms with a playful smirk, catching his attention.
Harry straightens up, turning to face you with that familiar messy hair of his falling over his glasses. “Almost,” he replies, his voice warm but a bit distracted as he shoves a book into his trunk. “Just making sure I didn’t forget anything.”
You raise an eyebrow, stepping into the room a bit more. “You’re not leaving behind any homework, are you? You did hand in that Potions assignment, right?” Your tone is teasing, but there’s a genuine question behind it. You’ve known Harry long enough to recognise that sometimes he forgets things when he’s too busy thinking about other stuff.
He grins, leaning casually against the trunk now. “Yes, Mum,” he teases back, the corner of his mouth quirking up as he crosses his arms in response. “Everything’s done. Handed in my Potions essay two days ago. Thought you’d be proud of me.”
You laugh softly, rolling your eyes but feeling a warmth in your chest as he steps closer. “I am proud. I’d hate for Snape to ruin your holiday with some snarky comment about missing work.”
Harry’s grin widens, his eyes sparkling as he takes another step toward you. “Don’t worry. I wouldn’t let anything ruin our holiday. Especially not Snape.”
You tilt your head at him, smiling, and there’s a moment of quiet tension between you. It’s the kind that has become increasingly familiar lately, and you can feel your heart speeding up just a little. His eyes linger on yours for a second longer than usual, before he shakes his head with a laugh.
“Anyway,” he says, breaking the moment, “we should head down for dinner before Ron eats everything.” He gives you a playful nudge as he moves past you toward the door.
You chuckle, following him out of the room. “Knowing Ron, we’re probably already too late.”

You and Harry step into the Great Hall, the warm glow of the candles overhead flickering against the enchanted ceiling. You spot Ron and Hermione at the Gryffindor table, sitting close together with a half-empty platter of food in front of them.
As you approach, Ron looks up, his cheeks bulging with a mouthful of what appears to be roast chicken. He says something muffled, completely incomprehensible as bits of food fly onto his plate.
Hermione rolls her eyes, giving him a pointed look before turning to you at Harry. “He said, ‘It took you both long enough.’” She offers a small, knowing smile that makes your stomach flip. There’s a teasing glint in her eyes, as if she’s noticed how close you and Harry are walking together.
You feel your cheeks heat up, but you quickly sit down next to Harry, trying to act normal. “We didn’t take that long,” you reply, though your voice sounds more defensive than you intended.
Ron, now finally managing to swallow his food, grins. “Yeah, sure. You’re only the last ones here. Hermione thought you two got lost or something.”
You scoff lightly, shooting him a playful glare. “We were just making sure Harry packed everything, unlike someone who nearly forgot their Charms homework last week.”
Ron shrugs, completely unbothered. “That was one time.”
Hermione looks exasperated but doesn’t press the point, instead glancing between you and Harry. “You two seem… close tonight,” she says, her voice casual but with a hint of teasing. “Sitting awfully close, aren’t you?”
Your heart skips a beat, and you realise that, yes, you and Harry are sitting closer than usual – your knees brushing under the table, shoulders almost touching. Harry shifts beside you, and when you glance at him, you notice the light pink tint spreading across his cheeks.
“Oh, uh-” Harry stammers, trying to play it off, “there’s just, you know, less space at the table tonight.” He sounds unconvincing, and you can feel your own face growing warmer.
Ron snickers, biting into a piece of bread. “Right. ‘Less space.’”
You kick Ron lightly under the table, earning a chuckle from him, while Hermione hides her grin behind her glass of pumpkin juice. Harry, still a bit flustered, reaches for a roll, but his hand brushes yours as you both go for it at the same time.
“Sorry,” he mutters, looking down at his plate quickly. You pull your hand back, feeling the butterflies in your stomach flutter more intensely.
Dinner goes on with light conversation, mostly centred around Ron’s enthusiastic retelling of his plans for Christmas and Hermione’s exasperation over his lack of preparation for the upcoming exams. All the while, you’re hyper-aware of how close Harry is, and how his arm occasionally grazes yours.
Once you’ve finished eating, the plates magically clear themselves, and Harry glances at you, an almost shy smile tugging at his lips. “We’ve got some time before bed… do you want to do something?” His voice is soft, hopeful.
You bite your lip, thinking for a moment, before the answer comes to you. “I’d like to go to the Astronomy Tower,” you say, your voice quiet but certain. “To look at the stars.”
His eyes light up, and he nods. “That sounds perfect.”
Ron lets out an exaggerated sigh. “Of course, the Astronomy Tower…”
Hermione gives him a look. “Oh, hush, Ron. Let them go look at the stars.” There’s a sly smile on her lips, and you have a feeling she knows exactly what’s going on between you and Harry, even if neither of you has fully admitted it yet.
Blushing, you get up from the table, feeling Harry’s eyes on you as he stands as well. You glance over at Hermione and Ron, who are both trying their hardest not to look too amused.
“Well, we’ll see you later,” Harry says awkwardly, shoving his hands into his pockets as he waits for you to join him.
You give Hermione a quick wave, and she winks back, as you and Harry head out of the Great Hall together, making your way toward the Astronomy Tower.
Tumblr media
The cold night air bites at your cheeks as you stand atop the Astronomy Tower with Harry, the sky above a sea of stars. They glitter against the black canvas, so clear and sharp that it feels like you could reach out and grab them. You pull your cloak tighter around you, sneaking a glance at Harry beside you. His breath forms soft clouds in the crisp winter air, his eyes trained on the sky, but you can tell he’s just as nervous as you are.
For a while, it’s quiet – almost awkward – as you both gaze up at the stars, your fingers brushing his for a split second before you quickly pull your hand away. The cold is a convenient excuse for the shiver that runs down your spine, but deep down, you know it’s not just the temperature making you feel this way.
Harry clears his throat, breaking the silence. “The stars are… really bright tonight.”
You nod, unsure what to say, your heart racing just being next to him. The space between you feels charged with something unsaid. “Yeah, they’re beautiful.”
Another stretch of silence follows, and you sense Harry shifting on his feet beside you, as though he’s gathering the courage to say something more. You’re at a loss for words, the nervous flutter in your chest making it hard to think straight.
Then, after a moment, Harry speaks again, his voice softer, almost hesitant. “You know… the stars, they kind of remind me of you.”
Your breath catches at his words, and you turn to look at him, your heart pounding in your ears. “Remind you of me?” you repeat, your voice barely above a whisper.
He glances down, shuffling his feet before meeting your gaze again. His green eyes are bright, reflecting the light of the stars above, and there’s something vulnerable in his expression, like he’s afraid of saying too much but wants too anyway.
“Yeah,” he continues, his cheeks flushing pink from more than just the cold. “They’re beautiful, obviously, but it’s more than that. They’re always there, constant, even when everything else feels uncertain. Like no matter what’s going on, you can always look up and find them.” His voice drops, a little shy as he adds, “You’re like that for me.”
His confession is so simple, but it makes your heart feel too big for your chest. You can’t tear your eyes away from him, and suddenly, the awkwardness disappears, replaced by a quiet tension that hums between you. There’s something in his gaze, something tender and full of hope, and you realize you’ve been waiting for this moment just as much as he has.
As you stand there, words hovering on the tip of your tongue, your eyes are drawn upward – and that’s when you see it. A sprig of mistletoe, its little white berries gleaming in the dim light, hanging just above your heads. It’s almost laughably convenient, but it’s there, and you know Harry’s seen it too.
Your eyes meet, and for a moment, you both just stand there, the realization hanging in the air. He glances at the mistletoe, then back at you, his breath coming out shaky, lips slightly parted as if he’s waiting for you to stop him. But you don’t.
Instead, slowly, carefully, Harry leans in, his movements tentative, giving you time to pull away if you want. But you find yourself drawn to him, your heart racing as you close the distance between you. Your eyes flutter shut, and then, finally, his lips meet yours.
The kiss is soft at first, tentative, like you’re both testing the waters, but it sends warmth flooding through you, chasing away the cold of the night. His lips are gentle, and the hand that’s been brushing against yours squeezes lightly, grounding you in the moment.
When you finally pull back, the world feels different, like everything has shifted into place. You open your eyes to find Harry staring at you with a soft, almost awestruck expression, his cheeks flushed and his breath shaky. You know you must look the same, a blush creeping across your skin despite the cold.
The silence between you is thick with emotions that have been building for longer than either of you realized. You’re both standing there, frozen in place, still processing what just happened.
Without thinking, your hand moves up, trembling slightly as you cup the back of his neck. His skin is warm beneath your touch, and you can feel him shiver – not from the cold this time, but from the same nervous anticipation that’s thrumming through you.
You pull him down toward you, closing the space between you once more, and kiss him again. This time, the kiss is more certain, a little bolder, your lips pressing against his with quiet intensity. Harry responds instantly, kissing you back with the same urgency.
But just as you’re getting lost in the moment, Harry pulls back, his breath shaky as he rests his forehead against yours, his fingers brushing lightly over your hand. For a second, neither of you moves, standing there with your foreheads pressed together, the stars twinkling above, the cold night air forgotten.
You let out a breathy laugh, something soft and uncontrollable that bubbles up before you can stop it. Harry pulls back slightly, his lips quirking into a curious smile.
“What’s so funny?” he asks, his voice quiet but warm.
You bite your lip, still smiling. “I don’t know… I guess it’s just – this. Us.” You pause, your heart racing as you search for the right words. “I’ve wanted this for so long... I didn’t think it would actually happen.”
Harry’s expression softens, his thumb brushing lightly against your cheek now. “Me too,” he admits, his voice barely above a whisper. “I didn’t know how to say it... but I’ve liked you for ages. I just... I didn’t want to mess things up between us.”
Your heart swells at his confession, and you realize just how long you’ve both been waiting, dancing around this moment. You take a deep breath, your voice trembling slightly as you speak. “I like you too, Harry. A lot. I’ve been so nervous around you lately, and I-”
Harry smiles softly, his forehead still resting against yours. “You don’t have to be nervous anymore. We’re okay. Better than okay.”
You smile back, the relief washing over you, a weight lifting off your shoulders. There’s nothing left to say; you both know now.
Without second-guessing yourself, you lean in again, capturing his lips in another kiss – this one slow and sweet, like a promise. His hands settle gently on your waist as he pulls you closer. The world fades away, and all you can feel is him – his warmth, his steady presence, the way everything just feels right in this moment.
When you finally break apart, the stars are still shining above you, but all you can think about is how bright everything feels now that the truth is out in the open. Harry looks at you with a soft smile, his hand lingering on your cheek as he whispers, “I think the stars were always meant to lead me to you.”

This is not how my mission was supposed to go. I struggled against the restraints. The stupid curse that was supposed to be an easy fix o held me captive. My arms were getting tired from being behind my back. The dinghy chair that I was tied to was not comfortable. No doubt someone was coming to rescue me. I doubt it will be soon but at least it’s something. The curse was hiding behind the door to the room. It was a fat glob. Looked dirty.
“Why are you waiting by the door? No ones coming for me,” I called out to the green gooey curse. It just mumbled something that wasn’t english. What a waste of time. The rope had to be cursed, my knife wasn’t cutting it. I’m going to be stuck here forever. Right as I was coming to terms with my fate the door was flung open. The door smacking the curse.
“Don’t worry L/n! Help is here!,” the blurry figure shouted. My eyes weren’t used to the bright light from the open door. I already knew who was calling for me. The new first year that I briefly met at the school. Yuji Itadori. The one people would whisper about, something about a curse within him, I wasn't listening.
“Oh Itadori! My savor,”I say sarcastically. I saw the pink haired boy looking around. Probably looking for the scary curse holding me captive. “It was hiding behind the door,” I told him. Itadori whips his head to the door he flung open.
“Oh Yikes Sorry little guy,” Yuji apologizes as he slowly closes the door, revealing the gross looking curse. He made quick work of it. He turns back to me with an eyebrow raised. “How did that weak ass curse do this to you?” He asked with a genuine tone. Anyone else would have made fun of me.
“He had a civilian captive and when I tried to help her she pushed me into the chair instead,” I retold the events. Yuji had a finger on his chin as he nodded along. “Itadori?” I asked. I caught his attention, he tilted his head. “You mind untying me?” he rushed over after i finished my sentence. He made quick work of the ropes. I stood up as soon as the bindings were off. Blood rushed to my head. My vision developed dots. I started swaying.
“Wow L/n, are you okay?” Yuji asked, grabbing my shoulders. I leaned into him.
“Yeah yeah, I just stood up too fast,” I answered him. He was warm. His arms were supporting my weight. His chest is not as soft as I thought it would be. WIth my vision coming back and blood returning to my legs, i straighten my posture.
“Thanks for the rescue, Mr. Itadori,” I said in a dramatic tone while bowing to him. He laughed. Amused by the formality.
“Of course L/n! I’ll always be there to rescue you,” He announced loudly
“Your personal Damsel In Distress,” I started walking forward.
“I love Hercules! It's a good Disney film,” he stayed behind me to make sure I could fully move.
“Not everything I say is a movie reference,” I said as I opened the door.
“So you don't want to watch Hercules in my room and make Gojo Sensei buy us snacks?” He said cockly.
“Calm down there! I never said that,” I laughed as we both stepped outside, the warm setting sun hitting us both.
“So 8pm in my room?” His smile glowed in the sunlight.
“Of course,” We walked shoulder to shoulder.
WHen you two asked Gojo to get snacks he was a little bummed out about not being invited but he just winked at Yuji before skipping away. It was a bad idea to leave Gojo alone with his card. He came back with way too many snacks and matching onesies, mine being a f/a onesies while Yuji wore a cat one. Gojo took so many photos there black dots filled your vision from the flashes.
“Why didn’t we go with Gojo-sensei?” I asked while taking a seat on the small couch Yuji had in his dorm.
“Are you complaining about all these snacks?” he asked, dumping the snacks on the coffee table in front of us. Looking at the varieties of sweets, looking for my f/c. Grabbing it and opening while leaning into the cursed user's shoulder. The movie started.
Yuji laughed at about every joke in the movie. I forgave him when he offered me some piece of candy from his pile, he fed it to me like a baby. Sometimes I would hear a deep voice speak and then Yuji would slap his cheek. The credits began to roll. I sat upright. Stretching my back. Thinking about the potion I was justin. My back was pressed against Yuji’s chest. His arm wrapped around me. We were straight up cuddling? Pushing the thought from my head.
“Yuji are you alright?” He gave a nervous smile when I asked.
“Of course! Why wouldn’t I be?”
“Well sometimes your voice would go super low but then you’d smack yourself,” I explained, he looked nervous.
“You're the only one who doesn’t know about him..” he started but trailed off. I raised a brow
“Who?”
“The curse that im a vessel for..” he looked away, not sadly but a different emotion
“What are you talking about?”
Why do you think the counsel wanted me dead?”
“I thought you were on trial because you killed a bunch of people,” I tiled my head. No one ever told me why Gojo-sensei had to speak up to the counsel men. I never cared enough to ask.
“WHAT??” Yuji shot up, matching my up right position.
“Yeah, i thought you were like a crazy murderer,”
“And you still hang out with me??” He started to raise his voice.
“Well we all do things we are not proud of,” I nodded with my words. The pink haired teen started laughing. My face grew hot with embarrassment. Was I wrong?
“I’m a vessel for a once powerful curse, Sukuna,” He told me suddenly, with a serious tone. My head fell to a tilt again.
“Who?” I asked, his eyebrows going up. He seemed surprised that I didn't know. His cheek started to change.
“Never heard of me, doll?” the mouth that morphed spoke, the single eye trained on me. I backed up from my spot. The mouth grew into a smug smile, seemingly amused by my fear.
“EW! Yuji what is that!?” I exclaimed. The mouth frowned trying to open its mouth but was slapped by Itadori’s hand. Yuji laughed at the situation. He grabbed his stomach from laughing too much. I was still so confused by the random mouth that appeared on my friend's cheek. The teen whipped his tears of joy.
“That was Sukuna, the curse inside of me,” He explained. It clicked in my head. After more questions I was fully educated on the situation.
“So it can hear all your thoughts? Sukuna I mean,” I corrected myself from calling him an ‘it’.
“I think so…Im not actually sure..” He put his finger to his chin.
“I can.” The oh so scary curse appeared on the hand that was resting on Yuji’s chin. Nodding my head. An idea and question popped into my head.
“Wait” leaning over to the pile of junk food. I unwrapped a sweet. Putting it up to the cursed mouth.
“Can you consume food while being just this mouth?” I asked while putting the candy closer to the mouth.
“L/n be careful,” Yuji said, worrying that Sukuna would bite off my fingers. The eye stared at the candy then at me. I don’t think he knew if he could. The mouth frowning.
“Come onnnnn it’s good!” I persuaded the curse, swaying the candy in front of it. As Sukuna glared into my eyes he opened his mouth slowly. Even though he didn’t open very wide I shoved the sweet in, pushing it all the way in and quickly pulling back just in case.
“Wow, I can taste it!” Yuji called out. He seemed to be savorig the candy as if it was really in his mouth.
“Do you feel the candy or is it more of a phantom touch?” I asked. My eyes switch between staring at the hand mouth and Yuji. The teen opened his mouth to prove there was no candy.
“That's so cool!” I exclaimed. I saw Yuji’s throat movie so the curse must have swallowed the sweet. Right as we were about to change the subject-
“Another!” a demanding voice shouted. Looking down at the cursed mouth, it was grinning. Guess the King of curses likes sweets.
The rest of the night was spent talking while occasionally feeding Sukuna candy. Watching a stupid romcom that neither of us were very interested in. I left Yuji’s dorm around midnight. I was supposed to leave earlier but we got lost in conversation. I’m sure Gojo-sensei won’t like that I was in a guys room for so long. I checked my phone for the time again. Seeing the new wallpaper that Gojo set when he stole my phone for pictures. It was a picture of me and Yuji with our arms interlinked, wearing the silly onesies, smiling big.
Maybe I should get kidnapped more often if this is how it will turn out.

Web of Reality's Lie: Part 7
@that-one-poison-trainer (Viper) @mechanical-hearth (Clara (and Svarog (big text))) @freeroaming-curiosity (Oppy) (on other blogs Quasar will be shown like this)

Heart Castle. The Incursionists have reconvened following their various encounters
Hm... yes... got it... that makes sense...
You can get off my head now Virus
she floats down from her piggy back ride with Toppy
oh Arceus my brain feels like got grated by a cheese grater
Got something figured out Quasar?
Just about... with the info you all brought me I might have an idea: So this is gonna sound like it comes out of nowhere, but I have a Stand that lets me mess with computer stuff. Yes the JoJo kind. And no, I didn't have this in Wonderland the first time, it's a fairly new thing. I've only really used it once before, but it seems relevant here. And me being inside the Nomen Array gives me a chance to look at its "code" so to speak. Which means that with my Stand, I can develop a "Nomen Virus", a digital weapon designed to shred this thing. And that's what I've been working on for the past few hours after Clara and co. got back
A little black and blue metal box appears on Quasar's arm, unfolding into a small crawler robot. Quasar then brings out a quivering sliver of black and red energy that glows evilly
Ok Touch Tone Telephone, install Lemon Demon
Quasar puts the sliver into the robot
The only issue is the Nomen Array has to be opened for me to get TTT inside to deploy Lemon Demon... Viper, you've played a version of this game before... I'm 99% sure the Nomen Array is the Mind Control Facility, do you know anywhere that the lock to it could be?
there's a control button you can press that changes the ending, there's three from what I remember?
THat's probably gonna be our best shot
Huh.
what's not to understand?
I got it, it’s just… kinda weird.
yah I understand. I've learned to accept all this through intensive denial and excessive dissociation

Make Me Write ask answered
162 📖 for @inell!
---
When they arrive at the fire station, Eddie is indeed in rough shape. Scratched, damp, and wearing a heating blanket.
“Buck, why is my dad dressed like a baked potato?” Chris asks nervously when he sees him.
Eddie is sitting in the back of an ambulance, looking a little sleepy. The other paramedic - the one that isn’t Chimney - is talking to him.
“It’s keeping him warm,” Buck explains. “Why don’t you go see him? That’ll make him even warmer.”
“DAD!” Chris calls out, heeding Buck’s advice. He picks up his pace a little in Eddie’s direction.
“CHRISTOPHER!” Eddie calls back once he sees him. He hops out of the ambulance, dropping the warming blanket, and runs across the engine bay floor towards his son. When he reaches him, he scoops him up into the biggest, tightest, most loving hug Buck has ever seen. Buck honestly feels a little choked up, watching it.
He doesn’t want to intrude on their moment, so he hangs back, holding onto Christopher’s backpack. After a minute of this hug, of Eddie speaking quietly to his son, he finally looks in Buck’s direction. He sets Christopher down, strides over to where Buck is, and hugs him too. Just quick, with a clap on the back, but it’s still a hug. It catches Buck off-guard a little.
“Thank you,” Eddie says emphatically. “Thank you so much for taking care of him.”
“No problem, really,” Buck says when Eddie pulls away. “Chris kept me in line. Made sure I knew the right answers to American history. Really he did me a favor.”
Eddie’s smile in response is practically glowing. “I owe you one, man.”
“Hey, don’t mention it. Just glad you’re okay.” Buck says. “Is Carla good? I couldn’t reach her either.”
Eddie nods. “Her dad isn’t well. She was visiting him today.”
“Oh,” Buck replies. “That’s… That’s too bad.”
Eddie takes a deep breath. “Listen, man, can I buy you a beer sometime? As a thank you?”
Buck… Well, for some reason, even though it’s totally not necessary, Buck really likes the sound of that.
“Yeah,” Buck nods. “Yeah, that’d be great. My number should be in your phone from when I tried to call you.”
“Perfect,” Eddie smiles.
x.
It’s way too much fun.
Buck meets Eddie at a sports bar. They grab beers. Watch a game. It’s probably the most fun Buck’s had in a while. Without work or a kid in between them, they connect as just people. And it turns out, they connect pretty well. They have a similar sense or humor and like a lot of the same things. Eddie listens when Buck goes on accidental tangents about subjects he finds interesting. Buck is genuinely delighted with stories about Christopher. They just sort of… Mesh?
By the end of the night, they’re making plans to hang out again, and Buck’s stomach can’t quite shake a fluttery, swooping feeling. Something that he’s only really felt before… Well, on dates.
Which is strange for Buck because, well… Eddie is a man? And Buck didn’t know that another man could make him feel that way.
Which probably means… Something.
xi.
Buck and Eddie manage to hang out two more times by themselves, and once with Christopher, even, before the world shuts down. And Buck goes from the exciting thrill of a new friend/maybe crush to working alone in an empty library, filling online orders, and putting them in sterile pickup areas, with nothing at all to look forward to.
It’s awful. It’s depressing. Buck genuinely struggles to get out of bed in the morning for the entire month of April.
His sister is pregnant, and she can’t even stay with Chimney because of the risk. She’s alone. Buck’s alone. Everyone is boxed off from each other.
They keep in contact. Eddie and Buck. Text. Social media. Buck does a few virtual homework help sessions with Chris out of working hours. But it’s weird. It’s like they almost had a friendship or something, and it just kind of gets stalled.
All the nothingness means Buck has time. On and off work. He has nothing but time. It reminds him of the early years of his undergrad, where the coursework wasn’t challenging or interesting enough to keep his mind busy. He’d had to find ways to fill the time. Partying. Drinking. Sex. Working out. Those had been his options, then. Apart from working out, he doesn’t want to replicate the rest in a global pandemic. Which means Buck is left with way more hours to fill than even in undergrad.
And he’s a librarian. So… One of the things he does to avoid going crazy? He reads. He researches. He learns. And one of the things he starts going all in on learning about? Human sexuality and attraction. Because the distance from Eddie doesn’t make Buck stop thinking about him. Doesn’t quell the curiosity, the thinking. The excitement each time a notification from Eddie lights up his phone. So Buck researches, and he tries to figure himself out.
So, in the middle of a pandemic, where everyone is quarantined, and Buck is completely alone, he discovers he’s bisexual. Stellar timing. Really great work. Had he uncovered this little tidbit of identity earlier in his life? Maybe he’d be quarantining with a boyfriend or a husband or something cool like that. Since he’s historically fumbled all the women in his life. Who is he kidding? He’ll probably be the same with dudes. But until proven otherwise, he imagines he’ll be very smooth.
So. Bisexual. Alone in his studio apartment. Living through an unprecedented global emergency. Kind of thirsting over a man he won’t be able to see for months, and who he doesn’t even know is queer, so probably has no chance with.
Buck is frustrated.
He learns to cook. He buys a variety of plants. Tries and fails to learn to draw. Impulse adopts a cat; a Burmese he renames Begonia. Her previous name was Princess and to be honest she is way too relaxed for that designation.
Nothing makes the sense of restlessness building in his chest go away.
xii.
It’s late summer by the time he and Eddie can hang out again. At a distance. Outside, on a hike. Masks on if they get any closer. Eddie has a higher chance of infection on his job, and Buck wants to be safe.
They fall back into their easy pattern of conversation and humor. It’s like whatever paused between them at the beginning of the year picks right back up without any issue. And Buck is relieved. Relieved and excited. Like they’re pointed towards a direction he hasn’t seen before, but is desperate to discover.
Buck tells Eddie all about the ever-changing library policies regarding the virus. Eddie tells Buck about childcare struggles.
“With Carla caring for her dad full time, and my Abuela back in Texas, it’s been insane,” he admits.
“And no aftercare programs at the library,” Buck says.
“Or anywhere,” Eddie says.
“Man, that’s rough. I’m sorry.”
“It’s… Well, single parenting is never easy. But global catastrophe certainly adds to it.”
“Hey, if-if I can help…” Buck offers, a little aimlessly.
Eddie raises an eyebrow. “Is the library open to visitors yet?”
“Well, no,” Buck admits. “Soon, hopefully? But I mean, I can ask the head librarian - Janine - if he can, uh, sneak in. Masked up, of course.” “I mean, if he could. That’d be really helpful. He could do class from there, right?” Eddie asks. ”Only if it wouldn’t put you out!”

An especially happy muzzle Monday to this scene where Arturia is magically muzzled/gagged by a stern goat woman in a mask holy shit
This is a prime example of “muzzled due to necessity” and it’s so good, made even more fun that the risk isn’t a bite risk. Her voice is just that dangerous
I love it

I get what you mean. I might sound controversial here but Si Spurrier took Chuck Austen's spot in my list of bad Nightcrawler writers for awhile now.
After this tho ? This whole 6$ mess?? I actually prefer Austen to him. It's incredible.
Should have seen this coming, all the clues were there from the start : Nightcrawler's selective memory on everything he went through, none of his friends caring about him (100× worse than Austen on this one), that bit in Legion of X where we could see Nightcrawler's s3xual fantasies which included a woman that straight up looks like Rogue, the whole Mother Righteous deal, the Golden Child in Nightcrawlers (we went all later season Rick and Morty here) and of course the Margali fiasco, to which I'm still going "why just why" whenever I think about it especially after finding out Orchis actually has a magic user (new oc from Dark X-Men) who captured an alternative version of Nightcrawler + Madelyne Pryor before Fall of X went down (so like why tf couldn't they have another oc or just her be behind Legion of X's horn plot instead of the only good parent Kurt has??)
Just get Si Spurrier away from Nightcrawler forever. I'm begging here
Who are you and how did you find me
Outside of getting an ask that isnt from people I talk to on the daily, i assume, uh. Yeah what's been happening to Kurt has all kinda a big mess.
People can like the retcon and more power to them if they do, but I just. personally dont like how it messes with everything (a la Maximoffs arent Magnetos kids anymore, but somehow worse?) Full on explaination of my thoughts under the read more, be warned though, it might be a bit messy just based on it being me trying to collect my thoughts in a written form
Spurrier has made some very weird choices in the comics, definitly, though not all of them suck IMO.
(I'm probably the one person who thought about how Azazel has basically soul magic and how Kurt could thusly have magic aswell, meaning that Hope Sword being a magic weapon that kurt made in his soul (one which he should not have, but apperantly grew back) satisfied me and me specifically beccause AHA magical kurt!)
BUT YEAH NO, they messed up Margali ALOT, which, read the headline she is my girl, I liked seeing her again but WOW did they not understand her and what she does and the way they characterized her could be considered a form of character-assasination and possibly even. downright horrible considering the fact that she is a roma woman (though lets be real there are many issues with how writers treat the romani characters and as someone who is not romani, I wont speak on it in detail now, cause it's not really my place. but like man); Mr Sinisters rule 63 self was a whole thing, again as my headline says, do not like her., i think her character was handled horribly. Plus they made her like. the reason why margali does magic and as the number one margali fan in the world, thats bullshit. Margali has been sorcerer supreme twice, possibly even trice depending on how you read her being guardian of limbo so having her get to that point cause some fuckin Nathaniel Essex clone was like "teehee i actually gave you magic" and then making her take margalis magic and kill her?? It's bad. (also i dont like the way she looks, why would she look so different from other essex clones, its just. aesthetically weird to me); On the note of the nightcrawlers, I actually quite liked them as a concept, though I think they couldve gotten more creative with their designs. Please make them look like more than just character but hit with a blue coat of paint, theyre a mix of two genetic samples, not a full clone of one character. They are in a sense of biology, children of those two characters, dont make them look boring also dont like how two of them had a baby. they both have 50 percent kurt DNA. thats. thats not gonna be a healthy baby. Do like the baby tough, shout out to the god baby, her concept is way too funny to dislike.
NOW, I will say, reading over the stuff again, i feel like its implying that Raven used a bit of the dna from the baron and azazel for the whole, having a baby thing???
WHICH, if I'm reading that right, might actually mean that they just actually did the most insane move of basically going "actually every bio-parent we've ever given Kurt is Kurts Bio-Parent" and I would actually respect that and it would change my opinion on this comic INSTANTLY because this kind of shark jumpery would be amazing.
But either way, I feel like retconning everything is really bad for everyones characterization, especially Destiny and Mystiques, part of it being the "oh we had to leave you cause future vision said so" feels very much like them trying to find an excuse for why they wouldnt raise their child
Idk it feels weird to have him be raven and irenes beloved darling child that they were forced to give up when you have mystique and destiny not really giving a shit about kurt, like ever previously in the comics.
To me it feels empty and almost like a cheap reference. It isnt something easily inserted in todays canon, years ago, when we didnt have all the baggage of years of interactions, you couldve easily added that fact and explained why they left him, but now, its a mess
Plus they JUST brought Az back in the comics in the dark x-men thing, which. feels like really bad timing, if they just let azazel fade from memory and then do the retcon like "yeah kurt just dreamt all of that demon stuff teehee", it'd be annoying but.
He's in comics.
Recent comics.
Why would you remind everyone of his existence, yknow, the man literally made and designed to be kurts bio-dad down to basically being a red Kurt with straight hair and without ectrodactyly. and then. retcon him being the father.
It feels so weirdly timed, did they not talk to eachother when planning these series??
Also I get that not everyone likes Azazel and his deal, which is fair, he's a kinda one note weirdo guy, but idk man. I like him. I think he's funny, I like villains like him being just annoying pests.
ALSO!! Spider-Kurt is actually one of my favourite things recent comics has done, because FUNFACT there's a character who we only ever see the tombstone off on battle world, from a different universe, called Amanda Wagner-Parker aka Spider-Crawler and. I am kinda obsessed with her?? Like. They actually just gave us a hinted at Kurt/Peter kid a tonne of years ago??? possibly??? like that??? and no one ever talks about her So them making Kurt be buds with Peter and hang out was actually catering to me specifically. That was a good idea. Kurt as spiderman with magic powers was written for my tastes and no one elses ever actually
Also uh, all comic characters are technically ocs so being like "ooo new oc from this" feels a bit dismissive to me, just say character
